Great atmosphere and wonderful service at this roadside gastro pub. I had the Wednesday special beef on weck and it was fabulous. They accommodated our party of 10 beautifully. Highly recommended.

A hidden gem that will impress any date or meeting engagement. Perfectly done meals with a intimate setting. Plus meeting rooms and a nicely separated bar area that allows you to take in a game if you so choose as well.

The atmophere is wonderful, the service is excellent and the server was very nice and professional. The sevice was also very steady and the food was hot when we got it. The food was excellent and a great value. One of the best restaurants in the area. Will definitely be going more often.

We came in with a big group (and had reservations). They seated us immediately and were very friendly. The food took a while to come, but that was expected with our group size. Very good experience, and the food was yummy. No problems with our order.

Surprisingly delicious food for the location. One of the only places south of Rochester with delicious fresh seafood as well as perfectly cooked steak. Interesting atmosphere as it is housed in an old house with antique furniture and drapings. Good prices and stellar food.

Stopped here for dinner on our way to our son’s in Brockport. Food, service, atmosphere and price were all excellent. Will be our go to place going forward. Short drive from SUNY Genneseo! Make reservations for weekends.

Prime rib was next level! If you remember Conesus Inn and loved it, this is where you need to eat. Lobster tail was delicious as well.

I have never had a bad experience at this place. Food is always amazing, and the staff is awesome. The party next to us on New Year's Eve got a little loud and rowdy, but nothing bad enough for us to need to say something to the staff. Thank you!

Outstanding! Such wonderful flavor combinations. Everything was fresh, flavorful and cooked perfectly. Sevier was friendly. They were a little busy, but they kept the food coming. We loved it!

My family and I LOVED Yard of Ale. The care, kindness, and attentiveness of our server, Liz, was unsurpassed. The food was absolutely delicious--perfectly seasoned. I can't eat gluten and was brought the most delicious complimentary gluten-free rolls I've ever eaten. If we're ever in the area again, we will definitely be going back!

A delightful surprise in the GLOW Region countryside! Super friendly staff, exceptional food, creative specials, appetizers, and dessert. While admittedly a wee bit pricey for a casual drop in on a Saturday, it was indeed worth it with every mouth watering bite. We intentionally forced ourselves to stop eating our plentiful entrees and took home leftovers in order to leave room for the daily creme Brule ... again... worth it!! Reminiscent of fine dining in a historical resort setting we definitely recommend taking the drive (for next time we will take note that reservations are recommended).

Darling, comfortable ambiance with friendly, helpful, staff. There are 2 adjoined dining areas- bright, clean, and one private dining area with a long central table for a private event. We arrived when they opened(4:30)and were greeted at the door by a staff member. I suggest making reservations since every diningroom table was filled by the time we left, a few still opened in the tavern. There was also an outdoor terrace. Menu was plentiful, everything we had was delicious, homemade and nicely appointed. I recommend the Yard of Ale for a casual or intimate dining experience.

This was amazing! The food was incredible! Take the time to come here! We travel about 1hour every week and we try different places. This is by far one of the best places we have been. One of us had salmon - BEST salmon in the area. Chicken French was very good. Prime rib - one of the best we have had. Hamburger was just ok. Dessert was delicious! Atmosphere was very nice. Not to noisy even though the place was full.

I never leave reviews, however I feel like I have to for this restaurant. My family has been to The Yard of Ale a handful of times to celebrate birthdays, new jobs, or just to get together and have dinner. Each and every time we have had an exceptional experience! The food is outstanding, it has never left one of us feeling anything but pleased and satisfied. We often share our delightful bites with each other so we can experience more than one fantastic dish! And above that, the staff at The Yard of Ale is the most pleasant group to interact with. They’re super friendly, I mean they truly are the friendliest bunch….I’ve never seen anyone there that was unhappy. The servers are always prompt, they are courteous and they keep us fully satisfied without hovering. We’ve always been treated so well each time we’ve dined here and I cannot recommend this place enough!

Great food and lovely atmosphere at this local favorite! We called about an hour or so ahead for a table, and were thankfully seated quickly upon arrival. Even with the pandemic making everything crazy, they still had plenty of options on the menu. The brews on tap included a nice variety of beer styles that would appeal to most palates. The fresh clams that were the special were amazing!

Stumbled onto this place looking for a nice restaurant while staying at Conesus Lake. The food was Excellent, my filet mignon was to die for. My hubby had the shrimp with Italian sausage and angel hair pasta, he said it was amazing. Service was friendly and top notch . Then…chocolate molten cake… was the best ending. Decor is very Warm and inviting. We definitely will be back. 5 Stars for sure!

Coming back from our daughter’s home in Buffalo, we took the scenic route back and discovered this gem in the middle of farm country. Although it was late on a Sunday evening, and we told them we only wanted sandwiches and drinks, the staff here was warm and welcoming. My husband ordered the ahi tuna appetizer and my cousin and I split a huge burger with garlic mashed potatoes and a side salad. Not only is this place loaded with ambiance, but the food was excellent!! I don’t often write reviews, but I must say, I was impressed. We will definitely consider stopping back on our next trip through Piffard.

I have wanted to eat here for years and stopped on the way back from a business trip. It's quaint, charming, cozy and clean. The service was excellent. Prime rib was flavorful and done to perfection. French onion soup delicious. Homemade ice cream...save room!!

We stopped in here while visiting Letchworth State Park. It was about a 20 mins drive from where we were staying and this was one of the only places around with later dining hours on a Sunday evening. Our server Liz was excellent. There were a number of locals eating near us and she really knew them all. She took time to explain the menu and chat with us too. She seemed to genuinely be interested in all her tables and ensuring they enjoyed their experience. She helped us on the menu selections and drinks. I had the prime rib after seeing many reviews here and it was done perfectly and the potato smash was a good mix. My wife had the chicken french which was also quite tasty. Portions were good sized and still left room for dessert. Chocolate cake was great. Highly recommend stopping in here for dinner.

Had a late dinner at the Yard of Ale last night. It was excellent all the way around. The service was friendly and attentive. The food was super! I had the best cesar salad I have ever had. My husband and I have commented that we've never had a bad meal there!

K

Absolutely the best restaurant meal I've had in a very long time! Everyone is friendly and helpful. The beef is superior to what we've had at Red Osier. Both the prime rib and the filets were easily cut with a fork and seasoned perfectly. We had the stuffed mushrooms, the stuffing did not contain any fillers, just seafood. The only disappointment of the entire evening was the French Onion soup, it was bland and lacking in onions. We would highly recommend the Yard of Ale to anyone that wants a fabulous meal at a reasonable price.

Nice place for dinner! Food served hot and delicious as it should. Make reservations, this place fills up fast. Stumbled on this place this past summer and were impressed with the service, decor, and of course the food. We returned to celebrate our anniversary and we were not disappointed. Chicken French was served hot and plenty more to take home as well as the Shrimp and tortellini with Alfredo sauce. Highly recommended 👌.

We had a family birthday celebration, with 60 people, at Yard of Ale on October 6th, 2025. My first time there, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff was very helpful and made sure everything went smoothly. We used the room on the second floor, and thankfully they have a stair lift seat; one of the quests uses a wheelchair and a cane, and the lift made it possible for him to attend. On to the food - fantastic! Apps included bacon wrapped scallops, done perfectly, and very tasty. Also cheeses, veggies, dips, etc. The buffet choices selected had Chicken French (yum), Roast Beef au jus with a side of horseradish, green beans with some mushrooms and onion, mashed potatoes (I don't know how they were made, but very tasty, not bland), and pasta with sauce, which I did not try (my plate was full) that looked very good. As I said, my first time there - but not my last! We have already talked about going back again during regular dinner hours for some more great food. Thank you to everyone at Yard of Ale for helping to make our celebratory occasion a very special one!

We had such a wonderful experience at The Yard of Ale for our anniversary dinner! The chef went above and beyond to make their famous Swedish meatballs just for us (they had catered them at our wedding, and we’ve been dreaming about them ever since). They were every bit as amazing as we remembered! All of the food was fantastic, the service was warm and attentive, and the restaurant looked beautiful decorated for fall. It felt cozy, welcoming, and special, exactly what we hoped for. Thank you to the team for making our night so memorable!

Really enjoyed Yard of Ale. The menu is full of appealing selections and they had a good variety of specials on the night our group visited. The Calamari appetizer was delicious, we all enjoyed it. We were also all pleased with our dinners. The Chicken French was a big hit. Service is really good here. Our server was very friendly and attentive. Our dinners were served promptly, we didn't have to wait a long time, which we appreciated. We also really enjoyed the warm and inviting atmosphere here. Plenty of parking here. Overall, Yard of Ale checked all our boxes and provided a pleasant experience in every way. Look forward to dining here in the future. Check it out, we think you'll like it too.

The yard of ale is a older resturant which is comfortably designed from the inside and out. White linnen tablecloths provide an elegant atmosphere along with hooks which are lined up next to the tables to hang coats or sweaters. The bar area has wooden heavy tables as well as booths to sit at. It was a busy New Years Eve the evening we dined. We had to wait no more than 5 minutes for our table to be ready so we headed to the bar to order a yard of ale. I highly reccomend the dub light. It was perfect ice cold with a hint of smokiness to add to the flavor. Both the bar tender and the hostess were kind enough to help me with the yard of ale since it's large and can be awkward to carry with out spilling. Service was both promp efficient and friendly exspecially since it was an extremely busy evening and all tables were taken. Our server greeted us with a smile and started by informing us what the specials were for the evening. We started with the delicious warm hand made bread ( a nice amount) which accompanied the meal and came with 5 different dipping sauces. Ever so delicious. The appetizer of choice and one which I highly reccomed is the fried dilled spears. Once again a nice portion to share not greasy but batter coated and fried just right. The dipping sauce was a creamy pepper one which was a perfect match for the spears. I also ordered a small cup of French onion soup which was one of the best soups I've had. The broth was anything but bland instead a nice amount of onion and cheese which completed the base. Entree of choice and comes highly recommended is the Chicken Maryland. A chicken breast stuffed with crab and broccoli with the right amount of hollandaise sauce provided without making the chicken taste soggy. The outside crust added to the chicken was crispy and delicious. The garlic smashed potatoes couldn't have tasted better nice chunky potatoes with a hint of garlic. And last but least the vegetable melody which accompanied the entree was made with fresh veggies and tasted like summer. I highly recommend the yard of Ale. It will not disappoint. Thank you Yard of Ale I'm looking forward to my next visit. Check web site for hours and days the resturant is opened. Reservations a must!

Great meal. Appetizer of fried risotto balls and good sauce was superb. Strip steak was not restaurant quality though, a little tough. Wife had the short ribs, mashed potatoes and fresh corn relish. Excellent. Definitely going back. A hidden gem. Our waitress was super and efficient. Five star lady.

Excellent food and service. I had blackened chicken for Dinner. It was spicy but great for anyone who likes a bit of a kick. Very good paired with one of the many cocktails offered. My husband had the prime rib. He said it was cooked just right. Would highly recommend for a nice dinner.

Terrific service!! Excellent meal!! Had the Tempura Shitake Deep Fried Mushrooms with a Sesame Ginger Sauce and entrees were spot on. One complaint was we sat down to the table the glasses were dirty and unpolished water was still poured and served in them anyway.

Food was very good except for the Maryland Chicken which my friend had. He said it was quite fishy tasting and he didn't even finish it. Both he and I have had this dish in the past and it's always been good, so perhaps it was just an off night for the chef.

One of the best prime ribs I have ever ate. Good beer selection you can get by the yard (large glass boot shaped cup thing). Tuna was also wonderful, and a wide array of great appetizers one of my favorites with a wait staff the gives extra to make sure you enjoy your meal

I thought the Yard of Ale was very good overall. I had the chicken French as my main. It was very good. Had a very good sauce on it. The chicken itself was very good texture. Thought it was very unique to have artichokes on top of it, was a very nice touch though. My only criticism would be the size of the salad. Maybe it was just me, but I thought the size of it was just a little too big for my taste, especially with how much comes with the main, or with my main ( a veg, side and two pieces of chicken.) Again overall was very good, just that one thing.

J
Jennifer

The place is beautiful, the beer was cold. I'm sure the food is great we just picked wrong we all tried out of our comfort zone and weren't happy with or choices. The bread and the appetizers were awesome. The salads were large and fresh. We will be back. I want to try the prime rib! 😋

M

Food was good but service was iffy. Server seemed to question my wife's judgement when she said her filet was overcooked. She had ordered medium rare and it was served medium well. Also ordered wine to go with my entree and it did not arrive until I was nearly finished with my meal.

T

Food was decent but a bit overpriced for the presentation and atmosphere. Service was friendly but not polished. My dinner guests were very pleased with the quality of their dishes. Overall pretty good for the area of you don't want to drive to Rochester.

The Chef needs to up his game. Artichoke appetizer mushy with the french sause( chopped). The mashed potatoes were gelatinous. Dinner salads with brown lettuce. Disappointed!

Expensive. We went on Easter hoping to order from the tavern menu we saw online. Being Easter, they had a limited menu. The food was good, but over-salted. I think we were seated in what served as the staff's hallway. The place wasn't busy, but the staff traffic was constant. The staff was attentive. The portion size was generous. The prices were too high. Wouldn't put too much stock in a holiday experience. The locals seem to love this place for special occasions; it came highly recommended.

S
Sharon West

Food is good, service generally is. Bring your cash because they are illegally charging a convenience fee for using a card which is unwelcome addition to the bill and illegal in New York State per section 518. Service fees are allowed, per the receipt this was a convenience fee.... no confusion on my part.

G
Gary Cauffman

Our first time here with friends that are i would say are regulars. Staff was amazing and very attentive. Overall atmosphere was very nice. We were seated in the bar area which was noisy but then again that's what one would expect in those surroundings. Prices were way to high for the portion size as well some of the meals we ordered. Quality was average. We understand that the cost for dining out are higher all over. We all want the most and best for our money. My wife and I will try it again sometime in the future. Maybe on a different day or at a different time to give them a second chance.

H
HENRI B (FishingDaddy123)

I was very disappointed in the prime rib. There was way to much fat left on the meat almost half the cut on the plate was fat. Not good when you sell it by the ounce. No crust on it either. French onion soup was tasty but way to salty. No need to add that much salt to a soup. I really wanted to love this restaurant but I don't know if we will be back. For the cost of dinner I just expect more.

We came in as a part of 5 around 8:00. We are staying nearby in Conesus Lake for a family vacation. The hostesses were super nice, but our server acted like we were inconveniencing her. She was so grumpy and never once smiled. My maple Dijon salmon was so undercooked I didn’t eat it. It looked like they squirted mustard over the top of it. The vegetables were soggy and seemed like they came from a bag of frozen veggies. My husband liked his steak and we really enjoyed the bread and beer selection. Disappointing overall experience.

Michael Davis

I ordered the Blackened Scallops and so did my brother-in-law. My wife ordered the Blackened Prime Rib. Both of the Blackened dishes had way too much seasoning on them, and I like lots of seasoning. The chef could use half the amount of seasoning and it still would be too much. Everything else was wonderful and delicious, but way way too much seasoning dude !

Shannon Rinehart

Nice atmosphere, it's an historic old house. The breads were great and the salad was good, but my entrée was very bland and in my opinion a bit pricey not only due to lack of flavor, but the proportion and very small amount of shrimp as well. Our server was nice but not very motivated- she did not check on us often, and in the beginning made an announcement making sure we all knew it was cash bar ( we were a party of about 16) and that we could order alcoholic drinks from her if we really wanted to, but that she recommended us going over to the tavern part and doing it ourselves instead.

Thought I was on candid camera but it was real life. Lets prime this story with the website which calls itself upscale and fine dining. We initially are sat at a table directly against a wall, and in the middle of the room; people bumping into us and trying to squeeze past the table. We were eventually switched to another table, however we were shivering now as the A/C was on in 45 degree weather. Not a big deal- we are from Buffalo. We get some bread, 2 bite size pieces and some frozen butter. 15 minutes later we are able to place our drink order and to save time we also place our whole order. We ordered: an old fashioned, glass of Chardonnay, clams casino, prime rib, and a tortellini shrimp Alfredo. Enter our drinks; cant mess up wine. The “old fashioned” though was served in a juice glass with an entire orange slice, a cherry from the Charcoal Corral and an entire sugar mine on the bottom; another 15 minutes and a Wegmans salad later, we are asked how everything is. We don’t want to make a scene so we hand back the “old fashioned” and order a double of bulleit bourbon with a splash of ginger. In comes the same glass with ginger ale. We state our problem and it is “rectified” with a shot of bourbon in a candle holder. We get our food and the great barrier reef of salt is served under our clams casino. Uncooked vegetables from Wegmans or Sysco with the prime rib and pasta with shrimp tails still attached. $104 dinner. Waitress comes again and drops the mints on the floor, says “sorry” and gives them to us. Charged an additional fee which is not mentioned anywhere, but honestly for this trip in Disney World I would too. Oh and by the way, the hostess or the owner was slamming the same old fashioned I was served.

I've been cooking from scratch since 7, dined in many fine establishments. Here's my critique: a 1 for the garden salad basically lettuce, w/1 grape tomato, 1 cucumber sliver & 1 bell pepper sliver, why not at least double each, add shredded carrots, diced apple, pickled red onion, offer a local NY made cheese and homemade dressing? The bread/warm pretzel bites w/3 spreads? The pretzels bites were yummy. The butter, olive and plain olive oil? The oil could be seasoned w/a warm roasted local NY garlic, fresh herbs, cracked pepper otherwise the oil isn't desirable. We sat at 6:45, it took over 30 minutes for a table of 2 to receive our salad w/no appetizers ordered. From the time we sat to dinner served? 85 minutes later my cider was no longer cool to drink with meal, only one acknowledgement that our dinner was coming out soon after sitting for an hour. And after the table of 6 next to us had been flipped once and another 6 sat and was served drinks and hot appetizers before our dinner?! My Tournedos was the worst I've ever had as they are normally a thick cut of filet not thin. I wasn't served 8 oz of filet (2 of 4oz) as the $39 menu claimed and the hollandaise, wasn't skillfully made. The garlic mash side was too thick didn't taste freshly made, not hot enough to enjoy and the flash frozen veggie medley wasn't fresh, the broccoli looked perfectly blanched yet tasted like the squash parts. I brought a dinner date who was excited to taste the Scallops Alfredo he saw online, only to see it wasn't listed on the menu w/ disappointment. I requested it be made for him, being a favorite dish, it was truly the best I've tasted in a long time. It gets a 4 rating, they should've offered a fresh cracked peppercorn or freshly grated parm cheese to add for finishing touch, extra flavor and garnish with fresh parsley. At the end, we never complained we just laughed and spoke of the other places we could've gone. I think we were approached by either the manager or owner once but at that point I wasn't going to say one word as "we care about your experience" boat had already sailed. Later when I couldn't finish my dinner and just asked to take it home, the waitress insisted on offering complimentary desserts to even take home at least they knew they had blown it. I opted for a second chance tasting, hoping it would redeem the experience as I'm embarrassed by now w/my guest who drove an hour for dinner. Instead? They were horrible. The worst molten lava cake I've ever tasted. It had a drier chalk texture & taste, obviously warmed in a microwave, huge no no, the ganache center should be a warm truffle to melt in the mouth but wasn't, just a little liquid & missing a warm chocolate sauce. The fruit cheesecake? tasted old. For a restaurant w/high prices they under delivered. Suggestion: Offer desserts made from scratch and take pride in offering them or don't at all, I could make each one at home and shame you w/ the results. My bill was $102 for only 2 dishes, 2 beers and one cider with free comped desserts. Their coffee was perfect, but that just makes this review well, sad and disappointing as my gratitude dinner for my friend felt more insulting. He was the one who watched the table of 6 flipped while we were ignored. Later we're told with apologies by the waitress the number of large party tables they were serving, the party of 18, 16 (actually listed the 5 numbered groups) that apparently were more important than all the small table guests. Any restaurant that's been in business for their length of time should know how to handle this situation without sacrifice and ignoring tables waiting for their meal. To offer another round of bread to your starving guests, so we fill up on carbs and barely have room to hardly eat or enjoy our meal? So no, I won't be returning. The exterior of the restaurant is beautifully perfectly decorated and makes you think you are about to have the best dining experience, not the case. They leave much room for improvement!

Here’s your Google review with your original insults intact while keeping it impactful: ⭐ 1 Star The woman on the phone this Saturday (2/1/25) was horrible and extremely unprofessional! I called to ask about specials because of dietary restrictions for my reservation, and she first told she was booked assuming I didn’t have reservations then left me waiting on hold for 10 minutes—because she didn’t know and claimed she would grab someone but never did—because she never intended to! I know this because I heard her grabbing the phone to check if I was still waiting twice before she hung up. Ten minutes she waisted with this shenanigans. What a low human. Guess who won’t be showing up for their reservation now? I’ve been coming here for years, and if this is the new standard is very low, she is not up for the job. If you don’t like what you do find a different job!

Just save the money and go to the lumber yard instead. My fiancé and I work long hours and had a rough day so I decided to make reservations to the yard of ale,we have ben a few time before and never had a bad experience there. The reservation were for 7:30 we walk in at 7:20. We didn’t get our food until 9 PM and in that span of a hour and half our waitress only check on us once. Nothing was ever said to us about longer wait time or apologized for the wait. We had to ask the other waitresses to get our drink after 20 minutes of putting our order in. The best part is I order the special of a bison steak on lobster mash potatoes and it came out cold and my fiancé order salmon that we make better at home. For a bill of over a $100 I will just go anywhere else. WE WIll not be back

By far the worst dinner I've had in years. $42 WAGU steak. Way over cooked. Brought it to the servers attention they offered a free desert. Drove 70 miles 2 birthdays in our group. Will never go back. If i wanted a birthday dessert my wife would bake me a cake. Dont waste your time with this place. First review i have ever written. Hopefully my last

I’ve been there many times and it was OK, but nothing memorable. The group made reservations there, so I called to ask about the especiais. The woman on the phone this Saturday (2/1/25) was horrible and extremely unprofessional! she left me waiting on hold for 10 minutes… she didn’t know what was the especial. Then she claimed she would grab someone but never did—she never intended to! I know this because I heard when she hung up. She couldn’t care less about the customers. I was rude right back. There is another place very delicious in Calendonia and I’m taking my business there, nice, responsible, polite people. Guess who won’t be showing up for their reservation now? I’ve been coming here for years, and if this is the new standard, it is very low.
