Been here 3 times now thanks to Groupon. Sushi is always great! Typhoon roll is definitely my favorite so far. Will be back to try more.

Miss the sit down experience because the restaurant looks very warm and cozy inside. The young lady at the front was very pleasant and it was nice to be served with a mask on... extra star for that! First time ordering from here, got the food home and it was amazing. Gave enough wasabi and ginger for my sushi where I didn't have to scimp on each roll, flavor was outstanding. Prices were very reasonable which is one reason I decided to try them. Can't wait for indoor dining again, this will definitely be one of the first places I go.

Service was awesome here! We showed up early in their hours and they were still getting everything set up and we still felt very welcome and helped. We also had lots of questions which our server was happy to answer. The food itself was another story entirely.. Which I mean in the best way! Best sushi and best prices in Rochester! They have very traditional rolls with a few new ones thrown in every week. This is our go to place when we are craving Sushi! The staff is always nice and helpful with any questions you might have. We order out at least once a month!

Staff is polite and knowledgable, the sushi rolls are to die for and they have a great selection of sake. The atmosphere is warm and cozy, and the food comes out quicker than any sushi place I've been in Rochester. Not to say it is rushed, as the food is always fresh and delicious! Lovely place and the Groupon is a steal!

An absolutely WONDERFUL environment. Everything came out to perfection. The staff was friendly, made you feel like a regular even if it is your first time going there. Came here on a Saturday night and was able to get a table immediately. Service was efficient ambiance is nice but the food is AMAZING! Best sushi I have had in a long long time. So fresh and full of flavor (something a lot of sushi places lack in Rochester to be honest). New go to sushi spot. Also the lady and I are stuffed and we are paying less than 30 bucks. Got a sushimi platter a roll and an appetizer.

Our little family's go to restaurant for special occasions/celebrations. Love the owner, he is awesome - the best laugh ever!! - waitstaff are great. My guys love sushi, we often order "the boat", (sushi for 3) and I like the combination dinners. Love the warm napkins they give you upon arrival, and love the miso soup - and salad. They have been great to us, we always leave happy.

Great sushi. Fun small restaurant feel. I recommend you sit at the bar and talk with the chefs. They would make sushi and give a few samples out as we sat there. If you like spicy try and challenging them to make something spicy. It was worth the burn and the laughs we had with the chefs.

Delicious Sushi rolls and Lived the miso soup. My favorite Boston roll, Alaskan roll, vegetable roll and Florida roll. The service was friendly, helpful,knowledgeable and excellent. I can't wait to go back. They were even kind to my daughter which I can't say for some restaurants.

Best sushi you can get for the price in Rochester. Every time I’m in time I have to stop in. Absolutely recommend any of their rolls and their Kani Salad is the best I’ve had.

I have been here a handful of times recently with my daughter and also my whole family. They are convenient to Eastman music school and Strong Museum of Play. While they don’t have AYCE, they do have some great lunch specials, which might as well be AYCE because they give you plenty to eat. The rolls are very fresh and delicious. Presentation is very professional. The waitstaff is touch and go, sometimes the service is exceptional and other times decent. It depends on who is working. We’ve never had a bad service experience here, but some staff are more friendly than others. The times we have gone, the time between ordering and receiving our food has always been point on. Finishing soup/salad when the rolls were delivered to our table. I highly recommend Plum House for any sushi craving.

Really solid sushi place. They have plenty of other offerings, but we usually come just for sushi. Highly recommend the Godzilla roll and the Red Dragon roll. Service is always prompt and pleasant. The overall ambiance is lacking, but I'd be lying if I told you I came here for the atmosphere. I'd eat their food on the street corner if there were no other options. Parking can get interesting, but that's the Monroe Ave area in a nutshell for ya. They do a ton of takeout too, so don't be skeptical if the dining area isn't full. That's not uncommon.

My favorite place to eat in Rochester! The server Tricia is extremely personable and kind, service is very quick. Very good signature rolls and teriyaki style dishes packed with flavor. While there are a few good Japanese places in Rochester this one’s my favorite.

Decided to order Plum House for the first time. The food was so delicious and did not disappoint. The rolls were fresh & the combo really had a lot of value for the price. I do wish the tempura veggies were a bit smaller as they were huge pieces of veggies. As well as the chicken - it was more grilled cutlet style than chicken chunks. Still everything was great! Everything was packaged intentionally and truly was delicious! This will now be my sushi rotation & where I order take out!

I’ve been to this many times over the years and it’s maintained a good value for the food you get. Today my wife wanted sushi so we stopped in for lunch. They have a lunch menu which has to be the best deal in sushi for the price. I got a sushi sashimi combo for like 17 bucks and my wife got a 3 roll combo (where she could pick from a large list) for like 12. For sushi that’s great. The pieces of fish on the sushi seems to be a “lunch size” but it’s still good. My wife commented on the tempura roll being one of the best she’s had. If you want soup or salad with these combos like you’d get at other places it is only a dollar extra. I like the soup and salad but I’m there for the sushi. The sushi is well prepared and came out quick so a lunch for work is totally doable.

Everything was so enjoyable! Our server, Tricia was incredibly helpful and attentive. Every restaurant should have someone like her! My Teriyaki Steak Dinner was delicious and came with a variety of sides with lots to take home for later. My family loved their sushi dinners as well. We will definitely be back.

Went with a friend for a quick meal before our 8pm show at Eastman Theatre. We had excellent and very quick service. We arrived a little after 6:30 and must have beaten the crowd. We ordered hot Saki and sushi from the Chef Special Roll. I had the Yummy Yummy Roll and Banzai Roll. They looked like a masterpiece on my plate and were both absolutely mouthwatering and delicious. It was the first time my friend had sushi at the Plum House. He had the Oxford Roll and the Amazing Roll. He was amazed and said it was the best sushi he has ever had. The rolls were a nice size and filled us both up. We were in and out within the hour and arrived at the venue with at least 10 minutes to spare.

This has to be the quickest sushi place I’ve ever been to. 4 rolls and it took at most 10 minutes?!?! AND THEY WERE AMAZING!! The waitress was very sweet and funny too. I was full after one roll. I would definitely go back and add it to my go to sushi places!

Got there an hour before closing & had a delicious meal. Food came out quickly. Between two people we ordered 7 rolls & they were all amazing. The salmon was really soft & fresh tasting. What stood out most was that the rolls were not heavy on rice, just enough to provide an outer layer & not dominate the roll. If I am back in Rochester again, I will definitely eat here again. Yum!! Food is honestly really good. Reasonable sushi roll prices! Between $4-$12 depending on if it’s basic or a specialty. They have a funky dude right at the front counter- he’s a fish, his name is sagiban! If you have the opportunity to sit at the sushi bar- do it. The dudes that work there are actually pretty chatty once you cozy up to them, the service is quick but for some people there may be some language barriers. They have fresh brewed green tea for after your meal too. All in all. Great deals, good food, good service, clean environment, and in a lovely location. My only complaint would have to be that it’s a small place, so some nights there’s quite a wait and no real room to stand without being in someone’s way or all up in someone else’s personal space.

Fresh offerings with a wide variety of rolls. Some unique offerings. There's a reason why they've been a Monroe Ave staple. Consistently good sushi but fish cut portions have grown noticeably smaller yet the cost has increased. Most sushi joints give you two pieces per order; only one piece here.

I was surprised when I opened my order and saw a lot of mixed rolls which included- avocado, cucumber, imitation crab, cream cheese (many things I associate with Cali style sushi) which resulted in a majority of it not being eaten (would have liked more details when ordering off of delivery/pick sites/apps); based on the short time I was in the restaurant the hosted was welcoming and kind and the feeling of the place at the time was peaceful.

Atmosphere here is always cool, calm and collected. The servers are excellent. Most importantly, the sushi is delicious, albeit a little pricey. However there's no greater tasting sushi in Rochester except for possibly Stingray Sushifusion's food truck.

Hot afternoon lunch, the restaurant was a bit warm, but as we were the only ones there it didn't make sense to waste energy on AC. Ordered from the lunch menu, I had the veggie rolls, my wife the salmon. I also had two pieces of nagari, my wife the dumplings. It was a lot of food, all tasty. As we sat at the counter, we were also each given a piece of spicy tuna that was excellent. Walked out full with leftovers for $30.

Dumplings were amazing as well as the yum yum roll and the full moon roll! Kamikaze roll was a little bland. Otherwise great sushi. Would definitely go back.

Friendly staff and fresh sushi. One of the best rolls I've ever had (titanic, I believe?) A blind couple had come in and even though it was super busy, the nice waitress walked the couple out of the door and down the street a bit to make sure they were safe. Ugh, right in the feels. One of the Asian women that was refilling the water was a little abrasive, but other than that it was nice. Good little place to support.

My girlfriends introduced me to this place. I've never had sushi before. Now this is our go-to spot and the food is delicious. The Blossom Roll is my favorite. The staff is friendly and accommodating. Parking may be an issue sometimes due to its location but I usually can get a space on the next street. A great experience and great food every time I am there.

Although they do not do justice to the Japanese food. I do appreciate the effort put it by them. I judge japanese food on the basis of was I which is served, and most of the 'wannabe' restaurants do not give the authentic Wasabi, and plum house does the same. They do not have the authentic Wasabi, but they are getting there. I can understand that Wasabi can be expensive but if you want to be ready with an Agame try good food. The oyakodon is something I would not recommend as it sub par. Sushi is good. Tempura is okay, the one u had was too greasy, which happens when you don't heat the oil enough. Overall okay.

It was okay. We got the Special for 2 and there was 1 chefs choice that was absolutely amazing. keep note that they serve fresh sushi (not chilled) and I much rather prefer chilled. The glasses we recieved were covered in grimey fingerprints and one had a mark of lipstick. On top of that they did not serve straws with our drinks. I will most likely not go again. But our experience was not the worst.

I usually get the two or three roll special which is a good price. I stopped getting the sushi lunch because it's chefs choice and chef chooses to serve pairs of nigiri sushi while I prefer all different. It was good, fresh. Somewhat average this time. I'll go back though I'm still trying new places when I can.

I usually go here when they offer a groupon deal. Their sushi is decent -- definitely not anywhere near the best I've had in Rochester, but also totally enjoyable. To give you a sense, it's hard to find a special roll without cream cheese. Not that cheese cheese is bad or anything, but it's not the sort of thing I usually like in my sushi.

It's been a long time since I stepped into this place, and the 1st time since new owner took over years ago. Menu had similar items as everywhere else, but small details were not done too well. I'm from Japan, from a family of the sushi restauranteur of three generations in Tokyo. So maybe my comments are too harsh. But the most delicate parts are what makes the Japanese dishes Japanese. Gyoza pieces were very slightly under seared, steamed shumai dumplings were tossed around upside down in the dish, rolls were packed a bit too tight, and the beer was not ice cold. Still, my friend and I had good time, and we finished most of our dishes, and the price was very modest. A convenient location, pretty good seating capacity, and you may just find this place super nice.

SUPERB FOOD, HORRIBLE SERVICE!!! The food was fantastic! Some of the best sushi I've ever had. However, the service was terrible! Our party's dishes all came out at different times, the last one more than 15 minutes after the first. Our server barely apologized and mostly made excuses about delivery taking priority over dine-in customers. Then to top it off, our server ATE DINNER while we waited for our check!!

Not the most amazing. The more expensive rolls are pretty good, the less expensive are lackluster. Anything with "chef's choice" in it is skewed way to the cheaper end. Not that it's bad, just be aware that if you pick that option you won't see tuna or eel on your plate. The miso was weird and the salad was iceberg with sesame dressing.

Used a Groupon, which made dinner even more "budget friendly." The soup seemed bland, the salad was plain but fresh. The tempura shrimp and vegetables were uneven. I was pleasantly surprised by the size of the shrimp: gigantic, but their internal temperature was cold--which was disappointing. The vegetables, though, were piping hot. Together this made for an odd culinary experience. The atmosphere, service, prices, and free parking are all good.

Shiki was closed so we decided to give the Plum a try. I was served a salad that looked like it was a month old. It was limp, discolored, rotting and nasty. I was offered another to replace it..I declined. The salad made me hyper nervous about the fish quality. Actually the sushi and sashimi were good. The cuts were a bit small and the wasabi on the sashimi was a bit heavy. The fish seemed fresh. The salmon was good. The white tuna was somewhat flavorless. We'll wait for Shiki to reopen.

You used to be able to order fried rice on doordash, now suddenly they don’t offer fried rice on that menu at all?? They had great fried rice, maybe even the best in the city, so that reallyyy sucks. Them naming a roll after Donald trump when there are none named after any other people is obviously a turn off too. Lol odd business move. The sushi is pretty good though. 🤷‍♀️

It's OK. Only the elder lady seems to be working. ?? Food was OK. Udon is little bland for my taste. Sashimi and sushi was good but on Luke warm. I prefer it to be on little cold side for safety reasons.

By far the best sushi in Rochester! However, if Tricia is not working then I recommend ordering your food to go because the other waitress is really bad. The place was messy, we had to set our own tables, get our own straws and napkins and she’s just not friendly at all. She took our food order, brought us our food and then we didn’t see her again until she brought us our check. She never checked on us or filled our waters and the place wasn’t even busy so there was no reason for such poor service. If it wasn’t for her then I would have definitely given 5 stars because the food is always amazing and Tricia is such a wonderful, kind and funny person who genuinely cares about the restaurant and her customers! Side note: get the Yummy Yummy roll, you won’t be disappointed!!

Service was a bit slow, but understandable as she was a bit older. Food was extremely mediocre though.. very skinny slabs of fish, the yummy roll was nice and crunchy but still didn’t taste anything besides rice & crunchy panko, & eel sauce. Beef udon was probably the worst I’ve ever had. Beef was tough, not the thin slices of beef belly that you normally get & the udon tasted like soysauce & water. Came out to $70 for 1 beef udon, 2 rolls, and a teriyaki salmon plate. I think its worth more to just go to Osaka and get AYCE for that price. Im trying to not be too harsh as it’s a local place but i unfortunately will not be going back..

The sushi was a little better than Wegmans sushi but not by much. The service wasn't good. Every time our waitress put something down she did it loudly/roughly. There are better sushi places in the area with the same/better prices and better service.

The Sushi was amazing but the service was terrible. Waited 25 minutes for drinks and just over an hour for our food after we ordered. We had to ask for our check twice and overall took just over 2 hours to have dinner with 4 people. The table behind us also waited an hour for their food as well.

I'm giving two stars because the sushi I ordered here was quite good I got the spicy crab roll and another with salmon and fish eggs for my husband, which we enjoyed. I had never had tempura in restaurant quality and was exited to try it as well as soft shell crab app. The tempura was horribly greasy and the shrimp inside was overcooked, although overall it had good flavor. The soft shell crab was nothing short of disgusting, over cooked over breaded and the breading was panko which i found odd. There was more breading then there was crab and the crab has a horrible bitter flavor. I finished my meal even though I was not satisfied I felt bad wasting it seeing how I spent so much on it and oh boy it was quite the price tag which I was prepared for, I bought sushi and shrimp tempura and softshell crab, what can I say I wanted to try something new and indulge a bit. What I was not prepared for was the gut wrenching food poisoning that was to follow and wake me while I slept kept me up all night and had to miss half of work the next morning, my god I was in pain. Most likely this originated from the quantus amounts of oil the food was cooked in and perhaps the shrimps inside not being very fresh it could have also been the soft shell crab which to me tasted rancid although who knows ive never had it before so perhaps thats just how it is. I understand that's how tempura is made but I've had fried food and not had awful food poisoning like I did eating at the Plum house.

Came here for my birthday, what a mistake. I almost never walk out of a restaurant saying "never again", but I have to say it for this place. I had sushi here and the fish tasted like it had been frozen. Against my better judgement I had the salad which tasted off and not clean. 24 hours later I was sick with food poisoning, though objectively it could have been unrelated. Finally, our food took a little longer than expected. When I asked about it I was told it would be right out but it was at least another 15 minutes.

My meal has been out for 5 minutes now and they still haven't brought my grandsons, I didn't go out to watch to eat alone, I'm waiting for his meal while mines getting cold, my grandson likes the food but I'm not sure if I come back maybe I'll just have a drink rather than eat alone, now it has been 7 minutes still no food for him. Not recommended. Price may look tempting, so I ordered a combo, which includes chef's choice. What I got is shrinked portion, and cheap fish. It is quite rare to see no eel, no white tuna, no shrimp at all in a large sushi and sashimi combo (only good news is there are some salmon in the combo). It seems the chef chose the cheap and unpopular fish in both sushi, roll, and sashimi, intentionally. Similar things happened long time ago when I ordered a lunch box from them. Miso soup has a weird taste, but Salad is fresh. Taste overall is at most mediocre. Make sure you do not trust their chef's choice ...

The sushi and wait staff were wonderful. However, there is an unpleasant odor in the restaurant which made it hard to eat but Groupon had a great deal AND I had already viewed the Groupon voucher so we still ordered. We left early.

My first time here. I ordered a salmon roll and yummy yummy roll for pick up. The order was waiting for me when I arrived 20 minutes after I placed it online. The server was very amenable when I asked for low sodium sauce at the last minute, which I appreciated. The rolls, however, were below average. Some of the rice for salmon roll was hard like the rice was old and was sitting in the cooker for a while when rice is very important in sushi. The salmon pieces in salmon roll were minimal; you can definitely get thicker salmon pieces in a salmon roll from Wegmans. I ordered yummy yummy roll because it had good reviews, but tasted like nothing but a tempura roll. I definitely would not return nor recommend.

Place seems dark and depressed and music cuts in and out, but bathrooms and food are fantastic. The service was horrendous. I wasn’t asked if I’d like a refill once on my beverage, no one ever asked how my food was and if I needed anything and there’s no one else here. We came in when a couple was leaving and it hadn’t been occupied during our entire stay. Very disappointed after hearing many good things about this place.

Ordered Door dash delivery for Tuna Salmon Hawaiian Poke Bowl Spicy Salmon Poke Bowl and Miami Beach Roll. Food was okay but did not match descriptions or pictures. Miami Beach Roll was missing the crunch topping, Spicy Salmon Poke Bowl was missing the lemons, jalapenos, edamames, and cabbage from the image, and Tuna Salmon Hawaiian Poke Bowl did not have any seared tuna, or green onions and instead came with the lemons from the other order. Pickled radish (?) came with both and tasted spoiled. Very poor clarity on the items from this restaurant. We ate the food picking around the items we could not eat, but someone with more severe allergies could suffer. Food was too expensive to be worth the headache, would not order again

Food was not that great. I had the oyakodon (a very traditional Japanese dish) and the chicken had what tasted like oregano and basil on it which doesn’t exactly go well with the soy based sauce. The sushi was okay 3/5 but the cooked food was mediocre at best

Haven't been there in awhile, my family and I used to go often because it used to be very good. My husband and I returned last nite. They must have changed management. Funny smell when I walked in, raised a red flag. I'm very sorry to say, it turned out that sushi was not fresh and had no flavor, and yakisoba did not taste like yakisoba. I will not return.

I can't believe how many positive reviews this place has, I went there for lunch the other day and will never return. It's not that the food made me sick, it's that there are so many better options for sushi in this town. The restaurant is a hole in the wall, dingy, dirty and just didn't feel clean. That isn't confidence inspiring when you're going to eat raw fish. The food was meh - the salad dressing was horrible. Not sure what they used but it wasn't the traditional orange ginger dressing you'll find at most sushi houses. It tasted like mayo. Gross. The sushi, well, was there. Wasn't anything spectacular. I guess if I didn't know any better it would have been OK, but I do know better, and that's why I'm giving Plum House a 1 star review. If you're seeking really good sushi, head over to Nikko's on South Ave ext.

Will absolutely never give this place an ounce of my business on their complete lack of common sense and professionalism. Earlier this evening one of their deliveries drivers backed into our vehicle, I asked him for insurance in which he starred at me like a deer in headlights and their on-duty “manager” walked out, we explained the situation and she repeatedly attempted to bribe us not to contact police because it was his SECOND accident that day and they would provide us surveillance ( in the mean time this kid is now entering another vehicle without giving us any insurance information). I simply looked at her and asked her to “stop talking to us because I was very hot about the situation right now” she then proceeded to attempt to belittle us verbally instead of just leaving the situation alone ( the driver who hit us is now gone at this point) and then repeatedly denied to provide us with insurance information. Police arrive, the driver is not there, he is in another vehicle (none of these vehicles are registered or insured to him) the police asked to for his information to identify him, she was extremely resistant, they asked for surveillance and low and behold there is none, all the mean while the police told her the individual should not have left, she said “911 told me it was ok”. The absolute disbelief this is how staff treats customers when their employees damage property. This woman has set the tone for all I need to know about this business.

I have been here on numerous occasions and the portions are always good. Tonight I ordered my usual order via door dash and I was in awe/shock. My portions were 1/2 of what I normally get when I dine in, but the price was the same plus the delivery. 😔😡😔

Worst dining experience EVER!!! After ordering 2 shrimp teriyaki dinners we waited 20 minutes...the waitress brought out one dinner and and told us the other would be right out. After waiting ANOTHER 20 minutes I go ask what is going on, she disappears to the kitchen only to return and tell us the shrimp is FROZEN so they can't cook it.

What a shame. I remember this place being much better- Last night I was craving sushi, and I decided to order delivery... I couldn't even finish my meal. I ordered their tempura appetizer-- it was so terribly greasy and the oil had a weird off-putting taste. The shrimp they used was the thickness of a pencil and lacked any sort of flavor. The sushi rolls I ordered were mostly rice and the flavor was just off and the finish didn't taste fresh. With how expensive food has become, there's nothing I hate more than wasting food... But my order was simply awful. I'm not even that upset that my order was almost an hour late.

They need to update their hours on Google. Very frustrating to attempt a night out and to have the incorrect information online. We purchased a non refundable Groupon and were unable to use it as they were closing 30+ min early and refused to accommodate us using the Groupon for takeout.

I have been here several times and this was the first time in a while. I was very disappointed. I ordered Tonkotsu ramen and a spider roll. The crab in the roll tasted like it was pre-fried and put on the roll cold. The ramen had no other veggies but a bit of broccoli and bamboo shoots. It tasted ok but wasn't very appetizing. The service was lax and the waiter didn't come to check on us and I had to get my own hot sauce from the sushi chef. It was lunch time and there wasn't anyone else in the place so it wasn't like he was too busy to check on us. The worst thing was that it was ridiculously expensive. If I pay $60 for lunch it needs to be way better than that. I won't be returning.

WORST service ever. Food was also horrible this particular night, (and we found a dissolved napkin in the miso soup) When I proceeded to let them know, the waitress just shrugged and went to take on another order. We barely ate anything at all and they wanted to offer a 15% discount on $60+ of food that was disgusting and inedible. Never going back again and I suggest you don't waste your time or money. I don't ever leave reviews so you know this was a bad one. Just a warning.

Sushi smelled rotten and the sushi man sneezed without any protection. Their review replies are created by AI. Lol. Wow. Horrible restaurant.

Probably the worst sushi i’ve eaten in Rochester. The staff is extremely rude too.

The chicken and shrimp tempura was just globs of deep fried library paste. The meat inside was minimal. Inedible.

What an extreme disappointment! This used to be my favorite sushi place, but I hadn't been in years. So, I decided to "treat" myself and splurge on a big take-out lunch order. OMG, how times have changed! This was absolutely the WORST sushi I have ever had! It was just disgusting. The fish was old and tasted repulsive. The seaweed salad, radish and tempura were equally hideous. The combo and both rolls I bought were completely inedible and went straight into the garbage. What a WASTE of money! I will never ever go there again. I wonder where the really good sushi is in Rochester now, because it is NOT at The Plum House!!
