Opinions de Sfoglia New York
This is the one restaurant we have to visit on each trip to NYC. Nestled away on a corner on 92nd St in the upper east side it is a gem to discover. With an innovative menu and delicious drinks, you will be delighted with a special meal. Each dish is carefully curated to the highest standards. The staff are warm and friendly making for a memorable evening.
I took my husband to Sfoglia for his birthday after searching for the best Italian restaurants in New York City — and it absolutely lived up to the hype. When I called to make the reservation, the hostess was incredibly kind and accommodating. We arrived a bit early, and she graciously seated us right away — a thoughtful gesture that set the tone for a wonderful evening. Our server Tito was fantastic — attentive, knowledgeable, and made us feel truly taken care of. We began with the burrata, which was incredibly creamy and fresh. The blueberry agrodolce added a unique sweet-tart balance that elevated the dish in such a lovely, unexpected way. I sipped on a summer sangria that was light, crisp, and refreshing — the perfect seasonal cocktail. For our mains, I had the Pappardelle alla Bolognese, the pasta was delicate and thin, and the sauce was rich and flavor without being too heavy. My husband ordered the basil-ricotta Caramelle and it was equally delicious, showcasing the kind of quality and care you’d expect from a top-tier Italian kitchen. We ended the meal with two desserts — both spectacular. The Izzy’s Chocolate Tre Latti Cake was indulgent and moist. The Lemon Semifreddo was a bright, cool finish, bursting with citrus and complemented beautifully with the blueberry compote Sfoglia delivered on every level — food, service, ambiance — and made my husband’s birthday dinner feel truly special. Can’t wait to return!
My wife and I have been to Sfoglia every Valentine’s Day since we met. We’ve also celebrated big moments there as well. The atmosphere is perfect for a romantic dinner. The waitstaff and managers are over accommodating in the best way. Finally, THE FOOD. Is. DIVINE. Their flatbread is easily the best appetizer I’ve ever had and I didn’t even know what figs were, haha. Their pappardelle bolognese is honestly the signature home run dish. You won’t find better anywhere. If you’re not a meat lover go with any of their other homemade recipe pasta and you won’t be disappointed. IF you’re lucky enough to get their special apple dessert with cinnamon ice cream, oooooo good lord you better get it! Terrific food at a terrific restaurant in a terrific neighborhood. Go!
What can I say, this place is a gem. Definitely more upscale considering the location, and the prices reflect that. However, what you get in return is impeccable service, delicious food and a lovely, cozy atmosphere. We ordered the Burrata with peaches, fennel and toasted hazelnuts - absolutely delicious. My wife had the branding, I had the ricotta Cavalli with egglplant, and a side of garlic sautéed broccolini. For dessert, we had the bread pudding which we had to order with our meal since it takes extra time to prepare. Everything was fantastic. We will definitely be putting Sfoglia on our "must return" list.
We walked to this restaurant with a wheelchair which makes for a beautiful evening out. They recommend reservations but, they accommodate us outside and are assisted with the trip to the restroom which required walking into the quaint old fashioned bathroom. The food and service was exceptional and a treat. We enjoyed delicious and interesting combinations for dinner. If you want a very nice diner this is the place that you receive such a treat. Book a reservation way ahead!
By far the best best bolognese I have ever have is made here. The fresh made bread with olive oil is delicious, the staff is very professional and attentive, the food is made to taste and the decor makes you feel as if you were sitting in a local restaurant in Italy. This is definitely a must for both New Yorkers and non-New Yorkers. At the end of our meal we were given complementary limonccelo to end the night with a bam. I would definitely recommend this place.
Sfoglia fell one Artic Char, one lettuce salad, and some minutes of slow service away from 5 stars. But, starting with the positives. The space features rustic wooden tables and lovely decor. We loved the ravioli doppio. The dish burst with fun and unexpected flavors. The veal Milanese hit expectations but did not exceed. And, we all enjoyed the Caesar salad, but then again, it’s hard to mess up a Caesar salad. One in our party order and Arctic char. Bad move. The fish came cooked closer to sushi levels than the medium rare she ordered. And, she was disappointed with the taste. I’d also suggest avoiding the little gem lettuce. I didn’t like it at all, though some else in the group did.
Great Italian Restaurant in UES! Always pass by here and decided to give it a try! Food are hit or missed! Location: It is located at UES, lexington Ave. We made reservations cause it is always packed here! There is outdoor and indoor seating! The indoor is nice, quite dark. The outdoor is nice, feels like you are in Italy. Street parking available at the side Service: OMG our server is nice. I noticed that she is in the elderly side, and I love that, it means that the restaurant does not discriminate! Thank you for that. Food: Food here is hit or missed! BURRATA: this was my first Burrata and it was delicious!! Omg! There are green peas on it and the burrata is so silky. SFOGLIA CAESAR: the best caesar salad I had in my life! It was perfect! Not too much or too less of the dressing and I love the anchovies on it! CURED ITALIAN MEATS: this is good as well, different types of meat with a good bread sticks! PAPPARDELE: good, taste like deconstructed lasagna! FETTUCCINI: best fettuccine that I ate, the cream and chunks of ham is good, the pasta was al dente! SAFFRON RISOTTO: the risotto was cooked well, didn’t got that much of the crab tho. SFOGLIA’S CHICKEN AL MATTONE: they said this was very popular but it was okay for me, it is like fried chicken with lemon on it. It was okay. BONE IN VEAL CHOP: another one that was okay. Expensive but it was just fried with a side of salad, nothing special for me. STRAWBERRY RHUBARB TORTA: omg this was good! The crust was so good and the filling was not that sweet which I like! The ice cream binds it together, the thing is you have to preorder this so order it on the beginning! Price rating: 9/10, quite expensive to be honest but if you buy what I recommend you will be fine. Will probably come back here for the Caesar salad, buratta, fettuccini and the strawberry rhubarb torta! 2 orders each!! Lol
The service and food here is just ok. We got baby kale salad to start and it was almost inedible just because the dressing was sweet and there were a ton of cranberries. The salad needed something to cut the sweetness. For dinner, I decided to get the Sfoglia chicken since they’re known for it but it was just ok. My sister got the goat cheese gnudi which was a much better dish. The duck fat potatoes are good and so are the drinks. Overall, I don’t think this is a place I’d return to since nothing really blew me away and with the price I expected more.
The food here is decent enough, but the prices do not match the food. Service is amazing though. I ordered the burrata, duck fat potatoes, papardelle bolognese and the eggplant/sausage pasta. The flavors are good but some of the food was cold. The place has a rustic farmhouse aesthetic and is pretty cozy inside. Be warned that if you're over 6ft tall you cannot sit comfortably inside because the tables are so low to the ground.
Sfoglia restaurant is a decent choice if you're looking for Italian food, but don't expect to be wowed. The menu is quite pricey, particularly the San Marzano pasta with "homemade" ricotta, which is rather expensive for what you get. While the tagliatelle with brussel sprouts, guanciale, black garlic butter, egg yolk and pecorino was flavorful, it wasn't particularly memorable. The burrata was just average. The ambiance was nice, but we were seated right next to the kitchen entrance which wasn't ideal. On the upside, the service was quite attentive. In conclusion, while Sfoglia isn't bad, there are better options out there for the price.
It's ok, but not the five-star restaurant many consider it to be, especially for the prices charged. In addition, the menu on Open Table is years old and the prices are no where near the prices today. Main Courses are about $10 Higher ($34 - 50) and side dishes about $7 higher at $16. Cocktails are $18, a nice cabernet was $17. What happened to pride in appearance? The crystal chandeliers need serious cleaning, the entire top of the 3rd Avenue façade looks kind of ratty, the entrance is small and doesn't have a simple bench for patrons who must wait for their table to at least sit down, no tablecloths on nice wooden tables... When I spend over $200 for dinner for two, I expect a nicer environment. If you eat at the bar, ask for a fresh napkin as a placemat, otherwise you get a constantly used woven fiber placemat. The food: The antipasto casa was $24 and enough for two, but bland. The half-chicken was large, moist and good. But for $36 couldn't they include one simple side, like carrots or mashed potatoes? If you want any one of the three sides on the menu, you need to shell out an additional $16 each. The cavatelli with rabbit was heavy and hearty at $34 but it needed fresh pepper and salt, and I hardly ever add salt. Half portions of pasta are available for around $22 and the spaghetti was pretty tasty. Last was the $24 torta del giorno special. Large, but also bland. The "crust" was like cookie-dough, not as expected or flakey. To each his own... If the dinner cost $50 less, I might have given it four stars.
The valentines menu wasn’t worth anything near what we had to pay. $350 after tip!! Dessert was absolutely horrible, a bread pudding which was more a fruit salad than pudding. I came here expecting the amazing chicken al mattone— which I got. however, every other item I paid for was extremely overpriced and under expectation. Half of the clams were just empty shells in my appetizer. We only got one dessert for two people on a $350 budget. Overall I would say this was a fun enough atmosphere, but the food flopped horrendously.
