My friend introduced my family to this restaurant, and we’ve been hooked ever since! They serve authentic and delicious Chinese food with rich flavors and traditional touches. My kids absolutely love the crispy flounder, and the Cantonese-style ‘old fire soup’ is incredibly flavorful. Their desserts are also a treat! The service is excellent—waiters and waitresses are friendly, attentive, and quick. A fantastic spot for an authentic Chinese dining experience!
A must go restaurant in Sacramento! I’ve been coming here since I was small and the food is always delicious. The people are also wonderful. It has great lunch specials, but I love dinner here too. I recommend the Beef and Tofu for a mild and delicious dish. The juuk (congee) is perfect for anyone with a cold too, so I recommend that highly (my favorite is with dried scallop).
My church just had a Valentine party at this place and it was AWESOME! The food was good and the service was great. The owner went out their way to serve us. They do have private room to host the party up to 70 people. The place supposed to close at 9:30PM but we extended until 10:30PM and they were willing to wait for us. Overall, the workers there are friendly and the service was great. Highly recommended to those who want to host a party. I will come back for sure.
Love this place! Our group of friends enjoyed a wonderful dinner at Far East. Serving is plenty. Food is always delicious. Highly recommend for anyone looking for authentic Cantonese cuisine. Will be back here!
Family style chinese food is the best way to enjoy Chinese food. This could feed five or six people plus dessert. Everything tasted really good. I always come here when I visit family. The fried chicken is amazing, always a plus.
Far East is the type of restaurant that is a family go-to for generations. It's been mine for 40+ years. Tonight I went in as a party of five - 4 adults & 1 very messy, very cute one year old (who is demanding to eat on his own & we are soooo sorry for the mess he made 😬) Everything about the restaurant, including the staff, is authentic, nothing fancy, always just right. We ordered: 2 appetizers & 4 dishes to share. The bill, including tip, was right around $100. Our waiter was great. I didn't get his name, but he was friendly & efficient. He brought the kiddo his own small ice water and toddler sectioned type plate which I don't think I've ever experienced in a restaurant. It just felt special. We didn't wait long after we ordered before the food arrived. As always, it was hot, the portions were generous & there were no complaints. A Few Recommended Dishes: *Ginger Beef *Steamed Pork w/Salted Fish (Hom Yee Yook) *Chicken Broccoli *Tofu w/Bok Choy and/or BBQ Pork
The food is great here this is the second time I've ordered over the phone. I just have one problem I ordered Mongolian beef and they did not give me Mongolian beef they gave me beef with, red and green peppers. And I know this isn't Mongolian beef because Mongolian beef is made with 3 types of onions, one being green onions. And that's what I got the first time when I ordered here.
Came and had dinner with friends. We had a ten course meal and everything was delicious with good size portions. It was family style which means entrees are shared among the guests. My favorites are the fried fish flounder, steamed egg with class, steamed Chinese chicken, and salt and pepper pork ribs. We had the fish maw soup which was nice and hot and delicious. Great place to come for a family dinner. Please come and support family owned businesses. You will see the owner Susan around at times and she is always greeting her guests and checking in on how you like the food.
Myself and husband stopped by cause we were hungry for some chinese foods, we ordered the crispy fried chicken, beef tomato chow mein, and vegetable fried rice, the foods was hmmm excellent, good service, and price was reasonable, the inside is okay, but that did not bother us, we'll be coming back again in the future.
They have good food with reasonable price. The staff is attentive and friendly. Perfect for any occasion, this spot consistently delivers a great dining experience. Highly recommend!
Tasty traditional Cantonese dishes, loved the roast duck, fish casserole, scrambled eggs and beef, Chinese broccoli. Fed a family of 6 easily.
Nice staff, very authentic Chinese Cantonese food. The food so fresh and price very affordable! Highly recommend!
I am now 58 years old. I grew up in San Francisco, Oakland, and later in the Peninsula. I grew up with great Cantonese food. In my 40’s I moved to Sonoma County and then 3 years ago, to Sacramento. For those next 13 years or so, I had given up trying to find the type of food I had experienced in the previous 40 years. I am speaking about original solid Cantonese food. It seems like everywhere you turn, restaurants are trying to reinvent the wheel with fusion fancy expensive and underwhelming food. I am therefore thankful that I have discovered Far East Cafe in Sacramento. A no-frills restaurant that serves the dishes I grew up with and does so consistently and incredibly delicious. You will find a lot of dishes which are like home cooking here, as they have dishes with parts of the animals or seafood which are not offered in most other places. I don’t eat meat, but it brings back memories seeing Pork knuckles, oxtails, or clay pots with fish heads. They have bitter melon or tofu skins for those who don’t eat meat. Service is attentive and food is prepared quickly. My memory dish and my barometer for a Chinese restaurant is Shrimp and tofu over rice. As soon as I tasted it, it brought back memories of eating this dish at Kam Lok on Washington Street, downstairs in San Francisco. The dish here is probably better than Kam Lok. They also serve it the old fashioned way, the food on top of a full plate of rice. None of the all too common now, rice plate with half a plate of rice and a small portion of the dish on the side. Today at lunch they even gave me a complimentary dessert which brought back memories of Sunday family dinners. The grass jelly jello dessert which I used to eat from cans, except they make it here in house. I am so grateful that places like Far East Cafe are still around. Solid , delicious, traditional Chinese food served without pretension for reasonable prices. Go here, you won’t regret it.
My family and I have been coming here for years now! Every time we come I enjoy the food and it never disappoints. I recommend to anyone looking to try a new restaurant. Our go to is the chow mein and fried rice!!
Good Chinese restaurant with big portion and affordable price, they offer free soup before dinner and even dessert before check.
Far East Cafe did it again! Lovely birthday dinner celebrating Emely’s birthday. Food is superb! Highly recommend!

I had to visit this restaurant. It used to be my favorite back from 1986 to 1988 when I attended the local city college. It doubled in size, still has the old school image from 35plus years ago. The menu contained all my favorites from way back then. The flavors are identical to what my taste buds told me. You must visit if in south Sacramento area looking for a decent Chinese food
Honest review. This place had good reviews. But has pros and cons(my personal view). Pros Great lunch special prices!($12) Large portions Rice, soup plus chow mein Clean location Nice ac Good service Cons The soup was good The kung Pao chicken was a bit bland for my taste. The chow mein was a bit dry probably from rewarming it. Not a fan. Overall it was good since the price counters the cons substantially. They have other plates that may be better. Will update when visiting again.
Great place to get some solid Cantonese food. All my dishes were well prepared and tasty, and the seating was comfortable. Easy parking outside.

Food is very good. The brocoli beef, egg fu young, chow fun very good. They have chili oil and the good Saracha. Everyone very friendly. Clean bathroom.
I recommend that people don’t go with their kids because the manager with the short hair was so rude and disrespectful to my daughter in law n son and especially to my grandson who is autistic and yelled at them because he accidentally dropped his water n shouldn’t be yelling at customers period n I will visit that place when I visit Sacramento
