My wife and I really enjoyed eating here. Good food, great view, decent prices, and chilled water. I seriously loved the water. Most places serve water with ice which can create uncomfortable drinking experiences or require a straw. Not this place! They served ice cold water, without ice. The excellent qualities of chilled water without the ice! Best I can tell they run the water through a heat exchange device to cool the water to a perfect temperature. Or they have a big fridge and they fill pitchers and keep them in there until they are cold and ready to serve. We will come back when we visit this area again!
Had dinner there on 9.15.21 waiter was a delightful giantalman, walked me thu the menu, as it being my first time there. Food was beyond my expectations. Cheers to the chef. The charming General manager Checked on myself and my meal to make sure it was exactly up to par. The view of the bay at night waw in evey way breath taking. Suggestions get there early for a great view of the ocean. Does pack up fast. Over all rating 5+ stars. A must .
I sat by the bar with a front facing view of the ocean. The food was excellent. This resturant is a gem. Overall experience, A+
I was accidentally 30 minutes late because I incorrectly remembered my reservation time. They found a way to seat me and the service was great. Tasty food, good wine, and great views.
Romantic and intimate for Dinner! You dine overlooking Lovers Point beach, one of the most beautiful and romantic places to dine in California and the World! The restaurant is spacious and you can choose to dine at the bar, inside or their outside patio. Anywhere in the restaurant, you can see the beautiful Monterey Bay. Try to get a reservation during sunset. Good variety or dishes and drinks. My party ordered the San Dabs Almodine, Steak and Prawns Scampi, and the Korean BBQ, and it was all delicious! The salad appetizer and bread was fresh as well. Each table outside had heaters, so no guest gets cold. Service is great and courteous. Lot's of free parking in the evening. Hearing the waves crash on the beach below is so relaxing. After dinner, walking around lovers point and seeing Monterey bay ends a memorial dinner.
We loved this spot! We sat on the patio right over the water. The hot bread and butter was sooo good. We ordered fish and chips (which were just fine!) and the pesto pasta. The pesto pasta was absolutely the move. It could have fed 4 of us, so it’s easily shareable. I added veggies to it too, which I recommend! Our server, Dani, was wonderful too and had lots of recommendations for the area.
I am beyond greatful for all the staff that worked on 11/29/2020. I immediately felt welcomed and was treated like a Queen on my special day! You all made my birthday amazingly unforgettable. The service and the food was superb! I was surprised with a beautiful dessert that made feel extremely special. Once again thank you all for an amazing experience:) I will be returning back soon!
Wow! Didn't expect this! Food is a+ and beautiful views even if you dot inside. Friendly staff, so kind and helpful. The food is great. I rarely finish a meal and I devoured my cast iron airline chicken. Hubby had the tomahawk pork chop. Can't say enough. We each enjoyed an excellent glass of Big Sur Chardonnay. Go there
Was visiting PG for the weekend and found this place was walking distance from our B&B. I made a same day dinner reservation and luckily I did because they were on a wait when we walked in. The food was so good we ended up going back again the next night instead of trying another place. Must try: crab arancini, crab ravioli, & beef stroganaff pasta! Suppperrrrr delish. Views are stunning & staff was great.
They have a dinner special from 4 to 5:30 make sure to get there early if not you will missed the dinner special . We have to wait a little bit since it was a Weekend Holiday. The highlight of this weekend, we saw the lights of the Falcon Rocket 🚀that was send to space October 7, 2018. What timing 🤩🎇
Perfect place. Lights went out because of the winds. The waiter set up candlelight.
Great view of the bay at Lover's point on from the outdoor seating. Portions are bigger than you might expect so don't worry about under-ordering. The Stroganoff is delicious with strong and tasty mushrooms. Excellent service and value wether you are celebrating a special occasion or just grabbing a bite to eat.
That was an enjoyable dinner. The sea bass with wild mushroom and truffle sauce was excellent. The sea bass was moist and the citrus goes very well with it. Our server Bryan was very attentive, though it was quite busy. We got what we asked for. It was without doubt one of the best experience.
We enjoyed the heated patio over looking Lover's Point Beach and rocks. A seal was actively diving for dinner and putting on his own show. Being early bird dinners is a big advantage. My well wine was $3! And, it was decent. My husband's Grey Goose martini was made to perfection. We started with the very yummy Sunset Firecracker Shrimp. He had the Grilled Salmon Filet and I had Parmesan encrusted chicken. Our server Christine was a seasoned professional and took outstanding care of us. We highly recommend this restaurant. Ambiance is outstanding! Reservations highly recommended.
They let us sit by the window with a beautiful view of the ocean & lovers point beach below. The service was fast but not too fast, and when my boyfriend informed our server that it was my birthday he was super sweet & brought me one of their desserts, I think it was pecan mud pie and it was super rich and yummy. I ordered the shrimp & prawns and it was to die for. I also had the firecracker shrimp as a starter and this dish was not hot at all, but had good flavor and the shrimp was amazing. All in all it was a great experience and I would dine here again. I think the prices are fair for the location, food quality & quantity, & atmosphere.
I really enjoy the beach house and every time we go to Monterey or Pacific Grove we usually end up going there. It has good service and a beautiful view! The food is generally pretty good. It’s a little bit on the pricey side, but we did get wine and dessert. My friend got the French dip, and she said it was an amazing. We both thought the French bread in the beginning was outstanding! I had the sand dabs, which were a little bit to battery or oily for my taste. Other than that it was pretty good, but I was afraid I would get an upset stomach from the oil. They had a nice wine and cocktail selection and we both really enjoyed our desserts. I had the Keylime pie and she had the mud pie. The restaurant does get crowded and therefore it is kind of noisy, so if that bothers you, that might be something you would want to know ahead of time.
Where do I begin?!? This place is amazing!! Reservations are highly recommended. I made a reservation the day before, and asked for indoor seating by the window and OMG I was not disappointed!! They open at 4pm, so we reserved a 4:15pm dinner (super late lunch, actually). The Ajonjolí Appetizer "Firecracker Shrimp" or something like that was to die for... And I don't usually like shrimp! The sauce it was in reminded me of 1000 Island dressing, but with a kick! 🔥 The pork chop looked beautiful, but I had to add salt. It didn't taste seasoned at all. Next time I'm trying the meatloaf... I heard it's wrapped in bacon! 😳 The sirloin steak was PERFECT in size, temp, and most of all, TASTE!! Even the fries were tasty, crunchy, and HOT! They were really kind, attentive, and absolutely did not feel rushed at all! Our waiter was GREAT! So nice and helpful (see pic). It was our first time there, and it was an amazing experience. I'd give it more starts if possible! Definitely going back! 🥰🥰🥰
Beautiful location in Monterey. We had the scallop pot pie, which was very delicious . We originally were seated at the back with a view of the ocean. But unfortunately it is adjacent to a public park, and I could smell a strong stench of urine. They moved us to another table inside and it was great.
*** Make a reservation *** Great experience here and really had no complaints about any part of my evening. I was seated quickly and was able to take advantage of the early bird specials. Ordered a beer, shrimp appetizer (which was a ton of shrimp), and the salmon was good but the rice was the best part of entree. Definitely would recommend this location, particularly when everything is on discounted from 4-530
Warm atmosphere with great views of the sunset. Excellent cocktails and the bread is absolutely delicious! My first impression was that this was a tourist spot, but it’s definitely a great spot for locals and visitors alike. Highly recommend.
Amazing food and on the ocean what can you say...the views are unmatched. As someone who doesn't have access routinely to Sand Dabs we were a bit reluctant to try them but they were amazing and did not disappoint, would highly recommend. Each menu item that we tried including the poke bowl, sand abs, salmon and sea bass were stellar. If you have an opportunity and like Moscow mules I would definitely recommend the blood orange mule. All in all a great visit, one that will be repeated many times over in years to come.
My family loved it here! Got the French dip, fish and chips, and clam chowder, everything was good and reasonably priced. Lovely atmosphere, great service! Love the free fresh bread refills :)
Wow!! What an incredible experience! I wouldn't have changed a single thing! The manager, Axel, was extremely accommodating with my request to get seated way before my reservation time. Our waitress, Kristina, was very friendly and checked on us a bunch. I'm not sure of the busser's name but he was great, too. Not only was the service impeccable but the food was to die for! The view from our high-top patio table was breathtaking. The next time I am in the Pacific Grove area, I will definitely be enjoying a meal at Beach House Restaurant at Lovers Point again!
The service is good. We had calamari for appetizer it is really good we like the white sauce better than the salsa looking sauce cause it's really sour. The clam chowder is delish. Beach house seafood pasta is ok it's too salty for us. The beef stroganoff was good but the filet mignon is so good! Overall the food and service is commendable.
Great service and great food. The clam chowder was delicious and gluten free, and the cioppino was too (without the bread). They definitely didn’t skimp on the seafood in the cioppino either.
Lexi is unflappable! Makes great drinks, and didn't miss a beat when faces with a power outage. The best. Great place to hang out and enjoy.
Absolutely delicious! I got the Pan Roasted Sea Bass, which was incredible, and my wife got the Steak & Prawns Scampi. Even our daughter's fetuccine alfredo was really good, haha. Also just FYI, if you're local (living in a 939 zip code), they have a menu called the Locals Sunset Menu that has a paired-down list of things to choose from, but for a better price than the normal menu (I think it's only between 4:30pm and 5:30pm). My sister got the Grilled Salmon Filet, and her husband got the Rigatoni with Pesto Cream, both of which were awesome. Definitely recommend this restaurant!
Went for a birthday dinner, the service was excellent. Everything came out in a timely manner and was absolutely delicious. Definitely go with the seafood. My friend mentioned my birthday and they were kind enough to bring out a dessert. We got creative with the drink requests and asked for Espresso Martinis but with tequila, the bar tender absolutely nailed it.
This is a great local, neighbourhood restaurant. The food is delicious, the menu has something for everyone, and the prices are very reasonable (especially if you order off the early bird/locals menu). The servings are really generous. They have a small bar which serves great and reasonably priced cocktails, as well. Unpretentious and welcoming. Great service. We went with the extended family (7 of us) from 8 - 80 and everyone found something they wanted on the menu and we all were made to feel very welcome. And we didn't need to mortgage the house to pay the bill.
We enjoyed a wonderful dinner at The Beach House Restaurant at Lover’s Point. This was our first time visiting while it was still light outside, and the view of Lover’s Point was absolutely gorgeous. The hostess was warm and welcoming and quickly found us a table despite the restaurant being very busy. While the regular menu offers many tempting choices, we opted for the Locals Menu and appreciated that it is offered daily. We started with the Firecracker Shrimp—and it was so flavorful without being overly spicy. The House Side Salad was fresh and tasty, and the hot bread and butter were a very nice touch. I ordered the Calamari Steak with panko crumbs, wild rice blend, grilled squash, and lemon beurre blanc, which was excellent. My husband enjoyed the Grilled Chopped Steak, a half-pound of ground Wagyu topped with mushrooms, sautéed spinach, garlic mashed potatoes, and crispy onions; he also enjoyed his Bloody Mary. Since we were celebrating a special occasion, we finished with the Mud Pie featuring coffee ice cream, chocolate sauce, and whipped cream—also delicious. Our server, Rachel, was friendly, attentive, and clearly very well trained. In fact, everyone we encountered provided excellent customer service at this restaurant. Highly recommended and a great value, especially with the Locals Menu.
I have a new service dog for my neuro condition. He’s still learning so I’ve not had him indoor dining yet. We planned to sit on the patio but there were no spots left. The staff was so patient with us as it took a few minutes to settle him down. Service was great, our waiter was extremely responsive and the food outstanding! I highly recommend this place as if you’re looking for great food with outstanding customer service. 🤗
this was our second visit— so yummy as usual!! i already can’t wait to come back. stand-outs for me personally are the firecracker shrimp and the crab arancini. my husband literally said “whoa” when they brought out the shrimp lol.
Great food. High quality. My wife got asked for ID (she’s 35) which I found funny. I thought the waiter was joking but he wasn’t. Will take that as a compliment. I’m assuming he was just following protocol but was both funny and disappointing at the same time. Anyways food and service was amazing thank you!
I've recently dined here twice and took advantage of the locals menu being that I'm a local. Both times started with tasty Firecracker Shrimp served on a bed of multi color cabbage. The sauce (mayo based) is med spicy and delicious with a fork full of the cabbage and shrimp. Previously had the Sand Dabs Almondine, excellent! Panko crusted SDs were moist with an outer almond crunch. Served over wild rice pilaf, which I wasn't to wild about. Learned that I could sub fries or garlic mashed potatoes after the meal of course lol! Next time... This time I had Rigatoni with Pesto cream sauce (Heavy sauce) sun dried tomatoes & basil...delicious! I was treating my nephew and his newly minted fiance (that day). They split a bowl of clam chowder and the Mahi mahi entre, which they loved. To cap off the night (Kristy) our server brought us a comp choc brownie with drizzled caramel sauce! Again, delicious! Good service both times, great ambiance. Recommend!
Walking around, stopped in, immediately seated and did not feel weird in joggers and a baseball cap. Hostess and waitress extremely nice. Recommendation of halibut special was incredible and waitress swapped out a side with ease; airline chicken on salad was so tender and well seasoned. Really great we'll balanced drinks. All in all, great stop.
We looked through a ton of reviews at other dining places, but decided to try here after talking with a couple who really enjoyed their meal. We made reservations through Open table, with a request for a window seat to make our anniversary dinner extra special. When we arrived, a table near the window had been saved for us, with recognition of our special day. My husband had the recommended Sanddabs, which were perfectly done. I had the salmon with a special request to substitute the spinach for yellow squash and to put the sauce on the side. Both requests were handled nicely and still adapted to look nice. The grilled salmon was perfectly done, moist on the inside with a flavorful crust on the top. The sauce just added to what was already delicious. Service was friendly all around. Although it was busy, our wait time for dinner was reasonable, though it did take a bit longer to get our bill. To top the evening off, we were presented with a delicious tuxedo cake dressed with caramel on the side with tiny hearts in red. It seemed like lots of local people were dining here. Amazingly busy for a Wednesday evening. Highly recommend!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5/5 I had an amazing experience at Beach House Restaurant at Lovers Point! The location is absolutely stunning, with breathtaking ocean views that make the meal even more special. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, perfect for a relaxing lunch or a romantic dinner. The food was outstanding – fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The seafood dishes were perfectly cooked, and the flavors really stood out. The staff was attentive, friendly, and made sure everything was perfect from start to finish. Whether you’re visiting Pacific Grove or just looking for a memorable dining spot by the ocean, I highly recommend this place. I’ll definitely be coming back! 🌊🍷🍴
It's always a happy experience for me, 'coming home' to this area. I grew up in nearby Monterey, my Chinese family having come here by Chinese junk directly from China in the mid 1800s! I was here recently for the events that occur every May, celebrating the people of the Chinese fishing village (that stood where the Hopkins Marine Station and Monterey Bay Aquarium now stand) at that time, where my great-great-grandfather came and raised his family, and they theirs, some who still live here. Sand dabs have always been a family favorite for generations, so of course I had to have some here at the Beach House!! They were delectable; perfectly cooked, tender, tasty with almonds and a wonderful sauce of lemon beurre blanc, The Pacific Mahi Mahi was also delicious, with the same sauce, and crab risotto. We had shared an appetizer of calamari before dinner...always a must and done so well here at the Beach House! The service was great! We had arrived to our hotel in the area shortly before dinner time and with no reservation for dinner, we were 'fit in' with a mere few moments wait after we arrived at the Beach House. I can't remember our server's name, but she was very friendly and attentive. The views are wonderful, the vibe here is warm and welcoming, the food is delicious! If you're in the area, stop by the Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History for some very interesting information about this beautiful area.
Lily was our server and were lucky to get a nice table on the patio over looking the water. We started off with an Old Fashion and glass of wine. Both reasonably priced. We ordered the bowl of clam chowder to share. My wife had the roasted beet salad and I told Lily to either bring me the salmon or the lamb chops, her choice. I wasn’t disappointed with the salmon. Nice atmosphere and good conversation with Lily discussing summer travels. Seemed like more locals than tourists. Would return.
This was our first dinner stop on our quick getaway to the Monterey area and we had a great experience here! All of the staff there were friendly and our server was highly attentive in checking on us regularly. We opted to sit outside and enjoyed the breeze. We started off with the broiled oysters which were fresh and well-seasoned. We both ordered the scallops pot pie for dinner and thought it was delicious. It was more of a scallop chowder with the addition of a flakey puff pastry crust but very flavorful. Overall, I will definitely eat here again to try other dishes when we return to Lovers Point.
Came here for the 4.6 rating.... Beach House Restaurant did not disappoint from the moment we sat down. Came here with a party of 4. We were seated on the patio with a perfect view of the ocean. Patio area is well protected with Plexi glass and heat lamps. The Cesar salad was on point and portion of food was just right. Our main course meals were to everyone's liking. Our server Kristina with a K! She accommodated our meals to our likening. By adding items to the selection outside the menu. Which was very much appreciated. Meal for four of us was just over $200.00 . Which is very fair for today's cost of eating out. If your looking for a great meal! Great service, great atmosphere ask for Kristina!
We had a wonderful evening at the restaurant. We have traveled across some places in the US and we FINALLY found the food that was worth the price. We live in Europe, so we know what high quality food should taste like. The food here was tasty, full of flavor, the view in the restaurant was amazing and the service was impeccable. The mains were AMAZING. I had a steak and it was juicy and flavorful, my husband’s halibut was great as well. Loved our dinner. A big special thank you goes to Dani, who made our day. You did take care we felt taken care of on the evening.Thank you so much 🙏🏻
My husband and I had a wonderful time celebrating our wedding anniversary here with its gorgeous views of Monterey Bay as well as enjoying a delicious meal of fresh Sand Dabs served over wild rice and blue lake green beans that we ordered with iced tea, which was also flavorful. We were happily treated to a surprise treat for dessert from our wonderful waitress, Christine, of a delicious freshly prepared apple cobbler dessert that was drizzled with caramel sauce, topped off with whip cream! It tasted like a favorite family recipe that had been passed down from one generation to another. It was quite delicious! We had quite a memorable evening! We will return to try other options and enjoy the view and the great service as well!
I ordered off the sunset menu today and the salmon was delicious but I ordered the cheesecake and it was horrible I remember ordering it a few months ago the blue ribbon cheesecake and this one was nothing like it. It was a chocolate toffee cheesecake and it tasted sour and the crush had no chocolate flavor!! Bring the classic one back
We have eaten at the Beach House a few times. It's in walking distance of the hotel we stay in. We had a long Island iced tea & a hendrix gin & tonic. The cocktails were average. The Crab Arancini was amazing & the charred lemon put it over the top. The Beach House salad was also fantastic. The flavors and textures are right up our ally making it a favorite. We also had the fish & chips. We were disappointed that they weren't as good as the salad & starter. Especially for $19. It came with 4 small strips that were slightly tough on top of average shoestring fries. The Monarch pub up the street has fantastic fish & chips for a little less. I will now rave about their customer service. Our server, Rachel was fantastic. As were Shay & Uriel. When we were seated it was very warm, uncomfortably so. Rachel was able to reseat us near 2 windows at our request. I lost my phone while there. Shay & Uriel were instrumental in finding it & returning it to me. They were all so wonderful!
We had a lovely dinner with a gorgeous view of Monterey Bay. It had been 20 years ago when it was The Bath House. The renovation added a lot of room with beautiful views, but gone are waiters and linen tablecloths. We had the swordfish special and the mahi mahi Oscar. Both were delicious. The Brussel sprouts appetizer was fabulous too!
Delicious food...brussel sprouts, scampi, chicken, clam chowder, mashed potatoes all very good. Unfortunately, I ordered my steak well done and it was very pink😞. Had an awesome waiter, Bryan!! Made our anniversary night fun otherwise we would have been disappointed with the steak & wait. Beautiful location! The check in is a little hectic even with a reservation but they did the best they could to seat us promptly. Would go back😊
Extremely and conveniently located from our motel, cozy, modern and clean. The clam chowder was amazing. Genuinely wished I had just gotten a bowl of that! I had the sea bass and my husband got the pesto pasta with shrimp. We finished off with a mud pie. Everything was good, but I may just not have liked the sea bass as a personal thing. Waiters were friendly and attentive. We will be back for more chowder!
We've been wanting to try the Beach House Restaurant for a while now and finally got the chance. We had a late dinner, around 730pm. We made reservations and were seated quickly. The hostess seemed a bit distracted, but not sure why since there were only a few people waiting. She also disinfected the menus while we waited. We were seated at a window seat. Very nice ambience. It was pretty raucous in there, but not overwhelming. Service was a bit slow, but the place was at capacity, so understandable. We started dinner with a bottle of Smith and Hook Cab and a couple of appetizers: Fried Calamari and Firecracker Shrimp. Both were delicious, especially the Firecracker Shrimp. Portions were generous. Dinner also comes with hot, fresh bread and butter, but they forgot to bring that to us until our appetizers were almost gone. As a result of the large appetizer portions, we decided to split an entree: Scallops Pot Pie. The Scallops Pot Pie was really good. It came in a bowl with a (very) delicate and airy puff pastry to the side. The bowl included quite a few Scallops, mushrooms, onions, peas and carrots in a white sauce. The puff pastry had a bit of sweetness which paired well with the meal. We opted to share a dessert and chose the classic cheesecake with caramel sauce. I wasn't too fond of the cheesecake as it was more of a custard than traditional cheesecake. At the end, our check came but was for the wrong table. We waited while that was sorted out. Nice place to eat with good food and views of the bay. Since portions are generous, plan accordingly!
We love the service and the setting here, it's great. I had the ribeye special, the sauce was pretty heavy for my taste and there was a lot of fat left on the steak. I felt like the green beans and carrots that were served on the side could have benefited from seasoning and the potatoes seasoned potatoes could have been cooked more. The 4 cheese ravioli was tasty. The burrata salad was delicious and had a really large portion. My dad enjoyed his fish and chips, my mom liked her Mahi Mahi. The crab ravioli was good. The mushroom risotto that is served with the fillet mignon was a bit too cheesy for our preference.
We brought a friends that were moving to town, we thought the Beach House would be a great welcome. Kristina, our server, was friendly with great suggestions. We had clam chowder, and my wife split the Beach Salad filled with fruit, lettuce and pecan halves. Dinners ordered were Sand Dabs, Salmon, Calamari Steak & Pasta with Chicken. We each enjoyed our meals, well presented and perfectly prepared i.e. the fish was cooked perfectly, moist, and flavor-filled. The wine selection was nice. The wine glasses? Not bad glasses just too small for red wine. We will visit the Beach House often! Reservations recommended. UPDATE: With 3 visits since the review 3 out of 4 visits the food was consistent. On our recent visit I had sand dabs which were delicious, the salmon and sea bass were both delicious. For dessert we had key lime pie which had a good, tangy taste however the crust was soggy. The NY style cheesecake was thick, dense and tasty as it should be.
Great food, ask for the local menu! Service was really bad (at least our waitress was absolutely unfriendly). It tends to get really busy and a bit noisy.
This restaurant was very esthetically pleasing. As soon as I drove up I knew I wanted to try it. I made a reservation and specified that I wanted a view (after all it was a long drive to get here). Got seated fairly quickly, however, I did not get much of a view that I requested. I noticed a table become available that had a view and politely asked if we could switch. We still did not have drinks so I did not see any issue with it, my server said he had to check if there was a reservation. He comes back and tells us there was a reservation at 7:30 so we couldn’t get our view even though we also had a reservation. We ordered the filet mignon and the beef stroganoff. The filet mignon was good but not great and the beef stroganoff was really good. Our drinks were consistently Ok (could use some improvement). Over all it was an ok experience which is why I gave it 3 stars.
Not too impress with this place. The food is average and pricey. We ordered Sand Dabs Almondine and Prime Rib French Dip. I didn't like the way they cooked the fish, too soft and too much oil. The dip is almost no taste. However, I like the clam chowder and fried calamari. The service is also average.
My husband and I came to celebrate our anniversary weekend and we were excited to enjoy seafood by the water. The staff are awesome and super friendly! The cocktails were made perfectly. Unfortunately my dish was not as expected. I ordered Pan-Roasted Black Cod With soft polenta, broccolini, mushrooms and champagne-truffle sauce. It didn’t look nor taste like Black Cod as I k ow it and I couldn’t eat it. They were very nice about it. My husband ordered the special which was Pacific Swordfish. There was too much sauce on the swordfish and it drowned the fish. Our appetizers were great, a generous portion of fresh Firecracker Shrimp and a Fire-Roasted Tomato Caprese salad with burrata mozzarella (very creamy) and the pesto with balsamic glaze and olive oil were excellent. It is a relaxed fun atmosphere and many people were there celebrating birthdays.
Ate here once or twice before and everything was fine. But on the most recent visit, everything sucked. And not saying it's the waitress's fault, but two days after I ate here, there were unauthorized charges on my card.
The location of this restaurant is magic. But that's where it ends. The interior is outdated ( which could be alright as it's a historic place) but it's dirty and broken as well. I hurt myself on their banquet seat as it slid out when I sat down. Our service was very slow, she forgot drinks and we had to ask for menus and water refills. They were out of menu items and the food that we had was just smothered in sauce but not very tasty. So come here for the views but don't have high expectations on the food or service.
As a local, I’ve been to this restaurant a few times. I don’t recall having as many issues as the evening I went. My mom, dad, and I hadn’t gone out in a while to just wind down, have a drink, and enjoy a nice view. Well, once we entered we were greeted and were given the option of choosing a few seats even though they werent really ones we wanted. They said due to reservations there wasnt many tables available even though it looked like plenty options were open at that time on Thurs evening. I didn’t get much of a view which was sad. Sat down and was immediately greeted by a kind waitress who seemed in good spirits. We placed our order, things were going smooth but then slowly started to change. Dad and I ordered Mai Tais which we eventually got but it had so much grenadine in it which isn’t a normal ingredient. It sat at the bottom and once mixed it tasted extremely like juice which made it to sweet to drink. Waited a bit before we saw our waitress again so I could tell her that, that drink will make me sick. When she returned she was kind enough to give me a sample of a wine I was considering before I purchase an entire glass incase I wasn’t a fan. My dad just added an extra rum shot and he was able to drink his. By this time it was pretty watered down already Anyway, got our appetizers which took some time, firecracker shrimp has always good. Calamari was ok. It took forever for our dinner to arrive. When we finally got it, I asked for Parmesan which I never saw. My seafood pasta was probably the worst I’ve had in all the places we’ve dined in the Monterey County. It was watered down sauce, scallops had no sear looked completely boiled and was over cooked and dry, shrimp was extremely over cooked and dry, the choice of noodles just didn’t make sense with that dish either as it was extremely thick. Very disappointing as prices are high and quality and service certainly didn’t match it. We never saw our waitress during dinner, it would have been nice if I could share with her how horrible my meal was. Instead she came back again what felt like forever and asked if we wanted and dessert and we said no. By this time not happy but she seemed in a hurry so we didn’t get the chance. Unfortunately, my mom decided to order my brothers to go meal which she forgot to do. At that point my dad and I thought we probably shouldn’t because of how long things have taken. Preparing to be there a long time we decided to order another drink while we wait. The wait wasn’t as long as our dinner. So that’s was fine. Came home and that evening my throat swelled up probably because I normally have scallops that are seared and not just boiled. Over all experience was disappointing. I don’t think blaming the bush busyness of the restaurant should take away from someone’s dinner as the location is prime and I am sure they remain busy most days.
Service was decent, everything else not so much. Don’t be deceived by the picture, the meatloaf was a total flop. The bacon wrapped around the meatloaf was cold and had a soggy consistency. Judging by the bacon color it appeared it had been cooked long ago. The meatloaf had no flavor; it was like eating a meat brick. The portion size for the other items were small for the price. We think across the board most of our food was pretty bland. Very disappointing. Drinks were okay.
We have given the Beach House 5 stars in the past; and we have recommended it to many friends, and also to our guests at our rental in Pacific Grove. No more. We had reservations as always, but the hostess was not very accommodating, and our choices were either wait an hour or accept seating next to a very loud group. After sitting, it took more than 15 minutes to receive any attention, and then we ordered - and then some bread. It took nearly 80 minutes to receive our meals. I had the surf and turf. Which consisted of a small piece of meat and 2 small shrimps. The meat was so tough, I could not actually cut it with the steak knife they gave me. I showed this to the waitress - who offered to get a sharper knife! I cut off a small piece - which was tough as horse meat. I was offered bacon wrapped meat loaf, which I had numerous times in the past. But this time it was basically loose hamburger with bacon - some of which was hard, some of which was uncooked. The house salad, $7, was microscopic; basically $0.10 of lettuce with tiny tiny bits of carrot. The wife had a diet Pepsi - $4 and - no - refills offered in the nearly 2 hours we were there. The hostess spent most of her time hanging out away from her area talking with our "waitress". We are done - too many other great places in town.
Servers were very friendly and mostly attentive. It's the food that's a problem. Ordered the Filet Mignon beef stroganoff and the meat was Definitely not filet mignon. Over half the pieces had bristle. Other pieces were chewy. Noodles were under cooked and flavor was average. Bread was crunchy with no flavor.
I made a reservation 2 weeks ahead for a special occasion. I requested a nice window table. When we arrived we were shown to one of the most undesirable tables. The food was ok and the server quite good, but it was such a disappointment. I asked for a manager before sitting and explained my very early and specific request. His only answer was “we consider requests but do not always honor them.” NEVER TRUST THIS PKACE!
I wanted to share feedback about our visit last night for my daughter’s 18th birthday. I had been to your restaurant a few weeks ago with friends and had such a great experience that I decided to bring my family to celebrate this special occasion with you. Unfortunately, this visit did not meet the expectations set by my first experience. • We had an 8:15 PM reservation but were not seated until 8:40 PM. • We were a party of 17, but were seated separately. We had no idea this would be the case, and it made the celebration feel less connected. • When we received our menus, our server mentioned that we were given “local menus” and implied that they typically aren’t given to parties of 10+, but would “let us have it this time.” I found this comment unnecessary and a bit off-putting. • We also wanted a drink, and our server repeatedly said the bar was closed but then added, “let me ask.” This created unnecessary confusion. • Some of our food was not prepared correctly—several pieces of chicken were still red inside, and our steak was overcooked despite requesting medium rare. Given it was near closing time, it felt as though the kitchen may have been rushing. • Overall, the service felt rushed, which took away from the celebratory atmosphere I was hoping for. I do appreciate that our server cut and served our birthday cake, and we offered the leftover cake to the staff. That was a nice moment in an otherwise disappointing evening. I’m sharing this feedback because I truly wanted this dinner to be a memorable celebration for my daughter, and I know your restaurant can offer a much better experience than what we received last night. I hope this helps you address these issues for future guests.
Absolutely the best place I've been to in Pacific Grove by far. Everything about the restaurant was perfect. The location is perfect, right by the amazing Lover's Point park. There's great seating that lets you look over the ocean but the inside of the restaurant was also beautiful. Service was the best I've ever had, with a very attentive and caring waiter. He was treating everyone like family and making the experience wonderful. An error was made on my girlfriend's order and the waiter let her know about it as soon as he set the plate down. She had wanted a Rotini with pesto, sundried tomatoes and parmesan. She wanted to add salmon to it (which costs extra) but an error was made that added salmon and shrimp. The waiter was super apologetic and charged it, despite being a much more expensive entree, as being a regular with added shrimp (salmon would've cost more). The service was just beyond words I mean the guy was so sorry that he didn't bring me ketchup immediately. Out of this world. I'd eat here every night if I could. Edit 9/24: I had been eagerly excited to go back to Beach House after the great experience that I had before. What I had was far different. I've had to change my review from 5 stars to 1 based on how it went tonight. Things started well when we got the calamari, but things went downhill from there. Despite being seated before people we had to ask for bread because we were never given any, while other tables had. Then I got my sirloin and prawns and it was overcooked. I asked for medium rare and the inside was hardly pink. I brought the waitress over, Rachel, and despite politely stating it was overcooked, she wanted to defend that it was medium rare. She took the steak back though and suggested to write it in as rare because she felt the steak was medium rare. At this point I was pretty upset over the defensiveness of the waitress and had lost my appetite so I brought a manager over. We explained our situation, the bread and the steak and just generally feeling like we were being mistreated (like my review of Fishwife) and the manager said he'd check on stuff and take care of it. The manager himself even seemed dismissive. We eventually got back our sirloin and it was clearly rare. We got a couple more check in's from Rachel but ultimately our appetite had been ruined from the unpleasantness. We paid our check, and didn't got compensated for any of our meal by the manager. We didn't expect to but it would've been appreciated. All in all we didn't receive any apologies, and the entire experience was sickening. The hardest part about this review change was how stark of a difference our experiences were. Our first visit here was phenomenal with a compassionate waiter who was apologetic over a mistake. We were treated very well and it had been the highlight of our vacation. The experience we had tonight was the complete opposite and if I come back to Pacific Grove I'm not sure I'd come back to Beach House. It's a real shame, but tonight was inexcusable.
We arrived at the establishment to eat dinner and we told the hostess we wanted to sit at the bar. The bar was full, so we told we the hostess we would sit at a table. She snapped at us and said, 'Will you be ordering food?" We said yes. She sat us at a table with menus and a wine list. We sat there for fifteen minutes and not one person came to our table. At that point we decided to leave and we will never be back. This was our first time and last time coming here.
The firecracker shrimp appetizer was good, dinner was a completely different take. It took nearly 40 minutes to get our dinner after we ordered. The wedge salad was drowning in dressing, the crab arancini rice felt undercooked and the citrus remoulade tasted like thousand island dressing, the tomahawk pork chop was very, very dry - the only good thing were the mashed potatoes it was sitting on. Waiter was nice and smiley but didn’t check on us at all - we flagged him down when we were done and wanted to leave - I told him how terrible the arancini was and showed him that I did not finish it after the first small bite and he just smiled and said oh. He gave us a full bill and I asked to have at least the arancini taken off the bill. We were disappointed overall - too bad because it’s a prime location to enjoy a great meal.
