We felt like family the second we walked in the door. Basdeo the manager is there to greet you with a smile!!! This place is a MUST!!! Sliders and fries- don’t sleep on it!

One of the best food I have ever had. We were there for our anniversary. Staff was amazing and the manager was so nice and welcoming!! I would return there weekly if I could, but unfortunately I'm out of state. Can't wait to go back.

This is a very nice little restaurant, and the owner often comes out to greet the customers.

We had lunch at Michael's and took advantage of the Restaurant Week offerings. We had a 1:30 reservation which we were late for as it seemed like it took forever to get into the city on Friday. We called to let them know we would be late and were treated graciously and thanked for the call. The decor is bright and fresh. We were seated at a nice table that afforded us to view the entire restaurant, including the celeb guests that are reported to often visit. Unfortunately, we didn't see anyone but such is the case on a Friday afternoon mid-summer. Our waiter was very helpful in selecting our wine. He recommended a marvelous Torrebruna Brunello which I loved. My dining companion selected the Whispering Angel Rose. We both decided upon the Summer Chopped Salad with Pistachio and Thai Vinaigrette. There was an abundance of flavors in this salad that we both described as "fresh". Roasted corn, plums, watercress, mint, cilantro all contribute to this incredible salad. At the recommendation of our waiter we both ordered the grilled barramundi sea bass. The salsa verde was delicious. We both enjoyed our meal tremendously and thought that we were satisfied without feeling too full. We opted to try the dessert as we spied a neighboring table order a yummy looking strawberry and meringue parfait. They also offered homemade gelato which was spectacular (we tried the pistachio). We hadn't realized that the restaurant closed between lunch and dinner until we left. One reason we didn't know was the friendly staff did not rush us at all. Wonderful experience!

Fantastic all around. Great service from the second you walk in, simple menu with no bad options and a pleasantly reasonable wine by the bottle list and prices. Will be a regular stop when in New York.

Wow this place is a hidden gem!!! We walked in for a bite in the middle of shopping and it was honestly some of the best food I’ve had yet in NYC. The sliders are a MUST!! Basdeo, the manager was so sweet and accommodating. Cozy and cute and such a fun NYC vibe! We had such a great time. 10/10 food and drinks a must try!!!

Absolutely love this place—our new favorite spot! Every bite is delicious, with each dish offering its own unique twist. The service is excellent from start to finish, and we appreciate the round tables that make group dining feel cozy and connected. Even though it is crowded, the noise level is perfect for conversation. Can’t wait to go back

A great night out all together. Starting with a warm welcome at the door, the night continued to get better and better with lovely food and wine served by friendly staff in a beautiful setting.

Stumbled upon this place while on a work trip. AHHHHMAZING!!!!!! I had the fish special "skate with ramps". The sauce was maybe a buerre blanc, not sure but wow! For dessert I had Eton's Mess. A delightful mix of berry compote with vanilla ice cream, fresh cream and crumbled meringue. Service was top notch from the hostess to our waiter. Atmosphere was lovely and dimly lit with candles. I'll definitely be back. 10 out of 10!

I cannot recommend this place enough. Absolutely incredible service, atmosphere, and food. Everything we ordered was impeccable and the staff went above and beyond to make it an enjoyable, comfortable experience. I called to add another guest to our reservation a few hours before and even the person on the phone was so kind and helpful. Truly fine dining all around.

Michael's is the perfect fine dining experience. I came here for my mother's 40th birthday and I really want to thank the staff for making it memorable. A complimentary birthday cake was given to us and the staff sang her happy birthday. The setting is luxurious and the wait staff have everything down to absolute perfection. The margarita pie was warm and cheesy and the fish was well seasoned and presented. I want to thank the manager Basdeo for making our night so special.

The food was good and the staff was superb. The dining room is also beautiful. We went for a weekday lunch and it was very much a business crowd. The vibe is borderline stuffy, but the staff was so kind that their warmth offset that.

Came here for a dinner with colleagues. It's almost Halloween so the decor was themed artistically and was nice. We ordered a bunch of appetizers to share and they were all solid. I got salmon for my entree and it was really juicy and nice.

I went in there for lunch. Great burger, it was a ground up ribeye steak. One of the better burgers I’ve ever had. I was in there early so it wasn’t very busy. I would certainly revisit this place when I am back in Manhattan

From the moment you enter Michael’s in midtown, you feel something different. You realize why certain places are deserving of the title “institution”. This decades-long power dining restaurant is a class above the rest. From the cozy decor to the amazing art collection, to the attentive and courteous staff led by dining legend Steve at the helm as manager to the decadent expertly prepared cuisine, this place is deserving of every single accolade. We started with a few craft martinis (my friend’s up, mine extra dirty) and went into the Korean chicken bites, caesar salad, burrata special and tartare for apps and I ordered the chefs lamb for my main with a side of delicious broccolini. The team brought out a full spread of desserts which was far too much but if anything it showed that they are willing to go above and beyond for their clientele. Will definitely be back next time I’m in the area. Thanks team!

We werent sure where to eat before our show and noticed Michaels and decided to go in and was a great decision. The restaurant itself is beautiful with retro red art on all the walls, service was amazing we sat at the bar . We were not able to dine in but enjoyed their happy hour options the Korean Fried chicken was delicious and Duck Bao Buns. Will definetly return!

Some colleagues took me here and told me about its California origins and Michael’s history himself and then he actually stopped by the table. It was lunch and I had a magnificent Cobb salad. Staff and environs wonderful.

Michael’s still has its charm. From the moment you settle into a comfortable chair, you’re transported into a different world—one defined by relaxation and understated culinary mastery. The food is consistently fresh and perfectly seasoned, and the winter specials are an absolute must-try. The wine selection is equally impressive, with an award-winning list that always delivers. On our visit, we enjoyed a memorable 2007 Chambolle-Musigny. Service is excellent—attentive, knowledgeable, and present when needed without ever feeling intrusive. A place I truly love and one I’m always happy to return to.

I had an outstanding 5-star experience at Michael's. The food was flawless, earning a perfect 5-star rating. The service and atmosphere were also very strong, earning 4 stars each, which created a professional and inviting environment for an exceptional overall meal.

I had the perfect dinner here for Valentine’s Day! Great food, atmosphere and staff all around. Appetizers to dessert was all delicious. I am not even a fan of Kale but even their Kale Caesar Salad was so tasty; I finished it. I definitely recommend this place.

Big fan of Michael's. Worked in the area for several years and had great business lunches a few times a year. Because I lived in a different part of the city, I never thought to try it for dinner. Recently, I was looking for a classic NYC fine dining restaurant in midtown good for families with kids for a family birthday celebration. A friend suggested we try Michael's and they delivered! The lovely hostess made it magical for our kids upon entry, we were treated with the table in the window, the food was fresh and tasty and the kids loved it! There is not a kids menu but they will do kids pasta, simple burger, steak, chicken, etc. One of our kids - the pickiest eater - ordered a butter pasta and said it was the best they ever had. We all tried it and agreed, had to order another! There is a pretty limited wine selection but all were very good. Beer selection could be improved. The classic room has been the setting for many business deals and I have fond memories of a few, enhanced by our recent family experience. Love the laid-back but first-class vibe and unpretentious service. Highly recommend!

Highly recommend I absolutely had a wonderful time here. Came here for restaurant week and I called ahead to ask for a table with a good view and they were accommodating to my request. We ordered the wagyu tartare and flat bread for appetizers, pork and duck for mains, and passionfruit custard tart and sticky toffee pudding. Softest pork and crispy duck skin with delicious sauces. The sourdough bread and butter were very good, too. The waiters were friendly and nice. I will definitely come back! It seems like they serve a similar menu at the bar even when it’s not restaurant week

My experience was amazing as usual. The atmosphere is elegant, but not intimidating. The service is polite and very friendly. Regarding the food, it was delicious. The tartare is a good portion to share and had a perfect balance of flavors, fresh and creamy, the only problem was that potatoes were soaked in oil. I preferred to eat it with bread. The hot dog isn't my favorite, but the bun was perfectly toasted and the caviar topping was delicious. We ordered duck confit and Iberian pork. The duck confit with orange was a little bitter, but the duck leg was perfectly cooked with crispy skin and I definitely recommend to try the iberico pork had a perfect balance of flavors, acidity and salt, it was delicious. For the dessert I had the paring wine I recommend to try madero wine and banana caramel cake was perfect harmony. The passion fruit with coconut ice cream, is too big portion cam be share easily. My suggestion is book a reservation and the dress code is smart casual.

We book the table in advance since it’s popular! Love the vibe since it’s posh yet still casual for a relaxed evening. The sand dune oysters are so good and we ordered another round 😋 staff is friendly , service is quick. Love to try The Modern as well 👍

Went for a late lunch with the family after an adventure at the met. Overall it was stellar. Started with some tomato bread that was perfectly seasoned. The salmon was cooked well and a sauce added some interesting notes. Finished it off with a delightfully chocolate dessert. Food was excellent and service was tight. Highly recommend

Loved it! Got the restaurant week deal with the panisse, tomato toast (my favorite bite of the evening), rabbit tagliatelle, octopus and pork belly, and peach earl grey chiffon cake. Also got the dreamscape and paper plane cocktails - I think the latter was better balanced, but definitely recommend both!

Got a table on the terrace during Restaurant Week. The terrace was sublime. There was some sort of event going on that night at the museum (the restaurant terrace is sectioned off from the museum terrace) so there was music and it was lovely. The Restaurant Week menu was surprisingly good and a pretty good bargain at 3 courses for $65! The tomato bread and rabbit tagliatelle were the standouts. A lot of folks on the internet pooh pooh the RW menu but we had a wonderful time!

This was truly the best five-star dining experience we’ve ever had! Even though there was a small mistake with one dish, the staff handled it with such grace and professionalism. They not only offered us a discount, but also surprised us with five complimentary desserts and a birthday cake. The desserts were absolutely stunning—each one a masterpiece that completely blew us away. What impressed us most was the way the restaurant turned a tiny imperfection into the most perfect and memorable service. It ended up being the most delightful birthday celebration we could have asked for—full of surprises, warmth, and genuine care. Highly recommended!

Had lunch at The Bar Room at The Modern during NYC Restaurant Week and I have to say — it might be the most worthwhile fine dining experience of the season. The Bar Room is the more casual space attached to the two-Michelin-starred The Modern, located inside MoMA. The atmosphere is modern, relaxed, and polished — the kind of place where both sneakers and blazers feel equally appropriate. Service was professional but not overbearing, and the open kitchen setup (visible from the entrance) adds a nice behind-the-scenes vibe. I opted for the $60 menu (two courses + dessert) and ordered: 🥬 Gem Lettuce & Kale Salad with Smoked Sturgeon Tonnato Plating was beautiful — every leaf aligned in one direction, with the sauce hidden underneath. The tonnato was rich and complex, with a slightly unusual smoky flavor that might not be for everyone, but definitely felt high-level. 🐟 Chilled Tuna with Shiso, Peppers & Aji Verde This was classic Michelin-quality execution: clean, cold, balanced. The shiso added freshness while the green sauce brought subtle heat and depth. Elegant and very well done. 🍝 Spring Onion Rigatoni with Burrata, Pine Nuts & Summer Truffle Light, creamy, and comforting. The rigatoni was perfectly cooked, the burrata added richness without overwhelming the dish, and the pine nuts gave just enough texture. A solid and satisfying vegetarian pasta — not flashy, but deeply enjoyable. 🐠 Monkfish Roasted on the Bone with Summer Squash & Grapefruit Vierge This was interesting — not the bouncy, chicken-like monkfish you might expect in Japanese hot pot. This version was roasted and fell somewhere between monkfish and cod in texture: softer, flakier, still flavorful. The squash and grapefruit vinaigrette lightened the dish up nicely. 🥤 Drinks Although the bar program looked excellent, I wasn’t in the mood for alcohol at lunch. I asked for a non-alcoholic beverage, and what they delivered was thoughtfully crafted and genuinely delicious — not just an afterthought. 🕰️ One note: service can get a bit slow when the room is full, likely due to the open kitchen and high volume. If you’re on a tight lunch schedule, keep that in mind. 💡 Overall take: • High-level food, understated and thoughtful • Incredible value for $60 — especially given it shares the same kitchen system as the Michelin-starred dining room • Perfect for a quiet, unpretentious lunch with exceptional quality • I’d happily return during the next Restaurant Week — or even outside of it Highly recommended if you want to dip your toes into fine dining without the full tasting menu commitment. This is casual luxury done right.

I wanted to try the Restaurant Week menu, but I accidentally made a reservation for The Modern instead of the Bar Room. I was so confused at the moment but thankfully, Obi helped me get a seat at the Bar — he’s the BEST! 👍 As for the food, I didn’t expect much, since most major restaurants’ Restaurant Week menus don’t really live up to their reputation. However, the food was delicious, and I truly enjoyed the vibe and the service. I had the steak tartare, monkfish, and chocolate marquise (this one was a bit too sweet). Definitely recommend this place!

We came for restaurant week and it was SPECTACULAR! We started with lovely cocktails, a madern martini which had a hint of herby sweetness to it, a paper plane and a feench martini. They were strong and delicious and a great start. Th Steak tartare with crispy potatoes was ridiculously good, there was a sauce on top with eggs, chives among other wonderful flavors and the potatoes were heavenly. The sourdough toast was BEYOND, there was a hint or truffle and mint and the mayo was so creamy, and the sourdough was deliciously buttery. The ragatoni with truffle was light and delightful with a nice touch of truffle. The tagliatelle was fantastic and the rabbit was nicely cooked and seasoned. For deserts we had the chocolate marquise which was so special with the marshmallow and toffee accents. The strawberry shortcake bombe was a nice summery dessert. And the cocoa nib and malt sundae was the stuff of dreams. The chocolate desserts were the stars in my opinion but everything from start to finish was so delicious and the server was truly stellar. Just go here if you can. I loved it.

Loved it ..Great place for lunch. The food is delicious, service is quick and the bar area is nicely spacious. Great for business lunch as it offers good space between tables to allow for conversations. We had a delicious hot dog with caviar (yes with caviar) and tasted amazing. Main course were salmon (always great there) and pasta with lobster. Dessert was caramelized banana with ice cream. Portions are relatively small but each dish had its own strong taste.

Not to sure where to start with as this is probably one of the BEST restaurants in New York midtown area if you’d like a bite! The service was absolutely unparalleled. You absolutely CANNOT find anymore kinder servers than the ones here. Super attentive, caring, welcoming, and explained the menu super well. The food was amazing as well! Even the free bread was impeccable. Please please get the steak tartar! It pairs absolutely amazing with the crispy potatoes! And they’re super duper accommodating when it comes to dietary restrictions as well :)!

We had an amazing dining experience here. Our server, Will, was absolutely fantastic. He was warm and incredibly patient, which made our meal so enjoyable. When he noticed we spoke Chinese, he switched to Chinese and explained everything to us in detail. It was such a thoughtful touch, especially for international visitors. My mom doesn’t speak English, but thanks to Will, she felt so welcomed. The food was delicious, and the atmosphere was perfect. We will definitely be coming back! Highly recommend!

It seems like making a reservation is the best idea. We visited for lunch, and it packed up quite quickly. The food was okay. The service was good.

With its retro, 90s art gallery vibes, candlelit tables, polished silverware and excellent service, Michael’s is dripping with ambiance and is an ideal, quiet spot in the heart of the city. A small, albeit diverse menu should have something for everyone. Service was good, if a little slow and our waiter often seemed aloof. I was surprised to see how empty it was at 6 on a Saturday, but perhaps it gets busier in the evenings or during the week?

Food is ok, not spectacular as I had expected from previous reviews. The tomato was very good, but the rest was not very tasty. Service was great, the waiter’s was very attentive. The chair was badly worn and is in need of some tlc. It was not very busy when I was there.

Came here for dinner and was seated immediately with a reservation. Service was OK but not the friendliest but cordial and I appreciated they filled my water without asking. Food was overall solid but not innovative. I would not go out of my way to eat here. We ordered the following: - bucket and bubbles - soy glazed fried chicken with fries and bottle of wine - 8/10 chicken was juicy and tender and sauce was good but the batter was a bit thick. Dill ranch sauce was excellent and refreshing - tarte flambee - 7/10 it was good but nothing special. Pastry crust was flaky and flavors were balanced - tuna crudo - 5/10 this was a bit fishy and textures were not the best. The cut of tuna was also too thick which made it not the most pleasant mouthfeel - citrus salad - 10/10 so refreshing and a great palate cleanser - caviar hotdog - 7/10 this is a signature item but honestly nothing special. The hotdog was good but comparable to a Costco hot dog with caviar on top. This was too expensive for what it was - cod - 6/10 - this was drier than I'd like and nothing special. Potatoes were good - pork - 11/10 - this was excellent and some of the best pork I've had. It was tender and the sauce complemented the meat well - lobster - 7/10 - pasta was good and clearly handmade, you could taste the lobster in it and chunks of it. Flavor was well balanced but nothing too interesting - beignets - 9/10 loved the beignet but not the biggest fan of the eggnog filling. The dough was nice and airy

A lovely lunch at The Bar. I did the two course menu. Really enjoyed the steak tartare starter. It was accompanied by wonderful potatoes with a crispy shell and soft middle. No traditional yolk on the tartare, instead it was topped with a creamy dreamy gribiche sauce ( French egg sauce). While I liked the overall flavor of the rigatoni dish, it was too al dente for my taste. Looking forward to my next visit.

We came here for Restaurant Week and overall, the food was excellent. For appetizers, we had the chilled tuna marinated with shiso, peppers, and aji verde, and the steak tartare with crispy potatoes. Both were delicious—I especially appreciated the use of shiso in the tuna dish. For mains, we ordered the hand-cut tagliatelle with braised rabbit, lemon, and arugula, and the monkfish roasted on the bone with summer squash and grapefruit vierge. The tagliatelle with rabbit was my personal favorite—flavorful and perfectly balanced. Dessert included peaches and cream with Earl Grey chiffon and Meadow Creek extra-aged Appalachian cheese. The peaches and cream dish was the highlight of the night for me. We also ordered the famous fried chicken ($27) off the regular menu—it was very good, but the portion was surprisingly small for the price and came with a large pile of fries that felt more like filler than a thoughtful side. Unfortunately, the service didn’t match the quality of the food. Our server was extremely slow, took a long time to take our order, never checked in on us throughout the meal, and even forgot our dessert. He was attentive to other tables but seemed to avoid ours entirely. He only returned to clear our plates and drop off the check. For a restaurant with two Michelin stars, I expected a much higher level of service. It was disappointing and made me question whether we were treated differently because we chose the Restaurant Week menu. Giving 4 stars solely because the food was great, but the service left a lot to be desired.

So I came here with high expectations for a client dinner. From the beginning it took over an hour to begin our food order. So definitely don't come here if you're starving and want a quick turnaround. For drinks I ordered a sidecar and it was made beautifully. Ordered 5 by the end of the night. The steak was a bit underwhelming and fries plain. The shishito peppers on the other hand was coated in a delicious sauce that I'm still thinking about today.

Came here for a really special celebration with a few friends and honestly was very disappointed by our experience. We got the restaurant week menu and the food was phenomenal -- highlights were the steak tartare, heirloom tomato toast, rabbit tagliatelle, and the bread and cultured served at the beginning. Dessert was great too. What made the experience subpar was the service. We sat outside and ordered a bottle of wine, but bugs started to fall into our wine glasses that we barely drank so we let our server know. She was kind about it and even offered to seat us inside without us asking, which we were surprised about and took her upon her offer. However, once we were seated inside, the entire experience went downhill. We hadn't finished all of our food from outside, and they said they would take care of moving everything inside but they only brought in our appetizers and tossed our half eaten bread which we were hoping to finish. Our new wine glasses were filled with the remainder of the bottle of wine we ordered and we had to ask about the two glasses of wine that were taken from us due to bugs being in them (eventually someone came and refilled our glasses but I wish we didn't need to ask). We also waited 30-45 minutes before dessert was served and it only came because we had to ask for it. Overall, I would recommend the restaurant for food but wouldn't recommend it for the service. Given its price point and reputation, my friends and I were all very disappointed and it definitely put a damper on our night and celebration. We appreciated the staff trying to improve our experience initially but we would've much rather stayed outside had we known this was the experience we were going to receive.

We came here for Winter Restaurant Week 2026 with high expectations, but sadly the food was disappointing. The steak tartare was amazing!! However, the rest of the dishes were mediocre at best. The flatbread was okay but tasted like something you could get at any bar. As for the salmon — although the eggplant purée was tasty, the salmon itself lacked seasoning, and the purée wasn’t enough to make up for it. The person who took our order did her job, but she came across as cold and unfriendly. We understand that it’s Restaurant Week and things get busy, but for a restaurant with two Michelin stars, the food and service should be at a much higher level. We were very disappointed and honestly questioned its reputation, especially knowing it used to be excellent. We hope it can return to the quality it once had.

We visited the restaurant three times, the first time about two years ago in the bar was simply unforgettable, excellent dishes. It left us with a wonderful taste. The second time in the restaurant was an extraordinary experience, everything was delicious and special. Today at the bar, what a disappointment, we left the food on the plate, the service is excellent, the food is so disappointing. The starters are not tasty, boring. The main course, lobster ravioli, smelled bad, the fried chicken felt like fast food, the only dish we really liked was the Mont Blanc, the dessert was excellent, just a waste of money and time, a big disappointment
