Really good burgers here, we also ordered fries, sweet potato fries, and broccoli bites (steamed broccoli with lemon wedges) with 5 burger, 2 of them has 2 patties, 2 were cheese burgers and 1 was a spicy chicken burger with 3 drinks we paíd $100. They also have home made pickles and home made ranch wich is SUPER GOOD!
Vegetarian options include a beyond burger that's great and broccoli crowns instead of fries. Really fun old fashioned feel to the take away boxes. Casual but very nice decor, kid friendly. Note for takeout, they don't always label the food so be careful and consider ordering in two shots if you need a lot of food.
First time in SF eating at Hi-way burger & Fry. Was absolutely good and affordable. One double cheeseburger meal me and my husband split and shared along with their delicious Garlic fries. I'm also a photographer so I did a small clip and I'm running for Mayor of San Francisco 2024. Highly recommend for everyone including family. 5 stars will be coming back.
Excellent burger! Great ingredients and nothing to really complain about. Tho, I regretted taking the double meat because it made it difficult to eat properly. Avocado didn't bring that much of the flavor. Bun and meat were really good (peppery). Definitely to try 😉(and come back). Smoothy strawberry was great too 😊
It's rare I would give 5 stars to anywhere, but it was exactly the hamburger that I I was imagining.... and the fries we're just like you would make them at home. Seating could be a little bit cramped and there's only one outdoor table. Parking is usually not a big problem and it's a very nice neighborhood.
Stumbled in here on a random day. I was pleasantly surprised by everything. I had a burger and fries. Both were excellent. The special sauce on the burger is out of this world.
Delicious! They even have a veg option. Their sweet potato fries and onion rings are so good!
Hi-Way nails the classic burger joint vibe with a modern twist. My cheeseburger was juicy, perfectly seasoned, and layered on a toasted bun, while the onion rings were crispy and golden without being greasy. It’s easily one of the top burgers in the city.
The food was amazing, we tried the cheeseburger, the double cheeseburger and the chicken burger. Everything was perfectly prepared, you can see they make your order fresh every time and it is just delicious. Would recommend. 10/10. The prices are also justified.
GREAT little spot!!! The burger was seasoned sooo good. Very Delicious. The fries were like In n Out fries. The batter on the onion rings were just right and the ranch dressing they give you was so Yummo!! The customer service was Amazing. Greeted with a smile and so professional. The employees really looked liked they were happy to be at work. Such a pleasure to see. We will definitely be back. Thank you for such a good experience.
Great burgers and sides for a great price. I'm really into soft serve and they have it there. All are welcome.
Hi-Way is my way. A great value of good ingredients, good taste and texture, good price, friendly, accommodating service and clean cooking conditions. .
Double hamburger w/extra tomatoes, extra onions w/regular fries. The hamburger was perfect! French fries really good. Condiment section (next to drink machine) completely stocked. The restaurant was spotless! Perfectly clean. Even the music was perfect. I know I sound like a commercial, but it's all true.
Wanted burgers and beeps was too far so found this little gem and it was super worth it! Definitely would come back. Quick to get my order with nice indoor seating. Big fan!
Another stop on my never ending journey to try all sf popular burger places. Had to trek out to Noe Valley for this spot and it was worth the commute. Good burger and fries to be found here. And they have Barqs rootbeer on fountain.
I have visited this place for the first time and it’s not going to be the last time. I will definitely be back. They make the best smash burger ever in a toasted sesame buns. Perfect balanced garlic fries and the crispiest onion rings. So delicious. They are very welcoming and very nice warm people. I would highly recommend them to anyone who loves burgers and delicious food.
Walked by this spot often and always loved how friendly they were so I stopped in for a double cheeseburger - was honestly blown away! Solid juicy grilled patties and fresh ingredients - doesn’t leave you feeling too “greasy” after either. Went back twice! Def one of my fave burger spots!!
April 2025: Stopped by for burgers and fries. The place was very busy. Lots of people eating here and to go orders. So we waited a little longer than I expected... But the wait was well worth it. I had a chicken sandwich that was very tasty. Our food was cooked to order, which made everything fresher and delicious 😋. Sweet potato fries were pretty good. Will definitely be back again for more delicious food.
Hands down one of best burgers in SF. My friend’s theory is that the way they smash a big ball of meat into a relatively thin patty makes a better texture. I love the meat in that they are not fatty nor there’s excessive oil in my burger.
Small comfortable cozy and family friendly restaurant that serves some amazingly fresh and tasty home cooked flavors!! The burgers were juicy, dripping with taste. Every bite was an explosion of flavors. Didn't disappoint by any means, visit this favorite if you want a true slice of San Francisco.
Quality and inexpensive burgers in noe valley. The highlight was the chicken sandwich that came with a huge roasted pepper slab! The homemade fries were really good too and generous servings!
This is a great place to go for delicious juicy grilled burgers, heaping portions of crispy, perfectly seasoned fries, and quick and friendly service! It's a feast for your eyes and for your stomach! You might want to get it to go, in case you can't finish it all (like me)!

I’m always on the hunt for a great burger in every city I’m in, and after 10 years living in SF now, I somehow still get excited about my almost-weekly trips to Hi-Way Burger & Fry. Are they the best burgers in the world or, heck, even this city? Depends how philosophical you want to get about burgers. What I can say is they are insanely good and, more importantly, consistently good, which in burger math counts for a lot. Patties smashed just right every single time, fries fried exactly how fries should be fried…no weird experiments, no drama. This is a pure, no-frills burger spot that might quietly become your favorite before you even realize it. I willingly drive 15 minutes across the city for it, which on the SF driving scale is basically a cross-country road trip. Zero regrets. Highly recommend. Also: don’t sleep on the shakes or the onion rings. Absolute hitters.
A very pleasant place. The music, atmosphere, and food are all outstanding. The burgers are delicious and feel truly homemade - not overloaded with flavors like in many burger places. The buns are light, airy, and absolutely wonderful.
Classic smash burger. What an excellent place on the corner of Main Street in noe valley on 24th st. Fun interior with food that’s fresh and opened late. Got garlic fries with double smash burger, definitely amazing with their ranch. Wish much success
I ordered the cheeseburger, Coke and strawberry milkshake. The hamburger was massive. I didn't have to eat again for 24 hours. The milkshake was so fresh and creamy and I got free refills on Coke. The staff was so friendly and fast. I sat in corner table with big windows. I was able to watch everyone go by. The prices were normal. It's a classic American food place.

Has a non-vegan rendition of the Beyond burger on the menu, and were very accommodating about veganising it on request (the sauce and bun are vegetarian, not vegan). Great sweet potato fries. Reasonably priced. Excellent, attentive counter service - the man at the till went to great lengths to ensure my meal would be vegan 💞 Five stars for service, four stars because I think they could do a more imaginative vegan Beyond as a standard menu option.
Another amazing meal at Hi Way. As always, the burgers were tasty and huge. We also ordered Garlic Fries and a couple shakes.
A Modern Western Vibe with a Twist in Noe Valley Tucked into a corner in San Francisco’s charming Noe Valley, this burger spot feels like stepping onto the set of an old Western—if the saloon served plant-based patties and endless condiments. The atmosphere has a modern-meets-classic charm, and while the staff weren’t exactly rolling out a red carpet, their neutral reception kept things casual and unpretentious. I went for the Beyond Meat Burger, and here’s where I confess: I forgot to add cheese. A rookie mistake, and one I won’t be making again. The burger itself was flavorful, though I couldn’t help but notice that the Beyond Meat option costs more than its meaty counterpart—a quirk I’m still trying to process. Still, it earns a solid 7/10 in my book. What really stood out were the little extras. The self-serve station was a treasure trove of condiments: mayo, chili sauce, BBQ sauce, pickles, jalapeños—you name it. And the free drink refills? Always a win. But the true MVP? The sweet potato fries. Crispy, golden perfection. All in all, this spot serves up a solid burger experience with a side of Noe Valley charm. It’s the kind of place you’d happily wander into after a stroll, cowboy hat optional.
Had their cheeseburger and onion rings. I could taste the fressness of their ingredients. The burger was simple and classic. Not overly salty or greesy. It’s not eye-opening at first, but the more you make your way through your burger, the more you’ll enjoy it. Onion rings were a bit too sweet to my taste. The restaurant itself is clean with a cute retro vibe. I’ll be happy to comeback.
Good place to drop by and get a quick meal at a reasonable price. The burger was juicy and flavorful. The onion rings were nice and crispy. The fries were ok. I think they could of fried them a tiny bit longer to get a little bit more crispy. Overall, a great place.

Overall a good place to eat. Seemed to be a pretty popular place. I would have liked more communication about my meal but overall, I’d go again and try a different sandwich next time (even though burger tasted great)
Affordable burger but morning to scream about, everything was average, including the milkshake. We got 2!double cheeseburgers, one with bacon, garlic fries and onion rings. Fries and rings not the crispiest type of you prefer those like me. Burger was average, not particularly flavorful or memorable. Only thing noteworthy was that it didn't cost us an arm and a leg like many other burger joints, but it was just average tastiness so didn't justify higher prices. Service was non existent, just order at counter and pick up your order. Casual atmosphere, seating is first come first served.
This place is no fun to go to anymore because they’re so backed up with takeout orders you just wait forever to get your food. Food is great though just the wait is super long.
Good prices and nice staff, I also really really enjoyed the fries! Unfortunately that’s about it though. I got the double cheese burger here and was quite surprised how underwhelming it was. It was pretty bland and nothing really brought any life to it, I was dunking it in ketchup just to get some flavor… I heard good things about this place so was really looking forward to it. Maybe I came in on an off night but I don’t see myself making the trek out here again sadly! Although maybe for the fries :)

Always double-check your orders when picking up, especially when the store is busy! I learned this the hard way when I was really hungry and started eating before realizing a few bites in that I got the wrong order. I had ordered a double cheeseburger with bacon, but instead, I received a plain cheeseburger. I emailed the store using the address on their website but haven’t received a response yet. Just wanted to give them a heads-up, as neither of us double-checked if I got the right order.
So disappointed spent over $100 on my order to take it home and find my order wrong so when I call the person on the phone he wants to go back and forth. I didn’t get one of my side orders. Got so frustrated I didn’t get anywhere I hung up. No solution and didn’t eat my dinner was so excited to finally go here for this waste of money and bad experience.
Took forever and then the dude putting fries in had the most lopsided fry dump. The two next to mine had fries pouring out of the box and I got the scraps at the end. Literally so bad I questioned filling a chargeback for fraud. Absolutely atrocious.
I use to get good fries, but this time the fries were over cooked, fees like if I’m eating charcoal!!! Please take care or the Personal who cooked I certainly hours
Used to be great but now it has been “door dashed”. When you eat there you are competing for service with half a dozen delivery drivers cycling through. Food is bad now, and so is the service. Come on folks, if you want to be a ghost kitchen, be a ghost kitchen, but don’t provide this awful food and experience.
