Opinions de Fort Oak San Diego
Visited San Diego on a business trip. So glad we found this restaurant. One of the best, well managed restaurants in every aspect. The food was beyond amazing. Super fresh ingredients. Drinks are superb. Our waiter was professional and super helpful with suggestions. A must when you are in the area.
Can't beat $1 oysters on Monday for happy hour! Christina and Diana were wonderful to us ❤️ the pork chop was delicious. Can't wait to eat there again soon
Had reservations for 7pm ignored by the hostess; only ones in the place. Sat at the bar instead, luckily the Bartenders had better customer service skills. The food was excellent so were the drinks.
As always, our dinner was amazing. We brought friends who had never been and they loved it! Our waiter, Johnny, made the night so much fun. He was sweet and funny, and knew everything about each item on the menu. We will ask for him every time we go! 💚
Very cool experience with a dog friendly patio. Tons of heaters, we couldn't tell it was cold that night and that was after asking them to turn the heaters down! Strongly recommend you make a reservation. They had a very good drink menu. Not a lot of beer options but the focus is definitely on cocktails. The cocktails were all excellent. The food was superb. The quality matches the price for sure. The portions are generous, you won't go away hungry. Once again, all the food we ordered was excellent. Dessert is the only section without glowing praise. While the desserts were still good, they didn't feel as premium as the rest of the menu. The cookies and cream beignets tasted like deep fried Oreos, and the serving of ice cream was a little small. Skip dessert and get another cocktail instead.
Modern setting. Menu is has many unique shareable plates and the entrees have limited selections but more than enough choices for everyone! Tonight we celebrate our daughter in law's birthday. We try this place for the first time. Professional, friendly service. Prices are at the high ends. We ordered the smaller seafood tower and it was good enough for 5 of us adults. The wood grilled oysters and charred caulilini are great for sharing. Very tasty! For the entrees, we had the branzino, this is the whole fish but most bones were removed. The salmon was great and we also shared the 40 days aged ribeye steak and it was just fantastic! Drinks were also very unique and very good! Great place for a celebration!
Came here yesterday with a party of 4 for dinner and had a fantastic time and the food and service were top-notch. Everything the whole party ate was delicious and the wait staff was amazing and literally watching each table like hawks and would come by to remove plates and replenish our wine glasses 🍷. The cocktails we tried were perfectly balanced and delicious, nothing was too sweet. I will definitely be back to try more of the entrees and appetizers. The restaurant itself is beautifully designed and the furniture is great and comfortable inside the restaurant. Our party had a nice wooden table with rounded edges. You can see the Ford logos adorning the outside walls of the restaurant because it used to be a dealership.
Fort Oak absolutely crushed it. The drinks? Dangerous in the best way. The lamb kefta and pork chop were the stars of the show - flavor bombs that we’re still thinking about - but let’s be real, everything we ate was ridiculously good. The vibe is dialed, the service is on point, and we left full and very, very happy. Already plotting our return.
Went for an early dinner before things were too busy and really enjoyed the food and cocktails. Highly recommend. - Ahi tartare 5/5, some of the best I’ve had; capers, zest, oyster mayonnaise, egg yolk built impressive flavor - Roasted carrots 5/5, another thoughtful and delicious plate - Roasted caulilini 5/5, well executed and the char, sauce were excellent - New York strip 4.5/5, the cut could’ve been better and cooking was a bit uneven but it was overall a good entree. Yams and chanterelles were nice but I always love some sort of potato element with steak - Camaro and Durango cocktails 5/5 - Whisky sour 4/5, good cocktail but felt over price at $25 compared to other cocktails around $17
Had an early New Years Even dinner here. Had drinks before in their pop up bar “Snowed In” it was like being in a snow globe. Drinks were amazing and festive themed. Next we ate dinner inside at the Chef’s Table. Food was absolutely amazing, and we had several courses, ending with the Prime Rib which was cooked to perfection. Will definitely be back!
Great environment. Amazing server (Johnny E). The chef and the staff went above and beyond to accommodate our dietary restrictions (vegan, no nuts, no seeds), and the resulting meal was spectacular. The meat eaters in our party also loved the meal too. TY!!

4.55 stars from me. Fort & Oak is modern, tastefully contained with an open and indoor blended space which makes it very COVID safe, even now, and not overly loud although it can be quite crowded. Service is plentiful if not always convivial- in that the staff are abundant and skillful. They’re there to get the job done and they do it well. The menu has some stars and you can zip in and out for <$50 a person, but not if you want the more elaborate dishes which can easily tip the scales at $100+ per plate. I was going to dock a star for the very high price tags and forgettably plain decor, metal chairs outdoors, and simplicity to the overall service — but then I tasted the food. And the food absent its price is certainly 5/5 stars. The flavors among the raw fish appetizers were strange in a good way, and combined tastes you wouldn’t think work well together - but they do. The cavatelli, the fried quail, and the bread are all super stars of taste and serious power houses of savory/salty profiles that deserve to be eaten. Really surprisingly excellent. The cheesecake was likewise texturally perfect and petite but delicious. You’re in the $60-120 per person range to stuff yourself here, but I would say you wouldn’t be disappointed. Patio features many heaters to keep warm if it’s chilly. The Tap Water is filtered too. Great choice since it’s otherwise quite bad. Worth a visit if you’re in the area!

The food was amazing! Everything was really good. Loved the salad, ribeye, chicken pate, goat milk pasta, etc. The shrimp was overcooked. Come here with a group so you can try a bunch of stuff. The drinks were good but a little slow to get them. Definitely worth coming back again!
Exceptional food & atmosphere at Fort Oak. Tuna ahi tartare, lamb kofkas and cavatelli pasta were all 🔥🔥! The service was a bit slow, but i would come back because of the food.
The food was fantastic, each dish was beautifully plated. My only complaint was the drinks were VERY slow. This probably saved us a lot of money, but it was annoying at the moment.
Fort Oak delivers an exceptional dining experience from start to finish. The level of care, precision, and attention to detail is evident in every aspect of the evening — from the service to the presentation to the food itself. The menu is thoughtful and beautifully executed, with each dish feeling intentional and balanced. If possible, I highly recommend sitting at the Chef’s counter — watching the team bring each dish to life is an experience in itself. The ribeye with bone marrow was a standout, perfectly prepared and full of flavor, and every course that followed upheld that same high standard. It’s clear the kitchen takes immense pride not just in technique, but in consistency and quality. What truly elevates Fort Oak, however, is the hospitality. The service is seamless, professional, and genuinely warm — attentive without ever feeling intrusive. Much of that is a reflection of Diana’s leadership as General Manager. Her attention to detail, professionalism, and commitment to guest experience clearly set the tone for the entire team. This is the kind of restaurant that goes beyond great food to create a truly memorable experience. Fort Oak has more than earned its reputation, and it’s a place we’ll confidently return to again and again.
Food was good but what made my meal outstanding was the GM’s service. Diana was so so nice and made my meal feel very special. Diana is the ideal manager for a place like this. My server Zahira was also an absolute gem. Z was so kind and tentative to anything I needed. 10/10 for Diana and Zahira. Thank you ladies for making my dinner the best.

Overall, we had a very good experience at Fort Oak. We had 5:15 dinner reservations on a Friday night on the patio. The heat lamps kept us warm without having to wear a coat. The service was average. One thing I did find weird is that we were sitting on the patio during happy hour and the hostess said guests with reservations on the patio don’t typically get access to the happy hour menu- but it says differently on their website. She “made an exception.” The jalapeño wings were fantastic, as well as the french fries with togarashi ranch. The sourdough was soft and warm, but 1/3 of a baguette for $13 is a little ridiculous. The halibut was cooked to perfection and probably the best halibut I’ve ever had. After dinner we waited in the Snowed In line for the Christmas bar. Talk about Christmas on steroids. It’s really a lollapalooza of sorts. The bar is covered from floor to ceiling with Christmas decorations. It was really fun and they had an ample amount of Christmas cocktails to choose from. One thing I wish I would have seen more is the staff wiping down the counters after people switch out their seats. All of these leftover glasses and mugs would just be hanging around right in front of you. The bartenders were extremely busy but a wipe down a couple times an hour would be helpful. It was a festive time though!
The hostess seemed to be in a bad mood, which was a shame, she’s so young. I tried smiling at her twice when we made eye contact but she didn’t smile back. The server, however, was great and gave us lots of helpful details. I had the branzino, but it was flavorless and definitely not worth $53 plus tip. The desserts were good—not too sweet—but nothing exceptional.
This restaurant popped up on my radar For its Christmas bar decorations. after looking more into The menu and seeing their Michelin star and bid, I definitely had to try it. I love the indoor and outdoor layout which invites a really unique outdoor setting. My fiance and I made reservations for Thursday night and it was quite packed Despite the rain. the Christmas bar is completely separate entry and section from the restaurant, fyi. also I highly recommend ubering here because parking is close to impossible. my fiance dropped me off so he could go look for parking. we ordered a variety of tasty dishes. we ordered the half lobster that was definitely top quality. I also loved steamed claims and mussels - it was one of those broths that you want to finish with dipping your bread. After we saw the table next to us order 3 pork chops we were sold to order it - it's one of there more popular dishes as well. Although I honestly thought it was just okay, nothing amazing to be signature worthy. They had an adorable holiday cocktail menu so I had to try one of them. As a tequila lover I ordered the cuffing season cocktail, it was so well balanced and tasty I ordered two! overall great spot for date night with an outdoor feel. Im sure it will be a hit in summer with warmer weather as well!
Had a nice time here with a group of 6. Most of the dishes were very well prepared, but only a couple of items were memorable and the beignets were not good imo. Every drink was well made and the service was superb. Nice ambiance, casual yet refined, would definitely return for drinks and the chicken liver mousse!

Decent food and good service. I recommend making a reservation ahead of time, as it can get really busy here. The only parking available is street parking, so you may need to drive a couple blocks around to find a spot. In terms of food, their salad is definitely the best salad I've ever tried. The dessert was also incredible. The other dishes were not good. Even the drink was way too salty. One thing I don't appreciate is them adding a 4% fee to "cover employee costs". Do not pass on employee benefit costs to customers. You need to pay them better, not us. They print it with super small font at the bottom of the menu. I will decrease my tip if you add this. I don't think the restaurant is worth going back to.

This was a place recommended to us by a friend so we decided to try it out. Overall we were disappointed by the food here. It did not live up to the hype. We got the tuna tartare to start which was actually quite good although it should have been served with chips instead of bread. There was also not enough bread for the tartare. We also ordered a hard cider which was decent. Not amazing but not bad either. We also ordered the lamb kefta, the carrots, the cavatelli, the duck, and the strip steak. The lamb kefta was a bit overcooked and the sauce with it was very harissa forward. It was not bad sauce necessarily, but it overpowered the lamb when eaten together. The carrots were good but inconsistently cooked. Some were not cooked enough. The ones that were cooked through were decent but it was difficult to deal with the inconsistency. The cavatelli was okay, but it was a bit too heavy and unbalanced. We felt it could have used more acid to brighten it up a bit. Although the sausage in it was good. It did have a bit of a strange aftertaste that was almost bitter. The duck and the steak were also just okay. The duck was seasoned on the outside so on the skin, but the meat itself was not salted or seasoned. The mole sauce with it was okay but didn't necessarily complement the duck. And the beans it was served with were not great. They were also very spicy. Finally the steak was cooked to medium rare when it was ordered rare. It was also served with these potatoes that were not cooked through. They were quite hard. And the bone marrow served with it was okay but had a strange taste to it. The butternut squash puree with the steak though was very good. They did give us a free apple crumble dessert though and that was by far the best apple crumble we have ever had. It was outstanding. If you do go here you must order this because it is incredible. The ice cream was homemade and was a tres leches flavor and was just very good.
Not awful, not great. Food was delicious and high quality, our server was polite and helpful. They brought us bread without asking and then charged us for it. We came for a birthday with 15 of us, and we had to choose to either commit to a $125 set menu for groups, or split the group up. So we didn’t even see the birthday boy because they wouldn’t move our table close to theirs, as if they were making us prove we weren’t a group to avoid their set menu. The hostess out front was rude, on her phone and disinterested. Our food was great, our table server was great, but disappointed in how they handle larger groups and the unnecessary attitude from the hostess. For these prices, I can find somewhere else to spend my money.
First time here. Came with friend and ordered lamb and quail appetizers: Luke warm, salty and just not that good. Entree: pork chops: unfortunately, it came sliced, luke warm, bland seasoning and just overall poorly plated. The veggies weren’t bad. Service severely lacking. Sat at bar for about 5+ minutes before being approached and another 10+ to order after getting drinks. The staff are low energy and a bit pretentious. Our waiter, tall, bearded fellow was too cool to ask how our meal was, never came by to check on us…the other gal, only asked if we wanted another drink or dessert that we immediately shot down. The vibe and atmosphere not bad bar side. There are similar establishments that offer similar menu options with superior service. $200+ for mediocre food and experience.
