We had a lovely dinner that comprised of stir fried garlic Lobster with noodles, crab fish maw soup, fresh steamed giant shrimp, fresh steamed cod, cubed beef, scallop, egg fried rice, and pea shoots. They had a special on the lobster so pricing was very reasonable. We have been here multiple times for dinner and will continue to come.
Sometimes you want to spend a little more and enjoy good Cantonese cuisine without the traditional hustle and bustle and noise. Excellent food dishes and comfortable environment. Bring a bottle of wine and enjoy. Thank you Simon for being our maitre d!
Haven’t eat here for a while but food is great and get ready to wait for tables come early
Yam-cha (dim-sum) and dinner time pricey, but extraordinary.
The food is delicious, and the portions are right. The black lava bun is unique. The service is efficient, and the environment is clean. Make sure to arrive early, except for a long waiting period.
Classic & high quality dim sum. Old money and been going here since opening - like 20y+. Beats the pants off Lunasia. Dishes are individually delivered so it's not the cart experience but oh so much fresher.
For me, dim sum in this restaurant is the ceiling level of Cantonese cuisine here, and when I want dim sum, I will only choose this restaurant. They are usually very busy on weekends and holidays in the morning and at lunch, so remember to make a reservation with the restaurant if you plan to bring a friend. Please remember to book in advance with the restaurant.
Dim Sum food is very good, however, very very busy… must line up and wait for table availability… once in, be prepared for noisy atmosphere.
I hadn't been here in a long while and believe they are under new ownership. The place was crowded so there was a bit of a wait. The dim sum was superb. I tried a green colored pork bun that was dyed green though I still prefer the more common white bao filled with tsa tsu. The dim sum is exceptional.
Some of the freshest, best tasting Dim Sum I've ever had. There is a long wait though, so be prepared to sit for awhile
I usually go during the week or when they open on week ends. There is always a long wait during the week end. I’ve been going to this Dim Sum for years and the quality has been consistent. My favorites are the steamed lava salty egg yolk bun, shrimp dumpling, steam chicken feet in brown sauce, spare ribs in black bean sauce, baked bbq buns.
Squid ink scallop dumpling w XO sauce, steamed rice noodle w chinese donut and shrimp, house no1 baked bbq pork bun, and shumai- no wait when you get there around 10 when they open. Went at 1 and waited for 45’.
The dim sum at Sea Harbor is amazing! As seems to be expected of dim sum places, the menu is overwhelmingly large but the huge assortment of dishes that it boasts all seem to be perfect. I have never gotten something there that I dislike, at least when considering flavor combinations, consistency, and seasoning. The top dishes I get every time include the hugely popular truffle shumai (super savory seafood dumplings that almost look like little flowers on the plate), har gao (shrimp dumplings where the shrimp are surprisingly firm inside but popping with juicy flavor when you bite down), and pork rice noodle rolls (sweet and savory pork wrapped in a thin chewy rice noodle roll and covered in a soy sauce that is somehow seasoned to make it more savory than salty). I also finish off every meal with the milk buns and the egg tarts. It's worth spending some time on the egg tarts - these bite sized pies (for lack of a better description) have a flaky crust surrounding a solid custard that has a mild eggy sweetness that will allow you to end your huge meal without feeling too guilty (you'll forget how many other plates you ordered by the time you get your egg tarts anyway...). The prices are a bit high for dim sum but absolutely worth it, especially since they take orders tableside, so I assume many if not all of the dishes are prepared to order instead of being wheeled about in a little cart. The staff are plentiful and it is easy to get their attention with a little effort (you'll definitely want to get their attention to ask for things like their hot sauces on the side or the bill, for example). The parking lot is also very large, and there's plenty of open street parking once the lot fills up.
If you can, avoid going to this restaurant on Sunday! Always long queue! Dinner is ok but Sunday Dim Sum no way unless you prepare to wait for more than 1 hour
This is one of the best dim sum and Cantonese seafood restaurants in the SGV and is also recommended by Michelin. They have gourmet dim sum items that are difficult to find elsewhere, such as squid ink har gow, squid ink scallop dumplings, gold-dusted black buns filled with double egg yolk custard, and more. Service here is quite good, though the restaurant isn't terribly big for a dim sum restaurant so there may be a wait if you arrive here after 10:30am on a weekend. Parking can be difficult after 11:00am on the weekends as well. Would highly recommend this restaurant if you're in town and could only choose one dimsum restaurant out of all the many options available in the area.
If you have a reservation, don’t wait in line—go straight to the host. If you check in too late, you may lose your table. The rice noodle rolls and shrimp dumplings are the best in town.
One of the best dim sum around LA and OC! I don't really like dim sum on the trolley, but at the Sea Harbour, it's all straight from the kitchen. The quality of the food here is surpass other restaurants in the area. My favorites are Pork Siu Mai, Sticky Rapped With Lotus Leaf, Shrimp Har Gow, Pork Rice Roll, and of course the egg yolk buns. This place is also great for dinner, they have some great fish dishes. This is your traditional Chinese restaurant (Received Michelin Guides Bib Gourmand Award), but don't expect the best service. Also, they have long wait times on weekends, up to 2 hours.
Every time we come to LA it go to Vancouver we go get Dim Sum at Sea Harbour. It’s just fantastic. They have a great picture menu that is easy to navigate and then an easy dim sum check off sheet to order the food (just match the numbers). Most staff or bi lingual. I noticed someone else on here complaining about servers in this Chinese restaurant speaking Chinese! Well, if someone doesn’t speak English just ask someone else. It’s GREAT. Get one of the salty egg yolk desserts if you love easy over eggs. It’s sooo good. I HIGHLY recommend dish #1 on the dim sum menu. It’s chicken feet, but they are amazing!
The shu mai here was incredible. The shrimp at lunasia was better the last time we went, but everything here was great. Skip the congee. I'd suggest getting the hargow and the rice noodle first and get the more complex stuff later.
Amazing dim sum. The food presentation looks good and of course they taste great too. The service is nice too. The price is not that bad. I would not say it is Upscale. I would recommend avoiding any peak times. We tried going there at 11 over a weekend and the line was too long so we ended up going back there during a weekday. There was no wait at the time.
the shrimp dumplings was exactly how it was supposed to be - exquisitely tiny, skin was thin and chewy but not oily. Most of the dim sum were nicely done - not salty nor oily arranging all tables with kids in a separate room effectively managed to noice All staff members are helpful and nice
More modern dim sum, with items like truffle siu mai, har gow with gold leaf, and liu sha bao with gold leaf (all of which are delicious). Also has most of the dim sum staples. Interior of the restaurant is just like a normal dim sum restaurant. Service was fairly fast. Had to wait for a table when we arrived (peak time), but didn’t need to wait long.
Upscale dim sum with beautifully presented dishes. The har gow were plump and fresh. Service is efficient, though it can get packed on weekends. Prices are higher than average dim sum, but quality matches. Great for special occasions
Good clean and superb services, we came by to have lunch at this place after church. We were very lucky that after we were seated customers started coming in. It was a little crowded inside the restaurant, but after that the line was formed outside . The food were excellent and delicious. It really had a great qualities, no wonder this place was busy. We passed thru here so many times but had never eaten here. The noises were medium and the servers were friendly. We would be back again to this place to try out other delicious dishes beside the DimSum .
Quality of dim sum is superb. Slightly more expensive when compared to other dim sums around the area but imo it is worth the quality. Get here early before opening or you will wait for second round of seating. Must try the egg tart, truffle mushroom shumai and lotus leaf wrapped sticky rice.
The dimsum quality here is very top tier. I feel like the pricing is valid as I understand why it is pricier than most of the dimsum places on the area. However one thing I don't feel like the pricing was worth was the black har gow thing with gold flakes. It was $9 for a plate but I felt like their regular har gow tasted way better and much cheaper! My favorites we're their Siu mai, Chang fen , custard ball and the durian pastries. Beware though, we waited like 2 hours to get a table. They are really busy over the weekends as expected.
This was my second visit to this establishment within 6 months of returning to California for a trip. The food is absolutely amazing and the dim sum is made to order and super fresh. Our first experience I would recommend not going on a weekend afternoon. Good luck waiting 2 hours for a table and being crammed in like sardines. This time around we went on a Monday right when they opened..plenty of seats for everyone, food came out fast, but when 11:30 am came around droves or folks came pouring in. What I liked the most was how they cooked the Xiu Mai with truffle. It's aromatic and savory. The egg tofu with abalone sauce was simply delicious. Mildly crunchy on the outside and silky on the inside. Don't forget to add Pandan pork to your order along with the gold leaf shrimp dumplings. If you are a fan of the Clay Pot. I would highly recommend the chicken and Chinese sausage.
If you’re a dim sum lover looking for something elevated, this spot is a must-try when you visit LA. Sea Harbor lives up to its Michelin reputation, delivering top-tier dim sum crafted by renowned chef Tony He. Every dish I tried was packed with flavor, but the standout for me was the Charsiu Bao. It’s hands down the best BBQ pork bun I’ve ever had, which is soft, fluffy, and bursting with perfectly seasoned filling. The overall quality is exceptional, though the prices on the higher side. Plenty of parking but you should plan ahead or arrive early. The service is fast and efficient, but it might feel a little rushed.
Chef Tony He does it again, he really is the godfather of dimsum in LA. Fantastic restaurant offering delicious food in a bustling atmosphere. The dimsum is very high quality and tastes wonderful. Be ready for a slight wait on weekends, especially during lunch time. Don’t worry though the food comes out quickly. Service is nice overall, but this was the first time I have ever been directly confronted by a staff member for not tipping enough. Very bold of the staff to straight up say I should tip more.
Sea Harbour consistently proves why it’s a true institution for high quality, authentic Cantonese style cuisine. Their weekend dim sum was so good I ordered a lot of dim sum for 2 of us , and everything was delicious. I was honestly surprised when I got the bill , it was much cheaper than I expected! If I had eaten the same amount at my favorite dim sum spot in Irvine, it would have cost more. The atmosphere is lively and bustling, perfect for family gatherings, though it can get quite noisy when crowded. Service is efficient and attentive, with tea refilled constantly and dishes arriving quickly and piping hot. Parking can be a challenge, so be prepared to hunt for a spot, especially on busy weekends.
Tucked away in the bustling LA dining scene, Sea Harbor consistently proves why it's a true institution for high-quality, authentic Cantonese-style Chinese cuisine. While the weekend dim sum is famous, I recently visited for dinner and was completely blown away by their specialty dishes, which feel like a step above standard Chinese fare. The atmosphere is always lively—bustling but never overwhelming—making it perfect for family gatherings or celebratory dinners. The service is efficient and attentive, ensuring teacups are always full and dishes arrive quickly and piping hot. The Trilogy of Excellence (Your Recommendations are Spot On): * Roast/Peking Duck: This is non-negotiable. The duck here is legendary. The skin shatters with the slightest pressure, giving way to incredibly tender, juicy meat. It’s prepared and carved perfectly, and the overall flavor is rich and complex. A benchmark duck for all of Southern California. * Crispy Fried Pigeon: If you've never tried it, this is the place. It's often overlooked, but Sea Harbor's preparation is flawless. The skin is deeply seasoned and crisp, and the meat is surprisingly tender and savory—a truly authentic and delicious experience that showcases the skill of the kitchen. * Signature Fried Fish Dish: The quality of their seafood shines brightly here and perfectly cooked. The exterior was lightly battered and wonderfully crisp, while the fish inside remained moist and flaky. You can taste the freshness, proving they source top-tier ingredients. Sea Harbor is more than just a restaurant; it’s an experience in authentic Cantonese dining. If you are a serious fan of classic Chinese cuisine, and especially if you are looking to treat yourself to exceptional duck, unique delicacies like the pigeon, and fried fish, don't walk, run there! You won’t regret it!
If you're planning a visit, be prepared for a crowd. We went for lunch and had a significant 35-minute wait to be seated. The dining room was buzzing and clearly very popular. However, the reason for the queue is simple: this is some of the best and most authentic Chinese food I've had outside of mainland China. Everything we tried was fantastic, but the one dish you absolutely must order is the roasted pork. It's delicious: crispy skin, tender meat, and perfectly seasoned. Go, but maybe try to get there a little before the lunch rush, or just accept the wait!
Wow!! This is special! True elevated Cantonese dim sum all the way baby! I have not had this in a long time. Shumai was very unique tasting & light, not greasy nor overly salted. Chicken feet were huge. They automatically serve traditional hot mustard as a condiment. The wait was long because the restaurant isn’t that big and when you arrive you enter your party size in the electronic system. Overall a blast to the past with a light twist. A reminder of what quality dim sum is all about! Definitely deserves many happy returns when in the area.
Great dim sum. Fast service even though there is minimal English spoken. The food was authentic and everything very tasty amd delicious. Very efficient servers that are very attentive.
Sea Harbour Seafood Restaurant is truly one of the best dim sum experiences in Los Angeles. The food is outstanding—everything is fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared, from the dumplings to the seafood dishes. You can really taste the quality in every bite. The service is excellent, with staff who are attentive and efficient, even when the restaurant is busy. The dining area is clean, spacious, and comfortable, making it a great spot for both family gatherings and special occasions. If you’re looking for authentic, top-quality dim sum and seafood, Sea Harbour is a must-visit. I can’t wait to come back and try even more dishes!
went for dim sum on weekday lunch hour. This place is buzzing, it opens at 10:30 am, if you don't get there before noon you may have to wait. Busy place service is a little lacking but servers are doing their best to serve.
Very good option for traditional Cantonese Cuisine. Went there for brunch. They specialize in seafood but also serves dim sum so we ordered an array of dim sum and beef chow fun. Food and service was good. There might be a waiting list to be seated, so be patient. Will definitely be back to try more of their menu. Highly recommended.
Good and tasty foods, but you can find similar near SGV in less price. Portion is smaller than others.
We waited 2 hours to get a table for 4 ppl. My parents said it was the best dim sum they've had so they wanted me to try it. I was really beginning to question whether the wait was worth it. Service the same at any Asian restaurant kinda brushes you off. The food was spectacular though. It tasted better, cleaner, less greasy, and meatier than other dim sum places. I was pleasantly surprised. Truth me told I don't want to go to any other dim sum place haha just cause the food quality tasted so much cleaner.
There are 7-8 males smoking a the front porch by the front door and you could smell it at the small reception area, which is very bad and there is no no smoking sign there. Foods are pretty delicious and services are ok. We have been waiting for over 30 minutes due to good business and lunch time. A good dim sum restaurant. Me and my wife’s ordered 11 dishes to have something home for the evening, among them we like the shrimp dumplings, radish cake and sticky rice with preserved pork the most.
Overall, the dim sum here is quite good—definitely above average. Most dishes were tasty, though a couple missed the mark (like the shrimp inside cheung fun, which was salty). We were seated in a quieter, isolated room, which was nice for conversation, but service was hit-or-miss and sometimes hard to find.
Great dim sum, favorite was the pandan dumpling thing. Service is speedy, they turn over their tables fast! Which can also be a little off putting especially when you're not familiar as to how to order. Tried chicken feet for the first time, flavor profile amazing, texture (not my cup of tea) but I gave it a chance
Decent dim sum place in the area, come here early on the weekends or else you’ll have to deal with a long wait. Parking lot gets full quickly, but there’s street parking available. Didn’t have any carts coming by, seemed to be an order-off-the-menu type setup. The food overall was pretty good with many traditional but well executed choices. Service was slow and they never came back after our food came out. Prices were about expected.
Pricey dim sum. It gets busy here so come early. Ordered Chinese broccoli in oyster sauce, shrimp dumpling, pork & shrimp dumpling with truffle sauce, radish cake with assorted preserved meat, sticky rice wrapped with lotus leaf, shrimp dumpling with chives, steamed bbq pork bun, house no. 1 baked bbq pork bun, and deep fried sesame balls... All of the dishes tasted good.
Overall pretty great. The steamed rice noodle with shrimp and shrimp dumplings are plump as must gets. The deep fried smelts are filled with roe and are super crunchy. The steamed chicken feet are super tender and fall apart. The pork and shrimp dumplings with truffle are also nice. The bbq pork pastry has numerous flaky layers but tastes rather plain. Skip the dry scallop and meatball congee which pretty much uses no scallops. Really wish they had taro dumplings. 12pm noon is pretty much peak time
I was hoping they've reopened. But I checked and they are only for take out. Having missing their dim sum, I Ordered some take outs today. This is a Great dim sum place. I like their famous truffle shaomai. The cha shaobao is one of the best in the San Gabriel valley. Unfortunately, the take out menu is limited. We ended up ordering the fried dumpling with minced pork, XO sauce with pan fried turnip cake, truffle shao Mai, glutinous rice, and steam Cha shao Bao. The truffle shao Mai is still as good as before and the aroma of the truffle is just irresistible. The fat in the pork was just the right taste combination with the truffle. The gluttonous rice is not that good compared to other dim sum places as the rice was to mushy, not to my liking. On the other hand, steam Cha shao Bao was made just like they do them in Hong Kong. I hope they will reopen soon for dine-in.
It's great. The food is good. But you have to wait outside until your number is called and outside the place is littered with cigarettes in the waiting area. Please clean it up and put a no smoking sign. No one wants second hand smoke.
Not quite worth the wait when lining up for dim sum. But it is a premium Hong Kong fine dining place. Make reservation. Dinner is ordered on digital tablet BTW
This is one of the better dim sum restaurants in the packed Chinese dim sum restaurant area. They let you order and then bring the food to your table instead of using carts. The menu has pictures if the food and price for each item so it's pretty easy to order. They have special gold foil shrimp dumplings and egg-bao. They are very tasty but not because of the gold :). Highly recommended.
They have different tea options unlike other dim sum places, they also allow you to bring your own tea but tea fee per person is $1.98 still. Above average dimsum, but maybe I have been spoiled by Canadian dimsum. We arrive 12:40 pm for lunch waited 30 mins. Chicken feet probably steamed too long, the skin don’t have the chewy texture anymore but easy to remove the bone, I guess good for senior ? Steam pork ribs has too many bones hard to chew. Other dumplings are pretty tasty but nothing stands out. But I am willing to give it another try. If I recommend: Clay pot rice would be the highlight. But it takes sometimes to cook so order at the beginning or don’t order at all. Small dining area compare to other dimsum places. You can hear the nearby table conversation, which replicated the original HK dimsum dinning style. They also offer ice to go with your hot tea after you seated, just in case you are thirsty from waiting to get seated.
The restaurant is highly rated. I felt the food was not as great as some other venues I have tried in LA. The shumai had truffle oil. That was novel and not seen in other dimsum venues around here. I really enjoyed the mushroom and celery dumplings. Everything else felt very heavy.
I came here specifically to try it out since they have many products that aren’t available in New York. My favorites were the golden lava buns and the black truffle siu mai. But make sure to bring some dental floss—my mouth was covered in black bits, and I only realized it when I saw my photos afterward. No wonder my smile got so much attention today. :( The durian pastry was very greasy—my mouth was full of oil, and the durian flavor wasn’t strong enough. They even deep-fried chicken knees. When I took my first bite, I instinctively spit it out, only to realize that was the main part. So I put it back in my mouth and ate it again—kind of like missing the point while focusing on the packaging. The service was great, very friendly. A lot of celebrities have dined here, and their photos with the owner are all over the walls.
Quick Summary Pretty solid dim sum spot with comfortable seating. It's not worth the long wait on the weekends (so try to arrive early), but the food is pretty good with some unique dim sum dishes. The menu is smaller than most dim sum spots, so don't expect everything to be here. Parking in the lot gets crowded about 1 hour after opening Food- 4 stars We ordered the shumai, shrimp dumplings, BBQ pork buns, milk egg tarts, salty egg buns, turnip cake, scallop dumplings, and steamed rice noodles with Chinese donut and shrimp. Everything was pretty standard, but the best dish and a must-order is the steamed rice noodles with Chinese donut and shrimp Service- 4 stars Typical no-frills Asian spot. You do have to chase down a waiter, which is typical in dim sum spots. However, they are more attentive and polite than most Bottom Line Well-run dim sum spot with a ton of business. It's a solid dim sum spot, but I wouldn't want to wait very long for it.
Okay first off get there early. We waited almost two hours, which kinda sucks because after waiting so long you are hoping the skies open up and deliver food from heaven. Also the parking is limited. So again, get there early! We went for dim sum on a Saturday so that could be the problem. Please do it expect carts here. They use a menu. The menu offers really unique dishes which is quite fun! The service was typical Asian, efficient. The restaurant is clean and well laid out. The bathroom is kept up. The food came out hot and tasty. The lotus leaf smell was real and oh so amazing! The portion of meat to bread in the bao was perfect. All the flavors were good. I would come again and try different dishes but I’d come early 😂
A classic Dim Sum joint with nothing particularly amazing that sets it apart. If you are a fan of the cart selections, you will be disappointed. You order on the menu and they serve you, pretty basic in nature. It was hard to get the attention of the waiter for water and napkins. The shumai left something to be desired and the steamed buns were delicious. Altogether, I would seek out other Dim Sum joints before this one.
The food was mediocre for the price. Shrimp dumplings and pork siu mai had a weird after taste that I have never experienced at other dim sum restaurants. The sticky rice had a salty duck yolk inside if you enjoy that. Best thing to order is the French style crispy pork buns and the bbq pork noodle rolls.
We came on a Sunday around prime time 1145am. The wait was very long. We didn't get in until 1:10pm. I thought there would be more choices of dim sum for being so popular but it wasn't much and food was okay. Service though was good for being so so busy. Before we got seated they already had a baby high chair waiting at the table. That's a major plus for parents, if you know what I mean. Price was decent overall.
We dined on a Saturday, the wait and the service was really quick thankfully. But to me everything was average, not worth the drive from the valley as there’s plenty of places that taste just like this
Dropped by to check the place out. The service was okay, typical Chinese restaurant atmosphere. The food was okay too. Nothing stood out. The pictures on the wall seemed interesting. Some was of celebrities that dropped by. Had to say the restroom was a bit dirty. We went in the morning, but the restroom was already dirty.
Wow this place is a shell of what it once was. It used to be good 10 years ago. I went again recently for dim sum, and for the price and wait time, it's not worth it. Got there at 10:30 on a Saturday, waited 2 hours for a 4 person table. They seated us at a 2 person table. Only tables of 7 or more were seated more quickly. We looked around and it seemed like everyone was ordering their seafood dishes instead of their dim sum. We tried their crispy noodle and a veggie dish, and both were good. Dim sum was very disappointing though.
always ridiculous wait for ok to good dimsum. The people ars also rushed and the food for over m hour wait is absolutely not worth it for the weekend. It’s better to find a small local place and order to go.
DON'T COME IF YOU ARE CHINESE LIKE ME!!!!!!!!!! I am writing to express my profound concern and disappointment regarding an incident that transpired during my recent visit to your restaurant. I believe it is imperative to bring to your attention the regrettable and discriminatory behavior exhibited by a member of your reception staff. On August 26th, my family and I checked into Sea Harbour Restaurant with the hope of enjoying a pleasant dining experience. Unfortunately, the treatment we received from the receptionist on duty was far from the standard of service we had anticipated. The staff member in question, whose name escaped my attention, displayed a disrespectful attitude towards my mother, who is afflicted with a hearing impairment. I am inclined to characterize her conduct as nothing short of discriminatory. ***The receptionist who bring us to our table exhibited an astonishingly impatient demeanor. She repeatedly questioned my mother about our tea preferences. It is important to note that due to my mother's hearing issues, she requires additional time to process and respond to auditory cues. Nevertheless, the receptionist's response to my mother's delayed answers was one of visible displeasure. To my disbelief, after my mother managed to understand the question and respond, the receptionist stepped aside and made unfavorable remarks to her colleagues about my mother's responsiveness, displaying a disgusted attitude. Such behavior is not only unjust but also wholly discriminatory. This incident left my mother feeling deeply embarrassed and humiliated. It is crucial to recognize that my mother's hearing impairment is not a matter of choice, and she is entitled to the same level of respect and courtesy as any other patron. ***What made us even more disappointed was the stark contrast in the receptionist's attitude towards non-Chinese guests. Her behavior appears to be very polite, patient and accommodating when dealing with non-Chinese customers. Her behavior appeared remarkably courteous, patient, and accommodating when dealing with non-Chinese patrons. This stark disparity in her treatment of guests based on their ethnicity serves as a clear testament to bias and discrimination. Such an attitude is unacceptable within any professional context, particularly within the restaurant industry. The fact that the staff member in question is herself Chinese makes her prejudiced conduct towards her fellow countrywoman all the more bewildering. As a waitress, it is her duty to uphold a consistent standard of service irrespective of a guest's race or background. Subsequent to our meal, I took the initiative to discuss the matter with the manager on duty that day. I requested that the receptionist offer a sincere apology to my mother for her distressing behavior. What was even more surprising, however, was the receptionist's refusal to apologize to my mother and her blatant disregard for her own discriminatory behavior. Given the absence of an apology to my mother, I am left with no recourse but to consider further actions. I am resolute in my commitment to ensuring that discrimination finds no harbor within the United States, especially within a community as diverse as ours. This incident is not just a reflection of one individual's actions; it speaks to broader issues of inclusivity and respect that resonate deeply with us all. I implore you to take this complaint seriously and to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter. It is my hope that swift and appropriate action will be taken to rectify this unfortunate situation and to prevent any such incidents from occurring in the future. Please understand that I am prepared to explore all available avenues, including legal recourse, to address this matter should the need arise.
Foods are good, if you don't care about the servers you can go.
While certainly not born into the culture of Cantonese cooking, I was fortunate to spend every weekend growing up enjoying New York City's Chinatown, which back in the late 70's exposed all of us native NY'ers to authentic Cantonese and Mandarin cuisine. It almost always was fantastic, even if some of the dishes seemed fairly exotic to a American palettes. But a few things were always consistent: high quality cooking and ingredients and dishes; beautiful presentation, and friendly, respectful Staff. Clearly Sea Harbour (a stalwart in Rosemead, CA) has not decided in it's current iteration to follow these traditions. We stopped by for some take-out on New Year's, to supplement some of the delicacies we'd already gotten for our celebration. The restaurant at 8:00 PM was mostly empty at that point - a few straggling families at large round tables finishing up. So that left approximately 3 managers (in suits) and several servers (in elegant vests) and several bussers etc with nothing to do but their 'close out'. We were greeted brusquely by a handsome gentleman in his late 40's, who without a smile or any warmth, asked if we wished to order take out. Menus are only on electronic tablets - we were handed one and he walked away. Apparently, 'Customer Service' is not really required to manage this restaurant. As we'd never been here, we scanned the entrees, trying to make out the over-simplistic descriptions and match them with pictures. This Manager NEVER RETURNED. About 8 minutes later, a server noticed us standing awkwardly at the front, and offered to take our order. Here's something unusual: THERE ARE SPARSE OFFERINGS. Unlike most Asian restaurants (of any culture in America!) there were only about 2-3 entrees in each category! AND NO appetizers except soups! NO dim sum, no dumplings, no spring rolls - nada. We ordered 2 shrimp dishes, and then we were asked to pay up at the bar. So we head to the bar, and pay. Then we're told to please wait at the front. We walk back up to the front, where we now are HIDDEN FROM THE ENTIRE RESTAURANT (how will they remember we are waiting when they're already ignoring us when we're in plain sight?) After 20 minutes, I ask if our entrees are ready (after all, NO ONE ELSE is ordering, they're shutting down early apparently due to no more gusts to feed). They bring out our entrees which must have been ready but forgotten. We're handed two bags. NO OFFER for napkins, utensils. Just 2 plastic bags. NO 'THANK YOU FOR COMING' or "HAPPY NEW YEAR". Once home, MUCH TO OUR IDISAPPOINTMENT, the dishes needed some amount of 'prep' (for example a shrimp noodle dish was basically a giant plastic plate of DRY NOODLES... and a separate cup of goopy shrimp and veggies!) We stared at these for a minute before tentatively pouring the goop over the dried noodles, praying this was correct. We still don't know if it was - the noodles remained deep fried and dry - the goop did not seem to mix well with the dried noodles. Who knows. And the flavor was bland - WAY more bland than any Cantonese food I've had. Really nothing special. They skimped on the shrimp, too - such a shame. The 2 dishes cost a whopping $46 and were hardly anything special. So I guess it's fair to say this long-time eatery is so comfy and entitled in past glories and reviews that were plastered on the walls 10-20 YEARS AGO that they needn't really feel bothered to be kind to new clientele, explain anything, ask if we need help, or crack a smile. Not to mention the food was hardly worth the 50$. A Shame. HEAD TO OCEAN BO 5 minutes away - Cantonese that not only is brilliant and yum, but super reasonable on pricing. DO NOT RECOMMEND. Thank you.
I will start by saying my partner and I love the food there. It’s authentic and great quality. Get there early for dim sum to get their congee. Our beef with the place (this time at least) is the hostess. We understand it’s Jan 1st and that there is a long wait. We have no problem waiting patiently. When it was close to our turn, the hostess announced to the waiting guests to get ordering menu so that it would expedite the dining process. Of course I went to get one. Then less than 2 min in, our number was called so of course we go check in at the front desk. There were a small line so I waited for my turn without hounding the hostess on a stressful busy day for her which took less a min to clear the line. But then she blames us for taking a long time to get to her and she’s been calling us even though she literally just announced our number total about few minutes at this point. I explained to her no you just called and when I tried to get her attention before the line cleared she didn’t respond. But she continued to blame us while taking us to our seat. I’ve spoken to the supposed “manager” she was nice and apologized but didn’t check in on the hostess at all. I understand it was hectic for New Year’s Day and we wanted to courteous by not just get in her face the second our number is called. But it was very inappropriate the way she treated us. The weird part is that the couple after us (a non-Asian couple) was treated in a completely different tone. Then another after them. I was speaking in mostly Mandarin and my partner doesn’t so I explained to her what the hostess was saying to us after we sat down and she was surprised because it felt that we didn’t waste a second as soon as we were called. I guess if the future we just have to be aggressive and be in her face to make sure we don’t waste mere seconds of the hostess time then blame her for wasting ours. The service otherwise was standard dim sum place but because of the first encounter, we didn’t enjoy the experience. Edit: seems like this is an ongoing issue with the hostess. She is infamous being prejudice with Asians and treat non Asians differently. We are going to stop going there now since the management isn’t doing something about that.
Customer service sucks ! Big turn off! Unfortunate. Just because the place is busy I do not see the need to receive rude service.
super bad service, yelling at me, saying curse words, I’m wondering is there’s anyone actually managing this restaurant or those workers just do what ever they want.
Terrible experience. Waited over 60 minutes. Understand it is crowded, but it turns out the hostess allows friends to cut in line and not have to get a ticket to wait in line. A mainland chinese lady merged tables with someone with an earlier number to skip waiting in line, and complained about the table size and demanded to have their own separate table, successfully cutting the line. Make sure you pay attention how they call the number or else you may have to wait even longer than fair.
Absolutely horrendous experience. If you don't speak Chinese, better stay away from this restaurant. We waited for well over an hour for one simple reason -- the hostess let friends to cut in line without signing up on the waiting list. When we saw that and complained, we were told to wait and look at the screen which shows the waiting status. That screen won't update and was terribly inaccurate. If you wish to wait an eternity to have a meal and experience injustice, this place is for you.
Don’t even bother putting your name on the list because this restaurant doesn’t accept customers based on the number you picked. They only give tables to people they know. I have my name on their list at the top of the line for the next available table. However, I’ve been waiting for an hour, and I still haven’t been able to get a seat. When I approached the host, she said, “I don’t know,” which gave me the impression that she didn’t care. Of course, she doesn’t care because she needs to save the open table for people she knows. As a result, I had to leave my waitlist and go to another restaurant. This is my first time at this restaurant, and I definitely won’t be coming back.
