Best creole food in Sac, period. The drinks were boozy and excellent. Also got wings, they were tasty but nothing special. It's on the pricy side but I'd happily pay the premium for how good the food is. They forgot our sides and we had to ask twice, so took a point off for service. Easy street parking nearby.
Wow 🤩 the food was Excellent and I am very picky with Food esp Soul Food. However, I have to give them a 10/10. The staff was very friendly, and the place is nice and clean with a Good wholesome Soul Vibe with nice Music. My Hubby and I left with Food for the next day or two we had plenty of left over’s. Plus we live about 40min away and yes we’ve been back for round 2 esp for the Oxtails this time around and they were so flavorful and tender just falling off the bone in the savory gravy over rice just yummy. It was so delicious that I didn’t get a chance to take a Pic of our plates lol…I am definitely referring everyone I know to come and enjoy a nice Soul Food meal in Sacramento. We will be back again to try something new on the menu being that you guys have delivered on every meal thus far. Thanks Creole Soul we will see you guys Soon God Bless and One Love. :)
This place is perfection. I never thought I would find such good southern food in California, but here it is. The chicken is crispy, the catfish is flavorful, the waffles are soft, the peach cobbler is to die for, and each side was delicious. The atmosphere is unpretentious—no table cloths, no paper menus, and no gimmicks. Just a clean spot that could be quiet or could feel like a backyard get together. The music is loud, sports are on, and everyone is there to eat well and have a good time. If you’re a transplant from the south, this is where you go.
Visited this restaurant on a corner on a whim after I spotted it on my way to Freeport Bakery, and I'm glad that I did. The food was phenomenal (honestly one of my top 5 meals) and delivered to my table quickly. It definitely didn't disappoint—piping hot and full of flavor. I've noticed some people mentioning something about the service being lackluster, but I honestly couldn't notice anything lacking. I went for the food, and I was more than pleased. Definitely recommend if you're looking for something satisfying.
The oxtails were well seasoned per Restaurant name, tender and bountiful (serving size was ginormous)! The rice was cooked perfectly, not dry / or cooked in a rice cooker. The red beans & rice were also cooked to perfection (beans were whole yet soft). Cornbread was cornbread, not a sweet muffin, didn't fall apart when bitten, firm enough to stand up to Soulfood sides. The atmosphere gives an old established Southern Soulfood Cafe vibe. With Soul music playing in the background, lots of individual table conversations, bar serving interesting drinks, amazing food, fun, smiles...you know that 'Happy Feeling' like Uncle Franky B. sings about.
I was prepared to complain because there's ALWAYS something wrong with the soul food and bbq spots out here. Either the sides or the main course is off however I was pleasantly surprised. This is the first time everything I've tasted on my plate has been good. I'm going to go back and get something else to make sure it's consistent but I honestly cannot complain this has got to be one of the best in Sacramento. No funny infusions or gimmicky foods either. It's the real deal. That sugar cinnamon butter on the cornbread was🔥
Had a great experience eating here for the first time this past weekend. Being from the south it has been extremely difficult to find a restaurant with this level of food! Had the greens, chicken wings, hush puppies and fried okra. All 10/10. Will be going back and taking friends/family!
This is one of the best soul food restaurants in Sacramento. The shrimp and grits were unbelievable!!! I tried the chicken, yams, Mac and cheese along with the collard greens. They were so delicious!!! I recommend it wholeheartedly.
This was my first time in Sac and I didn’t think I would find a good spot based on what locals were telling me. Everything was really good, even their steak. The owner was very friendly and came out to check on us. The young lady that took our order was very pleasant and helpful. The fried chicken was crispy and fresh. The Mac was good, it tasted homemade and wasn’t over overpowering like other soul food spots I’ve had. Everyone has different expectations with Mac so you should definitely try it for yourself. They even put thought in the salad, they don’t give you basic lettuce that’s just water, you get lettuce with actual nutrients. The salad was bigger than I expected and I wasn’t made at it. Out of everything I ate, the cornbread has my heart!! If you don’t try anything else, GET THE CORNBREAD. It was sweet and soft and the butter they put on it…DELICIOUS!! Sacramento, I need y’all to keep this place in business so I can come back. Check them out for sure.
Place is pretty cool, my grandson wanted to try it while we were in Sacramento. He said he heard about it on tick tok or Instagram. Something I can't remember but the food was good and fair for the price and the staff was really nice which is very important. Should I find myself in Sacramento again and hungry, I will definitely go there again
Creole Soul Restaurant and Bar is a gem in Sacramento. The food is flavorful, well seasoned, comforting, and generously portioned, and the staff are warm and welcoming. If you love Creole comfort food, this place is definitely worth checking out.
The food is DEEELICIOUS! They don't always have a variety of fish and don't care for catfish and allergic to shellfish. Service well, alil slow after you order buut they do their best..lol! I will say the owner gave us shots of Tequila, which was AWESOME! You pay first, the restaurant is small and quaint. The atmosphere is a nice family oriented neighborhood vibe of mostly friendly folks. Overall, I really like this place. 🥰
It's a good location. The customer service was outstanding. From the time we walked in and placed our order, with the mixologist at the bar, til speaking with the owner before leaving. Then, eating our flavorful delicious food. It was a great experience.
This place has it all: Great flavors, friendly service and wonderful food & drinks. We had the wings, chicken fingers, collard greens, red beans and rice, Mac and cheese and cocktails. Everything was excellent 🚀The bartender was as cool as a cucumber with a busy bar and a lot going on. So impressed with everything about this joint. The old fashion was amazing. This is a big beautiful slice of New Orleans. We look forward to coming back for the shrimp, pork chops and more. Thank you❤️
This is our second time in this gem of a place. The food was amazingly tasty. We had the ribs, Mac & cheese, fried brussel sprouts, rice & beans and Smothered Pork Chop. Everything was amazing and the Pork Chop was 2 huge chops in the best rice and gravy on earth. So Good !! The cocktails done by Clarissa are fabulous. The Old Fashion is smoked. I never liked whiskey drinks and now this is my go to here. Honey bunny has a tasty coffee flavored tequila drink. We were very happy❤️
I was on this part of town dropping off Bushwacker Bob at the rest home so he could visit his mom on her 103rd birthday, she has dementia and thinks every man is Herbert Hoover ..who she had a thing for! But...Before dropping off Bushwacker we decided to eat at the Creole Soul Restaurant & Bar to have some amazing food. So the next time you want some amazingly delicious Creole food head to the Creole Soul Restaurant & Bar ..and tell them Herbert Hoover's gal sent you! ☆☆☆☆☆
The staff was friendly and the music was great. The prices do seem high when you first walk in, especially for ordering from a counter but it is honestly worth every penny. The portion sizes were generous and the food was delicious! Their prime rib was so good and so large, we have been charged more at high end places for less meat with less flavor. While I was hoping for a bit more spice to my spicy honey wings, they were juicy and flavorful and huge so I was still incredibly satisfied. Can't wait to go back honestly.
I recently visited Sacramento from Wichita, KS, and met up with my cousin at Creole Soul to catch up. He recommended the place, and I’m so glad he did! I ordered the catfish dinner with collard greens, fries, and a cornbread muffin, and he ordered the fried chicken and waffles. Everything was delicious, and the portion sizes were more than enough. We both had leftovers. The catfish was perfectly crispy and well seasoned, the greens had just the right texture, and the cornbread muffin had the right amount of sweetness. The fries were crispy just the way I like them. The atmosphere was relaxed, the music was great, and the staff were friendly and attentive. It wasn’t overly crowded, which made it the perfect spot to enjoy a great meal and good conversation. I didn’t get to try the desserts, but they had a nice variety, including sweet potato cheesecake, which I’ve only ever known my mom to make! I highly recommend checking out Creole Soul if you’re in the Sacramento area. Date and Time Visited: Saturday, October 4th at 11:00 a.m.
The food was 🔥!!!! Them red beans 🫘 and rice though 😋!!!! That blueberry cheesecake was 🤤! Tbh, everything was good. I can't wait to go back & try their steak! The service was great & we vibed with the music as we dined!
Amazing soul food option in downtown sac. Great customer service and atmosphere. The staff were extremely friendly and inviting. Serving size of meals were plenty! We left completely stuffed with food to take home and enjoy later. They also have a bar with a variety of house drinks to choose from for affordable prices. We recommend their catfish, Mac n cheese, and oxtails. Busier on weekends than during the week, however you will not be disappointed no matter when you stop by!
The vibe is something I can’t explain, my first time here and it felt like home. The staff was so welcoming and the owner also welcomed us. The food was amazing portions were also generous. Emily at the bar was very hospitable and made me feel like home. Will definitely be back and bringing friends and family.
we had very large party. we and did take long to come and nice hot. and the music. And atmosphere was very nice we can after church on Sunday.
I finally got to try this place and it did not disappoint! The catfish, brussel sprouts and mac n cheese was sooo good! I loved the music and vibe as well. You should definitely check it out!
The food is amazing!! The atmosphere leaves a bit to be desired, but the food makes up for it! The gravy is out of this world, and they are not stingy with it! The greens are leafy and not a bunch of stems, which I greatly appreciate, but they could be a bit more flavorful. The cornbread was a bit "cakey," but I guess some like very sweet cornbread. I found $40 a bit pricey for 2 pork chops, but again, they dont skimp on the sides like other restaurants in the area. Overall, this place was a hit, and it will become one of my regular spots.

This was our very first time here. We have been driving by for months and finally stopped by on a Friday evening. I ordered the ribeye steak, mac and cheese, and hush puppies. My husband ordered the jerk chicken and rice. The prices were a little steep, but nothing TOO crazy. His plate came to the table about 5-8 minutes before mine did. He tried to wait until my plate came out, but I told him to start eating. When I did receive my order, the steak was a good size, cooked the way I asked, and flavorful. The mac and cheese was creamy, cheesy, and delicious. The hush puppies were crispy and very flavorful. According to my husband, the jerk chicken was good but very spicy. I'll take his word for it because I do NOT eat spicy food! We got there around 5:30-6 pm. There were a couple of tables available, and we quickly called dibs on a table by the window. There was a steady flow of people coming in for dinner after we arrived. The atmosphere is very laid back and relaxed. R & B and soul music play over the speakers, and different baseball games were on the various TVs. Lively conversations and laughter overlapped each other, and everyone was enjoying their food and company. I would like to come back and try their other menu items. Maybe on a weekday when it's not so crowded.
I will start off by saying, the food is fire! Hard to really find good comfort soul food nowadays, but Creole Soul hit the spot! When in the restaurant, you order at the front then seating is first come first serve. We went on a Saturday night, pretty busy, but luckily found a cute 2 seater by the window. To order drinks, you have to go to the bar. It’s tricky because the bar is small and people were sitting there, which made it a little awkward to order and pay in between people eating and talking. I ordered a lavender margarita with a sugar rim, it was Perfect! Overall, I will be ordering again!
We decided to try the soul food restaurant that's been popping up on Instagram. Although you can eat there, it's not a full service restaurant. You place your order at the register, pay, and they'll bring it out to your table. I guess if you have large groups, it could work. It has a to-go feel. The food was good. We ordered boudin, cabbage, hush puppies, chicken wings, shrimp, and red beans 🫘 and rice. Everything tasted good! The cabbage was my favorite. The service was okay. I definitely felt one of the servers had to "warm up" to serving. She was kinda short at times as if we knew their process. Uummm, ma'am, we came with the assumption we would receive a restaurant experience. 🤷🏾♀️ I recommend 👌🏾
Took my 96 yr old mother in law & her sister out for lunch today. Wanted to go before 2 to have shrimp & grits. It was delicious & stood up to their southern standards. Also had pork chops & sides & jerk chicken ( special- not on menu) and catfish with greens & red beans/rice. We’d get everything again— but might get to go. It was very loud in there! I saw peach cobbler on menu, but it only came with the waffles. Wish they had some desserts. You order at counter & they bring order to you. That wasnt obvious at first. Place was full at 2pm on Saturday— parking tight
Food was good, but the red beans and rice had little to no seasoning. They were out of a lot of the sides that I really wanted to try. I also wish they’d greet you when you walk in.
We decided to try this spot on a random Friday, and wow we were truly impressed! The catfish was packed with flavor, and the gumbo over rice was absolutely delicious. Even the cornbread had a sweet glaze on top that was good. The vibes inside were a 10/10, and overall I’d rate the food a solid 9/10. We’ll definitely be back!
I had an amazing experience at Creole Soul! The moment I stepped in, I was greeted with warm hospitality and a cozy, inviting atmosphere. The menu is a true celebration of authentic soul food and Creole flavors, with dishes that are flavorful, hearty, and made with love. The fried chicken was crispy perfection 👌🏾 the red beans and rice packed with flavor, and the macaroni and cheese was cheesy and on point. The staff was friendly and attentive. Whether you're craving classic comfort food or exploring Creole cuisine for the first time, Creole Soul is the place to go. Highly recommended for a satisfying and soulful meal!
Finally had a chance to stop in at Creole Soul and it was totally worth it. You order at the front counter and then the staff brings you your food. The staff was super nice and friendly. We got the fried shrimp, fried chicken, collard greens, fried okra, and mac and cheese. The food was delicious and will definitely be back! There's limited parking, on street and around the place, so it wasn't too hard to find a spot and, again, definitely worth it!
We checked out Creole soul on September 17th for a later dinner. We arrived roughly around 7:45 and the place was still a bit busy but not overly crowded. There were a few folks at the bar and at least three other couples at the tables around the main dining area. The back section was being closed off and prepped to be cleaned. When we got to the cash register the individual behind the counter asked if it was our first time here and we told them yes. They were excited to tell us about the specials and what were some of the most popular items that people buy. I had told them that I was really interested in the mac and cheese and the fried blossom and she said that those were some of the main items that people get and are super tasty. The food overall was delicious. Specifically the catfish that I got because it was fried to perfection and you could tell that the fish was very fresh. And hands down the two sides of the blossoms and mac and cheese were super great with the choice of fish. My friend really enjoyed the chicken wings that came with his dish. Again they were cooked to perfection the sauce was a balance of both sweet and spicy and little tangy. The one call out for us was around the peach cobbler. The spice used for it through us off a little bit. We believe that maybe cloves were used in the seasoning mixture. This did take away from the taste of the peaches and the waffle itself. The potential clove addition was overpowering to the other ingredients. Other than that we would definitely go back and try other dishes on the menu.
My wife, son, and I tried this establishment for the first time. This is not a full service restaurant. You have to order at a small window first then find a table, then they bring the food to you. The employees are very nice and friendly. My wife had the catfish plate with 2 sides and comes with corn bread. I ordered the fried chicken plate with 2 sides. My wife enjoyed her food and said it was seasoned perfectly. My chicken was decent, nothing to really rave about. I was skeptic about the greens because normally I only eat my wife's grandma's greens, but it actually was really good. I enjoyed the greens more than I did the mac & cheese and chicken. The price was a little steep at $25 each plate. I'm definitely willing to come back to try more of their menu. Definitely give this place a try if you haven't been here.
1st time here & loved the food. Really good. I personally would've like my chicken cooked more crispy, but it was very juicy. Greens was well seasoned and ultimate chocolate cheesecake was thick...delicious. I recommend this place definitely for breakfast/brunch, but I'll be trying the fried fish next! Service was coo & the atmosphere was pleasant. Not crowed when I went, but parking is limited. Dishes were decently priced..my meal came to $47 (peach cobber waffle & chicken, collard greens, ultimate chocolate cheesecake & pineapple juice)

I wasn't expecting my entree to be entirely fried! (Including the Brussels sprouts! No sauce offered except ketchup. The menu I previewed online may have been a seasonal one, because the dish I wanted - shrimp and grits - wasn't being offered.
Had lunch here today and was thoroughly pleased. Restaurant is small but cozy. Walk up to register to place your order and they give you a number to place on your table. Food was very tasty, just a tad too much salt for my taste. I ordered the Ribeye with greens and Macaroni and Cheese for my sides. My grandson and his date ordered the Chicken Wings plate with two sides, both had greens and Macaroni and Cheese with cornbread. I ordered the Shrimp and Grits and a Catfish plate with fries and Macaroni and Cheese to go. Everyone was pleased with their food. Will go there again to try other items on the menu.

In a word: mediocre. This restaurant is fairly new and it definitely shows in the very limited menu, which is hand written on a chalkboard. I thought the food prices were a little steep on some of the menu items. There was not much to choose from but I did find something that I wanted to try, which was the fried catfish. It came with two sides, however, the selection was very limited. I ordered the greens and asparagus. I did like the catfish as it was crispy, seasoned well and was moist. The greens could use a lot more seasoning as they tasted very watery and the meat used to season them were tough and tasteless. The grilled asparagus were ok but cooked inconsistent as some were cooked just right and others were too crunchy. But overall they were seasoned well. I would like to see the restaurant offer more sides because what is offered now is not sufficient or substantial enough and it leaves one still hungry. Would I return to this restaurant? Probably not but I would recommend it if you are looking for chicken wings and fries.
I wanted to pick up something quick and also get an idea for how the food is. I ordered a side order of mac and cheese the staff was polite and there was a good crowd not super busy but steady I waited 12 minutes for the side order and was not acknowledged until I brought it up when I grow impatient. I want to return to see if I can have a better experience but for right now I wasn't very satisfied
The staff is great. They are kind and you can feel a sense of community. Greens were crunchy with little flavor and so were the other sides, the wings and fish were not cooked well enough for me. I did enjoy the hush puppies. This is my second visit and for my taste I will not return. Others eating and waiting to order seemed to love the food ....So please try it for yourself
UNACCEPTABLE!! NO MAC & CHEESE on a Sunday afternoon??!!! THIS WAS ONE OF THE MAIN REASONS I CAME. This was my FIRST visit to this place. What a bad first impression, especially since it's supposed to be authentic Creole cooking! The wait for my food was VERY LONG. The catfish was so-so at best and the red beans were bland .....tasted CANNED! 😡. I WILL NEVER patronize this spot again.
This was the worst food I’ve eaten from there. I’m was highly disappointed! Chicken was burnt, greens were very bitter, with a shred of meat on top, Mac N Cheese was bland, too much oil…and lastly the Hush Puppies, those little balls, of a dark mess, undercooked and also greasy. Creole Soul should be shamed of that disastrous whatever you would call it! It was definitely not worth the money spent. This was a take out. Whoever that cook was, should be handed their walking papers!
I got the salmon with mac n cheese and fried zucchini.. I just don't really know where to start. The Mac and cheese was sOo greasy and mushy.. There's very little seasonings on my salmon or the zucchini.. I mean no salt. I had been waiting to try this place for a while and I must say it was a very disappointing experience. The waitress was nice but they don't offer you water while you wait or check in. Why is it soOo hard for these spots to put together decent sides? Salmon was ok and I like that they have Crystal Hot Sauce packets but to be honest..... Sometimes I only want sides so I probably wouldn't choose to return.

Whole chicken wings were fire! Greens were good macaroni was good! But I also ordered A ribeye and they had the nerve to give me a slice of ROAST And called it a ribeye!!! I will not be returning just because of the roast switcheroo. The nuggets were Tyson and the lemonade is Tropicana not not fresh. I still can’t believe they served me roast.
