Was there with an old friend we ordered drinks and dinner, the price was worth every penny the food was amazing the drinks were perfect and I mean perfect! I told the man behind the bar I wanted something sweet but strong he made me a long island iced tea legit best one I've had! Sweet enough to drink it with food but strong enough that I ubered home! If your looking for drinks and food the pub on the right hand side is going to be your best friend but if you want a quiet home town diner feel try the separated diner type part right out front. Great food and friendly staff. Seriously one of the biggest and best garbage plates you can get in Rochester - seriously!!! That thing has gotta way like 5lbs at least. I love the tangy mac salad. Onion rings are made in house fresh daily and are some of the best rings ever. Some may say its pricey but I say you pay for what you get - an amazing burger full of tradition and fresh ingredients.

We were just looking for a quick bite that was NOT fast food chain like, and this did the trick. Comparable to a Tom Wahls or Bill Gray's as far as type of food, but still unique. My son got a side of their BBQ sauce for his sandwich, and that was definitely yummy and unique.

A must visit when in Rochester! The Garbage plate is a must have! I enjoyed mine with white hots and everything on it. Love the food here, workers are all very friendly. Food is delicious and usually pretty quick! The milkshakes are great and the bar has a great selection as well, prices are reasonable too! If you havent been here yet, your missing out! I always look forward to my visits to this gem, great food, great drinks, great company! Can't wait to visit next time we're in town!

My family and I frequent the Pub and we always have a great experience. Last night was no exception (other than the completely oblivious Tesla owner who's alarm kept going off every 5 minutes obviously outside of anyone's control 🤣) I'd like to spotlight one of your incredible employees. I'm so upset I can't remember their name, as they've served us before and are always so wonderful. Curly blonde hair, kind and radiates curiosity and humility. My husband and I were watching the fireworks on the patio while our kids played over by the tree. A child similar in age to my kids approached them for help as they were lost and had no phone. The kids brought them over to the Patio. Without hesitation our server overheard the situation and jumped in offering their phone so they could call their parent/guardian. After overhearing an intense conversation with the child and their father, this server sensed their distress and offered to walk with them to the intersection where their parent told them to go. I walked in to the restaurant a bit later to use the restroom and overheard the other staff members concerned and discussing the whereabouts of their team member. Genuine concern and understanding after they learned the situation. The fact that this server felt comfortable enough to just up and help a patron speaks to not only her character, but this establishments leadership shadow and this incredible team. Tonight my children learned a lesson in kindness and humanity through the actions of this server, and my heart is full 💓 Thank you again and keep shining bright y'all!!

We stopped by The Penfield Pub for the Bills game, and enjoyed some wings and a couple pitchers of beer. The bartender was friendly, the place looked, and felt very clean, and the wings were very good. This will be a nice addition to our football watching rotation.

Wonderful little pub! The plates we got were amazing and huge. The workers were nice and attentive to us as soon as we walked inside. Everything was clean and as soon as another table left the workers were cleaning it up. A nice place for a quick lunch and a drink.

At some point it was an issue with the food on one of my orders for me and the kids on my second visit…. Yup it was Amazing the first time I had them, however it was late in the evening everyone was exhausted and they had a few call offs . The owner did track me down to apologize and he stood by his Food. From the first visit I Absolutely stand behind this local Buisness. We are not all perfect and have our faults. He was very kind and made a point to say they would do right next time. I declined the offer of a free meal because they deserve to get paid for everything they do. I was a little exhausted myself and ready to eat so I was in my feelings a little bit. However they did really well the next time and will continue to be amazing!!!! Try them out I deleted my original Post because Everyone deserves a Second chance and they passed with flying colors. Thanks again to all of the staff and manager for tracking me down that really meant the world to me. 💕💕💕

One of the best things about our 2-3 trips to upstate New York every year is we get to dine at Don's Original! I could eat there everyday. I wish they had one in dallas! Katie's soups are off the chart delicious, and Alisha and all the other servers are super friendly and excellent at what they do! Don and Karen take great care of their restaurants and their staff and it shows! Can't wait to see you guys again this summer! :-) Katie, you totally killed it with the Manhattan clam chowder this Christmas! You're totally my favorite! :-)

We went on a Friday night and sat at the bar; I ordered chicken wings- the honey sriracha is not too hot and has great flavor. Their blue cheese is awesome! Also got a few drinks and service was nice and quick for a busy Friday night, bartender was great (Mike). Looking forward to returning.

A friend of mine loves French Onion Soup and we were told this was the best place to come to get that. The bartender was currently the only server (we got there early) and he was great, especially considering how particular my friend is about EVERYTHING. She had the soup. I had a Cobb salad. Great place, my husband took me here for a date. It was really nice, the Don's Big Plate was delicious, and we got fried pickles. Then we hopped over to the bar for a drink. Bartender was very nice and attentive.

Recommended by a local for a good "Garbage Plate" dish (a local staple), and Don's did not disappoint. The chili sauce was a perfect topping! Service was excellent, as was the food and adult beverages. This place is a treasure.

A great place to watch football on Sunday, or for a good meal. The chicken wings were delicious. They were cooked perfectly, not too much sauce and they were good size, not the little ones some places sometimes serve. We were a big group, but our server was great. I will definitely return.

As a Cincinnati girl, I miss my chili, that’s actually how we found this place, I have gone back to order the chili spaghetti 5 times now! We went here today because they did a fundraiser with the Penfield Girls Swim team. This location is always helping out in this way. I have been here for fund raising breakfasts as well… Today’s fund raiser was Big Plates (garbage plates). They were donating 3 dollars for every plate sold today. For those of you have not been here it’s converted over from a Dons Original / Pub combo and set up the same. In one door is counter service similar to Dons Bill Grays etc. and in the other door is a pub style bar type area. I have not been to the bar area but I’d stop in if I was in the area. And I think I saw a sign that said beer and a burger 10 bucks M-F 12-3. The details maybe off so don’t quote me but that would be a good place to meet a buddy for lunch. The plates were very good. The meat sauce will make or break a plate and theirs is very very good. The burger patties are not the tiny patties you get at some places. They were large and good quality. I always cover my mac salad with meat sauce so I can only comment the combo was great. Fries and home fries were as expected. We took the plates home and I split one with my daughter. We were both full. If I ate the whole thing myself I’d have been on the couch. My wife and daughter got one each. My wife has yet to eat hers but my daughter ate 1.5 burgers and about half the rest of the plate. All that swimming makes her hungry! I look forward to a beer and burger someday and I’d return for a really good plate for sure!

Came with my in-laws. Food was alright and employees were nice. Most major complaint was my SIl ordered a bacon cheeseburger with no tomato, add mayo. She got a regular burger with tomato and no mayo and we had to ask that it be fixed on receipt but waitress didn't argue and brought over some mayo on the side so not a big deal.

I have ordered twice from this place for about two months. The food has been fresh and delicious. I have gotten fish fry, mozzarella sticks and recently tried their Cajun chicken quesadillas and it was delicious. The second time when I came in to pick up my order and the cashier that cashed me out wasn't too friendly and when I said thank you to her she didn't say anything back to me and even after that I said have a nice day and still nothing. That's not good customer service.

The Guinness pot roast with real mashed potatoes was awesome. There is a veggie hummus wrap and garden burger for vegetarians. The Guinness was stellar, the service friendly and prompt. Nice Pub!

We were put on a waitlist for a table. We sat at the bar while we waited and were never seated at a table. Finally gave up and ordered food at the bar. The bartender wasn't very friendly but the food was good.

I usually love coming to this place and the food is always really good, but recently I sat at the bar on a Saturday night and did not have a good experience. The bartender was never around, and when he was he was a total jerk. Hard to order from a bartender who hates customers.

The food is decent/good. Atmosphere is pretty standard for a pub/bar and grill. The disappointing part was we had a large party, we called ahead to give notice that we wanted to come eat there. They gave us a hard time about if they could accommodate us, asked us if we were going to order drinks, then said they would have to speak to the manager and call us back. They called back shortly and said they would take us. They weren't busy when we got there, it took 15 minutes for our drink order to be taken, 45 minutes minimum to get our food. Several orders came out wrong/incomplete. Then at the end, we found out they couldn't split the bill amongst us and we had to do that ourselves. We were there 2.5 hours, to be hassled about giving them our business, getting seated without drinks, having half of the food orders messed up, and screwing around with the bill, to find out that not only did they assign one waiter for a party of 11, but they assigned us the newest server. The waitress did a good job for being new, but she never should have been assigned to such a large party alone. It was our annual tradition to come here as Don's Original, but we'll likely be finding another venue for the coming years.

We did take out for two burgers with fries on one and onion rings on the second. Honestly, the food we decent but nothing special. But the price for 2 burgers was nearly $35. No drinks....no extras. While if I was sitting in the restaurant and maybe a couple sodas that is ok. But for just decent and that price I won't probably be going back any time soon.

Bought hamburger on hard roll with onions and hot sauce and steak fries. This was greasiest hamburger I ever had. As soon as I picked it up to take a bite, grease poured out onto table, amazingly missing shirt. They need to siphon off the grease from the hot sauce. The steak fries were under done and still slightly raw. That sums up my First and last visit.

Surprised at the good ratings for this establishment in a city famous for garbage plates. Mac salad was prepackaged pre made like you would in gas station cooler, not homemade. Fries are never cooked enough. Burgers are ok but smaller compaired to other local burger chains. Also put your food tray on the counter at the register. So people talk and pass money over the in process trays awaiting remaining missing items. Kinda gross to me and makes reception area odd to navigate. Should designate an order pick up area.

Our waitress was lovely and the wait time wasn’t too long. However, I ordered the boneless wings because she said they came with 12, but the basket only had about 8 in it. They were also very dry and not seasoned, and the sauces were no help. Pretty disappointing for a $12 dish but I didn’t want to complain.

Been going to Don’s for 10+ years. This meal left A LOT to be desired. The Reuben had a pathetic amount of meat on it. Like, a shockingly little amount considering the $15 price tags. On top of that, the onion rings were so under cooked they were crunchy. Oh, and those were an up charge.

I used to go to Don's multiple times a month, and was there enough to be friendly with the owners. Now that I don't live in the area, I haven't been in a couple years. The pub area looks pretty much the same, although the tables are nicer than they used to be. It was very clean. The food, however, has gone WAY down hill. I'm embarrassed that I brought a friend who had never been. I ordered a burger because in the past the burgers in the pub were always a half pound, and nice and thick. They were well worth the price. Not anymore, apparently. The burger I received was thinner than a McDonald's hamburger! It cost me $14.95 for a burger that was paper thin! I appreciated that I could get a gluten-free bun which tastwd fine, but the burger was not good. My friend ordered a turkey panini and there was 2 slices of deli turkey on it (no exaggeration). Her sandwich was so thin. I was so embarrassed that I had raved about the food before we arrived. Her sandwich cost about the same as my burger. I know times are tight for everyone, but Don's, you need to do better! $14.95 for a burger that should be sold on your fast food side for a fraction of what I paid is ridiculous, and frankly is a complete rip-off. $3.95 for an iced tea also seems a bit steep, but I'm assuming it's free refills (I didn't get any so I'm not sure). Friendly staff, clean surroundings, but completely over-priced. I won't be returning on my next visit which is sad bc Don's has been a family favorite for many years. I'm still blown away at the price I paid for such a thin burger.

Just moving to Penfield, not impressed, ordered a lemonade cocktail and had to ask if anyone there was alcohol in it, ordered another and still didn’t feel anything. The boneless wings were good but better if the celery and the carrots were off to the side not in the bottom covered in sauce. Most likely will not come back

Worst "beer battered" fish fry ever. Tasted like frozen pre-made fish. So disappointing 😞 fries were terrible & soggy. Tartar sauce was good. Cole slaw was good. My picture makes it look so much better than it tastes.

Ordered take out. Arrived a few minutes early, added onion rings to order. $51. Realized they only charged for 1 kids meal. Charged me $12 more then I got to wait while my food got cold and they cooked the 2nd kids meal. Then cook wasn't listening and they only made 1 of my two original adult sandwiches, got to wait even longer. Get home, was shorted onion rings. Called, asked how they could make it right as I was not going back tonight, was offered to be refunded for the onion rings. Welcome to customer service in 2023. $63 for 1 soggy Penfield special and 1 fresh Penfield special, 2 cold kids meals and no onion rings...the fries were all soggy too...I do regret hanging up on the girl after I was offered a refund for just the onion rings but at that point I had had enough, I realize it wasn't her fault, but someone during the hold time instructed her how to make this all right, and it was less than acceptable. We will not be back.

Placed an online order for pick up. Went to pick it up and it took them 20 minutes before giving me the food. Took it home and it was soggy as hell!! The fries, bread everything was under cooked and super super soggy. Never called to complain cause my husband and I were just so hungry. But figured to post an online comment about this place. Yeahhhh dont think we will order again from here!!

Food took forever and Hamburg was awful

I eagerly arrived here to eat dinner and was profiled as a potential criminal and asked to leave before I could enter for apparently exploring the public park in the rear of the lot. The manager was also so polite as to judge me for the car I drive during our brief conversation. It’s a shame they lost my business but I simply can’t patronize a business that can’t respect their customers. I was asked to return next Thursday by the manager but rest of our interaction only cemented the fact that I will likely never return here.

Horrible service. The lady taking the orders at the front was very rude for no reason. I was polite but I can see they do not care if a customer will return or not. I ordered a big plate and they forgot to add the hot sauce. The lady acted like she didn't want to give it to me and didn't even give me enough for my meal. Almost 20 dollars for horrible service and incorrect order. I won't be back.

I have always ordered in the past and have had a wonderful dinner. This time although I arrived on time the fish was encrusted in a soggy bread crumb without a spice on it. Extremely bland and it tasted like something you would get from frozen food case. Fries were soggy as well but cold slaw was great. Very unhappy as for two dinners over $30 I expect better.

I'm not sure why so many gave 4-5 stars. Ordered a mushroom cheeseburger and was totally disappointed. The burger was very small and dry like it was cooked earlier and kicked to one side. For the price, I expected a bunch of mushrooms on the top, but there were so few I hardly saw any on top of the cheese. I chose a 'hard roll' which wasn't. It was a poor bun that was dry as well. If you compared this burger to McDonald's, Mc would win hands down. Not worth $11.00

Not safe for Celiac My husband has Celiac disease, he let them know more than once before we ordered. They offer gluten free options but must not take it seriously. He spent the rest of the next 24 hours sick.
