⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Worth the Wait – A Memorable Dining Experience If you’re planning to visit Via Carota, be prepared to wait — it’s a popular spot and the wait time can be up to two hours. But let me tell you: it’s absolutely worth it. I started with one of their cocktails, and I was genuinely impressed — well-balanced, smooth, and crafted with care. For food, I ordered the charred pork belly with plums agrodolce and the octopus. The pork belly dish was the highlight: the sweetness of the plums paired with the char created an incredible balance of flavor that felt both refined and bold. Truly unforgettable. The octopus was flavorful as well — a bit overcooked in texture, but still enjoyable. The service was great, attentive but never rushed. If you’re looking for a quintessential New York dining experience with thoughtful dishes and a vibrant atmosphere, Via Carota is a must-visit. Just come with patience — the food makes the wait worth it.
The nduja arancini was ok. The boar pappardelle was really good. We both got it which we normally try to avoid but it really stood out on the menu for us both. The fried rabbit was good to share and pair with the pasta. The zabione was a great way to end the meal and might have been the highlight.
I will be drooling for the rest of my life after my lunch outing at Via Carota. I ate way too much, but when there is no hotel nearby and you can't take it to go and refuse to waste one drop of the magic that was on your plate, you eat it all.... Every single bite and there will never be one regret about it. This was Via Carota and what I ordered (picture attached) was Tagliatelle (with Parmesan, prosciutto & peas and a dash of hazelnut in the sauce, if I recall correctly). I had no reservation, walked right in around 11:30 am and got a spot at the bar! So good and definitely worth a visit (on a very, very empty stomach....).
I could never find a reservation here but it was good to know to go right at opening time for lunch. We were a party of 4 and didn’t have to wait at all. The food definitely lived up to the hype. Everything we ordered was delicious and well made! We ordered a bunch of stuff to share and none of us had any complaints. The only thing I was surprised about was the size of my grilled octopus. It was the tiniest piece and barely big enough to be counted as an entree. Regardless, we all had a great time and would def be back
This Italian classic in the city offers a fantastic menu, particularly their negroni-heavy cocktail menu. We tried the bicicletta and negroni 1397, both of which were delicious and transported us to an Italian trattoria. The grilled artichoke was an absolute must-try. I would go back just for that. The papardelle was good with a generous amount of parmigiano reggiano. The caccio e peppe was tasty, but it was a bit too salty. On the bright side, the tiramisu was one of the best in the city. Despite waiting 40 minutes on a Sunday afternoon, we highly recommend this restaurant.
Via Carota is a NYC staple. No frills space, super cozy, great for a simple but delicious italian meal. All the appetizers were good and the quality of the produce stands out in all of them. We loved the tomato cucumber salad and the burrata, as well as the sourdough bread to go along. Carbonara pasta is the star of the show, but don't sleep on the desserts: both the tiramisu and the strawberries with zabaione were great. Maybe not worth waiting in line for, but if you see a reservation spot open up, then snag it for sure.
I’ve been trying to snag a reservation here forever, but it’s tough—so we tried a midweek afternoon instead. We walked in at 2pm on a Tuesday as a party of four and waited about 15 minutes. Not bad at all. I even saw a solo diner get a spot at the bar, and a couple groups ahead of us were seated quickly without reservations. If Resy isn’t working out, I definitely recommend walking in and putting your name on the list (earlier is better). The food absolutely lives up to the hype. For starters, we loved the arancini (a slight kick, and I’m not big on spice, but these were fantastic), the bagna cauda with crisp crudités (that anchovy-garlic bath is packed with flavor), and the Insalata Verde—the sherry vinaigrette is so, so good. For pasta, we had a truffle mushroom special and the pappardelle with boar ragù, which was my favorite dish of the afternoon—rich, silky, and perfectly cooked. We also had their artichokes and leeks with the pasta—tender, well-seasoned, and very tasty. We shared their special 20oz ribeye, too—delicious and satisfying. Dessert did not disappoint: tiramisu and affogato, both excellent. And yes, I had to have an espresso martini to cap it off. All in all, Via Carota is worth the wait and the hype. I’ll be back on a free weekday—bar seat or table, I’ll take it.
Finally I found a bank holiday when I could face up the line to get a table and it was worth it. I was seated at a lovely communal table but with enough privacy. Food didn’t disappoint although our fish dishes were a bit heavy on the salt but still very yummy. Definitely worth the waiting for a table.
I was curious to check out this place because I adore Italian food and because of Taylor Swift taste. We had Negronis, svizzerina and pasta. The food itself was very tasty, the meat was fantastically cooked. However, the service felt a bit rushed. A server assistant was in a hurry to clear the table and removed some of our half-eaten olives, and kept trying to take my plate while we were still eating. Hear me out - sometimes guests just want to eat and talk without being rushed. We know about 90 minutes rule. It was also slightly noisy. Overall, if you’re looking for a bit more privacy, I recommend requesting a table by the window or bar as you seat close to each other. In general would come back as everything was clean and beautifully presented.
This is hands down the best rabbit dish I’ve had on the East Coast, even better than the bistro I tried in Boston. The hostess was wonderful and super kind; we walked in and were seated right away. We’ve been so lucky lately 🥰 The pasta was on the oilier side, but incredibly flavorful and aromatic. Absolutely delicious. Will definitely be coming back!
We had been eager to visit Via Carota for quite some time—especially as it is said that Taylor Swift may have dined here before. On December 23, we decided to stop by at lunchtime on a whim, hoping to get a table, as reservations were already fully booked. Luckily, we were offered seats at the bar. From the moment we entered, we were struck by the restaurant’s authentic and cozy atmosphere. During our enjoyable 1.5-hour stay, we had the pleasure of tasting several delicious dishes, some of which were recommended by our server. The service—primarily provided by the gentleman behind the bar—was genuine, friendly, efficient, and perfectly suited to the character of this place. We enjoyed every single dish and treated ourselves to a Spagliato as well. The price-to-quality ratio felt right to us. While it was on the pricier side for lunch, we are true food lovers and are more than happy to spend money on high-quality ingredients and excellent cuisine. We can wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant. Thank you for a warm, delicious, and memorable lunch!
Woah. This place was very high on my list to visit. A reservation opened up, so I jumped on it. The restaurant blew me away. The service, food, and atmosphere were all immaculate. The risotto, and carrot were the stand outs. Those carrots were one of the best dishes I’ve ever tried. Will definitely be back.
We had a very memorable dinner here. The ambience is surprisingly calm and non pretentious. Had to wait for 20 mins on a Thursday night which was fine because there was excellent jazz being played next door at Arthur’s which you could enjoy. Folks in the restaurant were nicest. Excellent classic Italian. Heard a lot about Via Carota and Chef Jody Williams, and when it was recognized by North America’s Best 50 last year, I finally decided to give it a try. We came for a weekday lunch and were seated without a wait at the communal table in the back. Still thoughtfully spaced, with an empty seat between groups. Given Chef Williams’s background, the menu was a mix of Tuscan and Roman. Territory I’m fairly familiar with coming from Boston. We ordered a few classics like the grilled artichoke, cacio e pepe, and potato ravioli ragu (daily special). Portions were a bit small for the price, but the execution was flawless. One thing we really loved was their iconic cacio e pepe. Most trattorias I’ve been to rely on dried pasta for a firmer al dente bite, but Chef Williams used fresh pasta across the menu. And it worked beautifully here. Silky and supple, yet still retaining a satisfying snap. More importantly, the sauce had a bold, unapologetic pepperiness that I’ve never felt before from other trattorias in the U.S. Perhaps Via Carota might not be a place people chase for excitement, but it’s the kind of restaurant I’d regularly visit if it was in my neighborhood. Highly recommend giving them a try for comforting, well-executed Italian classics.

We decided to put our name down and were given a table in 45 minutes — worth every single minute of the wait. Absolutely sublime food. You can truly tell how much care goes into everything they do. The fresh egg pastas are outstanding, the salad was spectacular, and the bruschetta with house-made bread was incredible. Everything was flawless. The space is super cozy and beautiful, and the service was a solid 10/10. The egg tagliatelle with prosciutto was one of the best pasta dishes I’ve ever had in my life. That butter… simply wow. No words. 10/10 — we will definitely be back. 🍝✨

Wanted to try this place for over a year and finally got to shortly before halloweekend - started waiting in line right at 5 pm and got a table by the windows shortly after. Loved the rustic vibes here and our server gave us a very thorough rundown of the weekly and monthly specials. The mushroom and truffle pasta was interesting, but not as flavorful as I thought it would be. I really liked the veggie soup and broccoli. We got a special dessert with pear, red wine and creme and it wasn’t great, but glad we tried it anyway!
Overall, Via Carota was a great experience. We walked in after standing in line at 4:30 and were offered a table after waiting for about 10 minutes for either 5pm (immediate seating) or 6:15. We chose the second option so returned back later to sit down. We had a lovely table by the window and our server was great. We were offered complementary castelvetrano olives marinated in olive oil. We then ordered bread and olive oil, the leaks with sheep cheese curds, the radicchio salad (I forget the name of it on the menu), the artichokes, and caccio e peppe pasta. The pasta was the star of the show—hands down the best caccio e peppe I’ve ever had. The artichokes were also insanely delicious and lemony, served with a delicious aioli. However, the salad was really heavy. There was so much oil, that it pooled at the bottom of the dish and there was so much cheese I sometimes got a full mouthful of it. At first we weren’t sure if it was just a really heavy salad and it wasn’t to our taste, but then we saw another one come out to the table next to us that was dressed much more lightly. I think ours ended up getting too much dressing and cheese, so we weren’t even able to finish it, and we both love radicchio salad a lot! So that was a shame. The leeks also fell a bit flat. They were really nicely crunchy on the bottom and tender in the middle, but were under seasoned so we needed extra salt (there is not much of the salty cheese curds on top). The flavor was also not very multidimensional when compared to the rest of the meal. So overall, we really enjoyed it and I’d be willing to give it a second shot but it did not fully live up to the hype.
The staff was very friendly and they did a great job of seating people quickly. The inside of the restaurant is very cute and has a vibe. I think the food was good, very good, but it didn’t necessarily blow me away. The Cacio e Pepe was great as well as the salad. My favorite was as the panna cotta! So good!
Couldn’t get a reservation, so we walked in on a Saturday afternoon and waited about an hour and a half—but it was worth it! The vibe at Via Carota is amazing, full of energy and charm. We tried the famous tonnarelli and it absolutely lived up to the hype—the pasta was perfectly cooked with great texture. The polipo was another highlight: it smelled incredible, and the outside was deliciously crispy. If you’re willing to wait, Via Carota is a must-visit for unforgettable pasta and a lively atmosphere.

I just can’t understand the hype of this place. Everything was so mediocre, I wouldn’t come back. I think it’s worth a try just to cross it off a list but don’t go in with high expectations. The veggie dishes and pasta were just okay. I also ordered the rabbit and it came out like a piece of dry KFC chicken. However, the drinks were really good.
Via Carota remains one of the West Village’s most charming dining rooms, but the experience doesn’t always match the legend. The vegetable-forward plates are thoughtful, the pastas rustic and comforting, and the ambience undeniably elegant. Yet the execution can be uneven: seasoning varies from dish to dish, and wait times stretch long even with a reservation. Service feels more “hands-off” than attentive. A pleasant meal overall, but the hype sets expectations higher than the kitchen consistently delivers.
Food here was great - cacio e pepe, arancini, and tiramisu were the standouts. Service and experience was subpar. There was a big line of people putting their names down and it felt like a revolving door of business travelers and tourists. They forgot my wife’s birthday and the entire exchange was curt and transactional with the waitress. Nothing felt special or memorable. The food was the highlight and I’m glad we got to try it, but I won’t be recommending it to my friends.
The service is good. Atmosphere is normal for a NYC restaurant. The food is overpriced for such small portion sizes, and I was disappointed with the dishes after reading so much about the restaurant. The cacio e pepe was oily and not anything special. The grilled sea bream was pretty good but a bit salty. The artichokes were nice but it was such a small portion for $25. I would not come back.
