Opinions de Alborz San Francisco
I already came here a couple of times and finally decided to leave a review. The food is very good and they have huge portions. I have been to many Persian restaurants and to Iran and also do cook Persian food myself and I always enjoyed my meal here, so did my company. Will definitely be back. Recommended.
Best Persian restaurant in sf.! I just wish the portion of kobideh be more thick also more mast o mosir it’s 10 dollars. Just raise the portion.
Persian is my favorite cuisine and Alborz did not disappoint. Not sure how they don't have a 5 stars on here. The staff was super kind and helpful and the food was delicious. Big portions on the entrees which was great for sharing!
Great food. Elegant place settings. Wonderful local wines. The menu items aren't easy to figure out from the list. But we warmly suggest ordering the ground chicken kebabs, the hummus, and the baklava.
Persian food... super tasty. Visited on Fri I believe. The service was very sociable and kind. The bill was decent. Food is similar to a place in San Francisco I liked.
This is a fantastic place - my wife is half Persian and introduced me to the cuisine via Alborz. The koobideh, fesenjan, and kashke-bademjan are my own favorites. It's consistently amazing and has a white tablecloth decor that's a nice change of pace in SF. The staff is helpful and friendly and it's a cuisine that works well via takeout/delivery and keeps very well. Highly recommend!
Alborz has phenomenal Ghormeh Sabzi. No other place beats it imo!
Glad that this restaurant is still open, still able to provide us with the great food. They survived pandemic and Van Ness construction and temporary closure. Thank you for service a great food to your customers over so many years!
Amazing restaurant. The service is good, and I liked a lot the food. In this place I ate there the best mixed rice I ever tasted in my life. The Persian tea have a better taste than I expected. The baklava dessert, is very sweet but one portion of that is enough.
We had a great meal. The Ghormeh Sabzi is world-class, one of the best we ever had. Service was fast and friendly, and the prize level good for San Francisco.
I was reluctant at first because of low star reviews but thank God I came and tried the food! So far the best Persian restaurant in SF! I ordered Ghorme Sabzi and it came with a huge lamb shack and also the Koobideh and Joojeh was so large portion and amazing quality!
Excellent food and great service, we ordered the roasted eggplant with lamb shank (khoresht bodemjan) ,turshi and koobideh . All were exceptionally cooked , we enjoyed it tremendously .. prices were really cheap compared to other San Francisco restaurants. Would recommend indeed
This place is so under-rated! staff were great food was delicious highly suggest “tah dig with gheyme” also “koobideh” i also tried “koo koo sabzi” and “ghormeh” and “joojeh kabab” but they could be better
Glad found this restaurant while on vacation in San Francisco through Google search. The price for this dish was $40.00 and worth every penny such a tasty juicy meat and 100% recommend it. Service was great and on time. Place was very quite and clean. Totally great experience. 😋😋😋👍❤❤❤
Wonderful Persian restaurant in the heart of San Francisco. Great classic Persian kabobs, friendly staff, nice and peaceful environment and very clean!

Authentic Persian cuisine in the SF Bay Area. We ordered koobideh and it’s the best we’ve had (we’ve had our fair share). Quality food and friendly staff.
This restaurant is excellent. Nice fine dining right in the heart of San Francisco. Great ambiance, friendly service and delicious food. The rice was fantastic and the baked chicken I had very well made and presented. Celebrated my birthday here with friends and would highly recommend this restaurant for special occasions to celebrate with friends and family. 5 stars!
I've been living in USA more than 14 years, but even in Iran never had such a delicious Koobide and Barg. Also, the amount of food for such a price is amazing. In addition, their staff are very generous. The only problem is the location which is hard to find parking lot.
Outstanding Persian cuisine in the heart of San Francisco! Alborz Restaurant exceeded all expectations. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warm hospitality that made us feel like honored guests. The atmosphere strikes the perfect balance between elegant and welcoming. The food was absolutely incredible. Every dish was beautifully prepared with fresh ingredients and authentic flavors that transported us straight to Iran. The portions were generous, and the presentation was lovely. Whether you’re familiar with Persian cuisine or trying it for the first time, the menu offers something wonderful for everyone. The service was attentive without being intrusive, and our server was happy to offer recommendations and explain dishes we weren’t familiar with.

Excellent hummus and moderately good kebabs. Service was spotty in unusual ways - our waitress turned up within a few split seconds of us opening the menu, then when we weren't ready to order, disappeared for several minutes. Good people-watching from the glass walls looking out on Van Ness. Also stumbled across some great reasonably-priced wine off the list (the Silver Ridge cabernet was a standout choice.)
This place served such good food. Especially recommend the chai with rose. I came here with a couple of my Persian friends and they endorsed it as authentic. Highly recommend! Only feedback to the restaurant is -- it smelled funny when I entered.
A decent Persian restaurant in San Francisco with good food and reasonable prices. One of the better options in the city for authentic Persian cuisine. The dishes are flavorful, and the portions are satisfying.
October 2023 4* Visited the place with colleague for quick lunch. It was Wednesday afternoon and it was completely empty. The place is 23 years old and people are working there for more than two decades. You can enjoy Persian and Iranian cuisines. The staff was very nice and helpful. I asked for vegetarian options and she offered to bring a small portion of Fesenjoon for taste. Here is my food list: - Chicken Barg (by other) ***** - Ghorme Sabzi Veggie **** - Fesenjoon **** - Persian Tea ***** The ambiance is nice. Place is accessible. However, some seating on different level (two steps). Washroom is clean and accessible.
Excellent, affordable restaurant serving Middle Eastern/Persian food in busy San Francisco neighborhood. We ended up coming here because the sushi place we wanted to go to was closed. By that happy accident we found this place. Great service and yummy food. We were also experiencing true Persian food for the first time and our server was very kind and helpful. Fair warning, portions were HUGE. We're big eaters and still could've easily split a plate and had more than enough. (We did do this for dessert! lol) As it was, we saved our leftovers and had another yummy meal the next night. My son, who is a cook, was super impressed, particularly by the Fesenjan which was SO delicious. Also have to call out the saffron and pistachio ice cream.
The kabob is delicious, but the rice could be better…. The restaurant was cold, and there was no air conditioner. There is a shared restroom with another restaurant, which is not clean enough.
Visiting San Francisco last week, a friend to Custer for lunch. It was pretty quiet, but the food was excellent and the service was excellent as well.

Not sure why they have less than 4 stars. It’s a solid spot for Persian cuisine and reasonably prices for San Francisco. Ordered the beef koobideh and it came out in less than 10 minutes. Granted I was the only customer. They even bring out bread and butter but also onions and sabzi, most places cheap out on that. All in all a good experience and I’ll come back when I’m in town.

This place used to be better but I think it’s seen better days. The food is decent but not great and is pretty pricey for what it is. It’s just a little shabby these days. I think the Berkeley location is nicer.
Food looks good. But very little taste.!!
I love Greek Mediterranean Turkish Arabic etc food and have had good success with Persian before, this is a swing and miss for me. The kabob ingredient I liked the most was ironically my least favorite vegetable in the tomato, the rice was excessive and strange, and the yogurt soda was savory. So it was not for me. The store was dead 1 on Saturday and across me being here 4 days I never saw someone inside.

The service was a little lacking (took forever to get the check). The restaurant was pretty empty (granted it was a Wednesday night, but still....). The music selection was a bit schmaltzy. There was an annoying mosquito flying around our table. And lastly, I didn't love the eggplant appetizer we ordered. That said, the salmon kebab was pretty good, and the saffron rice it came with was perfect. Also, while the service had trouble understanding the question I asked about the menu, they were definitely friendly.
We ordered via Uber Eats. Not sure if this is an authentic Persian restaurant, but the joojeh skewers were made of ground chicken instead of chicken thigh pieces despite what's shown in other photos for this restaurant's review. They also tasted a bit off and not fresh. The jewelled rice was simply too sweet and the pistachios were not fresh and crunchy. No balance in flavours.
Staff was pleasant but it was colder inside than outside. Salmon kebab was old and undercooked. Koobideh was on point. Overall, one and done for me.
Ordered 2 meals to go, paid $75 (!!), incl tip. We got no utensils , meat was way overcooked instead of medium rare, onion wasn’t cut. Hopefully this is a one off , but we definitely won’t come back.

The food quality is not in par with the prices. The Chicken kabob was blend. Mirza Ghasemi was tasty though. Based on my other comments, I think the place is doing a terrible job with Kabobs.

I love Persian food and have had barg many many times but I had one bite of their barg and couldn't eat anymore. Not only was it gross but it didn't taste like beef or lamb. It was nasty mystery meat. I thought maybe I was just being picky but my husband and son both tried it and agreed with me. The koobideh was okay but the chicken and rice were delicious. The service was poor and the prices too high for the food quality.
I am a big fan of Iranian food and every time I travel to a major city, I try one since where I live, we don't have that many Persian options. We tried this place last week. The food was okay. However, the service was awful. The staff were not friendly at all and they were really rude. In one occasion we asked for an extra spoon and the waiter brough one in his hand (not even wrapped in a napkin) while water was still dripping off the spoon and he said: "here take it now". Who on earth behaves like that towards customers. If you want to try a food place in SF, move on. I am sure there are plenty of quality options that know how to respect their customers.
Bathroom is flooded, I tell about it to the lady working there, she says: its not our problem, the landlord is not good. I was about to slip a few times. -----Update: I never check my bank transactions, but I just did totally by chance. This restaurant had charged my master-card 10$ more, which I disputed online. A shameful business like this only destroys the look and fame of Persian culture and make us look bad in the world. I wish I had asked the name of our waitress, she was a mid-age lady, the only one working there. To add to this, when we wanted to leave the restaurant around 9:30 PM, the door was locked, and we had to ask how to unlock the door (was simple though) so that we can leave. Just FYI, it is illegal to lock the doors when there are still customers in there. BAD PRACTICE.
I recently visited Aalborz restaurant to try some Persian food, and unfortunately, it was a disappointing experience. I ordered the Koobideh, and it turned out to be the worst I’ve ever had. The taste was completely off—nothing like kebab at all—and I couldn’t even finish my meal. My friends tried other dishes, but none of us were impressed. Additionally, the staff didn’t make us feel welcome, which only added to the poor experience. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant.
I'm giving it 1 star because I can't give it zero. The kebabs were far from good—just pieces of something vaguely shaped like a kebab. It didn’t matter whether it was koobideh or barg. The chicken kebab was mediocre—not terrible, but dry and chewy. The stews and tahdig were terrible as well. We spent around $400 for a group of 7, but the experience felt like it was worth only $30–40.
We had shishlik and koobideh with tahdig, and I have to say, the koobideh was completely flavorless—absolutely no taste or aroma. I’m genuinely questioning what kind of meat they used to make it. The shishlik was equally disappointing. The only somewhat enjoyable item was the side of mast o khiar. As for the atmosphere, the entire place had a musty, damp smell, and the bathroom wasn’t very clean either. Overall, it was a very disappointing experience.
Very low quality service, very unfriendly and rude staff at the front. No persian music either. We brought our stroller next to our table as the entire restaurant was empty and we were the only customers on a Friday night and we heard the waitress told the other employee that they put their stroller in the middle of everything!!! The food was overpriced and not great. I will not recommend this place to anyone who likes to enjoy Iranian cuisine!
This restaurant fraudulently changed the tip on my receipt. They must have thought I wouldn't notice, but I took a picture of my receipt. When I called, they played dumb and refused to refund me.
Worst dinning experience ever. The food was pre-cooked and then heated up. when going to the washroom, which lacked warm water, I could not stay more than 30 seconds due to bad urine stingy smell. I do not advise anyone to go there.
I don’t recommend at all !!! I recently visited Alborz Restaurant in San Francisco for a Sunday lunch and I must say, it was a disappointing experience trouble service Although we were aware that it had a higher price point, we expected better service. After placing our order, we waited for 30 minutes for our food. They brought out one dish but informed us that the second one was still on the way. We continued to wait, and despite asking multiple times, it took another 30 minutes for the second dish to arrive! This was absolutely unacceptable. When we raised our concerns, the staff simply informed us that they were short-staffed. Are you kidding me? After speaking with the manager about the situation, she assured us that she would sort it out, yet all we received was a small ice cream as an apology. This experience was incredibly disappointing and ruined our weekend lunch. I will never return to Alborz Restaurant and I cannot recommend it to anyone. Save your time and money!
