Opinions de Ike’s Place San Diego
Ordered takeout and the sandwiches are absolutely delicious & delightful. The dutch crunch bread paired with their dirty sauce is by far the best flavors I've EVER tasted in a sandwich. We both got the Barry Bonds but were able to make modifications and add our favorite veggies. I'm already looking forward to the next time we get sandwiches for lunch and can eat the other half for dinner. Also, shoutout to the Hillcrest location - the employees were so friendly and kind!!!!
I am in love! As a San Diego transplant, Bay Area native I’ve been CRAVING any sandwich on some Dutch Crunch and I finally got my fix! To add the cherry on top of it all, it came with a caramel apple pop. Now I’m homesick. Sandwich is fire, service was great! I recommend and will definitely be back to try more
One of my new favorite places! A non meat eater and a vegan go out to lunch….and we’re very happy with their choice. Ike’s has a wide variety of sandwiches, and many of them can be made vegan on request in addition to having an already large vegan selection on the menu. I have always looked longingly at sandwiches that have turkey stuffing and cranberry sauce in them. Well no stuffing but vegan turkey, cranberry sauce, We got the “Falling for Ike’s” on sourdough and it was a real treat for non meat eaters. Subbed vegan cheddar. Split the sandwich, sat outside, and anxious to go back!
All I can say is wow. We bought sandwiches for a lunch meeting and everyone was pleasantly surprised. I got a Madison Bumgardener and it was a flavor explosion in my mouth. It was so filling I could only eat half of it.
Hands down, 1 of the top pastrami sandwich I've had in SD. Not to mention, the cute girl at the counter is super pretty and helpful.
Love this place!! (And there are more locations opening in San Diego soon!) there are a ton of VEGAN options and you can make almost any sandwich vegan. The service is always friendly, quick and most importantly delicious. Would definitely recommend coming here for lunch.

Best thing about Ike's is the Dutch crunch bread rolls. Next is the fillings they layer between the roll. And then there is their own sauces and toppings. They have an excessive list of sandwiches, including vegetarian and vegan. Everything is fresh and delicious.
I had a great chicken sandwich here. Fun little sandwich shop with clever names for all its dishes. Prices were good, sandwiches were great. I'll be back to try another sandwich. It in a busy complex where Trader Joe's is located. Very close to the big Scripts hospital complex.
I’ve eaten here a couple times ,customer service has always been good. My Go to is the Junior Seau sandwhich. I highly suggest you signing up with rewards program/ app cause you get nice little deals on there from time to time and also if you put your bday on your profile you are able to get a free sandwich. I would say that the app needs a upgrade cause you can’t view the images of the sandwiches & I was a bit confused with ordering I thought the order “as is” option automatically meant veggies would be included on my sandwich but I guess you have to actually add that when your placing your order. It’s a bit confusing but not rocket science. Love the quality , love the taste. I also love the Carmel apple lollipop you get when you order a sandwich. Parking is free and shared with the plaza. It can get crowded though (if you have to drive I would say try and pick up before rush times lunch/dinner.)
My friend and I picked up sandwiches to go before one of the sporting events. I ordered the Menage A Trois (Halal Chicken, BBQ, Honey Mustard, Real Honey, Swiss, Pepper Jack, Cheddar). My friend and I split onion rings and mozzarella sticks. They only gave 4 mozz sticks and they were like half baked, not crispy at all or gooey. The onion rings and ranch were good but the sandwich was bomb af. The sandwich was really nice as well.

Ike’s is a cool little sandwich shop. It was my first time ordering from there so I didn’t know what to expect. The sandwich was huge and decadent. The sourdough bread is a nice texture. Not dry. The only thing that could have been better was the sauce situation. They drowned the sandwich in sauce. I couldn’t taste anything else. Had I known this was the case I would have asked for the sauce on the side.

Eh. The flavors were good, but I can't justify the cost. I got the Paul Reuben on Dutch Crunch and asked for jalapenos and banana peppers. My sandwich was missing the cheese, banana peppers, jalapenos, and crunch part of the Dutch Crunch bread. My bread was completely soft and there just wasn't much meat. 4 thin slices of meat, 2 tomato slices, slaw, and soft dense bread. It's hefty. Huge and heavy. But the execution was poor. It's a slow Sunday afternoon.
Sadly my review aligns with others regarding the wait time and quality/quantity issues. First of all, the hours on the website are INACCURATE. Do you realize you have customers that are showing up at 10:00 A.M. on Saturdays because your website for the University Ave location says Saturdays open 10:00 A.M. - 8:00 P.M. (not to mention it's the only day of the week in BOLD lettering). Google maps, which is heavily utilized, also shows the same opening time of 10:00 A.M. on Saturdays. Honestly, it's easy to fix and if you correct this problem, you'll have happier customers. When we showed up around 10:10 A.M. there was another customer who showed up, actually entered the shop, and then quickly exited because he was told they open at 11:00 A.M. Secondly, since we got there at 10:10 A.M. and they were closed we figured we'd order for pick-up on their website and go for a walk around the neighborhood while we waited. We easily placed our order and we selected 11:00 A.M. pick up time (assuming that if we make that selection, it will actually be ready for pick-up). We went for a walk and returned at 11:02 A.M. and there was already a line out the door. So my husband sticks his head in the door to check on our order and they said, "We're still working on it." Okay. You just opened. He checks again, after 18 minutes, and was told they were "still working on it." In the meantime, the first customer who ordered at the register already got her sandwiches and another order for pick up got theirs. Okay, ours was finally ready around 11:25 A.M. This isn't rocket science. To the owner or manager of this establishment, why on earth would you allow the option for an 11:00 A.M. pick up time selection if you're not going to honor it? I read the reviews and your customers are complaining about THE SAME ISSUES. It's easy to fix!!! Instead you're leaving people feeling frustrated and regretting the time and money spent. Thirdly, our sandwiches (two Matt Cain's) were good- not outstanding, but definitely better than your average subway sandwich. I love Dutch crunch, but the bread to meat ratio was COMPLETELY imbalanced. I felt like I was eating soooo much bread compared to meat and veggies. Beware, the middle split where your sandwich is sliced will look incredible but it is quite deceiving. A good portion of the ends do not have any meat, just lettuce and bread. We checked "extra sauce" when ordering but it seemed like an average amount. To sum up, I'm glad we tried the sandwiches. They have potential. I'm disappointed on the execution and the fact that our experience matched other reviews. Reviewers receive a response from the owner but yet customers are making the same complaints. That tells me management isn't concerned. Fix these problems and you'll get 5 star reviews. When writing a review, I ask myself, will I come back? If the answer is yes, you automatically get 3 stars. I'd like to give them another chance. One star deducted for the inaccurate store opening times that are falsely advertised on their website & Google Maps AND for the 25 minute wait time that incurred after my scheduled pick up time. They also lose a star for the lack of meat. If I'm paying $13 for a sandwich, it should have an appropriate amount of protein. Management, don't just respond to the reviewer, actually listen to us!! Edit: Forgot to mention their phone doesn't work, either. It's disconnected and when a fellow customer mentioned it to staff they got the response, "Oh yeah, it's not working."
It didn’t live up to the hype. The sandwich had a good amount of meat in the middle and none at the end. 60% bread only. Asked for specific instructions on the sandwich got ignored it even said it on the receipt. Overall 3/5 stars.. I might give it another shot!

usually great but today my sandwich had 2 small pieces of tomato, 1 VERY thin slice of eggplant and a TON of lettuce and absolutely dripping with sauce. It was so gross and for $18 SUPER disspointing. If you go, eat in so if there is a problem you can take care of it... don't do take out!

I love ikes I usually go to a different location but happened to be in the area so I stopped in to get one of my faves. As I first walked in the music was so loud I could barley think and the staff seem to be playing or messing around after they saw me they turned the music down and eventually someone came to help me. As they were taking my order I looked down and noticed the guys gloves were very dirty and from the time of taking my order making orders and me leaving he had never changed his gloves! Also while I was waiting I was looking around and noticed overflowing trashcan and trash on the floor and instead of doing something about it they were walking around it. There was at least 4 people working and they weren't busy but they seemed more interested in having fun then doing their job. To anyone thinking of eating here you should go to another ikes location or anywhere else!

I used to love Ike’s and would visit monthly- My favorite sandwich was the Phil Mickelson. I moved and hadn’t had it in over a year. I ordered it today and left disappointed. Half the sandwich was missing meat, the Dutch crunch was stale, and overall missed the punch. I spent over $18 to just throw way 75% off my sandwich because it was basically just two pieces of stale, soggy bread With an onion ring and not enough chicken to get a child full. I’m not sure what happened in the past year But charging people nearly $20 to eat A sandwich with hardly anything inside is ridiculous. I sincerely hope it gets better from here.
This was my first time ever trying Ike’s sandwiches and I was super excited because my friends and family always rave about them and I’m sad to say that I was left unsatisfied. I ordered the Menage A Trois. It has chicken in it and I asked for lettuce and tomato. Honestly, the ingredients were tasty but not necessarily the freshest :/ my sandwich was dry and flat and didn’t have enough chicken and barely any lettuce or tomato considering that it was $16!! There was a lot of bread left over because of how little filling there was. Maybe I will try a different location to see if that changes anything.

I never leave reviews but I felt compelled to warn people about the deceptive practices of this business when ordering online delivery. I ordered two subs and neither of them contained an ounce of meat. One sandwich had two tiny pieces of meat and the rest was toppings. The other sandwich which was supposed to have beef and turkey had so little meat that you wouldn't even get to taste the combination together. Never ordering from this place again and if you do order from them be sure to check your sandwich. Complete ripoff for $44+ For reference I ordered the same sandwich from the review below this one. That person ordered In the store vs my delivery

I ordered 2 Tony Gwynn sandwhiches today and they were terrible. There was hardly any turkey and the bread was very soggy. The french fries also were soggy. Very disappointed in the food today.
I am posting this in an other restaurant I previously went to and Carlos the general manager made me feel horrible. He made it seem like I was as fault thay they had no mayo and other ingredients to make my sandwich . This has by far been the worst service I’ve ever been given in my life. Besides a bad review I don’t know what to do. This is horrible.
