We had had some pretty hit or miss experiences with steakhouses in Portland as of late, so when my husband asked for steak for his birthday dinner I was feeing the pressure on where to go. Laurelhurst had popped up on my searches several times and for some reason I never chose it - well that was different this time and it glad. Service here is great - attentive and cordial! The ambience feels both relaxed but also refined - great for a chill lunch or a birthday celebration. Their menu is expansive but focused. All in all the vibes here are great. We ordered their scotch cocktail, hangar steak, ribeye, cowboy caviar, and kids steak & frites. It was all incredible - the sauce that comes with the hangar was the surprising hero! We also tried their cheesecake and chocolate mousse - also incredible. I’m kicking myself for having spent 9 years in the Portland area and just now coming. This will definitely be a staple spot when we want to go out for steak.

We had great food and great service. Nice little classic cocktails. Definitely spendy but definitely quality. You get what you pay for. Didn't get a great table but we also didn't make a reservation that's on us. You could tell it was about ready to get really busy and they had a good handful of reservations. So I would probably recommend making a reservation just to ensure you get a good table. Don't get me wrong. There's not really any bad seats. We were just really close to the kitchen and the light was shining right in my face. Again, we were just a walk-in and we were glad to just get a spot.

This is a great date night or special occasion place, and also a solid lunch choice if you need a break from digging for vinyl at music millennium. The sandwiches are a love letter to your stomach without being precious. The steak Caesar salad is difficult to not order every single time I'm grabbing lunch. For dinner, let the staff guide you. You might go in with a plan, and then completely abandon the idea of steak based on the rhapsodic praise your server gives the pork chop as their current favorite with no hesitation. I think it's impossible to go wrong here. Everything is elevated and well executed without pretense.

This place was amazing. We all had the hanger steak and they all were cooked as we ordered. Flavor profile for the steak itself was delicious. The tahini flavor paired well with the steak. Sides were amazing and to compliment, the drinks were refreshing. Specifically the old fashioned and veridis quo. Will be coming back for reservations next week.

We went for a business anniversary dinner. We ordered many things and shared, including the $155 ribeye. Many of the dishes were amazing, the 32oz ribeye, unfortunately was good, not great. The salads were delicious, and the desserts were also really good. The service was decent, just a little bit lagging here and there but decent. The only disappointment was the steak, and it wasn’t bad, just didn’t “wow” me. Will definitely go back again.

Awesome dinner spot! Had the shishito peppers, steak frites, and the house made ice cream. The sweet corn ice cream was a little too corny for me, but every other dish was executed wonderfully. I’d recommend the razzmatazz cocktail for a refreshing drink!

Sit at the bar! I went for dinner by myself and happened to end up learning things about the menu and trying some delicious egg nog desert beverage all from the bartender. The steak and greens salad was ABSOLUTELY amazing.

We very much enjoyed our lunch here. We ordered a salad and a sandwich and split both. It was a good thing we were hungry, because we probably could have just split one of them and had plenty of food. If you are looking for plain, bland food, this is not your place. There was lots of fun and tasty food combinations just in the two meals we ordered. The only minor issue we had was with our sandwich: we asked for the mayonnaise to be put on the side of the sandwich. They left the mayo off the sandwich, but forgot to put it on the side. I went back and ask for it on the side, which they readily and quickly accommodated. There is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating here. We sat in a large tent covered, deck area that was a nice combination of being out of the sun, but not being inside. I would definitely come back here for lunch. Thanks for the tasty meal!

This steakhouse has some incredible meat! The beef tartar was some of the best I've had. Crispy calamari was cooked perfectly; not chewy, breading not overpowering. I went with a New York, friend went with the ribeye. My new York came cooked to perfection (medium rare) and was incredible. My friends ribeye was amazing too. It had a silky buttery flavor behind it that was something special. Our server was exceptional and I feel bad for not remembering her name to put in this review. Never asked how food was when our mouths were full. Perfect balance of service and leaving us to enjoy the meal. I will be back and cant wait to try more off their menu.

Reserved a table a few days ahead and was seated immediately in a prime spot upon walking in. Lovely service, the servers know exactly what they are doing. Cocktails are STRONG but delicious. The food was cooked to perfection, definitely recommend getting the mac n cheese to share with the table.

--- lunch --- Really easy pick up and checkout with square. ❤️Chilled steak salad ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - loved the vinaigrette with this, was almost raspberry or wine tasting? - the steak was perfectly good - super fair price - loved the combination of flavors, like the beets and the roasted squash Butcher chopped salad ⭐⭐⭐⭐✨ - really amazing if it's what you're looking for - I liked the turkey in here surprisingly - the pepperoni gave it a good mixture of flavors --- dinner --- ♥️Crispy duck ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - insanely good - tastes almost like pork because it's so crispy and decadsnt - the sweet apples and everything balanced it out perfectly Steak and greens ⭐⭐⭐⭐ - pretty solid steak - salad was just ok but it was what I needed for low carb, I like the harvest salad more Harvest salad ⭐⭐⭐⭐✨ - little pricey for what it is, needs a bigger portion - liked the combination of vegetables though Pierogi special ⭐⭐⭐⭐ - pricy for what it is - plus a small serving size for the cost - not a super stuffed pierogi - kielbasa was great and I don't love sausage - great flavors though, really creatively paired and deliberate Calamari ⭐⭐⭐ - very small serving size for almost 20 dollars - almost tastes like it could be frozen and was just air fried - still good though, wouldnt reorder for the price - appreciate the sauce drizzled over it, was a good pairing as well

The food is delicious here. I was to full for desert , but I will be back for some creme brulee soon. The service was pleasant and quick. Very pleasant dining experience.

Fantastic experience at Laurelhurst Market! Sat out on the covered patio for date night. Loved the mezcal cocktail and ordered the deviled eggs, Caesar salad, porterhouse special and grilled zucchini. All the food was incredible - the steak came with chimichurri, creamy horseradish and a red wine reduction sauce. 10/10 recommend and can’t wait to come back!

I had a party of 7 and we had to wait about ten minutes past our reservation time to be seated and they were so apologetic they gave us a platter of complimentary deviled eggs which were possibly the best I’ve ever had in my life. It all got better from there. They even have a kids menu!

Was flying into town and was recommended this restaurant by an air hostess. Came in about 30 minutes before close and ordered the marinated hanger steak at the bar. The food came out so quick and was cooked to perfection. The accompanying sauce and vegetables on the side were so flavorful and fresh. Michael, the bartender, made great conversation and gave me a great recommendation for a glass of wine.

Best steakhouse in Portland. Great food and drinks, outstanding service in a welcoming dining environment. We had the deviled eggs and calamari to start and both were excellent. Our party of 4 decided to share the 2 lb. T-Bone. Our sever let us know that would take about 25 minutes to prepare so we ordered the heirloom tomato and melon salad and the wedge salad to share. Both salads were amazing. The heirloom tomato and melon salad truly highlighted the best of summer produce and the wedge is not to be missed. The T-Bone is served with 3 standout sauces, Marchand de Vin, Chimichurri, and Horseradish Cream. Our steak was a perfect medium rare. We added the exceptional Pommes Frites and Summer Beans to round out our dinner. Dinner for four with drinks was just under $300. We will be back soon.

This was an absolute treat of an experience. Presenting as a smaller restaurant, once inside, the location is super modern, clean, and updated. The menu is short and easy to read. Paired with this was a fantastic staff that were all eager and happy to be working. We showed up around 8 pm and did not have to wait for a table. Jordan was our server and he was on point with his recommendations for wine pairings on our dinner! Excellent experience, will be back soon!

Fantastic first time experience here. I had the steak frites, and it was to die for. Excellent cocktail menu. The sorbet was a perfect end to my meal. Just amazing all around, and I wish I would've found this place sooner.

Had my birthday dinner here with my parents. It was their first time and they really enjoyed it. I hadn't been back since they built out the new outdoor covered deck. Even though it was cold and wet outside, the tent was warm. The food was delicious. The Tartare was absolutely amazing. Mom loved the burger. My hanger steak was so tender. We also had the ribeye, which was very tasty too. For my birthday, I received a cookie (but we forgot it on the table and didn't remember until we got home and looked in our togo bag. So sad!

We came to Laurelhurst Market to celebrate our anniversary and it was so lovely. We were genuinely surprised by how beyond our expectations it was. We were greeted with champagne which was just so kind. We shared a bunch of plates, it was so much fun. Service was impeccable, just fabulous. Beyond kind servers, funny, great suggestions, conversational and casual, yet anticipating every need. They made for a super smooth dining experience and made us feel special. The food was insane. The charcuterie board was fantastic, every piece of meat was delicious and different with its own flavor profile, the pickles were fantastic. I think the pâté was my favorite. The octopus was crazy, I’ve never had octopus that tender and the black garlic aioli was out of this world. The steak was fantastic, and the roast summer vegetables were delicious. We didn’t save room dessert but it looked amazing. Drinks were also fantastic. Now I get what everyone was talking about when it comes to LM. Just a wonderful experience start to finish in a non pretentious atmosphere. Very PNW. Very fun.

This is considered to be one of the best steakhouses in the United States. Grilled & Marinated Hanger Steak, Mac-n-cheese, Smoke Signals cocktail, Deviled Eggs, add Spiced Bread Pudding. Without a doubt one of the best meals I’ve ever had.

The journey to this establishment, spanning approximately 40 minutes from our residence, proved to be time well spent. Our advance reservations ensured prompt seating upon arrival, even amidst a bustling atmosphere, where the quality of service remained uncompromised. The rustic ambiance exuded a charming simplicity, echoed by a concise yet appealing menu. The culinary experience delighted with its impeccable balance of portion sizes and quality, a testament to the attention to detail exhibited by the kitchen. The libations on offer were equally impressive, and the commitment to culinary excellence was evident throughout our visit. Notably, the establishment maintained a commendable standard of cleanliness, embracing a farm-to-table ethos. It's worth noting that the only minor drawback was the limited parking availability, necessitating street parking, a feature less favored by some patrons. Nevertheless, I wholeheartedly endorse this establishment and would highly recommend it to discerning diners seeking a memorable experience.

Cozy date night here with exceptional food. Both of our steaks were tender and flavorful, Mac and cheese and beet salad were delicious. The warm corn bread they serve with beef tallow and honey was something I didn’t expect to fall in love with like I did, must try that! Overall wonderful experience and will be returning.

Every time I come here it’s always outstanding. The steaks are always perfectly cooked and the accompaniments are very well crafted and curated. The coulotte steak I had on my birthday was my favorite so far. Make a reservation for dinner. This is a great place to bring someone for a special occasion. I love that the vibe is casual but incredibly elevated.

Laurelhurst Market is an inner east side gem. While they are well known for their best in the nation steakhouse dinner experience and curated cocktails and wine, their lunch is not to be missed. They have a wonderful covered patio, a strong menu with lots of standout sandwiches. The turkey on como is my daily favorite. However, where they really shine is their weekly specials and soups. Anyone who has lived in Portland for more than a few years has a deep appreciation of soup, and their rotating soup specials are not to be missed. As an added bonus, you get 10% off at their butcher shop with your lunch purchase. The butcher shop features a wide variety of quality meats, with specialty cuts available to order. They have in-house sausages, pâtés, and deli meats. If you live in the area, you already know all of this, but if you're visiting from out of town, do yourself a favor and stop by. Eat in for dinner, stop by for a quick lunch, and load up on charcuterie for a picnic in the park.

Everything about the dinner at laurelhurst market was exceptional. The service was amazing! Everything came out perfectly cooked and it was perfectly timed. We had the mushrooms and the cornbread for appetizers. My spouse had the new York while I opted for the wagyu flank steak. I would gladly have all of those dishes again. Please go here!

I went here today to pick up some steaks. They are the only high end butcher I know of in the area. Got there at 10 right when they opened and the staff was cheery and welcoming. The gentleman behind the butcher counter was working and asked if I needed help. I told him I was looking for steaks. He was very helpful and told me they have more in the back that he hasn’t finished prepping but if it’s something I want then he would be glad to do it. I opted for 3 of their dry aged bone in NY strips. The butcher said they dry age them minimum 21 days. I liked that they were cut thick like they should be (about an inch thick). They were about $31 a pound and paying was easy. Took them home to grill. Everyone likes their steaks a different way and that is all fine. For purposes of the review I’ll say what I did. Let them sit at room temperature for about 1.5 hours. Heated my gas grill to as hot as it’ll go which is about 700 degrees. I put sea salt and black pepper on the steaks then did them for 4 minutes on the first side and about 2-3 on the second side. Took them off and put a little room temperature butter in them, tented it, and let them sleep for about 15 minutes. My house smelled like magic. It was hard to wait. Once I was finally able to eat them holy cow (pun intended, no bull). They were some of, if not the best, steaks I’ve ever made. I would say that they were better than any I’ve had at a restaurant too such as Ruth’s Chris’, Morton’s, or Double Eagle. They were on par with Peter Luger in Brooklyn. Highly recommend this place as a butcher shop!!!

Incredible food, and quick, attentive, friendly service! The restaurant is romantically lit with candles and dim lighting, and the food was seasoned and cooked perfectly. My husband and I went for our tenth anniversary for dinner, and had the pomme frites, filet mignon and potato purée, ribeye with potato pave, bone marrow, apple miso butterscotch cake with sour cream gelato, and a chocolate chip hazelnut cookie. Everything was absolutely delicious—the best filet mignon I’ve had. Melt-in-your-mouth tender with a nice char on the outside, seasoned well, and complemented beautifully with a sauce and the smoothest, creamiest, and airy potato purée (mashed potatoes). The ribeye was flavorful, with a good amount of fat (not too much), and went very well with the slightly spicy sauce. We had both steaks cooked medium rare. The garlic aioli that came with the fragrant pomme frites (French fries) was flavorful and aromatic, and quite addicting. The kind waitress brought us more when she realized how much we liked the aioli. The apple miso butterscotch cake had a delightful sweetness, which wasn’t too much and had a level of saltiness from the miso that was a very nice touch. The sour cream gelato had a great smoothness and tangy taste that made the whole dessert very refreshing. The cookie was also tasty, but I wish it was warm. The bone marrow wasn’t bad—I imagine it’d be better with bread. I don’t think it added much to the flavor of the steaks, which were so rich and tender and flavorful already. It was fun to experience regardless. I was pretty sad when the food was all gone! I would definitely go again, but due to the prices, it would most likely have to be reserved only for special occasions. We spent $191 (including a 20% tip, rounded up to the nearest dollar).

I can't believe what I ate. I never knew a steak could taste like that. I had the grilled coulotte steak that was peppered, and never had a steak like it before in my life. I feel like my life has begun this evening and the world has opened up to me. Too bad I live 1000 miles away or this restaurant would be a weekly tradition.

REALLY good burgers, and zucchini pickles were so good I bought a pack from the butcher. Pricey but very good quality. Potato salad has a really strong dill taste that goes well with the Reuben.

Came here for our anniversary dinner and had a wonderful experience. We were able to snag a last-minute reservation at 5pm, which was a little earlier than we wanted, but we wanted to guarantee we had a table, as I heard this place gets pretty busy. The food was phenomenal! It's very apparent that the chefs go the extra mile to source their ingredients and create a cohesive and delicious menu. My husband had the hangar steak and I had the ribeye; both were so phenomenal I'll be dreaming of them for days to come. The staff were all hospitable, polite, and very attentive. They even gave us a couple glasses of champagne to celebrate! If you're looking for a sweet date night spot or to celebrate something special, or if you simply just want an absolutely stellar steak, I can't recommend this place enough! Thanks so much! We'll definitely be back.

Where do I start. We came for a family celebration including our 21 month old granddaughter. They have a steak on the kids menu! The service was fabulous: friendly and attentive. And the food was divine! It was a perfect experience.

Yummy sandwiches! Long review. I got the half daily special which was chicken bacon ranch sandwich. The sauce was delicious, very flavorful. The bacon was ridiculously crispy in all the perfect ways. Chicken was tender and juicy and nice grilled flavor. The ingredients were fresh and it was nice to have a warm sandwich on a cold day, and the bread was really nice for this sandwich 10/10. I also got the cold Turkey bacon cheese and this was good too. I prefer the chicken ranch sandwich over the turkey one but i would come back for both. The turkey sandwich 7/10 really tasted/reminded me of a tuna sandwich for some reason. The pickles on it were uniquely pickled, really good flavor and super soft. Ingredients were very fresh. Bread was not my favorite as the edges were very chewy and im just not a hard bread fan but honestly not a big deal it didnt take away from the quality of the sando. Im a sauce girl, If i were to order the turkey again i personally would need some mustard, mayo, and extra pickles. I would of loved some tomatos on it also. The service lady was very welcoming and kind. Parking was a pain for me but may not be that way everyday. They are open Christmas eve until 3pm which is amazing. Price for each half sandwich was $8, i find this a great price for quality food. Warm seating area and free water. I personally did not like the way i had to find the back bar to place my order because it was a little confusing, they have a few other doors before you find the walk up order section which made it confusing, i watched a few people get just as confused as me so i know it wasnt just a me problem, but just read the signs and keep walking until you hit that corner. Overall definitely will be back and excited to try more of their food. Follow me on google and instagram for more local honest reviews @pnwmelaninqueen

This place is great - good food, good meat case with hard-to-get things like pate's and rilletes. It deserves its stars. Quick note to Louisiana folks looking for Boudin - the Louisiana Boudin is ok. Probably won't tickle your itch (saying this as someone who routinely stuffs a suitcase full of boudin every time he goes home). I don't know quite why, but it just isn't the same. It's paler in color for a smoked boudin. It looks like fresh boudin. It definitely has smoke but the character of the smoke is different. It's perhaps a different wood? It otherwise has the appearance of boudin but the flavor just doesn't ring like back home. I noticed the meat stands out a lot (its pink in big chunks) and in Louisiana I find the meat/rice tend to become a single thing. At any rate I end up getting some everytime I'm there and I'm always a little dissappointed. Also the brisket andouille is very good but not usable in classic dishes (like red beans) unless you really want its distinct brisket flavor.

Stopped in for a 4-year anniversary dinner with my lovely girlfriend back in the fall. I ordered one of the seasonal specials (hanger steak with succotash and green sauce). The steak was cooked to perfection and the seasoning and combination of flavors absolutely blew my mind. I had never eaten succotash before but that also tasted excellent. Our server was kind enough to write down a list of spices used in the seasoning so I could attempt to replicate it at home (which is, admittedly, a Herculean endeavor). I plan to return to Portland in the near future, and I pray to every conceivable deity that that hanger steak dish earns a permanent spot on the menu. Not enough stars to praise this place!

My wife and I went out for a date night. Great steaks cooked perfectly. Wedge salad was excellent. The drinks were good. Our waitress was on top of things and very friendly. We'll be back. Thanks.

Maybe a better dinner spot than lunch. Stopped in and picked up a half reuben and half TCB. I found the reuben a little underwhelming to others I've had in Portland. The TCB was stacked high with turkey but I found it a little dry and the turkey didn't have much flavor. Cookie was fantastic. Took a surprisingly long time as well, close to 20 minutes. Definitely has upscale vibes. The lunch seating area, under a tent is heated but sounded like it was going to blow away in the wind... I'm sure it's secure but was making a lot of noises.

This place is a great place to catch up with friends over dinner. We sat in the tent area, and I loved the ambience. There were heaters so you stay warm and pretty lights. Now for dinner, I had the LM Wedge Salad with Winter Squash with pork belly and it was pretty satisfying, it was the perfect balance. Also the deviled eggs were the perfect appetizer. My friends on the other hand have made some comments about the saltiness. One thought the steak was too salty and the other one said the scallops were too salty as well. That's why I gave it 4 stars. Of course it's their personal preference but i thought I should note it in the review. Overall, a good experience with great service. Would definitely come back.

It had been a long time since I had visited and I was surprised to see a large, nice patio. They used to only have outside seating along the wall so we had asked for indoor seating for our reservation, but when we arrived, we found a nice patio and asked to be changed to that table. The butcher's steaks were fresh, the meat was tender and very tasty, so we really hadn't been here in 5 years after covid-19 settled down. We had the beef tartare, mac and cheese, grilled zucchini, and Brandt Ranch Ribeye. The servers were attentive and courteous, the patio had a high ceiling, and the atmosphere was very nice. Seating is so popular that the restaurant fills up quickly both inside and out, so reservations are recommended when visiting.

NYE meal. Excellent service, especially on a busy night. Steak perfectly cooked but unfortunately overpowered by the sauce (the hanger), making it very rich. Recommend they back off on the sauce and let the meat shine. Good sides / salads.

M

Tasty food but a bit expensive. Inaide dining area has a nice atmosphere, but most of the seating is outside under a tarp gazebo which can be a bit cold in the inter months. Their raw butchers cuts are also very good with Ribeye being about the same price/lbs as the store

T

Underwhelmed. Especially for the price. Good, but not great. A medium steak was medium-rare, rare. Very amateur mistake. Not what we expected for $70 steaks. The charcuterie board is good. The pickled vegetables were amazing. We could have eaten just a bowl of those! The wedge salad was also amazing, the pickled onions were a delicious surprise. The bone marrow is straight up delicious, but needs a soft bread or something to better enjoy IMHO. We ordered two ribeyes. One medium and one medium-rare. Both were on the light side of medium-rare. I like rare, but prefer the texture of medium-rare on ribeyes. My wife does not like anything lighter than medium, and I swear her medium had some touches so light they might have been blue. She was eating the crusty edges at first and didn't notice the undercooked bits until later. She is very disappointed with her steak. I liked mine, but I've had better, especially at that price point. We could have gotten prime steaks from Gartner's for 1/4th the price, and at least her steak would have been cooked medium... The flan was good, interesting take on flan.

Came here for hot dog week and was a bit disappointed. The hot dog I got didn’t look much like the photo and seemed like it was missing a bunch of toppings. Service was great and the hot dog had a great flavor, but the lack of toppings was a let down.

Went here for a special dinner on the recommendations of some friends. Really great staff and atmosphere. My entree was over-salted and the Caesar salad was just a little awkward to eat due the way it was served. I may give them another chance in the future!

Our experience here was just fine. It was a Saturday night, and we arrived at 5:45. We placed our order soon after arriving, as we already knew what we wanted. The servers were continuously waiting at the counter for plates and most tables did not have food. Our entree and side arrived after an hour, and our medium rare steak was served very rare, practically blue; it was cold on the inside. The quality of the meat was good. The macaroni was good but it was watery and the sauce didn’t really stick to the noodles at all. It’s possible this was just an off night and maybe their kitchen was short staffed. I don’t think I would come back for dinner based on my experience because there are so many great restaurants in Portland to try, especially given how much everything here costs. It sucks paying so much for food only for it to be slightly better than mid.

A
Anthony K.

I drove an hour roundtrip because of the reviews to pick up the Superbowl special smoked brisket for $31/lb, which I had to wait 2 hours to pick up. When I got home and opened the package the slices were half fat. Now I know some fat is acceptable but this was ridiculous. Make sure you check your meat before taking away your order!

D

We've come here three times in the last two months for lunch. When we first moved here this was our favorite lunch spot. The quality has jumped off a cliff. This most recent time we ordered the usual tride and true smash burger. (The only seemingly consistent thing on the menu) Not only was it under seasoned. It wasn't even a smash burger. It a 1/3 pound thick patty with wilted undressed unseasoned mixed greens there's only one temp for a smash burger and medium isn't it.
