Great food. Outdoor seating is great on a nice summer day. Great beer selection. Highly recommended!❤️
Best fried clams. Breezy in easy out, it's the surprise roadside picnic you didn't know you needed. (dogs welcome)
Best burger ive had. Went here for the first time with my mom. I had a burger mom had a lobster roll. Both were done to perfection.
Stopped for a quick bite and calamari and fish taco were excellent and Jane the bartender/waitress was very pleasant.
The food is so amazing! I love the experience and ambiance. You will not regret coming here.
Been going over 50 years, still awesome! Good food , beautiful atmosphere...love it..forever!
Always loved this place for the fresh seafood. One of the only places I'll eat raw clams
One of the best places I’ve been going too every summer. Definitely recommend the clams on the half shell.
Loved the Mahi Mahi tacos with pineapple salsa and a side of Wasabi cream sauce of some sort! Definitely ordering that again!
Great road side food! Awesome ride the old HD up from West Islip for lunch with my bride.
Casual outdoor spot, fried clams are an old favorite , friendly staff
Wonderful place to enjoy local seafood and drinks outdoors. The waterfall is really pretty!
Great food out side with nature and a good cold IPA
Fun outdoor roadside stop for finger foods and beers. This place is rustic which adds to its simple atmosphere. Dining is on picnic tables. Food quality and taste is in the same level as Friday's, Applebee's, Chili's.
This place is exactly what you want if you're looking for a summer seafood shack. Beers on draft, hillside shade with brook to cool off air. Yes it's on the highway but it's perfect for road trip pit stop.
Been driving by there for years. The staff was very friendly, the lobster roll was amazing. The food came out quickly. I will be back.
It's great. It's exactly what you'd expect. I got the lobster roll, very fresh and tasty. Can honestly be a little difficult to pull in and out since it's right on 25A, so be careful.
Feels like a family picnic and the beer is nice and cold. It’s a bit of a challenge to enter and exit the parking spots; go early for lunch or dinner.
I've waiting 19 years for these clams! You knew summer started when the shack opened. We've since moved to San Diego and today came back to visit. It's been 19 years and worth the wait. Yum.
Had passed the Shack many times. We went there for lunch today. It was awesome. The girl who helped us was so sweet , the tables were clean and the food was yummy. Will def be back 👍🏻
OMG, first time and will not be last. Burger, chicken fingers, lobster roll, LI chowder. Everything was great! I used take a hike to Claudio's, no more!!!
My favorite roadside summer lunch spot. Fresh food and super friendly people. Parking is a little rough, and be careful slowing down on this road, it is busy and on a turn
This is the best summer place to eat. I have been here many times and I only get the Reuben flounder and clams. It is amazing the very best.
Immersed myself today in the luscious cheesy gooeyness of their Mac and Cheese.
It's a must go stop of heading east on 25a. Food is great, self service but it's an experience. Just go. Service is great just not table service.
Stopped in for a bite of dinner, and ordered the Fried Flounder Reuben. It was great! I also ordered sweet potato fries which were delicious. I’ll definitely come again.
Listen people. This place is expensive and located on a somewhat busy road and parking, well , it's a bit difficult when busy . Nothing on the menu can be considered affordable. With that being said the food is great.Wife had clam strips which were the best we have ever had. I had the fish reuben which was unique and delicious. The breading was crispy and the fish was light and cooked perfectly, and the roll was fresh. I don't mind paying $45 for lunch for two when the food is spot on. Ill be back.
Amazing!!!! Great lobster roll, clams and chicken. The staff is so nice and accommodating. Hats off to the chef!!! We had such a delicious lunch and the seating is beautiful with the waterfall.
The place is actually pretty cool. The food is reasonably priced the portions are very respectful. The girls working there are friendly. It's a family atmosphere with a wide age group. 2 thumbs up
On the pricy side but all the food is quality! We got a lobster roll and fish and chips with a few drinks. The drinks were high priced, even by ny standards. And the food was worth the cost. I saw them freshly battering the fish when i went back for more drinks. The lobster roll was super fresh. Cleanest tasting lobster i ever had. Everyone should give this place a try. Im glad i did.
You're eating on the side of the road but there's something fun about it. We obviously had the fried clam strips which are as amazing as they are every summer. But we also ordered the mahi tacos and they might've been the best fish tacos I've ever had. The prices have definitely gone up.
The Shack! This is a gem.... There are not too many of these outdoor eating establishments around any longer. The Fish and Chips, Fried Shrimp etc. are wonderful. The atmosphere is relaxing, and enjoyable. If you have never experienced the Shack, try it you will not be disappointed. Enjoy..
Great place to stop for a burger, a hot dog and clams, or a nice cold beer, even if they throw it at you. This place is a welcome part of the fabric that makes North Shore Long Island such a pleasure to travel. Thank you to all the great folks that make The Shack a Long Island tradition.
My husband and I went to The Shack on Friday afternoon for the first time and LOVED it! We brought our dog Captain and had a great experience. The food was tasty, great outdoor park benches to sit & enjoy our meal, and the service was great. Jane was so friendly and made us feel at home! They welcomed Captain and gave her a bowl of water to enjoy. Besides the picnic tables, you can also sit at high top barstools. My husband enjoyed his lobster roll and I loved my bacon cheese burgers! Plus they had free soda refills! We can't wait to go back!!
Great burger and fries, friendly staff. And awesome vibes! Theres waterfall feature which makes you feel like you’re somewhere else entirely than on the side of the road in long island.
Stopped by this place leaving the Vanderbilt Mansion. This place was great, I had a burger and fries. The fries were a little bit on the warm side, not the hot side. But otherwise, it was awesome. I'd recommend it to anyone passing by the area.
Stopped at The Shack for a quick bite before going to the local park, this place had a nice atmosphere next to the main road but still quiet enough for a calm lunch. My bro got chicken tender sliders for 12$ and I got chicken tender combo with fries for 14$ the food was fresh and hot and good quality. the fries alone would get 5/5 stars. They have a bathroom and enough spots in the lot to get one during lunchtime. Overall I'd give this place a visit if you're passing by or want a delicious bite for lunch.
Stumbled across The Shack today while road-tripping through Long Island and it was fantastic! It’s very cute and has great outdoor seating. Jen took my order and welcomed me warmly. The menu is mostly seafood which I don’t eat but I had the Cajun chicken burger with fries and coleslaw and that was perfect for a beautiful afternoon sitting outside. It’s definitely a casual spot. Would love to go back next time I am in town!
We visited the Vanderbilt Museum and Planetarium close by but the museum cafe closed early so we visited the Shack for a quick lunch before our 3pm planetarium show. The food was great and service was very quick. We enjoyed the catfish sandwich and the pairing of fish with fresh slaw and some sauerkraut was perfect. Parking was easy and the atmosphere was relaxing. They are open 7 days a week. Great spot for food if you are visiting the Vanderbilt Museum.
Love "The❤ Shack"! The staff are like family, the food is fresh and delicious and they are dog friendly. Holly (our cairn) gets her ice water before us, this is an outdoor establishment so watch the weather. From the day they open for business until the last day, you'll find us here on weekends. Treat yourself to a fresh lobster roll, or the juiciest burger around, you won't be sorry. Tiki Bar included! FYI-casual👍
Fun roadside destination. Great motorcycle destination. Food is not great, but it is pretty good. Nice covered outdoor tables.
It’s outdoors good fun, an umbrella willsave you from the heat. Good for what it is
Fun outdoor atmosphere, almost everything is fried, but delicious. Very expensive for what you get.
Great little local joint for a fast lunch and a good beer. Parking can be tough but it's worth stopping in.
Not fancy, but fun outdoor place to grab a quick bite. Very popular with locals. Tables are semi-roadside which adds to the charm of this location. No table service, but they cook orders relatively quickly, usually within 15 minutes.
Very nice place for dining outside on a nice day. The food was very good, but some items are a little pricey. Not over crowded when I made my visit there for lunch.
Called to see if open lady says we are always open weather permitting. To this lady when someone asks you if your open a simple yes or no is best because I have been by 3 times now and you weren't open even though Google said it was your business hours. Past experience great food and service though.
Nice taste of long island. Had fish tacos. All outside, no bugs, very casual. Park on side road, easier to get out.
Outside seating only. Great atmosphere if you don't mind the passing cars. The potions are small for the price, but the good food. I ordered cod and received a very small piece, not even enough for a sandwich. Servive, baked clames are amazing, and so are the cocktails. Sorry, but I don't recommend the Mac & Cheese.
Shack food is fabulous. The atmosphere is fun and friendly all around. Price is the only reason they didn't get 5 stars from me. I'd eat here more often (even despite the wait times at peak) if it wasn't so darn expensive. Tuna steak sandwich (really good), waffle fries (well seasoned) and a soft drink - $28. The food and ambience is awesome - the prices, not so much.
Convenient location right off 25a. Simple menu, great service. Only reason for 4 stars for this visit was because the chicken sandwich I had didn't feel fully cooked. Some spots were soft while others were hard. I don't usually have this issue, otherwise it would be 5 stars all the way. I love this seasonal spot when I'm in Northport.
Super casual spot to grab super casual seafood (I mean, it's a shack on the side of the road...). Food is good enough, but overpriced. Service is friendly. Parking is not always great and traffic comes wizzing by (again, a shack on the side of the road). Fish tacos were better than expected.
Staff was nice. Fried clam strips were excellent! New England clam chowder was more like potato soup with bits of clam and flavor left something to be desired but still good. Would def return and recommend.
The food was great as always...but the staff working there had little to desire....as though they reallly didnt want to be there or they were super tired. We were 2 people who showed up on a cooler night. We spent over $70. I would have hoped they would have appreciated us coming & giving them our business...but I think they could care less. The younger girl was actually sitting on the floor behind the counter & the other lady behind the counter was leaning on the counter eating food with her fingers. Certainly didn't give us a warm & fuzzy feeling.
My husband and I have been Shack fans for years; this is our second visit there this summer. We ordered a cold lobster roll, crab cakes, and fried clams. While still very good, I noticed the portion of lobster salad in the cold lobster roll was definitely smaller than last year's. The amount of whole lobster pieces was also less (most of it was ground up lobster). If you are as picky as I am w/lobster rolls (lol) it wasnt as satisfying as I expected. Crab cakes (2) were delicious, (perfectly seasoned and the right proportion of crab to bread crumbs), if a tad bit overdone. My husband's fried clams and fries were perfectly done and delicious w/crunchy coating and tender clams inside...also a smaller portion than last year. Cost: $70 Would we return? Yes, but it isn't our first choice for seafood as it has been in the past.
Food is ok but overpriced. One of the few places around where you can sit outside.
Good food. Fun outdoor setting. A bit over priced, but it's seafood.
The fun of this place is eating outside. You get the paper/plastic plates/utensils treatment and eat at picnic tables by the side of the road, which can be fine, but not at the upscale prices they charge. The food is OK, nothing to write home about.
Calamari needed a little salt & pepper, onion rings were greasy, Mac and cheese was good, mussels were empty shells and buffalo wings were good.
If you want some fresh clams you can get them here but they're the tiniest clams you've ever seen in your life. You decide if it's worth spending $20 for a dozen that you can fit in your mouth all at once if you chose to
The food was delicious, although the portion for what you pay for is questionable. There was a middle aged lady that worked the counter who had a rather unpleasant attitude about her. She had a very rude demeanor from my entire interaction with her. The rest of the staff were friendly and approachable.
Service was great. Have to love the atmosphere, but we were very disappointed in the food. Fish taco and hotdog were cold. Mac and cheese was very bland and watery. Catfish sandwich was very bland as well. The fries were good. For the price, we probably won't return.
OK, not great. A little overpriced for the quality of food. Fried clams weren't bad, but had too much breading, some were hard as a rock. Fries were hot, but didn't taste fresh, no seasoning. Outdoor seating is nice. Friendly staff.
Not sure on how to feel about this place. The food could be alot better for how expensive it is but it did come out quick which was nice. Finding parking can suck but the atmosphere is great. This place is probably more for having drinks and music than anything else. They are dog friendly from what I've been told.
Got the fish & chips, clearly fried in oil that wasn't hot enough as the fish was very oily.
Very expensive , the food is good but I got a $32 lobster roll and the whole thing was stuffed with lettuce, with some lobster lightly sprinkled on top. I was highly disappointed. I was literally eating buttered lettuce. Saw some other dishes and the portions looked big. So maybe skip the very expensive lobster roll and go for something else. Went back to try it again, got the shrimp Caesar salad. Not really impressed, maybe I’m just ordering the wrong things. Staff is pretty rude so I won’t be going back.
Great staff, undercooked calamari and sweet potato fries. Quality of food went down compare to 2 yeasts ago
Ok place they do not say that you dont get fries with the shrimp. just basic seafood way overpriced, not worth a trip.
Don’t order the tasteless overpriced lobster roll.
I order a grilled chicken salad, guess what I got? Lettuce and chicken. Well dear cook/owner, salad means combination of vegetables, otherwise I’d order Lettuce with Chicken, but I ordered Grilled Chicken Salad.
I want to like this very convenient roadside snack bar but the problem is the food isn’t very good. And it isn’t the sort of cuisine (burgers, lobster roll, etc) that is difficult to master. Compounding the issue, the prices are pretty high (relative to the food quality) .
This place is overpriced for what it is. lobster roll was small in quantity and was virtually tasteless which cost $30 and a can a Coors light was $7.
It should be a crime to call their catfish sandwich cajun. Lived in Louisiana for years and this sandwich is about as far as you can get from cajun. This was basically a piece of fried fish...there was little to no spice on it. Bland and frankly i don't even think it was catfish. The fries smelled fishy...we both got sick. Charging $52 for 2 NOT cajun catfish sandwiches, fries and a Corona is insane. Won't be returning here.
Wayyyyyyyyyyy over priced!!!!!!!!!! And the food is not that good!!! $21 for a grilled chicken sandwich w some fries. Calamari was over cooked and not fresh. Just horrible/overpriced experience. Don't bother.
Overpriced overcooked Restaurant Depot frozen food. I was there before you closed. I have lived here all my life. I am 60 years old and I remember when the food was fresh and good tasting and not overcooked frozen food.
I haven't been in a while. Flounder was horrible, other friend had a fish toco it was to the point of smelly , Gross, what a disappointing experience. If your going to charge high prices , then the food had better be fresh!! definitely not smelling like old fish!
I got a burger here and mussels here a while back, service is unfortunately not that good and slow, also all shellfish here is not as fresh as it used to, whoever runs it had to make their food lower quality and raise prices to stay in business, I get that but it’s not nice for the customer experience. My friend who had the mussels unfortunately got food poisoning after having them I don’t like to give business 1-star reviews because it’s not good for their business but I’m just being honest for this one.
The Shack looks like a fresh seafood spot, but don’t be fooled, it’s all frozen food straight off a Sysco truck. My fried shrimp were over-battered, barely cooked, and mostly breading. Six tiny pieces for $24. They pretend it’s fresh and made on-site, but it’s clearly frozen junk dropped in a fryer. Great atmosphere, terrible frozen food. Why take shortcuts when you have such a good clientele and abundant clientele.
I paid $80 for two lobster rolls, $40 each for what looked like a sample at a food festival.I blinked and thought the appetizer arrived early—turns out, that was the main dish. You’d expect something generous at that price, but these were tiny, with barely enough filling to justify half the cost. I’ve had appetizers with more substance. To those who might say “it’s about quality, not quantity I get that. But even the quality was just decent, not exceptional. When you’re charging premium prices, the food should reflect it in both flavor and portion. Unfortunately, it felt more like a case of cutting corners than offering a refined experience. Overall, it came off as cheap with their portions and value. Definitely not worth $40 a roll, and I left still hungry and disappointed.
