Rocking' Baja Lobster - Old Town is the gem of Old Town San Diego. The portions and quality of food is perfect for any pallet. Good luck with finishing your meal, as the amount of food you get is enough for two to eat. The drinks are generous and well prepared! Restaurant staff is friendly, accommodating, and happy to see you. The location is ideal with free parking in Old Town. You can literally spend hours there. Perfect 10
Rockin Baja Lobster never disappoints. We have gone there many times and always get the large Alaska Kkng Crab combo bucket. It is very messy with all of the awesome spices that they use on the crab legs and lobster but it is well worth it. I highly recommend this place.
Wow!! My first time here and I'm for sure letting my friends and family know about this place. Delicious food and excellent customer service 👍🏽
Delicious shellfish at Rockin’ Baja Lobster in Old Town! Great, laid back surf vibe with lots of seating and an outdoor, covered, dog friendly patio. We ordered the original Baja bucket for two with the lobster chowder and fried ice cream. Everything tasted amazing, especially the lobster tail. The mai tais were very tasty. A staff member came and offered free photos and post cards. There is $7 valet parking available. The staff were all very friendly and accommodating, and orders came out quickly. Recommend!
Recently I was with a group of 20 from work. We were seated in a side room. Excellent seating!! Our server was Manny. He was just an awesome server. With all the requests for drinks special orders Manny kept it all in stride. He got all the orders perfectly correct. Ordered the Surf and Turf but wanted more carne asada than shrimp. I ordered the coffee&Kahlua which when it came was cold Manny replaced the drink. The service was exceptional!! Everyone got their food in good time. We had a blast because the entire evening went flawlessly. Food out of this world delicious!! Parking in Old Town is crazy. Rocking had ample parking spaces for our group. I am disabled and sure enough there was disabled parking. Gotta go... I mean when you gotta go you don't want to be hunting for a bathroom. Rockin got you covered. Bathrooms,(very clean ), right as you enter the restaurant Too much to drink well as you exit bathrooms are right there!! ZRockin is easy to find all lit up with torches illuminating the restaurant. Why go anyplace else in Old Town? Rockin has it ALL! Good food, excellent service and a fun atmosphere. Will I be going back? You better believe it This place Rocks!! When you get there just tell them Le Critique Rube in the hood recommends this place so... it must be awesome!! MANY MANY.... MANNY 😊
Im not a seafood lover but my friend is, so we decided to check this place out. They definitely did NOT disappoint! From the host to our server Chris and the whole staff - friendly, professional and attentive. I’ve never left a restaurant with an empty plate before, however, this time, both me and my friend finished the whole meal! They have great options for people who don’t like seafood and some amazing options for people who do. Cocktails were also very very good!!! Absolutely recommend!!!
Thank you, Guillermo, who made our 1st visit there an adventure. Great recommendations and service. Taco sampler was so darn good (steak, lobster and shrimp). Tacos were literally packed to the top with meat. No useless fillers. We skipped the Kick Ass Sauce because we don't do hot sauce. The Mexican Street corn was wonderful and presented well. We will definitely be back.
I haven't rated a restaurant 5 star in a while but this definitely meets the standard. Went during happy at 3 pm on Friday. House Margarita was amazing, they did not hold back on the tequila. The lobster taco on the happy hour menu was the best I've had. All the palapa menu items were incredible and the lobster and shrimp were perfectly cooked and were brought out in less than 8 minutes. They have a killer self service salsa bar and everything was so fresh. Make me want to move to San Diego. Great place for families, friends and I was told that it is a great place for locals as well. Waiting staff were super friendly and attentive. Don't miss this place if you are in Old Town.
This Baja seafood restaurant had a crazy vibe, great food, friendly service, and a large dining room. Their dining room had enough seats for big groups, a decent bar, a self-serve station with a few delicious free sides, and lovely decorations. Highly recommend their Big Baja bucket. The menu marked this bucket for 2-3 ppl, but it was enough for 4 people. This combo came with lobsters, steaks, shrimps, corns, rice, and fried ice cream. Their seafood was fresh and juicy, but steaks were terrible overcooked like a dry wood. Calamari appetizer was decent and crispy with limes. Their free chips were authentic with their impressive mango salsa. The grilled peppers sides were also delicious.
Great atmosphere. Off the main street, so it is like a hidden gem. Ordered a bucket off food for 2 and it was too much for 3 people. Our server was friendly but he forgot one of our tables drink. It was an hour before closing and the employees were hovering and cleaning so it felt a bit rushed. Also had to ask for our dessert. The food was wonderful. It was nice and warm with the heaters. Worth the visit for the food. Would be 5 stars if the cleaning and such didn't happen at the level we experienced.
The bucket of food was the hit here! This huge tray/bucket of food was brought to our table and oh my...lobster, crab legs, shrimp, chicken, steak, etc. My margarita was the size of my head too! Don't think there was a lot of tequila in it though...so mostly sugar, sweet and sour and a few shots of tequila. I wouldn't order it again at that price point with such a small amt of tequila. But our server was great and the food was yummy! Happy Hour there before dinner has some great deals as well (and the bartender was super friendly)
Stopped by Rocking Baja Lobster & Grill in Old Town San Diego for a quick lunch. The ambience was great and the food was good too. The tequila lime shrimp were packed with flavor—perfectly cooked with a zesty, well-balanced citrus kick. The lobster and shrimp bites tasted good: crispy, flavorful, and great for sharing. The corn ribs were a fun surprise, similar to the Elotes i have tried in many other mexican restaurants, creamy and rich in flavour. We also tried a few tacos, all solid with fresh ingredients and generous fillings, however felt these could have been made a little better. The seafood skillet melt stood out as a comfort dish done right—cheesy, hearty, and loaded with seafood, served hot and full of flavor. Lively atmosphere, good portions, and friendly service make this a great spot in Old Town for Mexican-seafood fusion and drinks. Definitely worth a visit when you’re in the area.
Fun spot with a Louisiana-style kick! We ordered the Big Baja to Alaska bucket with extra shrimp. Great presentation and really tasty. It comes with the Lobster Chowder, rice and beans, a Cesar Salad, and fried ice cream. The lobster chowder was delicious, and the salsa bar with chips adds a nice touch. Lobster and shrimp were definitely the highlights, though the king crab wasn’t quite as good as expected. Overall, a fun atmosphere with great staff and solid seafood.
Food was delicious everyone was happy. We had reservations and were seated right away. There is $7 valet for parking. Seating at the outdoor terrace was nice, good for large group 5+. Lobster roll was delicious and very filling. The tacos were overpriced; the meat was tender, although the shrimp in the taco is spicy. The fajita was good, and enough for two people to share since it comes with sides too. The most popular item out of the group were the appetizers: calamari was so delicious and crispy, and the oysters with the flavorful sauce it comes with. There is a salsa bar thats self serve, wide variety. They served chips when you are first seated. And they serve mexican cola and fanta for drinks if you ask. Good spot in Old Town, would come again.
3rd visit: tourist spot, they have daily deals checkout their website. the ice cream was not crispy my second visit. the portion of seafood blanket is decent, came with salad and bean rice. last but not least was fried corn flakes and vanilla ice-cream as wrap up. super full after that.
The restaurant experience was good, not much wait for a table for 2. We were given chips and had to get ourselves the salsa at the endless salsa bar. The food overall was okay, the portion was fairly small considering the price. The chicken, and meat were salty and the only great meal was the ceviche and it’s an appetizer 😂
Used to Be My Favorite… But Service Has Slipped I’ve been coming here for years—usually with large parties to celebrate birthdays, milestones, and family gatherings. We used to love it. But our recent visit left us really disappointed. We had a party of 12, split pretty evenly between adults and kids. We ordered four buckets, extra chicken and Carne Asada (since some don’t eat seafood), plus separate entrees. When the soup and salads came out, they were mostly handed to the side with children and teens, leaving the adults without portions. No one asked where the food should go, and our server never came back to offer refills or check if we needed anything else. To make things worse, I had to get up and find utensils myself—and later had to track down an employee just to get crab crackers. For a place that’s used to hosting large parties, the lack of attentiveness was surprising. I did speak with the manager afterward—she was kind and apologetic, which I appreciated. But honestly, I expected some kind of gesture to acknowledge the inconvenience. Even a small offer like a free appetizer or drinks for a future visit would’ve gone a long way. We dine here about six times a year with big groups, and we’ve chosen other places lately—Cafe Coyote and Guadalajara—because this experience made us rethink things. It’s sad, because this used to be my go-to spot for celebrations. I hope they take feedback seriously and improve service for large parties. Loyal guests deserve better. I spent close to $1000 that included a good tip still.
Great experience, great food, Server was amazing. Reason for 3 stars on service was we were a big party (14) and they kept giving us the run around about when our table would be ready. After initially stating it was a 10 min wait, they pushed it to almost 45 min. I asked if we could sit separately and they stated we could all sit together that the table was ready. After about another 10 min they said the tables were not ready amd apologized. I then again requested to sit separate and they agreed this time. So the waiting sucked, but after we were in and sitting was a great experience.
Very very pricy for the food quality & ambiance. We paid $233 for just 3 people with single drink. I could have gone to any Mexican resturance and have better food at 1/3 the price. We had to leave shrimp dish as is because it was partially cooked and order something else. Overall stay away from this place.
Not worth $25.00. When I ordered tacos I was shocked they were street taco size and for $25.00, plus the lobster taco had hardly any lobster.....mainly pico ...very disappointed. My friends also ordered tacos and the cost was the same but there portion size was way bigger a normal taco size....than mine... first time and last time ...for the cost ..go somewhere else..you can do way better for a $25.00 taco plate.
