Nothing fancy about this place but it doesn't need it. The food speaks for itself. Delicious enchilada plate, and a delicious cheese flan. Affordable. Great service.
Seriously freaking amazeballs! It's open 24/7 too which makes it every drunks dream! The decor was very tasteful, not cluttered and over stated like a lot of other mexican restaurants. They have this salsa bar that has like 6+ sauces, plus pickled carrots and jalapenos AND grilled onions! I'm from Kansas City and was in town for my birthday, this was the first restaurant we went too. The first visit, I had the mini tacos with an assortment of meats. The Al Pastor was everything I've ever wanted, and the barbocoa was melt in your mouth delish! The whole visit was PERFECT! It was so good that we came back 3 hours later! The second visit I got the chilli rellenos and a steak quesadilla. IT WAS THE BEST QUESADILLA IVE EVER HAD! And I was married to a Mexican man for 10 years! Do yourself a favor and GO EAT!!
Food was amazing. The breakfast burrito is big enough for 2 meals or 2 people and is home made and pack filled with goodness. Great price as well. Very good food
Love, love, love this place!! Smells and taste just like California food. If you know the 24 hour California Mexican Taco shops, you know what I'm talking about! They have those delicious carrots too. I ALWAYS stop by there when I'm in San Antonio. They won't disappoint. Try the Californian Burrito (add guac. & sour cream).
Rarely after a week in San Diego, am I impressed with a Mexican restaurant in another city, let alone another state. Wow, the food was great. Ok, the setting is a strip mall, so 4 stars for the atmosphere. But it is traditional style and delicious.
I was looking for a good taco place while on vacation and i have to say im happy i came across this place the lady that took our order was super nice, the tacos were very delicious overall everything we ate was good and the salsa bar had a variety of options to choose from i definitely recommend this place, ill be visiting again when on vacation
Got great breakfast burritos and have had their lunch burritos. Recommended the California burrito for lunch. Service was instantaneous and staff were friendly. Establishment appeared clean and food was priced well for today’s economy.
Great day or late night eatery close to the freeway. Traditional Mexican with a wicked salsa bar. To go orders available at the counter or you can sit down and get table service.
Great Mexican food with friendly, and fast service. Convenient hours for late eaters.
I had a down-to-earth simple breakfast bacon-egg-potato flour Taco. So simply made and so simply tasty. The recipe was just right and not oily at all. Loved how the flour Taco was made as well. They went out of their way to ask someone who spoke English to answer my questions. We were seated and helped promptly by a server who was kind and helpful. I highly recommend this place for its cleanliness, peaceful atmosphere, great food, and reasonable prices. My combined bill for me and my Godson who got 2 fairly large breakfast tacos each plus a to-go lunch Taco, was just around 16 bucks.
Foods always great 👍. Late night 🌉. 24 HR SECRET!!! HOT SAUCE 🌶️. YUMMY 😋🤤
I have eaten at this spot for a very long time. Always great food!
I stopped by this place while on a road trip to California and I was quite surprised by the flavor of the enchiladas I ordered - even the rice and beans were well seasoned. The sauces were also tasty with a nice kick and my family let me try their carne asada and crispy tripa tacos which were also super delicious. For reference, I'm from Florida so I haven't had a lot of good Mexican food before but I do know when food is good and think it's safe to say that this place is fantastic on top of it being open 24 hours. Service was also good. The girls were nice and we had no issues.
Always a great time, food is great! The salsa bar is amazing! I personally loved the grilled onions! Super friendly staff.
Telling you right now - this place is underrated and so freaking delicious. They used to be open 24hrs a day but covid put a stop to that and now most nights they close at midnight. Still excellent food, still excellent service. When you walk in to an establishment like this and absolutely no one is speaking English, know you’re in the right place. These people know what’s up when it comes to all things tacos, enchiladas, asado, relleno, etc. They have it all and they will not disappoint. Do yourself a favor and get here NOW.
Wow, this place looks great inside. Its been awhile since I've been here and the changes have been for the better The bar upfront as.well as the salsa bar with multiple selections including pickled jalapenos and vegetables and sauteed onions and jalapenos to add to any meal. I got a veggie burrito that was massive and tasted fresh and full of flavor.
I finally found a piece of home. California style!. I am on the hunt for Nachos. And not your normal melted cheese and jalapeños kind. I'm talking about loaded Mexican style nachos. I'm googling, this place pops up on the list. Then I remembered that this Location has been advertised before on the radio on 98.5. •These nachos hit the spot. It has carne asada, guacamole, pico de Gallo, beans, and a great amount of cheese. It was enough for 2 people. The horchata paired well with their spiciest red salsa and chiles toreados. We will definitely be back for more.
Great food and reasonable prices. Staff is very friendly and fast service. Highly recomend this restaurant.
Wow! I was recommended by a friend after seeing him eat his stuffed fries with cheese, jalapeños, guacamole , etc…. It was amazing I had to go get myself an order. spent less than 10 minutes and spent under $10 a great deal. They were making my food fresh! Will definitely be back again. Not just this exact location but los balitos everywhere in San Antonio 👍
this place is so good! hubby nearly finished his cali burrito before i could snap a picture. i got the full order of chicken nachos with everything. hubby got the cali burrito. my son got the kids quesadilla. and we got carne asada fries to share. we love the salsa bar! mild to hot salsa’s!!
This is one of my favorite Mexican restaurant to goto for breakfast tacos 🌮. Not only is the food delicious but the staff that works their are friendly.
This was the first place my family and I went to eat at when we came back to Texas after being away for so long. This place did not disappoint and made all of our travel back to Texas very much worth it. The staff was also very attentive and kind.
Tried a lot of street tacos in SAT so far. This spot is not only 24 hours but better than most of the other taco spots. Went there at 4 in the morning and the meat in the tacos were HOT. Hidden gem out of all the other hyped spots here in SAT.
Visiting from out of town. Service was great and tacos were even better. As they say, everything is bigger in Texas. Portion sizes out matched their prices. Would go again.
We joined family for a a quick dinner before going to see a movie. As usual, I went with the cheese enchiladas plate and was not disappointed. My wife tried the Tripas and Carne Guisada tacos and found them to be flavorful. The rest of our family eagerly devoured their food, so I’m guessing they enjoyed it. The service was very friendly and the salsa bar has some spicy options. If you're wanting some decent Tex-Mex around Bitters and 281, consider a visit to Los Balito’s Taco Shop.
Got there around 11pm, first thing I see when I pull up out front is the guy behind the counter with a Great Big Smile!! That was so refreshing!! The wife and I both work late so we've been looking for a go to spot that's open late. Well let me tell you all THIS IS THE PLACE!!!! The customer service was amazing, the salsa bar is second to none and to top it all off the food was absolutely amazing!!!! So flavorful and cooked just right, very authentic and definitely tastes homemade. So thanks to all who served us this night and may God bless you all!!!
One of the few places in SA that's open 24hrs ...when you hit town late and need a place to wind down and get a really good meal at an affordable price, this is the place!. Staff was friendly and courteous (even at 2am). Food(machaca plate) came out piping hot, tasty and delicious! Definitely worth going back.
June 2025 Revisited Balito's for some breakfast tacos. I really enjoyed the salsa bar at this restaurant. It's extensive, they have a good choice of hot sauce (heat of the sauce noted by the number of peppers on the sign). They also have additional complementart peppers and condiments that you can pick up and take back to your table to have with your meal. When we arrived, we were quickly greeted, our drinks brought to us, and order was out and on our table within 10 minutes. I ended up getting a couple of potato and egg tacos. See the pictures. By the way, you pay at the counter when you are done. At least this is what I have done on multiple occasions to Balito's. I hope your experience is a good or better than mine. April 2025 Stopped in for a couple of tacos, potatoe and egg, and a bacon and egg. December 2024 Decided to try someplace new for us. We visited Los Balito's located near the Bitters Rd and West Ave intersection. We arrived for breakfast tacos. The parking lot is shared and plentiful for all of the stores located in the same shopping center. The dining area and tables were very clean. While the video and picture show the place near empty, just know we arrived early, and I also waited for some people to clear out. I ordered a migas taco and bacon, potatoe, and egg taco. My guest ordered a potato, bean, and egg taco. The tacos were very good in size, portion, and taste. There is a salsa bar where you can choose which salsa and spicy level you want to add to your food. The assessment of "heat" seemed to be accurate. We paid at the counter and also noticed they have lunch specials for a reasonable price. I expected we'll be back to try one of their dishes. I've included some pictures for your review. I hope that if you decide to visit, your experience is as good as mine.
When walking into, we immediately noticed how clean and bright the restaurant was. For dine in, we were encouraged to find our own seat. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. The food was cooked to order, and was fresh & hot. It was absolutely delicious. We will definitely be returning!
Always come here forever!!! Lol this place has the best Cali-style burritos. Try the steak a la Mexicana burritos. This is Mexican comfort food to the max. One of my favorite parts is the salsa bar! This is a great date idea. The tripas are also good because they make them crunchy. Another plus is that it's open 24/7 😫😁

Good authentic Mexican food. Staff is always nice and they have a salsa bar! Love the ambiance.
Nice place. Need to add queso to the menu.
The prices are pretty good here, and the online ordering system through ChowNow is smooth and effective. I love that they are 24/7. The first 2 times I went the food was exceptional. The third time it was just okay. I recommend the barbacoa taco, but I don’t recommend the bacon & egg taco.
Really good food. Beef fajita meat is consistently over cooked and tough. Chicken is always tender and delicious.
I only give the food 4 stars because I have only tried one thing. I got the carnitas plate. I opted for corn tortillas. Everything tasted great and authentic. There's a salsa bar with several kinds. If you want it for your chips or whatever else just go up and get what you want. I out he green on my carnitas. I like the atmosphere. It's family-comfortable. The waitresses were very nice and very attentive. I am going back. It's a solid place. She told me the orice for carnitas, a pepsi and arroz con leche and I thought she said $30.95. Inwas thinking that was way steep but when i went to put the tip she said $13.95. Much more like it! I recommend Los Balitos and bring your family and appetite. They give you enough food.
Went for a late lunch/early dinner. We ordered a chimichanga, enchiladas, and a California burrito. I was surprised at how big the chimichanga was, couldn't quite finish everything on my plate with the size of it. There was a good variety of salsas and some grilled onions. The restroom looked and smelled clean. I would recommend trying this place, just know the portions are huge.
This spot is great some days and just ok others. We love the salsa bar because we don’t have to wait on the server to get those for you (just the chips). Breakfast is usually great but it was slight soggy today and the chips were a little stale. The coffee, asada and potatoes were tasty during today’s visit. It’s an awesome place for late night tacos but nothing out of this world for brunch!

I was attempting to get some lunch for my wife and I while she was at work today. She had requested for some puffy tacos so I googled places near me and this particular restaurant came up. I went in and attempted to order food for her only to be advised that they do not have or offer any puffy tacos as they are from California and they do not have that option available here. So I attempted to modify the order to hard shell picadillo taco plates and was again advised that they don't have Picadillo tacos either as they are from California and don't have these on their menu!!😒 I was advised to potentially try a Mexican restaurant around the corner to secure my order and after conveying this info the waitress appeared that she was not interested at all in attempting to assist me any further!!. 😒 I abruptly left and Googled out other locations that had the ability to secure my request for my wife. I ended up going to Chachos and had not been there in quite a while but oh my, what a pleasant surprise!! I was able to successfully not only order the puffy tacos but also the picadillo taco plates. 🤗 And let me tell you now these plates were absolutely fantastic and everything and more of what we were looking for today. All I can go on to say is Los Balitos this is San Antonio not California, and it would be best served & most helpful and in your best interest to serve the people of San Antonio with Mexican food that infamous to San Antonio Customers. Especially, with so many options available here in San Antonio and potential customers who may want to patronize your establishment in the future just saying!!!
Food is good. One of the few places to get a California burrito outside of California. Service is okay. Language barrier with the staff. A lot of empty space inside.
I've never had bacon so hard that it stabbed the roof of my mouth but here I am checking off that box. Potatoes and beans were bland and eggs over cooked. Tortillas were not homemade. The salsa bar was pretty nice and Aquas frescas were really good too. (Only saving grace) Maybe lunch is better.
To go order. Cashier was a little rude. Tortillas were not fully cooked.
The food is amazing honestly 10 out of 10 across-the-board but the restaurant smells like a porter potty when I walk in there it makes my stomach turn. Makes me lose my appetite, but then you get over it in 10 minutes. Other than that, I have no other complaints please fix your sewage system.
Serviceable tacos and a salsa bar make this a good takeout option when craving tacos. The meats are generally well seasoned and cooked but the corn tortillas are always a disappointment. One of the few places where sticking to flour might be a better option. Be careful of the chili pequin salsa. It's tasty but not for the uninitiated!
Ive seen the name around and was curious about the food. The salsa bar was cool, the Tripa taco was great. It came with onions cilantro and guacamole. Buuut :/ there was little to no flavor in the Quesabirrias surprisingly. 2/2 gave it a second shot ordering tacos I'd normally get anywhere else and i liked those more. Despite the meat in the carne and cheese tasting a bit off the hot sauce helped level that out. The price wasnt bad for what all i recieved but there was an odor from the kitchen as i approached from the front doors and the restroom did not smell good. Being that the walls were stained and faucet was very loose i can only imagine the condition of what's behind the kitchen door.
The tortas - they are served on very fresh and soft bread. I had the adobada torta and it was good. The pork was tender (not chewy) and had a decent amount of seasoning to it, but it could have stood more. The Mar y Tierra burrito is good - it has a little bit of everything - shrimp, steak, cheese, rice and salsa. The steak was tender and tasty. The coolest thing about this place is their salsa bar. LOTS of choices - see attached pic. Bottom line is that it's good, but not "drive out of your neighborhood good."
I ordered a combination plate with chicken and steak and the cook forgot my chicken. He added the chicken but it was just a few pieces.
We went in for brunch. Not many customers. We ordered, it didnt take TOOO long until SOME of the orders came out. My husband, our boy , our youngest and myself recieved our meals, simple food, 2 plates, and two with tacos, then more people came in, and we waited, more came and were served again, and we waited. We didnt want to eat until all of us had our food, but our other little girl didnt have hers, simple 2 bacon and egg tacos,, ALL of the tables around us that came in after us, ordered and all had already received their meals, NOTHING for our girl. We repeatedly asked about it, and we kept getting, "Im sorry, it'll be out in a minute", and "I'll check why its not out", etc., more than once. We waited for her food, and those around us were already done with their meals and were leaving!!! Waiting for 2 simple tacos!! Nobody said ,let me take those off of your bill because they were so late and she had to wait so long to eat, or let me give you a discount, NOTHING. Just sat the plate in front of her said,"sorry bout that", and walked away. Our food had gotten cold waiting, but we were tired of dealing with them at this restaurant. That was the only Mexican restaurant around, not many restaurants were close either, and the kids were hungry. It was also way too pricey for what the food and atmosphere were. I think maybe its because its across the street from an Attoneys office, not sure. We won't return there. *Side note, they did have some pretty good salsa in their salsa bar.
I got mini asada tacos and they didn’t really have a taste , the tortillas were a little dry. I wanted quesabirrias but $5 for one taco is craaazy.
Just left this place, the prices on the menu are different than what they charge. My husband and I asked Glenda to make sure to put the guac on the side because I'm HIGHLY ALLERGIC to avocados but my husband still eats them. She not only gave us EXTRA guac (and charged us for it) but still left the guac on the food, gave us the wrong food, and charged us extra. The total of our meal according to the menu would've been 21 yet they charged us 31. When they were approached about the price there was "nothing they could do about it" and they were all extremely rude. If Glenda didn't know english we gladly would've spoken to her in spanish but she repeated our order to us clearly and multiple times. The breakfast tacos at taco cabana are way better, save yourself the money. The nachos are good and filling, the horchata is also good but can easily be copied and actually perfected at home. Save yourself $3, the "mexican coke" is ONLY $1 coke that can be bought at target. Overall, this place has lost its flair 🤷🏻♀️
I love Los balitos taco shops in San Antonio but this location needs better staff, all of the workers wear on their phones and I had to wait for them to notice me to be able to order my take out food, I usually get their grilled onions at the salsa bar but there was hardly any left with tiny pieces of meat mixed in. Then I go and ask for a paper bag and three workers on their phones don't know when someone walks up to the counter. This location is closest to me but if I want Los balitos delicious carne asada fries I will have to go to another location. Edit: just got home and I'm mad about the amount of food they gave me, every other location gives way more , and they gave me stale fries that obviously weren't fresh, avoid this location. I payed $7 for this..
Came to the spot because my friend said they wanted Mexican food and it was super late at night we had just got out of a concert. Was hoping for the best but did not really get that from this place food was just okay to be honest maybe I needed to try something different I got crispy tacos and I explained to her how I wanted one chicken and two beef and I got all of them chicken so that kind of sucked but also I asked for a unsweet tea and a water and only got my unsweet tea. Food was just okay. Parking was good restrooms were fairly clean overall it was cheap eats but also could taste better.
Workers eat while taking orders at the cash register. The lobby is very dirty, they don't clean baby chairs or remove /cover salsa bar while sweeping near it. Constantly pulling up pants/touching face. The food was very dry, particularly the carnitas burrito.

Terrible place to eat . The food is nasty it's over cooked or burnt. They use red sauce instead of brown gravy. Bad service
Dropped in for a Taco Fix,I left still needing a Taco Fix! Carnitas dry bland! Yesterdays or out of a Box! Leguna tacos tender just bland flavor. I would comment on service but.. No Service No Comment I think they are competing with Taco Cabana who can be the….. So Sad because at 1 Time!
Although the food was great the service was lacking due to the language barrier with a few of our table mates. We tried our best to communicate with our server. When she noticed a lot of us didn't speak spanish properly she ignored our table a bit and kept serving other people. When ordering our drinks she brought a random drink and said nothing to us. When we tried to explain to her we didn't order the drink. She just walked away and charged us the drink. The drink she gave us was filled with lactose we tried to mention to the person about it. Due to our friend being lactose intolerant . She gave us a weird look and walked away. Helping other tables and giving them refills on their drinks. We flagged her over a few times to get refills and she walked past us. We tried flagging our server to refill our chips instead we had to ask another server for chips. When I tried to ask my server once more. I was ignored and had to go up to the cashier and ask for an extra tortilla for my food. Over all the food was amazing but the service was lousy and very disappointing for such great food. I feel bad for leaving such a bad review but it's not fair for my friends and I to be disrespected for us not speaking Spanish well enough or at all.
Food is decent, however, service is terrible. I walked in for a take out. I asked the lady how long it will take she said 5-10 minutes. I ordered at 7:42 AM. 7:52 nothing. 7:58, I asked where my order is, she asked the guy in the kitchen who could barely hear her because of the music BLASTING in the back. He was barely getting it ready. I walked out of there with no food and less money.
The worst Mexican food place ever. They put half a head of lettuce on top of the enchiladas and in the taco salad. The beef has so much gristle in it that you're still hungry after eating.
These folks gave me (2) mini taco plates with old / over cooked meat. The tortillas are all super dry. Worse part is they had NO customers. So I don't know the reason for this. Ive had there burritos before and they were nothing like this. Guess they warmed up last yesterday's meat. Not sure if the picture does it any justice but we literally just threw the plates away not even worth driving back up there. Thanks for taking my money.
They messed up my order 2x! I'm not going back a 3rd. First, I ordered Bacon, Potato, and Cheese tacos and they gave me Been and Bacon tacos. I went back to ask for them to correct it and they gave me burnt bacon and potato tacos. I had added to this order A la Mexicana with cheese, got to my location to eat and it was only a ton of cheese and Pico de Gallo. I'm not understanding how you can repeat an order back to me and give them the paper with the order on it and it still comes out wrong. I won't be going back here. And I wish that I could take the tip that I gave when I paid back.
Good Food BUT... My chimichanga was great but my stomach turned & I was turned off when a lady started sweeping the floor right next to my table. You could see all the dirt. This was at 1:45pm last Friday. I nicely asked her not to do that, that it was ruining my meal. She moved to another area which was also full of diners and continued sweeping. In 5 minutes she was back with a mop and large mop bucket filled with an especially strong and obnoxiously noxious-smelling disinfectant, then she proceeded to mop all around my table. Good grief! I then got the check and left. I get cleanliness but don't sweep and mop the floor at peak times when customers are trying to eat. It is really extremely disgusting. P. S. Service was very slow, unpleasant & unfriendly.
Nope. This isn't it. Over priced considering that it's mexican food in San Antonio. They're also very stingy with their ingredients. $15.00 for Carne Asada Fries but where the hell is the cheese?! Los Balitos is lame & I want my $30 back. Also, responding to the owners reply down below. I'm serious I want a refund.
This restaurant isn’t the worst I’ve had but it isn’t exactly Californian Mexican food. It’s a 3rd cousin, but it won’t curb your cravings if you’re used to albertos. I gave it one star for trying though. The rolled tacos were fried way too long and the California burrito tortilla was a little stiff. If you’ve had a true California burrito you know the tortilla is supposed to be soft. Won’t waste money here again.
Make sure you ask how much things are. They’ll ring you up prices different than what’s on the menu. I ordered the quesadilla w/guac labeled as $5.52. I also ordered a crispy taco. I got my bill and the quesadilla was $9.99 and there was an additional $1.50 charge for the guac that was supposed to come with the quesadilla. They rang it up as if I ordered it for the taco. Was not the case at all. When I pointed it out they didn’t know what I was saying at all. Lol riiiiight. Terrible.
I love the Los Balito’s near Alamo Ranch. The service and the food there is consistently great!! I thought I’d try the Bitters Road location. What a sad disappointment! I came here today at 7:30pm it was not very crowded I ordered two tacos. After a somewhat long wait my food finally arrived. The tacos looked good. Then upon taking a bite I realized the tortilla was not even warm!! Really!!?? Cold tortillas!!! EPIC FAIL!!!! So you guys get one star. You in the kitchen...step it up!!!
I come on to pick up a to go order i notice that it’s only 1 order when I order 2 orders the lady at the counter wanted to argue an tell me no when I’m showing her my email receipt you guys lost a customer very rude customer service
Went to buy some tacos at last night and this place is always good I’ve been going to eat there lot of times and this surprised me JESUS CHRIST this disgusted me so bad Found hair on my food like about 4 inches long 🤮
Didn't greet us, we sat down and they ignored us for like 10 minutes, and the place was pretty empty. Terrible service, waiter had an attitude from the get go. We weren't rude to the server despite the attitude, food was alright but the experience really ruined it for me. Idk about other locations but this one is always like this.
Walked in to try the food, left with nothing. Walked in, was not greeted, was not acknowledged, whenever I stood at the front to try and order, the server looked at me and never said a word. She actually went on to check out another guest walked right past me and asked another guest if he was okay and never asked me if I needed anything. Walked out feeling... hungry
This was a good stop. Austin doesn’t have much that compared. My wife loved the burritos. This last time, the fajitas in my nachos and burritos were all fat and tendons. In the carnitas burritos, I found what looked like a toothpick. DONE with this place. I spent well over $60, with my sit down order and burritos to go. Not sure what the QC is (if it exists) but this is unacceptable. I damn near choked on that whatever this thing is in the photo. Not sure what my review will do, but enter this place with caution. 6 yrs ago, this was a treat when we were inSA. Management changed? I don’t know. Not another dollar will be spent at this place or any others. If SA can’t do Mexican or TexMex right, what’s the point??
I came in today (September 25th at 5:59 AM) to wait for my food order and asked for chips while I waited. To my surprise, I was told they cost $3. I explained that it didn’t make sense since most Mexican restaurants typically offer chips complimentary that ive come for years & never heard of this, especially for waiting guests. The staff told me it was due to a new manager policy. I let them know to ignore it and decided not to order the chips since my food was only almost done. After the back-and-forth conversation, they then offered me the chips, but at that point, the experience had already ruined my appetite.
