Opinions de Orphan Breakfast House Sacramento
Orphan is a great neighborhood treasure. I was a little hesitant to order a Mexican dish where traditional American comfort foods are featured. But I went for it at the recommendation of our server. The Breakfast Tamales were delicious and beautifully presented. It was a very generous portion.
Super cute little place. Lots of seating. The parking lot is small but there is street parking. We didn't have to wait too long even on a Sunday and there were lots of people. I got the avocado scramble omlet thing and he got french toast. The food was great and I loved the rosemary bread. He said the coffee was ok but the food was great. The service was also wonderful!
Popular breakfast spot. I got the avocado scramble with a side order of bacon and in-house made berry jam. The coffee here is very strong. Good service and friendly staff. Wouldn’t recommend if you’re looking to read or work on your laptop as the ambiance is more social in nature. Great for small-medium size parties. Cash or check only, and they have an ATM inside.
Wow. First, let me just say for the businesses I review, if you're in the restaurant class - I'm extremely prudent with my 5 star reviews. Orphan was phenomenal, if you like rosemary - Which fortunately, I do. Rarely am I impressed with a meat, potato and eggs breakfast but this was really special. The potatoes were seasoned well, salty with fragrant rosemary, and the chives gave them a nice freshness. The eggs were cooked perfectly and so was the steak. The horseradish sauce was also a delight. Strong with a nice bite you would expect but not overwhelming. My partner got the jalepeno pancakes and they were exceptional as well. Finally, let me tell you about their fresh rosemary bread - buttery, warm, and fluffy and extremely addicting, Keto goers beware. Lastly, let's talk coffee. Is it perfect? No, but for a diner it's better than average. They offer pour over on their menu, so Ill try that next time. I'd love to experience this place again with a fresh cup of Kona Peaberry pour over, for that nice cinnamon and plum sweetness or even on the cheaper end maybe a Costa Rica Vara Blanca single origin, a bit more fruity but it would cut through the intensity of the rosemary they love here. All in all, this place is a Gem.
I have searched far and wide and can say without any reservation, Orphan is far and away the best breakfast in Sacramento! The only negative part of this place is choosing what to eat. There’s about 20 things on the menu. So far I’ve probably tried eight menu items and literally all of them have hit it out of the park! Everything I haven’t tried also looks fantastic and I can’t wait to come back and try the rest. The blue berry corn meal pancakes, savory cakes, and French toast have been the stand outs. The French toast could just be the best there is period, this place is that good and doesn’t get near the praise it deserves. Other popular breakfast places like the Morning Fork and Bacon and Butter don’t even hold and candle to Orphan. Five out of Five and then some for this one! Also, after your finished eating, it’s only a few blocks from the rose garden in Mckinley Park which is worth the walk!
Great menu. Lots of interesting plates and the special was breakfast carnitas tacos. Really cool vibe. Small parking lot but plenty of street parking on a Sunday. Service was moderately slow but the restaurant was super busy so understandable. The staff was friendly and attentive. I would definitely recommend.
Nice quiet little spot tucked away in a nice neighborhood. Got there real early so there was no line for breakfast. Great coffee, good food, great service.
I love this place, always a wait but the food is delicious. Must remember this place is cash only, but they do have an atm inside.
Warm inside on a cold day, spacious yet cozy, very comfortable bench seat cushions, really captures the transference from hippie to hipster when it comes to natural food dining. Excellent quality food, made with attention and artful presentation. Nothing overly salted, spiced or unnecessarily sweetened. Highest marks for portioning. Price/quality/portion ratio was spot on. No to go needed, comfortably stuffed but not over fed, and no heavy post- breakfast sluggishness. Would definitely recommend and try again.
We had plans to go to another restaurant but they could not accommodate my group of seven. I called Orphan Breakfast House from the other restaurant parking lot and they said that would be able to accommodate us. Everyone was so nice from the person that I spoke to on the phone to our server. The food was very good. They have a wide variety of foods and drinks. I love how they have water on the table for self-service. Just a heads up they only take cash or checks. They do have an ATM in the restaurant. I will go back for another visit soon.
Orphan Restaurant is a hidden gem when it comes to breakfast options. From the moment you step inside, you are greeted with a charming and cozy atmosphere that instantly puts you at ease. The menu offers a wide variety of mouthwatering breakfast dishes that will satisfy any craving. Whether you're in the mood for classic pancakes, hearty omelettes, or inventive avocado toast, Orphan Restaurant has got you covered. Each dish is expertly prepared with fresh ingredients, bursting with flavor and beautifully presented. The attentive and friendly staff make your dining experience even more enjoyable. Don't miss the chance to start your day off right at Orphan Restaurant, where breakfast truly becomes an unforgettable experience. Only thing to remember is it’s cash only.
A tucked away brunch spot for a fun date (with someone or by yourself!) 🤠 Remember to bring some cash (or your debit card to use their ATM) because they do not accept credit cards here. Apart from that slight inconvenience, I really enjoyed my brunch there! You have options to seat inside or on their covered patios outside. The Orphan has a small, but hearty menu to offer and I opted for their Breakfast Sandwich special. It was beautifully plated with thick slices of their homemade rosemary bread and served with fragrant, crispy rosemary potatoes. There is one small detail to note, as they don't have ketchup in house (if that's your thing) but they make house salsa and have Tapatío bottles available on the tables. Overall, enjoyed my experience there and will come back to try more dishes!
I can't believe I waited so long to come here. Absolutely great. Food was awesome (I had the dragon potatoes and tropical tea drink ). Service was on it, and super sweet and accommodating. We went on a Monday at 11am, no wait. If I had to give any constructive feedback it would be that the bathrooms need a deep cleaning, they are a little yucky. But everything else, awesome! I'll be back 😊
Orphan was a recommendation from my cousin when I asked about a good brunch spot for my boyfriends birthday. I'm so glad we went! It's a quaint little spot! We only waited about 30 minutes for our table. We were sat at a table outside that was right by a heater (it was a little chili out today!). Our server, John, had great energy. He told us about the specials and told us his favorite item on the menu. The food came fairly quickly, considering how busy they were (it was a Sunday, late morning). I had the Avocado scramble while my boyfriend had the Breakfast burrito. I loved the rosemary potatoes and bread that came with mine! And the size of the burrito! So much food! It was great. We will definitely go back. I want to try a few of the other items on the menu!
Wonderful workers and food! Even though it was busy, we were seated and our orders were taken quickly. The outside seating was cute and atmospheric. I wish I had remembered our servers name, she had short blonde hair, tattoos, and was nice and helpful. Their coffee con pan was delicious and their banana blackberry pancakes were nice and fluffy. Definitely recommending this place as a go to breakfast spot!
The food was amazing!! Oh my goodness!! I couldn't stop eating even tho I was full. It was that good. The rosemary potatoes had so much flavor with just the right amount of crunch to them, the avocado scramble melted in your mouth, the blueberry banana pancakes to die!! Portions are huge! Prices are great!! Parking is hard to find, but they have a sign letting you know devours can help you find a place to park where you won't get ticketed. The staff was awesome. Definitely worth finding this spot. You HAVE got to go!!!
Just wow!!!! Such a great little gem! Make sure you bring cash. They do have a free ATM inside-. I totally took them up on that! The medium pour over coffee choices were a nice touch!!! Asked the server to assist in food choice- and did not disappoint!!!! That breakfast was not only pretty. But was so tasty!!!! Definitely recommend! Healthy and made to order.
Me and my wife moved to Roseville CA in April 2023 and since then we have eaten here for breakfast probably close to 20 times if not closer to 25. This place is amazing and worth the wait which there may be because they are just so popular. The food is ALWAYS fresh and tasty, proportions are consistently the same, and I think the price for dishes are great. The item in this picture is the dragon potatoes with 2 eggs added as a side. The staff is always so friendly and attentive. When ever family comes to visit me and my wife this is the place we take them. Make sure to watch where you park since the restaurant is located inside a neighborhood.
I always love this place, it is cash only so keep that in mind. Also everyone here remembers my dogs name but has no idea what the heck my name is which is pretty common everywhere. The coffee is excellent too, order your coffee black and enjoy the actual coffee unmasked by cream, sugar and pumpkin. Tell them you know ‘Crash,’ the dog and get a 10% discount on your food too, it’s a great deal.
The food was delicious with fresh ingredients. We enjoyed dining on the patio. I had the avocado scramble with rosemary potatoes and rosemary bread with butter and fresh jam. The potatoes were cooked perfectly not hard like many places who rush the orders. I was not a fan of the breakfast blend coffee, but maybe my cream to sugar ratio was off. I have heard they are known for their coffee so I will try a different roast next time. My kids had fresh peach savory pancakes with fresh cooked peaches, and one of the specials. They were very happy with their choices. We highly recommend this place.
A little taste of Santa Cruz in Sacramento. This charming little vine-covered building houses a unique menu, pleasant surroundings, delicious food and great service. The only drawback for some is that they take cash or check only; no credit cards. The food, however, more than makes up for that minor hurdle. Always delicious, always well-prepared, always served with a smiling face, it's no wonder Orphan has stood alone for years, adding a unique dining experience to an eclectic Sacramento dining scene. Try it soon.
This place was amazing both indoor and outdoor seating, the staff is great and the manager is the best. The special I got was the oreo cookie pancakes which for what I could tell were made with buttermilk perhaps and very tasty. The medium roast coffee was excellent not overly roasted, smooth and flavorful. I did enjoy the blueberry mint sparkling lemonade perfect balance of flavors. The grande burrito was huge and tasted amazing. Initially the burrito had come out wrong as my wife had ordered it without scallions because of her food allergy but the manager made it right and the made the experience all the better. Ordered a side of French toast which came with some berries and fruit syrup and that was very scrumptious. Definitely recommend this place for breakfast.
This is an amazing local restaurant. The food was delicious. The staff were fun and welcoming. We loved the pets in the outdoor seating area. This is a nonalcoholic beverage location, but it looks like they make delicious drinks and have fun locally owned coffee selections. Don’t forget to add to the pet food money jar! ❤️
Very filling, there was indoor and outdoor seating. Coffee was good, no flavored creamers fyi, big menu, big plates. Cash only which is fine, they have an ATM on site. Service was great, good timing, and our waiter was friendly. Food was flavorful, I got the corn tamales (no meat inside fyi) my cousins had pancakes which looked delicious and very fluffy. (If you're diabetic I'd suggest asking for no powdered sugar and butter on the side) I will definitely be back 😋
After hearing many positive reviews from friends, I decided to go here for Saturday brunch was not disappointed! Great service, a large menu of delicious breakfast & lunch items, and both indoor and outdoor seating. I had the French toast with powdered sugar and berry compote, which was probably the most decadent and delicious French toast I’ve ever had! There is a good mix of savory and sweet options overall, many of which are Latin-cuisine inspired. The place fills quickly, especially on weekends, and street parking is limited, so I recommend parking a few blocks away and making a short walk. Only cash and check are accepted, but there is an ATM inside. Definitely recommend Orphan!
Me and my mom came in for breakfast. The food was amazing and the vibes were great. They were playing great oldies music. It was such a nice relaxing vibe. I got the French toast. It was so flavorful and soft. My mom got the dragon potatoes which were also full of flavor and delicious. We seriously loved this place and will be coming back. Recommend you come on a weekday because it gets really busy on the weekends.
The valet at our hotel recommended this place and it did not disappoint! I order the Two Plus and my husband got the grande burrito. The bacon was cooked perfectly and the pancakes were fluffy and delicious! Im pretty picky on my tortillas but this place got it right! The tortilla was fresh and cooked perfectly. The food inside the burrito waa flavorful and amazing! He also ordered a.side of French toast which he said was "bomb"! Shoutout to the chefs because they know what their doing!! Highly recommend this place! Keynote they only take cash or checks so come prepared with appropriate payment!
CASH ONLY Great place for breakfast— especially Mexican theme. Tho their basic breakfast with rosemary bread is my husbands favorite. I often like seasonal specials— like pumpkin pancake. Coffee is great— you can buy a pound & get free cuppa! Parking can be challenging— read signs carefully
Our first visit and we'll definitely return. We've driven by a few times, but so many people were waiting out front we kept going. We arrived just before 9 and they said 15 or 20 minutes, so we added our names. Less than 5 minutes later we were seated. Our waitress came right away and got us started with drinks and offered the daily specials. We shared carrot cake waffles to start, yummy! It wasn't too sweet and had a cream cheese frosting. I ordered the artichoke scramble and a side of bacon. The food arrived just as we finished the pancakes. It was hot and looked appetizing. My eggs were scrambled nicely, and there was a lovely cheese pull. The potatoes were good and crispy. There is a lot of rosemary flavor, but it is not overwhelming. Don't skip the homemade rosemary bread. It was amazing. Finally, the coffee from a local roaster was robust and flavorful.... now I'm hungry again!
This a great brunch hangout spot!! The food was perfect. The three dishes we got were the Papas Loco, Triple Happiness, and Banana Blackberry Pancakes. (Along with some coffee). All dishes tasted great. But the star of the meal was the pancake, it was cooked perfectly with the right amount of sweetness. The only downside to this restaurant is the parking. The parking lot is very small so you have to park along the street (past the permit required zone). Even though it has a little downside, I would still highly recommend!
Our first time here. We ordered the dragon potatoes...amazing. this is a must order item. The French toast was crisp on the outside and soft, almost gooey, inside. Excellent. The breakfast tamales were nice but not super exciting. The platas Verde with eggs over medium was super good. The Verde sauce is mild. Make sure you order potatoes.
Love, love this breakfast place! Cash only but they have an ATM inside if you forget. They can be quite packed on the weekends but it is well worth the wait. My husband has celiacs and asks for caution with any of the gluten free dishes which they have plenty of and they always make sure to. They have delicious gluten free pancakes. The orphan French toast is an absolute must whenever you go along with their dragon potatoes. They sell their rosemary bread in loaves and it is amazing. It can feel a little cramped at times when it's super busy but they also have great outdoor seating if you need a little more space.
Omg. This place is heaven! Absolutely delicious! We stopped here on our way to Lake Tahoe from San Francisco... Best choice ever! Savory pancakes, 🥞 I should have ordered the full stack! The Papas Loco were so flavorful and unlike other places the rosemary potatoes weren't overpowering. Pesto scramble was so good we had to prevent ourselves from licking the plate 🙈 #Drollworthy place for breakfast for sure!
Food was incredible. We tried the avocado scramble, the gluten free pancakes and the blackberry banana pancakes. Servers and hostess were amazing and the terrace outside with the sunlight were delightful. Would have stayed longer if it were for the line outside the door! Would travel to Sac again just for this breakfast!
Amazing food, top-notch service, and a great vibe! I had the place to myself by arriving early, though it started buzzing by 7:30. Parking is tight, but it’s absolutely worth it—a total hidden gem!
I have been to the Orphan Breakfast House with my family about a couple times already. I had recently tried a variety of multiple of their breakfast foods over the years, and I personally really loved the beautiful quality of their breakfast making, and as well their lunch special. Although, it's not such a big or a roomy restaurant. But regardless, the people who works there are very kind and is super nice to the customers. I would give this place a super great rating. Their service is not as slow as expected.
Absolutely loved Orphan! Wonderful quality food. I enjoyed literally everything we ordered. Can't wait to go back! Also VERY PLEASED (I hope you're reading this, Orphan!) that when I asked for whipped cream for my daughter's pancakes, they provided a nice serving of the real deal, not some gunk with fillers out of a can.
Stopped by today around noon, waited 20 mins or so and got seated outside. Ordered the savory pancake (amazing!) , French toast, normal pancakes and another dish. All I can say is wow! Everything was delicious, French toast and savory pancake was some of the best I’ve ever had. Can’t forget the delicious rosemary potatoes and bacon.
A reasonable and accurate 30 min wait around 11:15 am on a busy Sunday. Got to sit outside and while it took a little bit to be able to order due to how busy the staff were, the food came out very quickly and was excellent. Server was very sweet and enthusiastic even though they were very swamped. Ordered the blueberry cornmeal pancakes, a side of bacon, the dragon potatoes, and an iced coffee with a refill for $41 total. Cash only!
This is a cute little restaurant in Sacramento I didn’t even know existed. I walked from the Hospital to and from this location. Great food and service. It is cash or check only, so fyi before you go. Thank goodness I had some cash on me. The place was packed. Food and service were great.
I absolutely love this place! Love that they offer delicious vegan options. October is the vegan chef challenge and this is my 2nd year coming back to try what's on the menu for this challenge. Definitely did not disappoint. We could never make up our mind. So my daughter and I always choose different dishes so we then can split them to try each one lol. I 100% recommend this place! Oh yeah and their coffee is so smooth and delicious 😋 ☕️ Take me back! (Yummy Pancake not pictured on this post)
We had breakfast here today, and I ordered the steak and eggs it was really good, I enjoyed it a lot! I just wish they had ketchup, though 😅. The server gave me their own house sauce, kind of like salsa, and it actually paired really well with the meal. We dined inside, and the only downside was that it got really noisy with people talking so loudly, which made it a bit hard to relax. Still, the food made up for it, and overall, I’d definitely consider coming back here again. Just a heads-up: they only accept cash, but there’s an ATM available inside for convenience
Do yourself a favor and drop by for the flavor! So many things to choose from, but I tried the Eggs Lulu and rosemary toast with avocado IT WAS DELICIOUS! And Bryan gave me the best personal customer I can't wait to come back! Update: I came back a few weeks later and Serene was our server, just lovely! And the meal was superb 👌
Stopped by on a whim on a Friday morning. The food was delicious, the service was fast and friendly, and the atmosphere was great. There were a variety of seating options: inside, outside under a covered patio, and a few tables out front w/o a covering. The location is cash only, but they have an ATM available. Looking forward to returning with friends!
Awesome spot for breakfast!! First of all I loved the fact that this restaurant is on the corner of a beautiful residential street; so it feels like your having a home-style breakfast right by home and the food is amazing! The pancakes are rich and fluffy and you can taste the quality of their ingredients here, we lived every bite of food we had and highly recommend you come check this gem out!
This place is super cute and the food was yum yum yum, in my tum, tum, tum. Quality baking too! The rosemary bread, chefs kiss! My friend ordered the savory cakes which she raved about and I cleaned the entire plate of my roast beef hash, which was kinda like suoer tender fajita steak and eggs. I would give it 5 stars if they served mimosas with brunch... but then no one would leave! It's away from the busier midtown area, so just a more peaceful vibe to enjoy brunch.
This neat little treasure is tucked away in one of East Sac's most prestigious neighborhoods. Located near the Old Cannery, Orphan's ivy covered facade invites passers by into a chic but casual dining atmosphere where they can choose from a number of vegan dishes or load up on more traditional breakfast fare. Our server promptly arrived at our table to offer us beverage options. She was also kind enough to educate us on the differences in coffee roast which I had no knowledge of. I opted for a light roast and the avocado scramble which came paired with the most delicious rosemary potatoes and a thick slice of a toast with a tinge of sweetness. Though a mostly meatless breakfast, I was full and well satisfied halfway through my meal. There is no doubt I will be dining at Orphan again.
My first time here and it was alright! They were very busy and seemed like only a few servers got the whole place. Our server was very nice. French toast was really good... it's like a cinnamon roll minus the frosting. Potatoes were great and bacon was cooked perfectly. They DO NOT have ketchup. I'd def come back to try something else, life the pancakes. Also, maybe when it's not so busy. It's pretty loud inside too.
My brother suggested this place for family brunch. The prices were reasonable, staff was friendly, and the food was extremely good. I had the rosemary potatoes and carrot cake pancakes (special of the day) the potatoes were so good I didn’t fell the need to use the tapatío sauce. One of the features I can’t over look is the real maple syrup available on the table (you don’t have to ask for it like a speakeasy, or try to explain to some 20 something that real syrup from a tree to have him look at me like I’m crazy). The over all atmosphere is pretty cool and I can see why it’s so popular. My only complaint is their payment policy, it’s cash or check only. On the plus side they do have an ATM on site so you can pull cash for your meal.
The service is excellent, the establishment itself is pretty nice - The food felt like it was good but was a bit overcooked and just a little dry. No complaints really I would probably eat here again, the menu was better than other spots around town - the food could just be plated and cooked a bit better I think but at this price it's great. The Omelet Special and the Blueberry Cornmeal Pancake were the standout here for me.
Great place for a breakfast and lunch with a Mexican twist. The french toast is super soft and the shrimp tacos are huge! The coffee is pretty good too and make sure to check out the monthly specials. My only complaint is no ketchup but I’ll definitely be coming back to try more from here. 4.0/5.
The food is AMAZING, and the staff is lovely. My only issue that they under estimated our wait time by about 45 minutes. I know that’s a difficult thing to estimate and depends on the other customers. I just prefer a place to over estimate my wait time rather than grossly under estimate it. Overall, will be back here many times for sure!!
Food was delicious and great selection. Server was nice and we didn't felt rushed. It's busy, but we were seated within 5mins. The only reason it's not a 5 is due to very limited parking..we drove around twice looking for a spot. You will need to park and walk. Love the setting. Love how the doors open up and the inside and outside of the restaurant becomes one. I forgot to take a photo of it.
This is a great little place. They have homemade rosemary bread which was subtle and delightful. We both ordered the Roast Beef Hash breakfast which is rosemary potatoes, eggs, and grilled steak pieces with 2 slices of rosemary bread and a horseradish cream sauce. My husband had an Arnold Palmer, while I had a wonderful chamomile tea. There is a bit of a wait because they are popular but it was only 10-15min, and they have outdoor seating. The price was good too, $36 before tip. Overall a great place I highly recommend.
The savory cakes (bacon n jalapeño) were really delicious, the monthly special peach cobbler pancakes were also suuuper good! Try to avoid the beef hash, it was dry and unseasoned- no one was a fan. The wait can be over the top. Overall four stars just because of the beef hash being a disappointment. All cash or check only here.
Orphan I met up with a few buddies of mine on a Friday (4/26) afternoon for lunch. Never been here before. Orphan came up as a search result on Google AI maps based on top rated restaurants with vegetarian option. Is it top rated? Here is my impression. The place is neatly located in a quiet neighborhood on a street corner near McKinley Village. Parking is limited; I had to park in the neighborhood but makes for a nice walk in. The place is cozy, clean, and welcoming. They seat you only when everyone in your party is present. There’s outside patio seating which is cool. There are several menus a breakfast and a lunch. We were given the breakfast one and had to look up the lunch menu online. Our server was pretty chill. Friendly but not over bearing. He was able to answer our questions and offered a few recommendations. Service is a 4/5 (ding for having to wait to be seated and given only the breakfast menu). Our food arrived hot from the kitchen within 15 minutes of ordering. I ordered the vegetarian bowl but added grilled chicken protein to it. It came out great! Presentation is spot on and the taste was excellent! Perfectly seasoned and not too saucy. Chicken was delicious. Definitely a solid 5/5. The meal set me back about $25 with tax and tip and water. A little pricey for lunch. The value to price ratio is an easy 4/5. I will definitely return with the family and try out some of the other items on the menu. If you are in the area looking for a relaxing place to grab a nice bite to eat, this place will not disappoint if you are okay with paying more for lunch. Keep in mind this place ONLY accepts cash. No credit cards. They do have an ATM inside. This can be an inconvenience for some folks. Overall experience dining here is about a 4/5. Came to this place after seen the great reviews here. First time, it was so packed we left without eating. Came back today for a second time. After a 35-40 min wait, we were seated inside. The patio area seems nice. On the front door we saw a sign that said cash only. They had an ATM inside just in case one did not have cash. I guess I did not check really well the place because after seating I also learn that they don’t sell alcoholic beverages. At that time I figure the food must be amazing for this place to have such high rating. Unfortunately the food was average. I had the avocado eggs, which were just OK. The potatoes were cold and burn. Service was good though. As it stands, I don’t see myself going back to this place.
Customer service was great and the pancakes were tasty, but the coffee was burnt and undrinkable. Savory dishes were pretty bland. It’s cash only, but they do have a fee-free ATM on site.
Not sure what all the hype is about- the food was extremely disappointing!!! The French toast was cold, dense, and soggy; I expected it to be somewhat crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside, but instead it felt like I was eating a leftover cinnamon bun. The grande burrito was very flavorless, and there was not enough salsa on the side to save it. Totally not worth the 40-minute wait for a table! The server was friendly, but I didn't like that she put the check on the table before I was even done eating, as if she was trying to rush me out. As others have mentioned, this place is cash only, which I didn't see written anywhere (maybe I missed it?). When I mentioned I only have credit card (I probably should have read reviews before going there), they very reluctantly took Venmo as a one-time exception. I will say though that the pourover coffee is fantastic and the outdoor seating was really nice on a sunny day (they had heaters outside as well).
Eggs were good, great bread, steak in steak and eggs was pretty dry and way too many ligaments if you’re going to cut it up like that. Don’t get meat here. Pastries at the table next to us looked a lot better I feel like this is more of a café.
Honestly, this place is really overhyped. The food was a letdown. The Dragon Potatoes weren’t good, and the Orphan French Toast was dry. On top of that, they only accept cash, and finding parking was a hassle. I left pretty disappointed. The only bright spot was my server with blue hair, who was friendly and attentive. Thank you.
Let me start off by saying the food here is delicious. When I got here there was a wait. We decided to wait the 20 minutes to be seated outside instead of a longer wait for inside. It was a cold November morning about 8:30 and we sat outside. They didn’t have any outdoor heaters and the seats were cold and hard. The server took forever to take our order and get us beverages. When waiting for our food it again took a long time. In the end when we finally got some food, it was so delicious that we both decided it was worth the wait. But I warn you we left about a hour and forty-five minutes later.
From the outside, the restaurant looks pretty cozy. However, we were a bit worried when we found out it only accepts cash, since we don’t have any. (Seriously, why should I pay a fee to get cash from an ATM?) Is it a tax thing? I couldn’t believe this in America. And in the morning, they mentioned they didn’t have ketchup, which was a bummer. Plus, parking around here can be a bit of a challenge.
I finally found a parking spot to try this cafe . The staff was super friendly . It was busy this morning surprisingly but no one seemed to mind the wait . Parking is still atrocious, but the service was nice. However , I’m a little underwhelmed with the food and coffee. The pancakes were very fluffy and light but the toppings lacked flavor and the maple syrup didn’t really help the taste (it tasted like sugar free syrup ), the house coffee was strong but there wasn’t much to enhance it ; I enjoy the extra decorative parts of coffee. The restroom was dirty which was surprising since I haven’t noticed many reviews about it . The staff was super nice which I enjoyed but not sure I would go through the hassle to come again.
Came here after reading the reviews. Drinks are different the teas have different flavors with them our server didn’t tell us about it. It wasn’t busy but it took forever to get our food. One couple actually left it took so long. Once we got our food mine was good and the fruit was fresh. The other plate was ok needed ketchup that they don’t carry because they are too good for it. The rosemary that bread was worse thing I ever in my mouth. Our server was terrible she only came to our table 3 times. To take our order give us our drinks and give us our food. No check in and I had to go to the front to get my own check. I won’t be back go there with lots of patience.
Wife wanted to try a new place so we came here. We were seated pretty quickly but it took an hour to get our food. Friendly staff however they were not attentive. Took 30 minutes to get another cup of coffee and the food honestly was just okay. I don't understand why this place is so popular but to each their own. I won't be coming back. The reason for the 2 stars is the coffee was pretty good. Wish I could have had more but didn't want to keep waiting. Also parking was extremely difficult to find.
Here's the caveat right up front. Should I have read the menu closely. Yep. So...my fault? Yep...I guess so. Food...pretty good. I had "savory pancakes". Tasty. But...$4.50 for a cup of coffee. Not a big heaping mug. Just a standard 12oz cup. High?...yeah but okay. But then....$1.00 extra for a refill! Let that sink in. A breakfast place. Serving coffee at $4.50 a pop, then charges an extra buck for a refill. This isn 't a coffee shop with people camped out on laptops. It's a freaking restaurant. Give me a break. And then the bill. They only take cash or check. Oh...I can use the convenient ATM machine which will charge me a fee of course. I had the cash so no big deal but seriously?....no thanks. I'll take my business elsewhere from now on.
I usually enjoy ordering from here, but this time I was really disappointed. I specifically asked for my food without meat, and the dish still came with meat in it. This is an important detail for me, and it completely ruined my meal. I’m not trying to be harsh, but mistakes like this should not happen. Please pay more attention to special requests in the future. I hope the restaurant improves, because the food is normally good.
