While The Bay has so many great places to eat at, you have to make a stop at 99 Chicken if you are in South Bay/Santa Clara. This place has been open as long as I can remember. I would always come here with my friends after class back in the day when we were craving Korean Fried Chicken. As a customer, 99 Chicken's formula of crispy fried chicken, unlimited salad bar (for dine-in customers), and ice cold drinks always equals a good time. Get the Combination Chicken if it's your first time and you can't decide what to get. Ownership has changed hands a couple times now, but the magic is still there. The new family is very sweet and care about their customers. One of the owners (Sabrina) does her best to remember regular customers names which I appreciate truly. It's one of those spots that makes you want to go back again each time. I can't wait to eat here again when I am back in town!
First timers here! My husband and I ordered the 10 piece honey chicken and 10 piece soy garlic chicken. I thought these were going to be little chicken drums and wings, but no, they were huge and made fresh to order! We definitely left full. If you dine-in you also get access to a little salad bar and rice. We came in around 5:30pm on a Saturday and it was quickly full in the next 15-30 minutes. Can’t wait to come back!
Love this chicken joint. This place was popular long before "fried chicken and beer" was a thing. Best flavor is honey, hands down, bar none. Soy sauce garlic is also very good. If you dine in, you get to enjoy the salad bar, and rice. But if you do take out, you have to pay $2 for those. Take out do come with pickled daikon. I think if you want all wings, they charge you a bit more. Can't remember how much more exactly.
Amazing fried chicken and my favorite is to order fried chicken plain without the sauce. It's tasty and crunchy with excellent sauce on the side, which I prefer as other korean fried chicken place serves the fried chicken already with the sauce on it. Disposable glove is available to keep the oil/sauce off your hands. All you can eat rice and salad bar is available.
Amazing Korean style fried chicken, available in a selection of flavors and sauces. The spicy flavors are excellent. If you dine in, there is also a salad bar buffet included in the price. Great chicken washed down with cold beer.
Feb 2023 update Still great! I know they are under new owners but mostly kept the key elements of the place. The wing/drumstick size now have more slightly smaller ones mixed in but overall still pretty large. They added a few new flavors when we dine in today (Korean sauce and honey garlic). My favorite is still the soy sauce and the plain ones. The place is empty at 6:30pm and got busy around 7pm. Eating there means the chicken is piping hot and crispy. You also get rice, broccoli, salad, daikon included. December 2022 My favorite Korean fried chicken place. Better than bonchon and Vons. First of all, their chicken they use is XXL. They prep the chicken well and the oil temperature is perfect that the under-skin fat are all melted away; giving you crispy skin without the grease. Even for take out orders! Their sauces are also delicious. My favorite is their soy garlic and honey since I can't take too much spicy. They also have extra spicy for the spicy lovers. It's a small business so please support them!!
One of the best korean fried chicken I can find. The salad dressing is special and delicious.
A small place w friendly people. Seat your self after ordering. The food takes a some time as it's fresh. The gloves are funny at the table but warranted. Help yourself to the salad and rice if you dine in. The sauces on the table are interesting. One sweet and the other spicy. I would suggest I would suggest if you're not really into hot food to get the soy sauce 1 and add the spice to your liking. Its not too hot. Only one size dish. 20 Wong's 20-21 bucks. Good most fried chicken 😋

Went here to get take out chicken after hearing about it. Ended up getting the soy garlic and normal fried chicken. The soy garlic one was very tasty and a very savory flavor would def recommend. They both had really good portions. I def wouldn’t getting the normal friend chicken though, it is very bland and also very dry imo. So if you do go here try and get their flavored ones. But for the soy garlic one the food itself was really good and the service for picking up the chicken was quick and easy.

Damn, their fried chicken is hella good... Definitely one of the best Korean fried chicken places in the Bay Area. Easily beats out chain stores, like bb.q, with the only "downside" being that you can only order chicken in quantities of 10(~31$/order). Even for ~3$/piece, however, the pieces themselves are massive, and all of them are exceptionally juicy. The sides, like radishes, rice, and salad, are unlimited and free, which honestly is just a fantastic gesture of goodwill(and makes sense, that stuff ain't expensive anyways). My recommendation, go for the flavors that aren't super sauced up. Those flavors just aren't as crispy, nor do they pair as well with the sides(inherently sour), compared to their other options. They ain't bad, but they aren't my first or second pick.
A restaurant specializing in Korean Fried Chicken (KFC) that has been established for many years. It was very popular back then and known for its unique ordering style, where customers had to purchase a certain minimum amount. The restaurant is famous for its double-fried chicken and offers a variety of sauces to choose from. This was my second visit. I ordered chicken wings to go with mixed sauces for takeout, and the fried chicken was still crispy, flavorful, and yummy. The service was quick and efficient, and overall it was a satisfying experience.
I opted for the sampler flavors. Korean sauce, plain, honey and last soy. And I also searched for a to go faster in out stop. A combo of legs and wings. I found it good quality chicken, but I will try other flavors for a better test. Price was a bit steep, but what isn’t. 10 piece and came up $31. As always post wherever your palate takes you.
99 chicken is located on the koreatown street of El Camino. Parking might be difficult in front of the store but if you go further in theres a lot more parking. They are known for their sitdown chicken as you get unlimited rice and side dishes. (However only take what u can get cuz u can’t take it to go) Chicken itself was pretty good, the honey garlic chicken was nice and had a good aroma to it. I wouldn’t recommend #3 their sauce chicken as it just tasted like ketchup and bbq sauce. Overall a nice sit-down eatery and one order can feed two ppl.
First timer 3.5* - Don't know why I was thinking they served the regular-sized chicken wings but these are actually very big as they should be for $28 for 10. To be honest, there were 2 smaller sized wings though but the drumsticks were big. Ordered half & half soy garlic and honey garlic and they pretty much tasted the same-a bit sweet but could've saved a bit more soy sauce. They were straight from the fryer piping hot. You do get access to a free AYCE salad/condiments bar with seasoned daikon, broccoli, spring salad, shredded cabbage and steamed white rice which helped offset all the fried chicken. 1 unisex restroom in the back and about a dozen tables inside. Service was friendly. You also get plastic gloves at your table and a metal waste container.
Large pieces of chicken wings and drumsticks. Decent selection of salad bar with mixed lettuce, shredded cabbage, romaine lettuce, daikon pickles, and rice. I enjoyed the original flavor more than the spicy as it tasted a bit sweeter then what I would have prefer. This joint is run by a family so I would definitely come back and support them!

We dinned in and ordered the combination. It comes with 10 large pieces of chicken. I ate 4 pieces and was full. When you dine in, they will give you a plate for salad and rice when they serve your chicken. The salad bar has radish, spring mix, coleslaw, cabbage, jalapeño, and salad dressing. Water is self serve. Flavor wise, it was all pretty standard. The fried chicken (2.5/5) was crispy but doesn’t have that usually airy crunchy texture I get from the fried starches when I eat Korean fried chicken. The meat was a bit bland to me, I felt like it could have been seasoned more. The honey chicken (2.5/5) is just the fried chicken with honey over it. The spicy chicken was more of a sweet and spicy sauce (2.5/3). The sauce chicken (1.5/5) was a bit sweet and tasted a bit like reduced ketchup.

Used to be all all-time favorite korean fried chicken spot, but that was with the previous owner. They now charge $3 per rice, which was the final straw to knock if off the totem pole.
Decent food; needs salt! I really like the base (regular) chicken, fried well with just a simple starch coating so it’s light and flaky. I don’t really like sauced chicken but that’s just preference. The chicken can use quite a bit of brining to get the flavor in stronger, deeper. The end product and flavor is not worth the $3+ per piece in 2026. The salad bar is slightly sad looking and all the verbose rules makes the salad bar feel cheap.

The Asian guy (maybe he’s Korean) who cooks, he’s very rude!!! One of the salads (the leaves) were empty already, and when I asked to refill the salad, he got into an attitude and argument with me. I do not recommend this place since it got taken over by new owners. However, I liked the original owners. Also, they take out all the sauces that were on the tables, and they charge extra for the sauces now. Also, they charged 30cents for each box, no matter if it’s a small box. I do not recommend this place.
I've been coming here for years, and this place is going downhill fast. Super cheap with sauce on the chicken. Looks like they put what little sauce you get in the box first, then put the chicken on top. Rice portions are a joke. Definitely the last time I ever go here, and will actively tell people to avoid this place from now on. Not worth the money anymore, what a shame.

I’ve been coming to 99 Chicken for almost 5yrs now and brought so much friends & family. However, this comment is not for food critics. Actually, let me get this straight the food is 5/5 “hands down”. Unfortunately, this is for the new management who took over from the elderly aka “short Korean lady”. I missed her so much, she’s genuinely care about her customer(s) not because she wanted to make money out of her kindness nor begged us to comeback. In contrary, just to be exact the daughter of the new owner who’s taking orders from dine-in this young lady needs a 101 customer service training “For Real”. She’s definitely micromanaging her customer which is very obnoxious!!! I do not mean to harm your business in any way or in such a way that people will feel uncomfortable or discomfort about you. I wish nothing but good business so you could thrive in this economy. However, let me remind you as your steadfast customer you do not breathe down to our necks we all know that without us you’re going downhill. We are paying in full amount not a penny less so let us enjoy our meal. Stop being “PENNY PINCHER” you will not succeed in the business!
Turned away by the server because my group (total of 5) only wanted to get an order of wings and dumplings and we were told it wasn't enough and we had to order a minimum of 5 wings each person. We were told that due to rush hour it was not possible to accommodate us. Rush hour where? The restaurant was nearly empty with many seats available and we weren't going to stay long, only 30 mins since we had a reservation at 6pm elsewhere. Totally would not recommend this place at all. Terrible service and terrible decor! By having this business model of ordering 5 wings per person, they will loose many customers. 0 stars
