Wonton soup and roasted duck are the best in this neighborhood.
Quite impressed with this tasty juicy Cantonese Roast duck ! Definitely repeat & the Cha Siu .. omg .. can’t stop eating it … must be the slight sweetness marinate!
I don't understand why people think that the place has terrible customer service! I've been going to this restaurant since I was 3, and the food is tasty as always, the staff members are very nice and won't ignore you. But if they are short on staff u would need to expect a wait. My grandma has bought chicken to-go every now and then, and the chickens are always tender and don't have any missing parts! 一定要去試吓!!!!
Been coming here over 20 years, they have new updated menu! Get on it! The bbq pork and duck is delicious! Their noodles are good!
One of the best values in the city. Try their pork chop rice plate or their vermicelli with grilled pork or chicken with egg roll. Those are my go to’s. The pork chops with rice is enough to share unless you’re a big eater. Seat yourself. Don’t expect someone to tell you where to sit. Once seated, they will bring you tea and menus. No fluff.
12/15/2025: One of my pet peeves is hearing the sound of a vacuum. If you come at 6pm, the wait staff will be vacuuming even though they close at 7pm. A group of loud mandarin speaking mainland Chinese came and sat near my table. They were super loud as they had to talk over the vacuum. It is hard to enjoy food with a lot of noise. My pork chop rice w/egg $13.70 tasted fine. It came with fish sauce and a side of soup. While leaving, I noticed they still had spareribs $11.40 a pound in the BBQ window. That usually sells out. This was delicious with that sweet red glaze. It is best enjoyed on the same day as they dry out if you put in the fridge. Updated review 4/2/2025: Lam Hoa Thuan has a pretty good dry thick egg wonton noodles $13.20. The restaurant itself is noisy. If you sit too close to the front, you can hear endless chopping of the take-out BBQ meats. I noticed the clientele has changed to half mandarin speaking mainland Chinese people. There was one guy tonight on his speaker phone talking the entire time in mandarin. That was annoying. I ate my noodles as fast as possible and left. Updated review 9/4/2023: There's always a line in front of Lam Hoa Thuan for the BBQ take-out items on weekends/holidays during peak hours. The lines do move fairly quickly as there are two butchers. Today I was fortunate enough to pick-up some BBQ spareribs, $11 a pound at 2pm. They are always sold out when I come after work on a weekday. The flavor for the BBQ spareribs can be described as juicy, smokey and sweet. Since I'm already here, I decided to dine-in and get their #2, combo wonton noodles dry (Hủ Tiếu Khô), with soup on the side, $13.50. I love their Teochew style noodles served dry. Service was excellent. Original review: Indoor dining is finally back at Lam Hoa Thuan! This has to be the best revenge meal from Covid restaurant closures I had. Their #7, house special egg noodles (thick or thin noodles) $11.50 is my favorite. I love how you can order it dry with soup on the side (chiu chow style). It is sort of like lo-mein but with an oilier texture and minced meat. This has to be one of the last hold outs of take-out only restaurants. They only served BBQ by the window during March 2020 - August 2023. O, how I miss their noodles. We used to come on the weekends after our bike rides. It was something we all looked forwarded to. Their menu is now truncated though. It feels great to finally get something I've lost.
wish the meat werent cold but everything ws still good
Best bun bo hue I've had. The roast duck was a little too fatty and salty for me, but the bun bo hue made up for it. The cold soy milk was so delicious! The bun bo hue was even more delicious.
This place is cash only. I tried the roast pork, BBQ pork, and boiled chicken with salt and my favorite is the BBQ pork. You can ask for a leaner or fattier cut depending on your preference. It’s very popular and I had to wait for about 15 minutes on a weekend
Great cheap chicken rice if you happen to make it to the Central Sunset. I know, who ever goes for the Sunset but this is a cant miss. It’s cheap, quick, easy and good. Sometime, Basic is best.
This place is pretty bomb. You'll probably encounter a line outside the door. Only the roasted items are available right now because of Covid. Got the Cantonese roasted duck, roasted pork, soy sauce chicken, and charsu

Finally they allow to dine in. I have not been there for over two years and heard the master chief left. Some of my favorite dishes are no longer served. But, the roast duck is still the best I've ever had.
The place is decent, not too shabby. The staff is alright, though not particularly friendly. I found the food to be lacking; I ordered the duck, and it was quite oily, cold, and salty. The egg noodles didn't compare to VH in Oakland, which I can understand given the lower prices. Overall, it was an acceptable meal, but I don't think I'll be returning anytime soon. Cash only!
The best soy sauce chicken I ever have. Everything I stop by, I will get the soy sauce chicken. The wonton noodle soup is also good. Charshiu and roast pork are average. Duck is good. It was very busy when we arrived because of the sunset night market event. The service was very quick. Your order comes in no time. It is cash only.price is reasonable. This plas is mostly a local eatery.
The food is great; my family has been coming here for years and years. Our recommendations are the bbq pork over rice (tip: you can ask for a fattier or leaner cut when ordering depending on your preference) and the house special ho fun soup. Both the Chinese and Vietnamese options are good and the prices are reasonable. There’s one staff member that is consistently pretty aggressive and rude, but in general they will help you.
I have been coming here for ages, usually when I am in the area and in need of some chinese barbecue. Upon arrival, you can smell that char aroma from the counter and when the chefs are cutting up the goods. They are know for their roast duck, chicken, chau siu, roast pork and much more. They also offer dine in where the menu consists of Chinese and Vietnamese dishes. Everything is made to order which is always a plus for me and I never mind the wait since I am a very patient person. The staffs here are welcoming, well trained and understanding where I never encountered an issue at any of my visits. Lastly I would have to say this place has one of the best Hong Kong style barbecue in the area. I highly recommend this place to all Asian food enthusiasts, if you are in need of a quick bite or to anyone willing to try something new. I definitely will be back to tryout the other delicious options they have to offer.
This cash-only restaurant sells reasonably priced food that could be better. Outside, you'll see lots of cooked food on display through the large window. To order, head inside and go to the counter. I ordered the roast duck over rice, and the duck was cut to order. My to-go order cost $12.95. It wasn't the price listed, but that's how much I was charged. The prices on the menu outside aren't the right prices. Anyway, that's still not too bad. The rice was perfectly cooked, as expected. The duck was good, but it was mostly bones and fat. The sauce was extremely salty. I recommend using only a third of the container, just enough to add flavor to the rice. The duck tastes fine without the sauce. The restaurant itself was pretty clean when I visited. The service was fine. There were plenty of seating for dining in, and it wasn't too busy, even at dinnertime.
Mix Chinese and Vietnamese food. Delicious Duck. Good Service. Reasonable Price. 3-Peat, what more can you ask for. Only downside is Cash Only.
It’s a hit or miss depending on what you get. I ordered the orange peel duck and it was dry and disappointing. The noodle soup was tasty. Their bbq duck and other bbq items are definitely delicious. I like their soy milk.
Lam Hoa Thuan is a popular restaurant with delicious Chinese and Vietnamese dishes. The restaurant is busy most of the weekend, with a line in front of the restaurant. Customers are either waiting for a table or waiting to order food to go. The customer service at Lam Hoa Thuan is pretty good, and the dining room is comfortable.

They have changed the menu for lunch to non stir fry items only. It's a disappointment for me as I was looking for something stir fry. Their deli items are still very good as my husband had a rice plate with roast duck. I tried a piece & it was good. However, not like normal rice plates at other restaurants, there were no veggies at all. Most places will give you cooked cabbage. I had a plate of warm rice noodles with beef. It was alright. Not especially fond of it as I had better.
I hate to say it but I feel like Lam Hoa Thuan's quality has gone a bit downhill. My grandparents would used to take me here frequently when I was a kid and I remember the food being pretty good. Some of the items we ordered were a bit disappointing. Aside from the Grilled Pork and Egg Roll Vermicelli being really good, the Pork Feet Special Rice Noodle was super bland. The pork feet had a very unpleasant smell. Had lot of hair left on the skin that wasn't plucked out. It looked like it was just boiled in hot water with no flavor. The Beef Noodle Soup was all msg. It didn't taste like your typical pho with the spices and deep flavors. Hard to explain, but I left the restaurant super thirsty from all the msg in the soup. We also ordered a duck and bbq pork to go which were both decent. Nothing negative to say about the service. Street parking available but might be a bit difficult during the weekend. Overall, I would come back but probably won't order the noodle soups. 07.20.2025 | Sunday @2:15pm

It’s affordable, aaaand that’s about it. The crispy pork was extremely ‘gamey’. If budgets tight, this place is alright. Otherwise would not return or recommend. They were quite busy though.
I went to this restaurant based on a friend's recommendation, as she mentioned they serve excellent roast duck. So, I decided to try it out and ordered the roast duck, along with an additional boiled salted chicken. Upon entering, I noticed that the majority of the customers were Chinese. When a staff member asked for my order and proceeded to cut the duck for me, he chose a very skinny one with barely any meat. I explained that I preferred a different one since I had paid the same amount as everyone else and didn't want to end up with a skinny duck. I didn't want to be the unlucky person with less meat. However, when I reached the cashier to pay, it seemed there was a misunderstanding. They gave me two ducks instead of one. I clarified that I only wanted one, but the cashier seemed unwilling to accommodate my request. She insisted that since the duck had already been cut, I couldn't return it. I found this frustrating as I hadn't even touched or opened the box. The situation escalated when she spoke rapidly in Chinese, which I didn't understand. Adding to the inconvenience, the restaurant only accepted cash, and despite this, they required customers to pay taxes. It felt odd to imagine them avoiding taxes but still expecting customers to cover that expense. Unfortunately, I didn't have enough cash on hand, so I had to go to the bank to withdraw money. Overall, I found the customer service to be subpar and the atmosphere unwelcoming.
Not even worth one star! Cheating chop chef and owner. On 1/5/2023 I bought half roast duck and half soy sauce duck to go. Later I found out both ducks missing wings and breast meat parts! Also the chef gave me whole head of the ducks and lots of meatless bone parts!! Called the restaurant and the owner/staff argued with me by saying I might have eaten the missing parts. Will never buy from this restaurant again! If you buy to-go food, make sure to watch the chef chop the meats and pack into the containers before you walk over to cashier to pay. Serious lesson learned!
I feel mixed about this place. Often food is great, not on my last visit. Usually the rice noodles are spectacular - grainy this time, wasn't silky. & I was so disappointed this time in their five spice duck. It was gamey with no five spice flavor at all. Typically the service sucks with one major exception - the female servers. The male servers do not look your way, don't greet you, nor mutter a word, & certainly not thank you - apparently there to collect your $ & last time I was there, I never received my change b/c he kept it by the register to hope I wouldn't inquire & forget about it. I witnessed other tables attempting to flag these male servers (in particular the 2 bespectacled ones) in asking for their check & these customers were ignored Please spare your energy - only approach/interact with the female servers, it's your only fighting chance to get any type of service here. Ultimately, that was probably my final visit.
Roast duck has changed. Twice we bought roast duck there and both times the roast duck flavor is not good anymore. Customer service sucks. The cashier lady has a mean attitude.
food was cold, our drinks had black stuff floating around and our soda cans’ expiration dates had been crossed off and the cans were rusted. dirty place. terrible, slow, and rude service then begged us for a $10 tip.

The restaurant used to be my mother in law's favorite place before, but the foods and especially the services declined tremendously now. They even ask for tips and charge for people siting and eating at the restaurant. So sad! Not recommended!
Beware! This place is cash only! The roast pork and BBQ pork both have a porky meat smell indicates that imthey are not very fresh. I got the BBQ pork and roast pork plate and the flavor just isn't authentic. I will not go back.
When ordering, her attitude was extremely bad. She taught us how to order and how to talk, and threw the tissue and menu in front of us, as if you were her enemy. I came here to consume, not to be taught by you or to see your face. Her face was so ugly that it almost fell to the ground. You must pay in cash, not by card or AppIe pay, luckily I brought cash. The old lady who paid the bill did not include the tip in the bill. After giving cash, she scolded the customer in Cantonese to the middle-aged man with glasses, saying that he didn't know how to tip. The middle-aged man said "silly coin" with contempt, and he thought I didn't understand Cantonese. Except for the old man who slaughtered the barbecue meat, the attitude of the rest of the family was a little better.
Food was not that great. If you really like duck leg with noodles I suggest you go to thai nghiep ky mi gia on Noriega (a few blocks down) It is way better. We ordered today the duck leg with noodles and there was way too much noodles. It is not like it is hand pulled or fresh, it is just store bought noodles. The broth just tasted like chicken broth and msg. Not to mention, the broth smelled old. The quality of the food was way below average especially for all the hype it gets. Way better Cantonese/Vietnamese food elsewhere on Irving. To add to that, the service was poor. I had to ask for extra napkins, ask for small plates to share an “appetizer”, have to ask for a refill on tea, have to ask for a box, have to ask for the check, have to ask for more napkins, have to wave my hands in the air like a psycho hoping a waiter will notice me. Then after I ask, you forget about it and I have to ask again. If a customer has to ask all these questions that the service is poor and you have no clue how to run a restaurant that values quality and customer service. I tipped $5, considering all that was said. When we were outside of the door the waiter came back and told us that we didn’t tip enough, and said “oh this is too little and not 15%”. Just extremely disgusting entitled behavior. Tip is earned not given and something I guess they don’t understand. If you want tip, you should how to do your job better. Learn from any other restaurant that provides good service and you will. Absolutely ridiculous. I will not be returning here. Give your money to a more deserving business. Roast duck tastes better at Ranch 99. We are in SF, with one of the largest populations of Chinese-Americans in the country. Roast duck & char siu are available on every single block. Seriously don’t waste your time. Also parking is awful on this street.
They are cheating the weight and price. I bought 1.4lbs BBQ pork total on the box is $13.99 and one soya chicken they cost me $24. I knew that is wrong and complain but they said no it right. When I came back home and weight total all chicken just weight 2.2 lbs (including sauce) and the price they sell just $6.9/lbs. That mean I just need to pay $29 for total but they took me $41 hahha. They have good money with this way of CHEAT, everybody be careful

Amazing food, rich in flavor and texture. The servicing however is horrible, upon checkout some balding wispy haired botched tattooed eyebrows short lady at the register was supposed to ring up my takeout; she didn't acknowledge me when I was literally right up at her counter as she was cussing and joking around with her coworkers so I spoke up and asked her for the total price twice as she couldn't hear me then she turned around giving me some nasty attitude all up in my face talkin about some "you couldn't understand chinese?" Or something like that just cause I asked to pay. So I confirmed again then she didn't answer me straight again being sarcastic and telling me that the cost was 10M. Like I asked a perfectly reasonable question given that the register didn't display the total so I asked the cashier but she ignores me then she claims to have answered then she says I don't understand? Tryna catch a case with that grotesquely disgusting attitude and that stinky expression.
