Phenomenal! Presentation was simple yet elegant and most importantly, the baked goods were delicious. The cake wasn’t overwhelmingly sweet, the coffee and tea was also very tasty. Tea boiled at the perfect temp, no hint of bitterness and the coffee very smooth. . We ordered: • lemon poppy seed custard cake • basque cheesecake • coffee, jasmine green tea w/pomegranate 10/5 would go again! Side note on the customer service experience, having nothing to do with the amazing baked cakes. Customer service was friendly and welcoming. I got conned out of a table, (basically a customer said they were sitting there but my partner informed me I was basically talked out of a seat). Upon finding out, the staff person said she would let me know if anything opened up inside, which she did, however; karma on that other customer! I actually enjoyed being outside. I thanked the person immensely for offering the indoor seating though, it was very nice of them.
This place is excellent in everything from design to service and coffee,. You can really feel that people love what they do. BUT I think it should consider putting some stickers and restricting usage of laptops at least on their entrance hall, simply because it is a cafe not a coworking space and single guests occupying big tables for themselves is kinda hurting the business. Anyways a must visit place!
Hands down the best matcha I've had in San Diego. I got it with the brown sugar cold foam. So smooth, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. The lemon poppy cake and lotus cheesecake are absolutely out of this world! You can tell everything is made with care and love. Beyond the incredible drinks and desserts, what truly makes this place special is the people. The staff are genuinely kind, welcoming, and create an atmosphere that feels like a warm hug. It’s rare to find a spot that has everything... quality, vibe, and heart, but they have nailed it. Whether you're looking for a cozy place to study, get some work done, or just unwind, this is it.
Hinar Cafe is the perfect spot for coffee and cake lovers! The café is so clean and inviting, and the aroma of freshly brewed coffee is irresistible. Their cakes are absolutely delicious—light, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The staff is incredibly kind and friendly, making every visit a delightful experience. Highly recommend!”
Hinar Dessert Bar & Cafe is a beautiful and delicious addition to downtown San Diego. If you’re ever in East Village and craving a coffee/tea and dessert, then this is the place to go! Their signature latte is quite unique (I think with an orange blossom flavor?) and very enjoyable. Their desserts are stunning to look at and even better to taste. They’ve only just opened and I’ve already tried more of the desserts than I’m willing to admit, and I can’t wait to try more. The space itself is also a dream — gorgeously designed yet cozy. It looks small from the front, but they actually have a back area with some outdoor seating too. We will be visiting often!
Very nice and elegant coffee bar. I really liked the vibe and the decor of the place. I ordered a latte and my wife had a matcha. The barista was very friendly, when my wife mentioned she hadn’t ordered whipped cream, he added a special version to her matcha, making it extra delicious and unique. Next time, I’ll go back to try the desserts, they looked amazing.
Wow!! I am very impressed. The interior design and decoration is very earthly, creating a very calm and comfortable atmosphere for you. The pottery collection is a plus to enjoy while drinking your coffee. I love the cups and plates that they use! Very good taste! Now let me talk about the drinks and food. My latte was really good and the bakery is freshly made and so yummy. I ordered a basque cheesecake to go and have not tried it yet. But it looks very authentic to me. A must to go place in San Diego!!
Amazing experience at Hinar Cafe in San Diego! The coffee was beautifully crafted with perfect latte art, and the desserts were absolutely delicious. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, making it a great spot to relax and enjoy a treat. A special shoutout to Romi, who took great care of us and made the visit even more enjoyable. Highly recommend this cafe to anyone looking for quality coffee and excellent service!”
HINAR Dessert Bar & Café is a hidden gem in San Diego! I tried the chocolate banana dessert, and it was absolutely delicious—rich, perfectly balanced, and just the right amount of sweetness. Paired it with a great latte, and the combo was pure perfection. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, making it the perfect spot to treat yourself. Can’t wait to come back and try more!
I travel to many different places in various cities, and this is definitely one of the best coffee shops I've ever been to. The staff is great, the service is excellent, and it's a wonderful place to meet people or work in a very relaxing atmosphere. They also have very delicious desserts.
Stumbled into dessert gem! The cakes here are showstoppers topped with the prettiest flowers and just the right amount of sweetness (your diabetes will thank you). Sit at the stylish space in the back, perfect for pretending to be productive. Also tried their macarons, cheesecake, and coffee… would snack again. If you're into desserts that taste as good as they look, this place is vibe
Really the sweetest and most cozy location to enjoy delicate desserts!! The place was very unique and style, having really modern and yet elegant set up and the desserts were even more beautiful in comparison. Customer service was excellent and very welcoming!! Had the best cheesecakes and cakes to taste yet… highly suggest coming back!
I recently visited Hinar Dessert Bar & Cafe and was really impressed. The place feels warm and inviting, with a cozy yet modern vibe that makes it perfect for meeting friends or just relaxing with coffee and a dessert. I tried a couple of their signature sweets, and they were not only beautifully plated but also packed with flavor - you can tell they use quality ingredients. The staff was friendly and attentive without being intrusive, which made the whole experience even better. I’d definitely recommend stopping by if you’re in the area, and I’m already planning to come back to try more from their menu.
I went there twice during my stay in San Diego over the weekend! The place was beautiful decorated. I felt in love with their interior design with charming pottery pieces and all their furniture are so unique with cute details. The ambience inside the shop was very cozy and relaxing. I love matcha latter and mixed berry box. I also had banana cake which was good but a little too sweet for me. Overall I love this place and would definitely come back if I’m back to San Diego again!
The lattes are super creamy and smooth love love love. Matcha has a nice green shade, where you can definitely taste the matcha which is pretty strong but not too bitter or sweet. The desserts are all super cute and if you get things for dine in, the ceramics are super cute. Loveee the interior and there is so many areas to sit and great for doing work/studying with plugs and wifi. Love the vibes!
HINAR Dessert Bar & Café is a total “treat yourself” spot. The dessert display is gorgeous and everything tastes as premium as it looks. I grabbed a Biscoff latte and a slice of Basque cheesecake—both were rich, smooth, and not overly sweet. The space is bright and modern with a calm vibe that makes you want to sit and stay. Pro tip: weekends can get busy with a line, but service moves along once you order.
What a very clean and esthetically pleasing café! My mom and I found it very charming with a chill vibe and atmosphere. The staff members were pleasant and professional. You can notice that they take pride in their work and uniform appearance. The main area where you order was decorated in earth tones. Very light and very simple, but elegant. They also have an area that has a garden vibe with private enclosures and an outdoor area with more seating. I brought my mom for something warm to drink and since I'd heard so many good things about the coffee and other available beverages, I thought I'd finally try it. My mom and I were not disappointed! She had the drip coffee and I had the vanilla latte with the Biscoff foam. We both were like, "Mmm!", when we tasted it. We will definitely be returning! I would have ordered something from the beautiful display of pastries, but I gave up desserts and pastries for Lent. I'm coming after Easter to try some for sure!
Popular dessert destination and I can tell why! They have a variety of delicious pastries and flavorfull drinks. I do recommend sharing some of them. The larger pastries such as the cheesecakes and sweeter items such as the banana krokan are easily shareable. If you are going solo I recommend the black sesame as well as the matcha. There is a bit of a wait but it goes by fast. Staff is wonderful and offer great recommendations.
Came across this place while visiting San Diego and it was amazing! Ambience was great and the greenest matcha i’ve ever had from a cafe! The cake with the flower was incredibly creamy, soft, and not too sweet. It was perfect, in my opinion.
Great coffee with high-quality beans. They offer a nice variety of pastries, cheesecake, and macarons — I tried most of them and they were delicious. Prices are slightly high, but the place is perfect for studying or reading, and there’s also a livelier area if you come with friends. Would definitely recommend.
The coffee ☕️ they serve is extremely strong just the way I like. The place was pretty busy and they worked fast delivering the orders to the customers. There is indoor and outdoor seating. They sell really nice looking pastries and deserts. Order what you want at the counter and take it to your available seat.
Ordered a Banana Koffe, pistachio macaroon, and a vanilla latte with almond milk. The koffe was honestly the best thing I’ve tried so if you’re a big fan of chocolate and banana definitely try it. The vanilla latte was more of the strong side than sweet but the foam on top made up for it. The atmosphere is also very mellow and comforting if you want to read a book or catch up with any work on your laptop. The workers are also a plus with their excellent customer service.
The basque cheesecake was good! It wasn't to sweet and it tasted fresh. The strawberries and cream and lemon poppy cakes were good as well and also fresh tasting. Service was good and the ambience was nice!
Busy place but the matcha latte with Earl gray foam was super good. Their cake is sweet and flavorful as well. Definitely want to visit again next time.
What a beautiful cafe! I loved the aesthetic, the presentation and the overall vibe. I liked that every detail here is thought through, the details to me always make a difference! The place is great for a date, for a spot to meet with girlfriends and is kid-friendly as well. I loved the front side spots next to the window the best, but the area in the back and in outdoor patio is as lovely. I saw lots of people with their laptops, working and chatting, very cool social spot. Vanilla latte was perfect, very delicious. I didn’t enjoy my pastry as much hence the 4 star rating for food, but the ambiance here is so wonderful that I still highly recommend it and will come back for sure, to try other pastries as well. The service was great, and it was a beautiful experience.
People here are courteous and the desserts and drinks are top notch, atmosphere is great we got to see a mom and son duo playing chess. Good to see Kurdish inspired businesses. My wife herself is Kurdish. Spas ji bo mêvanperweriyê!!!
Highly recommend the matcha at this place. Make sure to get the syrup and the foam as it gives it a very unique flavor. Both blueberry and earl Grey were really good. The Basque cheesecake was really good as well, a must try! The line can get long and you might end up waiting more than expected. Service can be a bit slow and sometimes good deserts get over, so make sure to go there early.
Beautiful presentation of their cakes and pastries. The place is a bit small, so there can be lines out the door during busy times.

Love this café... The latte is creamy with great espresso beans. Plenty of desserts to satisfy the sweet tooth. The outdoor seating gives a cool vibe like a café in Europe. Definitely a great place for an afternoon pick-me-up.

A delightful, cozy place to enjoy our after dinner espresso and dessert. Like others have noted, the space is aesthetically pleasing. There is more seating in the back of the restaurant as well as outdoor space. We arrived around 7:20 PM, so there was not a big selection of pastries left, but what we did order was incredible. The “Lotus” cheesecake was so fluffy and the perfect combination of sweet & tangy. The black sesame with strawberry jam reminded me of a classic Japanese dessert- light and not overly sweet. Their signature orange blossom latte (hot) was such a delight and so beautifully aromatic. For those complaining about the small espresso selection… no need when they have their signature orange blossom. My only complaint is the drink was lukewarm upon arrival. The owners were so appreciative, friendly, and it was nice to hear them share their background and how they came up with the concept and design of Hinar. I’m excited to return during the day to try their other desserts and try the orange blossom over ice. It is a bit pricey but it was date night!
We came here by the Gaslamp location of Hinar Dessert Bar and Cafe after dinner, and I can see why this place is so popular! It’s such a cool, cozy spot to hang out, and I was surprised by how spacious the seating is. I think "Hinar" means pomegranate, which fits perfectly since so many of their desserts are fruit-based. We ordered the raspberry white chocolate cake and the chocolate cake. Both were delicious and "nicely done"—they even came decorated with a real carnation flower on top, which was a beautiful touch. The coffee game is strong here, too. I tried the Orange Blossom Latte; it was fruity, unique, and very creative. Definitely a great dessert spot with super friendly people. Highly recommend checking it out if you're downtown!
Hinar is such a beautiful and cozy café, and their matcha is genuinely the best I’ve ever had. My only suggestions would be more parking and seating, and improved WiFi for people who want to study. Still, the ambiance and aesthetic make it worth visiting!
We wanted dessert and head there after looking at the reviews. It was almost closing time so their case was not full of dessert so I didn’t have much of a choice. I was kind of a little disappointed, but the service was sweet and that atmosphere was nice. It was busy all the tables inside and outside were full so we kinda had to find a little corner and sit down while we got our drinks. My husband ordered a Matcha drink and I ordered a lemon poppy cake, Which they recommended because it was one of their popular items. They gave us the cake, beautiful presentation, on a beautiful plate. I gave half of it back and the guy behind the counter said it looks like you didn’t like it. I can give you something else but because they didn’t have much of a selection I really couldn’t choose so I said it’s totally fine. Definitely try it out. I recommend not when it’s closing time but when they may first open or mid afternoon, just because I feel like the case would be more full.
Very gen z with the gen z stare. The cafe is super cute though with a few different rooms for working. The desserts are pretty and taste fine. Nothing really stood out in terms of flavor.

This is an upscale Cafe serving coffee and fancy dessert. Staff were friendly and the place was clean. The deserts are hit and miss. The orange blossom latte was fine. Some of the desserts are over done so be aware when making your selection. The Basque cheesecake is good but more like in between a normal cheesecake and a basqe cheesecake. The banana Krokan didn't really hold up. It was a mess of texture with mild flavor. I would go back here for specific things but that would depend on preference and trial and error.
First time visiting. I came in literally about five minutes before closing, so they only had two cake options left: the lemon poppy seed and the black sesame strawberry. Neither flavor really appealed to me, but since those were the only choices, I decided to try the black sesame strawberry. The cake wasn’t too sweet and was definitely unique, which I can appreciate. That said, the flavor just wasn’t for me. It wasn’t bad, but it also wasn’t something I truly enjoyed or would crave again. The shop itself is nice and well put together, but the surrounding area had a lot of homeless activity, which made me a bit uncomfortable. Because of both the flavor preference and the location, I personally wouldn’t return, though I can see how someone who enjoys more adventurous or subtle dessert flavors might appreciate it.
There were a lot of people waiting, so I had high expectations. I ordered the Biscoff cheesecake — the cheese layer was delicious, but the base was tasteless. The macarons were not very special, and the sesame cake didn’t taste like sesame at all; it tasted more like white chocolate and was even sweeter than the Biscoff caramel part. Overall, it wasn’t worth the wait.

Got the matcha latte with brown sugar cream top. Was pretty mid matcha and somehow tasted a bit watered down. The shop is really cool a cool hangout spot and the baristas were really nice!
We had one strawberry cream cake and a piece of basque cheesecake. All of the cakes looked good in their glass showcase, and I kind of liked their basque cheesecake, but maybe I expected too much... nothing was special to me... also, it took a bit longer to get our order. After waiting over 30min sitting at the table, we thought that something went wrong and had to check on our orders to the cashier as taking the pieces of cakes out of the showcase, placing them on a plate, and serving them would not take that long. Lastly, we really didn't like their coffee... BUT they did a great job with their interior design- good for SNS!
This was my first time trying matcha here, and they made a great first impression. I absolutely loved it and even came back the very next day because it was so good. Unfortunately, the second experience was not the same; there was barely any cold foam on my drink, and the taste was noticeably different, which was really disappointing since I was expecting the same quality as the first visit. I also want to address an accessibility concern because for customers with strollers or wheelchairs, the space is extremely tight and difficult to navigate, and when waiting in the hallway for drinks it’s almost impossible to maneuver a stroller, wheelchair, or wagon comfortably. While there is a ramp, that alone does not make the space truly accessible, and I hope more consideration can be given to people with disabilities and families with children. Shame on you!
The cakes are decorated with a simple carnation flowers , which is why you pay a high price, but the flavors aren't good enough. There's no variety of drinks, and the ones they do have aren't tasty enough to make you want to come back for another, the matcha 🍵 And I'm a matcha lover, and honestly, it wasn't good at all, I can't even drink it 🥺🤢The place is too small to really relax. In conclusion, going viral is prioritized over quality, which is why it's relatively famous. You can go if you just want to take a picture and pretend 🤷🏻♀️Thank you!!
My first time here today. Pros: Good ambience Simple menu Good amount of seating Great design layout Beautiful dessert display upon entry probably the most amount of color you will see Cons: Aesthetic feels stale, boring, cold Cashier customer service needs improvement Cannot adapt to make their seasonal iced biscoff drink hot should be no problem turning a cold drink into a hot one unless their is a good explanation for it ex.taste is altered I was told because it has cold foam can’t make it hot well yeah obviously don’t put the cold foam on the hot drink but a good barista can adapt Example: make cream hot foam, turn into a flavored latte, add foam flavor as hot milk Orange blossom latte is not something I’ll go out of my way to order again maybe improve on the flavor I didn’t detect an orange flavor Drink menu is not visible I stood in line looking around for it you need to wait till you get to the register to see the menu which delays customer wait/ order times
