Loved the artichoke soup. Order some of the sourdough bread to dip in it. A+
Started with the artichoke heart / green chile soup, which was beyond delicious, before moving to sweet & perfect miyagi oysters then 🦀 legs with drawn butter, finished off with olallieberry 🥧. Heavenly. It's can be a wait to get in if you don't have a reservation so call ahead or just use it as an excuse to check out a few of the cute local shops.
If you're in pescadero, you must stop at this iconic restaurant. Beautiful history, amazing food, with a unique classic atmosphere. Famous for their Artichoke Soup, but you can't go wrong. Everything I have had over the years has been an absolute hit. Make sure to stop at the cafe across the street for a delicious Affogato, and Grab some bread from down the street to tie a nice ribbon around your Pescadero adventure.
It's been 30 years since I was here last. It's still unique and delicious. I came for the artichoke soup. It's just as delicious as I remember it. The staff was very nice and we had great service. We also had the best salad. Very yummy. And the garlic fries. Tons of garlic and delicious.
This food is incredible. Worth the drive. So lucky it was on our way home — and to catch the plum cobbler! Thank you for making our anniversary dinner so lovely.
As a retired Chef just prior to the pandemic, dining out has been sketchy at best. You ask the server is the hollandaise home made? Yeah I see them making it every morning, to later find out it’s knorSwiss , disappointed. Never been here before and lived in Santa since the early 90’s. Drove up from south county for my 69th bday. The five of us tried the artichoke soup, green chile soup, one half n half, the crab sandwich, calamari without tentacles, apricot pie, all berry pie à la mode both heated up. We ate in the restaurant and then walked through the bar. Everything was beyond my expectations of being OK it was great! Service was top-notch Terry the owner manager took our reservations and took care of us well. I only hope that I would’ve had a birthday candle and sung happy birthday off key. That’s OK it happened later that day. Going back to the flavors, everything was spot on! The pies were heavenly with the crust made of real butter flaky that just melted in your mouth. This place has been around since the 1890s and even have a jukebox in the bar. Not sure if it works, but it was awfully darn cute . We chose to go for lunch lunchtime and a walk around Pescadero into the bakery and see the art galleries, going for dinner it looks like The menu is a little more elaborate, but it’s consistent home cooking at its best.!
Its a little tight getting around, but worth it. I always order 1/2 green chili- 1/2 artichoke soup. Delicious! And, of course, sourdough bread.
A friend from work told me about this little local place since we were headed down to Pescadora Beach. He said Durarte's has the best pie. This place is only open from 12pm to 3pm Tuesday thru Friday and this berry is only picked in June. I paid $9 a slice and it was worth the drive from Sacramento. I was told to try their artichoke soup, however a local told me to get their half and half, half artichoke and half green chili.
I have been going here for years and am never disappointed. Their soups are all delicious; my favorite is 50/50 mix of their Artichoke and Green Chile soups. They have plenty of plates but my family prefers to order soup and another item to share. That way we don't have to pick a favorite! Be sure to save room for a warmed slice of their Ollaliberry pie with a scoop of vanilla. It is 🔥 and perfect cap to your meal. The Taverns wait staff are always friendly, attentive and full of good recommendations! Did I forget to mention the plate of fresh baked bread brought to your table while you are waiting for your order..? Do save a piece for sopping up the last bits of soup.
Stopped by for a quick lunch and had some pretty good meals. I had the shrimp salad and my girlfriend had the French dip. The French dip was great, we enjoyed the touch of jalapeños. The shrimp salad was pretty good. It was my first one I have had so nothing to compare it to. I rather enjoyed the beets combo with the olallieberry vinaigrette. The olallieberry margaritas was different but tasty. The staff were wonderful and it was a neat place. I would stop by again and reorder the marg and French dip.
Tip: Duarte's is famous for their artichoke soup. But from the manager we learned that you can have half chile soup half artichoke mixed together. It's a spicy smooth blend that you will really enjoy!
Love their artichoke soup and bread. Always have to stop by when I'm out this way.
Finally made it into this family tavern. We were too late for dinner as everything 8n town was closed already and it was 7 pm but we were lucky enough to.ger in for Happy hour. A gem of a place. I could move into Pescadero just because of this friendly down to earth 4th generation tavern. Not to forget. The bartender was simply awesome
Absolutely the best roadhouse/diner you will find near highway 1 on the peninsula. Walk inside this restaurant and be transported to a California decades ago. This is an historic spot with the bar dating to the 1890’s! Make sure to order the Artichoke AND Green Chili soup mixed together! It’s not on the menu but it’s the best option. Comes with warm sourdough bread. We also order a grilled cheese sandwich to dip in the soup. Fantastic!
We stopped here with healthy appetites after doing the guided seal tour at Año Nuevo State Park. We arrived without a reservation and had to wait for about 45 minutes to get a table for six, but the meal was definitely worth the wait. A few favorites: The crab melt sandwich, the artichoke soup and, of course, the pies. You can have them with whipped cream or a la mode, and the richness of their vanilla ice cream is worth mentioning. Top flavors included the rhubarb strawberry, the apple and the olallieberry. The bread pudding was also a favorite. On a side note: the bathrooms were clean and much appreciated! This place is not as easy for a g-free, dairy-free diner to navigate, but I always pack a snack. The ambiance and interesting history of the place still made for an enjoyable experience for our group.
A very nice selection of craft beer and the soup, along with the bread, was outstanding! Really very good!
The best tavern in town. Whenever we're down the coast exploring we get cold and hungry. We head over to Pescadero for hot food in cold drinks. Duarte's is the old-timey real deal. Great local food, good portions, good pouring. The French bread and the artichoke soup are amazing! Enjoy!
Well this was an unexpected good time as far as good goes. I thought this would be a typical farm like dining establishment. The food was really good, well made, not overly salted or heavy on the sauces. I had a Petrale Sole Sandwich which was light and perfectly grilled. The fries were crunchy and not overly fried in old oil, and the artichoke soup was excellent. The more we say about the Olallieberry berry the better. It was flaky, warm, and the ice cream complemented it perfectly. Really everything was unexpectedly great. Highly recommend and good on the $$ too. Best of all 17% gratuity was already included for a party of 2! I love it when they just give you a bill and I don't have to do math in my head.
I used to frequent Duartes a lot when I lived in nearby La Honda in the late 80s and early 90s. I went back last week for the first time in decades and it hasn't changed one bit, which is a GOOD THING. The small-town rustic ambience is unchanged and the green chilli soup and the artichoke dishes are as tasty as ever. I hope it's the same 20 years from now!
The half and half is excellent. Service is excellent. Prices are high but it’s the coast and expected. Definitely recommended.
An Indian vegetarian delighted in a classic American tavern when I expected to find may be a salad or two. Beet salad 5*. Cold, perfectly streamed beets marinated in mint and some mild sauce. So fresh! Mushroom toast 5* is a must have. Easily one of the best things I have ever had. They grow mushrooms in their nearby farm. This dish is a large toasted bread piece, sitting on balsamic vinaigrette and loaded with a mound of finely chopped grilled mushrooms. I must visit pescadero just to have it again. The artichoke soup is meh for Indian tastes. I will try green chile soup next time. My partner ordered snapper and liked it but agreed that mushroom toast was the best. Finished it all with pumpkin pie. Love love love. Cute rustic appearance. Good and fast service although it was full.
Duarte's Tavern is a charming and historic spot that's become quite the destination for anyone in the mood for a classic, hearty meal. Located in the small town of Pescadero, California, this family-run restaurant has been serving locals and travelers since 1894, and it has certainly built up a reputation. One of the standout items on the menu is the crab sandwich. It's generously filled with fresh, sweet crab meat, likely straight from the nearby coast. The sandwich is simple, allowing the quality of the crab to shine, but it’s incredibly satisfying. However, the price is notably high, which might make you think twice if you're on a budget. Yet, many find that the quality and taste justify the splurge, especially if you're treating yourself. Another must-try is their olallieberry pie. Lala berries are a local specialty, a cross between a raspberry and a blackberry, and Duarte’s has mastered the art of turning them into a delicious pie. The crust is flaky, the filling is perfectly sweet and tart, and it’s the kind of dessert that leaves a lasting impression. Even if you’re stuffed from the main course, the Lala berry pie is worth saving room for. Duarte’s Tavern has a cozy, old-school atmosphere with friendly service. The prices are definitely on the higher side, but considering the quality of the food—especially the fresh seafood and local specialties—it can be a worthwhile indulgence. Whether you're a local or just passing through, Duarte's Tavern offers a memorable dining experience that captures the essence of the coastal town it calls home.
Our friend brought us here and she raved about the ollieberry pie. It certainly did not disappoint. I’m still not sure if there’s actually an ollieberry but it was so tasty. I had the clam linguini and the clams were huge! Carl had the onion rings and they were a bit greasy. My sister and her friend shared the French dip and artichoke soup which was interesting. I really enjoy supporting local business and this mom and pop restaurant was wonderful. Definitely make sure you stop by if you’re near Half Moon Bay.
Plenty of parking. A good thrift store shares parking lot. So partner can shop while you wait for a table. Restaurant and bar is dark but not gloomy. Hearty food. Artichoke soup is excellent. Excellent bloody Mary's.
Christopher is a wonderful waiter. Kudos to him for being attentive and chill. The artichoke soup was great. The sourdough bread awesome and the speciality burger with onions and fries amazing. Overall great time.
Second time I visited, this time for a personal 70th Birthday celebration just for me. I came back for the Cioppino it exceeded my expectations, again. Sautéed veggies in a light, yet flavorful tomato broth. Mussels, white fish and jumbo shrimp, perfectly seasoned and cooked just right. And, the Dungeness Crab 🦀 was overly abundant (lots of it 💜). Meaty, succulent, moist, seasoned, simple perfection 💯. Sour dough bread and butter 🎯. Olillaberry Margarita was delish. 😋 AND, th 50/50 artichoke and green chili soup was simply amazing. 🤯
It was one of only a few lunch options in Pescadero, but turned out to be a great one. The food was all excellent and the waiting staff was very knowledgeable and helpful. The price was on the higher side, but everyone left the place happy and satisfied.
The most delicious artichoke green Chile soup ever!! Warm bread for dunking. Off menu grilled shrimp and cheese sandwich was delightful. As was the mushroom toast. Very delicious. Always a great place to grab a delicious lunch. Very friendly service.
Delightful place, solid service, and the bartenders are stellar. I'm a whiskey aficionado and I love old fashions. The house old fashioned at Duarte's competes with the best I've had in top-notch restaurants in San Francisco and Vegas. The dining room and bar are both very small. So plan ahead, and if you don't want to wait too long go in early. I went on a weekday each time I've been there, and seating was readily available, but weekends can get really busy.
Stopping by Duartes is such a treat for us when we are on the coast. We come for the soup and fresh bread, specifically, but I haven't been disappointed in any other things we have ordered. We love the old bar. It makes us feel like we are walking into an old saloon. It literally feels like you've stepped back in time. Its really cool! Eating in the restaurant makes me feel like I'm eating in my grandma's kitchen. It has a certain smell that is earned over years and years of cooking. Its as if the wood paneling absorbed all the good cooking the kitchen has done in its years. The cocktails are fantastic and our favorite soup, the 50/50 artichoke, green chile combo is heaven!!! Its pricey, but its absolutely delicious. We will return as many times as we can and we hope they are around for years to come.
Food was excellent, service seemed disinterested, an historic building and a beach town feel, but don't let a few dirty corners keep you away. Everything we had was exceptional, but make sure you mortgage is paid it ain't cheap. Also they don't try to hide it but a 17% gratuity is added to the already high prices.
This historic building and the restaurant has been owned by the same family since the 1860s. They have their own vegetable garden so their veggies are very fresh. The interior is dark and certainly has a historic vibe. Thankfully the bathrooms are modern and clean. There is a small eat in restaurant and the bar also has a few tables. I sat at the bar and had a mojito that was delicious. I had the Crab Sandwich which came with fries, both very good. I was momentarily put off when I saw the white bread the crab came on, however it tasted fine. Excellent fries! Nice and crispy and not oily. Took the Asparagus soup to go and it was delicious! Service was friendly and prompt without being overbearing. Will definitely return.

Artichoke soup is speciality, good food, local spot, near store that sells warm artichoke sourdough bread that is one of a kind-superb!!!
Artichoke soup is a classic. It's hearty and delicious, and at $18.25 a bowl, it can be lunch. We split the crab melt in addition, and it was a little oily but very fun. Seated next to the historic bar was a cool vibe.
Duarte's Tavern has been in business a loooong time, and it shows. They grow their own produce, are known for their pies (try the olallieberry) and soups (creamy artichoke). While your visit won't be inexpensive, it promises to be memorable. Go learn why Duarte's has been a tradition in our family for several decades.
A little disappointing. The French dip was standard but enjoyed the jalapeños on it. Fish and chips above average. Salad with bay shrimp was good but the blue cheese dressing was so thin. It was like milk with blue cheese cumbles in it with no taste. We won't go back.
I walked in,first timer, enjoyed the old school ambience. The good natured Tim took my order for artichoke soup and bread to go,and gave me a gizmo for when to pick up at outdoor window... Whilst awaiting delivery, a classy white Mustang convertible arrived, two women in front and an elderly gent in back, they helped him out,but once out,he straightened up pretty good,so I walked over and introduced myself. He commented bout my Navy hat and he,Gill had also served 24 years. We chatted a bit,I got the soup, saw Gill a few more times along Main St,good times, the soup was good too!
We had a decent lunch here with good service. I had the fish sandwich, which was well-prepared (lightly breaded and fried and the toasted bread was good), but not super tasty. Even a little bit of salt would have helped. The rest of our group had artichoke soup, sand dabs, fish and chips, and mussels. The artichoke appetizer was just a few artichoke hearts on a plate with what seemed like ranch dressing. It would have been nice to have enjoyed some of the leaves and a better sauce. The juices and lemonade were good. Careful with the tap water, it can be a little funky. The star here is the pies. Definitely splurge for the pies! I had the apricot, and our table agreed that was the best, but they were all delicious.
The half artichoke half green chili cream soup is amazing with the sourdough bread. You have to get the berry pie with ice cream;
An historic place and a staple of downtown Pescadero. Be sure to check the website for operating hours. They do not take reservations, so expect to wait up to an hour sometimes for a table on the weekends. Go for the Calamari Steak sandwich (stick to the original, not the cajun), and the half artichoke and half green chili soup. They also have a take away window which is a great option too.
The food here was excellent. We had the fried calamari, the fried snapper with cooked broccoli, and a fat slice of olallieberry pie with vanilla ice cream. My only issue with the food was that the portion of fried snapper was relatively small. However, that was counterbalance by the large slice of olallieberry pie and the generous scoop of ice cream. My favorite item was the Ollalieberry pie, which was both tart and sweet and paired very well with the ice cream. Service was okay. My main issue was with the long wait. We were told that there would be a 20 minute wait. We ended up waiting over half an hour. it was a rainy Saturday afternoon between 3:00 and 4:00 so we thought it should not have been a super busy time. The restaurant has apparently been around for a long time. It has a somewhat worn down but still serviceable air about it.
Walked in around 1 pm for a table for 2 and waited 15 minutes. It's a small restaurant. We just came in for a snack and ordered the half artichoke and half green chile soup $18.25 and a slice of ollalieberry pie $11. The soup was pretty good, we tried each part of the soup separately (it comes unmixed so you can taste each one separately if you spoon carefully) and also together, the combo really is the best. It's a good soup, worth the price? Probably not, but at least it's a decent portion and comes with fresh sourdough bread. The ollalieberry pie was decent. Personal preference, but it was a bit sour/tart. Big slice though and it's packed with filling so at least you get value. Overall, I think it's worth trying both of these must order items once, but probably not worth a revisit
The menu here looks really good and homemade but alas, not much of it is for gluten-free folks. The artichoke soup is delicious. It was all I could happily eat personally. The fries even have wheat on them. A few gluten-free items besides that comprise the menu. My family and friends all enjoyed everything else on the menu. I went across the street and had delicious tacos.
A Solid, Family-Friendly Spot in Town Duante's Tavern is a great option for families looking for a comfortable meal out. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was welcoming, and the service was attentive and friendly throughout our visit. A huge plus for us was discovering they offer kids' dishes that aren't listed on the main menu. It was a relief to find some simple, kid-friendly options available. While the adult food was decent, it didn't quite hit the mark of being great—it was perfectly fine, just not spectacular. Overall, we had a really good experience. If you're in the area with kids and need a reliable place with a pleasant vibe and great service, Duante's Tavern is definitely worth a visit.
I tried the signature Cioppino at Duarte’s Tavern today, and while the seafood itself was fresh, the overall experience was a bit underwhelming. The tomato acidity didn’t come through, leaving the broth thinner and less layered than expected. The spices lacked definition, and instead of a bright, rich finish, the seafood’s intensity brought out a faint bitterness, especially noticeable in the fish. This may have been due to underdeveloped tomato flavor, an unbalanced spice profile, or perhaps too much lemon juice. The portion size was generous, but the flavor balance fell short of the bold, hearty cioppino I was hoping for. But the artichoke soup half and half really good 👍.
This place is in its own category of ratings. I say this because it has been open since 1894. It is sort of a local institution that is worth a visit if for nothing more than their fresh pies. The service was not so fantastic but it was busy and she did okay. The building is obviously old but it is very clean. The men's room looked like it needed some loving, but hey....the building is over 💯 years old. Despite the lack of good table service, despite the old run-down look of many things.... the food and the pie were delicious. Also, you have to realize there are very few places to eat out this way.....So, in short, this is the best the area has to offer for a decent meal.
Great little place to eat close to the beach and away from the crowds of Half Moon Bay. I had the Linguini with clams but could not finish it because with the clams, the wine sauce, and the pieces of sausage it was so salty! I would not recommend it. My daughter had the fish and chips. The fish was very tender and the breading was perfectly crispy. The fries were also very good and crispy. My son had the French dip sandwich and really liked it as well. We, of course, had to try the pies. We got the olallieberry, strawberry and rhubarb, and peach pie a la mode. All very delicious and ranked in order of which was best was peach, olallieberry (like a tart raspberry), and then strawberry rhubarb. Our only complaint about the pie is that the crust end was very very thick so we feel like we got shorted on some filling.
Came here for a quick mid-day snack around 4:00 PM, and was pleasantly surprised by the delightful experience. Our waitress suggested trying their 🍲 half-half green chilli and artichoke soup, which turned out to be a fantastic combination. While both were delicious, we personally preferred the artichoke soup for its mild, nutty flavour and thick texture. The complementary sourdough bread was a lovely touch. Warm, crispy on the outside, and soft on the inside, it was the perfect starter. I couldn't resist trying a slice of 🥧 Olallieberry Pie, which was a new experience for me. I was surprised by the abundance of tiny seeds but found the flavour and texture to be a delightful combination of sweet, tangy berry jam and two layers of flaky pastry. The tavern's warm, homey atmosphere was evident from the moment we walked in. We overheard the owner telling another table about the restaurant's long history, which added to the charming ambience. 😊
Yum!\nDon't forget to get the Artichoke & Pepper soup or your Pie! Been going for breakfast or lunch whenever I go down the coast for o er 25 yrs.

Stood around waiting for someone to acknowledge us. Once they finally did order was taken but the pie we came for was nothing special. Probably a once and done thing.

Loved the atmosphere. Loved the salad. fresh greens from their garden!! Had the cream of artichoke soup mixed with the Cream of Poblano soup. Super good!
The chili and artichoke soups are the best. the atmosphere is rustic but the food is good. Near the ocean, and cute shops.
I think Duartes may be resting on their rep. For $80, I had bland artichoke soup and a grilled cheese - American cheese like substance on white bread. (I guess I thought In California, they would…
The guidebook has this as a don't miss lunch spot between San Francisco and Santa Cruz. Well, it was a good sandwich in a cozy place with a bar and a few tables. Certainly not in the "don't miss"…
Artichoke Soup Bowl $18.25 We were Not wowed, only by the price. Not a piece or a garnish to represent an artichoke. Very thick, its like they added potatoes to make it creamy. My suggestion add lemon to bring out the color and a little ounce of flavor. The Olilliberry-lemonade Hands Down Delicious! Too bad no “free” refills since half the glass is ice. Service was great, glad to see wait staff rather than ordering via QR code.
Hadn’t been here since I was a kid and wanted to try as an adult. Got there right at opening on a Saturday and it was packed by the time we left. Got the famous cioppino and artichoke soup. Cioppino had a lot of seafood; practically a whole crab, three clams, three shrimp (still in shell) and a good sized piece of fish. However the flavor was missing. It was pretty bland. My mom said the same of the artichoke soup. I thought it tasted like artichoke though. Fried prawns appetizer was quite good and very fresh. Overall we agreed that it wasn’t worth the drive, but at least the ocean view was nice!
Came here Saturday for dinner. Ordered food Togo so we could sit outside. We ordered a signature burger, deep fried jumbo prawn appetizer, side of fries, and a Coke. Burger was fine. Nothing special. Prawns were fried well but bland. Also it was $25 and I only got 5 pieces of shrimp. It was VERY disappointing especially for the cost. Fries were probably the best thing. But restaurant doesn’t even carry ranch. Lastly the Coca Cola was so bad I had to ask them to switch it to sprite . Which wasn’t even any better. Either the machine hasn’t been cleaned or they’re using off brand syrup or the ratio of it all is off. But it was a really dirty taste. We had some of our friend’s ollalieberry pie but the filling was way too watery. Beet salad was probably the next best thing after the fries. But employees there were very nice. Maybe food from their sit down menu might be better? But everything else was very mediocre.
Nice ambience for ordinary but fairly high priced food. I wished could have tasted the artichoke in the soup.
Used to come to this restaurant often because my aunt and uncle liked it, especially the tripe stew and the artichoke soup. It has been at least 7 years since I've been here and the menu no longer…
Used to be great, no more. We've used to visit Duarte's over the years, and always liked the food. Our last visit in November 2024 will be our last. The menu has dropped many old favorites, the prices for the remaining items are way up, and quality of the food is way down compared to earlier. Their artichoke soup was still good, but for example the shrimp salad was just plain bad. We'll be avoid this place from now on.
The food is great but the prices have gone up so much I'll never be able to do it again. Not at $20 for a cup of soup 😔
This place was talked up to us, but overall we found the food pretty bad. Artichoke soup was ok, a little on the rich side. French dip sandwich was just mediocre and pretty tasteless. The fried calamari we had was the worst we've ever tasted, was soggy and chewy, completely disgusting. The food was also pretty overpriced. Service was very friendly, which is the only reason I'm giving a second star.
Today I ate at Duarte’s for the third time. I went mainly for the artichoke soup, which I previously liked. Perhaps the steep jump in price affected my perception ($18.75 for an 8 ounce bowl of soup that used to cost $11 just a few years ago) but I found the soup bland and very disappointing. Sad to say but I think Duarte’s is resting on it’s laurels. I will not be returning.
Not sure why the high rating. We were a bit disappointed. We had a 20 min wait. Food was bland, the fries were good. The sandwiches, soup and fish dishes were ordered had little to no flavor. Paid about $30 per person on an average.
Always have loved coming here, but the last two times that I have come in - I feel as if the quality and quantity keeps changing. Artichoke Soup was fine and the amazing warm bread and butter are always a delight. Fried calamari appetizer served on bread plate. Fish and chips, artichoke soup plus hamburger were ok; but the crab sandwich could have had a little more kick to it along with more crab. Service and ambience are always great.
I'm a seafood lover, and came away quite disappointed.\nCalamari appetizer, Seafood Chowder, and Petrale Sole sandwich... grossly over-priced.\nI would generally go for Crab Cioppino, but $55 for t…
Way over priced. Food is terrible. Service is worse! Adding a17% tip is out of the question. I tip on service, usually over20%. Pay a living wage Tim. Don’t make the customer pay! Ron, your dad w…
Very disappointed in our recent trip to Duarte's. My partner and I usually love their pies, and this time we decided to try some of their food as well. We ordered the snapper and chips and half artichoke, half green chile soup. The soup was alright, but not too filling. The fish and chips were a $20 disaster. I expected at least a fillet or two of fish, but instead got five or six little scraps (pictured) and a plate that was 80% greasy fries. Definitely not worth the price. The pies were pretty good--the only highlight of our dinner. We arrived at 6 pm, which was apparently an hour too late to be seated inside, even though the place closed at 7. They have some tables outside, but it was cold and there were no heaters, so we just ended up eating in the car. I think the worst part was the 17% mandatory tip, even for take-out. Usually I tip 17% if I had a great service experience, and here I had no service (beyond a lady at reception to put in my order). I understand that times are tough due to COVID, but I really don't think a business should charge a mandatory tip when we were not even served. As someone else mentioned, it's a bit presumptious. The bill just ends up being ridiculously high (over $60), and for that price, we could have just gone to a really good restaurant that wasn't over an hour out of our way. I think if you're nearby and want pies (and nothing else), go to Duarte's. Otherwise, it's not worth the time or money. Very disappointed.
Used love coming here since I was a kid, so I was excited to come back after a few years. Not only has the food quality gone down immensely but prices have gone up and service has gotten worse. Their pie was always a delight, so I hoped for one more good thing. However, not only was the filling quite sour but the crust was so bad it felt/tasted like it was only water and flour
Not what it used to be. Thanks to Tim Duarte and his incompetent stewardship, this has gone from an iconic eatery to an ironic joke. Expect to be clipped for at least 50 a person for bland seafood served with Emma Duarte's special side-dish of hate. That much Tim has preserved. The other dishes are less preserved than Ozark Mountain jam. Do yourself a favor, and try the mountain House, or even the gas station across main street for decent tacos.
Our waitress was great the bus girl was the worse. We weren’t even finished with our over priced mediocre food and she was rudely directing us to stack plates for her. Like interrupting our conversation and telling us to stack plates. As for the food , for the prices we paid I’d expect much better quality, as my $39 crab melt was burnt on the edges, cold, bland , not melted and had a small amount of crab in it. The fresh bread and artichoke soup was good, and the fried prawns okay but overall we were very disappointed to say the least.
I remembered my Mom and Dad talking about how delicious Duarte was. My sister and her friend came to enjoy a delicious crab sandwich. Very disappointed when the sandwich arrived. The so called crab was fake crab the consistency of fake crab in a California Roll, on a white bread! With dried frozen fries . $40.00 waste! Will never return. If you're serving fake crab, note it on your menu.
This place has gone downhill. They’ve put their prices up a ton. $18 for a small bowl of vegetable soup is CRAZY! Their fries and onion rings are clearly bought premade and frozen. $24 for a tiny mediocre calamari sandwich. Used to be a regular but not any more. Disappointing.
