One of my absolute favorite places for a Celiac safe (gluten-free) meal. They are the best!!! Always worth the drive. You have to try the nachos they are out of this world!!!
Amazing food and being Costarican it was nostalgic to have Gallo Pinto like from home. My mother loved it and really appreciated having a food from her country with the same flavor. The atmosphere is amazing and service exceptional.
If you are GF/vegan and love Nachos, the "Most Excellent Nachos" are the best I have ever had, and they truly are most excellent. I loved the hearty homemade tortillas. It is listed as an appetizer, but I ordered it with guacamole, and it was enough for two meals! The guacamole was not overly spicy, which I prefer. I went to this spot a few times on a visit to LI, and it did not disappoint. It's a little pricey but worth it for the high quality. I appreciated that they were open on NYE and New Year's Day. Supremely filling and tasty. I will be back, as the menu covers multiple food styles (Thai, American, Latin, Sushi, etc.) and offers so many vegan and GF options. Highly recommended for filling, tasty and healthy food.
We recently rediscovered The Purple Elephant and are glad we did. The atmosphere is cozy, the service attentive and prices are quite reasonable. The food is of the highest quality and taste with a menu that has loads of vegetarian and vegan options along with non-vegetarian ones as well. If you are gluten free, there’s plenty to choose from as well. The prices are very good for the area and quality. This will likely become one of our new favorite places in 2026.
Excellent vegan options excellent food! Really beautiful atmosphere! Something for everyone on the menu. The service was incredible. The prices were right for the quality of food. They even had yummy vegan desserts.
The purple elephant It offers a gastronomic experience based on the Spanish tropical concept, from its delicious fried yuca to burritos that deliver protein from start to finish. It has a wide variety of drinks, including horchata! And its dessert menu features a delicious and traditional rice pudding "arroz con leche" Its charming terrace, overlooking the bay and the boats, provides the perfect touch for a comfortable and atmospheric afternoon.
The atmosphere is super cute, with a purple elephant statue out front. I came for dinner on a Sunday night, and sat on the back covered patio. The waitstaff was friendly and the service was quick. I got horchata to drink, a weekly special, crispy enoki mushrooms as my appetizer, and Gong Bao “Beef” tacos as my entree. Everything was super delicious. The mushrooms were the perfect texture, and the sauce made the dish! The portion size for the tacos was huge, and I ended up having enough leftovers for a hole second meal. Overall, I was really impressed with the variety of vegan options on the menu, and everything I ate was amazing.
A pretty cool establishment that serves mostly vegetarian food. I love the assortment of cuisines, they serve vegan wings, tacos and Asian inspired entrees. The nachos were so yummy and the cheese didn't even taste like cashew cheese. The vegan wings were very good but I wish it came with more than three wings. The stuffed spaghetti squash was also very delicious. The portion is very large and it was packed with green peppers, red peppers, garlic and vegan chicken. It does taste very strongly of tomatoes so you should avoid it if you hate tomatoes.
Amazing vegan food! I have been to so many vegan restaurants in Long Island, Brooklyn, Manhattan, LA and this is def top 5 of my all time favorite. The food is delicious, the server was very kind and accommodating with our 6 month old in a stroller. You can eat outside in the back patio where you can see a beautiful view or inside with good Cold AC. Bathroom was super clean. I loved the decoration on the walls and the vibe was very relaxed. People were very relaxed and casual as well. I felt super comfortable and the staff were smiling and very friendly. The vegan food in the pictures were all 5/5 stars! Can’t recommend this place enough. The cons: parking is limited and have sign for some spots that are limited only to 45 minutes. I ignored the time limit and was fine. Proceed at your own risk.
Super cute place by the water. Came here with a friend but did what to expect as it seems like it's mostly vegetarian dishes but was pleasantly surprised. Really enjoyed the nachos and the shrimp with guac on plantains. Decor is pretty eclectic. Owner was very nice and staff were great. Will come by again next time we're in town.
The Purple Elephant is a vegan restaurant located in Northport. The Thai Tofu Wrap with Chicken was what I ate. It tasted amazing. There is a small bar inside, and you truly pass a purple elephant as you enter. There is sitting both outside and indoors. Featuring a 45-s record wall and vibrant colors, the theme is somewhat eclectic. There are a lot of options for all tastes.
Loved the ambiance of this restaurant that is set off a wooded street and right near the water. There is outdoor seating on their back bacolony that allows you to view the harbor and a small outdoor area at the front. The Purple Elephant statue is definitely a kid attraction, as they are compelled to climb aboard to take pics. Lot's of Vegan options, as well as some Non-Vegan. The Buffalo Cauliflower was a big hit, as well as the Shrimp Patacones with Guacamole (served on fried plantain patties), and the Onion Rings. I ordered the Vegan Bean Burger with Yucca Fries. Not a fan of the burger, but the yucca fries were yummy. The burger flavor was there, but it was not appealing to the eye and it crumbled out of the bun. I wound up eating it with a fork. We ended our meal with desserts. The mini cheesecakes were delish, but as stated on the menu, they are mini, 2 bite-sized pieces. The rice pudding was delish, but the Vegan Creme Brulee was super dry.
Casual sit down spot with friendly staff and service. Very happy with their expanse of vegan meals available. Pictured are their far out chili yuca fries, uncle Rio's breakfast burrito, and their vegan drumsticks. The burrito was absolutely awesome. Wasn't a huge fan of the seating though, it felt a bit crowded. But the food was worth it.
First time visit based on reviews. Our waiter, Armando, was friendly, and offered entree suggestions based on demand. However, The shrimp wrap was a lot of rice and the pork tacos were average. Cosmo and Lemonade Mocktail were excellent. Nice view of the harbor. Lots of vegan and GF options. Worth a stop, especially if you’re vegan and or gluten sensitive.
I was in the area & excited to try this place for dinner. Our first waiter didn’t know how to answer our questions & wasn’t informative at all. Thank goodness another server took his place since we asked for more time with the menu. 🦋 inside & outside dining available 🦋 loved the ambience & atmosphere, great decor throughout the restaurant, definitely loved the vibes. Outside patio faces the marina, very nice. Very picturesque, & Instagramable location 🦋I tried the horchata (I’ve had better) and one of the house specials: the porch swing (very sweet) 🦋 Thai elephant wings were good (but mid way felt very heavy, greasy , & it didn’t make me feel good) 🦋I wanted to try the burrito, but they said it’s only available at lunch time… 🦋 creamy pesto pasta…way beyond tasteless…oh my felt like it was fake pesto flavor and mostly pasta…that dish needs to be reevaluated & made with love or something…so dissatisfying 🦋 my friend got the beef tacos…& she was dissatisfied as well…she said the meat was over cooked & she couldn’t finish it.. Overall loved the ambiance & atmosphere…but the food looked good…but the quality & taste wise…Not really
Ambiance is 10/10, but food was a fail unfortunately. This place advertises as having healthy plant-based options, but as a vegan I can confidently say some of these items are just a flop and not tasty. For starters, their pickled vegetables that come with every dish are just terrible. This is coming from someone who loves pickled anything. Additionally, more than half of their menu items unfortunately just have that "too healthy" taste if you know what I mean. They're either dry, flavorless, or simply not what the menu advertises it to be. For example, their "whopper" literally tastes like beans and grass. Additionally, their Greek salad with "feta" is just raw unseasoned tofu crumbled over. Again, this is coming from a vegan who eats relatively clean and enjoys the health food spots in town. It just seems like there was a lack of flavor or effort put into a number of their dishes. Additionally, the food is not cheap. If I'm paying that much, I would hope to clean my plate and thoroughly enjoy the food. However, in contrast, the desserts are excellent (rice pudding/chocolate mouse). I'm assuming they outsource their desserts considering the vast contrast from their food. I would say it's worth picking another spot for dinner and heading here for dessert.
