Stopped in while visiting from oregon and this place is pretty good. The employees are super nice! Thank you for going over menu items with us. Cozy and busy atmosphere. Food came out quick. Fries were crispy. Bun was not soggy. Top is the coyote and bottom is the Cincinnati.
The Dunkyard Dog Plate, a staple of Rochester Quisine. It was so good, I can't say enough good things about it. Great service, a cozy eat in walk up. One thing that I can say for sure. We will be back.
So many good vegan options. Who doesn't love a good glizzy. 10/10 will go again. Ty to the counter girlie for explaining the (chip flavor I can't remember) was supposed to be all flavors in one, they were amazing.
A classic that never disappoints! Plates are amazing and they've got a wide range of dog toppings. Gotta stop by if you're a visitor to the Rochester area!
I’ve been going to Dogtown for a while and it’s still one of my favorite spots in Rochester. The vibe is always the same in the best way, small, laid back, dog photos everywhere, and just a solid neighborhood feel. This time I tried the Greek Stray, which is a little different from what I usually get, and it was a great switch up. The tzatziki was cool and garlicky, the tomatoes and onions tasted fresh, and the olives and pepperoncini added a nice salty kick. The feta on top really brought it together. It’s not your typical Dogtown order, but that’s what I liked about it. Something new, still packed with flavor, and still done right.
Love the plates here , best in Rochester in my opinion , the variety of dogs is great and the sides are great . Only knock against the place is the parking is shared whith other places and is pretty tight so if you got a giant truck it’s gonna be a pain to park. Overall 5/5 food here is great and the people behind the counter are super friendly . Been here dozens of times z
Simply the best hot dogs and best garbage plates. Their website could use some updating with online ordering giving a credit card to a teenager over the phone feels risky). At the very least they need to be posting their prices with their online menu.
Where to begin? I have nothing negative to say about this place. As a Rochester native born and raised, I have eaten at Dogtown over a dozen times at least. Every time I go, it’s just as good as the last. Their version of the Nick Tahou’s garbage plate is extra extraordinary. Go check them out.
A pretty good place. Seating could be an issue if you go during weekend dinner rush but otherwise its always available. Food is incredible and portion size compliments the price. Food came out very fast.
Dogtown where do I begin. When looking for a place to go after my visit to the Strong Museum of play today Dogtown caught my attention. Located about five minutes away from there this place though little had a big impact on my taste buds. All the hotdogs on the menu are named after dogs which I thought was brilliant. The service was amazing and the food was even better. I WILL be back for more delicious food!
Love this place! I've been going here for years for great gluten free and vegetarian food. It's my go-to restaurant when I've had a bad day or burned dinner. Everything is reasonably priced and delicious.
Best dogs in town—and i’d argue the best garbage plates as well! There's a large variety of menu options and toppings to choose from, plus specials you won’t find anywhere else. This place has the accolades to back it up. Parking and seating can be a little challenging during peak times, but it’s worth it. Enjoy the photos of dogs lining the walls. Service is friendly and on point.
Please, I will argue with anyone over where to get a plate in Rochester. It's for sure Dogtown. From the cute dogs all over the walls, the great merch and the AMAZING vegetarian selection. You can't go wrong. Don't be scared away from a plate if you're vegetarian. Dogtown offers a veggie meat sauce substitute and plenty of meat alternatives. And honestly, I've requested a garbage plate from Dogtown as a late night snack after my upcoming wedding. Dogtown! Dogtown! Dogtown!
I love dogtown. I live two blocks away, and I try not to come more than once a month because I can put away an entire garbage plate, and I don't need to do that more than once a month. They have an excellent vegetarian and vegan menu as well as more than adequate gluten free options. Food is fast, delicious, and served by happy staff.
We love this restaurant. At one point, we came so often that they knew our order before we even placed it. The kids always get pup plates (red hots, no buns, no pickles, and 1 regular fries, other sweet potato fries). Sometimes my husband and I share a garbage plate, other times we get the specials. There's always something yummy. They have 3 long tables (seats 8-9 each), and window seating. It's all counter height seats, even the high chair. Gets really crowded at lunchtime so go at opening time or be prepared to wait.
Best plate in Rochester, hands down! Quaint little joint with tons of character - both in their interior decor (walls littered with customers' dog photos) and the expansive, dog-themed menu. Exceptionally great staff, too! Very amiable and responsive. Even when it's packed during the lunch rush, the wait times aren't too long and the food still comes out fresh.
We love this place. Unique menu. Hot dog toppings based on different dog breeds. I had a German shepherd, which had sauerkraut in addition to a few other things. The Boston terrier had baked beans. Great service. Fast and friendly. Try the soup too. Vegetarian available and so so good.
A wonderfully cozy and authentic place with real soul. They serve amazing hot dogs at surprisingly great prices, all wrapped in a warm, nostalgic atmosphere. The photos of people’s pets on the walls add such a lovely, homey touch — it almost feels like you’re visiting an old friend’s house.
Always 5 stars. I eat here regularly and have never had anything wrong with my meals. Friendly service. Eclectic space (indoor and out). Vegetarian and vegan options that have great flavor. Nice portion sizes. Plenty of parking.
Dogtown had an amazing junkyard plate! I want to give the person manning the fryer in the back the BIGGEST props for delivering not only the crispiest home fries on the plate, but I loved the quality of the junkyard plate so much that I went back for the special of the day (loaded poutine) and the fries were also cooked to crispy perfection! Both people taking orders and running the front were so kind and you can tell everyone is running a tight ship to keep pumping out high quality, delicious food! All the dog photos and dog themed menu items were adorable! TL;DR: Worth the stop for anything on this menu, I know I am already dreaming of coming back!
Best dogs and garbage plates in Rochester is 100% accurate. What an experience! Super fair prices and their selection is vast. Love the clever menu names and the decor with photos of dogs on the walls. Service was friendly and prompt and while small there was quite a bit of seating inside and out. The food itself was incredible, topped to the brim with toppings and sauces. Very messy. So grab your napkins and dive in!
So many friends have told me to visit and I was lucky enough to do so Tuesday! Pictured here is my custom plate and I found it immaculate. Friendly, courteous and efficient service and staff made everything flow nicely during a busy lunch rush. Easily one of the best, least greasy, hot meat sauces I've had. 10/10 would go again and likely will today or tomorrow to try their amazing combinations. That pittbull is calling my name next!
I lived in Rochester for 6 years and I can’t believe I missed this place while I was there. Stopped here during a recent visit and was blown away. They’re allegedly one of the “Top 10 Hot Dog Joints In America,” though I have not fact-checked that and I don’t plan to. True or not, the food is incredible. I’m particularly impressed by their commitment to having great vegetarian and vegan options. You don’t really see that at many hot dog joints. Don’t worry, meat lovers: they have everything you could possibly want. But they also have everything non-meat lovers could possibly want from a place like this. And it’s ALL delicious, meat and non-meat alike. It’s small. Seating and parking can be difficult if it’s busy. If it’s nice outside, the outdoor seating has a relaxing vibe. In my experience, the staff was as friendly and accommodating as their diverse menu. There are so many great places to get food in Rochester (probably the #1 thing I miss about living there). I’m glad I discovered this one I missed before and I’ve already recommended to others outside of this review where I recommend it to YOU.
Something about Dogtown I just love. I don't even really know if I like hotdogs THAT much, but just such a cool place! Employees seem happy, I think that says a lot. Truly a Rochester staple.

Last time I had a "garbage plate" was 2008. The junkyard plate brought me back to that bar hopping night so many years ago. The hot dog and the burger versions were perfect!
Good food, friendly efficient service, like the quirky environment. Parking can sometimes be tricky as it is a popular place.

Best plate in Rochester. Good price, a real dive. Great selection of dogs. Love the Switzerland
They know what they are doing and they do it well! Great food, service, and atmosphere. A Rochester gem!
So many great options. Great and friendly staff. I didn't have to wait long for my food either. Will be back when I'm in the area.
Most excellent hot dog palace and plate emporium. Other than parking, everything is 5 Star

Loved my dog! Being from the south, I got the southern hound dog with slaw and chilli (meat sauce) and sweet potato fries. Definitely recommend!

I can see why they’re a local favorite. Messy, too messy. It’s not enjoyable to eat, going too hard on the toppings. Castro dog, very wet flavor lacking slaw killed the roll and eating experience. Chicago dog, great take on this style… fell all over the place.
There's no atmosphere, just basic tables, order at counter. Great variety of dogs and plates. They split and griddle the dogs and also toast your bun. Hot dog plate was on point with two nicely grilled dogs, excellent beans and home fries, and really good neat sauce. Get it wit everything.
The place is small but the food is very affordable and tasty. There is always a daily deal going on and you can order your food to go. The staff is friendly and are always on top of keeping the dining area clean. There are even vegan options if you need them. Its a little teasure on this street. The walls are decorated with hundreds of pictures of the staffs pets (mostly dogs)
Really good food! I appreciate the number of options and customizability. I like my plates a specific way and they do a really good job with them. My wife really really liked the hotdog she got (Fido Castro). There's an okay amount of seating outside and a little more inside. The dogs on the wall are all cute and it's nice to see all their names and silly selves! Highly recommend checking it out, especially if you like garbage plates!

Food is amazing. wait time is atrocious. We came here looking for food and waited 2 hours for 4 garbage garbage plates. What a joke
I split a garbage plate and had a great time. The dining space is very small so that’s something to consider if you plan to stay and eat. It’s a lot of food for low price, highly recommend.
I would love to give this place a 5 star rating for their garbage plates but I got the feeling that I was too sober to enjoy it to its fullest extent. The service and ambiance was excellent, but I …

What people say about Dogtown
Dogtown: Rochester's Hot Dog Haven (and Plate Paradise)
If you've spent any time in Rochester, you know that when the craving for a classic hot dog or, let's be real, a proper garbage plate hits, there are a few names that immediately spring to mind. And near the top of that list, consistently barking its way into local lore, is Dogtown. This isn't just another spot; it's a Rochester institution with a reputation that precedes it, and frankly, the accolades to back it up. First and foremost, let's talk about the food. Dogtown: Rochester's Beloved Hot Dog Haven with Heart
Rochester has its fair share of iconic spots, and Dogtown, nestled just a stone's throw from the Strong Museum of Play, is definitely one of them. For years, this little gem has been a go-to for locals, and it’s easy to see why. It's the kind of place that captures your heart even if you're not usually a hot dog aficionado.Step inside, and you're immediately greeted by a cozy, intimate space. Don't expect grand dining rooms here; Dogtown is small, but what it lacks in size, it makes up for in
