Opinions de Brown Hound Downtown Rochester
Enjoyed a lovely anniversary brunch with my husband on Saturday. The food and drinks were delicious, the staff and management were helpful and attentive, and the live music was great. Definitely try the chicken and waffles and the pork belly loco moco. We plan to return anytime we are in town.
Went for brunch. Food was excellent. Waiter was attentive without being overbearing. Small, focused, but very good menu. Drinks and food were excellent. They easily made a substitution for some eggs Benedict that made my wife's meal better. It's upstairs, small, and nice, set in the museum which is interesting.
My husband and I could not have been more pleased with our Sunday brunch yesterday at Brown Hound at the MAG! The food was scrumptious and all the staff were just terrific!! ALEXA, CHRISSY, and the very accommodating hostess whose name began with the letter "V"! All three of them were very personable and professional. In giving our kudos to the manager WEBSTER, we realized that it all starts with him! He's amazing. I guess you can tell that we'll be back soon....with our whole family!!
The General manager Webster Blackmon was phenomenal! From the time we walked through the door, service was impeccable. I will recommend this restaurant to all my family, friends,& clients! I had a party of 12 and they made sure the service was wonderful. The food was awesome, the portions was great, the presentation was eye catching, and the taste was superb!!!! I will be returning 😉
I contacted a bunch of places for a BIG lunch party for my wife's birthday. Not only was Webster at Brown Hound quick to call me, he set up the most perfect event for my wife. They set us up in a beautiful separate room at a huge table with amazing service and food/drinks. I can't recommend this place enough, WHAT A GEM!!
My favorite place in Rochester. This place beats the rest due to the best food and the kindest staff you’ll ever meet. Webster, Natalia and Julie all work their butts off to make this place so welcoming. We love you!!! 🖤
I went to brunch with a group of friends this weekend and it was fabulous! Webster was so friendly and accommodating (we were a group of 10). Our server, Tom, was so friendly and fun. Food was delicious and staff was amazing! It was our first visit to Brown Hound but We will definitely go back.
One of our absolute favorite places for brunch. The staff is really friendly and the food is delicious. They often have live music and are so careful and safe with COVID. Local ingredients are important to them so you know you're supporting a ton of local business by eating here. A hidden gem in the memorial art gallery, you won't be disappointed trying out! Good vegetarian options!
This place is adorable and very busy! Reservation is highly recommended. The food was delicious at a very affordable price. They have a smaller menu and limited non-meat options. However, what I had I really enjoyed. The coffee was delicious and I’ll be eagerly awaiting the opportune to return.
Absolutely delicious and plenty. The Winter Bistro Salad was fresh and the red beets and goat cheese was a perfect mix with a fried egg. Atmosphere was fun and service was spot on. Thank you for a lovely time with The Queen Bee Club.
Excellent food. We ordered the biscuits and gravy, and the chicken and waffles. The staff was so friendly and gave us recommendations on what to get. If you're looking for great breakfast, great customer service you should definitely go! Highly recommended.
Brown Hound is not just a great restaurant at the art gallery. It's also a fabulous caterer! While planning her lakeside wedding, my daughter's highest priority was to have amazing food, so we had to find someone who could do something extraordinary. Trish provided a tasting for the couple, a few face-to-face planning meetings, where she was totally open to the couple's vision, and offered great ideas to make it even better. We had special dietary restrictions to consider as well, and Trish handled them all beautifully, and for a very reasonable price. On the day of, her team was really cheerful, friendly and professional, the bar drinks and food were amazing, and each course served right on time. Several of the guests commented that they had never been to a wedding with such great food!
Hosted our baby shower and the service was beyond excellent. Robert and Webster specifically were extremely friendly and accommodating. Brunch food was terrific and fantastic live music added to the beautiful atmosphere. Highly recommend!
My sons and I went for brunch one Sunday, and the food was delicious and the portions were generous. The employees we encountered were also very pleasant! That says a lot, because we dined at a time during COVID when many establishments were short staffed. They could have easily had sour attitudes. I definitely will return!
The host squeezed us in without a reservation. He was very accommodating. Great brunch and great music.
Went to the brown hound for brunch and it was great! The atmosphere is really cool (it's in a museum)! The wait staff were working so hard - they were a little slammed but they still did a great job. They have a huge variety of non alcoholic and alcoholic drinks and they are great. I got the watermelon and pork belly salad and it was so good! they added some fresh basil and mint in there with some spiced almonds and an asian vinaigrette. I would definitely go back just for that! Everyone else liked what they got as well.
While this place is a little tricky to find once you walk in the Memorial Art Gallery...boy is it worth it! We went for brunch, and the portions were quite sizeable! Everything was delicious. I ordered the pancakes and they were fluffy, flaky, and crispy. The service was quick (we ordered mimosas and getting them seemed instantaneous). There were so many options on the menu, I need to go back and try them. Our waiter (you should ask for him!), Roberto, was enthusiastic, super polite, and extremely attentive. If I could have tipped him a huge amount, I would have. It was a great experience. A definite must go!
Absolutely love this place! I can’t stop coming here. The owner is very personable and the staff is super friendly. My mom wanted something that wasn’t on the menu and the owner immediately stoepped in and made an accommodation. This is world class service. Everything is good. My fave lunch spot.
We just had the best brunch! The staff were so friendly and great with the kids. The food is delicious and the live music at the end made it a very special brunch!
We planned a Galentine's event for 13 women and chose the Brown Hound for brunch. We were treated amazing from start to finish. The waiter was so attentive and fun! The food came out all together, hot, and timely! Great experience, will be back!
From the minute myself and my wife felt the people cared about our brunch experience. The staff were pleasant and attentive to our needs . The food was excellent and professional in the serving. The manager welcome us and this continue through the whole meal . I want to thank the entire staff for giving us a very pleasant meal. Also the guitarist was a pleasant surprise.
I was invited to lunch by a friend two weeks ago and the food did not disappoint. I ordered the chicken and waffles, and OMG I received 2 large pieces of chicken and they were crispy on the outside and moist inside. My waffles were cooked perfectly and I could taste the sugar cubes inside them with every bite I took. We were the only people eating lunch in the restaurant that day so the atmosphere was very quiet. My lunch was enough for two people and I took half of it home to share with my husband. Our waiter was attentive and helpful with helping me to decide what to order since this was my first time having lunch here. I’m so happy he suggested the chicken and waffles so delicious. I will be coming back for lunch and dinner.
Went to the Brown Hound for Easter brunch with the family. I'll get right to the point, the food was incredible, the service was a fantastic and the atmosphere at the MAG was great. Went with 2 Adults and 3 kids and there were plenty of a selections for both breakfast and lunch fare, with the waffles being the standout. They simply were the best I've ever tasted. The wait staff was super attentive and made us feel right at home. Can't wait to go back, and we won't be waiting until next Easter :)
We did not have reservations we were 8. The manager said he has 2 groups of more than 4 per group who had reservations in less than an hour but he did not turn us down. He said if we could order quick then the kitchen would not be too rushed or burdened. So we did exactly that and the service & food was great. What a kind manager -accommodating & running the business so smooth. . We are all out of town folks & next time this will be our first choice. Thank you.
Had an amazing lunch at brownhound today! Biscuits and gravy were 10/10. Live music was a nice touch. Despite being busy for the Art sale service was fast and friendly!
We had such a wonderful experience. The manager, Mr Webster accommodated us, a group of 8 at a very busy peak time ( even with no reservations). Our server, Liza provided us an excellent service and answered all our questions and gave us good recommendations from menu. We had such a wonderful experience and would recommend this for anyone who wants to have a good time with lovely staff with a great ambience. Thank you Webster and Liza and the staff!!
My wife surprised me with a trip here on a Sunday after church, & it was a delight! Very low-key vibe. Even had a lounge singer with a guitar & that was pleasant- but this FOOD was amazing! I had the wild mushroom tacos with grilled chicken & white cheddar added. So much flavor! Pickled red onions were such an awesome accompaniment! I also sampled their twice baked French toast thanks to my wife (who had a to-go box from the first time she went). I’m very impressed!
Food is allways Great! The music is nice but it can get a bit loud at times.
Really cool restaurant with a great atmosphere and feel. Very warm staff. The loco moco was fantastic and brought me back to the big island.
We had a wonderful family reunion brunch and our waitress, Julianne, was AMAZING! We had several changes to dishes, extra add-ons, special requests with dietary issues and a large party, but she nailed it! Everything came as ordered! And she was so friendly and attentive! The food was amazing and the atmosphere wonderful! Thank you for a really special meal and attention to service!
Here yesterday attending Kwanzaa event in Memorial Art Gallery. Wanted to eat something in order to take my allergy medicine only to discover they just closed. The young lady advising this then went to her manager who gave ok for soup. Greatly appreciate your willingness to accomodate. Btw: soup was absolutely excellent!
Great food! Upscale environment with live music playing downstairs.
Some of the best food I have had in years! The beef tenderloin was EXCEPTIONAL - cooked to a perfect rare for me, and medium rare or well-done for others! There was a pasta with wild mushrooms dish that was extraordinary!! I will go to Good Luck in the hopes that it will be on their menu!! All the food was fabulous from appetizers (shrimp was the highlight) to desserts!! Bartenders and servers were also remarkable - polite, professional, non-intrusive, and pleasant. I would HIGHLY recommend this venue for any private party.
Brown Hound takes such good care of me. I'm a traveling nurse from another state but I feel right at home when I eat here. I had the pleasure of their Easter Buffet AND Mother's Day brunch. Both were amazing. As someone who is traveling alone, they have been able to find a seat for me on those really crowded days and for that I am so grateful!
When I think of my experience at the Brown Hound, my first thought was how wonderful the staff was. I went there with my sister who uses a walker. The staff went above and beyond to help us out. The food was also fantastic!
Unbelievable! While visiting our daughter at Univ of Rochester found the most incredible restaurant! Live acoustic music as we ate! Barb (from Minnesota) was our server and she was spectacular! Best brunch we have ever had! Stuffed French toast! Eggs Benedict! Chicken and waffles and cheddar biscuits to die for. This is a must stop eatery for every visit to Rochester!! Did I mention it’s located in the Memorial Art Gallery!
We made our way to Brown Hound after the location we planned to have breakfast at was unexpectedly closed. We didn’t have a reservation and luckily we were seated right away. We ordered drinks and waited a bit for those, which was more than okay because everything on the menu sounded incredible and we had a hard time deciding! Prices were a bit high, but what I expected for the location being in the MAG. Food did not disappoint and my Bloody Mary was deceivingly large.
The Brown Hound Downtown catered an event at our brand new luxury apartments, Dunnwood Green in Pittsford. We cannot say enough about the great food and service. We had outstanding vegetarian options as well as perfectly cooked, delicious steaks and tasty side dishes. The desserts were decadent and so very pretty! The team was lovely, helpful and very passionate about making our event over the top special.
Probably one of the best places for brunch, in Rochester! Their menue changes seasonally- however, their amazing eggs Benedict is always on the menue! I especially love their spicy hollandsise sauce! Their French toast with rhubarb and custard filling is mouth watering- I recommend eating it without the maple syrup first... it’s perfect on its own. Service is always fast and friendly. Food is consistently delicious!
I had a great visit to Brown Hound Downtown at the Memorial Art Gallery! The chicken and waffles were really good, and Allen Sanders, our waiter, made the experience even better with his excellent recommendations and engaging personality. We were warmly greeted at the door by Webster Blackmon, whose calm and kind welcome set the perfect tone for our visit. Great food, wonderful service—I’ll definitely be back!
Our four-member book club met here today, and had a delightful time. From the moment we entered on the first floor, we were so impressed by the kindness of all the employees -- the manager, all the servers (not just our own), the young man who worked at the counter downstairs. Knowing we'd be discussing a book, they offered us a special quiet table away from others, allowing us to hear each other so much better than any other restaurant we've been to. All four meals were delicious. Our server even offered to take photos of our group. It was just such a feel-good experience in every way. A tip of the hat to all employees!
Great food, service and atmosphere. Recommend biscuits and gravy, and their fried chicken.
We thoroughly enjoyed our time at the Black History Month Celebration at the MAG and were exceptionally pleased with the food, service and hospitality at the Brown Hound Downtown.
The food here is high quality. The service is friendly and attentive. The atmosphere is the selling point— very well decorated, there is often music, and everything feels cozy. Weekend brunch is a fantastic experience.
The Brown Hound Downtown (Rochester NY) was warm on a very cold winter night. Our waitress, Juliana, was friendly and showed us around, including the Ballroom and Parlor. Our food, Winter Apple salad with grilled chicken and Pasta Primavera with grilled chicken, was wonderful. Our dessert, Cheesy Eddie's plain cheesecake topped with house-made berry topping was creamy and smooth. We will definitely return.
I got the classic chicken and waffles and it was divine. The blueberry sauce was the perfect addiction and elevated the dish immensely. Our server, Robert, was a delight and he took such good care of us. There was live music which added to the atmosphere and this was an overall lovely experience. Will come again!
The food is great here. Wonderful restaurant to go to especially when visiting the MAG. The staff is kind and professional. Try their chocolate chip cookies - they're the best in all of Rochester hands down. Live music on Saturday and Sunday!
Was visiting the area from out of town and stopped in for brunch over the weekend. Service was friendly and attentive, ambience was pleasant, and the food was fantastic! I had Web's Loco Moco and I was very impressed by the great cook on the pork belly - tender meat and crispy skin. Also had a wonderful french toast latte. If I'm ever visiting the area again I will absolutely eat at this gem again!
I wish I could leave 100 stars. My dog was diagnosed with osteosarcoma Friday, which will be fatal. This restaurant had no idea. I called Friday to make reservations and everyone was immodestly warm and welcoming. My dog is almost 200 pounds so when a place says “dog friendly” they aren’t always so friendly when a mini horse shows up. Webster and the staff were SO incredible. We sat outside and were swarmed by bees and immediately the manager and staff made a place for us inside - even with my Boomer boy. The drinks and food are out of this world. I’m so incredibly thankful for the kindness of everyone at this restaurant. The live music is just an added layer of an amazing brunch experience. Thank you SO much!
Phenomenal service and food. Webster is a fantastic guy. Checked on every single table to make sure everyone was enjoying their meals and if there was anything he could do. Our server was quick, friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. Very different spot than the norm inside the museum which makes it even more unique. Prices were fair as well. Thanks for the great experience guys! Will be back!
Nice little restaurant inside MAG. I always take a break from the art galleries and have something to eat, then return to finish exploring the work of the artists. Food is good, staff is helpful and attentive. When it is busy, be patient, you can see they are doing their best trying to keep up. Nice little place.
We have taken two family trips to Rochester over the past few years as a mini-getaway from Toronto. This restaurant has provided a great dining experience for us every time. Reception is always welcoming and professional. The staff are polite, responsive and accommodating and the ambiance is very inviting as it is located in a cozy area of the Memorial Art Gallery. We highly recommend this restaurant to visitors and locals alike. This is our go-to restaurant every time we visit Rochester. To make things even better, there is great live music! Well done Brown Hound Downtown! We will be visiting again soon! Best, Leonard & Barbara
My family and I grabbed a quick brunch at Brown Hound. We were seated and greeted immediately which was great because we were so hungry. For drinks, we ordered mimosas and a mule. Both drinks were very refreshing and I also enjoyed that Brown Hound has 5 different mimosa options. For brunch, we ordered the the bird dog sandwich, spring bistro salad, chicken & waffles. OMG, the bird dog is a must try! The chicken was tender and very crispy, cooked to perfection! The chicken and waffles was also delicious! The salad with grilled chicken was flavorful as well and all of the dishes we ordered was very filling. I have to shoutout Webster for the amazing service and always checking in on us throughout brunch. If you are in Rochester, this is a must try for brunch!
First time at this establishment & it was amazing! The staff was extremely attentive & very nice! The prices were good for the quality and amount. We ordered the party pack for the mimosas, the fritatta special, the Hound Dog Hash & the biscuits&gravy. Everything came out fresh and was delicious. The pork belly on the hash was cooked to perfection..the first bite I took I melted on the inside a little bit. They also had live music towards the end of our visit, so we were able to just vibe out & finish our mimosas. Would definitely recommend for a nice brunch with friends or a date day with a loved one 😊
Such a perfect brunch in Rochester! There were four of us dining on a Saturday morning. The menu is seasonal and with the freshest ingredients. I had the Fresh Picked Frittata, which was tasty. I especially loved the home fries. Staff was pleasant and food came quickly. Definitely recommend.
Went out for brunch for the first time here with two friends. Very cute upstairs space, and the staff was super nice. I ordered the carnivore frittata which comes with home fries and fresh fruit - it was so good, and kept me full the rest of the day! We also ordered a mimosa carafe to split between 3 of us, and it was the perfect amount. I would definitely come back!
The chicken and biscuits was delicious! They get 5 ⭐!!!! The party pack mimosas is just a carafe of OJ and a bottle of champagne. You will have to figure out how to split it equally is splitting between 6 people. The menu is very small so make sure you look at it before you go to make sure they offer you something you want. The pancakes looked good with nice browning on the outside.
Within the rochester memorial art gallery, you will find this lovely cafe and restaurant. This fresh and crunchy fried cake was filled with tart raspberry jam which paired perfectly with the sweet and crunchy outside. It was so decadent I ate it with a fort and knife. Paired it was an almond milk latte, the espresso was quite good as well. The staff were great and I spent quite a lot of time having wonderful chit chat with the waiter about art and African and Asian mythology. If you haven’t been here yet, you won’t be disappointed.
The Brown Hound has a lovely atmosphere and the staff was so attentive and welcoming! We went for brunch this Saturday and there was even a band playing live music that was very enjoyable!! However I didn't think the food was that great - it honestly reminded me of airplane food. The frittata was alright, but most of the meal consisted of the home fries that were bland and dry. And I was disappointed by the side of fruit, which reminded me that even though the restaurant looks so nice, it's still just museum food. HOWEVER I watched the servers bringing out food to the tables downstairs and some of the other meals looked way better! Maybe I just ordered the "wrong" thing! If I came again I would definitely try the french toast which looked really special. I very much enjoyed the atmosphere but overall I thought the food was rather bland.
Nice place! Clean, bright and pleasant! Service was excellent- friendly and attentive but not smothering. Food was good, but in our opinions, not great. I'm a big fan of Poutine, and after a visit to Hawaii I also became a fan of their similar dish, Loco Moco - and variants of both were on the menu. The Tennessee Poutine featured pork belly, and I was right that eggs over-easy on top would make it better. It was good - maybe a little salty for my taste. The thing with Loco Moco I have is, given the choice between rice and a potato - I'll usually pick the potato. I thought it was a little dry, needed more sauce, and we both thought the pickled onions were a little "oniony" and not pickled enough. Certainly not inedible, good not great for us.
4.5/5 Breakfast Bliss: Brown Hound Downtown Saturday morning led us to Brown Hound Downtown, a hidden gem. Charming decor, cozy atmosphere, and bustling energy set the tone. Our server was attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly, making recommendations and sharing stories. Delicious food, expertly brewed coffee, and extraordinary service sealed the deal. Attentive staff made our breakfast experience unforgettable. Highly recommended; we'll be back!
This place is all around a good spot, and they are very busy. Staff were friendly, food was good, coffee was great. My problem is their menu is very limited for brunch and doesn’t have very many breakfast options. There are people in these reviews that talk about corned beef and hash, or eggs Benedict. Neither were on the menu when we went. I had chicken and waffles that were very good. Overall it was a fine place, I would go back.
While this restaurant is very difficult to find, it is well worth finding it! I parked outside the main entrance to the art gallery and walked in to the back right of the building to find this restaurant. While our server was a little clueless, he was very kind and quick to make any thing that happened funny or to make it right. We met the owner, who was incredibly generous, and actually blessed our table with free desserts. I loved the simple menu and everything we tried was phenomenal and made extremely well. Definitely will go back and try some other options as well.
What a surprise of a treat to find this place in the MAG (Memorial Art Gallery) in Rochester. It is such a great venue with the influence of art and modern chic. Perfect for brunch. For starters we had a charcuterie board and some lobster bisque. By the way the coffee is excellent. Then we had the carnivore frittata and the shrimp and grits with 2 eggs. So delicious. The portions are generous. Almost too generous. I thought the service was great and the venue promotes great get-togethers.
Food was greatttt, hot chocolate was good too. I will definitely go back but not if i have Robert as a server 😂 I’ve never had a server come up and say “hey, what did you tip me?” then once I told him I tapped a percentage not a specific dollar amount, he tried to say his reasoning for questioning is because he’s an “old fart”, then condescendingly complained about the amount he was tipped 😂 I did let someone in the establishment know of what happened but I’m not sure if anything was done about that. Great food, quick seating, Robert? ehhh
Solid 3 star place. The service was good and the wait staff were friendly. We visited for brunch and overall for what you get the prices are a bit steep. We also had a plain weird experience which prevents me from leaving a better review. We ordered the ricotta pancakes and while they looked beautiful 2 of the 3 pancakes were undercooked and still quite raw in the middle (if you've ever made pancakes you know this can happen when you rush the cook time). The waitress agreed they didn't look right and took them back. She came back to let us know the chef said that's how they were supposed to be, due to the ricotta. That didn't seem to be true, since the batter in the middle was still raw in 2 of them, but the 3rd was cooked through...it also tasted like raw pancake batter. It was a bit frustrating to hear an excuse like that from the kitchen. Things happen and sometimes gets messed up, but it's better to say "whoops our bad" instead of making an excuse. Again the waitress was very nice and I think she knew there was some BS coming from the kitchen, she provided free passes to the art museum which was nice as well.
Believe it or not, there is such a thing as too much service. The wait staff can be overattentive, frequently breaking into the vibe of trying to comfortably engage with your companions. Also, I highly recommend that the band turn down the volume. Who wants to compete with that at 10:00 a.m.? And the food? Good, but not remarkable at that price point.
Had brunch with a large group here. The food was delicious and came out relatively quickly for the size of the group. The french fries had great seasoning on them!! The server was nice but spread way too thin running from the kitchen upstairs down to the atrium tables where we were, so service lacked (not her fault necessarily). Prices were reasonable. Atmosphere was beautiful! Live music was a nice touch. The gallery bathrooms near the restaurant could have been a bit cleaner.
Members of my family enjoyed their food more than I as I didn't like my food at all and gave it to family. unfortunately no one was ecstatic or had that ..yea we will be back for brunch again. The service and all had people at least wanting to try dinner. The musician was top tier!
The food is ok, the coffee is not. I wouldn't really recommend this spot if you're looking for the best brunch spot in Rochester though. The staff was friendly, our waitress was super new, and I'm sure she will get better with time. The place is bright and beautiful. I agree with the chef that posted about the food. It's ok, but if you can cook and your accustomed to hot food, maybe skip this place. It seems more about the esthetic than the culinary experience.
Birthday Brunch My spouse and I had the chicken and waffles with bacon and potatoes. Chicken very crispy thigh meat but chewy and dry. Waffles, highly resemble the ones you can buy pre made on the shelf at some grocery stores. The bacon was oddly sweet and sticky. Waffle weren't hot or toasty. no butter, cold syrup. The potatoes plain and bland but that may be a rochester thing. The bloody mary wasn't the greatest but not awful. The bottle of Cava was very good. Cute atmosphere but other than that I can't say if I'll come back. Friends had biscuit and gravy it looked good. They enjoyed it. In my opinion the price is a bit high for the quality. I am a trained chef so I might be a bit picky when it comes to the details like hot food or warm syrup.
Went for dinner and really appreciated several aspects of the experience. The decor is lovely, and the menu lights up when you open it—something I hadn’t seen before. The chairs on the untaken tables were arranged beautifully, and the balcony room offers a nice view of the museum. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. The balcony was a bit dark, so next time we might choose the inside room for more light. The food was basic and didn’t quite stand out for us, but it was still nice to get out and enjoy the evening.
If you like canned mandarins, this is the place for you 😂 They could write in the menu seasonal fruits, and not use all of year long, in their salads and also their sandwiches canned fruit 😳 Bed Coffee, tastes like instant coffee, and not like espresso. The chicken salad was OK good service - they were terrace were very nice
My burger tasted okay, but the patty did not fit on the bun and I ended up making a mess of myself and got sick afterwards. Additionally, my girlfriend ordered a large soup, but received what most other places would call a small. My girlfriend has eaten here twice (once she got eggs, the other the soup) and has also gotten sick twice, so we will not be coming back here anytime soon. For the price we paid, we could have and should have gotten better food elsewhere. However, all of the wait staff were very friendly, and we did enjoy their conversations which saves this review from 1 star. To the owner, please work on your food. I have no idea why we got sick, but considering my girlfriend is 2/2 for getting sick here, there may be something to improve in the kitchen, or with the food. You have a wonderful staff and are in a great location, so I hope you figure it out.
My sister chose this place to celebrate my birthday this past weekend and while the food was amazing the service was horrible. We all enjoyed our food and drinks - Very farm to table feel with the heartiness of the food! The service was very lacking. They were not very busy and had what seemed like more than enough servers on. We informed our server we would need the checks split and was told he could do it. After 15 minutes he returned and said he did not have the time to split it so we would have to do it ourselves. While confused we did and wrote out what check each item went on (it was being split into 4 checks). He returned and looked at how it was split and walked away with the check. After an additional 15 minutes he returned and said he would be unable to split the checks. At this point we were frustrated - if the check was unable to be split originally we would have understand and would have had no problem but waiting and being told it could and waiting an additional 30 min to pay was ridiculous. We totaled what each card was to be charged, wrote it on the check and gave it back to him. A manger never once came over to talk with us about the horrible experience. Would love to say I’d return because of the food but I won’t because of the service.
Was very disappointed that the staff had no proper sanitation/hygiene training or common sense when it came to the matter. I asked for a Bloody Mary. Where I was sitting I could see the server making it. Apparently he was new bc he had a senior staff watching as he made the drink. I did not see either staff wash hands or PUT ON GLOVES. Instead of the bar having tongs for the cocktail garnish, They used the toothpicks to dip into the jars (filled almost to top with liquid) to pierce the olives etc. He struggled for a while of course getting very close to contaminating the jar by his bare fingers going into the liquid. He did not, but he did the proceed to use his bare fingers to push the garnishes onto the toothpick!! I guess he didn’t have it right and the staff person overseeing him then took HIS BARE FINGERS to adjust the garnish!!! I was disgusted. The only reason I didn’t say anything (the manager checked on us later in the meal which was nice) is bc my date had bad anxiety and I didn’t wanna trigger him. After all we went through with Covid it’s extremely disheartening especially in a restaurant setting not to see proper safety precautions. So easy to throw gloves on or use tongs!!! Come on!
*terrible* coffee, the espresso and latte taste like instant coffee. The latte was extremely weak, the extra shot requested wasn't strong enough to defend itself... ;) but seriously, this was really disappointing. The side salad had canned!! mandarins instead of only fresh fruit. The tofu wrap had a schnitzel like tofu, sorry, not good. I hardly tasted the pickled peppers, the bread crumbs taste took over the entire thing. The chicken salad sandwich was reported to taste ok. Could be a lot better.
