Opinions de Maritza's Mexican Food San Diego
Food is good and the restaurant owner's are amazing people. Please support this family owned business. The food won't disappoint you.
Really good home style Mexican food. Everything is prepared fresh and done well. It's a family operation. They put their love into each dish. It's kind of off the main streets but well worth the search. Cash only. Try the house made salsa, careful it can be hot. Call in a phone order if you would rather dine at home.
I would have to say that they serve the best Mexican food in San Diego. Their portion sizes are great, the service is wonderful, the prices are good. It's a family owned place and they make you feel like family. I love going there. The only thing you have to make sure of is to take cash. Oh and an empty stomach!
Our neighborhood go to for a quick dinner. very fresh and authentic. Chicken enchilada plate is our favorite. Chimichanga is great. Menu offers excellent value overall. Phone gets very busy at peak hours.
Great food 4 years and running, nice people run it, consistently GREAT home made hot sauce and a local community supporter. Their chicken tacos have become addicting and my wife loves their sopes. Carmen is always pleasant and we will refer all of our friends and family members here. Just give them a try if you've never been.
Always amazing food and service! The best carne Asada and best salsa
Super friendly staff which goes a long way with me. It was my first visit and I had the crispy chicken tacos with their awesome salsa. The chicken was really tasty, homemade tortillas were a rare plus, and I'll be back.
My favorite is the 3 roll beef tacos with cheese and guacamole and a side of rice and beans. The BEST rice and beans with their homemade salsa!
Love this no frills great Mexican food restaurant. The Chile rellenos are excellent and I wish their carnitas were on the menu more often, Wednesday special only and do they fly out of here. I haven’t had anything here that I didn’t like, they don’t do California burritos so if that’s what you’re looking for you won’t find it here. Pretty much old school Mexican food but man it’s good! Helpful note this place is cash only. There is liquor store 4 shops down with an ATM .
Incredible! Been going here for years and unfortunately out of state. So good, I fly back, and this is always the first stop ♥️
Maritzas is a long standing favorite of mine. We have been going for years. We have yet to order something that is not awesome. Carmen and the whole family are kind, welcoming and great people. If you are looking to support a local, family run establishment, this is a no-brainer. Affordable and consistent.
I have been enjoying this humble little spot for over 25 years. Fantastic carne asada, chicken enchiladas, tamales, and rolled tacos. The real kicker is their hot sauce, which is just hot enough, with complex flavors - second to none!
The food is amazing, and the staff. Definitely a must visit if your not from San diego and if you are a local worth the drive because it's worth it. I promise you won't be disappointed with anything on the menu. Go support this family owned business 🙌 and may their business continue to prosper and be blessed 🙏
Great fish taco and hard shell beef or chicken tacos.
I can't eat a chicken enchilada any place else as the chicken enchiladas and the red enchilada sauce at Maritzas are the best that I have found! I'll be honest.I haven't really ordered much else because I love the enchiladas so much , but my friend's order and Love many of the other dishes. Carmen is amazingly sweet! Cash only! It's in a small strip center. Easy parking
Really enjoyed the sope, chile relleno and enchilada.
Maritza’s has been my favorite for 15 years. Lots of taco shops in town but Maritza’s isn’t a taco shop. It’s like having a Mexican family member. Food is quality and cooked to order. So be prepared to wait. My personal favorite is the #8. Cannot go wrong with the Carne asada or chicken tacos. Don’t pass on the salsa. Maritza’s never disappoints.
Maritza's Mexican Food in San Diego is a family-run establishment that emphasizes a friendly dining environment. The menu offers a range of traditional Mexican dishes, prepared with attention to authenticity. While some may find the flavors to be quite enjoyable, tastes may vary, and personal preferences play a significant role in the overall dining experience. The staff at Maritza's is attentive, providing assistance with menu selections if needed. Service is GREAT, contributing to the overall positive atmosphere. Overall, Maritza's Mexican Food offers a decent option for those seeking Mexican cuisine in San Diego. It's a suitable place for a casual meal, and many patrons have recommended it for its tasty food and family-friendly vibe.
Extremely flavorful Carna Asada burritos that pair great with the homemade salsa. The hole in the wall no frills atmosphere along with the warm and welcoming staff make it that perfect Mexican joint. I have yet to try the elusive carnitas, but looking forward to when I do. Put this place as a must try for San Diego Mexican food, and bring cash!
I was a teenager the first time I went to this restaurant. Recently I asked my guy if he'd ever gone there. He's now a Wednesday regular (that's when they have Carnitas). He picked some up and brought them over for dinner tonight. They are indescribably delicious. I can't believe I never tried them before. He says there's no other place that makes them so good.
Tucked away, this hidden gem is the best there is. Carmen and her family have been feeding ours for over 30 years, and we've never had a bad meal yet. There's nothing but love and authenticity in every delicious bite....and their sauce over the top with flavor.
The atmosphere, for me, is that we have a family business that is serving the neighborhood and has been for some time. We love the family vibe. We generally take out. Maritza's Mexican food is at the top of the list for us. The machaca burrito is the best in town.
I ordered two different plates (two beef tacos and a beef tamale with a Chile relleno). I ate, two beef tacos plate with rice and beans. The beans were delicious with their perfect seasoning and I really loved the chips that you have to scoop the beans with. The rice is well seasoned and not your average rice. It is overcooked in the best was and an amazing companion to the beans. The tacos were crunchy, meaty and cheesy. The homemade hot salsa was heavenly and I put it on all of the components of my meal. Yes, I will be going to Maritza's again very soon. I still have so many items on the cash only menu to try.
I was impressed by the flavor. Everything tasted home made and fresh. A true hidden gem. With tamales!
Great food. Chicken is real shredded chicken. Best Chile Relleno and salsa is always fresh. We always order take out. It is a small family run restaurant seating is limited.
Grew up eating here in this neighborhood taco shop. I love their crispy beef tacos, chili relleno, bean tostadas, beans, guacamole, and salsa. Actually, everything here is good. Good home-cooked food by an exceptional family.
Best Mexican food out of a small shop with tables to eat in or carry out. Reasonable prices. My favorite place when we come back to San Diego for a visit. The rolled tacos with guacamole we had for lunch were excellent. We ordered chili rellenos to go for dinner later. They didn’t disappoint.
the lady at the front desk was so kind and sweet. she makes such a caring atmosphere. each and every customer is important to her. thanks so much for the food
Maritza’s is our favorite Mexican Restaurant. My brother loves to come for Carnitas Wednesdays as so many others. We dine in and many of the to go orders seemed to be the Wednesday Carnitas. I like many of the dishes, taco plates, enchiladas and other combo plates. Our favorite thing that brings us here is the homemade salsa that Carmen makes every day. You can see her chopping the chili peppers and blending the delicious salsa. Many people also comment on the their salsa. The location is a little hidden in the south west area of Clairemont off of Mt Acadia in a little strip mall. The building is also set back off Mt Acadia so you need to drive to the back of parking lot entrance. It is worth going there. It is a hidden gem of Mexican Food and many of the customers are regulars which Carmen knows most by name and she knows what they normally order. She and her mom , also named Carmen are so nice and attentive. If you haven’t been there , it is a must try, highly recommended.
What a place. Very old school. Great people with great food. I got the asada chimichanga, and it was perfect. It's cash only, but worth it. Ordered by phone and they said okay, 21 minutes, and they weren't lying. 21 minutes later the order was ready.
Get ready for some authentic Mexican food. This little off the beaten path place has got true Mexican flavors. Eating these tacos was like going back in time to my days of home cooked tacos. The salsa is homemade and delicious. A little kick to bring some zing to your meal. The staff are friendly. We really enjoyed our two taco plate with beans and rice.
Their chicken enchiladas are very flavorful, just like mom's homemade food. The same is true with the chili relleno. I think it's the refried beans that make it all delicious.
Delicious food, friendly service and very reasonable prices, just bring cash. Love it here.
I had the chicken nachos, which is not on the menu. They were delicious, the chicken was seasoned very well and my chips stayed crunchy.
First time here, was surprised on how busy it was I had too wait an hour for my food so be aware that it busy. Food was very good, owner's very nice. Cash only for this place.

Very popular, small local, Mexican food restaurant in a strip mall. This family owned business has been here for many years. I first came here over 30 years ago. The decor isn't fancy but the food is delicious. If you are wanting great Mexican food at reasonable prices you won't be disappointed. It can be busy but the wait is worth it.
You can tell they make their food with love. Living in San Diego, we eat mexican food almost every week. Maritza’s is our go to. The house salsa is sooooo fresh and delicious.
Excellent blend of ingredients and flavors which you want from a hard shell taco. It's next level of quality from the usual taquerias. The taco shell was crispy, not greasy or oily, with flavorful shredded beef. Their beans and rice are delicious as well. You can tell they care.
Family friendly, wonderful, extremely delicious food, fabulous customer service, nearly authentic (except the cheddar cheese). My family has been coming here for decades. Accessible (ramp to get up to the restaurant is further to the left of the restaurant). The food is so good that family that's moved out of state comes at least once, sometimes twice or more, when visiting and buy extra on their last day in town so they can take it with them back home. Such a lovely family cherished friends. They treat all their customers like family. It always feels like coming home for comfort food wrapped in a joyful hug. Try it. You'll love it. Bring cash!
Food was very good!! I highly recommend. Take cash as they don't accept other forms of payment
One of the few places that actually grills their carne asada over a wood-fired parilla. You can taste the difference. The guacamole and salsa is super fresh and the perfect accompaniment. You can tell everything is made by hand with love and tradition. Best carne asada burritos in the county.
I hadn't regularly kept cash on me for years until I moved nearby Maritza's. They only accept cash and that's my only gripe. The food is amazing!
Let's just say my husband and I make 2 day trips to come to San Diego from Austin BECAUSE of this place. We are officially moving to San Diego in a few months so we can eat it all the time. It's the best Mexican place I've ever been to and I've been to many.
Love this place. Very humble setting and high quality food. Definitely one of the best Mexican restaurants in San Diego. Things to know: cash only, big parking lot, closed Sundays. I will absolutely be back again and again and again.

if you eat a gluten free diet, you cannot eat their carne asada fries which are seasoned with wheat flour. Otherwise, some of the best Mexican food in town and best fresh salsa by far. I wish their carne asada fries weren’t seasoned curly fries, just regular fries.
Nice Mexican food but quite pricey (carne asada around $20 for that plate) but they have other cheaper plates and options. The paper plate got sliced through while I was slicing the beef steak but the food was overall quite nice. Especially enjoyed the guacamole and salsa and putting everything on the tortilla to make taco.

I love the food here so much, and I'm so sad to write a bad review. But... $7.00 for a bean and cheese burrito is just robbery at this point. In no is beans, cheese, and a tortilla worth $7.00. I guess bean and cheese burritos are considered a luxury food item now sadly. In this economy, I cant afford to eat here anymore. Sad to say the other day was my last day here, and I've been coming for years. Sad times we are living in thats for sure.
I ordered Fish tacos..they were made from Gordon's Fish Sticks 1 in each taco sucked, beans & rice tasteless $15.00 not worth it. Tamale and cheese enchilada the cheese tasted fake, the whole thingtasted like crap...the robbery happened 2yr ago.
