Great lunch! Chicken French and angel hair outstanding. Waitress, Kim, sweet and accommodating. My friend enjoyed greens and beans. I shall visit again, soon.
Had my parents 40th wedding anniversary here couple weeks ago. Staff was great, food was excellent, atmosphere spot on. Couldn't have asked for a better time w the family. Thank You for a memorable evening!!!
We had the chicken french and linguini with red clam sauce. Food was plentiful and fresh!
For the first time in my life I didn't cook Easter dinner! Just for two people?? I said no....We ordered from the Easter menu...veal, scallops, salad, bread, dessert....just delicious! Thank you for being open for take out and for this lovely meal! xoxo
Fish fry was outstanding. Coleslaw was a bit blend. Prime rib was perfectly fine but needs more seasoning. The veggies were good but not great.
I had the manicotti from the early bird menu. It came with a choice of soup or salad. The portion of 3 manicotti was perfect for me, and was delicious! My salad was generous and fresh. The atmosphere and service were wonderful.
Been here 2 times in the last 2 weeks. Great local restaurant with awesome food and service . Wish I would of known what I’ve been missing all these years. Definitely gonna become a consistent customer.
I've been bummed for the last 11 years, I've never been able to find a pasta carbonara in the states that could compare to one I had in England. The carbonara here is absolutely incredible and just as good, if not better, than what I had in England. The service was also incredible
We have eaten at Charlie Brown's many times, both lunch and dinner, and have never been disappointed! The food is excellent, good wine selection, and reasonably priced. Great menu, and great specials.
Had a family group diner. There was enough prime rib left for those who wanted it. Good wine selection.
wow.... we are making our regular weekly stop! Bosdyks type settings, menu incredible with a lot of different choices for anyone.. see no reason to ever go anywhere else when in Rochester! Oh, and service could NOT have been better!
Excellent food. Old school great service. Even the owner greeted each table. Not cheap but worth it. Definitely going back.
Took my daughter for her "Sweet 16" and I couldn't have picked a better place to do it! The service, the food, and the hospitality was awesome!! A daddy daughter experience we will always remember and never forget!!
Once again, last night, I had a marvelous meal at Charley Brown's. After being welcomed by the owner, I joined 5 friends for our regular dinner at Charley Brown's. I ordered the portabella lasagna with a salad with the house dressing with crumbly blue cheese. The salad was crisp, fresh and delicious! The lasagna was fantastic as always with a portion so generous that I brought some home to have for lunch today. The sauce was exceptionally rich and mouth-watering! The bread was fresh, and tasty as it is always. The wines were paired perfectly with my meal. The service was perfect, gracious and, as always, made us all feel at home. During recent holidays, Charley Brown's wonderful servers ( Beth, Sandra, Gail, Candy), our hostess Marsha, and owners Ron and Corey and Juanita, welcomed our entire family for a huge celebration of two wedding anniversaries and a wedding! Despite our expanding guest list, they were wonderful and served our many dinner selections in a timely and delicious order. Later in the week, we celebrated our wedding anniversary with a intimate lunch for two. It was lovely and luscious! Speaking of romantic, remember, Valentine's Day will be here before you know it. Make your Valentine's Day reservations at Charley Brown's now to show your special someone how special they are to you! You will be glad you did!
Everything was excellent! We had the Chicken Marsala and Chicken French. Appetizers were great too. Calamari and Whiskey Scallops in a cream sauce. We took Dessert to go which was Apple Pie and Carrot Cake. We will be back because staff and food were top notch!
During this pandemic, we are trying to order from our local restaurants. We are fortunate to have a number of great choices in close proximity. Of all these choice places, our experience with Charlie Browns has been by far the best! Food is excellent! Friendly personnel, always on time!!!
The atmosphere is warm and friendly. The bar drinks are very good. The service is always very nice. The food is constantly right on. The live music on Friday and Saturday is Delightful. It's a great place to go.
The environment here was nice. It somehow strikes a perfect balance between ritzy and relaxed. You know you're going to get a high quality meal, but you don't feel like you have to keep your shoulders back and your back straight and way with the right girl and drink with your pinky out. And the food *was* excellent. The bread that we got before the meal was nicely crusty and soft. Ordered arancini (one of my favorite foods) for an appetizer, and they were interestingly delicious. I've never had them with pork inside before, so they were different, but enjoyable. Outer layer was nice and crispy as it should be. My blackened salmon was cooked perfectly. It was nice and tender inside with a light crisp on the outside, and really nice flavor. Sometimes blackened things can just taste burnt and bitter and this was not that at all. Even if you don't like "blackened" things, I'd still recommend trying it. The asparagus that it came on was similar: tender, but crispy, tasted nice, seasoned well. Only thing about my meal was that the portion size was a bit on the small side. My gf got the chicken French and added artichokes, our friends also got pasta-based dishes, and their portion sizes were pretty big. The French sauce isn't my favorite I've ever had, but it was nice, though a little mild as French sauces go. Not upset about it at all, though. She didn't finish it and we enjoyed the leftovers the next day and they were still great. Lindsay, out waitress, was pleasant and prompt, and always seemed to be there when we needed her, but not excessively so it never felt like she was interrupting it anything. Serving well done, seriously. And in top of all that, the price was really not bad at all. It wasn't *cheap* by any means, but completely reasonable.
Love Love Charlie Browns. YUM!! Warm and friendly.. Treat us like family. Food is Terrific!! Cannot get enough of their food I want too bring the cook home LOLO!! Always have a Great time Their. The wine is very good price is moderate. Depending what you get food again it depends on what you get. Their is a wide selection of food . Stakes too burgers.Sea Food Also..
This place is clean and comfortable. Great atmosphere.Had a group of 6 that was from 18 to 80 in age, everyone ordered something different. Everyone's meal was great and no-one had any complaints. This place should never be overlooked. 40 plus years in business says a lot about a place. Great food choices and Great sauce.
Four of us went during the power outage. The food was great and the service lovely. Nice place for a relaxed meal. Leftovers were great too.
Good quality food, great service, and easy to find. Reservations are suggested as it does get busy. This family run restaurant has early bird and daily specials and a varied menu. They also have a full bar and weekend live jazz music.
First time there I had chicken French my wife had butternut squash raviolis special both dishes where amazing , Service was great please don’t change anything your restaurant is doing it GREAT Job
Our server Danielle was great. She was very accommodating and so sweet. Food was excellent. I would highly recommend the homemade rice pudding. The best.
When a restaurant has been around more than 50 years they must be doing things well. First time I've been there and I wasn't disappointed. I had the early bird special scallops and my wife had the early bird eggplant parmesan. Both came with a good sized salad and a side. Service was good at the bar and at our table.
We did not have a reservation and the place was packed. When inquiring about the possibility of getting a table we were told that we could eat at the bar, or wait for a table. We waited..and it was worth the the wait. Kimmy, our server was wonderful. The food was fantastic. We had Scallops Whiskey as an appetizer. Out if this world! Prime rib was done perfectly! I highly recommend Charley Brown's Restaurant!!!
Dinner was excellent , has old fashioned vibe. My wife got lamb shanks on mashed potatoes , I got haddock puttenesca, so did my daughter( first for her) . Would go again if I come back to the area.
My husband and I recently moved to the area and stumbled upon this little gem. When we arrived the host asked if we had a reservation which we didn’t because we did not realize how busy this restaurant gets! The host was wonderful and told us not to worry, he would take care of us. After waiting no more than 5 minutes he got us a table. I ordered the chicken parmigiana and it was hands down the best chicken parm I’ve ever had. It was perfectly cooked and not drenched in sauce which, unfortunately, seems to be the norm for lots of restaurants. Our waitress was lovely and very attentive. This is now me and my husbands go to Italian restaurant and we will definitely be recommending this place to friends and family.
One of our favorite places to eat. Excellent choices....great waitresses...nice ambiance...serve late so enable families to have a full dinner after school events in the evening. Can accommodate family parties, book clubs and other organizations. We lost our visitation rights two years ago when J. Criticized the food too much. We hoped criticism would go to kitchen s and not be taken personally by Manager's son. Most restaurants want the best for clientele and use returned food to better serve their customers. We lost a restaurant we loved and had spent four thousand dollars in in two years. Go try Charley Brown's. You won't be disappointed.
Great food and comfortable atmosphere!
This is supposed to be a new review in Feb 2024, but it might show as an update to an earlier one. Tonight was an anniversary night, so to me special. I was tired and considered canceling the reservation, but as it was a special night I went. The fillet mignon (medium rare) was done exactly right. I passed on the gravy , the mashed potatoes were still good. Having a scotch with the meal, I reluctantly passed on dessert, as appealing as it was. Steve is a great bartender, and as usual the conversation around me was enjoyable . It’s a comfortable atmosphere and an enjoyable restaurant.
Love the atmosphere and food! We took home 2 breaded fish fries. One of the best that I've ever had, and that was takeout! We actually didn't touch one, so the following night I warmed it up in the oven, and even a day old it was great! Also, you can't go there without ordering the Whiskey Scallops appetizer. Always amazingly delicious!!
This is an amazing restaurant it's quiet it's kind of dark if you need a date night or you just want to go in and sit at the bar and have a nice quiet dinner this is the place that you want to be the food is incredible from what I understand most of it is homemade and it's just you got to stop and try it please I love doing me nights here now.
Used to visit regularly when we lived in Rochester, as it was right down the street from our house. Returning after a couple years it was nice to see that it is just as good as it ever was. The lamb is some of the best I've had anywhere. The steaks were cooked perfectly, and chicken french wonderful. A nice, small family run restaurant.
We enjoyed Charlie Brown's from the minute we walked in the door! There is a warm at home atmosphere. The host and bartender was polite and made great cocktails. We chose our table and our server Beth was wonderful! Great menu and excellent food. I highly recommend you visit for a nice relaxing dinner!
We arrived a few minutes early for our 5:30 reservation and we’re pleasantly surprised to find there were early bird specials until 5:30. We ordered a bowl of squash soup that was fantastic ! After that had salads ,turkey dinner and chicken French! EVERYTHING was cooked perfectly and the portions were just right. We were too full for dessert. Great meal!
We had dinner for four with a youngster too. The fillet and lamb chops were spot on as was the prime rib. Service was excellent as was the atmosphere! Great dinner, dessert divine; we all were very happy! Thank you!
As always our experience at Charlie Browns was amazing. We went on a Friday night and had the beer battered fish fry. The fish was huge and cooked perfectly, the fries were done just like we asked for, & the coleslaw was delicious. Steve was our server and he was awesome. I highly recommend Charlie Browns
Cool small place to eat. We came in for a birthday party with a reservation. Cozy back room fit 14 of us. Food was wonderful (i got the filet mignon) wait staff was so kind. Small bar i the front.classic type place, old school fine dining. Higher end on prices, but really worth the trip.
We celebrated the wedding anniversary of our daughter and son-in-law this evening with a wonderful meal. Each of us has a different entree, and raved about our choice. Excellent food, wonderfully attentive and personable service, and in a warm, pleasant atmosphere. We've eaten at Charlie Brown's on a few prior occasions and have always enjoyed the same fine meals and service. We will make it there more often for special occasions.
I just had the filet cooked black and blue. It was just perfect. Ron the owner was in the kitchen. I have been a customer since the1990's and will continue to have dinner there. Only wish they would open again for lunch.
I seriously love everything about this place! Food is amazing, every single dish i have had and every single time it is ordered I am always happy. I come here with my mother and 95 year old grandfather quite a bit. Every employee I have come in contact with is super nice and they treat us like family. 2 waitresses there I have had quite often and are absolutely amazing at their jobs and are just truly nice humans. Thank you to all the Charley brown's staff but especially Haley and Beth for always taking care of my grandfather!
Love it. We are from Orchard Park visiting friends and were very impressed with everything. Server had a sense of humor as well. Great service and great food. Stuffed shells were soooooo delicious. We definitely will be back when we are in the area again. D Johns
Good food, fantastic service. Dining room is a little dark to read the menu or bilk for those with aging eyesight. Great early bird specials. Fantastic chicken French. Fills up nightly, so recommend reservations.
Great service, great food, and quite and calm atmosphere for a great date night! Been too long since we visited and so glad we've come back.
Nice little gem! Food was fabulous, service was wonderful, and the pricing was competitive for the area. A+
This has been a favorite of ours for more than 40 years! Ownership has probably changed over the years but the quality of food and service is always excellent.
Been coming here since I was a kid, 50+ years. Very nostalgic for me. My father and our family knew the original owners, Tony and Mike. Charlie Brown's has been with the new owner for many years now, but this top restaurant remains true to its high class vibe with EXCELLENT food and an intimate atmosphere that's hard not to fall in love with. The bar tender (Steve) is awesome. The owner is also great. All staff are professional and the food is, as always, fantastic. GREAT atmosphere here! This is a very special place!
Was in tonight with a large party and a toddler. Our waitress was fantastic. Great food recommendations. It's been years since I have been and man I wish I had come back sooner. Food and staff are fabulous. Highly recommend. Highly recommend the veal liver
5 stars all around! I forgot how good this place really is! Party of 4. Drinks, steaks, and King crab legs. The calamari was the best I've had in a while. All awesome, tender, done as ordered. My filet, done perfect, the knife sliced thru it almost as if it were butter. The crab legs, moist and delicious. Side of rice, not dry, very good to. Our waitress, sorry, I forgot your name, made rounds in a timely fashion, did not have to wait for waters or drinks. The perfect dinner, the perfect night. Don't stop... we'll be back! 30-50 per. Much more with crab legs, of course.
First time in Rochester and decided to hit up a local place. This was the closest one that popped up in my search. Read the reviews and thought I'd give it a shot. Happy I did. Nice selection of wines by the glass. Mostly Italian cuisine. Settled on the Calamari appetizer and Spaghetti Carbonara for dinner. Both were delicious! The Calamari was crispy on the outside with nice, tender rings. The Carbonara was rich and creamy. Been in business 55 years. Good reason why they've been around that long.
My wife and I drove up to Rochester from Ithaca to surprise our daughter for her birthday back in February. We were not familiar with the restaurant options available to us, so we made our choice by Google reviews and the website's pictures using Maps. We were NOT disappointed. We got the perfect table to surprise our daughter and her partner. The food was fantastic. The service was equally fantastic. Our waitress was there when we needed her and not when we didn't. I'm still not sure how she did that, but she did, and she was very good at it. The surprise and dinner were a complete success. I highly recommend Charley Browns and would like to thank the servers, management, staff, and owners.
Without a doubt the best restaurant I visited this week in Rochester. A little pricey, but in this case, you get what you pay for. That said, the early bird menu is very affordable, has a great selection, and offers generous portions. I ordered the eggplant parmesan and chose angel hair pasta and a salad for my sides. The eggplant was breaded with panko bread crumbs rather than Italian bread crumbs. The end result was a crisp rather than mushy eggplant which I enjoyed immensely. There was a small amount of fresh mozzarella in between the layers of eggplant and it was topped with just the right amount of a delicious marinara sauce. My angel hair pasta was cooked to perfection. I chose the red sauce for my pasta to try it out. I didn't think it could possibly be as good as the marinara, but it was just as delicious, and I sopped up every last bit with the wonderful Italian bread that was served with my meal. Even the salad was great. The lettuce was fresh and crisp, and although it was topped with only one cherry tomato and one slice of cucumber, in the long run that really didn't matter, because the homemade balsamic vinaigrette and fresh crumbled blue cheese the salad was topped with was so amazing it more than made up for the scant toppings. I sat at the bar and the bartender provided friendly, and excellent service. I can't stress enough how great the experience was. The food there was really in a different stratosphere than anything else I've eaten while staying here in Rochester. This is one place that I would not miss if you're in the area.
Love to dine at Charlie's Excellent hospitality, small portions in some items. Not gluten free however. Would be nice to have a few options. We dine often there.
This place is by far my favorite place to eat with my family. This is completely bias, fair warning. I have been coming here since my parents moved to Penfield, when i was about 4 years old. We would go out to dinner every friday as a family and Charlie's was one of the places that we would frequently go! As a kid i would either get three entrees; Chicken/ veal french, spaghetti and meat balls, or chicken parm. Most Dishes were really big then so we always had enough for saturday lunch. For us this place was very kid friendly, but that may be because we went there so frequently. The staff is just the nicest and they are and genuine as they come. When you walk in the door you are greeted either by the owner or his wife, not a stereotypical hostess. The staff treats you as a one of a kind customer even if they are handling half of the restaurant's tables.i The Actual building is very deceiving and small, but size has never been a factor in my books. The front room is like a green house ish room, and my favorite place to sit is in the furtherest left corner of that area because it is quiet enough and you still can see the entire restaurant from there. We spend most big holidays here as well as graduations and birthdays because we know we will have a good time and great food. The prices of the food is very fair the the quality you receive! GREAT PLACE FOR A FIRST DATE, But that may just be my opinion because the general crowd is much older, therefore there is kinda a judgement free type of atmosphere. We always take my grandparents here because the courses include a salad/ soup and bread which is very important to the older generations, and they sometime do not appreciate more trendy areas, but this place is the perfect amount of modern and homeliness you can receive from a restaurant It is always nice to support a family owned local business. My current favorites are usually whatever is their special for the night, I usually pick one and so does my boyfriend; and we share. Usually get a bottle of wine for dinner.. If you are a Penfield native and have not tried Charlie's.... I feel bad for you! A must For the penfield area!
Sublime! First time at Bouley's. A christmas eve lunch to remember forever. Each morsel of the 5 course menu was astounding. My friend and I luxuriated in the warm, elegant, quiet atmosphere, the friendly service, and left happy!
Always, has the food been delicious. It's a smaller place with a full bar but dark enough for a more intimate atmosphere. Can accommodate larger crowds in it's back room. Would call for reservations if dining is for more than 2. Awesome "early bird" menu.
There was a time when you ordered prime rib and it melted in your mouth. Not now.😔 However I had 2 12 oz. Pork chops and they were delicious. Drinks are always good!
Service was impeccable, attentive, efficient and warm. Food was solid old school fare, artichokes french and chicken were spot on, (if done wrong unforgivable in the GRoc), Delmonico was cooked perfectly. Espresso and coffee perfectly warm and fresh. White tablecloths and napkins a throw back but done well and a perfect fit for observed guests, hard to find a place that has not forgotten hospitality like this icon of Rochester.
Went for an early bird special, they forgot one of my orders but made up for it with desert. Decent food, a little pricey for what you're getting even for the early bird. Staff was friendly, comfortable atmosphere.
When I want a cozy dinner, in a nice restaurant with ambiance, I like to come to Charley Brown's. Sometimes I'll eat light with a soup and salad, or when I'm dying for a filet, or GF pasta, this is the place I go. The owners know me, I feel safe here, and I like bringing my daughter, and friends as well. This place is worth the time, money. They do have an early bird dinner from 4:30 - 6:00, I believe, the portions are smaller, but are still filling.
Friends took us here. It's their favorite place and it was easy to see why. Charley Browns is charming and fun. The food was excellent, well prepared, served at the right temperature. The service was very good and our server came just at the right times. The noise level is higher than is comfortable for me, butter table was in a corner and that helped. There is patio seating that looked inviting, but was full. The is a very popular place and worth the trip.
Had dinner there on a Wednesday eve with friends. Nice, comfortable atmosphere ... kind of dressy casual. I ordered the angel hair pasta with olives, artichokes and sun dried tomatoes and it had a wonderful garlicky sauce, delicious. Bread and a nice salad came with it. The server was great.
Food was solid. Surf and turf featured a flavorful filet and a slightly overcooked tail. Other meals at the table were generally enjoyed. My friend had a steak that wasn’t good and the manager and server quickly replaced with a filet, which my friend said was excellent. If you are in to very old looking restaurants you may appreciate the appearance here. All of the clientele were senior citizens when I arrived on a Thursday. I would not object to going back however it would not be in my top 10. Looks at if ownership have pocketed the profits for years and not reinvested very much.
This is one of our favorite restaurants in the area. Everything we've tried has been delicious (it's hard to choose one, but my favorite is the Chicken Marsala, and the steaks are above average too). The service is always excellent. The atmosphere is relaxed, warm and inviting. Everything, from the menu choices to the decor, feels a bit old fashioned...but it works. Every time we are in the area, we always schedule a meal here, and have never regretted it.
Vice nice, cozy & quiet atmosphere. Salmon was exceptional. Service great as well!
Cozy resteraunt. We specifically went to emjoy their liver and they delivered a delicious meal. Waitress was very personable and responsive. Would absolutely go back
Without a reservation, we were directed to the bar, which we enjoy. We were out of the waitresses path, so it was comfortable. Steve made our night. Besides not being the arrogant type of bartender, but the opposite, he was nice and engaging. My martini was perfect. His description to a couple of things on the menu was clear and decisive. The split pea soup was delicious, and I noticed it was not overly salty, thanks! Salt, pepper and chili flakes were available if needed, though.I ordered the gnocchi, the bowl was simply hot, the way pasta should be always served. It was delicious, and noticed again that the pasta sauce was not overly salty and or spicy, so standard in any restaurant in this area. Thanks, again! I asked for a normal size table spoon that took no time to come. My husband ordered some burger that was cooked the way he wanted it.
We love this place. The service is attentive and friendly. We always feel like family. Great food, good variety on the menu, excellent specials. Before the pandemic we ate here almost weekly. Like so many restaurants Charley Brown's closes earlier, and we eat later than most. We make it whenever we can.
Traditional Rochester restaurant with reliably good food. Some items on the menu demonstrate innovation while others remain traditional. Attracts an established crowd. Lots of long-time regulars.
A fun place with great atmosphere. Good salads and dressing. Veal Parm was a bit dry and needed more sauce, but the server was not available. Dining companions had Monday special Chicken and Biscuits which they devoured with gusto.
First time coming here. The food was delicious! I ordered the burger with a side of french fries and my sister ordered pasta with red sauce which came with a side salad. The atmosphere was very nice and so was the service. I would definitely come here again. If you have a large party, I'd suggest calling ahead and making a reservation as the restaurant is small and fills up fast!
Food was great, except the salad being warm. Live music was a nice touch. Unfortunately, our waitress was not attentive and had to get asked multiple times for requested items.
Much older crowd who probably have been going for years and appreciate the prompt and kind service. Our meals though were on the bland side and our salads lacked substance (lettuce and 1 cherry tomato?).
My fiancée and I had randomly stumbled cross this restaurant a couple years ago. He had ordered the fried chicken, and was so impressed with it he's been talking about it since. Well we decided to come here for his birthday. Unfortunately they don't have the chicken anymore, so ended up getting something else. While service was great, everything was very bland and have very little flavor. The salad is just a spring mix with one tomato and nothing else. I got chicken parm and he got baked ziti and both were bland and disappointing. Not that the food was awful, but definitely overpriced for very little seasoning.
My husband and I have been going to Charlie Browns for years. They've always had great food and they make the perfect martini....until tonight. I had a tangueray dirty martini and my husband had a tangueray martini straight up. And let me tell you, they were bad. We sent it back because it tasted like cucumber. They remade them but they tasted the same. I could not even taste the gin. Anyway, we ordered the bacon wrapped scallops and we got 3. While they were tasty, why 3. We expected 4. For dinner I ordered Alaskan King crab while my husband ordered filet mignon. Taste wise, my husband said it was fine. The crabs legs were a different story. I absolutely love crab legs but this evening turned me off to ever ordering them again. Most of it was very fishy tasting. Yes it is shelll fish but, I have had so much better. And my husband had never had crab before so I wanted him to experience something really good. Unfortunately, that was a bust. For dessert we ordered the apple crisp to share. We had it the last time we were there and it was delicious, but tonight was a different story. It was mediocre at beat. The topping was dry and they only gave us 1 small scoop of ice cream. The coffee was not good either. It is a white table restaurant and there are not many left, so the atmosphere was very nice. it was my birthday tonight and although the food and drink were a disappointment, the company was amazing.
Food was acceptable though not notable. Charged extra unexpectedly (ie; upcharge for Caesar salad instead of garden salad anchovies with salad were an extra charge). Seated at a table the was very wobbly and right up against (uncomfortably so) to the women's bathroom. Over all unimpressive.
Service was good, restaurant itself is nice, kinda small but it's nice. The food....it LOOKS great, but my food tonight was NOT great. Looks we're very much deceiving in this case. That's not to say that the food was bad. The chicken parmesan I ordered was very flat. What I mean by that is that it had almost 0 taste. Not sure what happened but I just didnt taste anything. Very weird because you'd figure the sauce would have some taste, but very little if any. Completely confused to be honest. My fiancee said her food was fine but not anything special as well. Overall, TL;DR service was good, food was OK, no taste in chicken parmesan though.
I'm sorry to say, but this is the second time Ive had an awful meal here. I had forgotten about the first time until my dinner came, because I ordered the same thing. The Haddock French was what I chose and I'm sorry I did. The Sauce was like water with a little coloring and no flavor. The chief really needs to learn a French sauce. Go to Agatina's, they have the best French sauce and Broccoli French ive ever had. My salad was warm, the Haddock fish was soggy and for 14.99 the little pieces of fish were not worth the wait or the money. But I must say the waitress's were wonderful and accommodating. I really don't want to embarrass my family who never complain about anything and believes that the way to show your dislike is to not come back. But as a waitress for 25 years, I really would like to know if something is bad and I know the owner does too. ( I'm not talking about those who have a complaint about everything just to get a free meal, we all know who they are) but if you have a reputation for quality food the owner NEEDS to know. I really hope the owner reads this, or someone brings it to his attention, he came to our table and was pleasant and kind and knows my extended family.
A salad was served. The greens were very wilted. The salad was over dressed. It wasn't eatable. I had a chicken and artichoke dish. It was eatable. But quite tasteless. Last time I will eat here.
Great staff. Super uncomfortable seating, we always seem to end up in the way of staff and fear our heads will be hit with trays. My poor husband was pushed right up against a customer at the next table over. The food used to be so delicious, our last several visits have left us scratching our heads. What happened? I’m afraid today was our last visit.
Walking in the hostess stand seemed chaotic, everyone waiting seemed upset. Seems like they didn't stagger reservations well. Once seated our waitress was solid, checked in a lot and constantly filled up the waters. Food is the major downside here. Took about an hour from ordering to the entrees came out. The bread and salads that came out pretty quickly, bread was not great and salad was fine. Entrees were super bland. It was cooked well, meat tender and juicy just not seasoned at all it seemed like. Mash potatoes are bland as well. The place could be a nice spot but unfortunately feels like a restaurant for an older crowd who wants bland food.
Older clientele. Seems to be a nice family joint. The food was rather bland. The atmosphere was stuffy and a little dirty. Very dark inside but not like fun night life dark like don't look at your food to close dark.
Charly Brown's Restaurant used to be good, back in the day now not so much. It definitely a senior restaurant and their portions reflect that. We ordered clams casino and we were shocked. The clams were the size of a quarter and there was barely the tip of a teaspoon in it. I totally understand the food prices have gone up however for $15.95 it was a total rip off. I dont know how they can serve that with having a good reputation. They charged us a $3.00 dollar up charge for romaine lettuce for the side salad that was skimpy too. I will never be back again.
Bad experience went at 3pm host said they were closed. They told my kids that they open at 4pm. We came backbat 4pm. Seems the people that were there earlier was still there. Host was rushing us. He said reservation was needed. The host said people like to take long while dinning. They tried to be upscale but were not. The bus boy was sloppy. We had hair in our bread. There soup was bad. Progresso soup is better. There food had no flavor. Would not visit again.
My first time visiting this restaurant and the food was horrible. A friend was celebrating her birthday and none of her guests enjoyed their meals. I ordered the Chicken Marsala with mashed potatoes. Absolutely horrible!! The salad was terrible too.
We came out to celebrate my Birthday yesterday, 7/7/23. I had never been to this restaurant before. I wanted lobster for my birthday dinner, and my boyfriend suggested we try this place out. We called ahead to make sure they had lobster. When my dinner arrived, the lobster was over cooked. It was super tough to chew, so I informed our server. She took my lobster tail back to the kitchen and returned a few minutes later to inform the cook REFUSED to make me another. She said he'd make me something else on the menu???????? I declined and was very upset, but didn't want to make a scene. Our server could tell this was unacceptable. She apologized, and offered me a drink on the house. Then a few minutes later she came back and informed me the cook was going to make me another lobster tail after all. At first I wouldn't accept it because I was completely Mortified that a restaurant would treat their guests this way. Our server insisted so I just took it "to-go" .... I will NEVER EVER return to this restaurant again. A HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT!!!!!
Words cant express the despicable customer service we experience on Easter Sunday !The owners should be ashamed of themselves! Other patrons observed their behavior and commented they will not go back there to eat or drink ! It was all due to a small over site in our reservation made we. We misjudged by "one " person to add ...and they would not accommodate ! It was laughable! We were stunned ! We had our two elderly Moms were with us, ages 86 and 90 ! They said..."we can't seat you until 7:00 pm"" ! Class-less Manager said "well...It was "YOUR mistake" after all. Original reservations were at 430. Horrific ! Next Time we will go across the street to Michael's Valley Grill, better atmosphere, better food, and way better customer respect ! Out ranks this "shabby shack" big time !
So disappointed. Family have been long -time patron.. no more! Server, Marcia, has been there for years. So rudely disrespected an extremely hard working male busser the other evening. Manager did nothing. Have seen this several times. Good food and even better found in Rochester. If this establishment treats their staff this way, I will not support. My friends and I will spend our time and money elsewhere. Marcia needs to go, and Management needs better leadership.
While the location isn't the most upscale from the outside, Charley Brown's has done a very impressive job making the interior feel very upscale. The service is solid and waitstaff are courteous. Unfortunately though, the food seems to be aimed exclusively at the aged clientele with offensively bland, unseasoned food. For the prices charged, I was appalled by how tasteless my steak, potatoes, and soup were. The same can be said for my wife's food, also incredibly bland. Neither of our steaks had any semblance of a crust, and it was clear, the usage of salt, pepper, or any other seasoning was heavily rationed in the kitchen. All in all, this place would be absolutely lovely if they made food with actual flavor, instead of charging over $100 for a couples' dinner's worth of unseasoned ingredients.
I ordered the prime rib from the “Special of the Day” menu. Our waitress cautioned me that it may come medium to well done. What was served to me was a paper thin slice of meat that was well done three days ago! Not only was the so-called meat overdone, but it had an odd taste to it like very old meat. I never had a chance to send it back since the waitress avoided any eye contact with me even after it was obvious that I wasn’t eating the meal by placing my knife and fork across my plate. When my plate was finally removed and I had the opportunity to complain, the waitress informed me that she would remove the dinner from my bill. I had to chuckle when I realized that she did remove the entree from my bill but charged me for the salad that came with the meal. All in all, not a stellar evening.
