I expected good eats, but WOW. The oysters were a flavor explosion, the shrimp were scrumptious, and the chicken sandwich was to die for. I'm extremely impressed, thank you!

The food here is fantastic. The chicken is well seasoned, juicy, and thoughtfully made. The oysters I had were some of the best I’ve ever had. They’re so flavorful and the accompanying sauces are fantastic and pair perfectly. This is the best happy hour going.

Awesome atmosphere got our food in under 15 minutes and drinks in under five minutes (Saturday @ 2:45pm) I had the chicken and waffles. It was great.

Have eaten the Chicken Sandwich from here twice now, delicious! Second time there was Happy Hour with three other friends. Everyone ordered something different, and we we're all very pleased with our food. We received good service as well. And we all enjoyed our adult beverages!! A place we'd visit again!

I saw them on IG so I had to try it. Hubby had the burger and I had the chard salmon. It was absolutely amazing. Definitely going back to try the speakeasy part at the Roost. Loved the music. I was dancing while eating. Then I told the waiter that my drink wasn’t strong enough so she brung me a tequila shot for free. Definitely great customer service.

Me and the fam had a staycation downtown. We decided to try Bawk out. We got there right before their late night menu. It's pay up front which I love. They served us pretty fast. I got the short rib plate which I thought was really good. My wife and son got the chicken and waffles. They said the chicken was good but the waffle was ok. May have just been it was like a corn meal waffle. I thought it was fine. The Mac and cheese was creamy and cheese. I can't complain there. We also ordered a side of brussel sprouts which were on point. Overall, we enjoyed the food and the crowd. I will return.

We had the pleasure of enjoying some food and beer on a warm autumn night. We sat out front and vibed with all of the activity on R Street. The cauliflower wings are my go too. Ask for all of the sauces. Yum!

Now the Mac N Cheese with chicken bites was fire! 🔥🔥 definitely became an instant favorite. Definitely recommend this place. Good place to hangout with friends and have some drinks.

Honestly, I need to go back and order chicken and waffles with that sauce on top. It was delicious. The food filled both of us. I also tried the hibiscus lemon drop Bawktail and it was fantastic. Sweet, floral, refreshing. Also the glass was adorable. BAWK is seat yourself and you order at the counter. They bring you your food. The staff was also super sweet. Definitely a new favorite!

I've had this place on my "foodie" list for a while now and I was finally in the area and i gotta say I'm so glad i finally got to try them. I went with a friend and we ordered the Chicken And Waffles, a Butterscotch Pudding, an Apple Pie, and an Arnold Palmer and Lemonade. The chicken and waffles is by far one of the best I've had, we both got it with the Maple Hot Honey which didn't have any sort of spiciness in my opinion but was delicious nonetheless. The chicken was steaming hot, crispy, juicy and tender! The atmosphere is very chill, with a nice urban vibe, the graffiti floors were a fun touch of personality. The staff was friendly and great to interact with and they were quick to clear up a table after we ordered as it was fairly busy when we arrived. The only downside I'd say to this location is the parking as it's right in the downtown area, you just gotta be committed to finding a spot or willing to pay for parking in one of the lots nearby, but other than that i definitely recommend this spot! I'll definitely be coming back when I'm in the area

Wow! Everything we had was 5 stars....even the sweet tea and the Arnold Palmer! Chicken was great.....perfect breading and the meat was juicy. Fish was great! Really delicious fried chicken sandwich. We are very pleased to find this place. The host was super friendly & kind when we walked in and a bit puzzled being there for the first time (not knowing where are the menu to read and how to order (go to the ordering counter)). The ordering counter staff was very attentive and guided us with helpful tips. We gobbled up our food!!! We were visiting Sacramento for the weekend and we couldn't wait to come back here to eat what Bawk! offers. It is located in the really nice block with many restaurants all filled with young people. There were nice & spacious tables inside as well as outside. The nicely set-up water station with a spigot by the entrance was great. We could just refill our glasses without bothering a staff when spiciness of our food required more water. Lots of sauce dripping from my sandwich, but happy to find a clean bathroom to wash all my hands afterward.

The food is incredible. The service is.... ok. That is what made it 4 stars. But they have fabulous chicken. The waffles are amazing! So come for the great food. But don’t expect a lot from the service.

Cute spot for drinks and limited chicken themed menu. Get cocktails 🍷, beer 🍺 or cider 🥤 and chow down on some chicken nachos or chicken 🍗 sandwich and fries 🍟 This is totally a secret but they also have a speakeasy here 🙊 🙈 If you ask politely the bartender might even tell you more about this top secret speakeasy and it's location 🤫

Just Excellent! Why, becuase their food was flavorful, cooked perfectly and served with a smile. Mac N Cheese was good. Greens, mashed potatoes e/gravy and.coleslaw was BOMB! Fritos Misto was also amazing. Fried chicken was flavorful and fried perfectly. Fried Cauliflower was impressive as well.

I ordered the half chicken, Mac, salad, and muffin. So the salad was great not complaints dressing was a nice thick Ceaser The Mac was a little watery I prefer a thick/baked mac. I think the Mac could use a little more seasoning in my opinion with a thicker cheese sauce . The chicken was good it needed a little more seasoning though . A good brine would really help the chicken with moisture and flavor. The chicken was not burnt or super dry so it was watched and fried with care. The muffin was good no complaints there. This place is kind of self service deal, it’s really nice on the inside and outside. Wait time for the half chicken is 25min btw per the server.

Bawk! by Urban Roots was a good dining experience. I love the design and style of the restaurant. The spray paint/grafiti street style interior is really nice. The did was good. The collard greens were really good. The chicken was good. The oysters were good as well. The stout ybeer was a surprise. I regimen Bawk! by Urban Roots for anyone who loves soul food. The restaurant is small and the line can get long. Getting a seat at dinner time is extremely difficult. Overall, it was a good experience. I'll arrive earlier next time.

Not sure why.... but I accidentally ordered Roasted Chicken... that was my bad and it wasnt the yummiest. I still am giving 4 stars because I ordered buffalo cauliflower and that was delicious! Also everyone was very nice,attentive and polite.

My first time here but I don't think I would return. I got the fried chicken sandwich and it wasn't as flavorful as I expected. All I could taste was onions. I took the pickled cucumbers out of the sandwich and ate them and they were good. The chicken breast had skin on it which I didn't like. The chicken breast wasn't overcooked so that was good. I ended up just eating the chicken breast by itself with the pickled cucumbers. The fries were good. I prefer the skinny fries over the other ones. I also got the buffalo chicken wings with blue cheese. The wings were good not over cooked. The blue cheese didn't taste like blue cheese. Again a lot of onion. Aside from this customer service was great and fast. Clean restaurant. Small but enough.

I came to Bawk with great expectations, I saw the reviews on IG and I couldn’t wait to go so I went. I saw the secret room and was eager to see it but to my dismay everything was backwards. We ordered two drinks, got some food but drinks never came. We waited and waited for about 20 minutes and decided to ask about them. Apparently they forgot yo order it and not even an apology, just a you’ll get it soon and when we got them 10 minutes after they were wrong. No apologies just a you’ll get” we’ll be right back” the secret overflow room which was the main reason we came was not available because it was booked out for a party that apparently wasn’t there. Not sure what yo make it it. Needless to say we and left with a bad taste of the place. We’ll try again later maybe it was an off day but for now thats my review of Bawk.

The chicken is tender, juicy, and has good flavor. For the sandwhich, they offer white or dark mear. Its nice they have spicy level options. The waffle fries could be better: either needs to be fried a little longer or needs some seasoning on it. Drinks are good. It's a bit pricey but overall a good place to visit every now and then.

My daughter's chicken sandwich tasted as though it was also coated in salt. It's a shame too because the restaurant is cool, but I'm not sure I can ever trust the food again.

Went in and bought a 10 piece for $35 chicken and made it a meal for $15. Loved the waffle fries and waffle to replace the corn bread they were out of. Unfortunately, the 10 piece bucket was sad. It was a small chicken that was heavily, but deliciously battered. The breasts were split and there was very little meat. Personally, the Mac & cheese had too much garlic salt, and the cole slaw needed a little more sweetness. Was very disappointed, and don't think we'll be back anytime soon. I'll save my fried chicken cravings for Crack Shack in SD.

We paid $6 for what was honestly the worst coleslaw I’ve ever had—completely bland and lacking any flavor. The chicken was disappointingly dry, and we ordered the Nashville HOT, but there was no heat at all. We spent $55 on a chicken sandwich, kids’ chicken strips, coleslaw, and a mimosa—not including the tip, which is expected despite the self-service setup (even for things like silverware and water). That said, the ambiance was pleasant. The staff was friendly, and the dining area is cute and well-designed. I do agree with other reviewers, though—the music was way too loud, making it hard to enjoy the space.

Let me start by saying I never would have thought I'd see the day when I was giving this place a two star review. I've been hooked since the first time I came. Then they teamed up with Spider Monkey and started carrying this delicious peach cobbler so I was really hooked! To the point I was sometimes coming 2-3x a month. Up until yesterday when I called to place a to go order and was told they changed their menu. Whyyyyyyyy?! Seriously why mess up a good thing? I always got the half chicken plate in maple hot with greens and mac & cheese. And the fried cauliflower bites for an appetizer. The only thing they still have is the macaroni!!! OMG WHY?! I'm so disappointed. I really hope this is just an experiment.

Overcooked chicken, undercooked crisscut fries, rap music so loud couldn't have a conversation on the outside patio... only redeeming item was the fried cauliflower... n that small basket was 12$. Never again. You're better off at Burgers n Brew nextdoor.

im not gonna lie for the money me and my date spent the food was kinda cheeks,they put onions and peppers in there greens which is gross,the catfish isnt fried hard so it comes apart and the chicken is mild with very little seasoning,and the cornbread taste like cake,you can tell someone non melenated cooked the food ,would never come back here fixins is wayyyyy better

I was so excited to eat from here as this was our date night. We rented a movie and I put in an order for catfish, rice and beans, collard greens and honey cornbread. When we got our food, I was SHOCKED AT how LITTLE EFFORT was put into our $65 order. The rice and beans was literal soup. Soup! With no salt the beans were undercooked. The batter on the catfish was bland bland bland! And the collard greens were cooked in a tub of vinegar . Totally disappointing. If it wasn’t so cold outside I would’ve got my money back but I took this as a loss. Not sire if it was just a bad night cause last time we ate here it was absolutely delicious. But tonight, ball missed. Terrible terrible awful no seasoning at all. Will try again and hope for better next time.
