Opinions de Magnolia's Deli & Cafe Rochester
The perfect place for a light lunch and some delicious dessert. Their tomato soup is heavenly, I love their quiche, and I've never had a bad sandwich from them. All of my friends and I are obsessed with their cheesecakes. Overall a great atmosphere. I've never had an experience that was bad or even mediocre here, highly recommended!
Honey lime shrimp salad and French onion soup are my stand out favorites along with the rising sun sandwhich and every single cake behind the glass at the checkout counter. They have something for everyone and its all delicious. Extra points and stars for the dog menu! Whoever decided to start offering that is an absolute genius.
Magnolia's Deli & Cafe is a truly perfect little space encompassing much of what the culture of Rochester, NY, has to offer. The interior of the establishment is wonderful crafted making you feel as if you're sitting in the Italian countryside enjoying an espresso on a warm sunny day. The food is absolutely excellent especially the soups and the grilled cheese too is second to none :) The service told - some of the best that I have ever experienced!! This was my first trip to Magnolia's but it certainly will not be my last!!
Charming and welcoming service, great food!
Loved their Honey Lime Shrimp salad today! My go to is their yummy Signature soup and 1/2 grilled cheese combo, but I'm glad I stepped out and tried something new. Service was great too! Didn't feel rushed through lunch and got to really visit with a friend I hadn't seen in a bit.
I got the chicken basil BLT and it is one of the best sandwiches I've ever eaten. Full of flavor, chicken is tender, bacon crispy, nice lettuce amd tomato. I like to test restaurants on BLTs and this place passed the test. Such a nice vibe! I sat outside which I highly recommend! Come eat here!
My croissant chicken salad sandwich was so good I forgot to take a picture! We ate outside which was very nice, and a lot quieter than the inside eating area. So many great things on the menu it was hard to decide! The servers were delightful and patient when we took too long. I will definitely go again!
Pleasant decor but can be noisy. Build your own veggie sandwich is great. They make a nice big sandwich with fresh ingredients. Staff are friendly but very busy. Their desserts look great. We've not had but the espresso drinks are well made .
I would give this place 10 stars if I could! My wife and I stopped here for lunch on a Saturday, as my step daughter recommended it since we were traveling thru this area. The place was pretty busy with only a couple tables open. We did not have to wait, as the hostess seated us right away. Our server was very friendly. I had the Cajun Chicken wrap. It was delicious and frankly one of the best wraps I've ever had in my life. My wife ordered one of their salads, which she also said was very good. The service was very fast. We did not wait long at all for our food to arrive. The atmosphere is very nice. Sort of like an upscale coffee shop. I would definitely go here again. Parking can be a little difficult. We ended up parking down on one of the neighborhood side streets. Pay attention to the parking signs, as some sides have no parking, depending on the day and time.
We had the pleasure of trying several dishes at Magnolia's Cafe, including the pizza, coleslaw, mac and cheese, and strawberry spinach salad. Each dish was absolutely delicious, bursting with flavor and made with fresh ingredients. The pizza had the perfect balance of crispy crust and savory toppings, the coleslaw was crisp and refreshing, the mac and cheese was creamy and comforting, and the strawberry spinach salad was a delightful blend of sweet and tangy. Additionally, Ms. Amber was incredibly kind and friendly, providing exceptional service that made our dining experience even more enjoyable. We highly recommend Magnolia's Cafe for both the fantastic food and the warm, welcoming atmosphere.
We were given a recommendation from a Rochester native.Busy place, but we were given a table quickly. They had tables outside but it was too windy for us. I had your basic BLT which I was looking for. Everyone was satisfied with their meal. Our server was great! Fast, there when we needed her not hovering. She gets a workout! Some great servers in upstate NY!
I don't normally write reviews for places, but Magnolia's deserves a few minutes of my time. I went to Magnolia's with a friend after having not eaten much for 8 days (I was a little under the weather and had no appetite. Also I wasn't in the mood to eat). My friend took me because he hoped the cute atmosphere there would make me feel better. There were plants in the window and cute decorations everywhere. The deli also had solid fall vibes, thanks to some of the more festive decorations. I wasn't really in the mood to eat, but felt bad not eating. I noticed that one of the items on the menu had raspberries. I love raspberries, they're one of my absolute favorites. Unfortunately, they were on a salad and I hate salad. Even worse, it came with an apple cider vinaigrette. I hate every vinaigrette I've ever had. But, there were raspberries so maybe it couldn't be THAT bad. I got ranch as a secondary dressing because I expected the apple cider vinaigrette to be disgusting. When the dish eventually came out, it was very well presented and looked actually kind of appetizing for a salad. I tried a dash of the vinaigrette on my fork and it wasn't bad? So I put it on a tiny section of the salad. When I tell you that this salad was one of the most delicious things I have ever consumed, I am being completely honest. I HATE salad. I HATE vinaigrette. I'm not a big fan of almonds, and goat cheese is eh at best. But when you put them all together??? It creates the most wonderful mash up of flavors. The entire time I was eating the salad, I couldn't stop thinking about how absolutely delicious it was. It is now an inside joke between my friend and I to say "How was __*insert any random thing*__?" "It was good." "But was it as good as that salad?" I cannot more highly recommend Magnolia's. The chefs there really know their flavor combinations and if you want to taste some absolutely delicious food, that's the place you want to go. The salad I got was a special called the Fall Salad. It had lettuce, apple slices, goat cheese, raspberries, and apple cider vinaigrette (it also comes with cucumbers, tomatoes, and raisins, but I asked to not have those). It was absolutely delicious, everyone there is very friendly, and if you're thinking of trying them out- I HIGHLY recommend it.
Highly recommended by our friends in Rochester. Busy place. But the food was great! Our Server was very friendly. The service was pretty quick once we had a seat. Quick walk from the Science Museum where we parked. Since we didn't pack a lunch for our Museum visit. We would defiantly go here again.
Michael our host was the best ever he is SO funny and charming, we all had a crush on him, 10/10 would visit just for michael again. Food was also excellent as always. You guys should give him a raise!
I called to reserve mothers day. The employee who answered was very friendly. Though they were only able to offer seating on a first come basis, she very kindly offered suggestions in the area who offered vegan dishes. Very good experience. Haven't stepped foot in the door.. YET!
The food was so awesome and the people working there were very kind and sweet. Loved the whole experience as we are tourists visiting from Los Angeles and needed good quality, 😋 fresh food. Great choices for breakfast and lunch. Strongly recommend it!!!
Magnolia Cafe might be my favorite spot in town. The French onion soup tastes like it was hand delivered from France. The menu is incredibly diverse, and the prices are exceptionally fair. The dessert options rival places that only serve dessert. The service is incredible. My favorite seat is in front of the mirror by the window. Dana, Renee, and Michelle know how to make every table feel special.
Love the food here. Got a buffalo chicken wrap and mac n cheese and beverage. Love my server Renee, she seems to always be kickin butt every time I come in, and has a great personality.
I love this café on Park Ave! It's always my go to for lunch meeting, Lunch date, or just take out. Food is always good, and the service is amazing!
My friend and I were from out of state and found this great little spot. We really wanted to have lunch at a local cafe and this was exactly what we were looking for. Their menu is huge and they have such a great selection of unique foods and American staples. My friend got the bacon and artichoke quiche, with the tomato soup. I got the Obama special, and we split a caprese flatbread. Everything tasted so fresh which was fantastic. Their coffee and tea was amazing too. Thanks Magnolia's for a great experience. Our server Maria was very sweet!
Magnolias has THE best Greek salad in the city. Staff is super friendly. On the weekends sometimes there can be a wait for a table and/or service, however, that’s to be expected anywhere. Just a good FYI. 11/10 every time. Awesome food, staff and environment.
Probably the best restaurant we've been to in Rochester. The food is fresh, healthy and tasty. Had a few sandwiches, breakfast items, French Onion soup and the Shrimp Mandarin Lime salad... are all on point. Lavender mimosa? I will drink those all day. The staff are all so hip and friendly, genuinely chill people and we love coming here.
Perfect spot for lunch. Stop by for take-out. Everything was labeled and order was correct and ready in 20 minutes during what I would think was a busy time at noon. Also a perk it was open on presidents day (50% of restaurants were not open). On to the food: we ordered 4 sandwiches/wraps all under $12 each. Would love to go back to try other menu items. The sunflower bread was intriguing. Maybe next time. Definitely worth trying.
Bring your pup, they have a dog menu! Make sure not to bypass the dessert case. Even if you don't buy anything it's a feast for the eyes! For app we had the warm bread with oil (they have butter too) it was so yummy. They give you all the accoutrements you need for the oil and vinegar to make it yummy (crushed pepper, herbs, Parm). Then came our half soup/half sandwich, which I had the Obama special (it's my default on a rainy day). Stop by for lunch, you can't be in Rochester and not have Magnolias!
I recently visited Magnolia Deli and Cafe and was thoroughly impressed by every aspect of the experience. From the moment I stepped through the door, I was greeted with warm smiles and genuine friendliness that immediately set a welcoming tone. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, making it the perfect spot to relax and enjoy a great meal. The menu offers a fantastic range of options, each prepared with fresh, quality ingredients. I sampled a few different dishes, and every bite was a testament to the care and attention the kitchen staff puts into their craft. The flavors were well-balanced and satisfying, and it was clear that the deli takes pride in offering both classic and creative dishes. What truly sets Magnolia Deli and Cafe apart, however, is the exceptional customer service. The staff went above and beyond to ensure that my dining experience was flawless. They were attentive without being intrusive, knowledgeable about the menu, and eager to offer recommendations. It’s rare to encounter such a high level of service where every team member seems genuinely invested in making sure you have a great time. Overall, Magnolia Deli and Cafe is a hidden gem that combines delicious, thoughtfully prepared food with outstanding customer care. Whether you’re looking for a quick bite or a leisurely meal, this spot is definitely worth the visit. Highly recommended!
The food was very good. We all had sandwiches and enjoyed them a great deal. One person in our party had the cherry soda and really enjoyed that. We went on Mother's Day for a late lunch and it was still very busy, so the andwiches took a while to come to the table. In a very cute area of Rochester
Both the food and service were fantastic. The french onion soup, tomato soup, egg salad, and sunflower bread were all delicious. (The coffee did taste weirdly more like tea than coffee, so perhaps avoid that. Also, there's literally one bathroom, so that was slightly problematic).
Quality experience. Best sandwich of my life in a cozy atmosphere with outstanding service.
Delicious food, drink and especially yummy desserts! A gem on Park Ave!
Omg amazing! Amber was my server, and she was wonderful! That was the first time I was ever there and the menu was a bit overwhelming. So when she came to the table, I asked her what the best sellers were and she said the cream of tomato, artichoke and cheese (which was to die for!) and the Rising Sunflower (as shown in the photo): Turkey, havarti, lettuce, tomato, roasted red peppers and basil pesto on grilled Sunflower bread. I had two mimosas for brunch and it was Unbelievable!!! I will definitely be back to have that soup again!
The service, environment and the food.. all amazing! The dough guy, Mike, knows how to knead his dough because their pizzas are delicious! We had the Capicola Caprese which has prosciutto, artichoke hearts, red bell peppers and red onions (we added bacon).. which we devoured. I didn’t get a chance to take picture of the whole pizza but I took a close up pic of one of the slices. Definitely a place to visit in Rochester!
Absolutely fabulous deli! We picked them off the map while traveling, and we're delighted we did. A quick phone call confirmed in advance that yes, they know their ingredients and methods well, and I had no problem at all eating there with a food allergy. Portions were ample, with more than we could eat even though we hadn't eaten anything at all yet today and arrived about 2 pm. The deli meat quality was excellent, and we loved our sandwiches. My wife also got a cup of French onion soup and loved it as well. She really liked the Christmas beer she tried, and I enjoyed iced tea with fruit syrup. Our server was friendly and attentive without being intrusive; we liked her! The dining area was attractively decorated and cozy. Very reasonable prices for wonderful food, friendly service, and a nice atmosphere - exactly what we needed after a long drive. All the stars!
It's a cozy and small establishment. However, with the lack of room, the service is made up by the amazing customer service. Especially Mercedes and Meredith, very good people skills and fun personalities!! Will definitely be returning again.
Excellent menu and service. Intolerably noisy indoors for anyone with hearing aids or hearing impairment. Outdoor seating was pleasant.
A hidden gem!! First off, this place is cozy, warm and very inviting. The staff was full of smiles and friendly. The food was fantastic! The tomato, artichoke and Cheese soup to DIE FOR!!! Mmmmmmm. The beer and wine selection had a wide variety... Would recommend this place to anyone in a heart beat! Also very kid friendly!! ...it was soooo good we went back the next day for lunch ... Thanks Ariel for the great service!!
This place has a wide selection of good sandwiches. Tried the Oxford sandwich which was delicious. Chai latte was yum! You can’t leave the place without buying a slice from one of their delicious cakes. Saturday lunch time can be a bit more crowded and might have a 15-30 min wait time. But staff was very friendly and accommodating even during busy times.
We had a wonderful lunch! The salad I ordered- Lime Shrimp salad was delicious. A quaint restaurant/cafe. Definitely will be back!
Great place for lunch or dinner, right on Park Avenue. Indoor and outdoor seating. Extensive menu with tons of choices, great coffee drinks, delicious dessert case & full bar. I've never had to wait to be seated, even on a Friday night. President Obama even ate there when he was in town! Highly recommend their tomato artichoke soup! Everything I've tried there has been great, from sandwiches to salads to pizza.
Typical American fare well done. We had the Magnolia baked brie which was wonderful. Their pizza is very good and they a very good selection of beers, both in draft and in bottles. It can get busy on weekends so call to reserve or you'll likely wait. Service is friendly and efficient.
Dined in as a party of 8, food was delicious and the service was very quick. I would return here, it truly is a magnificent place to grab a bite.
Excellent food. Kind people. The owner, Katie, captures the essence of park ave and Rochester with cozy food and an inviting atmosphere.
Busy when we got there but made to feel welcome. Our food was excellent and came out in a timely manner. Attentive and friendly wait staff
Everything was amazing from the burrata appetizer to the sandwiches and soup. My wife said the tomato soup was the best she's ever had!
First, great as always. I have never been here without it being packed. The sandwichs are great and even when its busy come out pretty fast. I have tried many things on the menu and have been happy with all of them. The waitstaff is friendly and efficient. If I had one issue its the small single bathroom but thats a stretch to find an issue..lol.
Came here for the first time and me and my fiancé were very impressed. Our waitress Ranae was just the right amount of attentive, not too much and not absent. I got the Wisconsin with mac and cheese and it was phenomenal, highly recommend. Fiance got the soup and sandwich deal, perfect amount of salt, maybe a little pepper added would be nice. The latte i ordered was great, would get again. Food was pretty quick, everything was hot with great presentation. Bonus points for their rewards program being so easy to set up.
This is a classic Rochester city restaurant. It looks the same as it did decades ago, and that is a good thing. Lots of different sandwiches, soups, and similar food. Food that is supposed to be hot is served hot. Drinks range across a wide spectrum. It is a bustling place that is lively with a very positive vibe. You cannot beat this place for a delightful and delicious lunch.
Cute place on cozy street. Got to sit outside Service was friendly and prompt. This is a bread/sandwich based biz with focaccia, ciabatta, sunflower bread. Didn't love my rising sunflower sandwich, however. Latte was good hot and there are a few milk options. Tablemate loved her Dartmouth sandwich.
This place is the first place I went in Rochester, and it was a wonderful introduction to this delightful city! Renae is an absolute DOLL- so sweet, so down to earth, so accommodating, but she also had us laughing! The food was fantastic. We had the burrata, which was excellent. It came with a loaf of bread, and not one of those tiny bullshit loaves of bread other places try to pass off as enough bread. This was actually enough bread to eat all the burrata! I got the Figgy grilled cheese and I might not ever be able to eat another grilled cheese again. My husband got a pizza- $10 on Thursday evenings!- and we had the cutest interaction. The pizza got dropped, it seems, so the chef CAME OUT to personally apologize. The replacement pizza was out minutes later- no big deal at all! It was such a nice personal touch. It was so nice to grab a latte and a six pack of beer too. All in all, a fantastic experience. Will absolutely be back if I get the chance to come back to this wonderful city!
We took a drive today up to an antique center in Rochester. When we were finished there and got back on the highway we were looking for a place for lunch and I typed in deli and Magnolia Café came up. We got off the highway and did a couple turns and we were in an absolutely beautiful neighborhood of old mansions. We found the deli and found a parking space and walked in and sat down. It was a nice looking space and it was busy. That’s a good sign. We both ordered a cup of soup and half a sandwich. I had their creamy tomato and artichoke soup with half of chicken salad sandwich and my partner had the French onion soup with a chicken Caesar salad. Both entrées were more than satisfying and the food was very good. I’m saving this place on my Google Maps in case we’re ever back up in this area. Thank you for a great lunch.
Love Magnolia's! The host and waitress were both so kind and funny, so service was definitely very enjoyable. I love the vibe of Magnolia's too- a nice sidewalk cafe with lots of drink options, both non-alcoholic and alcoholic. The cheesecakes and other baked goods definitely tempted my boyfriend and I and I'm excited to dig into our cheesecake that we got to go. I had a half sandwich, half house salad and it was the perfect portion. The fat free raspberry dressing was so delicious. My boyfriend got the Izudin sandwich as well as a side of pasta salad. He said he wasn't even that hungry but still at the hole thing. Will definitely be back!
The place is amazing and has a very nice vibe with families enjoying their time. The music is not too loud. So you can still have a good conversation while nodding your head to the music in the background. The service was excellent. I was served by Liz and she was very kind and helpful. The servers are very caring and they check in on you at regular intervals but not in a way that it becomes disturbing. The food is good. I had ordered the Primavera pizza and though I felt that there was a bit too much of crust the taste was good nonetheless. It’s not the best pizza in town but it’s a good pizza. I was satisfied. The coffee was good too. I had the hazelnut cappuccino and it was good. Liz also explained the dessert options giving some suggestions that was very helpful. I ordered the Lemon Berry Mascarpone and it was amazing! Definitely worth it!! Overall feedback: The experience of dining here will leave you satisfied and I would recommend that people come here. There’s no WiFi at the cafe for public use. Having a public wifi would be even better.
We love Magnolia's! The food is so delicious. The service is great. They were very friendly, attentive and made sure our table was clean and not cluttered. Our food arrived quickly and fresh. This is great place for a quick bite or to catch up with friends for a bit. They also have delicious daily specials. I choice to get the Chicken Bacon Ranch Flat Bread - YUM! we will definitely be back !
When the weather is nice, sitting outside on the Avenue is wonderful. Magnolia's is always good and have remained consistent for many years.
Cute cafe with nice size menu, lots of great lunch options! Kind of busy, but that's to be expected! Great desserts, the pumpkin spice cake was yummy, although I suspect they used canned frosting. Good sized portions! Would visit again!!
Better than average diner food, excellent selection of coffees and teas, and above-average cleanliness. Not a place to linger over coffee and conversation . . . they are anxious to move you out and fill the tables with new customers (and there's almost ALWAYS a line of patrons waiting to be seated), but if you don't mind eating quickly and zipping out, it's worth stopping. I highly recommend their creamy artichoke tomato soup, carrot cake, and hot chocolate, which is truly chocolatey and not watery. (If you're there in winter, wear your coat if you visit the teeny-tiny bathroom, where it feels exactly like you stepped outside into the frigid air.)
Such a funky-cute spot..and they serve alcoholic beverages too! The staff were fast and friendly. I ordered the Antipasto wrap and it was very watery and not very flavorful, but I've had other foods there and they've been really good. I will definitely go back!
The food here was great. My friend and I had lunch before going to the Geva theater for a musical. The server was very nice. The reason for the 1 star is because my gf needed a knife and went up to the counter to ask for one and was spoken to VERY rudely by a woman on the phone. She wasn't speaking to her she asked the girl behind her who brought out our food order to our table. The rude woman said to my friend, "She's not a waitress. What do you want?" She said just a knife, and the girl who wasn't the waitress handed it to her. We told our waitress about it when she brought the check. She apologized for the other woman's rudeness, and we asked who she was, and she was a manager! She said some times she can be that way. Well then, she needs to get out of the customer service and work where she doesn't have to be nice to people. Apparently, this wasn't the only time she had been rude. It's not a good example for a manager named Alyssa. If she was having a bad day, that's one thing. The waitress should have told her about the customer's complaint, and SHE should have come over and apologized. My friend and I are both nurses, so we understand bad days, but we also understand professionalism.
The soup and salad was well portioned and yummy. (I don't eat very big servings) Servers were very kind even though the place was packed. The only reason for 4 stars on the atmosphere is because the seating felt cramped--very close to other tables. Nothing wrong with that, it's a personal preference. Loved the look of the shop.
My partner took me on a quick date here and it was pretty good... An ideal place for salads, soups, pizza, dessert, and sandwiches. The salads looked really good here especially the shrimp & Mandarin oranges. We ordered a pizza with fresh basil and cheese and an egg croissant with creamy tomato soup with artichokes & cheese. The eggs were light and very airy/fluffy & the soup was delicious. We ordered a bottle of Prosecco for $25 & the strawberry cake was excellent & it came with homemade whipped cream. I'll come back and try the salads next time or a panini.
Food was great, loved the fact President Obama ate there, but the sandwiches were a little light on the meat for as much as they were and I would pass on the cheesecake (which is hard since it is upstate NY) but the service was great and the atmosphere was awesome so it made up for the slight deficiencies.
Great service, consistent with quality ingredients. They do well in accommodating food allergies, have gluten free bread but cant guarantee completely gluten free because they do not have a gluten free kitchen (which is definitely common). Reasonable prices. Only downside for me is that it gets extremely loud in there. However, if the weather is nice, they have outside seating.
We recently dined here and started with the chicken vegetable soup, which was so delicious we forgot to take a photo before finishing it (that's what the empty bowl is, lol). For our main courses, we ordered two sandwiches: the Down South (no cheese) and a hot corned beef panini (no cheese) with a side of bacon. Unfortunately, the Down South was a bit of a letdown—it lacked seasoning and flavor complexity, making it quite bland. On the other hand, the hot corned beef panini was fantastic, packed with flavor. I also had a lemon lavender mimosa, which was refreshing and pretty decent. Our server, Renée, was excellent—attentive and friendly. Overall, a good experience with just a few minor disappointments.
My sister and I got the tomato-artichoke soup and it was fantastic. Unfortunately that was the only great part of our meal. I got the grilled cheese with gouda, bacon, apples, etc. It tasted ok. My sister got a Caesar salad wrap and it was not good. The wrap kept falling apart, the lettuce looked soggy and the dressing tasted sour. The worst part was the mac 'n cheese. It looked so good when it came out but it was cold and tasted like stale undercooked noodles. Unfortunately I cannot recommend this place, but I have heard others say it's been good. Perhaps it was just the day that we went.
We went for Sunday brunch. We were seated right away because we chose to be inside on a fairly nice day. The service was excellent. We had one girl who came and took our drink order, another one that came and took our food order, and a third girl that brought out our food in a timely fashion. The restaurant by the time we got our food was pretty busy. I noticed I was missing a knife so I went to the counter and there was a woman talking on the phone so I waited there. The third girl that had delivered our food walked right behind the woman on the phone and I called out to her. She did not hear me, but the woman on the phone said to whoever she was talking to “ can you hold on a second” and she put the call on hold. She looked at me and very disgusted said “can I help you?” I said to her that I was trying to get my waitresses’ attention who was standing behind her and she turned around and saw the woman and said “she’s not a waitress“. She said “what do you need “, again very rudely. I explained to her all I needed was a knife. She gave me a knife and gave me a very dismissive look. I was so shocked. I really didn’t know what to say. I didn’t interrupt her phone call and I was trying to just to get the attention of the girl that bought us our food. I have never been treated so rudely in a restaurant in my life and when I asked the waitress who this woman was that was on the phone when she came to our table later, she told me that she was the general manager, her name was Alyssa. I have two groups of people in my family who owned pretty big restaurants, very recognizable restaurants, in this city and one on the lake, and if their general manager ever treated a patron like that, they would be reprimanded if not fired. I did nothing to warrant this woman being so rude and snotty to me. It might be a while before I go back to Magnolias but I do have to say the food was very good and our servers were excellent. If I was the owner, I wouldn’t want this woman representing me or my restaurant.
This is a very popular restaurant in this area of Rochester as Obama ate here a number of years ago. Seating indoors and on the sidewalk are both available. Our party ate outdoors which was not sideways great since cars would pull up and people would get out almost on top of us. Very extensive menu with a good selection of sandwiches, soups and entrees. Service was a little slow first to get seated, then to place our orders. Did enjoy the sandwiches and the soup. Otherwise a somewhat indifferent experience.
I went for the first time to satisfy a sweet craving and decided on a piece of cassava cake. The cake itself was pretty good but I was disappointed to find that the white frosting was actually fondant. I hoped that they would use real frosting since their cakes look so good. I would go back to try the savory options and perhaps a different slice of cake that doesn’t have fondant.
Had lunch today with a friend, had the southwestern chicken salad ($18) which was very disappointing. The avocado had been frozen and thawed, which I have never in my life come across before, and was tasteless watery spongey ick as a result. I picked my way around the rotten lettuce that was included with the fresh(er) leaves, and otherwise there was some unseasoned corn kernels and some unseasoned black beans and a very small portion of overcooked, dry chicken (I had asked for no cheese). Definitely not up to what one would expect for a lunch entree salad. Sliced red onion, pepitas, actual fresh avocado, some seasoning on the corn and beans (toss with some pico de gallo? cilantro and cumin?), better quality control on the lettuce and chicken, and maybe not so stingy on the portion would have turned this into a 5-star lunch salad. If not for the attentive service I would have given 2 stars.
They have a policy of not seating you until your entire party has arrived. So today i arrived starving and had to wait for my sister to arrive. My mistake! If they gave me a seat I would have ordered an appetizer. So while I wait the restaurant is filling up for lunch. Now my sister arrives after 15 minutes and we can not be seated and are on the wait list. My advice is to only come here if you are all coming together. I am updating this review 2 weeks later because we got a table and the service and food were good. JUst gonna make sure I arrive with everyone next time. Thanks!
The Greek salad was good. I added grilled shrimp and they tasted like hard rubber. The tomato soup was too sweet. Almost like sugar had been added. I will not be returning. Chocolate cake was good. Pumpkin cheesecake was good but the graham cracker crust was too crumbly.
Food was mostly good. The Mac & Cheese was in desperate need of pepper or mustard, something to give it flavor. Grilled ham and cheese with jam was good but to sweet for several bites. The sesame salad was okay but definitely not an $17 price point. Although chicken was well executed. The cake was okay, but nothing memorable. Service was slow but friendly.
Ayr on the side of caution... This was my first time going... My friend suggested we have lunch here. She said she had been before and the food was good and she enjoyed it. Well, I am always up for something new so I thought let's do it! It is a very cute cafe tucked in on park avenue near oxford. Parking is terrible because it's Park Avenue and they have no lot, so it's all on street. That was the least of the worst. I arrived early so I had plenty of time to sit and observe. As you walk in The host greets you politely takes your name or seats you , I was lucky enough To grab the last two seater table against the wall so I was able to observe the Entire restaurant the whole time I was there. I watched the host ask other tables if their waitress had been there yet their tables said no... When the waitress did arrive it was like she was in a Whirlwind daze... When she came to my table I ordered my drink no problem. The place was packed With people waiting at the door so I had high hopes For the food... I studied My menu. Until my friend came And then her and I went over it a second time. I decided what I wanted to eat. I'm ready!! Our waitress comes over to get my friend's drink order... I ask for extra sugar and tell her we have enough cream. And my friend and I continue talking. Our waitress comes back with the coffee and my friend uses the sugar she brought and then we're looking for the cream can't find it?! In her daze she grabbed our cream! Now we have to try to get her attention just to get one creamer after asking her and then waiting another additional few minutes I suggested my friend walk up and get her own cream... As our waitress had moved on to other tables at this point and I didn't want my friend's coffee to get cold waiting... Eventually the waitress comes back to take our order. I Must have confused her with my couple of questions I had. I specifically told her what I wanted my friend said yes. I know that's what you want, but help me decide. So I helped my friend decide and then the waitress brought us 1/2 of the sandwich each of my friend order to eat and soup?? Maybe she should write the orders down?? She wasn't doing that and I believe it had a huge impact on her service and why I never got my food?! It's OK because I didn't like anything anyway... I tried the French onion soup which is my favorite and it was gross oregano as a topper? I have no idea why they thought that was a good idea. Oregano doesn't belong on french onion... It was overpowering and awful. There was also some kind of a sweet taste to it...It was weird?! So I moved on to the Wisconsin cheddar sandwich because that's what she decided I wanted to eat that day... gross! The cheese was not even melted it's supposed to be a grilled cheese!! Then they had a "spread" for lack of a better way to say it on there. It was just not good. Needless to say I should have made my friend go to my first choice for lunch... Who knows maybe if she brought me my correct sandwich I would have at least enjoyed that the world may never know... cheers 🥂
Stopped in for some bagel sandwiches and coffee only to be told the sandwiches were only available premade and sitting in a warmer. Coffee was also extremely watered down and self serve and the only have half n half or oat milk available which was empty. Overpriced soggy bagel sandwiches and weak coffee. I even tipped the guy at the register (why? He did nothing except ring us up) and not even a thank you.
Went with my friends during our winter break. Very nice atmosphere just crowded. I understand lunch hours. Our waitress Meredith was nice in the beginning but that was the last time she was. Never checked on us, never refilled our waters (they were empty!), and left us waiting for the check. When we asked for the check we received an eye roll. That is very unprofessional. As someone who also works in food service I was shocked. Many tables that came after us left before us because we were waiting. The only thing that is saving this place is the food which is very delicious.
7/26/2018 Refused to honor discount advertised at local hotel and declined all attempts to reconcile issue. Kept asking me to document the discount when it was "mention this ad" to obtain the discount. Was like being at the Dept. Of Motor Vehicles. Bad attitude from the woman in charge as well. As it was take-out, I told them to keep their sandwich and salad. There still remain some priincipled individuals in the world. They are not at Magnolia's.
My food was disgusting and expensive I asked for my food well done and It was not a hot sandwich should include cooking the meat not cold it was a disaster and I'm not going back if I pay for something cook it how I like don't rush my dam food uuuuugh what a waste of $56
Food is good… location is good.. service has been good until a recent experience with a server named Amber. She started as pretentious, moved to super passive aggressive mode, to flat out rude. She was obviously having a bad day and misplaced her aggression on a customer. Some people are not cut out for customer service. She took our food order, never came back to take our cocktail order. Gone for 20 min. Brought food, argued with us about why she took the drink menu, she never once checked on us. We never saw her again after that. Unreal. She’s a very unpleasant human that needs help. First find a job that suits you. Amber was one of the worst food servers I’ve ever encountered. Everyone else here is super sweet. I loved this place until recently. Bad service ruined it for me. It’s unacceptable to treat paying customers like garbage.
I was thoroughly disappointed with our recent experience, which is particularly concerning given our usual fondness for this establishment. Our party of three was seated at 12:45 PM and didn't receive food until 2:00 PM, with drinks and a simple order of bread and oil taking 45 minutes to arrive. Despite inquiring with the host, our server, Meredith, attributed the delay to a backed-up kitchen, yet larger tables seated after us were served promptly. The lack of apology, explanation, or acknowledgement from the server was notable. Although we paid the bill in full, the 20% tip was generous considering the subpar service. For the prices charged, customers expect exceptional service and to feel valued. Significant improvement is needed to rectify this experience.
Server Michelle took our order without writing it down and the waiting began. People behind us finished their food, left, another pair came in, sat down and received their food (different waitress) while we were still waiting. Then another pair comes in , again different waitress and received their food while we were still waiting. I see Michelle, ask her if our food is almost ready. She sits down at our table and says I totally forgot your order and I can’t even remember what you ordered. I decided i didn’t want anything at that point but my daughter still wanted her food so she said she would put the order in. Still waited and waited, then saw the hostess and had her check on the order. Michelle comes out after 5 minutes tosses the sandwich on our table-does not say a word to us, no apology , not a word. Never came back to check if we needed anything. When my daughter finished her food, Michelle walks by and tossed the bill on the table and again did not say a word to us. The worst server experience I ever had. My daughter loved her food and the place is very cute but I’ll never go back again. Michelle needs some more training or she needs to go if you don’t want anymore bad reviews. What a miserable experience when I just wanted to enjoy lunch with my daughter. Too many other options in the area to deal with this nonsense. Update: My daughter wanted to go for lunch here on her Thanksgiving break. We went again and this time had a great experience. Renee was our server and was so accommodating and sweet. Wonderful service. What a difference a change in server makes. Thanks Renee!
They continuously give us the wrong order, soups unwrapped (which leak), chicken uncooked and ask for tips for take out...after giving an uncooked, wrong order. The previous owners were amazing... Sad they left.
Had a very disappointing experience, which was unfortunate given all the positive reviews. It was busy due to Park Ave Stroll, and the atmosphere was bustling and had a very fun vibe. There was plenty of seating and our family of 4 was able to get seated right away, but that was about all the positives with this experience. It took over 40 minutes from when we sat and ordered until we received our food. We inquired with our server several times, as we watched several other parties get seated after us and get their food well before us, including a party of 9. The only excuse we received was “we are slammed because it’s Park Ave Fest,” and we did not receive a response when we asked why several others around us got their food so quickly. Maybe it’s just me, but it shouldn’t take more than 40 minutes for two simple kids’ meals and two sandwiches and two soups. We left a standard tip and some written feedback on the receipt, which will probably never get read…
