We have just celebrated our 60th Birthday with a party at the Peterley Manor Farm Barn Kitchen. The whole affair was organised for us by Pippa and her team, who were extremely efficient, well organised and had thought of everything. The planning in advance, the preparations on the day, the thoughtful little touches were all great, and our guests were very complimentary. The food, drinks and overall service were very professional and we were able to enjoy the party without having to worry. We had a wonderful evening, and if you are considering a top-notch party venue, then this is an excellent choice.
I love coming back to Peterley in an area we used to live with fond memories of the children growing up , and have seen it evolve over 27 years to the wonderful space it is today . We had a delicious brunch yesterday and the cakes are so good I had to take some away . Seeing the new outdoor kitchen serving flatbreads and burgers amongst other things made me want to come back for lunch as soon as possible ! Pushed for time I quickly ran over to the strawberry field and filled my punnet to the brim with the sweetest deep red delicious fruit . Then there’s the farm shop and the nursery filled with the amazing bright summer colours everywhere and herb house where you can be sure to find something you always knew you needed ! Definitely recommend a visit and allow lots of time !
Had a fantastic lunch at the Barn Kitchen. We booked in advance as the indoor seating is limited, there are more seating outside. The staff were very friendly and attentive. A lot of the menu items had gf and/or vegan alternatives. I had the roasted veg sandwich which I'd highly recommend. It was a lot more filling than I expected and tasted delicious. The only down sides with the venue are the acoustics which aren't ideal and the capacity of the venue as I can imagine it being very full during the summer.
I visit The Barn kitchen a lot and went again last Wednesday to have breakfast with a friend. It was such a lovely experience delicious breakfast, gorgeous environment and our waitress Harriet was warm, friendly and attentive.
Our first visit today and firmly on the list of places to frequent! Delectable and creative take on cakes [all made from scratch onsite]. Locally sourced beverages. Delightful, polite and efficient staff undertaking all roles. Despite the place being very busy, it was beautifully relaxing and quiet with everyone being self aware and we'll mannered keeping their conversations between themselves. A very popular venue for well behaved children and content babies. We loved it and look forward to returning for an evening session!
Excellent cafe/restaurant. I bring my meetup group on Fridays sometimes and we always have a good time. Friendly, helpful staff, great food. I visit for coffee and cake, sometimes breakfast! It never disappoints, though at busy times you will need to book!
I ordered the burger with sourdough as I cannot eat yeast (the burger usually comes with a brioche bun). It was probably the best burger I've ever had. The patty was amazing, the chips were good and the add-on bacon was super crispy. I was served by Evie, who was lovely and very helpful. She went out of her way to check for allergens for me, and I'm very appreciative of this. The seating was comfortable and it wasn't cold indoors, which is great to know especially now in the winter. I would recommend Minor Figures as an alternative to the current, British oat milk brand. Minor Figures works well for both hot and cold coffees as well as tea. The current PureOaty brand tastes of oats and for me, it's off-putting as I want to taste the coffee as opposed to the actual cereal grain. It's for this reason that I won't be trying desserts at the Barn Kitchen or sticking around after my meal for a coffee, sadly. But overall, a fantastic place with great food and service.
Our new favourite Chiltern retreat. Aside from the simple but stylish design there are really 3 seating areas to suit all weathers and preferences. Our first visit was a full success. Had drinks and cakes and were services promptly and friendly. Saturday afternoon spent in relaxing athmosphere. Special attention was paid to locally sourced products, the low calorie sparkling dring (below 12) is from Hughenden (something that was a bit of a surprise to me). The Barn Kitchen is dog friendly and offers breakfast from 8:30am all day and 9am on Sunday. Can't wait to book that.
Lovely inside and outside eating space. Very popular and I am not surprised as the food and drink was delicious. Very sweet waitresses who answer your dietary questions. We had Venison and Pork terrine which was scrumptious. Scotch egg. A Zinger drink etc. Small plate was £10 and adequate for lunch. We shared a Carrot and Coconut cake which was divine. Lovely coffee. Outside has heated areas. Nice loos and decor. Farm shop has lovely produce- expensive as per usual. I recommend this for families, friends and couples.
Had a lovely family brunch, service quick and our server Betty was very welcoming and hospitable.
Busy lunchtime, we had not booked a table, but they were able to provide us a table for 2. We both had a venison burger, which was delicious. The service was friendly, and food arrived quickly even though they were busy. We both enjoyed the food , and the place had a good atmosphere. We will definitely be coming back again. There is plenty of car park spaces, and the outdoor area is under cover and has an open fire They also provided blankets to help keep you warm as it was a bit chilly and had been raining recently. thanks to everyone on the team for a great lunch.
I can see this place going from strength to strength. They’ve got it pretty much spot on. Great decor, good staff, dog friendly. The outdoor dining area, with a fabulous fire, is getting bigger and I love the outdoor kitchen. The shepherds hut serving coffee has a separate seating area which stops 20 cyclists turning up and hogging the seating area. I understand they now do a Friday evening meal - yet to try that - but if the food’s as good as the daytime offer it’ll be a huge success.
We came here for coffee after a lovely walk in the nearby countryside. It was a sweet restaurant/cafe with plenty of seating and gorgeous decorations. They offer a variety of different drinks, both hot and cold, which were all delicious. The service was very friendly and quick. We will definitely be back!
A Delightful Farm-to-Table Experience with Unexpected Charms Tucked away is a true hidden gem: a wonderful, family-run farm restaurant that offers so much more than just incredible food. Beyond the dining experience, they also boast a charming florist and host special events like birthdays and gender reveals in their quaint "little York's" spaces. For those looking for an extra touch of relaxation, there's even a hot sauna area available for booking. And speaking of extra touches, their outdoor area is simply amazing, a vibrant space adorned with beautiful flowers. Even on cooler days, you can cozy up with their thoughtful throws to stay warm. It's clear they think of everyone, as there's also a large tap with drinking water for dogs – a huge plus for pet owners! I can easily imagine this spot being even more inviting in the winter, likely warmed by a large, crackling fire pit. But let's talk about the food! I had the scrumptious trout which came with a selection of two vegetables. Initially, the menu phrasing made me think the sides would arrive on separate plates, but they were perfectly portioned alongside the main. And what sides they were! The vegetables were absolutely amazing, bursting with an unreal amount of flavor. I suspect they source many of these fresh ingredients directly from their own farm and other local producers, which would explain the incredible taste and the emphasis on seasonal food. To complete my meal, I enjoyed one of their fantastic smoothies, which was the perfect complement. And since I couldn't resist trying more, I also indulged in a flavorful turmeric coffee. This restaurant truly offers a unique and memorable experience, combining delicious, fresh food with a charming atmosphere and a variety of delightful amenities.
Amazing food!
Lovely venue. Friendly service
Always a lovely brunch, although the menu had changed this time and we missed the "bubble & squeak"!
What a gem at the end of a Chiltern walk! Fabulous food and cakes. Very dog friendly.
Amazing location and attention to detail. Friendly staff and great food (especially the small plates)!
Always really enjoy going here, never have an issue with wait times or service, super pleasant every time. Food is great and lots of seating choices. Outdoor area especially nice a sunny day!
Afternoon tea, brunch, coffee, fathers day, Christmas Market, farm shop...every time I visit here these guys go above and beyond. Fantastic service and genuinely nice people, food and atmosphere. Dog friendly too!!
Lovely breakfast and enjoyed a visit to farm shop
What a beautiful place with beautiful food and fantastic service! Great if you want to pop in for a coffee and cake before visiting the farm or shop, or a full burger & fries after a long walk!!!
Enjoyed a stone baked pizza style lunch, one with cheese & tomato, the other with salami. Unfortunately they missed off one of the extra toppings after waiting 20 mins but this was soon remedied by our smiling waitress. The place is large and well designed. Perfect for a leisurely breakfast or lunch. The childrens play area means families can all enjoy their food. A great place and environment
The decor is very good. Service was friendly and fast. The food was very well presented and tasty - certainly well above a standard cafe experience. Pricing is slightly higher than most places, but justified for the quality. The waitress did make a point of saying that I can choose the gratuity when paying. The service was good, but not above what I would expect - anyway, I gave a 10% (£5) tip and got a courtesy 'thank you'. The farm shop has a lot of good produce.
My friends who live in the area took us here for lunch as they had been here before and liked it, and so did I yesterday. Mussels in the fish stew were sweet and plump 😍, the rosemary focaccia soaked up the sauce of the stew were simply great flavour combo. I liked the sausage a lot too, but I think the cassoulet was the star of the dish somehow. I did not understand the charred spring onion though (not fennel as said on menu), it was slightly stringy. The restaurant has good atmosphere both inside and outside seating (we were outside sitting by the fire, so we dined with a lovely firewood cracking background sound).☺️
The service was great - friendly staff, food was good - we particularly enjoyed the eggs and bacon + juice.
Pls do something about this “shot locally” for us vegetarians is vile. Be careful if this gets around to animal rebellion they will stage a sit in ! - seriously this is an utterly disgusting description of a dish on your menu farmers or not - thank you in anticipation 🙏🏼and please leave the deer alone!
Absolutely delicious food in a picturesque barn with fast and friendly service, being dog friendly was just the cherry on top. Only downside was the wait got a table but that could have been remedied by us booking although I couldn't find a booking form or website to do so.
Had a great brunch here, service was amazing as always, I do wish you had some plant milk other than glebe farm oat which is very bitter. Most places have a variety of plant milks to choose from.
Lovely venue and the afternoon tea was pretty decent but the service was soooo slow! Took ages just to get us seated (even though we had a reservation) and we waited almost 30 mins to be given our food (with no apology)
The staff is friendly and helpful, however this is really overpriced. 7.8 for 2 small broken portion of cakes
Something else for a change from local Polcat Inn in Prestwood. Just went today and had a ciabatta with egg instead of crispy bacon which was on the menu as am not a big fan of bacon. They served literally just that- ciabatta with an egg. No decoration on the plate, no condiments, no S&P on the table. Well, one could say you ahould ask for it but I would say it should be offered or delivered with the order. Haven't tried any cakes yet, so I will revisit but at the moment I am only impressed with the decor and the building construction. To impress me like Polcat Inn did the barn kitchen has a long way to go.
Very disappointed 😞 with service and over complicated food, sauces did not complement the food, it was so slow to be served and really quick to be served, main cam before starters. Lovely venue. Unfortunately, it was overpriced, too.
Very nice looking place we booked the table arrived and had a choice to be seated in or outside. We have chosen table outside and our order was taken fast and arrived quickly. Food was good but we waited for long time for someone to take our plates away in the end we had call passing waitress and ask her to take our plates away and to get dessert menu. We waited over 20 minutes after that for someone to take our order in the end we left very disappointed and pay at the bar.
Went for lunch to try this local restaurant and we were initially very positively surprised by the location. The barn has been refurbished very nicely. The waitress kindly prepared a table for us despite not having booked. Service has been pleasant during the whole lunch. Foodwise, it was a disgrace. I ordered a burger and I was basically told that I couldn't chose how this is cooked. After I discovered that they are actually precooked. A 15 pounds burger was basically a precooked patty with 1 slice of tomato and 1 slice of cucumber. The aioli at the bottom was far too much, thick and it didn't really taste of anything, while the green sauce on top was too salty and not much else (was this supposed to be a chimichurri?). The patty was most probably sitting there for a while as I had bloating issues afterwards. My wife ordered the cassoulet with smoked sausages and also in this case this was a big disappointment. Sausages might have been quite nice but were over-smoked. The soup was far too salty and it tasted like had been frozen, there was no taste of beans, just salt and fennel seeds. The food is overpriced considering the size of the portions and the execution of the dishes. There might be some decent ingredients involved but the feeling is that you are being served badly prepared cantine food at premium prices in a nice location. The beetroot cake was ok. I don't think we will be rushing back.
Changing my review as it’s definitely improved since it first opened.
This was such a shame, the place looked lovely and we used to come to strawberry cafe all the time so were really excited to try the breakfast here but it was so lacklustre and felt very rushed. We brought our friends visiting from Spain here as a treat because we knew how good the food at strawberry cafe was and we were a little embarrassed. The vegan breakfasts came out with no scrambled tofu which is what we really wanted. The sweetcorn fritters we’re not nice at all, full of turmeric and tasted like onion bhaji, the beans were hard and cold so they tasted uncooked. The toast was overdone and almost burnt, the mushrooms were so plain and soggy like you’d expect at a greasy spoon. For £12 we were disappointed. They did apologise with a brownie but we now don’t know if this was just a one off or if the food is just bad here??
Lovely atmosphere and setting , relaxed and friendly staff but been twice now and food disappointing on both occasions. Used to be amazing when in the yurt but not now sadly. I would have sent my burnt skillet back had I not been taken out for lunch & didn’t want to make a fuss ….
Disappointing vegan options for lunch. I didn't want anything as big as a burger si I chose the marrowfat peas on sourdough toast. Peas were too hard and the whole thing was quite dry with too much chilli. Coffee was good, but I won't go for lunch here again unless there's a big improvement.
Fabulous place, ambience nice.. BUT let down was waiting at the door to be seated (when we booked our table) and our food, we ordered flatbreads very disappointing very dry and bland! Staff seemed to struggle with volume of customers although it was not full.. I will give it another go as the place is great and try something else on the menu.. Perhaps it’s teething problems we shall see….
Very disappointing experience Yesterday we came to your café at 15:00 to have a coffee with our baby. At the entrance, the staff member responsible for seating guests told us that there were no available tables. However, this was clearly not true. At that moment, there were two free four-seater tables, one free two-seater table, and another four-seater table that was about to become available. Despite this, we were told there was no space inside and were advised to sit outside with a newborn baby, while it was cold and raining. We found this attitude extremely disappointing and disrespectful towards guests, especially families with small children. Offering outdoor seating in such weather conditions to parents with a newborn is unacceptable. This situation left a very negative impression of the service and the way guests are treated. I hope the management will address this issue and provide proper training to front-of-house staff to ensure more respectful and attentive service in the future.
I’m disappointed to have to create a review like this. I’m a huge supporter and believer in supporting local businesses. But, having frequented many establishments locally and had fantastic brunches with friends, The Barn Kitchen brought our great run of brilliant experiences crashing to the ground. Put bluntly, our full breakfast was appalling. Cold (not even warm) and congealed. I have had twice as good in a service station and they are poor! We all sent them back, all three were stone cold. They came back luke warm (this is generous) we ate what was edible, the bacon I could have made a belt from, the mushroom was shrivelled and slimy, and the tomatoes looked like an early sundried without the sun! On a positive note the coffee was good. We did get an apology and a free second coffee, and the staff were very apologetic. But, if someone complains about the cold food make sure the returned food is exceptional. There are a few extra notes, the barn is noisy and echoing so people with hearing issues will struggle in busy periods. So many great places around, we won’t return here
