Opinions de Wok Shop Cafe San Francisco
My friend and I were visiting SF. We were tired from walking all day. So we wanted to order takeout to comfortably eat in our hotel room. We grew up eating a Cantonese Chinese food. But this was different and so yummy! We regretted not ordering more! We will definitely come back when we’re in SF.
Went in knew what I wanted. Or at least I thought I did. Luckily the person working hooked me up. I was dental surgery souping it. And thought I’d try out the egg flower soup. And as long as I was there get an old favorite of sweet and sour pork. To eat after dental surgery pain subsided. I looked on line and thought I picked the best options. And was also craving egg fried rice. So I thought I had the best way of doing it from online menu looking. But nope after he quickly computed it in his head he hooked me up with the best option and got me an egg roll in the deal! That was very yummy! I am picky about egg flower soup. The consistency was right on. I wasn’t expecting corn in there, because it was chopped up. But yeah i actually liked it with the corn. I’m used to mine with those little brown mushrooms. Instead of corn and when I have had the corn in there at other places, it’s never been a good thing. But this was pretty near the consistency I’m used to. It was almost like magic that I don’t get the corn until the end. And the sweet sour pork, and fried rice light, and just pretty amazing! Thank you!
Awesome place! Called to place order, got the house chow mein, walnut prawns, and egg rolls. Great food, the walnuts were awesome because they were the true homemade candied kind, not the inauthentic poorly commercially made type you usually get. Great pricing, very polite service when we came to pick up.
Asked for non spicy orange chicken accidentally got spicy my daughter's are young and cant handle it quite yet. But i called and they offered to remake and deliver the right order and it was definitely delicious. We will for sure be returning to this place. Thanks for the good food and great service
My first time having American Chinese food and every dish we ordered here was (unexpectedly)great. Good, quick service too. Crab puffs: 10/10 Kung pao chicken(sometimes too salty): 8/10 Mongolian beef noodles (spicy): 9/10, could have used more salt. Self add soy sauce. Can be a little oily for some. Good wok charr flavor! Mushroom and bokchoy: 9/10, lacked some salt but the table soy sauce fixed it easily Sweet and sour pork: 10/10, excellent! Steamed broccoli and tofu with black bean sauce: 10/10, sauce was very flavorful, can be served on the side instead of mixed in. Salt and pepper wings: 10/10 Will come back!
Local Chinese Restaurant for reliable favorites. They have lunch specials, dinner, take out, sit down. Their new space is bright and airy. I usually get the Singapore noodles, broccoli beef, fried rice, and crab rangoons here.
My favorite Chinese food in San Francisco! Call in your order directly to get free delivery on orders over $20! 😍 I am so happy to order from this place because the food is so delicious and they offer great deals. My favorite orders are mild Mongolian beef with chow mein, black bean beef (secret menu item) with fried rice, and wonton soup. I loved wonton soup growing up but until now I only ever liked it at the Wok of Flame in Davis, CA, quite far away from here, but now I finally have found another delicious wonton soup!! Hooray! I look forward to trying their Mu Shu pork one of these days too. Also, I enjoy the crab puff appetiser. The lemon chicken was nice, but like most sweet sauces I can only eat so much of it. The spicy garlic pork is another good dish.
Reasonably-priced with lots of options. Definitely going to be my new go-to for tofu and broccoli!
im only in town for a limited amount of time and ive eaten here 3 times already. their sweet and sour sauce is so delicious you could take shots of it. great value for the price, especially the dinner combo. highly recommend 👌
We ordered from Wok Shop Cafe to our hotel, via Grubhub. We ordered two of the meal combinations, 1) the cumin lamb combo with an egg roll, hot and sour soup, and white rice and 2) the hot chile chicken combo with egg roll, hot and sour soup, and lo mein noodles. The food was delivered to our hotel a full twenty minutes early, and the delivery man was cheerful and friendly, saying “I hope you enjoy the dinner.” In my experience, that rarely happens, and this was an atypically warm delivery person. As for the food itself, the soups were very fresh and flavorful and the egg rolls were crispy outside and moist inside, not so easy to do with delivery chinese. The chile chicken was our favorite, crisply fried outside and tender inside, in a flavorful and spicy sauce. The cumin lamb was good not great, as the meat did not have the texture of being wok fried quickly, instead feeling a little like the meat was steamed in the sauce, which had been in the wok before the meat. Anyway, the food was overall quite good, delivered early, and with a 25% off first order coupon on Grubhub. I’d recommend this place having sampled many local Chinese joints.
My Chinese parents and I ate here two nights in a row. All 7 dishes we got were great. Great southern Chinese style food and great value! Definitely recommend.
I've been going to this restaurant even when they had a location on Polk St. The food is fantastic here and the servers/kitchen staff are friendly and nice. We order take out from here almost every week and occasionally dine in. I highly recommend their Orange Chicken and Salt and Pepper Fish Fillet. The Beef Chow Fun is decent too and we always order this dish with less oil. Portions are decent, the food is priced pretty fair, and every time I'm done eating here I'm always satisfied.
They have some of the best chicken wings.
Visited 11/06/2023 Popped in here for dinner as we weren't sure what we wanted but it had vegetarian options. The food was amazing and we are so glad we visited. Quiet when we first got there, but soon filled up, and they had take-out orders going out too so very popular. We had Singapore noodles with pork, beef, chicken and prawns, and a vegetarian option of vegetable chow mein. We also added little vegetable potstickers which we had never had before. All of the food was delicious. Would recommend visiting here.
Very good Chinese cuisine. The pt stickers were so good and filling. The Beef Chow Fun was so delicious and felt home cooked. The duck was so succulent, juicy, flavorful and delicious. The white rice balanced it. Very happy to have found such good food.
I’ve been ordering take out from here for years now and every time it’s exactly as I expect. The wild pepper chicken is my go to and a must! It’s perfectly crispy and not dry. The chili pepper is spicy but not overpowering of the other flavors. (Mind you spice preference is subjective, and I like it hot). The dry fried green beans are crunchy and each bean is evenly covered with sauce. Order from here if you’re looking for yummy classic American Chinese food!! (I call directly so they get the whole sale.)
Sweet and sour fish fillet was really good. Seafood fried rice is good too although average. And the Singapore style noodles were a little dry for me but maybe that's how it normally is. I wouldn't order it again though. Ordered takeout so I can't say anything about the service although it took 22 mins for the order to get ready (yes, I timed it). Place is alright. I didn't see anything worth mentioning. But an ok place to dine in.
I was walking around noticed this spot. I went for the lunch special and it was delicious. My favorite is always S&P pork chops and they nailed it. Crispy and peppery. I’ll definitely come back to try the other dishes.
The food and service were great. The egg roll and the Kung Pao Prawns were some of the best I've had. Very polite and timely. Great prices as well.
First time here, my wife and I where walking by stoped to try it out. The food is really good and price is not bad. We will definitely come back.
their lunch menu items are delicious and affordable! the wild pepper chicken is a must try! service was fast and the man taking our order was very friendly
Amazing place for lunch. Very well seasoned and sauced food. Highly recommend the chefs special - Basil Eggplant with Chicken and Prawns. It tastes amazing!
I visited on a Sunday evening and almost didn't go in— although their phone was ringing off the hook with delivery orders, I was one of two people eating inside. The food was fantastic. Absolutely fantastic. The pot stickers were large and made in house. Perfectly seasoned meat with that great combination of crispy yet chewy dumpling. I had a special meat Kung po with beef, chicken, and shrimp with a side order of white rice. Spiced well for flavor and great portion. I'm so happy I walked in and can't wait to do so again.
Ordered the sauces version of beef chow fun. This is not on there menu so you have to place the order on the phone or in person.

The orange chicken was amazing. Great flavor and the meat was quality. The bbq pork fried rice was just ok. Good but I've had better
Wow. I love me some Chinese food and this place is definitely a new go to spot. I've walked by this restaurant so many times but never ate here. Shame on me. The food is so damn good, nice portions and the staff is super friendly. It's not pricey like most other restaurants throughout the city. Check them out. You won't be disappointed.
Good tasty food ... son's favorite chow fun place!
Walked into this place by total chance. Got the veggie chowmein and eggplant with chicken and prawns and it was awesome. This is the type of Chinese food you wanna eat to cure a hangover, just a perfect combo of flavor, and the right amount of greasy. The eggplant was cooked to perfection, it melted in your mouth. Their menu is a-la-carte style so not ideal for an individual person unless you’re really hungry or want leftovers! Would definitely go back to try some of their other dishes.

I was looking for Chinese food around the neighborhood and found this place on Yelp. I am not disappointed. We ordered a hot and sour soup and an egg flour soup. Both were very good. Maybe a little bit on the salty side, then we had string beans, shrimp and broccoli (very yummy), sesame beef and white rice. I would say that if the white rice was a little more soft and moist, that would have made my day today! Friendly staff. Tasty food!
I told the lady taking my order that I didn’t want any rice and paid for a whole side order of what I want and she still gave me a lunch combo with rice. 🤦🏽♀️
Solid Chinese lunch spot. You can tell there are many regulars here and this place is a text book example of hardy American Chinese food. Freshly fried generous portions with the right amount of char in the noodles with a sprinkle of aromatics. Service is quick and efficient.
Ate here with extended family and tried a variety of dishes. As an Americanized Korean, I was quite impressed with how the food tastes. Here is my honest review of each menu item I’ve tried. Pot Stickers: 9/10 With all the good reviews on this, I had high expectations. It is still really really good. Very Crispy and good flavor, I just thought it would be better. (picture included) Orange chicken: 10/10 My favorite out of them all, very very good. Amazing texture, so so yummy. 100000% recommend. Mongolian beef: 9/10 Very good. Rich flavor. Definitely recommend. Sweet and Sour pork: 7/10 Good texture but something in the sauce was a bit unexpected, although it was still overall pretty good. (picture included) Kung Pao chicken: 7/10. Very spicy, beware. Beef Chow Mein: 9/10 Not a huge fan of chow mein but this was really good. Singapore style rice noodles: 9/10 Pretty good, authentic flavor. Normally something I would not like, but I enjoyed this dish at this restraunt. (picture included) Prawn and Scallop with black bean sauce: 4/10. Server recommended this to us when we asked for a mildly spicy seafood dish, however it did not meet my expectations at all. Salt and Pepper Fish: 8/10. Delicious but a tad bit too salty for my taste. Beef chow fun: 7/10 exactly how you’d think it would taste like Service (7/10) was less than ideal as the one server was sitting at her desk watching shows at a loud volume. Wish she paid a tad bit more attention to a party of 9.
Easy to find and convenient Chinese restaurant on Van Ness Ave. Service was decent but not conversational. Food portions were ok size which makes the prices of each dish ok as well. If you are craving Chinese on a workday lunch break, this is a decent place.

I like their tasty food. This is my "go to" place for Chinese food close to work. I love their basil chicken or shrimp!

Some of the food was good, but some was VERY disappointing. My Mushu pancakes came in a solidified, hard, rock of dough. They had all congealed into one lump and it was inedible. Also, the "fried rice" I ordered was just steamed rice and broccoli. No egg, seasoning, onions, or fried aspect to it. The egg rolls were good, and my companion said the sweet and sour pork was good.
While staying at the Holiday Inn on Van Ness, I got delivery one night. Ordered Pot stickers (appetizer) and Orange Chicken for dinner. The pot stickers were the fattest ones I have ever seen. We live on the east cost and these looked like fried dumplings, only 3 times the meat inside. They were ok, but to make them very good or great you need a good dipping sauce. They gave you a packet of sauce (gyoza sauce). Lame. Therefore, they remain just ok. Those that cannot make a good sauce doing a disservice to their business. (I am used to getting a great home made sauce from my local Chinese restaurant. It isn't hard to make dipping sauce. I make a decent one, myself when at home. I have yet to crack the recipe of my local place. I have asked for the recipe, but they won't give it to me.) The Orange Chicken was pretty generic. Breaded chicken in an orange colored glaze. Not great tasting, not bad tasting... just meh. Delivery was quick and it filled two bellies with no left overs. Ordered from lunch from Bamboo the day before. They are worlds part in taste/flavor. Bamboo was much better. But I didn't see pot stickers/dumplings on Bamboo's menu and was in the mood for them.
Food was EXCELLENT compared to Vegas Chinese. Delicious and unique flavors on similar dishes too. Was delivered to hotel 2.blocks away, over an hour. Can't rate decor really. Not that expensive either, ordered 5 items for $50 with delivery.
I ordered online on the website for takeout. I should have known better to verify what I got before leaving there. When I got home, I found they had given me vegetarian chow mein in place of beef fried rice. The wrong item was even listed on the receipt. I double-checked my browser history to make sure I had ordered correctly because their website never mailed me an order confirmation. It would have taken too long to return to the restaurant because I had hungry guests.
We arrived too late to eat in, so we took food to go. Ordered Singapore style noodles, the spice was good, noodles cooked nicely. Egg rolls were really greasy. Hot and sour soup was not very good. Service was quick and food was hot.
I was in the mood for some delicious food so I stumbled across wok shop cafe the service was definitely not professional at all but the kung pao chicken it was so delicious however for the price the portions are small.

Update: They got bought out and with the new ownership the food quality has taken a turn for the worse. Everything tastes very bland now, I've given it several chances, but it's just not the same. Consistently delicious food. I'm a vegetarian, and have fallen in love with the hot and sour soup, kung pao tofu, and the vegetable lo mein.
Ordered takeaway last night. Food is sub par for San Francisco. It did not taste fresh. The american-chinese comfort food, sweet and sour chicken was so chewy it was as if it was jerky, or badly freezer burned chicken. Beef, blah, refried rice blah. The Egg rolls were actually pretty good.
Ordered the sesame chicken. It was inedible. Poor quality chicken, I tried 5 different pieces and each bite was fat/stretchy chunks. Sometimes you get one piece like that in your whole order but this was every bite. I also ordered the crab puffs, they were a bit dry but at least decent. I highly recommend you not order from here.
The cashier was very rude, completely dismissive when we try to add more order. We order chicken chowmein, wild pepper, Ginger scallion fish filled and another Singapore style noodle. The Ginger Scallion testless. The only order we enjoyed was the wild pepper checken. What really disappointed us was the way the cashier interacted with us, veryyy RUDE!!!!
I have been coming here for over 2 years and enjoyed the food and had not had an issue until today but I am very disappointed because I found a dead roach in my to go food. It was in the bottom so I had already eaten some but now I feel like throwing up. This is completely gross and unacceptable.
I was walking by this place and decided to give it a try. I placed an order for chow mein over sweet and sour chicken, and was told by the man that I can only order them separately as entrees, which I did. Turns out instead of an entree of chow mein, I got a small take out box of it worth half the price I can get anywhere else. $12 for a small take out box of chow mein? Very hard to justify. 1 star.
Might be a good spot for dining in but don't order for delivery. Confusing menu items; should be chow mein, chow fun, OR fried rice not AND fried rice. I thought I was getting a combo plate and ended up with fried rice only which was dried out and flavorless. 2 egg rolls were ok but nothing to rave about. I understand that the restaurant has no control over delivery fees but a $2.50 service fee was a bit much. My $13.90 "dinner" bill ended up over $22 with various fees, taxes, and tip. I wouldn't usually mind but for this food? Bleh.
