First time visit. Nice decor, lighting nice and mellow, not feeling like you are being interrogated in some places. Staff are very attentive, polite and friendly from when you first walk in. Food was is well cooked and presented, absolutely no complaints for the food. The price is more on the steep side, but it is good value because of the quality. We will return!!
The key call out for this restaurant is the service which is excellent. The staff were pleasant, polite and professional. The food was good and the atmosphere is perfect if want to go for a relaxing meal and being able to have a chat. I would strongly recommend the espresso martinis as they were one of the best I've ever had.
Booked a table for 2, food was amazing, service top class. When it is your birthday they even sing for you, the whole staff wish you happy birthday. Staff very respectful, prices acceptable, nice environment, good music. First time ever I was happy to pay for service charge, well done. Any improvement: could review the dish portion, seems small for its price. Overall very very good.
This is one of the best Thai restaurants you will ever visit the service, and staff are efficient and friendly. The food is excellent. The pork skewers are moist and succulent, and the duck with honey with tamarind is one of my favourites. My only criticism is that they are not nearer London. Having said that, I would probably put on twice my weight! I can not recommend this restaurant enough and is a must to anyone who visits Newcastle.
Went in for a late lunch around 3.30 and had a selection from the 2/3 course early evening menu. Food was excellent and the service was exemplary. It was a little more expensive than other Thai restaurants I have visited but it didn't feel like unfair pricing. The building is beautifully decorated, the staff were very attentive to our needs and you could see the food was made with fresh ingredients. A great experience overall and one I can wholeheartedly recommend.
Highly recommended..not necessarily easy to find if you don't know Newcastle but very near Quayside and a wonderful, tasteful Thai experience. Food amazing..service excellent and quick in a very busy restaurant. Defo need to reserve a table. Will definitely be returning and excellent value for money. And GF was easy, a big range to choose from. Delicious 😋
Really enjoyed our visit here. A lovely warm atmosphere with really friendly staff. Everyone was super helpful. The menu offered some great choices, will definitely be back to try more dishes! The food was really tasty, so much flavour and very good portion sizes. Can't wait to be back
*It was our first time trying Thai food, and we truly had a wonderful experience!* The food was absolutely delicious and full of flavor. We also received a few complimentary items like Thai coffee, ice cream, and papad, which made the experience even more special. The restaurant was clean and hygienic, which added to our comfort. A special thanks to *Ms. Kavya*, who guided us through the menu so kindly. She welcomed us with a warm smile and provided excellent service throughout our visit. Overall, we really enjoyed both the food and the atmosphere. We would definitely love to visit again!
Great restaurant full stop! The Thai food here is of high quality and the service is great. The staff are all very friendly! It's the most expensive Thai food I've had but due to the location and the size of the restaurant it's understandable! And of course the food is amazing! Highly recommend this place! I'll definitely go again! Hopefully with a date 🌹 🤪
It's my husband's dinner date surprise for me coz it's my birthday 😊.Staff were friendly and helpful. This restaurant had an amazing and delicious food from starter to dessert.I really like the squid ,it's spicy but yummy. Its good coz it's with free parking area too 😊. Excellent service
Oh my gosh ! If you have not tried the food here you are missing out. The atmosphere was lovely! Stylish comfortable and enjoyable. We had someone who could not eat pork on the starter and they let them choose another option to have which was very custom and nice. Beer was very nice too. The food …. Out of this world ! Thai flavours and spice were amazing. Beautiful place to eat ! Can’t wait for my next visit soon ! Would recommend to all !
I don’t dish out the big 5s all that often but let’s have it. The servers are absolutely lovely, very respectful with a fast service time. The seats are comfy and there’s a good wait time between ordering and food, so you know they’re actually cooking your food rather than reheating Vegetable springyz: 4/5 they are what they are but a solid rendition Pork skewers: 4/5 solid well cooked dish but an extra skewer wouldn’t have hurt anyone Thai fried squid: 4/5 good portion well cooked with a nice dip Massaman curry (replaced chicken with tofu to make it vegan): 5/5 really tasty dish tastes super fresh, special shout out for the menu alteration to hook us up King prawn pad Thai: 5/5 beautiful juicy fresh well cooked prawns, highly recommend Crispy pork belly in Thai chilli jam: 6/5 beautifully cooked with a lovely sauce. I could have ate it twice. Jasmine rice / coconut rice also beautiful Special shout out to the little tray of spices and nuts you get delivered to the table to add to your meal Willy nilly Highly highly recommended, the only caveat I’d use is that it’s not the cheapest, so if you’re on a tight budget it’s probably not suitable.
Came here for a birthday dinner and Wow, loved it! Highlight for us was the Pork ribs starter and coconut rice. The service was great and the atmosphere was great. As the restaurant was busy, the waitress offered us some complimentary cocktails while waiting for our main. They also gave us a free birthday dessert when we asked for the bill. One of the best Thai restaurants I've been to.
Wonderful Thai Dining Experience I had an excellent experience at this Thai restaurant. The food was beautifully presented, fresh, and full of authentic flavors. The dishes we tried—from the crispy tempura and flavorful skewers to the vibrant papaya salad and rich stir-fried —were all delicious and thoughtfully prepared. Every plate looked as good as it tasted. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the service was genuinely outstanding. The staff were attentive, friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed throughout the meal without ever feeling rushed. Overall, a fantastic place for anyone craving quality Thai cuisine. Highly recommended, and I’ll definitely be coming back!
genuinely one of the best Thai restaurants i've been to . truthfully I came here in Newcastle restaurant week expecting a standard meal- it seemed like the best value for money and we just wanted some good food. walked to the entrance, instantly impressed because its pretty from the outside. the location is tucked away from the quayside and there's not much traffic around that area so it is quite literally a hidden gem. we then were greeted by our waitress who was so sweet and had amazing makeup on, I had to compliment her. in terms of the starter, I ordered the ribs which were quite big and tasty. some of them were a little bit fatty however if im being nitpicky. friends ordered spring rolls and chicken pieces which were amazing and really tasty. then the main. star of the show was the Thai green curry - never had it before this but it was truly beautiful. it was light, sweet with coconut, soft juicy chicken pieces (which they were very liberal with), vegetables that fell apart in your mouth, almost had a florally aspect to it. the rice with it was sticky jasmine rice and paired the curry very nicely. we ate the meal in silence because we were so absorbed in the flavours and the full experience of our food- no phones, no talking, just eating. then came a fun little experience with the waitress. we got given these crispy minty chocolates (looked like little gold coins). they worked great as a palate cleanser and also tasted really good. I asked the waitress if we could have some more and she came back with 10 more chocolates for us haha. we were eating upstairs, walking past a gong, on the way up, and I was tempted to ring it so I asked if I could and they said of course- it was designed for good luck and prosperity and I had to hit it 3 times. me and my friends all did this. so we came out with a full belly and good luck with our prospects in life. all in all, I think it was a successful restaurant trip!
Had such a lovely experience at Mantra Thai. I ordered the king prawn fried rice and it was absolutely delicious — full of flavour and perfectly cooked. The green broccoli side was also very tasty and fresh, which I really enjoyed. What made the visit even more special was how kind they were to the children. They gave them a little treat for finishing their food, which made their day and showed such thoughtful customer service. Great food, warm atmosphere, and family-friendly service. I’ll definitely be coming back again.
Everything about Mantra is fabulous. I haven’t had such a fantastic Thai meal in a long time. All elements were well balanced and delicious. Salt and chilli spare ribs were perfectly seasoned with tasty meat. We both had curries: chicken green (one of the best I’ve had) and roast duck red curry (also delicious) with sticky rice. We enjoyed having delicious crunchy veg in the curry too adding an extra texture. Drinks were good: Malbec and Strawberry Mojito (with punchy strawberry opal fruits vibe!). Other diners also looked very happy - particularly the ‘sizzling’ dishes. Staff were lovely. Wonderful all round.
Their new breakfast menu is absolutely delicious! The Thai Eggs Benedict is a standout — perfectly poached eggs paired with flavorful satay chicken, beautifully presented and perfectly balanced. The Crispy Duck with the cruffle is another creative highlight — tender, flavorful duck paired with their special sauce, a truly delicious and well-matched combination. The portions are just right, and everything tastes amazing (I’ve tried it myself!). The Americano is wonderfully aromatic, and the latte comes with an oat milk option. The matcha latte is especially popular — rich, smooth, and beautifully crafted. They also offer a wide variety of choices, including a more traditional Full English breakfast as well as teriyaki salmon. Each dish comes with well-balanced, nutritious vegetables, making the whole menu both satisfying and wholesome. Highly recommended!
We had a delicious meal here over Christmas. Tasty, fresh food and great service, I’d highly recommend Mantra if you’re looking for somewhere to eat in Newcastle.
Great food and service! I’ve tried ginger mojito that was really nice. Green curry and duck spring rolls were absolutely delicious too.
I can’t fault this place. My third visit and the food is always impeccable. There’s so much choice but I keep coming back to the Lamb Shank Penang curry. Very authentic and generous portion, the lamb is so tender. My partner got the Thai Red Curry with beef. We share Salt and Chilli spare rips with the Duck Spring Rolls to start, aswell as the crackers which are simple but great. Washed down with draught Tiger🤌🏼. Great service, great food and a nice atmosphere.
Our recent dining experience at Mantra Thai was nothing short of exceptional. The restaurant's recent renovation has truly elevated the ambiance, creating a cool and relaxed setting that sets the stage for a comfortable dining experience. We were delighted to discover that the lunch menu now features a variety of new dishes, and we couldn't resist trying their delightful 2-course lunch special. I opted for the lunch special set, starting with crispy prawns as my starter, followed by the spicy king prawns tom yum noodle soup as my main course. Let me tell you, the noodle soup completely blew me away. The flavors were extraordinary, leaving me thoroughly impressed. My partner ventured for the roasted duck with tamarind sauce, and he couldn't stop raving about it. According to him, it was the best roasted duck he had ever tasted, boasting a perfect combination of crispy skin and tender meat. It was truly a treat for the taste buds. For my cousin, the steamed seabass in seafood sauce brought back cherished memories of his hometown in Thailand. The dish was prepared with utmost care and authenticity, capturing the essence of Thai cuisine flawlessly. To end our meal on a sweet note, I couldn't resist indulging in a slice of their delectable carrot cake. Paired with a cup of aromatic coffee, it was the perfect way to conclude our culinary journey at Mantra Thai. Overall, our experience at Mantra Thai Dining was truly enjoyable. The food was not only scrumptious but also showcased the skill and passion of the chefs. The delightful ambiance further enhanced our dining pleasure, providing a relaxed and inviting atmosphere. The attentive service we received throughout our visit was the cherry on top, making us feel well taken care of. 🚗 Free parking
Discovered this restaurant as it was one of the few places open near our hotel when we got in from a 5 hour drive. The staff were lovely enough to seat us 15 mins before the kitchen closed. The food was delicious and came out super hot. We opted for the set menu which was a starter and a main for £20. I would recommend the salt and pepper ribs
Wow, what an incredible experience! This was our first visit, but it definitely won't be the last! The atmosphere was absolutely amazing, and the restaurant itself was charming. Our server, Kavya, was outstanding—she had fantastic recommendations and was so polite and patient with us. And let's not forget the manager, Bodhi, who was equally excellent! Overall, it was absolutely worth it, and I can't wait to return!
The food is delicious and the service is amazing! Don’t miss the Thai Milk Tea if u have sweet tooth 😉
Absolutely flawless restaurant in every way. Food is consistently exceptional, service is incredible and the restaurant itself is gorgeous. We would dine here every week! Thank you for a brilliant dining experience. (@the.northlife on Instagram)
Amazing authentic traditional Thai dishes. Lovely staff and service! A must to go to and return too. Highly recommend!
Been here several times now. Absolutely love it. Looking forward to returning sometime now that it has been refurbished. Great food, great staff and quite affordable. I guess we were lucky when we were asked to sample their latest sorbet flavours. Absolutely delightful.
Honestly, I will be thinking about that meal for years to come, and would like to thank the chefs for such an amazing meal. This place offers great value for money, with good portion sizes. To start, the BBQ Ribs may just be the best I have ever had, and the Chicken Satay Skewers were so tender and refreshing. For the main, I had to try the Duck in Tamarind Sauce and with a portion of Egg Fried Rice. The Rice will be in my dreams tonight as it was so good and the Duck cooked perfectly, and truly out of this world! The service was excellent and the waitresses were really attentive. I felt looked after, however most of the staff did seem alittle chaotic at times. A great restaurant that I highly recommend visiting, even if your on your own!
Absolutely delicious food - well worth the trip. I visited here for dinner on a Monday night with a few colleagues. The venue was busy but we could have got a seat without booking. We got a few starters which arrived pretty quickly and were all delicious. The mains we also got were fantastic. There is a huge variety on their menu which was great and everything we had was lovely. The restaurant had a good atmosphere and was really suited for colleagues, meeting friends or date nights. Would definitely go again and I have a feeling that it is a place worth booking in advance to avoid missing out!
6/5 🤩🤩🤩 I am soooo in-love with this place 🥰🥰 It is sooo perfect 🥰 The ambience is perfect. The food is mouthwatering. The staffs are great! Been here twice already, but pretty sure I will come back 😉
We had an amazing time trying their Adventure through Thailand tasting menu. The staff were so kind and gave us so much detail about the history and culture behind the food. There was also so much attention to detail, even our names on the menus! So professional and on the whole amazing tasting food. The most authentic Thai in Newcastle hands down!!
Such a good atmosphere and delicious food for their 11 year anniversary night. Heartfelt input from the owners to create lots of different dishes for us to try. I still love my favourites but wow we can add some more to that list. Would love to see tamarind duck back on the menu. Such a lovely restaurant who cook from the heart
What a great find right near the river and Life Science Centre! My friend and I came here for lunch with our children during a trip to Newcastle and were so impressed! They brought the kids complimentary juice moments after we sat down. The kids menu offered kid-friendly and healthy options including teriyaki, satay or katsu curry chicken, all served with rice, broccoli and cucumber & carrot sticks. Our food was also fresh and delicious, the satay chicken, chilli lime squid and green curry were all great. Service was friendly and fast as well. Thank you for a lovely afternoon ☺️
Great food full of flavour, friendly staff, would definitely recommend. Between the party we had lamb shank panang curry, thai style beef in oyster sauce and the duck spring rolls, with the sticky rice. We usually frequent Thaikhun in the metrocentre, but this place is in my opinion a lot better. Will definitely be back.
We have been coming here for years, and it gets better every time. The garlic butter sizzle prawns are a must, and the beef spicy noodles with Thai basil are to die for. The service is always brilliant and very fast, with a great selection of beers and wines. Absolutely wonderful spot and our favourite Thai restaurant in Newcastle with beautiful interior 🩷
Came here for date night during restaurant week and had some lovely food apart from my main (Thai Sweet & Sour Chicken) that was quite bland and not so tasty. On the other hand the starters were so delicious and my margarita was lovely! The staff in this restaurant are also very welcoming and warm and made sure we were attended to despite the restaurant being very busy. I’ll definitely return to try some other mains on the menu!
Went on Valentine's Day, arrived and our table wasn't ready for us despite booking ahead, however, staff accommodated by providing drinks menus so we could order ahead of time. Our drinks didn't arrive to our table until half an hour later. We can appreciate that it was a busy day and it seemed clear that staff were overwhelmed (potentially understaffed?), however the wait times for food and drink was quite a while. Food was unbelievable, the lamb and duck were brilliant. The desserts were underwhelming, two tiny brownies. For £48 per person would have wanted a bit more selection and for the portion sizes, particularly for the desserts to have been better. Will definitely have to try again on a different day with a normal menu.
Chose this place on recommendation and location close to the arena. Lovely food let down by poor service on this occasion. Had to request cutlery, requests for water were ignored and were charged for prawn crackers that we never received. First time visiting and it was busy. Prices at the higher end but I would definitely go back, overall good experience
Ordered calamari for starter, lamb pasanda and coconut rice for main. Took quite a while for the food to be served. They recommended a set dinner menu for groups more than 4 but its more expensive than a la carte. We didn't order on the service menu. I would recommend for good food.
Sadly, not the best experience. We saw the offer of an early bird menu - valid until 5pm. Booked a table for 4.45pm, turned up on time and was seated by 4.50pm. We were then told that the early bird menu finished at 5pm and we couldn't have this option. Odd, given that it was before 5pm. Regardless, we ordered. The chicken satay for starters was lovely, the lamb massaman was fine (ok, but had better), but the beef short rib in a Penang sauce was poor. The sauce tasted good, but was very greasy. More importantly, the short rib hadn't been cooked properly. It was cooked, but was tough. It didn't cut well and was very stringy. There was a large amount of fat on the ribs too - see picture. Overall, I had to leave the beef, but ate the sauce. Mentioned it to the server, who was sympathetic, but obviously, nothing she could do. Not overly expensive, but not worth the money.
On entrance the restaurant has a nice atmosphere with ambient music that’s not too loud and not too quiet. Chicken stater was a basic starter can’t really go wrong, not great not awful. For the main I went with the red curry with beef, it was served with a pot of white rice. In comparison to other red curry’s I’ve had it had a little bit more heat to it which I enjoyed along side lots of miscellaneous veggies (courgette, cucumber, butter squash i believe) which I don’t believe to be traditional as far as my little knowledge goes, i definitely could be wrong but overall it was an ok curry 6/10 it done the job. left slightly hungry after two corses. The main issue for me is the price in comparison to other Thai restaurants it’s hard to think I’m not just paying extra for the gimmick of the nice building and “fancy” atmosphere which I don’t mind if the food lives up to it while the food wasn’t bad per say, it wasn’t anything I couldn’t get for half the price at a different establishment in walking distance. As for the staff review they were excellent, very friendly and service with a smile only marked down slightly due to forgetting somethings but I’ll never hold that against them especially during a busy period
Just visited as this is our regulars but has been a while since our last visit. The food is lovely as always but i dont know if its because its a monday but we felt the service wasnt great and the value for money seems somewhat more expensive. Firstly the service, she forgot it was our anniversary which has never happened here before and they dont really seemed to care. We usually get crackers at the start before ordering but this didnt seem to happen (not sure if we always paid this but we're sure this used to be free?). Secondly the cost is about an extra £20 including a service charge. We used to get a drink and two cocktails, a pad thai and two massamans for about £80 but it came to £97. Due to the service and the cost we refused to pay the service charge. This used to be our favourite thai place spending 7 anniversarys here but seems to have gone down hill with a higher cost. We will be looking elsewhere. From a grumpy customer.
After many recommendations from friends and family, we gave Mantra Thai a try. The table booking process was easy and the days leading to the booking, I received several confirmation emails which was great. The service was acceptable. There were many staffs around and they were tentative enough. Nothing extraordinary however. We ordered 2 starters and 2 mains. The 2 starters were Crispy Fried Squid and Duck Spring Roll. The 2 mains were Thai Red Curry Beef and Crispy Pork Belly in Thai Chilli Sauce. The Crispy Fried Squid was great. The batter was seasoned nicely with a hint of lime. The Squid was not chewy and tasted fresh. The spicy dip was the star of the dish. It was spicy, saucy and sweet. Really good sauce. The Duck Spring Roll was brilliant. It was thick and packed with duck and vegetables. Paired with the Hoi Sin sauce, it was also a great starter. On to the mains: Thai Red Curry Beef was frankly, unacceptable. All the ingredients tasted as if they were blanched without a hint of seasoning where the curry was simply poured on top. The beef was as tasteless as paper where the plain rice had more flavour than it. The amount of beef was also shockingly small, I counted about 10 pieces of thin less than inch wide beef. Crispy Pork Belly in Thai Chilli Sauce was fine. But that's all there is to it. It was neither spicy enough nor Crispy enough. The dish felt like an after thought, especially when there were about 6 pieces of pork belly in it. Overall, for a restaurant of this price point, it is not worth a second visit.
A good selection of food and a nice setting. My last visit was good, but not great. Visited as part of a large group and starters came out barely warm, the main was good but not fantastic. I would go again, hopefully it was just a busy night and the staff weren't prepared for such a large group.
Beautiful restaurant, but sadly had to walk out as they did not have a single vegetarian main on their main menu (with the exception of a single mushroom dish that was costed at the same price as chicken!). Server was very kind, but seemed a bit clueless about the menu and was unable to offer any suitable alternatives. I feel like most places would be willing to just add tofu to one of their sauces or something. It’s 2025!
