Opinions de Chupacabra Kitchen Salado
Food is good all around. Many options. Good portions as well. If you go to the bar next door, they will bring you your food.
Always good, always welcoming. They have a great selection of beer on tap and wine by the glass or bottle nextdoor. We order at the kitchen, and head to the bar. They'll bring the food to the table when it's done.
When it comes to a historic town, you want something memorable: a setting, the history, eats, and drinks— you can order, eat in, or take out in the kitchen or eat in at the Chupacabra Craft Beer next door. Hey lol you can take it anywhere- which is what I did 😎 around the corner and to some live music.🎶 Wings! Dry rub! Need I say more! The quick sides are memorable and the brussels sprouts oh so yummy. The menu is actually on my fridge! Bon appétit!
Holy cow, I’m obsessed! Where do I begin? The burger was amazing—the toppings, the soft bun, and the layered bacon were perfect. The fresh, seasoned fries with a side of homemade fry sauce (mayo + ketchup) were a great touch. The drink selection is impressive (beers + wines) —even offering non-alcoholic wine! I will be back!!
Stopped here on our way back to San Antonio and glad we did! Hard to find places with fried pickle spears instead of chips, so already a win in my book. We got burgers with fries and tots and everything was hot and tasty. The seasoning on the fries and tots add a great flavor without being overpowering and the sauce it comes with is also good. They will even deliver your food to the bar next door. Will definitely make a plan to come back.
Oh yes I did! It’s been about 20 years since I’ve eaten a Monte Cristo sandwich and this one did not disappoint. My husband’s burger was also great. Not much for atmosphere, but the food makes up for that. They let us bring a beer from next door. The teenagers running the Friday night were attentive, respectful and seemed to keep busy actually working. Loved it!
We stopped by Chupacabra while visiting a relative stationed at Fort Cavazos. Even better was that it was a Monday, where they offer a 25% discount off the total bill if you have any military or first responders in your party! It was over 100°F outside and they are located next to a creek where several of the customer's children were cooling off in. Their frozen cocktails definitely hit the spot in the midst of this blazing Texas heat. The staff on both the restaurant and bar sides were very friendly and helpful in recommending items. We only ordered bar foods, but all were quite delicious adn reasonably priced. I also enjoyed their expansive merch selection and was happy to take home a new t-shirt.
Nice little bar, brewpub, grill in Salado. About 75 to a 100 beers on tap. Lots of gifts hop items to check out. Also takeout wine for sale. You order your food in a different section and can eat there unless you want alcohol then you go back outside then in the bar area. Had the French dip sandwich and wife had a mushroom swiss burger. Also had an order of cheese curds, very good but more of an order for 4 people. Both sandwiches were excellent. Lots of t shirts and cookies available to buy. Decent amount of parking but is right on main highway through town so be careful crossing the street
Located in the middle of a small town with a cool, peaceful atmosphere. The staff was very friendly and happy to take our order. She laughed with us and we enjoyed the experience eating here even more with her happy attitude. The food was cooked perfectly, the bread was perfect for a philly cheesesteak. The only reason I gave a 4 star was that I prefer a lil more seasoning on my sandwich.. Seriously, everything was cooked perfectly! Onions and peppers both cooked down and seasoned well. The bread was soft yet firm enough to hold the juice from the meat and it was loaded with melted provolone. I got a foot long stretch with my cheese on one bite!! 😋 😋 I will go back again for sure! I recommend going here!
Family lunch loved this spot! Plenty of seating, clean, inviting family & dog friendly. We enjoyed a cold brew from the extensive selection and the food was really good. Ordered wings, chicken sandwich, burger and fried pickle spears. Gotta tell you everything was on point. Very casual and friendly staff they also have a vast selection of wine which we will try next time. Check them out you won’t be disappointed.
Ready to take a trip out of the city? In Salado, right off I-35 you will find so many 1850's buildings and lots of shops. Salado is an up and coming "Fredricksburg like" setup town. Very casual family friendly place. Not really a bar. Not really a tshirt/gift shop. Not really a Cafe. But just right for socializing with family and friends. Playing some cards. Go to eat casual bar food. Listen to some great music and chill. More self service than not. Food is in one building and drinks are in the other. You can order the food then walk to the seating / drinking area. They can bring the food to you or you can go get it. Very large selection of wines and beers. Folks are all so nice and helpful.
A first visit for us at the Chupacabra Kitchen. The staff was phenomenal! The best! Exceptional customer service from the moment we stepped inside until we left. They offer fantastic service here. Everyone was personable and friendly. The establishment is clean and the decor is super cool. The atmosphere is welcoming, and it was a relaxing place for dinner after a long day. It's not a large dining area, but I found it to be the perfect size. It's almost cozy and such a nice change from the crowded cities. I cannot even begin to tell you how much I enjoyed the quietness of the cozy dining area. We really loved the experience at the Chupacabra Kitchen. For starters, we ordered the fried pickles. Delicious! I can say they are some of the best I've had, and the Ranch dressing served on the side is perfect! I had the bacon cheeseburger with a side of onion rings. Their signature sauce is fantastic. The rings could have been cooked a little longer. I like my rings with a bit of crunch, and these were on the soft/soggy side, which I did not find very appetizing. My burger was pretty good, but not the best I've had. Hubby had the bacon cheeseburger with a side of French fries, and he enjoyed all of it. If you're in Salado, stop on in. The food is decent, the staff is absolutely terrific, and the establishment is a wonderful place to dine. It's just a wonderful experience and a nice change from the crowded and loud restaurants of the larger nearby towns and cities.
The food was great! Priced descent. The order was served incorrectly. When we tried to ask for our missing item, we were told they don't have any, although it is on the menu and the staff taking the order didn't say anything & charged us. They didn't have a resolve for the mistake, so that made the visit strange to pay for an order that was unavailable. The atmosphere was great. Small little place and a little confusing because it is split into two places but overall worth a trip!
I would describe Chupacabra as a place with restaurant prices, but fast food service and food. It's a beautiful little diner with a very Texan, U.S. vibe, which I love. The employees were very nice and respectful. After you order your food, you pay right away, not after you eat. This is also the time they ask you for a tip. I gave 15% figuring I'd risk it since they seemed nice. Not too much of a tip but not disrespectful. However, the most you get after the initial interaction is someone dropping your food off at the table. Though they call it out of a window, and we had to get our own food for one of the three meals we had. You also have to get your own drinks at a soda fountain. The food was good, but fast food good. You dont get plates. Our nachos came in a plastic container. The main food comes in plastic baskets. When you're done, you throw out your trash and place the basket on top. All of this is not a big deal at all, I just think the prices are a little high for what you get, and there's not really a reason to tip Since you pretty much do all the things a waiter would do. The sodas are all off brand and pure cain sugar, which I love, and it tasted amazing. However, if you prefer name brand, they have some bottled soda there as well. Overall, this is a really nice place to visit, just be ready to pay a little bit extra for the experience.
Wanted to like this place, but food was not good enough. Efficient and polite staff. Husband ordered burger medium-well, it was rare. My tater tots were tasty but cold…I mean, cooler than room temp. My monte cristo sandwich was very tasty, although greasy (I mean, no surprise, it’s a fried sandwich). The Kitchen was warm and crowded, but the Winery next door was cool and had plenty of comfy seating. Anyway, food could have been better, for sure.
The Food was good here. The shrimp and fish was fried perfectly. Little let down on the portion size of the fish. Few bites and that's about it. Sadly the menu says a generous portion of Cod I think it was more of a single portion. The salads were standard. The ranch is the good ranch we all look forward too. The Brussel sprouts were over Fried on the boarder of over cooked and burnt. Unfortunately the almost burnt flavor took over the taste where you couldn't really enjoy them as they were ment to be with their Thai sauce. The sodas here was a cute surprise and enjoyable. The staff is pretty stiff and unresponsive. Today acting like it was a chore to help out the people trying to enjoy their establishment. Not very helpful or accommodating. Over all outside of the Brussels sprouts and staff not bad, not great just good.
My boyfriend and I visited this place last night because we heard nothing but good things but that wasn’t the case for us. I will admit it was packed so getting a table was hard if you wanted to sit and relax. My boyfriend and I literally got up for 2 mins to take a pic and when we came back our table was taken and the food we sat aside to take to go was all thrown away. We spoke to the manager and her attitude was just down right disgusting and she refused to remake the food we had sat aside to go until I had to get hostile with her. I’m a very sweet person but her attitude was really unprofessional and you would think because we spent a great amount of money at her establishment plus it’s the holidays, that she would have some kind of empathy but she literally did not care. Also she had a drink in her hand while being on the clock, very unprofessional too. Will not be returning and plan to find her boss to make a report on her. Good luck working at this place
1st timer here. This place was recommended by another business Didn't know there was a difference in where you sat,(apparently, next door was way better). We sat where the kitchen service area was...terrible idea!...... 1) the lighting was dim, 2) staff's purse was left out in plain view in ( apparently no back room or employee breakroom in which to leave your belongings) 3) I got extra paper towels and a huge spider ran across the table,of which I killed 4) l was hoping the food was going to be good, but was mediocre at best( I've had better).....it was edible, jut not good. We were not impressed and will not be back.
