Best food in Bay Area! Friendly staff and they never disappoint. Highly recommended!

This place takes the charm and love of New Orleans comfort food and makes it available to Bay Area Residents. I’ve been to their Castro Valley Location and this one is just as great. Family owned both locations. My fav is crab cajun fries but a go to of mine is always the jambalaya.

I previously rated Southern comfort kitchen a 4 star but had to come back and change it to a 5 after going back there multiple times and having outstanding food and service every time. Would absolutely recommend.

In the Bay Area it’s really hard to replicate authentic southern food… but for this restaurant, win-win chicken dinner! I got the 50/50 w/Cajun fries. All items; Shrimp, crawfish, and Cajun fries were cooked/seasoned the right way. Shout out to the chef. I also got their brown sugar lemonade! So impressed with the flavor. Probably a bunch of sugar but the sugar that doesn’t feel guilty. Highly recommend!

Not an expert in southern cuisine, but loved the strong old bay seasoning on the perfectly cooked Cajun rice and simplicity of the fresh and plentiful crab Cajun fries.

Passed by not knowing anything about the place so I turned around and gave them a try since im sountern and wanted some southern food. Loved my fried catfish and Cajun fries, I tried the brown sugar lemonade which is good.. a bit different but definitely a try. Hushpuppies outer shell is good just seems to corn mealy on the inside. All and all give them a try definitely a good spot with friendly staff.

Great tasting food. The fries with crab meat were worth the trip alone. A must stop if you're in the Pleasant Hill area. I plan on making this a regular place to eat.

Fries are so good and so is their catfish. Order the seafood platter it is expensive but plating is unique and tasty. Definitely shareable for two. Place is clean as well and friendly service.

Very busy on a Sunday at lunchtime, but kitchen seemed to be keeping up and people were patient in line. We have been wanting to try this place for a while and had to wait to go on a Sunday to get beignets! Worth the wait. We had our puppy with us so we are outside and thankfully it was easy to find a place. Most people seemed to be getting food to go. We will definitely be heading back. We bought: brussel sprouts, hush puppies, red beans and rice, jambalaya, crab Cajun fries, and beignets!!

Listen if you have not stop by for a nawlins experience and Flava in pleasant Hill you BIGGGGG SLEEP! I recommend the shrimp in grits and the catfish! She has protected this dish to definitely wanna slap somebody 😆 but notice I didn't say yo mama! Just tell them thick grits not runny or soupy please. The staff aims to please! They felt they took too long in getting our food and desert was on them! Chullllle that bread pudding 🍮 😋 makes you wanna fight like that brown liquor did you back in our clubbing days! I dare you to try it!!! I'll definitely be back! I feel we need this restaurant in Brentwood California!

My brother and I ate there for the first time late last night and from the beginning to the end of our time there Sean (Restaurant Manager) provided over the top service!!! We enjoyed our food, but even if the food was subpar I would still return based on his ultimate service! He made a huge impression on us! May the Lord bless the business 🙏🏽. Sean thank you and I will be back! 👌🏽🍽️👌🏽

So excited for this place. The style of fast food and yet like you are at grandmas house serving sizes. Jambalaya was flavorful with tender chicken and to die for sausage. Cajun fries are delicious. Try the gumbo and the brown sugar lemonade. Thanks staff <3

Really good portion sizes. Worth the price! The crab fries were 16 when i went and they were Generous with the crab and fries. I got to-go for the concert happening in the plaza and was the envy of everyone there. Great experience getting this food and was delicious. The people there were very kind free refills on the tea which was refreshing. The fries were a bit salty though . They deserve more than 4.1 stars fersure

My food was excellent. The representative that helped me name. Junior was very helpful and I appreciate his help. I asked for my fish to be fried extra crispy and the Cook did exactly that and it was perfect and the shrimp was delicious. Thank you. The fries were just OK, but that’s expected

Yall... when I tell you this food was SO good... FLAVOR BABY! The PERFECT aldente Mac n cheese. INCREDIBLE thin battered crispy coated catfish with perfectly cooked flaky juices insides. Hushpuppies were amazing w/ the sauce. Fries had awesome flavor but just ok texture. Jambalaya was delicious but to be honest it was kind of cold so maybe they plated it too early but the flavor was great. It was a bit of a drive, over an hour away to get here but i will absolutely be back as soon as possible. I'm tellin EVERYBODY about this place. Spend your money here. You will NOT be disappointed. 💯

I recently traveled to New Orleans for the first time and I loved the food. And when I returned home I was so excited to learn that there was a restaurant nearby where I could get jambalaya. I got to say this jambalaya is delicious. I also got macaroni and cheese and some Cajun fries with some sweet tea. I asked one of the employees if it was real sugar or sweetener and he said it was the good stuff. Real sugar. Truly was impressive. The taste of New Orleans is in my backyard. The portions were huge and the taste was authentic. I will definitely be coming back.

Let me tell you, this restaurant had me feeling like I just stepped into New Orleans! Pure perfection from start to finish! The food? The world Incredible doesn’t even begin to cover it. We're talking authentic Creole cuisine, the kind that had me reminiscing about being in my late grandmother's kitchen, hitting that sweet spot in my soul. Every bite was an experience. I mean, those hush puppies? Fire. The seafood platter? Let's just say, it's my new obsession. And the bread pudding? Absolute bliss. You could taste the love and culture in every dish, knowing these were family recipes passed down like priceless heirlooms. It’s so rare to find that level of authenticity in every bite. Oh, and the vibes? Immaculate. From the music to the warm, inviting atmosphere, this place knows how to set the scene. Perfect spot for family, friends, couples, or a solo treat because when the food is this good, sometimes you just need that “me” time. Trust me, I'll be back! — Quania Jones

The best food around representing New Orleans Southern food. We used them for a house warming party, and one of the owners/brothers came with the catering truck. Guest still rave about their food. The number one dishes our family and friends complimented on is the catfish and brussel sprouts. Highly highly recommend 👌 👍

Yummy yummy yummy. I have lived in Arkansas and Georgia. Visited New Orleans, Florida, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Alabama. Southern food varies and this joint offers solid flavor, generous portions, and a clean and inviting atmosphere. Ordered: - fried chicken sandwich A+ - Cajun loaded fries A++ - chicken and sausage gumbo B+ The gumbo was good but Im not a gumbo fan. I will absolutely return to try other menu items including the Sunday bignets.

Passed by the place by accident and was glad we ordered some for pickup. Mac and cheese was delicious, pasta still had a bite to them, not just mush. Cornmeal breading on catfish was tasty and catfish po'boy order was packed without tomatoes, as requested. Crab fries was tasty too, full of shredded real crabmeat with cajun fries at the bottom. Shrimps were fully peeled for the 50/50 order. Not a fan of the hush puppies, the crispyness was yumm but the inside just tastes like cornmeal. Would love to try their beignets if we're in the area on a Sunday. Edit: A year later, still our go-to spot when we're in the area. Tried their blackened shrimp and grits, was not disappointed, absolutely yummy. Husband enjoyed his fried chicken sandwich, it's a generous 2 pieces of chicken in the sandwich.

Was a bit hesitant based on the lack of reviews here, but boy should I have got to Southern Comfort sooner! Got the Crab Cajun Fries to-go and they were absolutely unreal. Animal Style Fries? Never heard of her. The Mac and Cheese was a great deal and a strong side dish option. Don’t wait any longer, get to this place now! I’ll be back soon to grab a Hurricane on tap!!

Food was good.Ordered the crawfish etouffee, it tasted better than it looked. It had a good taste, wasn't spicy so had to add hot sauce. The vibe was very relaxing, not too loud. Would definitely return, it was a pleasant experience. Will try the poboy since that was recommended from a friend.

Nice ambience. The prints reminds me of NOLA. The food was okay. I had the po boy oyster sandwich, Brussels sprouts, red beans and rice, and shared an order of beignets. For the best southern food, go to New Orleans and be sure to try the freshly fried beignets from Cafe du Monde, the original location, the one in the French Quarter. I appreciate that this restaurant is trying but I would definitely switch out the rice used in the red beans and rice. Something about the rice was off. It seemed more like Asian rice, but can’t pinpoint it. The hurricane was more like a Slurpee. Again, they are making an effort. The bread was so soft and fresh - loved - and was great for the sandwich. I will definitively try this restaurant again. It is located in a great area of Pleasant Hill and there is plenty of seating both in and outdoors. This is sister restaurant to the one in Castro Valley and food truck in San Francisco.

Stopped by last weekend to try the beignets and was not disappointed. They were delicious! Enough for three people really. I only had one and took the rest to go. Also ordered a side order of green beans that was delicious! Very much worth the trip over. I was a little surprised they were out of coffee. And I was very surprised when I ordered iced-tea that they were out of sugar. If they're not going to wait on people at their table, they need to provide trays for people that are eating there, so they can carry their food and drink with them. Also, I understand it might not make sense to brew a fresh pot of coffee each hour if they don't have enough people ordering that to make it worthwhile. They might think about getting a single-serve machine for tea/coffee for odd customers like me. It doesn't have to be the best coffee in town. Also, they might have some sugar or stevia packs available for people who drink iced-tea. I don't think there's a lot of people that drink iced-tea unsweetened. Other than that though, it was a very good meal.

Por boy shrimp sandwich was excellent, but the deep fried osters were burnt. I want to try the beignet but only available Sundays.

The only -1 star is because of the prices. Right in the middle of downtown Pleasant Hill will do that to you. But if you can ignore the price, this place was pretty good for being in a “trendy” category. I can’t attest to it tasting as “authentic” as real southern comfort food, but it was damn good. Their brown sugar lemonade was excellent. The fried catfish was great. And their po’boys were also very good. We liked the jambalaya as well. Everything we got was good. The least good thing were their Cajun fries. A bit lackluster compared to others I’ve tried. But still good. I will most likely be coming here again.

Would rate the food higher except for way too much salt. Whoever is setting the salt quantities needs to reset their palate. Good shrimp poor boy. Super salty red beans and rice, good value

The Shrimp PoBoy and the Catfish PoBoy were delicious, a little messy to eat but delicious. Would recommend using a bigger bread roll to hold the sandwich contents. We were there on a Sunday morning, not sure what happened the day before. Couldn’t order coffee because they were out. Both taps on the fountain machine were out of coke. They also ran out of napkins, I took the last three from the dispenser. The beignets were tough and chewy. I was expecting them to be fluffy and light. The bread pudding was too sweet. It would have paired nicely with a hot mug of coffee. I’d recommend ordering the food to-go and enjoying it with hot mug of coffee at home.

Love the southern atmosphere here, with all the vintage photo and posters! Gumbo was a bit on the salty side and jambalaya was a bit dry 😂 while the blacken cod was really nice!

Been wanting to try Southern Comfort for awhile because I love cajun food! Finally got there for an early dinner with a friend. I had the brussel sprouts, which were good but too sweet for me - too much maple syrup and I thought they needed some acid and heat for balance. Now the crab cajun fries, delicious! Next time I'll get some extra sauce for the "naked" fries on the bottom layer. Grabbed an order of the crawfish etouffee to take home and it was very flavorful with a good kick of spice. This is an order at the counter and pick it up style restaurant. You can also order online and pick up. The staff are all helpful and friendly. I'll be back to try other items.

I had shrimp & grits ($13) and Brussels sprouts ($6) - tasty but surprised that grits came out approx room temperature (vs warm/hot since I did wait 15 minutes for it). My friend ordered a chicken sandwich with Cajun fries ($13 + 3); told that the chicken sandwich was just OK, Cajun fries were seasoned as expected. The dining room set up is nice and the menu is pretty clear. I took 15 minutes for my food to come out and closer to 20 minutes for the chicken sandwich (on a Wednesday at lunch).

Nice take on creole food. the chicken fried sandwiches had two pieces on each sandwich, jambalaya was spiced nicely but kind of felt short changed on the meat for the chicken and sausage. hush puppies were good but $8 for six (2 bite) Hush Puppies kind of felt like a little bit excessive. overall all the food was really good though including the homemade lemonade. Jr. Was an amazing host.

Galling to spend so much and end up throwing the food in the trash, but it was inedibly salty. We’d had a bad experience a year ago and decided to give them a second try because we love New Orleans food.

Honestly awful. The fried stuff probably ain't bad but that's cause it's fried. Everything is just kind of in pots where it's cold and not fresh at all. I had the jambalaya and the Crawfish Étouffée which are staples but the jambalaya was cold and had no meat and tasted of only tomato. The chicken was dry ( how is that possible in something so much like stew) all the food came out cold which was a shame. Maybe southern food in california is not the move. The crayfish etouffe was just pepper and didn't taste like anything. The rice had been out so long that it had started to harden. Brussel sprouts were burnt to hell as well. Looks really pretty , tastes really bad.

In a word, "Disappointing". Having been to New Orleans fairly recently, I was excited to try this place. We did takeout since it was the Art & Wine festival downtown, and I know takeout is never as good. That all being said, we ordered a Shrimp Poboy, Blackened Shrimp Poboy, side of cajun fries, and an appetizer of Brussels sprouts. The sandwiches were decent. The shrimp was well cooked, which was good, but otherwise they weren't super exciting or even super flavorful. Each sandwich was extra 6 shrimp. And ... that's where the good news ends. We didn't get our brussels at all, so I'd recommend you triple check everything in your order before walking out. Also the fries were... sad. They looked like they came out of a bag and were about as "cajun" as a hipster barista Portland. To be clear, I've had more spicy fries from McDonalds. I'll probably try it again. But it was disappointing.

The jambalaya here is good, but I was turned away by the counter lady saying “We’re not taking any more walk-ins”. I wanted to place a takeout order and it was just over 30 mins before closing(6:30pm on a Sunday). Not sure why they close so early before their listed closing time.

I went with my family today, and the quality of the fry fish was not good. It didn't smell fresh, and the pieces were small. I mentioned to the waitress, and she gave me another pieces, were just coming out, and still not much difference. Fish goes bad, if is not keep store in a cold and not fir long. Also the jambalaya was not cook the way is been done in rhis place. The bathroom out of toilet paper, toilet seats cover, no soap. This place was so much better before, now I don't recommend it, it has change for the worst.

I had to come check the reviews for this place after buying some dinner here. Sadly, I just paid $18 to pick up the seafood gumbo "main dish." I've worked in food service so I understand setting weight limits on food, but this is really setting the bar low. I weighed it at home just for the heck of it because the bag felt so light, and I was given 10oz of soup, on the dot. It sounds delicious on the menu, but it has one piece of fish in it and a few tiny shrimp. The rest is water weight. This has to just be management trying to save money. The entire restaurant was completely empty at almost 6pm, and the whole place smelled like cleaning chemical. I guess I can see why folks weren't dining in. And, like someone else commented, there was waaaay too much salt in the Seafood Jumbo. I need to open it up with my own beans and rice to make it more edible. Sorry to leave a bad review, but this place must be going under to overcharge for tiny portions like this.

Visited this location on Saturday. My Mother ordered the shrimp and grits, I ordered the 50/50 and we shared the crab fries. The grits are soupy and uncooked, with absolutely no Cajun flavoring. I don't get any type of Southern feel. When my mother tried to return the grits, she was met with a young manager who stated he was the regional manager for all three locations, he turned out to be the owners son. His tone with my mother was very rude. Hopefully they fix the flavors it seems a little culturally appropriated.

Service was great, food was not good at all. We come from the Gulf Coast and this does not taste like any New Orleans food from the south. The sweet tea was bad. The crawfish etouffee has no spice, almost tasted like it was canned. The crawfish tails disintegrated as soon as you put it in your mouth, felt nasty. The breading on the fried catfish was good but missing seasoning. The fried shrimp was slightly over fried but not bad. The one thing that had plenty of seasoning were the Cajun fries. We probably won’t try this place again, but wish them well. I guess our taste buds are just used to southern style Cajun food with seasoning.

I've been here a few times and the food was fresh and delicious but when I went on 8/30/2025 I was really disappointed. The gumbo tastes like it came from a can and the jambalaya was very dry.

The Jambalaya was the worst I had. It was gummy and literally had one piece of chicken in it. Too much Cajun seasoning there was nothing southern about this food. Maybe I should have purchased fish or chicken. This was my first time eating there and my last. I’m from the South and this is absolutely not the way we cook down south. I called about the food and the answer I received was, “I wasn’t here this morning.” I threw it in the trash where it belonged. Suggest you do not order online but order in person. Must be a different part of the South they are from.
