Opinions de Tea room at BG New York
Might be the best tea experience in all of NYC. While the food is excellent, the view and the service are even better. If you’re lucky enough to snag table 102 in the lounge (with Shuba as your server), you’ll have the fancy chairs and a view of Central Park with the most attentive and thoughtful server to boot. Went with my friend today and can’t wait to return with my daughter.
Shout out to my waitress Maya!!!!! The friendliness was the cherry on top on just an overall experience. She answered all my questions gave wonderful recommendations and even brought out a birthday surprise at the end which the restaurant comped thank you very much for that. I didn't have lunch here, but I did do the afternoon tea, which is something that I would do again if I had the chance for $75 you get this tray of treats, mini sandwiches and desserts and if you want to be extra fancy you can add on a glass of champagne. The place was pretty small and is located on the seventh floor of BG department store. You get a view of Central Park and you're located right at the corner of where the plaza hotel is at. It was very busy, but Best believe the waitresses and servers were very fast so there was hardly any wait. I can't wait to come back and try the lunch. Thanks again BG restaurant for a wonderful experience!
Had lunch at BG Restaurant to celebrate a special anniversary. We started with the Burrata and Baby Kale Salad, followed by Sea Bass, Chicken Pot Pie, and a Croque Madame for our mains. Everything was absolutely delicious, and the plating was beautiful. Our waiter, Jason, was exceptionally kind and professional. His outstanding service truly elevated the experience.
Shopping at the legendary Bergdorf Goodman’s is an experience par excellence ~ dining at their top floor restaurant is yet another. So cosmopolitan, so chic and so New York in the sense of what Manhattan used to be . I went to school on the UES in the 1970’s Tobè-Coburn and often times wandered as a young student through these historically iconic fashion retail establishments in awe. Well Bergdorf’s hasn’t changed ~ the restaurant is marvelous ~ the staff is superb and the food is delicious. GO!
Really enjoyed our lunch at BG. Located on 7th floor of Bergdorf Goodman, with nice views of Central Park - it’s a great spot. It’s a small restaurant with tightly packed tables, but very nice and upscale ambiance. Mix of shoppers, local business people for lunch, and aunts in for a slow afternoon tea. Loved the salmon and tuna poke appetizer - was delicious - as well as the focaccia bread. Scallops and mushroom ravioli was amazing. Crab cake sandwich was just ok - missing a little something. Very nice staff and service. Reservations ideal but they were accommodating of walk-ins. Highly recommend for a nice lunch.
We had the best experience here! From the very beginning we set up a reservation which they happily coordinated with us as traffic delayed our arrival. The staff was so nice and accommodating! The restaurant was an elevator/escalator ride up to the 7th floor. The covered seats were only for parties of 2 but with a party of 4 we were able to sit by the window with a view of Central Park. We all ordered different teas and had individual kettles which they filled when empty. We ordered two towers and the food was so fun and different!
We had lunch on the 7th floor of Bergdorf Goodman’s and had an amazing experience as always! Our food was very flavorful and cooked perfectly. Our server was very sweet, attentive, and helpful with the menu. We dined here at lunch on a Saturday. Although it was busy, customer service was great and our food came out in a timely manner. The view overlooking the city from our table was incredible. I look forward to dining here again soon!
Always stop by for a Negroni when passing by. A pretty iconic spot. The view from the windows out to Central Park is beautiful. Great drinks, nice light food options. Worth the price - for the experience. You meet fascinating people here, especially when seated at the bar - it's a great social spot - even when dining alone. I always meet others, and enjoy the experience. Always quite intimate - very busy, popular. Usually only bar seating if stopping for a drink.
Had an afternoon tea on the 7th floor of Bergdorf Goodman. We were put to sit in “Whisper seats” which allowed us to overlook the iconic Central Park view. It is a plus in this experience. The afternoon tea set came with 3 tiers, the finger sandwiches and caviar puffs in the bottom tier, 2 warm scones with clotted cream in the middle and sweets on the top. The warm scone was in a dried side so when I smeared the cream on it, it fell into parts. Caviar puff was good and tasty, the sandwiches and sweet were mediocre. I was disappointed with the food choices. BG served the afternoon tea with a high end teapot set which I enjoyed it very much. The colorful drinking glass also made the whole experience fun and pretty.
Afternoon tea with a great view of Central park. Their high tea comes with a variety of sandwiches, scones and dessert for $75 per person, which sounds quite reasonable compared to other high tea places in the city. For $100, you can add a glass of champagne. Portion is good - I was full when I left.
I have never had so much so so good in my life. Every dish just missed in being flavorful or had the right seasoning or was just borderline bland. This is not the place for private conversation. The two women next to me shared very personal information and I wondered why didn’t they share it at their homes or at a place where you can have a private conversation. The coffee was good. The deviled eggs with cubed bacon did not pair well. With that salty taste it needed some other ingredient to balance it out. It was zip less. The eggs with caviar- oh well, the chef tried I guess but it just missed the mark. Actually that was the them of the meal. Almost made it but it just didn’t get it right. They need a recipe audit. As the two women next to me said- they come to BG to eat, shop and gossip. When my wife was alive she loved BG but noticed there was a menu change that tried to make it into something that it’s not. Look it’s a restaurant in a department store but not priced that way. My wife said we might as well eat at Daniel’s. Will they change no because the status quo is there more for it being BG not a restaurant called BG. I WAS surprised on a Sunday how empty it was.
This place is beautiful! I felt like a step back in time. The service was incredible. My husband took me for afternoon tea for a major milestone birthday. The server was nice enough to bring me a pillow to put behind me, the birdcage seats are pretty but without the pillow uncomfortable. Long story short something must have been on the pillow and got all over my pants. I actually walked around not noticing until I came to a mirror on a different floor I had a whole day ahead and a Broadway play. The afternoon tea was good the sandwiches could have been more. Compared to other afternoon tea it's small portion of sandwich. The biscuits are the Best!! I just wish I would have gotten an apology or something for my pants looking like I had poop, probably chocolate, it wasn't from my food because that leg was no where near. The special birthday chocolate mousse cake with a chocolate ganache was incredibly and appreciated. Good thing I was near lots of places that sell parts.
Wanted to try this place as it’s got a lovely view of Central Park and is considered a bit of a New York institution for high tea. Personally I found the seating very squishy and the food left much to be desired. One pot of tea served in hideous generic crockery did not impress. For the price the quality and generosity is well below my expectations of high tea. The experience was ill befitting of the history and beauty of BG itself
I had afternoon tea today and was very disappointed. The service was incredible and is the reason I’m giving my experience two stars instead of one star. Let me reiterate: the issue was not the service or staff, and they were very attentive and truly all you could ask for. My issue came with what the actual substance of the meal was, which was the food and how the food was presented. First, this tea is $75 and after tax and tip my final check was around $98. I expected a $98 meal, and instead, I got burnt tea, a worn out and shabby-looking plate that should have been tossed a long time ago, a wobbly, flimsy, and unstable three-tier stand, and below average food. I really expected better. The bread for the sandwiches was stiff and mealy, the pastries were passable but definitely did not meet the price point, and there was this weird puff thing that had caviar on it. The scone was delicious, but ONE SCONE? The macaron was cracked in multiple places on both sides - was it too much to just replace it with one that didn’t look like it had been dropped on the floor?? Who was doing quality assurance in that kitchen and saw this and thought “yep, let’s send out that crushed macaron”? Truly I’ve had $35 afternoon teas that were better than this where I actually walked away satisfied. But with this mid, underwhelming food and something as simple as the dish ware being so worn down, it just tells me that BG either doesn’t have pride in this restaurant and doesn’t care what’s going on or they don’t care enough about guests feeling like it was money well spent. Again, the service was fantastic and they’re not at fault here whatsoever. BG is always going to have clientele regardless of these reviews, but this afternoon tea was simply not worth the money. I would not recommend this afternoon tea.
