Came here on a Friday night and we were able to get seated right away. They had a new Soju Slush drink which was very tasty and got a couple orders of different types of sushi. The atmosphere is pretty good, but a little basic but good for a simple date night.

So, this might be my favorite sushi place EVER!! I went with a friend this past weekend and we ordered the spring special, which included a combination of 4 rolls, we also ordered a baked roll, and one regular roll. Everything was incredibly fresh & flavorful! And the prices are very reasonable for the quality. We arrived right before dinner time and were able to get seated right away. Additionally, our waitress was kind and attentive. I’ll definitely be back!

Incredible experience! We came in 30 minutes before close but didn’t feel rushed at all. The food was amazing of course. Our server (Tasha? Tonya? I’m sorry I forgot your name 😭) was lovely and incredibly kind. After we explained we were in town because we evacuated from LA due to the fires, she paid our bill for our group of 3, which was not an insignificant amount. Even though we’re from out of town, we definitely felt the love. 12/10 experience, I’ll absolutely be coming back when I get the chance.

Stopped here with my bestie as our last meal in San Diego before heading home. We got there a few minutes before 5 when they open and there were already a few parties waiting which seemed like a good sign on a Monday dinner. We were served very quickly which was great because we were hungry. Everything was good and the prices were great. We got monkey brains and three rolls.

This place is good, that much is definitely not up for debate. I’m not from the area so I don’t frequent this spot often, but it’s one of those places where you can expect the food to be delicious for a reasonable price which is a god send in an area as expensive as Hillcrest. The service is good, our servers were kind throughout our time there. The decor is chic and the restaurant just feels very homey and inviting. The miso was actually really good, although I’d never eating one like this with all the floaters of god knows what, but it was tasty. For rolls, my friend did a classic crunchy, and I opted for the sushi combo with the eel, rainbow, and crunchy rolls so I could have a variety taste test. We also split a chicken fried rice, and I gotta say this was one of the most satisfying sushi meals I’ve had in a while. The rolls were nothing crazy, but at this price I wasn’t expecting a life changer but I can appreaciate that they were all yummy and didn’t leave me with that “I gotta eat that because I payed for it” feeling when your underwhelmed by a roll. That friend rice was very tasty actually, and both me and friend will definitely be back to try out some more adventurous rolls now that the kitchen had passed our preliminary tests. Come here, and try it yourself because for the price you won’t be getting much better sushi anywhere else in SD. OVERALL DAYGOEATS CERTIFIED✅✅✅

My only thing negative is the parking but once you get past that everything else is awesome. Service is always great, bartenders super nice and helpful just like the waiters and the food is always on point. Been coming here for years and will continue to come here. Tried about 6 different rolls all good. Enjoyed the lemon pepper edamame and the sushi deli fries is always a must. Try it out if you’re in the area.

Loved the Monday happy hour here! The food was delicious, the service was welcoming and the atmosphere and good! The portion sizes were really and the value for money was fair. I really recommend the sashimi and the gyozas! It was great to see that regulars were returning and collecting their stamps. We forgot to get our stamped, so we’ll definitely be back!

Delicious! I am vegetarian and its really difficult to find sushi places with vegetarian options. They have lots of options and all amazing. Tried bee hive, mango tango without salmon and mango punch. Service is great as well. Its not expensive at all

I’ve never experienced bad service at this location like NEVER!!! until today, I went there at around 2 pm and since we walked in the hostess barely said hi, we were a party of three and she only gave us one menu!!! The server was no different she had this dense attitude, she looked mad at the world and somehow made it seem like we were an inconvenience for her, it was a weird experience, we got our food and everything was delicious, I asked for the check, I paid, left a tip (which I kinda regret doing) and I said thank you and she just walked over to the next table, no “thanks” or “have a good day”, I noticed when she went to the other table her attitude completely changed, she seemed happy and outgoing even laughing, so I dont know what her problem was, but she made it VERY obvious that she was not ok with helping us today, I do not expect servers to put up a show for us or even go above and beyond, but this girl made our experience awkward, I just hope I don’t get her as a server again!!! We love sushi deli and I won’t let this bad experience change the way we feel about this establishment.

Sushi Deli 1 (San Diego) is honestly hit or miss. When it’s good, it’s really good but it’s never quite perfect, especially when they’re busy. During peak hours, consistency drops, orders take longer, and attention to detail can slip. The value is still solid, and it can be a great experience on a slower day, but if you come during a rush, expect variability. Worth it, just manage expectations.

I think there may be a misunderstanding what this place is. It is not a sushi bar, it is an American bar that serves sushi rolls and… tacos and some other stuff. So, depending on what you think it is you may be happy or greatly disappointed. Let’s first look from American bar perspective - good selection of tap beers. Tacos and other stuff on the menu. Large selection of American sushi rolls, and sets, large portions, pretty affordable, staff trained to ask “how you are doing” all the time, cleanness level of a dive bar. Second, let’s look from a sushi restaurant perspective - the key to good sushi is rice preparation. This one is a fail. Nigiri was a a dense ball of rise clogging your mouth. I would suggest the owners to send their chefs for a professional sushi rice preparation training. Fish was fresh indeed, but that is given if you want to serve sushi. One major issue. The place is dirty. There is a layer of dust on the booths. The baby booster we were given, basics glued to my hands with its oily surface. Similarly the tables were wiped but still sticky. Suggestion to owners is to sometimes run a finger across the flat surfaces and see what’s left on the finger.

I’ve been coming here with my family for years, I order here all the time and I did a Togo order and they tried to charge me for Sriracha sauce which is literally free when you dine there, I think that’s so weird. I feel like they treated me bad because I did not tip upfront I always tip after I receive my Togo order but I didn’t like the way they treated me, so no tip. The manager wasn't very welcoming or nice. I really loved this place but this interaction made me want to not come back…. Update on my review we got sick and our stomachs hurt really bad and we’ve been on the toilet all night and morning. Never will eat here again.
