Opinions de Margon Restaurant New York
From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with kindness. This is a wonderful place that I hope we will stand the test of time. I loved everything I highly recommend if you’re near Time square to visit. I know I’ll be back every time I’m here.
Margon is a little hole in the wall spot that just got added to my fire spots! I had the Cubano with Oxtail gravy on the side to dip the sandwich! It was Fantastico! Will definitely come back!
Got roast chicken with rice and beans and let me tell you... This chicken was FALLING. OFF. THE BONE!! 🤤🤤 So tender and delicious, both the chicken and beans were well seasoned. The service and atmosphere was great as well, the servers were friendly and the vibe was warm ♥️
As a poor college kid, this place is an absolute gem. No frills, generous & delicious portions and the staff are so, so kind. Peeped at the daily specials and all plates (entree + 2 sides) are $20 and under- something rarely seen outside of Queens. Tried the Cubano, but looking forward to trying other options next time. Love love LOVE this place!
Ordered the Cubano sandwich with everything on it for takeout and it was freshly made. Meat paired with a sauce and added pickles for a nice acidity which made for a balanced meal. Would visit again to try other menu items although it is a introvert's nightmare with how crammed it is. Slightly loud which is a given but gave a warm and home vibe. Employees were very polite too.
Must have: CAFE CON LECHE That is what got us 6 blocks into Time Square - husband and I seek out cafe con leche wherever we go and Margon is now on our Must Have in NYC list. He got ultra nostalgic watching his coffee being made the way his grandmother made it for him: brew, add sugar, pour out and back to stir. I had no sugar with cinnamon and it’s the best I’ve had so far anywhere. Only got coffee for our walk (and stopped again on our way out of the city). The food snells amazing - walk just past the register and inhale. THE PEOPLE make the experience extra special. They are genuinely happy to see you come in, kind and warm, and send you away with an abundance of well wishes. If i could, I’d stop in or call every day to share in that. Please give this a try!! We can’t wait to go back. And $7 for a double cafe con leche is a true NYC deal!
Sometimes a hidden bite can be that place where you can escape from the world a bit and feel at home. Many hole in the wall eateries can feel that way and we'll be focusing on Margon a Cuban/Dominican restaurant in Midtown Manhattan that for many years has been a trusted staple of the area because of their customer service, welcoming atmosphere, and of course food especially their sandwiches. Having come here for many years myself, Margon has always felt welcoming and you come out of it with a smile on the face. The menu will be familiar to those with Caribbean cuisine along with having daily specials from empanadas, pork chops and beef stew to steak, king fish, roasted chicken chicharron, and more with of course the classic rice and beans all done well and filling but if you are looking to wash things down then it has to be with their tropical shakes always made fresh. At $8, options like tamarind, papaya, wheat, and moril sonando are great but so is one of my go too tropical shakes here - mamey - that transported me to a past that may or may not have happened. Also a little extra is always done that they give you in a small cup on top of the drink itself which is great and goes back to that great service. But we have to talk about the sandwiches as having a dedicated guy doing the sandwiches every day, watching this guy work is like seeing a magician do their thing. Having had both their media noche and Cubano sandwiches, that are always fresh and made on the spot, you cannot go wrong with either. But what is the difference between the two? A Cubano traditionally is the bigger sandwich with a crusty Cuban bread and a media noche sandwich uses a softer eggy bread as they both share the same filling of roasted pork, ham, swiss cheese, pickles and mustard so if your looking for a softer sandwich the media noche is what you want. At $13, the media noche is an easy grab and go bite that satisfies on its own much like the Cubano at $16 that makes for a great lunch meal. The combination of meats satisfies, the pickles gives that acidity to balance things, the mustard isn't overdone, the cheese melts perfectly and that bread works so well that absorbs everything but doesn't feel all consuming. Roast pork, ham & cheese, steak, tunafish, and chicken sandwiches are also options to explore. It can get busy, especially at lunch time, and with the small space can get crazy but it still flows well showing the experience accumulated over many years. Good eats in the Times Square/Rockefeller Center area of Midtown can be hard to come by, but Margon is one of those establishments that, despite its hole in the wall nature, shouldn't be missed offering well done Caribbean food, a staff that cares about what they do day in and day out, and an atmosphere that is always inviting that whether you are in the area or looking for a great downtown NYC bite for lunch or even cover yourself for dinner, they will not disappoint.
Food was amazing. We had the cuban sandwich, pork sandwich, plantains, rice and beans. The staff provided excellent service and went above and beyond after a sandwich had taken slightly longer than expected to make. They gave us a free Cuban coffee and flan. All was delicious, we will definitely be back!
Margon 136 W. 46th St New York, NY 10036 Cuban Coffee Media Noche Roast Chicken Flan Banana Shake Located in Midtown Manhattan is a Cuban restaurant that may be a hole in the hole, but its plates are more than superior. If you need a quick energy boost, this hot caffeinated drink will do the trick. In addition to having coffee and expresso, there is also steamed milk, sugar, and cinnamon. This is equivalent to having a Cuban Sandwich, just without the salami. The delicious sandwich was served on Cuban potato bread. The juicy, tender chicken falls right off the bone. This main course also included plantains, yellow rice, black beans, and pickled red onions. While I was skeptical about trying pickled onions, I learned very quickly how tasty this was. And don’t be bashful with your helping of hot sauce; the more the merrier. The homemade dessert is a Spanish version to custard, but denser. You can never have enough caramel sauce. I went bananas over the banana milkshake especially when there were tiny pieces of the chopped fruit in this refreshing tropical drink. As a bonus, I was given an extra serving that was leftover from the blender. If you come during the week, take advantage of their discounted prices offered on specific week days. It was a great experience dining in this locally owned casual style restaurant. #margon #margonrestaurant #CubanCuisine #midtown #cubancoffee #bananamilkshake #medianoche #roastchicken #flan #nycfoodie #localspot #foodstagram #eats #localbusiness #foodreview
The best Cuban restaurant we tried in New york! Atmosphere is eatery style but still given them a 5star because they maintained the cleanliness and condiments are available on every table. The staffs are so kind and warm, they knew that we are travelers visiting the city, they were so patient and even gave us free food as a sampler to taste! They are their special items on the menu, different everyday. We came here on a Monday for their Ox Tail! The BEST! Soooo tender and the sauce is amazing! Plus the plantain and black beans on the side compliments the dish so well! They also have Cuban coffee which we really love and a must try too! Every cup is freshly brewed so you may have to wait a bit but its all worth it!
Great customer service, they are such sweet people working here. They have lots of regulars coming in, joking with them, asking how things are going, etc. Cuban sandwich was the best I've had, tried the cortadito coffee. Then I saw some regulars ordering containers of white stuff, asked what it was and they said it's oatmeal, the best one ever. So of course I had to try it. Wow, so creamy and delicious! Wish I came here sooner instead of my last day. This place is a gem!
This may be my new favorite local lunch spot, for real! An absolute hidden gem slinging out classic Cuban and American lunch and breakfast menu! It was slowing getting packed as I sat and ate, that’s how you know it’s legit, when the local workers all go here Every dish I tried was so delicious and fresh. The roast chicken is outrageous and a great little power lunch. Their famous Cubano sandwich is also a must try dish
What a gem! Came here for a cuban sandwich and had ordered it to go; but started munching on it, as I was waiting for a big group to pay their bill. When it was finally my turn to pay, the gentleman nodded at my sandwich and asked, "are you sure you don't want to take a seat?" I interacted with 3-4 staff members in my time there and all of them were friendly and caring. And the sandwich was SO good. It was filling, but didn't sit heavily in my stomach. I would definitely come back again to try more food, and to support the good people working here.
The staff were so kind. They all spoke to me like I’ve been there before, in the way that you speak to your friends. They were just so welcoming and comfortable to talk to. I prefer chicharrón without the bones but the flavor is so much better with the bone. They were fried but didn’t have that layer of weirdness under the skin. Like they weren’t super fatty. It was just nice crispy skin with chicken under it. The beef stew was very flavorful as well, I tried a good bite of it. I’ve had softer beef stew before but these were pretty tender, not super chewy. The gravy was perfect as well. The salmon wasn’t my favorite but that’s because I’m not a fish person, I prefer food from land not the sea. My friends that had more of the salmon loved it and didn’t leave any to take home. I still tried it because I like trying new food and I can say it’s one of the better salmons I’ve had. The rice and the beans were the star of show for me. One bite took me back to DR, even though the restaurant is Cuban. It was super homey. That first half of a second when the beans touched my tongue was a total punch to my tastebuds in the best way possible. I don’t think I’ll be back because it’s in time square and I had to walk through a super touristy area but if you’re already going to Times Square because you’re a tourist or a New Yorker in the area, I definitely recommend stopping by.

Hole in the wall with yummy food and friendly service. Note the cuban sandwich is Miami style with salami instead of jamón.

Went for their Thursday special and got oxtail with rice and beans and a side salad. Also added a side of fried chicken chunk. You might as well get the fried chicken chunk plate since it was the same price ($15 or so). The food came with a couple of green sauces (which really wasn’t a green sauce, it was more like a garlic vinaigrette). The oxtail was delicious and loved the fried chicken chunk (so crispy and not as dried as I expected it to be). The sides, however, weren’t impressive at all. The rice and beans were mushy and the side salad was iceberg lettuce with canned veggies (no dressing). Wouldn’t be a bad place to get the oxtail from time to time.
Hole in the wall with some yummy food... Good lunch spot, more of traditional Domenican and Cuban food. In my opinion it is good, however, not the best food as many say, if you want a good meal for a reasonable price and don't mind the tiny cramped dinning this is for you. Staff was very nice and clean..

Food was good. But place was small and kind of dirty. Good service. staffs were nice.
A nice place to grab something quick, easy, and affordable that's filling! The atmosphere is super casual, kind of like a diner and the service is friendly.
UPDATE: Ordered the pepper steak from Tuesday special. The rice and beans were excellent as usual, but the steak was a bit tougher than expected. Also, the dish had a sour flavor to it that didn't agree with my taste. It might be what others are looking for. Small hole in-the-wall restaurant serving Cuban food close to time square. The staff was friendly and it was fast service. Ordered the oxtail Friday lunch special. The yellow rice and beans were very good. The oxtail was soft but it was a little too salty for my tastes. It was still good overall. Would try again.
The place is good the sandwich is good but do not buy the grilled cheese it taste like nacho cheese but if like nacho cheese a lot all yours and the rest room is very small and the coffee is good
Advertised breakfast. Stopped serving it early all week, also did not have the items advertised. No potatoes avail given a sandwich bun for bread. staff was friendly, and obviously they’re there…
