Opinions de Tahini San Diego
We went to this place because my husband felt like having Shawarma and I also wanted to try Middle Eastern food. The place was clean, and the lady taking orders at the front was friendly. Although they were busy in the kitchen at lunchtime, the food didn't take long to wait, which was nice. The food was great, and we will definitely go back for sure!
Terrific, simple restaurant. A not-overly-complicated menu for a change! A sandwich, a grain bowl, a salad! Three choices of protein, including one for plant based eaters. Customize and build from scratch with a generous (but not overwhelming) list of sauces and add-ins, or choose from a curated representation of each menu item, no effort required! We will definitely be adding Tahini to our rotation!
This location is a slice of cultural variety that survived the hardships of the early 2020s, which was no small feat. I think I tried to support them for almost half a year, visiting them each day at one point during the height of the pandemic lol. Primarily, the soul and spirit of Tahini remains kindled by Mahmoud and Osama (two of the genuinely kindest people I have had the privilege of meeting). Please support the businesses that you like coloring your neighborhoods. The playlist for the background music is excellent, food is tasty, and decor on point. Stop by with an open mind and relax in the chill atmosphere. Many of the locals appear to gather there for chats, but they have plenty of room for new visitors from pretty much all backgrounds (you). Here is an opportunity to add more flavors to your life.
Went there for dinner with a couple friends after work, and it was a pretty solid experience overall. The place had a relaxed vibe, not too loud, and the staff explained the menu without rushing us. I ordered a mixed grill platter and everything tasted fresh, especially the rice and bread. Portions were fair for the price, not huge but filling enough. Service was mostly smooth, though our drinks came a little later than expected, which wasn’t a big issue. The flavors were balanced and not overly spicy, which I appreciated. It felt like a good spot for a casual meal, nothing flashy, just dependable food and a comfortable atmosphere. I’d go back if I was in the area again.
Always get food to go, so no rankings for atmosphere. Healthy and delicious for my vegetarian family. Great food to pick up when we’re too busy to cook and don’t want to eat crappy fast food. Love the house-made falafel, hummus and sauces.
Wow genuinely the most delicious food I’ve had in a very long time. I love Mediterranean food and have had it all over SD. This place easily earns its spot among the best. I made my own. I love all the ingredients and even the bbq tahini was such a nice surprise.
My first time to Tahini and I ordered the falafel. They were perfectly crunchy on the exterior and tender on the inside. You can tell they use fresh ingredients and authentic herbs. The pita is fresh baked and the sauces delicious. This is a must try for authentic Middle Eastern food! I must mention how clean the restaurant was. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. I highly recommend! Enjoy!!
TAHINI! Hands down THE MOST AUTHENTIC and BEST TASTING Arabic food in San Diego. The competition doesn't even come close. I love the way the meat is seasoned, the sauces and literally everything on the menu is delicious. I can speak on the authenticity as an Egyptian American who grew up on this food cooked in my home- I feel like I am eating in my mama's kitchen! The staff is top notch too- they are friendly, professional and they remember repeat customers! They even know our little alterations. (triple parsley mix for me!) If we are going to eat out, my son only wants to go to Tahini every time! Whenever we learn of friends who haven't tried eating at Tahini, we bring them there and they are instantly hooked! My only complaint is that they haven't opened another Tahini next door to my home so I can walk there and eat whenever I want. LOL Just sayin! We will be customers for life. THANK YOU TEAM TAHINI
Whenever I take a trip down to San Diego, I always look forward to dining at this fantastic restaurant. The freshness of the food is truly impressive, making every meal a delightful experience. My personal favorite dish is the "make my own bowl," 🥣 🥣 🥣 where I can customize my ingredients to perfection. Each component is seasoned just right, creating a harmonious explosion of flavors with every bite. Today was particularly special, as I had the opportunity to chat with one of the owners, Moody. He is an incredibly friendly gentleman, exuding warmth and hospitality. I expressed my thoughts to him, mentioning how much I would love to see a location open up in Oceanside. He listened attentively, and it was clear he values customer feedback, making the experience even more enjoyable.
Wow. I am in love. This food is incredible! The Pitas and the Loaded Fries are wonderful. The flavors were just amazing and somehow very strong without overpowering each other. I always love pickled vegetables in my food but sometimes it takes over and that’s all you taste. But here you could taste each flavor of each item and enjoy every one! The menu is simple and easy to understand, but the possibilities are endless. You choose your base; either pita, rice or salad. And then a protein, sauces, and additions like veggies or cheese. I went with the pita which was to die for! It’s made fresh right on site and was so fluffy and delicious. And then I got it stuffed with chicken, onions, parsley mix, pickled cucumbers, pickled turnips, garlic sauce and spicy tahini sauce. My mouth is watering again just thinking about how delicious it was ;) My mom loved her creation too and we already started planning our next visit! The place is so cute and the workers were all so sweet and helpful. Our food was made in record time too! And the prices were so good, especially considering how fresh the ingredients were. The owners are sweethearts and really care about their place and the customers which makes the whole experience even better. I can’t wait to come back and enjoy my next amazing meal!
An excellent experience. I went in super hungry, told the guy at the cashier what kind of food I normally like and he made a tailored recommendation for me. Then I got the food and it was delicious! It's simple fresh deliciously seasoned food. It's the kind of local spot where when someone asks you, "Hey why don't we go to [chain restaurant]" you respond, "Why would we go there when we can go to Tahini for less money and have better food?!?" Cannot recommend this place enough.
Great Middle Eastern food from Tahini! We ordered the esquire pita, build your own pita sandwich, beef sambusa. All tasted really good. Loved the restaurant decor and ambiance. Very friendly staff. Indoor and outdoor seating. You can also put in your order online for pick up or delivery. Recommend.
Wow. Visiting from out of town. However, it did not feel that way at all. The moment we walked in we were welcomed. My brother is special-needs. And we felt nothing but kindness from the staff. Thank you so much to this location for providing such a beautiful atmosphere, friendly environment, and amazing food. We already can’t wait to be in San Diego again to try All the other options.
I visited Tahini in San Diego around 11:30 AM, and it was already busy, which shows how popular it is. The food was amazing! I think they make their own pita bread, and everything tasted so fresh. I ordered the M.T.W., and it was delicious. My daughter got the Esquire Pita, and she absolutely loved it. Great flavors and a lively atmosphere. I’ll definitely be back!
I'm from Los Angeles... and we do have good food no doubt. but this is a whole different level.... seriously best sandwich i have ever had in my life. I'm a chef who worked with celebrity chefs ... I am a le cordon bleu graduate so I know good food and trust this is it. flavors on point.... textures on point 👉 kitchen culture on point 👉.... this place smacks. I'm shocked they don't have locations everywhere 🫡 good job guys 👍 i will be bringing my friends and family from Los Angeles to try out this Gem 💎 ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS 😋
Finally we got to try this place and it was amazing! We came here for lunch at a weekday. There isn’t a line at 11:30 but there are more people coming in later on. I ordered a Falafel Salad bowl and my husband had a Steak Pita sandwich. Both of them are so delicious. I highly recommend my falafel, it is very yummy. The restaurant is clean and bright, the seats are comfortable. I’m very happy with this experience.
The food was pretty amazing but if you quote a time, it should be somewhere in the realm of that time. My food was set to be ready at 12:51pm. I put the order in at 12:30, think ok no problem 20+ mins for the order (1 rice bowl) I didn’t receive my order til 1:15pm. Just not a good 1st experience. Food made up for it a little bit, but still wouldn’t wanna wait 45 for food like that again!
I ordered online for pickup and got a completely different pita than what i ordered. Unfortunately I picked up in a hurry and didn't notice until I got back to work and didn't have time to drive back/ wait for correct order. I ordered a pita with steak, lettuce, onions, pepperoncinis, shredded cheese, feta cheese and a side of almonds. It was packaged neatly in a paper bag with my name and order, but the pita i received had chicken, fries, tomatoes, parsley mix, pickles, basically everything i didn't pick haha. I do think it was an honest mistake, probably just misplaced someone else's order into my bag, but I was pretty bummed. Also paid an extra dollar for the steak that i didn't get. I did get my side of almonds though. After removing the pickles, I ate it anyway and it was just ok, but then again it didn't have any of the ingredients or sauces that I picked.
It was the first time to visit, it’s a good place, the vibes and the service is great. We ordered shawarma chicken and steak, the food wasn’t not bad but the garlic sauce was so weird we didn’t like it. The big issue was with the samosas, I got the beef one it was horrible. The beef has no taste and the dough was burned with better taste. We paid around $80 for 4 orders which is a little bit pricey regarding the quality. I just wanted to edit my review to thank the Restaurant owner who contacted me and tried to make everything right. I explained all of my experience and he was very professional and helpful. He also offered me a gift card . Thank you so much and I know you will be very successful.
I ordered a steak rice bowl with lettuce and tomato, it was fresh and juicy. It was the first time I eat middle east food. I love it. A restaurant staff was kind for me who don't know any menu, how to order. Every seat is clean. Almost perfect but there was just 1 problem, water server was empty, so I was able to get brock ice.
Food was just alright. The portion is quite small. My husband and I ordered different toppings and sauces but we received the exact same toppings and sauces for our meals. Felt like the kitchen didn’t care to read what each of us wanted for the add-ons and sauces. I was hoping the pita bread was warm and fresh but it came out cold and hard. Overall, it was just an alright meal. I wouldn’t recommend.
My friends and I ate lunch here yesterday. Unfortunately, later that evening and into the night, all of us experienced diarrhea. We did not eat anything else after this meal, so this restaurant was the only common factor. We are sharing this to make others aware and to encourage the restaurant to review their food handling and hygiene practices. We hope this is taken seriously and improved.
We have been regulars for years, but the quality has been rapidly decreasing lately (ironically as prices rise and locations expand). Frequent mistakes with orders, sloppy work etc. Two times in a row my wife asked for pickled turnips but got pickles. Yesterday, we arrived 30 minutes before closing (7:30). The bowls we ordered were room temperature; fries stale; chicken lukewarm and gristly; almonds cold and burnt. It felt like the employees were getting ready to close, and just gave us the leftover stuff. The meat had already been taken off the spit; my guess is that we just got whatever chunks were still sitting there at room temp. The almonds and fries were probably from a batch made earlier and rather than fire up a new one so close to closing, they figured just throw it on there. If you stay open to 8, then keep the same quality until 8. Don’t start shutting everything down at 7:30 just because you want to go home early. And don’t sacrifice quality in the name of expansion. This used to be a great local spot, but as is often the case, the allure of more locations and revenues has the owners focusing their attention elsewhere.
