Been here twice already, and this place is phenomenal. The menu changes every month, and is always unique, delicious, and the portions aren't as stingy as other artsy places. The price is also reasonable, and the service is warm and friendly. Diamond in the rough if I ever did see one.
My first time here, got a lot of recommendations from friends. August menu: Tomato Panzanella: love the combination of dry shrimp and tomato, a fresh salad to start Oyster Rockefeller: roast spinach and cheese and oyster, not much surprise or creative. Fish Jorim and Mu Jorim: The best of today, love the combination of mashed potato and seaweeds. Lingcod is so so so trendy , juicy and creamy. Corn ice cream: Ice cream is a good match of pop corn. However, pop corn is too sweet which overpower the sweetness from ice cream Overall I will give a 4 star, I can see the chef’s efforts in creating a non-traditional Korean fusion restaurant, though still room for improvement. Restaurant has a modern homey style interior decoration. Also with $55 per set, it is pretty good deal and worth to try out.
Gish? More like oh my GOSH everything is so delicious here! We went on the first day of their new menu and honestly I cannot remember every little ingredient in their menu because it’s so fancy but it was all delicious and the highlights for me, were the onion bacon jam in the second course and the celery ice cream! Owners and staff were so kind, professional and welcoming, and you can tell they put a lot of work and thought into their dishes :)
Creative Korean American tasting menu. 5 dishes total, first two were mediocre but the last 3 were very unique. From pasta made of corn to honey mustard ice cream, this place has a lot of innovative take on combining flavors. But be sure to book wayyyyy in advance, they only to 2 hours a day, 5 seatings of 4 per hour. We just visited last night and had to book back in May to get this spot. Definitely worth a visit!
Korean style fine dining omakase Gish restaurant. This is my first time trying Korean style fine dining! Four courses omakase: 1. beef bone marrow: this is amazing ! It came with veggies on the top and bone portion is big with the butter bread! It is so satisfy! 2. Japchae: the noodle with 63 degree eggs. I love the eggs melted in the noodle, eat with veggies and pork added sasame oil!so good !!! 3. Fish Gooyi: this one is ok ! Branzino with veggies on the top of rice! Delicious! Only thing is too much rices 4. Fruits Millefeuille: the dessert is pretty cool !
I never tried anything like this in San Jose. They served prix fixe seafood menu for this month and from appetizer to dessert everything was perfect. Portion size was great too. FYI, they DO NOT accept walk-ins or phone reservations so make sure you make a reservation through Yelp. They said their menu changes every month, which I think it is unique since I can have multiple experiences w them. Anyway, I can’t wait to visit this place again in the future.
Went to celebrate a belated Valentine's. Definitely one of the best food in the area. Great food & service! The duck liver pate is top notch! The desert was also very refreshing and not too sweet. The Angus was a little too well-done for my liking but over all I loved the place. Will definitely go again, looking forward to the monthly menus :)
They met above expectation when it comes to fine dining standard The crispiness of the pork belly, the umami flavor from gochujang and the sourness from the braised leek made this dish outstanding. Green algae jook- the umami from the green algae plus the saltiness and creaminess from the oyster was great, but would be better if they added different texture to balance out the softness of rice, oyster and algae. They will surprise you every month, as they keep changing their menu monthly depending on ingredient’s seasonality Ambiance: Excellent Service: Excellent Food: Excellent
Wow. Wow wow wow. One more wow. Honestly I'm pasty white and reading some of the descriptions of the dishes I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about the food here. Squid ink yogurt? Puréed squid soup base? Hmmm. However, after experiencing Gish, I can't wait to come back. Every single dish wasnt just delicious, it was intentional in its construction. Layers of perfectly managed flavours and textures seamlessly came together into a complete and powerful but not over the top whole in every bite. I can't say enough good about these dishes that had me unsure just hours ago. I won't question it again, feed me whatever you can think of if this is the kind of food you serve. The service was also fantastic, kind, responsive and fun. The atmosphere was a calm and authentic. I honestly can't find enough good to say about this place other than I look forward to next months menu, I'll be there whatever it is. One more final wow.
The chef is amazing! I have visited this place for 4-5 times and monthly menu always surprise us. Although my friends think it’s overpriced but I still willing to give a 5 to this restaurant. During my experience here, I believe the chef is pretty good at cooking the ordinary ingredients with brilliant idea. I can tell that they try to keep the Korean elements in bistros which I value the most.
I found out about this restaurant thru a friend. We had the perfect excuse to visit and decided to celebrate a March birthday. Reservations are recommended, the restaurant is cozy but there is enough space between tables! The staff is very friendly, the chef would bring the different plates and give a brief description of the food. I chose to pair the wine recommendations with the food, I’m glad I did! We would definitely come back, I think the menu changes monthly, I’m curious to see what other surprises the chef has for us
We were here to enjoy some asian fine dining sets and they managed to deliver at decent prices. The food and the combination are very creative. I've tasted a nice sweetness from fresh tomatoes and a slight touch of vinegrette sour excited your pallets. The fish dish sauce is really good, but the fish is not as flavorful. However, I still highly recommend anyone trying this place.
My former favorite restaurant used to be in this space. Maybe this spot only attracts creativity and food magic. It's a different experience, come with an open mind. The menu changes monthly. The ingredients are fresh. The dishes are satisfying and playful. October's main entree was one of the best things I have ever eaten. I'm still dreaming about the cinnamon syrup that was part of dessert. The only downside is that I can't eat gluten. Husband did not mind. He ate what I could not. I got lucky this month, there was plenty I could eat. It's tricky to plan and get a reservation. But if you don't have any allergies and are adventurous it is worth it.
Oh my goodness. Oh my goodness. Is this the place or what?! Came here for the August menu and I was in blown away with every dish that came out. Set menu so everyone in this place is eating the same thing unless there's substitute for vegan/pescatarian/meat lover whatever you are, these chefs will whip something up for you. Came here for a lovely date night and sat at the counter. I recommend the counter seat if there's two of you. Watching these chefs in action working as a team assembling your dish and them peeping over like, "yeah I made that!". There was a lady sitting behind us demanding to speak to the chef in charge. Of course I decided to eavesdrop! The lady said this is the best dinner she's had and why this place doesn't have their star yet. I would have to agree with this lady I was eavesdropping on as well! Honestly, one of the best part about this place is time. I recently had dinner at this restaurant that took like 3.5 hours to serve everything. Ain't nobody got time for that! Appreciate the team and will definitely be coming back!
My family had dinner at Restaurant Gish last night and we absolutely loved everything we were served. It was our parents’ first fine dining experience and Gish made the experience exquisite. First off, drinks were delicious and their wine pairing (fabricated by a professional sommelier) was right on the point! Four course prix fixe was delicate and exceptional. Delicious, full of familiar flavors maneuvered in extraordinary ways. I can’t compliment the chef enough about the food. But foremost, I’ve never had more comfortable experience at a fine dining restaurant. Huge commendations to everyone at Gish and I recommend everyone to try this place before they win the Michelin stars and reservation becomes impossible.
We’ve tried their Oct menu and it’s good. Entrees and desserts are well made, the fish dish is less impressive. The menu concept is creative and the service is pretty good. They didn’t use luxurious ingredients but the cooking techniques is good. I won’t mind to come back to try their other seasonal menus
Nice little restaurant with a fine dining touch! They offer pre fixe menu for about $75 and optional wine pairing at around $40. The food is tasty and presented well, apparently the team put in a lot of effort into making them. Wine pairing was also spot on and didn't have crazy mark up like many fine dining restaurants. Overall really impressed and will definitely visit again.
I heard of this popular restaurant from a friend. They offer a short tasting menu ($55 per person) with 3 courses and 1 dessert. We went there in august and we love the atmosphere. It’s a small but cozy restaurant with enough distance from other tables, which makes it great for dates. We finished all the courses with an empty plate each time. For August’s menu, the appetizer is tomato panzanella. We love this salad. Then you will get oyster for the second course and fish for the third. This is not a traditional restaurant and there’s some fusion here and there. The taste is great (especially with its value). If it’s easier to get reservation, we will definitely go back to try it again. Highly recommend.
We had dinner at Restaurant Gish on Saturday, January 27, our usual Saturday date night out--and were lucky enough to get the last two spots at the chef's counter during their 8:00 pm seating. The restaurant is small (maybe 24 seats or a few more), tucked away in a small building housing a number of small businesses and an Eritrean Community Center, and with an unassuming exterior. So much so, I'd suggest allowing yourself a few extra minutes to find it the first time you go, just so you don't miss your reservation. The atmosphere inside is wonderful, with a sort of industrial decor (the wall closest to us was concrete) warmed up with some nice lighting, warm colors on the table, and an open kitchen with a counter having a few additional seats. The kitchen is spotless, well-organized and quiet as the team goes about plating each course. If you're lucky enough to sit at the counter, you will have a chance to speak with the chef/owner and his wife, plus other members of the kitchen team, as they all take turns in serving the dishes and pouring the wine. In case you're unfamiliar with the restaurant, they serve a fixed menu that changes monthly. I'd describe it as heavily Korean influenced haute cuisine. The January menu included (1) a salad with homemade walnut tofu, thin, freshly fried lotus chips, bitter greens, and a citrus vinaigrette (plus a few drops of a tangerine emulsion, I think -- definitely citrus, not quite sure how it was prepared); (2) a shrimp and zucchini roulade in a sauce made of soy, blue crab stock, accompanied by a couple of thick slices of broiled zucchini topped with a bit of a soy marinated blue crab reduction, with a couple of small pieces of apple as a palate cleanser at the end; (3) duck breast jungsik (grilled duck breast served with seasonal banchan -- the small plates commonly served with many Korean meals -- including a variety of pickled greens, pickled radish and burdock root, plus a Korean chili paste and a tangerine marmalade), accompanied by duck leg confit served over rice with some seaweed and sesame seeds (this was wonderful!); and (4) an assortment of Korean desserts (yaksik, tteok, and sikhye). We also shared a wine pairing (a nice glass of French champagne, a Spanish Albarino (white), and an Italian red blend), which was very reasonably priced at $40. Everything was excellent! The menu is well-thought out and interesting: my particular favorites were the duck breast with tangerine marmalade and a bit of the Korean chili paste, and the duck confit with seaweed and sesame over rice, but I enjoyed every dish. The entire front-of-the-house team was great, really friendly and helpful -- in fact, I told the chef how much I enjoyed the tangerine marmalade, and he gave me a bit of another jam he made to take home and try. That's the only downside of going at the end of the month, as they are running short of some of the bespoke items made in-house for the January menu, since they only have a couple of days left serving it. I'm so glad we tried Restaurant Gish yesterday! The food was wonderful, served by nice people in a friendly atmosphere. We'll definitely be back!
I chose this restaurant for my husband's birthday 1000/10 I made the reservation 2 days before. I loved the treatment they give you, the chefs are in charge of bringing the dish to your table and explaining what it is made with. The atmosphere is very nice, it feels very private since the place is a bit small but it makes you feel comfortable, the price $75 per person in total 3 dishes + dessert (total 4 dishes per person) they offer beers and wines for you to choose how you want to complete the culinary experience They also gave to each girl a little gift was a Korean face cream 🫶🏻 A little but lovely Detail
Delicious Korean fusion restaurant using seasonal local farmers market ingredients. All the dishes are delicately made and taste great. The server introduces the dishes very well, and they were very fries. The July’s menu main dish was beef steak with special kimchi flavored fries and sauce. The portion was large enough to feed me. Notice that they only offer the prefix menu, so there are no extra food orders available on the menu. But they do have a variety of drink items. Maybe the downside is there no restroom in the place, you need to walk to the shard one in the building. We definitely want to try different menus here in the future.
The food, service, and atmosphere was amazing! Because dinner starts at set times, come at your reservation time as they need time to prepare and will let you into the restaurant exactly at the reservation time. They were accommodating to restrictive diets: one of the people in my party was pescatarian so I let them know in the reservation ahead of time. they were able to accommodate and she said the food was amazing!! The food was incredible: very unique but so delicious and filling! The entree and dessert were the highlights and I loved how the chefs came up to let us know what was in each dish. We’ll be coming back and highly recommend to anyone!!
What a great restaurant - great food, great owners, and great ambience. The flavors are all very well balanced -- not too overwhelming and just subtle enough. The ingredients are incredibly fresh, and the menu is very creative (changes monthly). The service is also spectacular - my party had a few food restrictions and we were able to get substitutes when relevant. The chefs are also very friendly, and their story of starting their restaurant is a very heartwarming one. I already made two more reservations for the next two months so that I can enjoy their new menus!
Modern Korean casual fine dining at its best! The flavors were bold yet balanced, and every dish was beautifully plated. The service was warm and attentive without being overbearing. Cozy ambiance, high-quality ingredients, and a memorable experience overall. Highly recommend!
Not quite sure how we managed to miss this delightful restaurant prior. It’s been here for five years now! We had a really lovely and delicious 5 course dinner and every course really popped. The slight Asian/Korean influences create a nice balance and intrigue. Reasonable corkage should you decide to bring your own bottles. The wine list is small but focused on appropriate pairings. Service was on point and the atmosphere is truly perfect. Next time around we will request th chef’s counter.
I had an amazing time at Restaurant Gish this weekend. The menu consisted of a citrus + herb salad, hay-smoked kampachi, southern-inspired gourmet soondae, korean porkchop that melts in the mouth, and ended with ice cream made of scorched rice. My girlfriend and I are both very familiar with Korean cuisine but we were pleasantly surprised by both the creativity of every dish along with the flavor. I normally don't drink very much, but this is one place where I would recommend the wine pairing as some of the flavors were quite strong and the level of experience wouldn't be the same without the pairing. This was my first visit, and they seem to change their menu every month. So I am looking forward to seeing their changed menu in the following months!
My husband and I came here for Christmas Day dinner. The service was excellent and very attentive to our needs. We had an amazing time and each course was very tasty and full of flavor. We also went with wine pairing which was great. I highly recommend this place for special events.
Love the restaurant. Very charming with character. Dishes are unique, blended with East and West cooking technique and ingredients. For their price of their set menu, I would consider that as a steal. Will come again.
One of my favorite places to have dinner. The staff is friendly and they start true to the art of cooking. Each month is a new menu and they are also very accommodating, given you plan ahead. Two seating times, 6pm and 8pm. Try responding to the reservation with allergies. Not crazy difficult to get a reservation. Been going here for years
The restaurant had a nice ambiance and interior decor feels a bit homely, a cross between casual and fine dining. The first dish to come out was the root vegetables. The beets were very well seasoned with amazing flavors and thoughtful combinations of ingredients. I really liked the cashew cream, it was nutty, savory, and a perfect complement to the vegetables. The next dish was a pork bao, which was tender and delicious. It reminded me a bit of a Chinese Peking duck bao. The mugwort bao had a very faint bitterness, but when paired with the other ingredients, it complemented the dish well. The third dish was smoked duck breast with yakbab. The duck on its own was a bit salty, but when combined with the other elements on the plate, it really came together. The kale was bitter by itself, but it paired nicely with the radicchio, sweet rice, and duck. There were several different flavor combinations you could try, each bringing out a unique aspect of the dish. I tried persimmons with the duck; kale, persimmons, and duck; and radicchio, sweet rice, persimmon gel, and duck. Dessert were fall flavors and was really enjoyable, though a bit on the sweet side. Overall, the dishes were creative and showcased unique flavor profiles. It was a lovely experience, and I would definitely come back for a special occasion. The menu rotates each month, so be on the lookout if you see something interesting.
An intimate restaurant that offers Korean-American cuisine. Every dish is well crafted and reflects the chef's creativity. The service is excellent, and the food is fantastic.
Visited for the first time Saturday night and had a great experience. The April 2025 menu was French based with some Korean elements that we really enjoyed. Each dish was intentional, beautiful, and delicious in line with French influences but with familiar flavors. It was also a lot of food and very filling for 4 courses with an affordable wine list as well so the value is great too. Highly recommend and we'll be back once the menu changes again!
I’ve been to Restaurant Gish several times, and each visit brings new and unexpected delights. The April 2025 menu is centered around lamb, offering a creative and adventurous tasting experience. The first course, a pâté with sweet and sour notes, was a refreshing way to start the meal and really whetted my appetite. The second course, featuring lamb heart, was beautifully cooked — tender with a rich, earthy flavor that stood out. The main course, a lamb rack, was slightly undercooked for my taste, but still flavorful and well-seasoned. Dessert was a highlight. The pea ice cream was playful and unexpected, paired with fresh fruit that added brightness and contrast. We had the wine paring as well but I don’t think the wine pairing aligned perfectly with the courses, but the wines themselves were well-chosen and enjoyable on their own. The atmosphere at Gish is intimate and refined, yet unpretentious. The minimalist decor and soft lighting create a calm, focused dining environment that lets the food shine. Service was attentive but relaxed, contributing to a comfortable and memorable evening.
Honestly, this is the best restaurant in the south Bay in my opinion. I lived in San Francisco for eight years and coming down on the peninsula and being in the south bay has been hard to find places that feel really authentic and intimate at the same time. It’s really a special place and all of the chefs, owners and servers are friendly, conversational, and love to tell you about the dishes. It’s also hard for me to find a restaurant that has a different menu each month and this is really what makes this place special. The chefs are really creative when it comes to the modern Korean fusion menu and every dish is expertly crafted. The place is so small and only holds maybe 30 people which to me adds to the charm. Having a beautiful open kitchen where you can watch the chefs at work is also a nice touch. It’s also one of the most affordable fixed menus in my opinion for what you get. I think a lot of places in the city could charge twice as much. $79 for 4 generous courses I think it’s very affordable. They have also added some really great nonalcoholic beverages that aren’t loaded with sugar, which is a huge plus for me. It’s definitely a place that I want to come on a monthly basis.
Restaurant Gish offers a unique dining experience with a focus on Korean fusion cuisine. The menu is prix fixe and seasonally driven, blending modern Korean flavors with contemporary American touches. We appreciate the meticulous attention to detail, both in the food presentation and the attentive, non-intrusive service. The ambiance is cozy and relaxed, with light background music, making it a great choice for a romantic evening. All the dishes were so delicious and I would love to come back every month when they change the seasonal menu! Such a treat and we loved chatting with Stan, Ray, Areum, and Ben! It's definitely worth a visit! We will be back very soon.
Wow it was really beyond our expectations! I admitted that I didn’t have too high of hopes when arrived, the service seemed a bit of off (then we overheard that some of the employees left early so I guess they were a bit of short of hands), and menu didn’t look too impressive to us. Turned out the dinner was just WOW! The menu looked simple but they all tasted so good, they turned some of the simple ingredients into super delicious meals, and I think this is way more impressive than serving luxurious ingredients! The price is also not too crazy expensive, and we would love to come back trying the new menus every month!
Restaurant Gish provides fusion home style Korean cooking with Michelin potential. They are one the best Korean restaurants in the South Bay. Carefully thought out menu that really emphasizes quality over quantity. Each dish is creative but beautifully prepared and will wow the palette. They can substitute for dietary restrictions.
Exceptional staff, a blend of French and Asian fusion, and a commitment to preserving Korean elements create a unique fine dining experience. The chef's innovative use of fresh ingredients, like hen of the woods mushrooms and black truffle on the risotto, adds a delightful touch. The excellent wine selection of the wine pairing enhances the overall enjoyment of the meal. This restaurant is a hidden gem of private dining in the South Bay. Looking at how they prepare cuisine is an act of art :)
We had the February menu along with the wine pairing. It was delicious, especially the salmon tataki and the passion fruit entremet dessert. We sat at the counter which was very interesting to see the various dishes being prepared in the kitchen. And with an added advantage of being served first for most of the dishes! Service was great and very personable. We had a nice chat with one of the servers and one of the chefs. Outstanding meal and ambience. Highly recommended!

The chefs are also very friendly, and their story of starting their restaurant is a very heartwarming one. I already made two more reservations for the next two months so that I can enjoy their new menus!
Gish has been our go-to spot for over a year and every experience has been fantastic. The food is always high quality with incredible flavors and beautiful presentation. We love how the menu changes monthly, offering fresh and exciting dishes each time we visit. The service is exceptional. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and always attentive. Whether it’s a date night or a special family celebration, Gish creates the perfect atmosphere for any occasion. One of the highlights is their special kids’ meal, which my children absolutely love. It's rare to find a restaurant that offers such high-quality options for little ones. For what you get, the pricing is incredibly reasonable and the value is unmatched. Weekdays are easier to book, but weekends can be a bit more challenging, so I definitely recommend reserving ahead. After over a year of dining here, we’ve never been disappointed. We can’t recommend Gish enough for anyone looking for a memorable meal in a welcoming setting!

This restaurant was highly recommended by a close friend who is Korean. She mentioned the authenticity of the place and reasonable pricing of the set menu. I was able to grab a reservation two months in advance in September, which ended up in November. Tip: New reservations that are two months ahead come out at midnight. They are closed Sunday and Monday, so calculate accordingly! The reservation get snatched up fast, so make sure you have the page ready to go prior to midnight! Our set menu at the time features the autumn season. We have the following - Acorn Pudding with Kimchi and Korean Pear - light and refreshing appetizer White Shrimp ball with Bori Shrimp on House made Gochujang Sauce - These were so delicious, shrimps were fresh and gochujang sauce added a nice kick! Jjimdak Style Chicken with Autumn Vegetables - this was so good! they had both white and dark meat and I honestly have never had chicken breast that was as tender and juicy as this. Chestnut Ice Cream with Horchata Veil - loved the asian flavor ice cream! Wagyu Rib-eye cab (add-on) - we probably didn’t need to order this add-on as we were pretty full by the end of the meal but this was really good as well. The wagyu was buttery and rich, the amount was perfect for two. Overall, I had a wonderful experience at Restaurant Gish. I will definitely come back again, just need to stay awake till midnight to make reservation!
Home style Korean restaurant, feels so cozy like home. They do only have around 18 seat per round, and have 2 round per night. I love their monthly menu, will definitely come back for next menu too. Their menu will change monthly and all depends on seasonal ingredients, so everything are fresh.
Interesting and practical location, in the back of the building. Stiil, comfortable setting, seats about 20 guests. Open kitchen which is always attractive to us. Not too many courses, but filling. Attention to plating, good! The seafood salad was refreshing. The soup was lukewarm, with al dente peas which was not my favorite. The duck main course was done nicely, tender. The celery roots ice cream was creative and pretty good. 1.5 hours dining is not very long, felt a bit rushed.
Great chef restaurant and value for money. Upscale but down to earth restaurant with hints of Korean food (at least what we experienced). The sedertt (squash cream with five spices) were absolutely amazing. Some of the dishes temperature was not warm enough but the flavors were great overall
I was so excited to try this place out, but it was slightly underwhelming from the hyped up reviews and frankly the price ($79 for 4 dish vs $55 for 5 dish 2 years ago, accounting for inflation though). The only dish that stood out was the shrimp roulade- the soy marinated crab reduction sauce was the highlight. The walnut tofu salad, banchan jungsik with duck and rice dessert were all good but didn't wow me. I guess I wasn't expecting banchan in a fine dining restaurant. They did accommodate for my pescaterian diet, and substituted duck with fish. The staff was also friendly and professional. I was full by the end of the meal, but from the big bowl of rice. Overall, I appreciate the attempt of bringing traditional Korean cuisine into fine dining. Maybe this month's menu was just a miss for me. Maybe I'll come back another month for a second try.
I got the March menu, and the highlights of the menu were the chicken breast wrapped in chicken mousse and raw wagyu salad. The other items were fine but not quite memorable. I would suggest to skip the add on caviar since it does not add much for the cost. Wine is delicious. Service is decent. The team is small but efficient. The space is also small, and the restroom is in a different facility. Overall, the experience was pleasant. However, the price for my dinner including wines and add on is on par with one Michelin star places. And I find that a little over priced.

it's very hard to get a reservation. But when we finally came and tasted this restaurant, we were all disappointed. The food was not that good, the portion was very small, after the 3 courses plus a desert, we were still hungry. The main course was a small piece of duck, still raw and tasteless. For such small size, at least they should have 6 courses, not 3. $65 per person, not worth the money. After we walked out the place, we had a bowl of warm noodle soup. I don't recommend this place.
