Great atosphere next to food !! Great waitresses , Ask for Tonya she wont let you down !Sourdough burger is awesome ! Quesadillas next on my favorites !!
Good food, priced fairly but I especially like the waitress, will definitely eat there again, made it worth the travel
Love this place, friendly staff! My favorite meal is the grilled catfish and summer squash plate, served on a hot cast iron pan!
This place is amazing! My favorite plate is the Pollo Con Calabasa! The managers are so sweet and do anything and everything to accommodate you. This is my go-to restaurant 💕
Great food! It hit the spot. Staff was very friendly.
Great food & friendly staff. They dont serve alcohol so its BYOB. Highly recommend the skillet fries
Great food amazing service only one server working but he was very good
Just passing thru, so so glad I stopped! Holy guacamole, the food here is AMAZING! staff is so friendly! I want to drive the 2.5 hrs from home to come here again.
Nice atmosphere, great food, good staff. Had seniors plate just the right amount.
Their New York Strip steak is amazingly seasoned and cooked!! Also, the fried okra is perfect, not slimy!
A very cool place to grab a bite to eat, amazing atmosphere and food!
Great place in San Saba. Authentic Mexican food with classic American comfort food too. The service is wonderful and the salsa is endless.
Great Food Large portions. Wait staff was good. Overall A Must Go. Experience.
The food is absolutely phenomenal... the pepper bellys are a meal unto themselves...compliments tonthe chef on the perfect ribeye Saturday night.... unbelievable experience... and if you need help choosing a side, the charro beans are perfect.
Favorite place to stop on my way through. A small restaurant right on the edge of town with the best catfish, steak ranchero, & street tacos. And the sweet tea is reall good
My favorite place to eat when we are in town. Lovely staff, great atmosphere, and amazing food! Ask for Tonya, she's the best! Always happy and ready to serve you!
Amazing food and large portions! Passing through town on a road trip and decided to give this place a try. Very glad we did!! Highly recommend!
The service was very, very good. Our server never let anything get empty. I ordered the jalapeno bacon burger and it did not disappoint. I was not able to finish the burger or the fries. I was very impressed 👍
My friend from Sweetwater, TX and her cousin and I ate at Pepperbelly's yesterday. This was my first time. I had the salad bar and all you can eat catfish (Friday's only for all you can eat). This was the BEST fish I have ever eaten anywhere including Long John Silver's or Red Lobster. I highly recommend PEPPERBELLY'S.
I was introduced to pepperbellys by my friend Gordon Melton for lunch. We come San Saba to guide soldiers for Hunting with Soldiers. My last visit we brought our 2 combat vets in for the all you can eat catfish. Everything I have tried to include my 3rd visit has been excellent. Prices are very reasonable, atmosphere is relaxing and service is top notch. I highly recommend Pepperbellys. Every town in hill country has its own little place visit...wether it's pecan stores, winery or historical places...Im thinking San Saba is Pepperbellys for me. Thanks to my waitress Joslin for awesome service.
The food and the staff were great! I highly recommend getting the bistec ranchero if y’all want something spicy! The steak was tender and cooked correctly!
I had the monterrey burger with onions and mushrooms. Absolutely packed with flavor. Will come here every time I visit.
The service is always great as well as the food! They recently started breakfast which is awesome. I highly recommend the chicken strips or steak!
Their lunch menu is awesome! I got the #3 and loved it! We had the sweetest waitress and it was only her 3rd day, bless her heart! I will be back. I may have it again Monday when I'm back in San Saba!! I highly recommend this Mexican restaurant!
I had the #10 steak ranchero. It was perfectly cooked and came with rice, beans and tortillas. The sweet tea is definitely from Texas it was sooo good. The service was great and the atmosphere was friendly. I'll surely be going back!
My wife and I love Pepperbelly's and have driven there many times from out of town to eat there. Their service has always been outstanding and friendly. We feel always welcome and at home... Like one of the family! Great food. Great value! Say "hi " to manager Tonya, and all the crew for us! (Ask for the "Jim" special, aka Pollo de Corazon) 😉. If they don't have it please tell Ramiro.
I highly recommend this resturant to everyone that visits San Saba. The cooks of the restaurant provided incredible food that was well put together and organized. Our waitress, Marissa, was also very kind and attended to our needs effortlessly. To those who are looking for a very good server, Marissa is the perfect choice. All of the staff was generous, polite, and we will definitely be coming again! This is a resturant that will always be on our list when we come to San Saba from the Northwoods.
Waitstaff was great, restaurant and restroom were clean and the food was good. Rice was a little dry but still flavorful. The refried beans were delicious .
Oh my goodness this was the best food ever.. The homemade tortillas were Amazing 😍.. When we come back this way we're making a point to stop and eat here again. Staff was so polite and Happy.. Love it love it love it...
Dine in experience was great! We went on Friday night, super busy, but our waitress was the best and provided excellent service. Recommend steak ranchero and their big burgers are a must try!
Enchiladas are great, beans are great, rice is great. I can’t help but lick my plate. Tonya’s cool too. If you don’t know her, you’re not. So , ask for her. And go lick your plate clean. I do everytime. (True story. Ask my wife. )
I always enjoy eating at Pepperbelly's Mexican Restaurant whenever I'm in San Saba. The staff is very polite, and they bring out your order in a timely manner. If there is one dish I recommend, it is the El Patron burger.
First time there. A group of us went there for lunch after an outing together. OUTSTANDING. Great food and service, our waitress was the best, most attentive that has served me in a very long time. I highly recommend this place for food, service and good prices accompanied by substantial quality.
Ordered steak for 2. The restaurant was roomy and cool on a hot summer day. Jonathon checked on us often. Everything from the salad to the steak was amazing. The steak was better than some of the steak houses we've been to. We highly recommend Pepperbelly's!
AFTER DRIVING FOR 9 hours I was met at the front door by a deliteful lil gal who sold me on 2 jalapeño burgers. Best we ever had. Excellent service I cat say enough! Thank you so much. & the lil blonde up front is your biggest asset. She sells the whole place!
This is definitely where the locals come on a Sunday (this and Agave Jalisco are both open on Sunday, but that's about it). The menu is very large and contains more than just Mexican food. There are plenty of things for the kids. I think people knew we were definitely "not from around there" so as soon as we finished we did all the touristy things and took pictures in the cutouts and at the front bench which is really decorated very nicely with a "San Saba" neon sign. This was our second trip to San Saba, first trip to Pepperbelly's (we were staying at an AirBNB right around the corner). Food was very good and service was a bit slow, but they were also slammed so I definitely don't hold that against them. They did a great job keeping up with the after church crowds!
Such a wonderful environment! We have stopped by many times as a family &’ the staff nor food have ever failed to satisfy ! Such a wonderful addition to our community! &’ thank you to Julisa Vega for the wonderful enthusiastic service, &’ Tara Taylor (+all kitchen staff) for my husbands favorite dish plate on Friday’s (the all you can eat fish) Blessings !
I love pbellys! The atmosphere is comfortable. Clean!! They have the best waiting staff. Always welcoming and friendly. And the food! The cooks are amazing. They always deliver a beautiful meal full of flavor. I have to say this because I dont see it as a con. Like any place of work, we are human and we make mistakes. It happened but they are always ready to make it right. They truly value their customers. You can tell they take pride in their work and quality of service...oh and cant forget the free chips and salsa!
Katy and Maranda great waitresses and Romero cooks a mean steak! Thanks for taking care of us, may the Lord bless you all the days of your life🙏🏽
We eat at PepperBellys about once a year when we attend a family reunion in San Saba. It’s a staple to our trip. The service is wonderful, food is authentic, and the atmosphere makes you feel like family. It’s a growing restaurant always striving for improvement, and we love to see the updates and changes when we return yearly. Highly recommend if you are passing through and looking for a good dining experience. Oh, and we LOVE Tonya !♥️♥️♥️
Every time I go I always order the ribeye so much flavor in the meat it’s unreal and they do any temp you want, hands down the best in town! Breakfast is even better on Saturdays. Definitely recommend!
The senior steak fingers were as good as it gets. With gravy and fries I had no problem eating my fill. A welcome variation on Chicken Fried Steak.
I had a ribeye steak and it was tender, cooked exactly how I like it. Their sweet tea is definitely Texas Sweet Tea. If y’all didn't know they are BYOB, now I know for next time. The servers were fast, friendly and efficient. I will be coming back soon.
I've been twice now. First time I had the Verde enchiladas, this time I had the burrito with beef fajita. Both were excellent! The salsa is very tasty, homemade. Neither too hot nor too mild. The staff is very kind! They check up on you frequently. Pretty good. 9/10
Immediate service, many tables and booths, well staffed, amazing-made-to-order food.
Alright, let's turn that passionate food review into a mouthwatering podcast snippet! Podcast Segment Options: Option 1: Short & Enthusiastic: "Podcast family, if you find yourself in San Saba, Texas, do yourself a favor and head straight to Pepperbellies Mexican Restaurant. Authentic, fresh, and absolutely addictive. I couldn't stop eating! Seriously, fork down? Impossible. Just go. You won't regret it."
Stopped by on a quiet Sunday. One of us had tortilla soup and the other had fried catfish. Soup was good and fresh with lots of chicken. Fish was delicious! Service was excellent and restrooms were clean with plenty of soap and paper towels. We will be back when we're in the area.
Good food & atmosphere. Waitress was knowledgeable. Let us know about added dishes to the menu. Very polite & checked if we needed anything & on how was the food. Awesome young lady.
Man as I sat there waiting for my food I read the reviews on this place. I was thinking where have we picked to eat . But I have to say it was so good . Clean restrooms didn’t see any bugs of any kind . Our waitress was very good and I watched as she was the same with all of her tables there was at least 3 workers on the floor. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone.
We had a great experience at pepperbellies! It surpassed my expectations for such a small town. My party of 18 (sorry!!) had incredibly fast and friendly service, our food was delicious! There was no wait, I think there were only three other tables being occupied while we were there. Everyone loved the pepperbellies and egg rolls, and the fajitas were a hit all around as well. It was very clean, and reasonably priced for the quality. I definitely recommend this for dinner if you're visiting San Saba!!
Food was good. Service slow. For a little town like that, it’s to be expected. We learned this as it was our last night in town and everyone there moves slow. It’s a nice change for the rush rush rush of our normal lives. The fajitas are really good! My mom and I got the mixed chicken and beef for two. It was $25 and the special for the night. That’s the cost of fajitas for one back home. We would definitely go again.
Sat us quickly even with crowds showing up after a rained out game; service was excellent. Chips were fresh and salsa just right! Everyone enjoyed their meal. Restaurant was clean and the decor was so fun! We’ll be back! :)
This was some good Mexican food we got lost looking for the bridge and found this restaurant. They were amazing all around the food and the waitress were good def go back when we can. Will recommend my husband had a philly cheese steak with I au jus sauce they gave and didn't even know what it was.
Waitress friendly, attentive great with kids. Food was good.
The food was good but not great, service made it better. The salsa had a nice kick to it but the chips were a little too greasey, on several occasions. They close early and no breakfast hours.
Good service, clean restaurant, friendly staff, decent food. I think the floors were recently refinished and there was a strong polyurethane type smell, but I’m sure that’s temporary.
Atmosphere great, staff friendly, food good. Could use more spices and onions, cheese enchiladas very dry though.
The food and service were right on point. Highly recommend this place for anyone looking for an all-around good place to get some grub.
4.5 stars. Good food, we got take-out. The nachos had melted/crispy cheese, rather than a cheese sauce, and beans, carne guisada (beef tips with gravy) was delicious. The wait wasn't long for our food, free wi-fi!
Glad to have this when we want a good Tex-Mex place to eat while in San Saba, sometimes it's crowded and staff seem stressed but they're consistent in their food. I've had better but I'm confident it will fill me up. They're increasing their options with some variety and good burgers.
Used this restaurant as a meet up for Christmas lunch with my Mom and Aunt. They live in metroplex we live in Kerrville. So this is not a place we had ever heard of or knew anyone to eat at before. I will say we were pleasantly suprised. They wait staff was the best part of the meal. They were so nice and friendly. They had advertised cinnamon donuts but no longer made them. My child was super disappointed. So they took churros cut them and arranged them in a circle added whipped cream and chocolate. The child was so happy. The steak was the best meal out of the five we had. Juicy and cooked to perfection. My husband had guiso he said it was delicious and tender. The hot sauce was spicy but in the best way. The rest of us had a Mexican plate option. So we had a taco, chulupa, beef enchilada, chicken enchilada and rice and beans. All were standard fair but good. Will not make the hour plus trip to eat here on a regular basis but we are planning to eat here next year. We also had the churros and sopillias they were delicious.
It was a tasty little spot! It's a pretty American "Mexican" place but it was exactly what I was looking for. A little bit of Mexican with a little bit of American with a whole lot of Home Style, smiles and great service! The waitress said it was BYOB which was extremely interesting so if I didn't live in Austin I'd absolutely give that another shot really soon! So if you're looking for a spot where wholesome Christian values meet your taste buds in a perfect way look no further. You've found it here
The food was incredible. I always judge a good tex mex place by the rice and it was perfect. Had a large family event here, 60 people and the had a place for us and the service was efficient and friendly. Lots of roots here myself and i think Pepperbellys is doing San Saba proud. Good job yall.
They were busy and service was slow. Food was mighty tasty though.
Great lunch spot when qe were driving through town. Located just off 16. We were there for a late lunch so lots of open parking close by including on the street. We were seated and served quickly. The wait staff gave honest reviews of menu items rather than "everything here is great." The food was tasty. Variety of menu items to suit everyone. Again, late lunch probably played into this but it was delightfully not loud. 4 or 5 TVs on different channels but no sound on. Discount for cash pay.
I ordered fried cat fish, IT was good flavor but with more Salt that the normal. the sweet tea was perfect! 👌 and the service was excelent
My chili rellenos were excellent!!! I wish everything else matched the quality of those rellenos. My rice and beans needed more heat, they were served just luke warm. My water glass sat empty for long periods of time. Chips were good, but I love my chips fresh and hot and crispy. I'll go back, but it could be better.
Came through while on the road, restaurant had very nice atmosphere but the food was bearly average, the pepperbellies tasted like canned jalapenos and heated in microwave. Will not be back. Waitstaff was very nice and friendly.
I ordered the 6 piece Fried Shrimp plate which comes with your choice of House Salad or Caesar Salad and one side. I chose the Caesar Salad with Blue Cheese Dressing and Fried Okra. After waiting approximately 15 minutes, our waitress finally arrived with our meals. She tells us that she looked for our salads but didn't find any because they had already put everything away in the kitchen and asks if we would like a different side in it's place. If they could offer to cook us a different side in place of the salad, why couldn't they prepare the salad that we were supposed to get with our meal? The shrimp and fried okra were good but our meal was incomplete and still full price and our quality of service was slightly poor.
The food isn't that good but the workers are amazing!!! I do do highly recommend this place but if you're looking for authentic Mexican food this isn't the place. It's more American than Mexican.
I come from Southeast Texas, a place where I know where I can get good mexican food; both authentic and tex mex, and I come from a family of Mexican heritage. So I know good food. This place though is a poor escuse for tex mex. I come in and sit down I request a beer, no beer, how about a margarita, they don't serve margaritas. The "salsa" was soooo weak I couldn't eat it. Later I ordered my food (some beef tips w/rice and beans) the rice was dry and had very little rice and beans. But what really ticked me off was they brought me TWO corn tortillas. Like what the hell yall expect me to do after the second one?? Stop eating? A decent mexican joint provides 5 minimum. And they way they felt it was obviously they microwaved them. A friend of mine who visits the place often and is trying to defend them is like "how could you not like it?? The guy who owns it is mexican." My response "Then he should act like it and make better food! Obviously he doesn't eat his own food". You want actual mexican food or tex mex? Don't go here.
The waitress was nice, the food was awful, got wrong apps, forgot my salad... it was such a disappointment.
Very, very average place. Queso was decent, but the chicken enchiladas were very dry and the sour cream sauce was basically tasteless. No margaritas either.
We were referred here as we passed through town. We just weren't impressed. Queso was the worst I have ever had and the food was just okay. We were starving so it made due. We won't be back. Our waitress was wonderful though.
Wasn't impressed first time there the chicken enchiladas had a white gravy not sourcreme sauce and the chips were all crumbled. Definitely won't be going back. Told them at the pay out and the lady said maybe u should have gotten a different sauce:(
I had a great chicken ceaser salad with ranch dressing. I'm not sure why but 2 hours after I ate that I became ill. So I believe the chicken could have been contaminated. I was ill all night. Felt fine after I got it all out of me
The food was not to par with the traditional Mexican food we eat in Mexico. The rice had too much cumin. The Chile rellenos were thick in flour and deep fried plus they used wrong cheese. The service was ok but the line to pay was long. The place was nice
Food was not good and the service was extremely poor. To top it off, the staff was extremely rude. I can assure you we will never go back.
Food service and staff were horrible. I will nvr go back to this place. The waitress we had and manager were very rude and disrespectful to my husband and i.
Don't go at lunchtime. Not only long wait for your food but order was brought out wrong and short items. When I questioned when the would be out I was told i could just leave if I didn't want to wait. I had already been here an hour so no point in leaving. Emty glasses and coffee cups as well.
The chicken enchiladas looked, smelt and tasted bad. The chips were stale . I will not be going back. 🤮
I have eaten at this establishment a few times, always ordering the carne guisada. It is made differently every single time and only once has it been edible. I decided to give this restaurant another try. Not again. I ordered the Taco Tater for $7.25. This was a VERY small russet potato with about 2 table spoons of ground taco meat and 1 table spoon of queso. On the side was a spoon of pico and a spoon of sour cream. That's it. For $7.25. Save your money and go to the restaurant beside Kevin Shahans if you want Mexican food.
Ordered a southwest Chicken and it was chicken and a piece a cheese.. no peppers or onions on it like it said. Service was slow and inattentive.
Ordered a dish that didn't look appetizing when they brought it to the table, I wanted to order another dish, the manager Kelly came and brought my plate back and very rudly and loud told me " I'm not gonna eat the cost and you didn't even try the food " so I tried the Chile relleno n didn't like it.. long story short she took 3$ off my bill ... Will not return again.
The food was ok. The price is a little high for the quality. Our waitress Jennifer was on top of everything. The biggest disappointment was the fajitas for one and the fajitas for 2 have the same amount of food beside the extra plate of beans and rice and the tortillas. And was also forced to pay a $25 gratuity charge for a party of 7 and a baby.
Food cold.. wait staff kept forgetting the items that was asked for.. kid running around throwing paper airplane. What happened to good places to relax and eat ... thats not a mad house ... totally worthless ...its been 4 yrs since I was at this restaurant..40 more before I return ..
Honestly it was a complete disappointment. We got into the restaurant and no one was available to sit us. All employees were in the back. The food was a complete disappointment as well. I truly wasted my time and money going there. Only plus is they do work fast as far as serving drinks and appetizers but other than that, simply bad. Never going back over there.
Horrible Mexican food!! the worst fajitas I've ever had in my life! The rice was horrible. Then .... I seen a cockroach run across the floor.. everything about this place was just disgusting.. So please think twice before coming to Pepperbellys!
Food was so so bad, I got the sour cream enchiladas I do not recommend this place the sour cream wasn’t even sour cream it was like clear and runny. It was so gross I wanted to throw up. PLEASE do not go to this place save yourself. It’s so awful.
The food was incredibly bad, I ordered a chicken fajita soup, it was terrible tasting, overly salted. Others ordered Gordita’s and fajitas and it didn’t look appealing at all to eat.
Ok the service was great as far the attention and quickness to wait on me the atmosphere well I took mine to go ..but I realize things happen and we can't always catch everything but I had found not one but several hairs in my burger luckily before I even had a chance to start it..it was so many hairs in it it's like it was intentional or something...but I have yet to give them my business again..
I ordered grilled shrimp with beans and rice. What I got was not grilled shrimp. No char marks....looked like it was sauteed in a pan of something. I even checked the menu to see if sauté was an option. Decided to get cocktail sauce. Went to our waitress, who was sweeping the floor....waited, but she was on her cell phone....so I found another young lady to help, which she did and she was very friendly and did amazing. The beans were SO salty and inedible. The rice was not hood either. We had a big party....others mentioned how everything was way too salty. Maybe this was just a bad day for this place. We come here once a year to see the lights and eat here when possible.
Do not waste your time at this place. Horrible experience. After taking our order, our waitress disappeared. Had to go to the kitchen to get drink refills and yell across the room to get more chips. Two tables came in after us, ordered after us, got their food, ate, and left…we were still waiting. After 45 minutes and flagging our waitress down again, we asked her what was up with our order. She went back to the kitchen and someone else came out and said, “We’ve called for backup!” No apology, no I’m sorry your order has taken so long. At that point we gave up and walked out. So please save yourself time and frustration, and drive down the street to Agave Jalisco…BEST SERVICE AND GREAT FOOD!!!
Had a disappointing experience here as well. Unfortunately this is another fail. The waitress smelled like a nasty smoke. Not cigarettes either. They seem to only like to take care of people they know. Started with their “signature Pepperbellies” which is a thing everyone does at home. Except these were very salty! Stuffed pepper wrapped in bacon. How “original” but then again, following social media pages, this place just copies what everyone else is doing in town on their social media and their specials it seems like. They’re not doing it very well either. The enchiladas tasted like they were frozen and the burger was horrible! Dry hockey puck, with “green leaf” again, like everyone else in town does, and the saltiest and rubbery “home fries”. There is nothing original about this place. All they do is copy everyone else in town and they are absolutely not doing it right! Saw a dead roach on the floor as well.. that was about it for us! Do not waste your time or money. Hope this review helps!
Where do I start? With the cockroach so causally walking across the dining room floor? Or the enchiladas that were microwaved? How about the fajitas that tasted like boiled meat with pepper on it? Wait, let’s chat about the restrooms that were bad (one review here says they were clean 🤔)… servers are all about twelve years old. This wouldn’t be bad if they could answer any questions we had. Rice was dry and boxed I’m certain. Ok $50! Wow. Just. Wow. Not a good wow either.
