Madison receives high praise for its beautiful ambiance, live music (especially jazz on Tuesdays/Sundays), and attentive service (Johnny, Sean, Jenny, Ashley, Jon, Leah mentioned). Popular for brunch and dinner. Some find it overpriced with small portions and spotty service.

The restaurant is beautiful, great ambiance, delicious food and a good weekday happy hour!
My friend and I came in to eat dinner last night and we loved the vibe! There was live music as well so it was even better. Jon (Jonathan T) was our server and he was very kind, attentive and helpful when taking our order. We ordered the Ribeye as well as the PPP as it was a gluten free option. The ribeye was cooked to perfection but the pasta really missed the mark. Jon noticed we hadn’t touched the dish and took care of the item for us! We understand that GF pasta can be tricky but he really went above and beyond!
We were a walk in and didn't realize they closed within an hour and hated to be those people but we were gladly seated at the bar where they happily said we had 10-15 before kitchen closed,we ordered our dishes, a cocktai,l and a beer. The warmest service from Jenny and Ashley. It felt like you were at home, the H&H was qmazing, gnocchi, pesto, and tuna were awesome. thank you for an incredible experience. Even gave us local recommendations. 🫶🏼
Nice brunch at Madison in University Heights! Beautiful ambiance that makes you want to take pictures, perfect place for a get together with friends. We enjoyed the tiramisu espresso martini and old fashioned for cocktails. For brunch the chicken fried steak & eggs and the G.O.A.T. breakfast sandwich were really yummy. Love that they are dog friendly. Recommend, really cool spot!
We really like our weekend brunch at Madison. It's a beautiful restaurant and I suggest requesting the back patio or restaurant. It's very cute and the decor is beautiful. The outdoor seating in front is not as nice and you're basically sitting on the sidewalk on a busy street. Reservations are highly recommended because they can get quite busy. I ordered the chilaquiles and it was good, but wish I ordered the eggs either fried or scrambled instead of poached. The egg yolk just mellowed the other flavors out and I was just tasting egg yolk all over the dish. And I usually like poached eggs too. It just didn't work for me on this dish. My friend did say that she liked her breakfast sandwich and chai latte very much. Parking is a big deterrent for us from coming back more often. It's hard finding parking on the streets. We drove around for almost 30 mins.
Tuesdays and Sundays this place has some awesome live Jazz! Even better, our server Sean was incredible throughout the night. He was attentive and grabbed our attention immediately and guided us through our first experience at this restaurant from the cocktails, to the appetizers, entrees, and desserts. He gave us his own personal recommendations which was very helpful for both of us. The meal was elegant yet fairly priced, well cooked and prepared with care. The drinks were exceptional and vibrant. Can’t wait to come back for more jazz and good cuisine!
Madison was a beautiful spot to have some dinner at. The menu had so many different options on it. I went with the Penne A La Vodka, and it did not disappoint. There was live music that wasn’t too loud. Lastly, we ended with the churro waffles and they were perfectly fried/cooked up. If you’re looking for some yummy food, and a fun atmosphere, this is your spot!
I was looking for a dinner reservation near normal Heights and this restaurant popped up with availability on opentable. That's literally how random I found this restaurant, and I could not be more pleased with my find! Such an adorable and unique structural concept. Very indoor outdoor feel with a large Arch over the back restaurant space. There's a party of six of us we sat outside in the front patio space, still had a very cute Ambience, had picnic style bench seating with plenty of heaters and nice light decor. This restaurant is right near the University Heights sign and extra parks and rec, so it really adds to the ambiance of being in the neighborhood. Our server's name was brittany, she was so sweet, nice, and patient with us. We ordered a variety of food and drinks. I was so impressed with their espresso Martini selection! From tiramisu to Oreo expresso martinis! I decided to try one of their holiday drinks, the fickle mistress, which is a Mezcal based cocktail. We ordered the Tomato burrata, skirt steak, and tuna tartare as starters. My fiance and I ordered the jambalaya and gnocchi to share. One of the best gnocchi's I've had hands down. The skirt steak definitely has a Mediterranean twist, it's not traditionally prepared American style, but I still loved it. Overall had such a great experience, would 100% recommend this place for a great dinner date or dinner outing with friends. I will definitely be coming back!
One of my favorite restaurants in San Diego. Love that you are able to make a reservation online. We sat in the bar area. The booths were very comfortable and the music wasn’t super loud so you were able to still chat. Great cocktail menu and decent wine list. Some wines are locally made. We both had the Chicken Piccata. Perfect portion size. The lemon mashed potato’s were not super lemony which was nice. Service was excellent. Perfect for a date night or even a business meal.
Went out to brunch at The Madison with my wife. We started with the breakfast shots which were amazing. Then we ordered a couple other cocktails, I had the Heavyset Honeybee and she had the Motorbike. Both of these cocktails were also great. Onto the food... I had the breakfast burrito which was very good and she had the carnitas bowl which she loved. The service and atmosphere were both top notch. Bartenders and wait staff were friendly and on top things the entire time. It was quite refreshing to see the level of pride this establishment takes when it comes to delivering a top notch experience to their customers. 10/10 would recommend to anyone looking for a great place with great service!
Have been here a few times. Architecture of the restaurant is cool and the food is good. Would just caution to avoid on any holidays. We booked the restaurant for New Year’s Eve and were told it was a pre-fixe menu only the day before. The pre-fixe menu was only 3 courses: 4 appetizer options, 4 entree options and 1 small dessert - drink pairing was extra. It was $99 before tax, tip or their obligatory service fee charge. Nothing about the meal warranted the cost. I understand a surcharge for holidays, but this just felt like robbery. TLDR visit on a random day and ensure there’s no pre-fixe menu. Also avoid when raining - indoor/outdoor architecture makes it exposed to the elements.
We went for an early dinner on a Thursday night. The appetizers were very good. We enjoyed the stuffed squash blossom and the ahi poke wontons. The drinks were aesthetically pleasing and well-made. We had the motorbike, the queen of crowns, and night forage. It was not at all busy and service was just fine. The lobster risotto was really bad. The rice was undercooked, there were tiny little shreds of lobster, and it was flavorless. The salmon chimichurri entree was pretty good, as was the pineapple coconut cheesecake. We were really disappointed in the risotto, and wish we had sent it back.
Everything we ordered was amazing and our waitress, Leah was really friendly and attentive. We highly recommend the skirt steak and the burrata. The restaurant also looks very modern and has great live music (it’s a little too loud). The only down side was the pork chop, it was pretty meh and I couldn’t get through the porky smell
Found this restaurant online and went there because reviews were pretty good and they have live music on certain nights. Food was good and service was okay, there was only one food sever for the entire restaurant! Everything was pretty good until we got our bill, for some reason they add a FIVE percent service fee on to all checks! Which is not posted anywhere on the menu. Beware!
My two friends and I recently visited Madison on Park for brunch, and unfortunately, our experience was very disappointing. When we were seated, no one greeted us for at least five minutes -- it was not busy, plenty of open tables around us. We eventually had to get up and ask the hostess to please send a server to our table. Our server, Paulina Y, rarely checked in on us throughout the meal. We could see her sitting at the bar talking with a friend while we were still waiting to order additional drinks (we were sitting out back at the "outside" table closest to the bar). To make matters worse, we weren't informed that several menu items were unavailable/sold out until we were ready to place our food order. The restaurant was even out of basic items like ketchup. While we understand that shortages and issues can happen, communication and attentiveness go a long way. Given that brunch came to about $75 per person, we expected a higher level of service. My friend asked to speak with a manager to express that customers paying these prices anticipate better hospitality and organization; his response was less than apologetic. We truly hope management takes this feedback seriously and works to improve the overall customer experience.
Food and drinks are good, but way overpriced. I'm treated like a pariah, but staff responds to most customers well. Overall, there are more affordable and more welcoming restaurants within walking distance. As a local, I have better options.
My experience at Madison on Park was generally positive. I came with my friends for their New Year’s special. It was supposed to be advertised as a three course meal for 99 dollars. Drinks were paired with the meals on the menu, which would have been worth the the money. However, the bill reflected the drinks as a separate cost. I think it was dishonest to advertise a menu, pairing the drinks the the meals, and then charge for them separately. Also, they charged a 5% “hospitality” charge, and expect an additional tip for the server. So I was charged an additional fee to eat in a restaurant? I would beware of this establishment’s “specials,” or at least inquire with the server beforehand. I ended up paying 170 dollars, when I expected to pay 100 dollars plus tip.
Underwhelming place. For price of the drink and food, the portion was small and drink was not strong. The food wasn't bad, but also not anything to write home about. $22 ceviche came with 2 chips and when we asked for more chips, we were charged $2.5 for 2 additional chips... This nickle and dime policy is a little disappointing considering there were 6 of us and we spent close to $100 per person after tips and tax and $18 "hospitality fees." Service wise, they were nice and prompt. Atmosphere wise, it's a cute place, however you have to really scream to talk to one another, our throats were hoarse the next day.
Our experience was underwhelming. The aesthetic was cool and we were excited to check out this place given other reviews but it really did not live up to the hype. For the objectively high prices, the food (chicken piccata and ravioli) and cocktails (old fashioned and honeybee) were thoroughly okay. Our food also came out so quickly that it made me question the freshness and quality. Overall, I don’t think we’d give it another try.
A little underwhelming unfortunately. The atmosphere is the best part. We were really exited to check this place out, especially since it was recommended by a friend. The server was very kind, but service was spotty. Due to the structure of the building it is very loud and hard to hear sometimes. We ordered four entree's and they all came out 8 minutes later.... just makes you wonder how fresh and made to order the items are. Overall, not sure if we would be back. The wine menu was not impressive at all especially for $17 a glass.
I had high hopes for our night at Madison however the experience unfortunately fell short. Our server was very nice but seemed spread thin, when we finally got our first round of drinks a second was never offered so we all just drank water after. Our meals were all just mediocre, everything came out like warm or even cold but came out fast, less than 10 min from ordering everyone had their main course so it felt like everything was pre cooked and just waiting in a warmer or the window to go out to tables. The atmosphere is incredible, very cool spot but unfortunately not a great visit for our group.
We made reservations for inside to celebrate a birthday. Ten minutes in, they asked us to move outside for another group to take our seats. We initially said no, but they kept insisting. "Then what's the point of reservations?" There was plenty of space inside since it was 10:30 am. Food was 6 out of 10. Waitress was great( which is why they got the second star). Just poor management . Menu online doesn't match what's available at the restaurant. A one and done experience. Not welcoming..
