Opinions de Tokyo Sushi Loha San Diego
Hands down the best sushi in the college area. You might be able to find places that are a dollar or two less per roll, but they won't be nearly as good as Tokyo. Definitely worth it.
Best quality sushi i have tasted! Premium quality fish, TOP SHELF !! and prices are very affordable and competitive compared to other shops. Only thing i dont like is the 18% gratuity added for more then 6 people , we were 4 adults and 2 kids both under 3 & kids just ordered drinks & we were still charged gratuity :/
Food was amazing and the fish was so fresh. Atmosphere was great, lasers were cool, music wasn’t too loud, the service was amazing, only took 10 minutes to get seated during rush hour(dinner), the college student behind the counter was literally working the entire establishment so props to him, and also props to the bartender for being really helpful on choosing dishes.
The first thing that hits you when you enter is the lasers... Yes, lasers. The place feels like a nightclub, but a bright and relatively classy one. I went on a Saturday night with the wife and my two young kids. The kids loved playing in the laser lights near the waiting area. Once we were seated, service was relatively quick and we ordered a roll and a couple chicken plates. The prices were very reasonable for what we received. The roll I ordered was presented beautifully and tasted amazing. My wife's meal was also delicious. If you are fine with loud, pumping dance music, then the overall experience will be great. If loud club music is not your thing, you might want to look elsewhere for a quiet meal.
The food is good for the price. The service is very nice. They help me when I needed them to help but didn't bother me when I didn't want to help. I appreciate the respect as a disabled person.
Aleida is the best server love the sushi good value
Staff was short today so it took some time to order our food but the wait is always worth it. FYI they currently close at 9pm during the week.
This is one of my favorite sushi places. The presentation of the food is awesome but the food is always so fresh and delicious. Everyone that works there are always so friendly, love that they also play good music while eating that's always a plus for me. Is just a very nice environment overall. You definitely have to try it.
Service was quick and inviting! Food tasted fresh and flavorful. Definitely worth the visit.
This is definitely one of my favorite places for sushi! The food is delicious from the Miso to the delectable rolls, your stomach will not be disappointed! The staff is friendly as well as the guys at the bar. The atmosphere here is welcoming. They greet you as soon as you walk into this casual setting. The music playing make you feel like you're just chilling at home eating amazing food.
I love this place!! It is so clean and the sushi is so high quality. I only called in for pick up but the customer service was through the roof! Pinky is so sweet!! You guys should definitely give this place a go 10/10
The sushi was incredibly fresh and delicious, with a great variety of rolls to choose from. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, perfect for a night out. The staff were friendly and attentive, making sure we had everything we needed.
Perfect amount of portions! They celebrated my birthday by getting me and my mom a free mochi and a non alcoholic beer for me!
Aleida was an excellent server for my meal 10/10!
Great food and selection ! We had a poke bowl , sushi roll and bento box so everyone was happy !
Great service from Aleida , really good sushi and I also enjoyed the music.
Even the take out the take time to pack it nicely and very organized so the food does not spill Tokyo sushi is a local gem I love the Alaska roll :) aleada the best server
Love this place , aleina is the best server ! The food is on point and fish is fresh Thank you for being consistent Wish they would still give miso soup in the chicken teri bento combo
I have loved this place for years! Best sushi and such good service, Never disappointed. & Aleida is the best server :p
I have been coming here for years. The sushi is always fresh and so flavorful. Nice atmosphere. I love their Seafood and Sashimi salads. I haven’t found anything like it elsewhere.
The food was great the service was great. A really nice touch was when the owner walked around to every table introduced herself and asked how our meal went and if we needed anything. You don't see that very much anymore.
Miss this place already after moving. Went back a bit ago but honestly it's the best sushi per dollar I can get in town. Their portion sizes are nice and big and their fish is always delicious. I was craving it after two weeks in Europe and trying the sushi there. (What's with European sushi places and using mayonnaise or mayonnaise based sauces on everything?) Either way it didn't disappoint. Made sure to go as soon as I slept off my 30 hours of flights back to San Diego for a reason! The lemon roll is my absolute favorite.
This is our favorite sushi spot. The sushi is always very fresh and good quality. The service is always attentive and friendly. The ambience is fun with music and lights, and the prices are very reasonable. Our favorite roles are the Rainbow Roll and the Spicy Tuna. Our kids love the Miso Soup and the chicken teriyaki kids plates
This place is great. I used to eat here when they were down the street. Same great quality but even better now. The Lemon Roll was super and the Sashimi Salad was incredible. Both tasted fresh and the presentation was 100% spot on. Took mine to go and was still excellent when I got home. 5 Stars 🌟 Sorry about the half eaten Sashimi Salad photo. I decided to do a review after it was really delicious.
I was staying at a nearby hotel and found this gem of a sushi joint. First off I am a bit of an iced tea snob and had some great freshly brewed passion fruit tea. Had the spicy edamame and three rolls. Edamame is great! Awesome flavor and a unique twist on a sometimes boring dish. Had a spicy tuna roll, CATS roll and Hot Kiss roll. The Hot Kiss is the best roll I've ever had. The salsa on top is a genius add giving a plethora of flavors that are typically not found in your average sushi experience. A great spot for sushi and will be bring many back there with me when I head back to the area.
Our go to place. The chefs make some great specialty sushi. Edamame portions are BIG
Food was delicious, service was extraordinary! We originally went somewhere else that was closed, so searched and found this gem. Everything we ordered was delicious, but it was the amazing service that really impressed me. I even got a great winged eyeliner tip! Will definitely be back! Thank you!
The food was quite good. Sashimi presentation and freshness were both on point. Service was attentive without being bothersome. The only drawback to it being an outstanding experience was the idiot ladies with the out of control 3 year old sitting behind me. Would recommend and will certainly go back again.
I love this place, sushi is delicious!Kenny is owner there his a artist of sushi,he can create anything what you want, his crew very knowled as well ,good team work!I wish they can open the bar area ,it was my favourite place to eat.I took pictures of lobster bake rolls it is my signature dish there!
My wife and I recently moved to the El Cerrito area, and Tokyo Sushi Loha has quickly become our go-to spot! We’ve been coming almost every weekend, and it never disappoints. The staff is friendly, the service is quick, and we’ve never waited more than a few minutes for a table. The food is consistently delicious, and we’re thrilled to have such a fantastic sushi place so close to our new home!
The best sushi I have tried in san diego, even in tijuana you can't find the same flavor, actually all the food from this places is very delicious and not even expensive! Also very nice people work there. Of course 100% recommended!
Had a not so stellar experience once, but have been back since and have been totally blown away with how the owner was able to turn things around. Guaranteed will be back, the fish is the highest quality
Ordered through doordash, looking to try a new Sushi spot rather than my usual stomping grounds. Tokyo Sushi Loha did not disappoint. The Salmon & Salmon Belly sashimi were pristine and thick cuts, well worth the money spent. The Catapillar Roll & Lemon Rolls were by far my newest favorites. Next time we will be going in person!
Went here because my barber recommended it and wow, such a great spot for happy hour. I got the shrimp tempura crunch roll and steamed beef gyoza, they were not only delicious but also fresh. The owner was also super nice and chatted with me while I waited for my food. Definitely would recommend!
Great food, great atmosphere. Way too many wait staff asking if we had been helped or if we needed anything. Ultimately not a big problem. Would absolutely go again.
I have lived just a few blocks away for years, and never came in. What an idiot, for years I settled for grocery store sushi. Anyway, my DIL and I came in a few days ago and my tummy (and taste buds) went to heaven! We came again today with her parents (Japanese) and Tokyo Sushi Loha wowed everyone! Four relaxed and very happy people giving 5 stars. I didn’t get today's server so I can't brag about him (he was very good), two days ago Alida knocked it out of the park! What we ate all got 5 STARS! Mango rice, shrimp fried rice, gyoza, calamari, dragon roll, California roll, and the salmon collar.... which was delish. Best part it was on sale, so get in quick! Today is Dec 3q, 2025! Happy eating, BTW SDSU students get 10% discount!
One of the servers was so friendly and funny! The food was also so good and exceeded expectations. I had really been craving uni nigiri and ordered some, it satisfied my craving. I also enjoyed the two rolls I got- one was the Rose Roll and the other was the Baking in the Sun roll. They were both so delicious. I would definitely come back here. I also liked the homey cozy comfy vibe. And the head chef had a very vivacious and lively personality which made the dining experience fun.
My wife mentioned she had tried this restaurant long ago as we drove by it on the boulevard. Curious, we gave it a try and it’s now my go-to place for Sushi. Sushi in Sandy Eggo has been hit and mostly miss for us lately, but this is literally the best I have ever had and the price is reasonable. The fish is fresh, tasty and plated with diligent artistry. The service is prompt, friendly, and attentive. I almost didn’t want to review it because if people find out about it, it will be packed. However they have been so good to us that I figured I should. It may look non-de script but this place is the best.
This was our first time visiting this establishment, and we’re so glad we did. It has the warm, welcoming feel of a family-owned restaurant, and the experience exceeded our expectations. The senior chef behind the counter truly stood out with his thoughtful attention to every guest, especially in how he went out of his way to make sure even the toddlers were enjoying their visit. The tempura dishes we ordered were absolutely delicious! Crispy, fresh, and full of flavor. This spot is definitely one we’ll be revisiting on our next trip to San Diego.
From service to ambiance to the food and the drinks, this is a 5 star all around. We went for a friend's anniversary and thought about getting the sushi boat but wanted different rolls. Without us asking, they placed our order on a boat. The staff was also very friendly the entirety of our stay. The sushi was fresh and delicious and the sake bombs were plentiful and inexpensive. Definitely a recommendation for special events and any day you're feeling sushi!
This place is such a hidden gem. Our sushi chef Aidon was hilarious, extremely talented, and so kind. This instantly became our go to sushi spot in the area. The quality of fish is superb. They have a great mix of classic and modern dishes. We'll be returning again next week with friends because we had such a wonderful date night. Highly recommend!
Amazing sushi! Not only is the fish always fresh, but they use such great innovative sauces to really bring out new flavors in their sushi rolls. Hands down my favorite sushi place! They have great and fast service, a fun environment, and everyone says goodbye to you when you are walking out, it feels like you are a celebrity! I got the rainbow roll and it is amazing! I normally use this roll to compare sushi restaurants and this was the best I’ve had!
Food was really good lacked service though. They were very nice and polite but only came to the table 3 times for the 3 hours we were there.
This should be a 3.5 star review but I’m rounding up. The website didn’t match the menu so when I finished my order the price was $10 higher than what I was expecting which bummed me out. The flavor of the food was fine and the portions were adequate. Nothing stellar, nothing terrible. I probably wouldn’t come back here as there are better sushi places around town. To their credit it looks like it would be a better experience if I could sit down in it like the olden days.
The food and service is fantastic. Food is made with fresh ingredients, and you can tell it is all made to order. The only reason I took off a star is because they play music at a very loud volume, making it hard to have a conversation and enjoy the meal. The music selection is good, but the restaurant is like being in a nice night club where instead of a dance floor, there are dining tables where you can order excellent sushi.
The sushi rolls were good but all of them were very wet with different sweet sauces. The sashimi was awesome, large pieces of fish and very fresh. I wish their menu had more info about the sauces that come on the rolls.
I’ve only eaten here once, but it was the best seaweed salad I’ve ever had in my life. It was on top of cucumbers, as seen in photo, super good combo! I didn’t love their version of the California roll though because it was like krab salad, lots of mayonnaise. I prefer just the krab stick in my roll. Anyway, good place for lunch!
Was so looking forward to eating here I met up with my friend whom I haven't seen in over 30 years and it was extremely hot inside very uncomfortable and made it just all bad
Great atmosphere, apps were great but I literally cannot trust a place that waters down their soy sauce(or uses any brand of soy sauce that tastes watered down). Like come on, soy sauce is so crucial to a yummy bite of nigiri. It ruined my sushi eating experience 😭
Didn't have the best experience here. Sushi was overpriced for the quality received. Had a couple featured rolls that were just not a good flavor and a couple standard rolls that were underwhelming. Also ordered ramen and it was not what I expected as the Noddles were a bit chewy and tough. Flavor was okay though. Won't be returning however. There are many other high quality sushi spots in SD for a much better price.
Always amazing. My favorite the lobster roll n lemon roll. Just delicious and great service REVIEW... VALENTINES PRICES WERE CRAZY. . Still delicious but price went up from $16.99 to $26.99 for the lobster roll and size went down. Even the presentation was different...no more pretty leaf.. hoping it was because it was Valentines but honestly was disappointed. Bill was almost $100 for 3 rolls and water. So not sure if they raised the price for the holiday. I don't mind the price but the rolls were smaller. Definitely not as much lobster on top.
I’ve been coming to this place since it was down the street and I had my own chopsticks, more than 20 years ago. The previous owner Kenny was great. I’m very disappointed in the quality of the food, service and atmosphere. I’ve given the place several tries in the hope my “lobster roll” aka BLCR roll would be the same as it was under previous ownership. Sadly, it is not. Things change and so do people and places. But, it kept the name and there was that hope that it was the same. It is not.
First Timer: Reviews were Good so I thought I would give it a Try.. I Ordered the Shrimp Tempura Roll(to go order) which was 8 Small Peices and would have been acceptable if they actually had a any Shrimp inside. Very small amount of Shrimp for a Roll that costs $12.50. I couldn't barely tell it was a Shrimp Tempura Roll based on taste and flavor. Service was good and Atmosphere was nice.
This just wasn't for me. We were sat during lunch in the middle of the week, it was fairly slow with maybe 4 other tables to be tended to. They took our drink and food order, and it took longer than it should have for the drinks to come out. Our sushi came out maybe 20 minutes later, and I had to ask for the seaweed salad we ordered to be brought out. We had almost finished off our rolls by the time it made it to the table so I asked for a box and we left. We had to YELL over the loud music just to have a conversation. Some people enjoy that kind of atmosphere, but I like to chat when I eat sushi. The style of music definitely isn't kid friendly either, which is fine, I don't have kids. But if you do, this isn't the place for you. The sushi isn't the greatest quality and the prices are a bit high for the quality of the rolls in my opinion. With all that said, the staff was friendly and professional. One server working all the tables as far as I could tell, so she had her hands full.
I usually go to that place because the food is very good. Its very bad that the staff is very rude and unprofessional! In the location and even over the phone! “Please” and “thank you” is never in their vocabulary! Also NEVER SMILE!!! One time I ordered a door dash and without asking me, they substituted my shishito peppers (which i love!) with pork and over charged me … i called the restaurant to see what was going on, the lady that picked up again very rude “can I help you” ? I explained the order and she simply said “i changed it because we are out!!!” “Its only $4more” I asked her to cancel that item and she said “OK! OK!” And hung up! Manners and costumes service ZERO!
Sorry but I have to write this review. First time and was looking forward to finding a Japanese restaurant in our neighborhood. Came, sat down, and my partner asked me if it smelled like a bathroom inside which I didnt notice. Ordered appetizers to start which came out immediately along with the sushi. The rolls were nothing to write home about. After 10 minutes our entrees arrived. I tried to finish the sushi but that made my entree cold and then i started to smell the bathroom smell my partner had mentioned earlier. It was pretty strong. The special sushi rolls are still +$15 so idk why someone would spend their money to dine here when there are significantly better restaurants at the same price point w better service. I feel terrible about this review but i feel even worse that my cash was wasted.
No good anymore, use to come here all the time. Clearly management has changed, no greeting into the restaurant and the food was awful, terrible soggy rice on the roll was quite shocked at the drastic change here. Also miso soup tasted like moldy dish soap. Won’t be back extremely sadden to have lost one of our favorite places. We can even deal with the poor service but the food was intolerable.
Sub par sushi. I got the Tokyo dynamite roll and the crunch scallop roll. Basically the same roll with slightly different toppings. Both were doused with a weird black sauce and were pretty underwhelming. Nothing really special about this place. Workers were nice though. Would not suggest coming out of your way to eat here.
Twice I have been here and didn’t even order. As a new person to San Diego, and a relatively new person to sushi (but I have enjoyed the experience, good and bad, so far) this site has the worst customer service in terms of accommodating ANYBODY new to sushi. If I ask about descriptions of rolls that are ‘standard’ they look at me like I am a Martian and it is a waste of their time. And note.. when they say there is crab on the roll it is FAKE without pointing it out. This place is 200 ft from my new home. I have definitely NOT found a favorite spot.
Not what it used to be, new owners get it together. Your staff lacks customer service and busy or not they take forever to assist you when it comes to pick up orders. I will no longer be coming here, I’m tired of the rudeness and the long wait time just to pick up food.
I really did like this place but I thought the public should know…I saw a roach crawling inside the glass where the raw fish sits at the sushi bar. I was super disappointed but I think people should know due to the health hazards that roaches and contaminated food..let alone fish!..can cause.
Bad Bad Bad. If I can put -5 stars, I would've do it. I used to come to this place every week. Unfortunately in my recent visit. I find out it's under new management. Do not even waste your money or time to go there. The service is very bad. It takes 30 minutes to get a cup of water or ginger or a sauce. Very cheap when it comes to the sushi rolls. There is more rice and veggies now than the fish. Moreover, the prices went almost double than they used to be. The BLC role was $26 when it used to be $15. Not very welcoming either. On top of that the manipulation with the prices when you get your check. My bill was $81, I always use a student discount to get %10. When I gave my student ID I was shocked that only six dollar we're taken. This place is awful. All the good reviews that you see are from the previous owner.
Service was pretty bad and the food had 0 taste it was also cold I also ordered yakisoba with veggies veggies were just steamed and cold I got miso for an appetizer and it never came the food didn't come at once either so I had to wait for the rest of my families food to get to the table it wasn't good at all.
We came here as a family for dinner, and it was a very disappointing experience. The chef was clearly drunk—taking shots, talking loudly with guests, shaking hands, and then going back to prepare food without washing his hands. On top of that, everyone at our table received their food except for my husband, who didn’t get his meal until the very end when we were almost finished eating. The service felt careless and the atmosphere was unprofessional. Definitely not a place I would recommend if you care about food safety, service, or a good dining experience.
Just ate there for the fourth time the third time was so so this time was the last time. We got the edamame and miso soup to start. My soup was forgotten. The veggie roll was just spring mixed salad and a piece of avocado in a citrusy type dressing. My son ordered a noodle dish the veggies were steamed but cold. And it definitely lacked flavor. Not once did the waiter come by to see how everything was.
They were not pleasant nor welcoming. Not sure if me and my friend was a black male and black female. It was sad to see we were waiting over 10 minutes to be talked to and asked we’re told “we will be with you”. Not the worst part it was a to-go order anyways and instead of us coming back to get our food he walked to my car to give it to me and had nerve to close my door. Seemed like a nice gesture but signs for me to not come back in the establishment.
Extremely disappointed at the changes that took place after ownership change. Staff is very rude. We've been patronizing Tokyo Sushi for many years. It took the only server at the restaurant 15 minutes to acknowledge us and take our order This happens at restaurants occasionally, however, he lacked any manners and was unapologetic. 50 minutes later we inquired how much longer it would be for our food and his snappy response was they were busy and we "must wait"! We decided to leave explaining we had another engagement to attend to. The apparently drunk chef behind the bar who did not stop drinking his beer yelled loudly "go to a fast food place"! Our 2 younger children did not deserve to hear such a remark. It's sad to say we will be looking for another Sushi restaurant after so many years. The sticky menus were gross, and serving water in metal cans is uninviting.
