Opinions de Ambrosía Santa Cruz de Mompós
In my opinion one of the best bagels in NYC. I’ve had the salt and pumpernickel. Just the flavor is pure New York. Crunchy outside, soft inside, not too dense. Obviously many great bagel choices in NYC, plenty of bad ones too, but Tal is always solid.
Very cute bagel, deli and pastry shop. Very decent bagels. They also have amazing variety of spreads to go on bagels. There was even chicken liver pate among all. Food was fresh, and staff very nice.
We have been coming here every week for 12 years for coffee and bagels.last year they also added breakfast sandwiches which we always order. They spruced the place up last year with new paint, lighting tables and overall layout. Great improvements all around. We see some of the same local people everytime we go so it is a nice local hangout. Back again today for bagels. We try to come in at least once a week. Today we had bagel sandwich with eggs and bacon. Delicious. Then we had a bagel, cream cheese, smoked salmon, tomato and onion. Really good. And coffee of course. Bagels are always fresh.
Tal Bagel is a bagel shop in Stuy Town. the eatery makes a variety of bagels fresh every hour. there’s some seating. however most people grab n go. beyond bagels, Tal serves coffee, a variety of baked treats like Babkas, and there are other savory options like knishes. the shop is super clean and very well maintained. most recently, ordered an everything bagel with lox spread, red onions, and capers. it was delicious. great bagels don’t need to be toasted and Tal’s serves great quality bagels. Slight crispness with a chewy soft inside. the lox spread has that fatty lox umami, and the red onion + capers adds a couple of more flavors to round out any bagel sandwich. the staff are super friendly and work hard.
If you love salmon, this is the place to go! They’ve got cured gravlax, lox, pastrami lox and baked salmon. I went with lox one day and gravlax the other. The consistency was perfect as was the level of toasting. Upon request of a amount lite cream cheese, they actually listened. The real star of the show, however was the chocolate babka bread. I’ve never had anything so delicious. The only reason I don’t give this place 5 stars is that it’s a bit dirty. Trash was left on tables along with crumbs and the bathroom was pretty nasty. If you can get past that, the food is great.
First timer for a bagel and coffee. Bagel was a solid three and a half star NYC bagel so there's that. The coffee was also good. They do have a single restroom for patrons which requires a key from the staff. Large, clean and well lit. Staff was nice. Give them a try if you are in the area.
As a foreigner I’m naive to NYC Bagels. however these tastes great & they’ve a big deli selection. Service is rushed but there’s a steady trickle of locals coming in with this NY accents. So not a tourist spot I’m sure. Abundance of seating but by default the staff serve you “to go”. So I ended up with an environmental catastrophe of disposable plastic at my table. C’mon New York! Stop destroying the Earth.
It tasted like a 2 day old high school cafeteria bagel. Nothing compared to the 86th st Tals.
Bagels here were average. Their spread is more of a paste than a cream cheese spread. There wasn’t a line but they still rushed our order and messed it up, charging us for more than we ordered.
I've heard of these bagels, and I happened to pass by and decided to give it a try. First impression, the place feels dirty. Maybe because it is old but did not feel clean. Grimmy, you know. There was an obnoxious old guy on the phone speaking loudly and sort of making a scene when ordering. Either a regular or owner like looking old, dude. So many ppl were eating and online, so I figured I was in for something very special. But it is just another bagel shop. I did buy a chocolate babka, and it was ok. Yall not missing much.
Very expensive and pricey for just 2 bagels it was $40. I know this is in Manhattan but still it’s just crazy. Bagel was crunchy and good but it was super salty. Salmon was of good quality, however, and I could tell it was fresh. If the bagel wasn’t so pricey and salty then I would have loved it. I went inside because the bakery is beautifully decorated with flowers and it’s a great Instagram spot type of location for pictures. Lots of seating area.
Finally checked Tal Bagels off my list. Overall it is a very mediocre bagel spot. I might not go back again. Their 1st Ave location is spacious with many indoor seatings and a restroom. The service was lacking as I had to remind our server a few times I wanted my bagels to be toasted. We thought it would be a great spot to work or study. The bagel texture is soft, fluffy and flat. Yet both sesame bagels are not fully seasoned with toasted sesame. BEC bagel tastes standard. Tofu veggie spread is my staple at any bagel shops. This one is quite bland, yet it has a bold tofu flavor.
Truly one of the worst tasting bagels I’ve had in nyc. The only aftertaste my husband and I can compare it to is cigarettes, I think it’s the glaze or seeds they use. 2nd time we’ve tried it but never again.
Today’s experience looks like the Tal Bagels is becoming a very regular lower-end bagel shop. 1. Bagels are significantly smaller size as it used to be. 2. The content is very barely minimum 3. I was “pushed” to buy water as a “package” It is a pity. It used to be a great place for bagels.
Bagels are good. Problem is picking them up. If I order a dozen assorted bagels I have to wait 15 minutes in line. To order pick up online there is a roughly 20% upcharge for ordering ahead. Not worth the wait or the extra money.
I went to this bagel store and was completely disgusted. The guy making the bagels dropped the dough on a filthy piece of cardboard on the floor. The floor was covered in dirt and grime from their boots. Instead of throwing the dough away, he just picked it up and tossed it back into the cooking process like nothing happened. Then he looked at me like I was the problem. Absolutely disgusting. This place has zero hygiene standards. I will never go back again.
This is by far a health hazard they use a knife to get the bagels from the upper part of the of the rack. And they all have on one damn glove which is stupid. So I went in order three bagels two with cream cheese. The guy dug his hand in my bagel the one with out the glove then scooped cream cheese on a knife dropped it between two bowls grabbed it up and put it on my damn bagel!!!! I was shocked I just don’t understand the 🤢 nastiness I just walked out and left the order. good thing I didn’t pay yet. I will never ever come here ever again I will always go to (Liberty Bagels) they are the best in the city trust me made fresh and taste so good.
