Boy I'm glad I have this restaurant in my backyard. Food is really great and there's quite the variety. They are consistently busy and that says something - the owner is one of the most responsible property owners I've seen and takes care of the surrounding area very nicely. A real asset to our community and some darn good comfort food.
Came in by accident and came back instantly for more. I bought lunch on the way to the airport. It was all pretty yummy but when I had a beef empanada I knew I needed to bring some home to Washington. Not only did these keep well, I toss a couple in the air fryer the next day and they were excellent. Wish I lived in Rochester. Will have to visit again when in town.
The food is excellent. There is always a small waiting line. You have your food in about 10 minutes. The food is always hot. There is a small dine in area if you would like to eat there. There is no table service you order your food and take a table. No one seemed to mind since the food is really good. The prices are very reasonable.
Nice people. Prices are great Portions are ample. Another great meal. Pulled pork, rice and beans and stewed chicken for my brother. It will take two sitting to finish this one meal. Outstanding.
The food was delicious and very authentic. The baked chicken was very tasty and moist. The rice tasted so good that you could it by itself, although the beans were good too. My favorite part of dinner were the fried sweet plantains.
The food is on point at this place and is consistently delicious. I have never been disappointed. Tonight I had my usual yellow rice with oxtail gravy, beans on top and baked chicken. I surprised my mom ans got her a meal too. She loved it!! So when I don't feel like cooking myself or I'm just in the mood for great food, I make the drive across town to El Latinos. It's worth it every time!!
We come from Toronto - Scarborough/Pickering area. Stopped in at El Latino after a colleague recommended it to us and we have no regrets. We both got pork shoulder w yellow rice and beans + tostones, plantain and a mango juice. Everything was really delicious, staff were friendly enough in my opinion, nice space to eat, etc. You can’t really get food like this very easily out here, not in our ends at least. Will go back next time we’re around, for sure!! Thank you xo
This is a steam table counter restaurant serving up favorites. The food is solid and plentifully served. Ox tail and empanadas are delicious. Reasonable number of tables for in house dining. They served a diverse crowd efficiently and respectfully.
The best pork shoulder anywhere! The pork chunks are amazing! The stew beef is so tender! They even make they're own juice drinks which are surprisingly good! I've been here for lunch and dinners and have yet to be disappointed. Every time I go here I always forget they have desserts because I get so focused on the food display. I guess I'll have to try one of them next time.
The food is amazing. Service is always friendly and fast.
Delicious braised ox tail, yellow rice is awesome though not very spicy, cabbage is a must, and the ribs were good too. Grabbed some food here on a whim, and was SO glad I did. Friendly staff, and super flavorful foods. The pork shoulder looked amazing, when I'm back in town, I will definitely be back.
Clean place. Food smells and tastes amazing!!!! Food also looks and tastes fresh. Best chicken empanadas...very fresh and so much flavor. Highly recommend
Love this place! Home-cooked & plentiful food, w friendly seating at long tables. So cool to find a bit of Latin & the Caribbean in Rochester- colorful paint, small, homey, & very clean! Supporting our local businesses is a lot more fun & satisfying than chain restaurants. Thank you to our immigrants for bringing so much great stuff to our culture!
The food was great and they are very generous and kind. At a time like this food is a comfort zone for many people and to come here and get wonderful delicious food just made my day. Keep up the good work. Good food is hard to come by and this place have it.
Stopped in and enjoyed a great lunch. There was a bit of a line which was a good sign that they're popular. People of all ages and families were here too, which likely explains why they had rules posted- no profanity, no baggy jeans, etc. We both got medium sized rice, beans, and pork shoulder which was very good and a lot of food. Neither of us could finish it.
Place was pretty packed with a line to the door on Saturday around 5PM. Most people got take out. I got the large stewed chicken for $10.50 plus tax. Came with cabbage and rice and beans. DELICIOUS!!! Best part was that it lasted me three meals, could have easily fed two very hungry people. Will definitely be back.
Thursday's Hog Maw day. Yummy. Haven't had it a while but it was worth it. Also had some delicious cabbage. The service was great and the place was clean. The food presentation made you want some of everything there. Yummy
So not only is the food at the restaurant absolutely AMAZING, but I would like to comment on the staff. I left my wallet there yesterday (full of very important things not to mention hundreds of dollars worth of gift cards in it) I was unaware that I had even done so until 10:30 last night my doorbell rang and it was the owner returning my wallet with everything in it after just getting out of work! Not only did he refuse money but he thanked me for driving such a long way to eat at his restaurant! I was already a customer for life now I am going to go weekly! I give the food and staff a standing ovation!!
This place has the best Hispanic food I’ve had in awhile. I got the two meat combo (pork, chicken) rice and beans and a side salad or you can get a cooked cabbage side for 15$ so worth it. Also the tostones where freshly cooked upon ordering. I also got the Maduros were very good not overly sweet. Totally recommend this place to everyone to go and enjoy their food…!!!
The food is amazing but the people that work there seems down and sad not sure maybe that’s how people are now and days But when it comes to food we need more smiley faces & good service with sparkling personalities. Shows the food and service is 100% and happy returning customers. Cake is also extremely GOOD but over priced.
Love the place and the people amazing food! Never disappoints. However I wish they'd answer the phones for call ahead orders. Whenever I call no one ever answers, it's more convenient to call ahead then going in and waiting a half hour. Called 4 times today and no one ever picked up 🤦🏻♂️
I've been coming here for years and the quality has not changed. Excellent food and fast service!
I love the food at this place!!!
Top notch Latino food. Staff was extremely friendly and gave ample portions to myself and other customers as I watched. Prices are very reasonable. A medium portion was more than enough. The baked chips and pork shoulder are amazing. Def recommend
Totally Authentic Latin Staples made in a scratch kitchen. I had the Brased Ox Tail, it was Awesome! They have a ready made counter if you are in a hurry or a full menu to order from. The quanty and quality of food for the price can not be beat. If you are in the area, do yourself a favor and don't pass this place up.
El Latino is by far, the very best authentic Latin American cuisine offered in the Rochester area. My Auntie and I love to go there when we feel like a special treat, like crispy pork belly skin. The best part is, we feel like family when we are there. Blessings to that wonderful family that runs El Latino. Nice work!
Their food is amazing and such a good price!
I’m here atleast once a week for lunch if not more. Food is great, never had a bad meal from here. Even when busy they move quickly to get to the next people in line. Huge portions and very affordable. Definitely get their homemade hot sauce with your order
Delicious. Everytime I have gone here I’m amazed at the portion size. It’s definitely worth the price. I’ve tried literally everything and it’s all good. Highly recommend
Great portions, great price, had enough food for dinner and lunch the next day, everything’s fresh each day, definitely coming back here when i’m out here for work again
Been going here for years. You can't go wrong everything is fantastic and a great crew
Pretty damn good. I get the oxtails and yellow rice with beans. The crispy pork skin is incredible as well.
There food is always great and the portions are worth the money you spend Staff was friendly.I like this restaurant much better than a few I have been too. I've stopped going to others because staff has been rude.
Absolutely love coming here when I can make it into the city. Family run, super friendly, and amazing food!
This place has been here for many years and is consistent with good food and kind service. As a Rochesterian, it's really impressive and great to see a successful business in the community.
The very BEST ALCAPURIA’s (Yuca) anywhere! Get them made to order so they are nice & fresh/hot. You can thank me later! Also the Chicharron is excellent! They squeeze some fresh lime over them for a little zest.
First visiting this place (9/30/20). People were in line waiting (went here after work for dinner). To me this is a good sign because it tells me people are willing to wait for the food. Once I was I I order beef with white rice and pinto beans with some empanadas to go. I felt like I was back in Washington heights getting food from local Dominican restaurant. Everything was good, including their service. Como dicen los Dominicanos, una vaina bien!
OMG! I really can't say enough.. In all my travels and Many many Spanish restaurants.. This place is THE BEST! Since I travel and have little time to sit and eat, what matters to me is price and over all food quality. I found it.. Where to start??! I had a small pork shoulder and yellow rice with beans on top meal.. WONDERFUL.. tastes like old school grandparents cooking! Meat was flavorful, well cooked and moist. rice was soft and delicious and beans also! More than a staff just two; the food is well kept fresh and made to look beautiful! Everything looked high quality as you can tell the staff was conscious and concerned with appearance. I also had their piña colada drink which was TO DIE FOR!! That is the best I can describe it! AND for dessert.. tres leches cake... What to say about it?.. Ummmm please mail this cake to me once a day 🤣🤣🍰🎂❤️❤️❤️ Over all: the establishment is small but nice, their staff was busy, but not rude, their prices was reasonable to great and given the quality and flavor of their food.. Totally worth every penny from purchasing to even travel.. 6 stars.. Best Spanish restaurant yet.. A MUST GO!
The empanadas are amazing! Tons of flavor in both the beef or chicken with cheese. Very nice staff and can't wait to go back again

Affordable and delicious! My whole family loves their tostones. My daughter, who lives elsewhere, wants El Latino when she is back in town. Their homemade hot sauce is a must!
Good food good service they are professional and fast all around great place to eat from
Great food at great price. One of the best hispanic food I had. I really their fried plantains
Best Latin food around. I love the black beans, rice, and pork. Mmmmm! I used to live in Miami, Florida, and this tastes like home Great prices. Good service

I used to live in Rochester and stumbled upon El Latino Restaurant, which quickly became one of my favorite spots for authentic Dominican food. The food is consistently delicious, and the portions are very generous. I particularly recommend the roast pork with a piece of crispy skin, as well as the perfectly cooked yellow rice and beans. They even have tres leches cake, which is a must-try for dessert lovers. However, I will say that the ordering process can be a bit chaotic and disorganized, especially during busy hours. The signs with the menu items can be difficult to read, and there isn't much seating available inside the restaurant. Most people take their food to go, which is also an option. Despite these minor inconveniences, I highly recommend El Latino Restaurant for anyone craving delicious Dominican food. Just be prepared to pay a little bit more than you might expect for a mom-and-pop restaurant. And don't forget to try their pastelitos - they are truly amazing!
The food is always excellent! The wait staff is very friendly and helpful. They have, pork shoulder, chicken , pork chops, oxtail and many other interesting selections. Always a busy place. Family owned and operated. McDonalds price for an excellent home made, nutritious meal!
Generous portions. The food is good but, some dishes can be extremely salty 🧂
Authentic tasteful food a little confusing to order mainly take out only a few tables would definitely go back
Being Puerto Rican my self i must say its not bad.. I would visit again, if i ever go back to rochester. Mom cooks the bestbut its pretty good here ,
I love Hispanic and Caribbean food. My favorite place closed suddenly and I ended up driving to the other side of the city to try this place oit. The food was not quite as good as my previous favorite. The prices were slightly less and the quantity about the same. I like the menu selections here and expect to continue to visit for their food. The roasted pork and Bacalau were very good. I recommend them. Enjoy.
I love ordering from this restaurant! The food is sooo good! It's a small restaurant with a family feel. While there's some seating inside, I usually order to go... seating is limited. 9 times out of 10 you can expect to wait in line for a few minutes. Especially during evening hours! The menu is pretty consistent, but sometimes they switch up the quality of the chicken, which is why I have them 4 stars. When I get to the counter, I usually order a medium or large (to go dinner), white rice, beans, stewed chicken, cabbage, and a side of sweet plantains. Delish and a lot of food. It normally takes me at least 2 days to eat a large dinner. Hope this helps. Stay tuned for photos.
Fantastic! There's nothing fancy about this place, but that only adds to the charm. It's a small place with cafeteria-style service. A large is a lot of food, but will give you big servings of 2 meats, a huge pile of rice and beans, and salad for $10. I ordered the ox-tail and the pork shoulder. Both were cooked excellently. If you order the pork shoulder, be sure to ask for some skin. The crispy, salty skin was great!
First time there, great food friendly staff
I was driving back from ithaca and figured while on the 390 why not? My daughters godfather would never forgive me if he knew I was so close but didn't stop for his beloved stewed chicken. The service is always a bit rough around the edges and you'll see signs that are offputting like " don't like our food don't buy it, no returns" but he loved the food and my daughter loved her pork shoulder as usual. Worth it of you're hungry and want good comfort food.
Great location with ample parking. Pretty busy at 6pm on a Monday evening. Staff was handling the rush with zen, so be ready to wait in line if you don’t call ahead to place your order. Almost everyone in line was for takeout 🥡, go figure! But, the big draw here is the food. Very tasty 🤤 authentic Caribbean Creole flavors. Portions are so generous that my wife shared a meal and we both ate to our heart’s content. They don’t have a tip jar 🫙 on the counter, so make sure you yours with the person who takes your order.
I really want to love this place. They are amazing and I think everyone should give it a try honestly. I had to lower my review because the food is so good but for some reason I get sick to my stomach from the rice and beans every time and idk y it's only at this restaurant. I try again every year but it's the same thing. But again I go back every year cause it does taste delicious
Good flavorful food. Always fresh. Portions are a bit skimpy unless you are their people or speak the language which is what I noticed on a couple of occasions but if not you getting what they put in that cup and nothing more! Service is always a bit slow but again worth the wait!
It's a neighborhood restaurant so it has it's highs and lows. Food is ok at times and at other times it's too much sodiun/salty.
Needed lunch after stopping by Costco and El Latino popped up in Google Maps, so we decided to give it a try. REALLY glad we did, because the food is great. The Mrs got a medium pulled pork with rice and beans. I got a large combo of pulled pork and stewed chicken with rice and beans plus their homemade hot sauce. We could not believe how generous their portions were! For under $30 we got enough food for 3x lunch servings and 2x dinner servings. 🤑 If you like great Latino food, you need to go here! 😋
A Must-Visit for Amazing Spanish Food and Friendly Service! I recently had the absolute pleasure of ordering from El Latino Restaurant, and it's quickly become a new favorite! This spot truly shines, offering fantastic Spanish cuisine whether you're looking to dine in, grab takeout, or even cater a special event. On my lunch break, I picked up some takeout, and everything was fantastic. The highlight for me, without a doubt, was the oxtails. They were absolutely incredible—perfectly tender, rich with flavor, and just melted in my mouth. They came served with a side of their delicious rice and beans, which were the ideal accompaniment, completing a truly satisfying and authentic Spanish meal. Beyond the delicious food, the experience was made even better by the friendly staff. Everyone was so welcoming and attentive, making the ordering process smooth and pleasant. I was so impressed that I also placed a catering order for an upcoming event. Knowing the quality of their food and the friendliness of their service, I'm confident it will be a hit! I highly recommend El Latino Restaurant if you're craving authentic Spanish flavors and a wonderfully welcoming environment. You won't be disappointed!
The food was really good, we enjoyed it a lot and it was not Mexican food. I love Mexican food but as Colombian, I like to try other Latin flavours which not always are easy to find. The place is always busy people lining up to get food and is really not meant to eat there. It is more for takeout, when going there take your time as you will be in line. The people who work there take their time to measure the quality of food and they are not rushing which is great. Even if you go there to eat you have to line up, get your food and use the tables that are available. I enjoy a lot the pulled pork and the crispy skin, my favourite the sweet banana plantains
A family owned restaurant right next to the airport in Rochester. This restaurant will become a regular stop for me. I visited a 2nd time for lunch. The food is authentic. It’s very good. You will feel full after eating. The rice and meat will settle in and your ready for a nap.
Really good chicharrones but very busy and slow service . But is worthy the wait\n\nGood beef stew
Yesssss! Ox tail done right! So delicious and flavourful! Clean inside, and Tasty food! The sides are delicious and the wait isn't long. You get so much food For a good price. My daughter and I can…
Food is awesome, if you're not a patient person don't bother. The lines are long and the portions are small. But the pernil ( pulled pork) will have you licking your fingers.
Food is good but the portions are small for the asking price in my opinion. Their size large seems like a medium. I bought the large oxtail and they barely gave me any meat (4 pieces of oxtail to be exact, WTF?) it was mostly rice and vegetables for $12. Definitely not worth it. Their chicken and pork is good and some of the better choices there.
Granted we did come 30 minutes before closing time.. but the line was just about out the door and they were out of yellow rice. There was no beef and potatoes either. The empanadas were too thick and doughy and the backed chicken was over cooked. I was very disappointed because I've heard nothing but good things about this place. There is also no dining in within 15 minutes of closing.
Update: two years after this review, and I don't come to this restaurant unless my friend bought the food for friend from time to time. I decided to give it one more chance. I ordered stewed chicken with yellow rice, and some how, I ended bringing oxtail with white rice home. I was so upset because it was close to closing time. How could you switch food by accident?! I ended up eating the rice with gravy as I don't eat red meat. Original review: Not the best Spanish restaurant you have gone to. The meat was little too salty. Some of Item on the menus are not for purchase. For example, goat was on menu, but it was not available for me to order. The only I like were rice and sweet plantains.
Although the food was up to par the service sucked. I went in with someone. They were making a separate order. So when the lady asked for the next person in line i walked up but she completely ignored me stating i was already ordering. I informed her that i had not yet ordered to which she pretended she did NOT understand english at all. Then they charged the person i was with for my order as well as their own and charged me for my order. When given the receipt i pointed it out and was met with disbelief and dismay. I will NEVER order from there again
This place definitely use to be better, we all know businesses have to watch costs, but I saw them mixing old food with new food and you could tell by the taste. Food is either dry or mushy. They are so slow with there service and why do they charge for a tiny container of homemade hot sauce? That should be a thank you condiment for your customers and empanadas over $5 now?
I got the rice with the oxtails, they literally put the oxtails on a scale and weighed them tell me how cheap can you be? The rice was soft and mushy and everything was too salty, so I couldn't eat it, I was going to get my granddaughter the rice but then I decided no it's too disgusting. The quality is nowhere near where it used to be, unfortunately. And I paid about $30 for a meal in one drink I couldn't even enjoy the salty food.
It's a shame that it's in such a good location but they can't cook. The food is so salty. I haven't been back in a few years due to poor service. I went back recently and the food is terrible. The first time I thought it was a fluke. A friend told me she doesn't go there because their food is salty and expensive. I wished I've listened. Second time more salty. I had to throw away $12 worth of food. A true professional can turn this place into a must popular restaurant in Rochester due to location. Someone should look into it. Their customers come from nearby airport and hotels, Strong Hospital staff and of duty policemen.
Order here all the time. Today I received my Fried Chicken Chunks Dinner and the meat tasted burned or as if it was made in old grease . Worst customer service
I ate there and I felt like the food they gave me had a container of salt on it. Had to throw out \n\n\n Less salt
I ate there and I felt like the food they gave me had a container of salt on it. Had to throw out \n\n\n Less salt
Poor customer service and very nasty attitudes. Had a rude lady that worked there and had an attitude for no reason.
Overpriced, never collard green, menu changes to much. There is more that Latino people in that area. They were great when they first opened. Then they started putting food on scale. That is called Degradation in American. And being Latino they show know that. Fix the plates like grandma and great grandma would do. For love.
I wish I could give them - 0 stars . The fact that there were MAGGOTS in a platter sold to a family , I’d never eat there . They drop food on the floor and SERVE it again . Please see this and be aware to STAY AWAY . You’re lucky if you make it out with JUST food poisoning ! Yuck 🤢
The food here is wonderful, however today we were celebrating a birthday and had a huge order and as soon as we walked through the door it was not a good experience. The young lady with the Red Sox shirt on and hair bonnet today at 5pm might have been having a bad day because of something else going on but the customer service (especially the good customer service we usually get) was no where. She was unprofessional and threw food before we could even say we had more to our order than just what we started out with and then rolled her eyes and sighed at us. I can understand if she couldn't understand us and there was a misunderstanding but she blatantly threw food in front of other customers causing them to gasp as well as us and then she leaned over the counter shaking her head and putting it on her arm as If we were bothering her. As we began to tell her the rest of our order before we could even get a word out she scolded us for her throwing food back into the pan of rice and said "maybe you should have told me there was more before I just wasted food and threw it away" We couldn't even get a word out trying to tell her to save that because we had more before she just got angry. I've been in the restaurant and catering business for many years and from all the years I have been enjoying this place, I won't go back. If an employee is having a bad day maybe they should realize that and take themselves off the line before ruining someone's celebration dinner.
Wowwww!! We been going here since they first opened up however tonight the service ruined it. A young man was training in which we were very patient as it's good for anyone to learn but then it came time to ring us up not once, not twice but three times! Three different transactions for something that should of never went passed the second mistake! The owner who served us numerous times before took no accountability to what was obviously going on and just kept saying oh forgot to add this with a smart smirk each time. I could understand the young man first just taking orders but as far as ringing up everything, leave that up to the regular employees til they get the grasp of things.I've never encountered this here before and it's sad that ruined it for me. Love the food but being treated right is way better!
I was 3rd in line and it still took forever to get service. They move as slow as slow could be. No care to get you in and out. I called ahead of time asked for two pork chops, waited online for 20 minutes for the guy to ask me if I wanted to wait another 15 minutes while they fried them up. Wtf… I’ll never come to this place again. 45 at this point and still no damn pork chops smh.
Received the worse service I may have ever had. The owner was rude when ordering. I asked about a dish I never had before and she rolled her eyes before explaining. I shouldve left then but we all have bad days and dealing with customers sometimes sucks. But that rude attitude has been experienced multiple times. And the food isn't even good anymore just salty meat of your picking.
This place gets so much business, but the service and the atmosphere sucks! They are not real about serving customers... they are phony with it. It's all about the money and not the customer's wants or needs. The food is ok, but the fact that they weigh the meat is a total turn-off, along with the pricing. They need to observe the spot on N Clinton. They are about customer satisfaction. Back in the day, Time Warner catered from them on a regular basis. So, ijs.
This used to be a good place. We went there yesterday and received the worse service. The owner lady was very rude she didn't hear me clearly so she balled her face up and said what while rolling her eyes my wife said. I experienced this too but not as bad when I last went. The food is overly salted the atmosphere sucks only rivaled by the service. The clock is ticking on this place if you like it eat as much as you can as el Latino will soon be el closed-ino.
I went there a few times and was treated with respect, but yesterday there were women I haven't seen before. They were rude, disrespectful, and clearly racist. Waiting on a white Latino man before me, even he said I was before him. Then were RUDE while waiting on me. Then wouldn't put the change in my hand. The audacity of ppl the same complexion and the same hair texture as mine. I will NEVER come back. I'll go to the EAST side
Order here all the time. Today I received my Fried Chicken Chunks Dinner and the meat tasted burned or as if it was made in old grease . Kindly called and asked for a fresh meal and when I was told that it seemed find but I could come by. When I arrived I received the worse customer service. Lady was argumentative and rude. I’m a regular , definitely lost a customer .
Friday 7/12/24 I went to get food after working. I got a stewed chicken & baked chicken with yellow rice I paid $18 & $1 for tip. Quick service no big deal. I literally got home immediately right after I left there. I started eating the baked chicken & what appeared to be tiny grains of rice bunched up was indeed MAGGOTS!! I was so scared & shaking because I cannot understand what is going on. I went to the restaurant to get a refund because I didn’t want to blow them up but I explained to the owner nicely the situation & I just want a refund I won’t tell anyone. But you know what that lady did ? sat there in my face laughing & telling me to leave the facility because it was chicken. I just want money back she said I’m a druggy trying to get their money back!!! Excuse meeeee I felt super disrespected in which I brought my husband back with me because Their son started yelling in my face cursing at me and calling me a liar when I infact had their faces turned sour because they realized it was MAGGOTS. When my husband got there The nasty lady said to me what you want your little $10 back? I said no I want $19 it was $18 I gave a $1 tip. Do you know after they rushed us out they gave us $10.i did not know this as I was agitated and they gave the money to my husband. Wanted to mention how the owner Said we left our food outside & that’s how we got maggots. Anyways we are outside & The male owner came outside with a magnifier glass in broad daylight he realized it was maggots & the wife pushed him back & in Spanish said we gave them their money let’s go. We stopped them & said so is that maggots( in English)?! He turned his nose & didn’t say anything why the wife called the cops?!!!! The son got mad tried to fight my husband as they called the cops to get us arrested. I cannot believe how I was treated because they had flies devour the meat. Their facility needs to be shut down because This is unacceptable. Worst customer service ever. I am disgusted my kids ate some of the food with me & we are terrified we are going to be sick. I read what maggots can do if you eat them.
