Opinions de Holder's Country Inn San Jose
This place has a long menu, good portions, good prices, lots of space, and GReat people serving.
This place is known more for breakfast; however, we have been pleasantly surprised by their dinner fare. The Braised beef ravioli and pork chops are favorites, as is the steak salad. They always have good soups. Their house salad is generous, as is their entree salads. You can also get wine and beer here.
Very clean and comfy diner. Swedish pancake was great! I had mini breakfast, loved the regular pancakes too. Staffs are very friendly and nice. Became one of my favorite breakfast place.
Holder's is our go to restaurant. We come here so often that they know my 9 year old nephews order. Very friendly staff. They are fast & attentive. Bring out fresh drinks when you are getting low. Asking if you are ready for any dessert. Try the in house made pies peach is my favorite & cakes. We had the German Chocolate last night. Yum.
Very welcoming staff and excellent food. All kind of eggs, made to your liking. This is iHop++, good location, parking can be a challenge if you come in a busy time but it is totally worth it. Come hungry because the quantities are huge.
Listen they may have a 4 and it's understandable place is so busy on weekdays I can imagine weekends ... The food is great the servers are great and the prices are fair ... My family enjoyed our recent discovery and will def visit again. It's a.very busy place so the service may be a little slow but it's worth it ... Thank you holders country inn for a great Friday lunch hour.
Love, love love this place. This is my go to for Breakfast! The service and wait staff, owners are all very very nice. The food is delicious and they never disappoint.
I was very pleasantly surprised with my visit. I had an early dinner there. The staff was all very friendly without being over bearing. I had the special chicken pot pie - it was scrumptious. The crust was golden brown on top and a bit chewy underneath - perfect. The pie filling was seasoned well, the chicken moist, and the vegetables still had a little snap to them. This is how pot pie should be! The meal started with a dinner salad that was crisp, cold, and included kidney beans, jicama, cheese, a few other tasty bits. I haven't been to Holder's in a year and I found this meal to be exceptional. Good, solid comfort food.
Friendly, efficient staff. Clean with appropriate safety measures. Dining available outdoors and a large tented area. We love their omelette souffle. My husband had the eggs benedict which were excellent. Large portions.
Great all American breakfasts available here! places that offer what I consider American breakfast are becoming more rare. My husband prefers an American breakfast over anything fancy or boutiqish and this place more than fits the bill. I ordered the waffles with strawberries and it was fantastic! I look forward to coming back and trying other items on the menu.
Absolutely love this restaurant location and highly recommend. Not only do they have food and pies, but even better is the friendly staff, amazing service, and great management shown by everyone working together and staying on top of their customers. Their breakfast pancakes are awesome and if you want some good linguica and eggs, this is the spot!!! Plenty of vegetarian options - salads, omelettes, etc . Thanks again for a delicious meal.
Is a good place to take breakfast The service is so good and the owners are in this place also and they are so friendly I ask for a cup of coffee and never gets empty until I ask them no to put any more Plates whit steaks are delicious Nice place to enjoy whit the family or friends
Holder's Country Inn Chorizo burrito is amazing. If you have never tried this type of burrito trust me it tastes great here. You should venture out a little bit and consider it. I know you will be happy you did. First of all the cleanliness of this restaurant is excellent. Also management, cooks, servers are all very polite, work very hard, excellent customer service, prices and value of food quality and taste - excellent. I cannot ever say or write anything negative. The food is excellent in taste, quality and price. Do go there and bring, buy for your co- workers, family, spouse, friend and acquaintance. The chocolate cake is amazing. Every time I am in that area I try my hardest to get there and place an order for dinner before they close 7pm. I hope you enjoy their food and service.
Great food and retro-diner ambiance. Super good service. We had the Swiss mushroom burger cooked to order and the breakfast combo with Swedish pancakes. We will return!
I live near this place but at the same time never knew that this restaurant existed. I walked inside and had a contemporary diner vibe. This felt like a much more spacious mix between Denny's and a Black Bear diner. The feeling was very quiet but very welcoming. As soon as I walked in I was seated right away. The menu itself wasn't huge (which I personally prefer) and the layout was easy to read. I ended up ordering the country fried steak and eggs, a favorite of mine. The portion size was on the larger end and it was absolutely delicious. Diane (my server) was very friendly and quite personable. The bottom line is that the quality, price and service has far exceeded my expectations. Granted the decor is somewhat dated but this is absolutely gem to find and I will certainly be returning again to try more of the food here.
I love this small chain of restaurants. No matter which one I go to the menu is always outstanding and offers many different types of dishes. I especially love trying options off of their daily special menu. Portions are always large and prices are reasonable. When you add in the friendly service it makes for a great experience. I highly recommend Holder's Country Inn restaurant.
Me & my wife have been here 3 times so far. Each time I've gotten different things. My favorite would be the chicken fried steak & eggs or even the supreme omelette was on point. I ephod definitely recommend it to anyone asking for a breakfast meal at any time of the day.
My gosh what a great experience! Best breakfast in the Bay area. Ordered the blueberry pancakes and the strawberry pancakes. Fruit is fresh and the pancakes are delicious and moist. Staff is kind, quick, energetic and attentive. Great prices for perfect sized portions.
We've been going to this place forever! My sons always loved going there for weekend breakfast. The Swedish pancakes are killer and I personally think they are the best around. The meal size is good and the service is fast. When its busy we sit at the counter and they take really good care of you there too! Everything on the menu is good. A great choice for comfy food. A lot the the classics are offered so there's lots to choose from. A precept place for a family type meal.
Denver omelet with hash browns & 2 large pancakes. Also biscuits and gravy with extra gravy. Side of bacon was over cooked. BUT STILL LOVED IT. thank you.
Located in a beautiful West San Jose Area down the way from Westgate mall in case you want to do some shopping afterwards. The place was clean and they have a few tvs to watch for those who go out alone. The food was ready so fast it surprised my family and I. The Waiter was nice, very professional, and attentive to our needs. Must check this place out!
Amazing service every time me and my family come here. Always friendly staff food is always top notch will definitely continue coming back!
Had a great breakfast meeting with friends here. The food portions were generous and our waiter was very courteous. We stayed for 2+hours, yet the servers were super friendly. Highly recommended restaurant if you have breakfast meetings.
Bar none the best most speedy service I ever had at a restaurant. I got bacon and eggs, hashbrowns and toast. Perfecly cooked!
Great food, attentive service and just what you'd want from a local coffee shop/restaurant.
Holders Country Inn Review: I ordered the skillet, and it was clearly fresh and made to order. The portion size was just right, with a good amount of food that didn’t feel skimpy. I also got a side of pancakes, and they were some of the best I’ve had in a long time—soft, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. For dinner, I tried the chicken fried steak and gravy, and it was excellent. Everything tasted homemade, like grandma was in the kitchen cooking it herself. The entire meal for three people came out to about $70, which felt fair for the quality and portions. Overall, I was really happy with my experience!
Good food, definitely older crowd than us and we are almost 50 years old.
I came with my two daughters. It was our first time. One daughter had a breakfast with eggs, bacon, hashbrown, and pancakes 🥞 😋 My other daughter ordered a burger with cheese, bacon and fries.🍔 I had a chicken sandwich and delicious soup.🥪 😋. All three dishes were very very yummy, beyond our expectations 😋 . The staff and our server were amazing. They had genuine smiles, refills were on point. They served with great hospitality. Oh and the food order was made and served in a timely manor, which was a big plus. Thank you all at Holder Country Inn in Santa Clara We'll be back for more. I'll bring my husband soon. 🥰
Diner feel with great food, great service and big portions! Serves cocktails also. I love this place!
Holders, you have my heart. Eat at this place on the regular. Consistent and high quality service 👍
It's an upscale diner with a cozy feel. Pies and cake slices are a treat. Food is simple, great tasting, and big plates. Very very busy on Sundays esp lunchtime, but otherwise the servers are both friendly and efficient.
A visit to Holder’s Country Inn restaurant was a delightful journey into American culinary history. The ambiance exuded old-school charm, and I felt like I was in a scene from a classic movie. The service was impeccable, with friendly and attentive staff. As for the food, it was a symphony of flavors. The shrimp and grits were a revelation, and the pecan pie dessert was the perfect sweet ending to a fantastic meal. This place is a true taste of America's culinary heritage.
Ever since I got introduced to their Swedish pancake with berry butter - I get withdrawals n get obligated to revisit 😅🙈! My current favorite (in real food as opposed to kid’s breakfast 😆) is the burrito filled with chorizo 💓. Had the strawberry 🍓 mimosa, that was so good too. Started as our pre winery stop … but now is an essential stop. Tried this location for the first time though - they are pretty consistent everywhere in service.
She told me about Holder's Country Inn, and said it's about the best Diner in the state. Well, after giving her the once over twice, I was hungry, and looking forward to eating there. All I've got to do is finish setting up her Volvatron to wiggle on voice commands and I'll be out of there, and on my way to Holder's Country Inn. My breakfast was Amazing. ☆☆☆☆☆
My husband told me to get the chocolate cake from here and said I'd fall in love with him all over again. He's always right. ❤️ I had issues with my order through doordash, and the owner guided me through the process with patience and understanding. I got my chocolate cake and NY cheesecake. I couldn't resist eating it before the picture 🤷🏻♀️ P.s. the owner of this business is one of a kind 😇 🙏
I went here on a whim- ended up thoroughly enjoying my California Benedict order. I don't know if I've ever been food-drunk before but I legit wanted to take a nap after eating. Like, I had to drive home and lay in bed... maybe I'm just getting old... Friendly service and chill atmosphere. I'm almost afraid to go back.
Everything was good! Except when I was leaving, I stopped to buy a piece carrot cake. The guy took it around the other side, and cut the piece, put it in container. After I paid 8 DOLLARS for the cake, I just wanted to see how much he gave me.. Well NOT worth 8 dollars.. he looked at me wheni opened it, I said it's kind of small. He went on to help someone else. I should have returned and got my money back. Also, I think the need to check the cakes, in the evening, it was all dried up.. I was so disappointed!!
I really like the food here. The portion are good for price. The stuff are so kind and helpful. It was a good experience overall. Totally recommended
This old-fashioned dinner satisfied 3 generations of diners! My husband was delighted to be able to have liver and onions--not often offered on menus anymore--and loaded with bacon. He had a very nice, and modestly priced, glass of wine. I loved the crab and avocado eggs Benedict with LOTS of crab and LOTS of avocado. My mom's favorite is the turkey dinner made with thick-cut slices of turkey. My nephew inhaled the berry waffle! To begin with, I wasn't happy with my hash browns, so my server talked to the manager who immediately brought me a replacement serving. I thanked him, and he said, "Of course, it's the right thing to do."
I have been here several times during the last few weeks. I had a Turkey Dinner the first time, with mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy and cranberry sauce. It is real, actual turkey, both light and dark meat, cooked to perfection. The second time I enjoyed Prawn Pomodoro Pasta. It was completely delicious with linguine, tomatoes, spices and large and plentiful shrimp. Both times, I also had fresh, tasty green salads, filled with lettuce, red beans, tomatoes and slices of jicama. I will definitely be returning to dine again. Wait staff is friendly and attentive and the food is of high quality with generous portions, served quickly.
We have been here twice now and it was good food both times. Service is decent. This last time on April 17... was mine and my twin sister's Birthday. We all had great food. They waitress was super nice and attentive to our table. Even gave us 2 mini slices of some yummy apple pie... it was so good, we bought a whole peach pie for $26! It was that good too. Our Birthday was made special. We look forward to going back soon. Sadly, only took a couple pictures. But we got a couple of breakfast dishes, a couple cheeseburgers, and grilled chicken sandwiches... all was delish.
3/5/2022 @ 8:30am. Not crowded yet. Little slow in coffee refills. The meat scrambled eggs are cool and not hot. Plate is cold. Food is bland. First time was 2020, Steak and eggs, pork chops and eggs all juicy. Come early and no wait. Clean and well staffed. Easy access. Lots of parking.
Holders is such standout restaurant amid all the newer, fancy, hip restaurants that come and go. If your looking for fresh, quality food with large portions and an inviting family environment then you have to be here. I've been here hundreds of times for breakfast mostly but also for lunch and dinner. When it comes to dependable comfort food you cannot do better... Love this place.
I often come to country inn for a delicious breakfast. And it is always delicious. I enjoy the strawberry Belgian waffles with a side of bacon. Their orange juice is always amazing. The service is quick and there is never wait to be seated. If youre looking for an amazing home-style breakfast, come to country inn.
Very large and generous portion sizes, good omelet.... coffee average.... but quick refills... pancakes okay... not the finest Marple syrup....overall worth the trip and menu looks good for other options than breakfast too
Their omelettes are fantastic. And huge. Great value for the price. Be prepared to either share an omelette or take home leftovers. Edited to add: Disappointed that they auto charge "large group" tip when it's 6 people but 5 separate checks. 6 people can often be a family with young children and shouldn't be considered a large group.
First time we have been able to go to breakfast in more than a year (thank you pandemic!). It was great to get back to country inn. They followed good Distancing inside and out. The food was as good as ever- I've missed the Swedish pancakes!
Was clean, well lit. Server was friendly and attentive. Portions were good. Food was fine. Sort of standard diner menu. I would go again but it's not my 1st choice.
I order the classic breakfast with bacon and pancakes. I absolutely loved it. My wife ordered an omelette, she liked it but felt like it needed more flavor. Our coffee cups were filled continuously.
Love this place. The food is always great with pleasant service. The decor has not changed in decades and shows with a lot of ware to the furniture. Beware of the booth seats. They have lost their spring. You may as well sit on the floor.
A classic coffee shop with above average food reasonably priced. I've been to it three times, and plan to be back for a 4th. My friends although go once or twice a year for decades and they loved it.
stopped in for lunch with my mom. super quick, friendly and efficient service. food is solid diner type. pancakes are fluffy and tasty. looks like they are redoing the flooring near the bar area ? so the floor and booths are in rough condition. hopefully it gets redone soon.
Great food, except I should've asked for fresh salsa on the side for my supreme omelet, rather than the cooked sauce they put on top. It's my own preference with regard to salsa, otherwise, it was delicious. Really good service. We had a fairly large group and were seated and served quickly.
Food was delicious and hot. Staff was all working hard, but we lacked good service. Got a cup of coffee just before our food came. Received our bill after our server took our card and proceeded it to the table. She brought the actual ticket afterward to do the tip & sign it. Would have preferred to see it first as usual.
Hit or miss when dining here. Service has been nice but runs slower than avg (multiple occasions). Food tends towards good, but asks questions when trying something new... don't have really high expectations. Avoid really busy times, tends to be better when there isn't a huge crowd.
This review is for DINNER time! I love coming here for dinner because it is very quiet. Brunch time here on the weekend is crazy banana! The dinner salad with your entree is superb - decent portion with jicama, kidney beans, tomatoes, cucumbers! If you have room for dessert, get a slice of their pie!!!
Really enjoy the breakfast, but all items we've tried are well prepared and presented. Service is excellent, every time, doesn't matter which server, attention but not overly. A "regular" place for us now!
After having our relaxing massage, my sister saw this place and thought we should go grab some food but when we got in we’ve decided to eat there. We ordered 3 different plates, all are hearty portions and presentation wise. Our meals comes with soup, too. We did not finished our food because were too stuffed to eat everything and just have it to-go. Gave it only 4 stars because Fried chicken is a little bland, Pancakes not fluffy and a bit dry. Will come back though with kids, to try other dishes.
Came here for breakfast with my daughter and we got the strawberry crepes (mouthwatering good!) biscuits and gravy breakfast (four biscuits with two eggs and 2 bacon or 2 sausage) I added the eggs/sausage onto my daughter's crepes for $4 We both loved the crepes and eggs, sausage was OK but Hash House sausage is much better. My biscuits and gravy were ok-I will probably skip them in the future and go for an omelette though. Also tried the strawberries and cream waffle for $10 and it was hands down the best waffle I've ever had! I just wanted to keep eating it even though I was full!!! Way better than the Hash House waffle!!! Service was excellent, food came out quick, whole place is cute and clean, especially the 🚻 restrooms! Will definitely come back! Overall, bill was $40 without tip and included my soda beverage, my daughter had water only. Very reasonable, very good, lots of food!!! Great experience!!! Giving it four stars because b&g and sausage was not the best, but overall it definitely was great!
We went into this location for breakfast on 12/30/21. The menus have not been wiped down or sanitized, they were disgusting to touch. The server was off his normal efficient demeanor. We had to ask multiple times for water, napkins, condiments. Not sure we will go back.
The service is outstanding! It doesn't get any better than this. All the employees are very friendly. The food is OK, but generous servings. My pancakes were below average in quality compared to other restaurants, but the excellent service made up for the food quality.
Country inn locations vary and we decided to check this one out because of the size. Atmosphere was good, not too many people and there's many tables. Now service was something...it could've been better. Took a while to get everything settled for us, like getting our waiter and such. Food was decent, and everything was great. The number of table runners were good and most were friendly and always checking rather than the waiters.
Soup of the day was chicken rice. Soup was ok, tasty. Also had the pork chop with veggies and a baked potato. The pork. Chop was cooked just short of overdone, but was still tasty and slightly juicy, the potato was ok. My wife had bacon, eggs, hash browns, and pancakes. Liked it all. Service was great 👍.
Ive come here plenty of times never had an issue i love their biscuits and gravy and i love their country fried steak. I came on November 27th and ordered the prime rib special. When it was brought it out it had a small white hair on it. The server tried to say it was from the potatoes it did not appear that way. He took it back to the kitchen and brought the same exact plate back after throwing it on the grill, this time way over cooked. At this point i was just hungry and i tried eating it, it was very dry, over cooked very hard to even chew from how dry it was and not well seasoned. At this point i just wanted something else. The server still came back and tried to argue that the meat was perfectly cooked. At this point i just had to go somewhere else and have breakfast. Im not saying i wont ever be back but i will be hessitant to come back and I would never order any sort of prime rib here ever again.
We were here for a quick brunch on a Sunday afternoon. Got seated immediately. The place has more of an old diner vibe to it. Our server was courteous and quick. We had the Santa Cruz scramble (with choice of pancakes on the side) and the swedish pancakes. The swedish pancakes were more like crepe with a berry ice cream to go with it. The crepe wasn't great, had a very strong egg flavor to it. The scramble was decent, had absolutely no seasoning. With salt, pepper and few drops of Cholula it was good. The pancakes were nice, kinda reminded us of pancakes that you get in McD. The hash brown was the best part of the whole meal. It was so crispy and yummy! Overall a standard diner, with nothing exciting to be back about.
Big portions although when I made a request for my hash browns extra crispy my waitress seem to be annoyed, I also asked for one slice of wheat toast and one slice of sourdough. She said her cook might not have time for that . Sure enough I didn't get. What I asked for . The manger seem really nice and took care of it . Now about the pancakes 🥞 seen lots of people eating them but I didn't care for them .but not from here so not sure what to think .
The worst service!! Took my 97 yr old client to breakfast, there were 3 tables of 2 ppl, our order 2 continental 1 w/ pancakes. Took for ever to get served, when your order was brought out the food was cold, pancakes like cardboard, bacon taste like old grease, toast wasn't toasted. Waited another 5 min for syrup. Asked for water they brought 1 glass, over filled my clients coffee.... Worst worst service!! It's a shame this used to be the. Go To Place for a nice meal
Update: Today the soup was cold and they didn't toast the bread for my club sandwich, both were sent back to the kitchen for repairs. Frustrating when you have to work that hard to have a simple lunch. Service was awful, our waitress didn't seem to care at all (never saw her there before). It was the other longtime waitresses that helped us fix our problems. The prices here are very inflated for what you get. Pleasant food in the style of the American diner. Decent service, but not as good as it used to be. The owners used to be there hosting, but we haven't seen them in months, maybe that's why the service isn't as good. We no longer dine there on Sunday afternoons, as that is when we have encountered the worst service.
Food was okay service was worse order. Patty melt wanted mayonnaise on it didn't get it.. Order wrong we ordered two other burgers for mayonnaise we got the smallest amount possible they can give us how to ask three times for more mayonnaise had to wait at leaste5/7 more minutes to get another refill in our coffee had to coleslaw to put some kind of red sauce in there not your traditional one didn't like that
This was a solid 5 star review until I checked the bathroom. The food was fresh, the service was very fast and the facilities appeared well-maintained. The coffee mugs seemed exceptionally small, but since refills are free it was no big deal. The downfall of this review was the men's bathroom. The bathroom needed physical repairs but the condition of the cleanliness was severely lacking. There was a puddle of urine so large and wide that there was no way to use the urinal without stepping in piss. Totally unacceptable as was the toilet. To flush the toilet a person would have to insert their finger into a hall in the electrical looking box to activate the flush. Obviously the person who had just had a bowel movement decided not to insert their finger. The bathroom was disgusting and that opens the proverbial door into doubts of how the kitchen is maintained. The bathroom was, and is gross.
Odd experience, sadly disappointed after reading reviews. First time eating at this location and last. Waitress seemed nice but didn’t speak English so passed us off to another guy. No issues with this except we still struggled with the server when ordering. Ordered an entrée which included couple of things that didn’t arrive with meal. Seemed odd had to keep asking for items clearly stated on menu that were included. This was awkward asking as waiter’s attitude didn’t seem to care about the service provided. Restaurant only had a few customers which should have been a huge clue to turn around and walk out. Sorry this location is on my list as a do not dine again. Hopefully other location on Wolfe Road is better? Maybe will give it a try sometime.

Got served freezing cold, undercooked fried chicken. Took 20 or 30 minutes for the server to check up on us and at that point I told them to forget getting me another one just take the whole dish out from the bill so I could leave. Service took way too long and they didn't check in so we had to end up waiting like 20 or 30 minutes to ask for things like napkins or water. Our dishes also came seperated so my guest was half done by the time my dish came. Also the appetizers did not come earlier. I can get slow service and the other stuff because it was busy but serving freezing cold, undercooked fried chicken is totally unacceptable. Also got food poisoning the next day
DO NOT DINE HERE UNLESS YOU WANT YOUR MONEY STOLEN! Went here twice. The first time a waiter tried to make us tip twice but we caught it. The second we weren’t so lucky. We got three meals and two iced teas. The check came out to about $60 but we left paying over $85. We were not told the waitress added a $15 tip for herself then proceeded with the payment that asked for another tip. Since we didn’t pick up on it, we left her a $10 tip so she ended up with a $25 tip. Once we realized we were over charged, we called the restaurant and there was no answer. My grandma went to the restaurant today to confront the staff and they were not helpful. They started talking amongst themselves as if they knew what was going on. The whole staff is shady and is taking money from their customers. There are a lot of elderly patrons who dine there so I wouldn’t be surprised if they are taking advantage of that. I’m 22 and I was not able to realize I was being scammed. Don’t leave without looking at the check!
This place stole ~$300 worth of power banks and all of the chargers along with them from me, a homeless woman that only used the electricity out of absolute necessity and most certainly not the only person that did. They then tried to lie and say they didn't but I had an air tag inside of one of them. Nice try. Yes, the electricity thing isn't great but far less of a moral failing than stealing necessary devices from homeless people to "teach them a lesson". Now I have to steal electricity far more often and waste hours out of every day. Machismo is spreading and detrimental to all women and it just oozes out of these guys. Like pestilence.
I just ordered a coffee , tea and apple pie. The coffee was smelly and tasted stale. And the Pie was straight from the fridge close to freezing temperature . Would not recommend anyone to go to this place for any hot beverages and pies!!!!!!
Where are the Holders! 🤷♂️ this place has drasticlly changed! The food is Horrible! The staff is rude! They gave me pancakes with no syrup and butter! Its extremely racist! And I will never eat here again!
