This will be a long one, but a good one. From start to finish, the experience at Victor Cafe was over-the-top wonderful. It started a month out from Valentine's Day. I called to book a table for 10 people for V-Day. This is not a usual request, so Colin said he would work his best to accommodate. At first he and I agreed on two tables of 4 and a table for 2, all next to one another. Two weeks later, unsolicited, he called back and said he was putting us in the private room upstairs in the lounge, in order to have us all sit together. It was spectacular. Our group had Patrick as our waiter/baritone soloist and Steve as the tenor/bartender. Another young lady (a short black woman-soprano) also sang for us. The food was great (the Pearl Fisher pasta was the best), the drinks were exceptional, the service was 5-star. Then the owners stopped in to say hello. What a treat. Our $1,100 dinner was well worth it. Victor Cafe was always my favorite Philly restaurant. My wife and I had been there several times. But, this past Valentine's Day sealed the deal. Thank you, Patrick, Steve, and Colin, for making the evening the most amazing dinner party we've ever had at any restaurant.
My first time at The Victor Cafe and it was so nice. We went on a Wednesday night with an early dinner reservation. We had cocktails upstairs and I was in awe of the place. Beautifully decorated with a vintage setting and pictures everywhere. My margarita was perfect and so was my husband’s cocktail. Renee was our server and she was so courteous and knowledgeable and I have to say has an incredible singing voice. We had dinner downstairs which consisted of clams casino, a beet salad, a chicken dinner and a pork chop dinner. We were given a complimentary dessert for our anniversary. Truly a memorable dinner and I look forward to a return visit.
A fantastic experience all around! The food is delicious and the servers are professional opera singers. There aren't enough words to describe how great this place is. Go! It's great for groups, families, couples, everyone!. 5 Stars!
Amazing place!! A must go. While you are eating the waiters sing opera. The food was delicious and very hot as we love it. 2 years going for our anniversary and never disappoints. ❤️❤️
Family bday dinner exceeded expectations. Was very impressed with the performances by the wait staff, alongside the tasty food and welcoming atmosphere. Definitely recommend Victor Café for a one-of-a-kind dining experience 💯
Wow, Wow, Wow! First time at The Victor Cafe. Walked in and we were immediately seated at our stated reservation time. A table for two in a great location. Our server asked us if we had ever been to the Victor Cafe and neither of us had ever been there. She then explained that all of the employees are classically trained singers and that periodically throughout the evening they would perform. I would say that every 20-30 minutes they performed a song from an opera. It was amazing ... so amazing! At the same time, there was food. We split arincini and a beet salad before our main course, and both were delicious. For my entree, I selected one of the specials for the night, Veal Parmigiana, and my partner chose Fruti di Marni. It was a lot of food. My veal was wonderful, and my partners Fruti di Marni was more seafood than pasta. The Victor Cafe is one of the most enjoyable dining experiences I have had ... I absolutely loved it!!!
This is our first time to Philadelphia and we are big Stallone/Rocky fans so we were excited to try this restaurant where some of Rocky Balboa and Creed was filmed. This was one of the best dining experiences with phenomenal entrees, excellent staff, beautiful atmosphere and amazing entertainment with the wait staff breaking into operatic song!! Our server Brenton was AMAZING! 10/10 recommend!!
We were visiting Philly and wanted to experience the whole Rocky experience. I surprised my hubby with a reservation here with some friends for a birthday celebration. We heard opera periodically throughout our dinner & ended with an opera happy birthday seranade. The food was really delicious & both SAD diet visitors & multiple dietary restrictions people can have a good time together here. I was able to eat gluten free and vegan: mushroom risotto, broccoli rabe, and vegan chocolate ice cream for dessert. So a delicious complete meal. The hubby got eggplant rollentini that he enjoyed. Our friends got the veal that they both enjoyed. We also went to the bathroom upstairs where we saw the Rocky pictures & the Adrian’s sign that they called the restaurant in the movie. Our friends said the upstairs is open for drinks at the bar on weekends.
What an AMAZING EXPERIENCE! Excellent customer service, food, and atmosphere! Great history and heritage of the restaurant, along with its connection to the ROCKY legacy. Whether you like opera or not, the live music is AMAZING and really sets the mood for the restaurant. Thank you to the entire staff for your effort, kindness, and all of the information you provided us, we humble appreciate it! Thank you from all of us here at EXPENDABLES!
What a wonderful treat in South Philadelphia! Charming restaurant with opera singers and delicious food & cocktails.
This amazing little hidden jewel made my day for my second visit. The atmosphere is truly exceptional, small rooms with beautiful artefacts and artist pictures, a cozy bar with comfortable seating and last, the fabulous performances of the servers, bartender and busboy will transport you thanks to their passion to sing! I am a musician and I had tears in my eyes each time they took the floor to share an aria with the patrons, suddenly quiet and transported in a different world, opera or jazzy song. What a show. So much passion and humility, I will return again and again. Bravo guys, keep singing and serving good food! Vive la vie et l'amour de la musique !
My friend booked this restaurant and he said it was really good but didn’t tell me to be ready for such an amazing dinner we had. Staffs were very nice, in special Yanellie. The staffs sing every 30 minutes and that was the cherry of the ice cream 🤌🏻🤌🏻. The food was delicious and the creamy polenta. I super recommend this place.
This will be one of your best dinning experiences. From the atmosphere, the great food, and phenomenal service. Every server is a career opera singer. I cant say enough, but just to tell you this is a must come to place.
Cozy, elegant atmosphere with fantastic service. Not only is the wait staff really good at table service - they are opera singers too! Every 20-30 minutes, another song is introduced and sung. Extensive wine list. Tasty food. Great cocktails. Very entertaining!
Great atmosphere, great service, delicious food. We reserved a table for 2 and got the best seat in the house. Unfortunately, there was a large party of very loud women and we asked to be moved somewhere quieter. Waiters were very accommodating and even dedicated a performance to us. It was a very special night.
If you want to have a great dining experience, great food-service and atmosphere...this is the place Our server was Chase, student who is all in. Wonderful voice and excellent food recommendations. Remember not only top notch service but excellent singers as well. We were fortunate to see Roberto, Aliana and Chase perform. Bravo... don't worry pull up and valet park. Can it get any easier in Philly?
Food was delicious and the atmosphere fabulous. What's more, besides being super friendly, the waitstaff all have FANTASTIC voices! A lovely experience and I can't wait to return.
I was visiting from out of state to celebrate a birthday & was looking for an something special. This restaurant didn’t disappoint. The wait staff is all trained opera singers with incredible range and vocals. The staff was super attentive and very knowledgeable and friendly. The food was delicious and fulling. It’s definitely a restaurant worth the price of the meal!!
It was our first time, but it won't be our last. The food and service both . And the singing was superb. Dinner and a show, right. Exactly what we hoped for when booking flights from Austin to Philly for an anniversary dinner. The staff are all very attentive. Thank you so much for a fabulous evening 😘
Being from New York, I'm very particular about Italian restaurants.I was blown away. Everything from the soup, all the way to the dessert, was flawless. I was very impressed. I've never had great italian food outside of my home in New York. The singers were phenomenal. I highly recommend you go and spend a great night out. Thank You to the Victor Café for giving us a taste of home.
If the food and drink don't wow you (hint: they will), the singing servers most certainly will. A thrilling experience all around! Cocktails were served to perfection and apps, main dishes were reasonably proportioned.. all enjoyed while appreciating high quality operatic performances from the staff. Well worth the visit!
The waiters singing opera were absolutely lovely! The food was divine!!! The server was good and personable. The lounge upstairs was sweet. The two new bathrooms were bright, clean, and updated. The older bathroom was large but a bit dingy and needs to be updated. If you come in while waiters are singing, expect to wait (in silence) to be seated until they are finished. We will be coming back!
The most incredible dining experience I've ever had. From the drinks to the service to the food to the opera singing 100/10. We had the specials for the night, chicken cacciatore, lamb bolognese, espresso old fashioned, key lime pie martini and the pistachio torte and just chefs kiss.
Truly one of the best dining experiences I've have this year. I didn't know about the premise of the restaurant when I was invited and I was pleasantly surprised and the food was exquisite! Highly recommend and a huge shoutout to Renee you made our night👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
I had an amazing experience at this restaurant - it truly gave me an old-school Italian vibe. I highly recommend making a reservation to avoid a long wait, as it's a popular spot. The waitstaff were all incredibly talented and added to the ambiance by singing opera while we enjoyed our fantastic dinners. The pasta specials were phenomenal, and the cocktails were also top-notch. The only downside was parking - it's a bit of a challenge in the area, so be prepared to search for metered parking. Overall, I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a unique and unforgettable South Philly experience. Food. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Service ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Quantity ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Price. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Great experience and food as usual. Love stopping here and recommend for anyone looking for really great food in a very unique restaurant. The food is excellent and the wait staff are all classical trained opera singers and approx every 20 min a different person sings an amazing song.
Amazing food, amazing service, amazing atmosphere! We visited for dinner and had the best time. The servers are professional opera singers and they were a perfect compliment to the delicious food. The service was great and the restaurant truly felt like an authentic place. Highly recommend.
The Victor Cafe was a delicious South Philly Italian restaurant. In addition to the recurring operatic singing, a full bar menu is on offer plus a separate bar lounge upstairs. Service was excellent throughout and very attentive. The food itself was great, with fairly standard pasta offerings and tasty soup and bread. Would definitely come back if friends wanted to try it out. Also, get the espresso martini - it was outstanding.
Highly memorable birthday experience for my fiancee and I for her birthday dinner. I chose here for her birthday because she was a vocal major with opera experience, and I wanted to find a unique experience for us, this was just the spot. The food was pretty great overall. The arancini was far too delicious, crispy, and cheesy, the risotto was fantastic. I got a special that was, I think, was a braised beef shank with polenta. Gosh it was tender and super flavorful. The sauce/juice kept making me smile with each bite. My fiancee loved the crab and lobster stuffed ravioli that was on special that night too. We ended the night with panna cotta that was medium firm, excellent texture and super sweet cream flavor. I loved it. We also got mussels in spicy marinara sauce that missed the mark. The mussels were cooked to perfection, but the sauce wasn't spicy and I didn't think it really enhanced the mussels. We also got a pistachio tort that I wish had more pistachio presence, but it was tasty. We were fortunate to sit near where the servers sang, and it was such a cool experience. We enjoyed all of the performers but one woman was just astonishing. We were both moved by her. This was such a cool experience, great food and performances. It was a memorable night!
One of the best restaurant experiences I’ve had in the USA. I was In town overnight for the flower show with my best friend and we decided to check this place out. Everything from the spectacular food, friendly and knowledgeable, as well as classical opera-trained waitstaff ( who sing a song about every 20 minutes) was truly unforgettable. The ambience was typical of Italian bistro - quaint and cozy! The buratta was off the charts- I could’ve made that my main course. Enjoyed a nice bottle of dry red wine 🍷 with our meal. This place definitely does not disappoint- I’ll be back next time I’m in town. I regret not taking more photos inside. Thank you 🙏!!!
Wonderful restaurant where the staff sings arias from famous operas. As if the food wasn’t enough, the singers are lovely.
There are restaurants, and then there are experiences. Victor Cafe is definitively the latter. 🎶 Stepping into this Philadelphia gem is like walking onto the set of a classic film. The ambiance is pure old-world charm, but the true magic happens every 20 minutes. That’s when your server—a classically trained opera singer—pauses their duties, stands in the center of the room, and fills the entire space with a powerful, breathtaking aria. From Puccini to Verdi, the music wasn't just background noise; it was the heart and soul of the evening. The food was a perfect Italian masterpiece, the wine was flowing, but it was the soaring voices that truly nourished the soul. It’s more than a meal; it’’s a performance you’ll never forget. An absolute must-do in Philadelphia for anyone who loves music, culture, and unforgettable moments. #VictorCafe #Philadelphia #Opera #ItalianFood #MusicCity #PhillyEats #UniqueDining #HistoryMeetsDinner #RittenhouseSquare
Love this place!! We flew up for the day just to eat here. Well worth the trip. Great ambiance, delightful opera, scrumptious food, and delicious drinks!
Omg, 20 out of 10. We haven’t lived in the city long and took our first out of town guest with our two rowdy kids and it was amazing. The service was above and beyond - catering to both of our kids’ weird food quirks as well as substitutions on our dishes. Btw, for parents, they offer half sizes on the main dishes for kids. Service was so attentive on top of the wait staff performing live opera. The performances were jaw dropping amazing and the food delivered as well. My extremely picky Greek MIL actually finished her whole meal and took the extra sauce to go, which speaks volumes. Can’t wait to come back. ❤️👌
Every 10 to 15 minutes the waiters/waitresses sing operetta and it’s amazing. The food is superb always as well. It’s a favorite of my hubby and ours.
One of the best restaurant experiences! The food was amazing, the service second to none, and the ambiance was stellar!! The servers have the voices of angels, and their talent cannot be expressed with mere words.
A must-go in the city. The service and the music were excellent. The food was very good, with classic pastas and appetizers. Didn’t realize there was a bar upstairs which had great vibes. You can’t really hear the singers from upstairs, but would recommend stopping by for a drink if you did not get a reservation.
This is a unique Philadelphia treasure. Classic old school Italian dining that is reliably delicious. What makes Victor's one of a kind is the music. Pictures of figures from the history of Opera and classical music cover the walls. The servers, hosts and bartenders are all singers and will treat the room to beautiful performances throughout the evening. Truly a special place.
It’s become tradition to go here around the holidays. It’s a wonderful unique experience. We all love the food, the opera, the neighborhood memorabilia all over the walls, and the general ambience. During the holidays we love to walk one street over to the Miracle on 13th Street. They have valet parking but we’ve always been able to find a spot on Broad Street. Not cheap, but worth it for a special occasion. And not the most expensive either considering the quality.
Incredible dining experience from start to finish... The Victor knows how to do it right! Valet parking in South Philly?? The drinks are amazing. The wait staff are all incredible singers, and very attentive. Apps, entrees and desserts all very very good! Fantastic experience at The Victor!
I liked my pasta but my wife did not like her eggplant pasta. Also our other friend liked his food and kids liked their spaghetti. Calamari was nice. They have also non alcoholic beer. The waitress sang very nice opera music. They sang every 30 minutes. I like the authenticity of the place. Second floor was all about the rocky movies if you are a fan. It is a great place to spend some time. I suggest this place if you have visitors who want to see special Philly restaurant.
I asked for the ravioli and there were just like 5 or 6 of them :( and not really tasty, but my margarita was excellent and the beets salad as well. The reason I went is because I wanted to hear the singers 😍 they are amazing 👏🏽 it feels like in a private opera just for exclusive people 🤭. I loved that and because of that (even the high prices) everything was worthy ❤️. I wouldn't go occasionally but for the experience at least 1 time you definitely should go 👍🏽👍🏽
I had the opportunity to experience having dinner at this over 100 year old restaurant while visiting with family. The Victor Cafe Restaurant was a unique experience, during dinner while you eat every so often someone from the staff will sing Oprah. Also if you have a birthday the staff brings you out some cake and some of them will Oprah sing happy birthday. The staff here was very friendly and helpful with the menu as it was most of o first timers here.the restaurant was busy at the time we were here and seemed loud to me when we were trying to have a conversation other than when someone was singing. The tables also seemed very close to each other but were able to walk around the restaurant. The walls of the restaurant are covered in Oprah singes over the years. I had the Spaghetti Rusticana.,it was good but was not far from my favorite. I would come back here again in the future if I am in Philadelphia but if I lived here I wouldn’t be in a hurry to.
The Victor Café is a well known Italian restaurant after appearing in the Rocky films Balboa, Creed 1 and 2. In the movies, the restaurant is called Adrian’s Restaurant, named after the late wife of Rocky Balboa, owned by the Rocky character. If you’re a fan of the film series, visiting the restaurant is a must. At the back of the dining room, the painting from the end of Rocky 3 is displayed. The restaurant itself is interesting, with a louder atmosphere than I was expecting. I found the menu to be somewhat limited, food itself was ok. The place is also known for opera style singing during dinner. While this is a unique offering with talented server/singers, it is also a bit distracting and can be uncomfortable if you’re just trying to enjoy your meal. In any case, if you’re a Rocky fan, you definitely need to visit The Victor Café.
Fun atmosphere! The waiters stop for a few minutes to sing parts of operatic pieces. This is a good and authentic Italian restaurant with a long history behind it. It is crowded and noisy, but that is fairly common for restaurants in downtown Philadelphia. The wine menu is excellent!
Atmosphere is absolutely top notch and the vocalists performing are simply incredible. Our server great as well and the were great taking into consideration our sons allergies. The food was very good however, not quite online with the cost. I understand your paying for the atmosphere a bit but when the cost of it is built into the food which is the only way I can quantify the value of the food, it falls a touch short. Just a touch. Overall, I highly recommend The Victor Cafe. Entertaining and very good food.
A little loud and a little cramped. They sat us in an awkward spot in the middle of the restaurant close to another table in a half empty restaurant. The food was good, but nothing great. Same with the service. To me, the singing was a bit awkward and too frequent. I might be biased because I like food, not gimmicks, and the waitresses who were not the most attentive to begin with stopped serving completely when it was time to sing. I would not have eaten here had I known about the singing beforehand. The fried smelts were a nice dish that you do not see very often. Tasty fish with just the right amount of breading served with tasty dipping sauces. The clams casino was pleasant as well. The clams were a little large for casino in my opinion, but tasted fresh, were not chewy, and quite flavorful. Unfortunately the appetizers were better than the main course. The pork chop was okay. It was good-sized and a quality chop. However, the pork chop was served bland and a bit dry. There was too much juice on the plate that did not help or increase the moistness or the flavor. The chop was a tad overcooked. A unique experience that does not need to be revisited, at least by me.
I wish I could say nicer things about The Victor Café. The legacy is incredible and the food is decent, but my recent experience left a bad impression. When I made my reservation over the phone, I specifically asked if children were welcome, and the staff confirmed that they were. Upon arrival, we were even seated at a table with a highchair- clearly, they keep these on hand for families. However, halfway through our meal, I was approached by a waiter and told that I needed to take my child outside whenever a server was singing. I want to be clear: I completely understand that not every restaurant is kid-friendly, and I had dined at The Victor Café before having my child, so I know how their performances work. That’s exactly why I confirmed ahead of time that bringing my daughter would be acceptable. For context, she was 1.5 years old at the time and pretty well-behaved for her age. She was definitely noisy during food service but stayed mostly quiet during the performances, aside from dropping a fork and saying “uh oh” during a sustained rest, and some noise as we were being seated (which happened during a performance, but that timing was out of my control… perhaps they should consider not seating people during performances if they’re so concerned with distraction?). The attitude from the waiter when he told me to take my child outside was shocking. Even setting the tone aside, the request itself was completely inappropriate. I was mid-bite of a meal I had paid for, with a child whose presence had been explicitly approved. Overall, it was an incredibly disappointing experience.
The singing was wonderful and our server was lovely but the food was genuinely bad. Each of the 4 pasta dishes we ordered had a puddle of liquid at the bottom because the sauces were too watery and were not properly emulsified. I had never had a watery vodka sauce before coming here. All of the proteins we had were also overcooked. The arancini was the only thing we had that tasted decent.
Love the singing and the atmosphere. The dinner was terrible! We have been here before and all was good but this time all 4 of our meals were not good. Sooooo salty on some items and others there was no flavor. Pasta dishes were not drained properly so the seafood pasta was watery tasting. The pork chop and mashed potatoes were drowning in a lousy gravy and the mashed potatoes tasted like salt. Such a disappointment for such an expensive meal. I will say the desserts were good. We will not return.
