Opinions de Bangkok Spices Thai Restaurant San Diego
Tiny local Thai restaurant with very reasonable prices, well cooked food, and great flavors. Was able to get a cold singha beer in a frosted glass for $5. Got the Bangkok BBQ chicken with spice level 5 (not even remotely spicy). Comes with white or brown rice and vegetables. It was delicious and I will definitely buy again. Additional sauces are available at the table so you can increase the spice as desired. Service was speedy and we were in and out of there in an hour. Whole meal was reasonably priced with good portions at $22 (including beer). Went on a Thursday night and there only 1-2 other groups there, so if needed parking was readily available in the few spots out front. Kind of quirky travel/ hippie/ retrogamer decor with a bunch of tchotchkes and local North Park stuff (like overload skateboard on the wall), overall pretty cool.
Absolutely delicious and fresh food! Restaurant is clean and decorated nicely, with a small parking lot out front. Service is excellent. Beer, wine and sake are on the menu. We got tom yum, pad Thai and cashew nut. Ate it all up except for the pad Thai, which was a VERY generous portion
We were just visiting San Diego from Texas and I’ve got to say, this was far better from the Thai restaurants we have nearby. The atmosphere was homey and cozy. Our waiter was really nice and patient, overall very good service. The food was amazing. We ordered satay chicken for an appetizer which was delicious. We got 4 entrees spicy fried rice,Thai fried rice, pineapple fried rice and drunken noodles which were all really good. This restaurant was beyond our expectations! All in all, the whole experience was a pleasure!!
Excellent spot. Nice family runs and operates the restaurant. Definitely try the “Thai Beef Jerky” it was a sleeper! It’s also quiet and quaint inside. We were there around 5pm and we were the only table. Give it a try.
Probably the best Thai food in the area. I've tried many of the Thai restaurants in North Park, Hillcrest, city heights and South Park but this one takes the cake. The service is amazing every time, the food consistently is excellent and prices are reasonable. They are open till later at night so it's a good option for late dinner. I would recommend the papaya salad, green curry, spicy salmon and spicy noodles. When you order take out the food will usually be a little more spicy than when you dine in, so adjust the level accordingly.
Stopped by for dinner last Friday. The restaurant is under the new ownership. They have several new dishes that taste so delicious. We had Spicy Fried Catfish fillet, Tom Yum Noodles, Tom Yum Soup, Spicy squid Salad and beef Jerky. Food is freshly made and served right away. Parking is limited in this area.
Place was delicious, I recommend going , as soon as I saw the grandma I knew it was going to be great , I highly recommend.
I've been going to Bangkok Spices for almost 20 years since it was located on El Cajon Blvd in the old Pizza Hut. 😂 I love their food and think their prices are great.
We stumbled on this spot while looking for Thai food online, and I’m so glad we gave it a try. The menu is extensive, the prices are fair, and the food is truly outstanding. It might not catch your eye from the street, but inside it has a cozy, welcoming atmosphere. They also offer takeout and catering, which is a nice bonus. I’m already thinking about using them the next time I have a party. I’ll definitely be back.
I picked up food from here for the first time tonight. Cashier was friendly & informative. Cute little restaurant. Pad See Ew was probably the best I’ve had in San Diego- SO many veggies (which was what I was craving). My husband gave the Bangkok Spice Noodles a 10. Headsup: if you don’t specify, food is at a 0 spice level (at least the dishes I ordered) I’m definitely coming back to see if they do as good a job on their Pad Woon Sen. Happy customer!
All of the other Thai food places were closed and we stumbled upon this place. The food was so yummy and the service was very quick. Thank you!!
We have ordered takeout from here a couple times a month since we moved in up the street from Bangkok Spices almost 7 years ago but I’ve never written it a review! We have tried many other Thai restaurants in the SD area and always regret wasting a precious takeout meal on other places. The flavors, price, and portions are unmatched! We’ve tried a lot of dishes from here, but our regular order is delicious veggie green curry and shrimp red curry. They’ve never gotten our order wrong and it’s always hot and ready at pickup time.
I walked over thinking that thai food was never a bad idea and I was more than right. Ordered shrimp and spicy noodles at a 7/10 spicy. No stranger to spice so 7 was a kick but easily enjoyable. And they are FAST.
Their lunch special is such a good deal. Got this big plate that comes with a salad, fried rolls and a small tom yum soup for less than $18. It's my 2nd time coming here and they don't dissapoint. I highly recommend this place!
From the very first bite, I felt like I was right back on the streets of Bangkok! This restaurant is an absolute gem! Every dish bursts with the kind of bold, vibrant flavors you only find in authentic Thai cooking. The aromas of lemongrass, chili, and coconut hit the moment you walk in, and from there, it’s pure magic. I tried the Pad See Ew, and Khao Soi, (Only found in northern Thailand) and each one was spot on — perfectly balanced between spicy, tangy, and fragrant. You can tell the chefs know what they’re doing and cook straight from the heart. Can’t wait to come back — khob khun ka! 🇹🇭❤️
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ all the way—for flavor, price, vibe, decor, and hospitality. From the mouthwatering soup, 🤤 curry to the refreshing 🧋 Thai tea, everything was perfect. I’ll definitely be coming back! 🙌✨
Good noodles and decent amount of food for a relatively cheap price with quick service - I’ll definitely go back. I got spicy noodle and my partner got Bangkok spices noodle - honestly almost identical with slightly different taste in the sauce, but both were yummy. They ask what spice level 1-10 you want and I got a 6, but it wasn’t very spicy. They had extra chili oil, sriracha, etc. for the table if you ask though
Highly recommend!! I got the pad see ew and the Panang curry and both were so flavorful and only $30 all together! The noodles were cooked perfectly and the curry was nice and spicy - I got it at a 7 spice and it was great! Really good Thai food.
A must-try Thai dinner spot in North Park, San Diego. Authentic flavors, vibrant atmosphere, and dishes that will leave you craving more. We tried the green curry, drunken noodles, and BBQ salmon, they were all so delicious. The service was great, and the place felt cozy and homey. Definitely worth a try and Perfect for a flavorful night out. Just remember the parking is not easy.
First time back after a couple years and the food still tastes the same. The place still looks the same. Staff are still friendly and service is fast. We like ordering their fried rice dishes and noodles when we go. There are a couple parking spots available in the front. We parked at a public parking lot a few blocks away on the same street and the walk was very pleasant, with more places to see and try next time when in NP. Spicy is SPICY here, if you wish..but not necessary.
I came here for some late night Thai food. The whole experience eating here for the first time was really good. The service is great. I felt very welcome when I came here. The food was really amazing and flavorful. I like the style of the Thai house. It makes it feel homey. I would be coming back again for sure.
Went to this restaurant for the first time 7/26/19 and went back a week later, that's how much we liked it! The food is delicious & the customer service was excellent. The first time we got the Tom Yum soup, fried rice, Pad Thai, mixed appetizer, and red curry. So good! Plus the Thai coffee, yum!
Our new go to Thai restaurant! For this review: 1. We ordered Drunken Noodles (Pork, spice level 4) and Pad Thai (Pork, spice level 4) 2. We dined inside the restaurant. Portion sizes for both entrees were great, pad Thai had enough for two meals (we took home the second half), drunken noodles were finished in one sitting (I was very hungry). Both dishes had excellent ratio of noodles/meat/veggies. Flavor was fabulous for both entrees. The only thing we said repeatedly during our meal was "wow this is SO GOOD"! Looking at past reviews someone said this was the "best drunken noodle in San Diego" and I have to agree. Those noodles were delicious. Inside the restaurant: it's a house made into a restaurant, which is cool. Service was quick and our server was kind. Parking in north park is always going to be a few more minutes than a walk, so be prepared for that. We parked a 5 minute walk from the restaurant easily on a Friday at 6pm. Location within North Park is great, walking distance from bookstores, browsing stores, coffee shops, other restaurants. I can picture myself spending a day in north park and ending up here for dinner. Go here! | highly recommend and will be back.
Lived within a < 10 min walk for a year and somehow never went!! Best Thai I’ve had in North Park and cant wait to go back to try more. The outside is unassuming, which is honestly I think what kept me from noticing or being super intrigued by the place. The inside is so cute and beat my expectations. The service is so kind, helpful, and attentive. The food was literally so good - super super fresh, not super greasy/oily/heavy, and lots of great flavors and textures. I think this is the best edamame I’ve ever had - it comes with some sort of sauce that blew my mind. I got the Pad Woon Sen and my fiancé got the thai friend rice. I wish mine had maybe more salt or some sauce, but it was fabulous nonetheless. The thai fried rice was just great.
Very tasty, good portions and excellent customer service. Good ambience. I will be back! Second time now, came for lunch this time. They have yummy lunch specials! Very reasonable prices. This is my favorite Thai restaurant in San Diego now!
IF I COULD GIVE THIS PLACE 1mil stars i would !!! After a long night out my bestie and we we’re looking for a place to sit down and eat when we stumbled upon this place which happened to be open until midnight 🥰her and i are SERIOUS about our food so we usually go to the same spots but since were not from the area we had no other option besides fast food 😩 as soon as we saw the restaurant photos it was a GO ! As soon as we walked in the place GOOD VIBES ! The place was so at home !! The waiter was soo kind gave us plenty of time but of course we already knew what we wanted ! This waiter came out with the most refreshing water ive ever seen 🥰 for appetizers we ordered our favorite TOFU SPRING ROLL 💗i ordered the tofu yellow curry and she ordered red tofu curry . When we took that first bite WHEW CHILD the levels of dopamine i experienced in that moment is unmatchable THAT CURRY WAS SO DAMN GOOD 🤤🤤 only bad thing about this restaurant is that i live an hour and a half away from there. Considering that i would drive out there JUST to eat at this restaurant 1000000/10 THANK YOUUUU 💗
Greeted by amazing staff, only one person served us but was quick and kept track of me taking my order, I asked for no carrots on my meal so they remembered to not put any carrots in the complementary soup given before our meal. Amazing food, amazing people. Very welcoming, wonderful hospitality. I’d recommend to anyone. Worth the price too!
Best Thai food I have had in a very long time. My husband is not easily impressed and enjoyed it very much. Also the hospitality is top notch!
Visited Bangkok Spices Thai as it was highly recommended by my sister. We made a phone order and our food was ready within 20-25 minutes. The workers were extremely friendly and wished us a nice stay in San Diego! The inside of the shop was very fun and had a bunch of items from different countries it seemed. I got a pad thai, pad see ew and spicy fried rice! All items were great and within a reasonable price.

We discovered this restaurant pre-pandemic. Im glad it made it through. We have a calm dinner. Place was not busy during our visit. Guess thats the advantage of going out on a weekday night, with foggy weather. We enjoyed our brisket pho. Meat slices were thick, wish they were tender and the broth was good, might need to be less salt. Tofu pad thai was good, i opt for mild spice 4/10, in case my toddler wants to try it. Me and my husband loved the Ka Na Moo Krob. We don't know whats it in the water other than the lemon, but it taste good. We appreciate being given big bottles if water instead of waiting for someone to refill. And thank you for keeping the washroom clean.

Classic simple mom&pop restaurant second Thai grub. No frills or thrills. But open much later than any other Thai restaurant within miles. If you’re craving Thai food and it’s past 9pm, then this isn’t a bad choice - even though it may be the only choice! But then the food is delicious and authentic, true to form. So this is one of those rare instances where your only option is actually the best option. The only reason one might choose to go to another spot would be ambiance. Period. Very few can match it for flavor. Bon appetit!
I haven't been to Bangkok Spices Thai in a number of years so my return trip was good. For me and my friend God different types of Curry and overall it was good.
The pad thai is good and drunken noodles are great here. I recently tried the TumYum soup for the first time and was disappointed to find out it’s literally broth, a few pieces of chicken and a few pieces of mushroom, no veggies no nothing! I wish I would’ve known their tumyum soup has no veggies.
This food is very sugary, which is not authentic. Atmosphere has radio and advertisements running in the background.
Service was excellent. Too much spice—no wonder the name of the restaurant includes “spices.” I ordered the beef salad, which was very delicious. The flavor was strong but tasty. The Bangkok Spices Noodles looked great, but they were too sweet and sour, and there was too much sauce, which made the dish too watery. Too much MSG, i drank all the water by myself. Not authentic, but worth a try if you’re new to Thai food.

Ordered takeout here because this place has 4.5 stars and good reviews Food was labeled as spicy on the menu. Not a single item we ordered had any spice. Pad Thai was sweet and sugar-y. Bangkok chicken was salty and the sauces for dipping felt like someone spilt seasonings in them in error. The wings were good but not spicy. Food overall was not enjoyable
Yuck! Burnt egg rolls, Tom yum soup consisted of mushrooms and broth only, so I ordered a cup of Wonton soup because it said it had veggies. The only veg was large leeks, the wontons were chewy and I couldn’t eat it even spiced up. The Massaman curry was an unappetizing pile of goopy, sweetened slop. Disappointed! On top of it all, their sign said Lunch specials until 3, we arrived at 2:30 and the server said we couldn’t do a lunch special.
Says open until 12am. Uber had no clue how to pickup as they closed before 11. Why not just list the correct hours??
I work from home and every once in a while I like treating myself to a new cuisine. I decided to order from Bangkok Spices Thai Restaurant. This place has good reviews and I’m all about spices/spicy food. I ordered enough food to last me for a few meals throughout the week. I ordered the pork drunken noodles (flavorless), chicken spicy fried rice (BLAND & SOGGY), spicy beef noodle (picture shows all), Thai Caribou Hot wings(picture included), these wings were without a doubt last night’s leftovers! They were dry, over fried, and HARD. Their Thai Orange Chicken (MUSHY/NO FLAVOR). Who knows maybe it’s a different experience in house, either way I will not spend my hard earned money here. I’ll stick to my favorite place for ordering chicken soft noodles, chicken, pork fried rice, lemon chicken and so on…. It’s not a Thai restaurant but it’s a mouth watering Asian cuisine with big portions and unbelievable flavor! Imperial Panda in Chula Vista :-)
We ordered the pad Thai, green curry and eggplant dish. The only decent dish was the green curry. Everything else was extremely sweet. The pad Thai was the strangest I have ever had. It is ORANGE in color and tasted sweet and fishy even though we didn’t order it with seafood. I took one bite and couldn’t complete it. The eggplant dish was so oily. You can get much better Thai food at the food court!!! In addition, the soap is super watered down. I asked the server to add soap and he did not respond. Please do yourself a favor and do not dine here. Take your hard earned money somewhere else. At this point, we are just hoping we don’t get sick.
Update as of 11/19/22: I went back to Bangkok Spices again after a few months. I was told that they changed owners but it’s the same family, the chef is still the same chef from before. Well, let me tell you, it’s either they lied to me or that same chef just decided to change the recipes for his food, in a bad way. Pad Thai had an orange color vs. the light brown color from before, it had no flavor, and definitely didn’t not taste the same. The Eggplant basil dish had soooo much oil, every bite of that dish tasted nothing but oil. The white rice tasted old. On the contrary, the tomyum soup was very salty. I wish they put some of the salt from the soup to the pad Thai so they would be well balanced lol. Overall, big disappointment from a regular customer. I was skeptical about the “new owner but same chef” statement, the food I ordered today was a confirmation that food isn’t the same anymore. Definitely won’t be back. Such a bummer that I have to go find a good Thai restaurant in SD again. :( This place is a hidden gem. It’s the true definition of a Mom and Pop shop. Food has been consistently good, very flavorful and well seasoned. Generous portions too. Service can be a bit slow at times but it’s tolerable. The only complaint is they don’t always open on the hours that they post. There was a few times I drove there to dine in only to find out that they were closed when they were supposed to be opened :( I kept forgetting to call ahead to make sure they were opened before heading there. Now I will remember to do so lol.
