Great restaurant with a great variety of food choices, love the calamaristeak and marinated meat. However, server was not. Our server doesn't greet us or smile the entire time, no friendly service until a little before she gave us the bill and ask if we need anything else (FINALLY!!!), guess she fugure it'stips time. When we first arrived, we were going to ask for water, she looked away like she was not the one who served us, but she was!!! She finally came to ask what we want after approx. like 20 mins or so, we were about to leave as we got no services n no water for the time being... And at the end, there came another lady who came by and checked on us, asked us if we need anything else with smile while taking the bill payment. That lady was much better and we all were saying if that's the lady who served us at the beginning, we would have a better experience.

Gen used to be a very popular place for Korean bbq. I remembered we used to wait for up to an hour for seats. However, nowadays there is no wait at all for a seat during lunch or dinner. We recently went here for lunch and we were surprised how empty it was. Maybe because of it the food options were pretty affordable. We ended up spending about $53 for 2 during lunch. About $21/person + tips. The atmosphere is great and modern. Food was decent although the selection and quality were not the best during lunch. However it was a meat buffet style so can’t complain. Nowadays, lunch anywhere is costing an arm and a leg so at a place like this. It’s very reasonable and a great atmosphere if you’re into meat buffet. We got some soft tofu soup at the end to wash it all down as well.

Fun location, plenty of food, great service and good prices. Overall we enjoyed our meal. I wish they had more side options. The drink selection was great including 3 Korean beers and more soju than I could count. Our server was very accommodating and went out of our way to make sure we were satisfied.

Returned here last weekend to try again after the decrease in hype. Previously, the wait times were long during all hours on the weekends and weekday dinners. The atmosphere continues to be great for the younger crowds and young-at-heart, especially for dinner with music thumping and neon lighting piercing through the darkness...like a club. Dinner pricing was the same for lunch on weekends, which we came at noon last Saturday with the restaurant being barely half filled. Previously, there would be a line at the same time. Service was great and expeditious, 5*. There were varieties of meats and a few seafood items such as calamari and shrimp. However, competitor meats and options have outshined them. Veggies and salad were available and appeared fresh. Overall food and selections, 4*.

We had a pretty decent sized group, table of 6.. On a friday night, we arrived at 9:30 pm and was finally seated by 10:15. Kind of a long wait.. But well worth it!! We downed a whopping 16 plates in the 2 hours we were there and left the restaurant with a dmike on our face and belts undone. Service was a bit distant at times.. But when flagged down they came to help immediately. My top 3 favorite meat choices were the brisket slices, the Hawaiian beef, and the calamari steak! You can't go wrong with either of those! Will definitely be coming back again soon!

We've been to multiple Gen BBQ's and this was unfortunately the worst. Went on a Saturday for lunch so dinner prices only, not a problem but multiple items were out. Our server had too many tables and her anxiety was contagious. The manager seemed disconnected with her workload as he focused on rearranging chairs. The additional servers were great and their attitudes were nice. Not enough room for a group of 5 on a 4 person table. Plates stacking up everywhere. Overall I would not go back to this location.

Tasty as usual, but the speed of the service is very slow. Poor quality plates and grills(contaminated). Felt a little uncomfortable that I had to ask for water three times to get it which took over 30 minutes.

We arrived early for dinner but the server wouldn't give us a booth seat or a bigger table, instead they led us sit at a small table at the end of a long table outside the noisy kitchen. So it was not the best first-timer experience that we wanted to have for this holiday season. Food was good, althou some plates and the dessert came very slowly.

FOOD tbh i only like the honey soy beef belly. its the only thing i order when i go. tried hawaiian steak and garlic pork belly. hawaiian steak was a little too sweet for me and the garlic pork belly was a little too salty (you need to eat it with rice) SERVICE lowkey service is really slow. i went during lunch and they only had one cook in the kitchen??? plates were served pretty slow (5-10 min wait). also they ran out of brisket and beef belly because they beeded to freeze the meat and slice it. confused on why they dont do it the night before. also no salad??? ENVIRONMENT sticky floors. pretty cold.

The food was good — not high quality, but decent. However, my main concern was cleanliness. I honestly questioned how they clean their equipment — do they just dip everything in water? 1) The meat scissors were dirty, and we had to ask for a replacement. 2) The grill plate was also dirty. They replaced it several times before bringing one that was somewhat clean, and we still had to wipe it with napkins ourselves. The waitress seemed annoyed when we asked for another replacement. 3) We asked for forks, and most of the ones brought to us were dirty. Eventually, they gave us plastic forks instead. If this is what customers see in front of them, it makes me wonder what the kitchen looks like behind the scenes. We won’t be coming back.

My husband and I had dinner here tonight and unfortunately had a very disappointing experience. At the beginning of our meal, we wanted to order boba milk tea, but our waitress told us they were out of boba. We asked if there was any other milk tea available and she said no. She then mentioned that there was a Heytea next door where we could buy milk tea instead. I specifically confirmed with her that bringing the drink back into the restaurant would be okay, and she said yes. After I brought the Heytea drink back to our table, a very tall man who identified himself as the manager, Joe, came over. He leaned over our table with his hands on it and spoke in a very firm and confrontational tone, telling us that outside drinks were not allowed. His attitude was extremely rude and uncomfortable, and the way he spoke felt more like he was scolding us as if he were our boss rather than speaking to customers. We explained that we had asked our waitress beforehand and were told it was okay because the restaurant did not have milk tea available. At that point he repeatedly emphasized that he was the manager and that outside drinks were against restaurant policy, and then claimed that they actually did still have milk tea available. This was extremely confusing and frustrating, because we only bought a drink from outside after confirming with the waitress. If we had been told the correct policy from the beginning, we obviously wouldn’t have done that. Eventually he said we could keep the drink “this one time,” but the entire interaction had already made the experience very uncomfortable. We told him that this would be our last time dining here. He then asked if we still wanted milk tea, but by that point we simply asked him to leave us alone so we could finish our dinner. Later, our waitress came back and apologized to us. She also mentioned that there were other tables with outside drinks, but the manager only came to our table and she didn’t know why. That made the situation feel even more unfair, because it seemed like we were singled out and confronted for something that other tables were doing without any issue. On top of that, we paid an additional $20 per person for the premium dinner menu, yet several premium meats were already out of stock even though it was only around 8:00 PM. For some of the items that were available, we waited about 30 minutes before they were brought to our table. Between the confusing communication, the manager’s rude and confrontational attitude, being singled out over the drink issue, the out-of-stock premium items, and the long wait times, the overall dining experience was very disappointing. We will not be returning.

Food quality is so bad, grill net has tons of burnt stuff and dust when they literally just put it. Took me 20mins and three times of reminding just to get two cups of water, because of the food quality issues we didn’t finish two plates of meat but they still charge us leftover fee. All the plates they gave us were oily, maybe the person who was washing the dishes was sleeping. DONT GO HERE

Gens is one of my go-to’s and I usually go to the Fremont location. I have tried this location about 3-4 times due to long wait times at the Fremont location and have been disappointed every single time. Hosts and waiters seem like they are more interested in talking than actually providing service. Seems like there is no wait time for a reason.

I am writing to express my concern regarding the behavior of the hostess (Elyse) (not sure I spelled it right) during my recent visit. Her manner of communication was both rude and disrespectful, and she made several comments and gestures that came across as condescending and intended to make patrons feel incompetent. Specifically, she insisted that I had been told to place my name at the hostess desk. However, she was fully aware that I was not standing at the hostess desk at the time and could have easily approached me directly to explain the process. Instead, she chose to speak to me in a dismissive tone, implying that I had failed to follow instructions. Later, when I approached the desk to ask when our party would be seated, she looked at me as though she had never seen me before and stated that she had already seated over 20 people and did not remember who I was. This response was unnecessary, unprofessional, and made the situation even more uncomfortable. The overall interaction left me feeling disrespected and frustrated. I believe that customer service should be handled with courtesy, patience, and professionalism, and this experience unfortunately fell far below that standard

I’ve been to gen plenty of times, but this one in particular never works out. Service here really sucks, you will wait about 30-40 minutes for items. The servings are terrible, so you have double order meats or you are going to spend the time waiting for more food. There’s very little acknowledgment in this location. I highly recommend going somewhere else.

we waited 15 min to be seated when more than 75% restaurant was unused tables. it took half hour to take our order. we had our meat with no sides or sauce because it arrived at the very last. nobody checked on us. it wasn’t even busy. the front desk girl was rude and ignoring brushing off our questions like we said nothing. there was issue with checkout we waited too long. horrible experience. it was my 5th and last time. first 4 times were decent and i kept coming back but today was unacceptable. the only hard working person today was Kyle. he was attentive and very friendly and he was doing the most. other staff from the floor and hosts were socializing giggling standing behind bar talking while Kyle was running around.

Gen Korean Food? More like "When? Korean Food." (And a food poisoning cautionary tale if you eat here) We waited 15 minutes to be seated, the restaurant was mostly empty, maybe 10 tables taken. 30 open and empty. Upon seating nobody took a drink order for 10 minutes. She finally came and took our order. We got some meat, appetizer, rice and waters for me and my wife. Then we waited another 10 minutes, nothing. Waitress comes by with the side dishes (ban chan). No word just sets them down. Another 10 minutes, they put some of our meat order on the table. No rice and no water or appetizers. I complain to the guy at the front and then the waitress rudely comes up to me and says "I'm waiting eight tables" ok understandable so its a poorly managed restaurant that is understaffed. By the time we started cooking 50 minutes of waiting happened. Thats not how a Korean bbq ayce works. At Q-Pot we would've left already full at that time. This is a bad bad bad dining experience, they're lucky i didn't ask for refund bc we ended up getting food poisoning later.

What happened to this place? We ate here today because my son loves Gen BBQ, but it was such a disappointment. When we arrived, the restaurant wasn’t even busy. We were seated by a lady not in uniform (maybe a manager?), and she took our order without writing anything down. Not surprisingly, three of our items never arrived. Meanwhile, several staff members were just standing around chatting instead of helping customers including the lady who seated us. I raised my hand multiple times and was completely ignored. When we finally got someone’s attention, we had to reorder, but the meat took forever to arrive, and even then, not everything came. What did come out looked low quality. By then, we had waited so long we lost our appetite. We ended up canceling the rest, walked to the counter to pay (since who knows how long it would take for the check), and left. Never coming back.
