Favorite Vietnamese coffee shop in Bay Area. Eggspresso is special. But coconut freeze is even better! The coconut smoothies on top is so refreshing! And they put coconut flakes on it. They also have Ube coffee. I like that sugar level is adjustable. I usually go with 50%. The parking lot is limited so I recommend you to order online and pick it up.

I was in the area looking for a viet coffee and this placed caught my eye with its great reviews. It did not disappoint. I couldn't decide so I got two drinks. Both were great and as well as the price.

A friend of mine recommended I check this place out. Specifically for their salted iced coffee with cold foam. I promptly thanked them for the recommendation when I next saw them. This drink was so creamy and delicious. It was surprisingly salty, but not in an off-putting way. Also, the staff were friendly and very fast with making the drink. I'd gladly return.

Always on the lookout for a good boba shop! Lacáphé Is officially my favorite new coffee shop for the mid-afternoon work Boba order. My office is about 6 minutes away so if I place an order using their square site ordering link in Google maps, my drinks are ready when I get there. Right now, my favorite is their Saigon freeze, 50% sweet, add a shot of espresso and egg cream on top. If you like it super not sweet, leave the egg cream off. They do not have food, but there are plenty of places nearby that have great food available quickly. As far as crowds go, the first time I went during lunch time it was absolutely packed. Not a single chair left. The next day, Friday, I went at the same time and the place was empty but plenty of orders coming in. Ordering ahead is always a good idea even if the place isn't crowded. If you want delivery, the only service they use is Uber Eats. Not one I would use but I'm happy to pick up my order.

First thing first, coffee is 🔥 💣. Ordered the Ube and eggs presto Hanoi. Ube coffee was at 75% sweet and added egg cream. I have had a bunch of Ube coffee based drinks before and this is actually one of my favorites. Texture was smooth and creamy, 75% was sweet enough to not over power and still taste the ube. Eggspresso Hanoi is more coffee forward, so if you want the custard/smooth texture and more bitter, then order this. We ordered it 50% and think we shoulda went up to 75% for this order. (Mind you I don’t like overly sweet things in general) Line: we got here during a rush. 11:30am on a Saturday. Prolly 13 people in front of us. Took about 10ish mins to order and 8-10 to get the drinks. One register and 6 people making drinks. Highly recommend the hype of this place but this would prolly be a great spot versus an everyday coffee fix. Inside, not too many seats. I don’t really think of this as a long hangout spot or study place. But you definitely still can do that if you find space.

Got the eggspresso hanoi (hot) which was delicious and they gave a cozy hour discount and included a very kind handwritten holiday note with the drink :) I got a second drink to go (with altered sweetness on behalf of another individual) and they even offered to alter my current drink the same way in case it wasn't to my liking which was very thoughtful of them to ask. Great flavors and atmosphere, 10/10 would go again

Ordered the egg coffee ahead on their website to avoid the wait. I think the coffee was pretty standard. When ordering online, I appreciated how you could adjust the ratio of coffee and egg. I opted for less coffee to help me not stay up all night 😅 The drink cost about 7$, which I think is standard. The spot is a small shop with a few tables. It does get very crowded on the weekends. Overall will be back to try the ube coffee!

highly recommend placing order online for pick up as the lines can get long on the weekends. we were eating next door and had our drinks as a dessert. the mango is fresh and the house special perfectly proportional: not too sweet, milky or coffee-strong.

J
Jonathan

Loved the egg coffee! A must have at this shop, I’d also order online to make the pick up process easier rather than waiting in line. When I arrived there was quite a line but I was able to use their order page online that’s posted in the front of the shop to make myself skip the line and just wait for my drink.

The parking lot sucks but if you can look past that you’ll find a pretty good tea shop; I’d say it’s Vietnamese but don’t quote me on that. There’s some unique teas here I haven’t seen in other places like the avacado milk tea, lotus tea, and egg coffee. I opted for the avacado milk tea and I enjoyed it; it’s very creamy. Service is pretty fast, too. Right next door is a well renowned bun bo hue restaurant too.

Really good ube coffee if you want a strong ube flavor. The egg coffee is also good. Limited seating and I heard they're busy at times so I would order ahead!

La Caphé is a Vietnamese coffee shop in San Jose. The interior is minimal with cute and well-taken pictures of their drinks on the wall. The inside was very clean and had seats, but the space is on the smaller side. It was very crowded, but they managed to make the drinks quickly. They have many options on their menu. I tried the iced avocado latte with regular sweetness and oolong boba and the iced Hanoi latte with extra sweetness and oolong boba. Both of the drinks not only looked aesthetic, but they also were really good. The avocado latte consisted of a regular latte with smooth and creamy avocado on the bottom. This was my favorited drink! The oolong boba had the same consistency as regular ones but were soaked in oolong tea, and you can taste a hint of it. If you like your coffee a bit on the sweeter side or if Vietnamese coffee is normally too strong for you, I recommend getting extra sweet for the Hanoi latte. Overall, I think there drinks were really good and would definitely come back to try their other options!

Highly recommend the signature Saigon, I prefer it over the eggspresso Hanoi. It gets very busy here but service is fairly fast. The line is sometimes seen coming out the door. I usually request light ice but I feel like sometimes they don’t really pay attention to my request. The signature Saigon is probably my favorite coffee, I wish they had more locations!

It’s difficult finding a good Ca Phe Trung (Viet Egg Coffee). After having the tasty one from Nep Cafe in SoCal, I was hoping to find something closer to home up north in San Jose. Well Lacaphe has a solid one called the Hanoi-style Egg Coffee. I like to get mine 50-75% sweet. It’s not too thick and the egg foam mixes well with the coffee. Their Ca Phe Muoi (Viet Salted Coffee) is also very good. There are a few seats but generally you’ll probably get your coffee and be on your way out if it’s busy. I’ve seen lines of 20+ people out the door. In the morning during the week it seems a lot more chill.

Absolutely divine banana matcha, fruit teas are good as well with the perfect sweetness. It does get crowded since the space is small but lines really go by fast and the workers are so efficient! Not sure if it’s family owned but the vibes are there, prices aren’t bad as well

Great drinks here at Lacaphe. Located near great restaurants so it’s a good spot to visit in general. The parking is pretty bad in the plaza. It’s just so busy that you may want to look into parking outside the lot in the neighborhood. There are a lot of good drinks on the menu for you to try. The Banana matcha was our favorite. We subbed for oat milk, and I would get this one again. The Ube was okay. I didn’t get much of the Ube flavor in it. It was just kind of bland. Overall I liked Lacaphe. I would come back here!

Lacaphe is a new hip Vietnamese coffee shop that has been buzzing near little saigon. Overall it has a cute vibe and nice coffee shop aesthetic to it Be aware as it is a Vietnamese coffee shop their drinks prolly run sweeter than the typical American drinks so get 25% less than ur usual They have a variety of tea and coffee drinks and are super fast (got my drink within 2 minutes from ordering) The ube latte was very strong and for 25% sweetness was just right. Parking during peak hours might be difficult so u might needa find street parking Overall would recommend if ur in the area!

The egg coffee here is superb—rich, complex, and perfectly balanced. It’s served in the traditional style, with plenty of ice. As another reviewer mentioned, please don’t complain if they can’t make it “no ice”—this isn’t Starbucks! Vietnamese coffee is traditionally served with a lot of ice to balance the intensity and bitterness of Robusta coffee beans. Unlike drinks made with Arabica beans (commonly used in American and European cafes), drinks made with Robusta beans require a different preparation method, and this place does it right. The sweetness is adjustable, and I personally found my sweet spot at 50%. The egg cream topping is also just right—creamy, flavorful, and in perfect proportion. This drink proves that Vietnamese coffee is truly world-class and uniquely Asian. On a hot day, the Coco Freeze at 50% sweetness is phenomenal as well—refreshing, flavorful, and well-balanced.

I heard of this place when I was doing an externship at a health clinic last year. So, this is my first time at this place. I decided to come here wanting to treat myself. There was only one kiosk and there was this other customer who was taking a long while. I was thinking of ordering online instead and another customer behind me decided to ordered at the front due to that. I ordered at the kiosk when there's no one there. I ordered their signature drink Lotus with 75% sweetness and a Strawberry Matcha Latte with 75% sweetness as well. Lotus has a floral aftertaste which is not bad, most teas does have a floral aftertaste. It reminds me of the very fragrant white flower. As for the Strawberry Matcha Latte, their Matcha is strong and not overly bitter. It was good. Both of the drinks are good. There were plenty of parking spaces since I went in the morning.

Went here on 4th of July. I was prepared for them to be closed because of the holiday, but to my surprise it was open. I went around 8am and there was already like four people waiting on their drinks. The decor inside is nice with flowers around. The place is small so I would not recommend to hang around. I loved how the menu showed which drinks you are able to get hot. I got the coco freeze and it was just the right amount of coffee and coconut flavored. I am definitely going back and trying their matchas.

Modern Vietnamese coffee shop, famous for good reason! Everyone was getting the Eggspresso Hanoi, and after getting it myself, I understand why! Really great egg cream, but the coffee itself was absolutely delicious on its own too. The staff were incredibly nice and recommended 25% sweetness which was perfect. It gets really crowded, but they get the drinks out very fast, just be prepared to take it to go since seating is extremely limited.

My favorite Vietnamese coffee (egg, salt, cream)! You can adjust the sweetness and ice level. 50% sweetness is the perfect dessert style drink. You can do 25% or 0% sweetness too! I like that their coffee is fragrant and nutty and doesn't taste burnt. Their coconut coffee comes with grass jelly. It's different from what I typically prefer but it's still very nice.

Cozy and Unique Lacàphê in San Jose is a delightful coffee shop with a cozy atmosphere. I loved their unique menu, especially the Ube coffee, Eggspresso Hanoi and Oolong boba. The staff were friendly and helpful, making the experience even better. Though seating is limited and parking can be tight, the quality of the drinks makes it worth the visit. Highly recommend!

Pretty good Vietnamese coffee. I got their Muoi coffee and Nau cafe (for my husband). The coffee is strong 💪 and not so sweet. I have higher expectations for the salted coffee as it’s been so trendy, but I got disappointed as it’s not even as good as the traditional cafe my husband ordered. I will try their signature eggspresso next time.

I have been wanting to try this place for a while because they are well known for their Vietnamese coffee. Parking is not hard. It’s in the same plaza as taco bell. The store itself is small with limited seating. The menu has a variety of options like coffee, tea, and boba. The order comes out pretty fast, and you can order online in advance. Eggspresso hanoi: vietnamese coffee w egg cream. The egg cream is not too sweet and adds creaminess to the coffee. Nau: classic, strong vietnamese coffee

I came here with low expectations, but everything felt surprisingly smooth and well-organized. The trail was the best part. Lacaphe has changed so much! It used to be just a tiny coffee stand, but coming back after a few months, I was so happy to see the new, expanded space. There’s now plenty of room to sit back, relax, or get some work done. The atmosphere is great, whichs very similar to Starbucks! The drinks are still as delicious as ever. I really appreciate the extra space. It's much better than the old, cramped setup where it felt a bit suffocating when crowded. 10/10!

Eggspresso - It's ok. Gimmicky but taste average. The coffee flavor is good though. Uber coffee - 1 star for me. This is not taro creamy flavor coffee. May be they should make that instead. The Ube taste different than the Ube ice cream I had at other places. It tastes more like yam. It just didn't taste right nor good. If you think this is like a taro milk kind of flavor you will be disappointed. Coconut coffee - Excellent! The best of the 3 I tried. Very rich coconut flavor and the coffee was excellent. It doesn't taste like artificial coconut syrup flavor. Very rich coconut cream flavor indeed. That's the reason for the 4 stars.

Tried the eggpresso hanoi, 3.5*, decent but not better than competitors. Surprisingly, the house milk tea with oolong pearls was quite good. Aromatic and strong caffeine, initial first few sips appeared to be slightly milky and creamy on the palate but afterwards, the aroma and tea overpowered at the finish. After a third cup, felt the caffeine. 4*. Will revisit to see if this is consistent.

Eggpresso Hanoi was perfect with 25% sweet and less ice. The new Thai latte was also flavorful with 25% sweet. Service was fast, and the staff was nice. It's a small shop, so there is not much decorations or comfortable settings like many other booming coffee shops in the area.

We got the egg coffee and coconut coffee. I did not make any changes to the sweetness level. The egg cream was on point. The coffee itself does not come off as bold and strong but it sure kept me up. The coconut coffee tasted decent. Since the coffee was not as strong and it mixed with the sweet coconut slushy, I would recommend cutting back on the sweetness level for both drinks to enhance the coffee flavor.

As someone who deeply appreciates the evolution of food traditions, I want to clarify a common misunderstanding I often encounter in reviews of Vietnamese coffee. This shop offers a modern take on Vietnamese coffee, characterized by a hazelnut-forward flavor. While it may not be a strictly “authentic” preparation, one fact remains true: Vietnamese coffee is significantly stronger than what you’ll find at Starbucks, Coffee Bean, or most American-style coffee shops. A single glass can easily contain as much, if not more, caffeine than a Starbucks grande latte. The reason for this strength lies in the type of beans used — Vietnamese coffee is typically brewed with robusta beans, rather than arabica. Robusta beans have nearly double the caffeine content of arabica and offer a more intense, earthy, and naturally nutty flavor. This results in a thicker, crema-rich brew with a bolder edge, a defining characteristic of Vietnamese coffee. Traditionally, Vietnamese coffee is served over ice (cà phê sữa đá). The ice is not just for chilling; it helps balance the intensity of the robusta, making the drink smoother and more enjoyable. Some customers unfamiliar with the tradition may feel they are given “too much ice,” but that’s exactly how it is meant to be served. Without enough ice, the flavor could be overpowering. Conversely, when ordered without ice, you’re requesting the undiluted concentrate; as a result, the portion size is smaller. This isn't a case of the business skimping; it’s the proper measure for something so potent. Think of it as ordering espresso rather than a venti cold brew. For first-time drinkers, the iced version is both the most authentic and the most approachable. If you prefer your coffee without ice so you can add ice later, be prepared for a compact serving — its strength compensates for its size, just as intended. Before leaving a negative review about “small portions” or “too much ice,” I encourage visitors to understand the cultural and culinary context. Vietnamese coffee, whether in its traditional form or with a modern twist, emphasizes boldness and balance rather than sheer volume. Recognizing this difference will give you a more positive experience and give credit to the businesses that introduce these traditions to our communities.

Novelty drinks with salted cream on sweet coffee (Saigon special) and salted coffee itself (Muoi) that were just ok. Crowded space with very basic furnishing that gets quite loud when it fills up on the weekend afternoon when we came. Although not their fault, parking situation is horrendous. Overall, too many cafes that are way cozier than this, making it unlikely that we’ll return.

This is my review after their renovations. Everything on the menu has gone up by about 50 cents, which might be a small annoyance to some people. However, my main disappointment was with the coffee, it just wasn’t as good as before. I ordered the Eggpresso Hanoi, but it was very underwhelming. The coffee tasted watered down, lacking the strong, rich flavor it used to have. On the bright side, they’ve expanded the space with new seating and tables. The atmosphere is very pretty and aesthetic, and it’s definitely more comfortable to sit and relax now. Still, the coffee was a letdown for me. Personally, I’d prefer the stronger coffee flavor and pricing at Duc Huong Sandwich, since things at Lacaphe have changed quite a bit.

The coffee was served hot and smooth, with a mild flavor that felt simple and easy to drink. The aroma was faint, pleasant but not strong enough to linger. It had a clean finish, though it lacked depth. Overall, it was fine to enjoy but nothing stood out.

Came in at 9am on Thanksgiving and there were about 20 customers waiting in line for their drinks with 1 single barista rushing around the bar. I felt bad for him but also annoyed. About 20 minutes later a few other employees started coming in. Management really needs better staffing during busy hours. 9:20 is too late to be fully staffed for a coffee business.

About 20 minutes later a few other employees started coming in. Management really needs better staffing during busy hours. 9:20 is too late to be fully staffed for a coffee business.

0% sugar still tasted sweet for the plain matcha latte. Overall all drinks were extremely sweet — both coffee and matcha. They only offer oat milk other than dairy. The matcha was grassy and not super smooth so the cost was unjustifiable. The store was extremely crowded but service was fast. Some people were studying inside but there were a lot of groups of people.

Came in for some coffee and asked for no ice bc no one likes watered down coffee. This is what I got, it’s not even half the cup. If Lacaphe wants to be cheap and doesn’t want to fill it up all the way, that’s totally fine. At least fill it to 80%, this is absolutely pathetic. I paid $7 for a cup of coffee, not HALF a cup. Love to support local businesses but you guys need to do better!!!

Ordered egg foam coffee with no ice and all I got is like this. I’ve ordered “no ice” from lots of different coffee shops or boba shops, none of them ever gave a customer so little. Really shocked. Customer service is so bad too, it feels like they don’t want to say a word to you. So rude. Worst coffee shop ever.

After the renovation, the quality has gone downhill. The coffee is no longer as good as before, there’s only a hint of coffee flavor and far too much milk, to the point that I had to add an extra shot. On top of that, the customer service was disappointing. When I asked if my order was ready, the staff said “not yet.” When I asked again later, there was no response at all. Overall, the staff seemed unhappy and unwelcoming toward customers.
